Vaporesso understand nicotine addiction. With the Vaporesso GEN 200 kit review we’ll find out if they live up to that understanding. It’s their belief that taste concentration, ease of use, safety and ergonomics all act as catalysts for quitting the deadly weed.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit hand check pic

We reviewed the original Vaporesso GEN back at the tail end of 2019. The Axon chip was behind 220W of power being pumped to the QF mesh coils residing in the SKRR tank.

A ‘mini me’ version appeared almost a year later in the form of the Vaporesso GEN Nano. Relying on an integrated 2000mAh battery, it used the GTX 22 tank and associated GTX mesh coils.

Not long after, pulse mode was incorporated into the Axon chip for the release of the GEN S. Once again dual 18650 batteries were required to make the most of the 220W on offer. The NRG-S tank was new to the kit and so were its GT mesh coils.

There was a noticeable change of aesthetics with the Vaporesso Gen X. It used aircraft grade aluminium to keep the weight down. This distinctive box mod carried a 172 degree arc to improve ergonomics while the NRG-S tank continued chucking out the clouds.

Vapers were never spoilt for choice when it came to the GT range of coils.

What Can We Expect From The Vaporesso GEN 200 Kit?

Vaporesso have taken the same approach as their recent Target kits. By releasing a 100W version alongside a more powerful 220W edition.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit with Vaporesso Gen 80S kitWhereas the Target 80 used an integrated 3000mAh battery, the GEN 80 S relies on a single 18650 battery. I’m not sure why Vaporesso did this and highly doubt it affects the performance or weight of the device.

Yet ‘Ultra light’ is the phrase used to describe the Gen 200. We’ll find out in due course.

Other than a few aesthetical changes there doesn’t seem to be much separating the new GEN devices from the current Target series.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit boxed imageThey both make use of the iTank, use the very same GTi coils and have the same display. Only the material used and button configuration seem to have altered.

This would have been an ideal time to include the 0.15ohm mesh coil that I’m informed is due.

Vaporesso GEN 200 Kit – In The Box

I must admit it was a bugger sliding the sleeve off this bad boy. The carton suffers from more trapped air than I do! Patience should be a virtue at my age but I’m still prone to a few hissy fits.. lol

So it was nice to see a protective foam covering the glass of the iTank. Pity that wasn’t extended to the spare glass. Just Sayin’, Vaporesso..

Vaporesso GEN 200 kit – Key Features

As with the Vaporesso Target 100/220W models I haven’t received the instruction manual. So I’ll be picking out features as the review develops. At the time of writing the device isn’t even featured on the official web site.

Therefore it’s important to note this is actually an early review model.

Fortunately I’ve received the 0.4ohm GTi mesh coil (sorely absent from the Target 100/220W kit reviews) so I’ll be able to give my thoughts on that today.

Check out my review of the Vaporesso Target 100 kit if you’re interested in what I made of the GTi 0.2ohm mesh coil.

Vaporesso GEN 200 Kit – Design And Build Quality

For a more detailed examination of the Vaporesso iTank, check out my review of the Vaporesso Target 100 kit. While we’re here let’s have another quick look at what’s on offer.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit iTank close up pic
The 8ml capacity glass tube. The iTank is also available in 5ml as well as the 2ml TPD version

At the base of the iTank are three 10mm cycloptic airflow slots. All three are fully adjustable and have buttery smooth turning tolerances. Heavy vertical knurling around the perimeter helps in making fine adjustments.

It also assists with unscrewing the deck (clockwise) to remove or replace the plug and play GTi mesh coils.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit iTank push to open arrow on top cap

The 510 drip tip has a 10mm wide bore and is also removable. It doesn’t include O rings and there are none in the catch cup either.

You’ll still be able to replace it with others of your own choice.

Swing the top cap round by pressing on the arrow marking. This will expose the silicone gasket of the fill port which has a width of around 10mm.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit top cap slider to fill mechanic of iTankIt’s a shame the cap doesn’t swing round further because it limits the effectiveness of filling with certain wider bottles.

Although the top cap pushes securely back into place it doesn’t lock. So in this respect it’s not 100% childproof.

Vaporesso Gen 200 MOD

When Vaporesso state the Gen 200 Mod is ultra light, they mean it! It’s actually almost feather light. So we know we’re dealing with a toughened plastic/aluminium alloy material. With the battery door removed it’s possible to bend the Mod – with a degree of force.

Vaporesso Gen 200 Kit front view image

From an aesthetical point of view I find the Mod very pleasing. It takes a simple, no nonsense approach with a dot matrix pattern engulfing the front and rear. The top, bottom and sides have a smooth colour co-ordinated spray coat finish.

It feels extremely comfortable in the hand too. The side firing button is perfectly placed.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit centre mounted 510 connector

Since the main TFT colour screen is situated centrally on the front it makes perfect sense to have a centre mounted 510 connector. This gives rise to the possibility of switching between tank sizes of 24mm – 28mm.

Vaporesso Gen 200 Kit underside of mod

Although there’s contouring around the edges of the base, the Mod behaves itself on any surface. The type C USB port is sensibly placed, providing adequate stability while charging.

Vaporesso Gen 200 Kit safety warning on inside of battery door

The battery door is solidly built and doesn’t bend under any applied force. It’s designed to fit one way and lines up with the magnets on the inside of the Mod.

A finger nail cut out is built into the base but I found it easier to just pinch the sides of the door to remove it.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit discreet logo on the battery door
A discreet Vaporesso logo on the battery door. Other manufacturers – take note!

The two 18650 batteries fit easily enough. There’s enough space to work them using the spring loaded contacts but Vaporesso still need to up their game here.

Where’s the battery removal ribbon? Let’s hope this gets rectified before an official release.

Vaporesso Gen 200 Kit – How To Operate

Despite the name, it actually fires up to a maximum of 220W.

Vaporesso Gen 200 button configuration and display
Vaporesso Gen 200 Mod showing display with left and right menu buttons either side of mode select button
  • Press the fire button five times to turn the device on or off
  • Press the fire button three times to lock/unlock the device
  • Hold the mode select button. Use the left and right buttons to choose between variable wattage, F(t) or pulse mode
  • Press the mode select button three times to access DIY mode, system settings and to exit current screen
  • When in DIY mode, select from variable wattage, variable voltage or bypass mode
  • Press the fire and mode select buttons to display Axon chip version

NB: Even when the device is locked it’s still possible to vape.

In DIY mode it’s possible to alter wattage for a S(oft), N(ormal) or H(ard) initial vape.

You can also run the device in voltage mode between 0.0V – 9.0V

When in system settings, turn smart variable wattage on. The Axon chip will automatically detect the best output for the installed coil.

That’s it! As previously stated there’s nothing new in the way of menu functionality with the Vaporesso Gen 200 mod.

Safety Features

This isn’t official so please don’t quote me on this but I must assume the usual safety features have been incorporated into the board. These will include short circuit, low and high resistance, low voltage and vape cut off protections.

If your device suffers from any of these issues, stop using it immediately and resolve the problem before continuing to vape.

Comparing The Vaporesso Gen 200 With The Gen 80 S

As you can imagine, the Gen 80 S is even lighter than its bigger Bro. It’s 25.5mm wide in comparison and you won’t be fitting any wider tanks than the included iTank without serious overhang.

The battery door works the same way, relying on two strong magnets and can be snapped into place either way round.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit with Vaporesso 80 S rear image view

The display is identical (if anything a little brighter) and the menu and mode buttons are now vertically mounted. The dot matrix pattern has been confined to the battery door. All other areas of the mod have a spray coat finish.

Functionality remains the same. All three modes are included as well as bypass and smart mode.

Aside from the obvious aesthetics the only difference I could discern was with the Axon chip itself. It runs version 0.20 while the Gen 200 has 0.30 on board.

In case you were wondering – No. The Gen 80 S doesn’t fire beyond 80 watts.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit with Vaporesso Gen 80 S side view imageVaporesso Gen 200 Kit – How Does It Perform?

I tested the GTi 0.4ohm mesh coil across the three main vape modes at maximum recommended parameters (60W) using my preferred semi restrictive direct lung vape.

I used Harley’s Original Classic e-juice, a custard based profile to gauge flavour quality.

Wattage Mode

A very smooth and turbulent free inhale preceded layer upon layer of vapour production. There was absolutely nothing to fault in this respect but the apparent limitations of the mesh soon presented themselves.

At 60W the coil produced little if any warmth. Consequently the most I tasted was a flat monotone vanilla experience. It was definitely what you’d call a mellow vape. It certainly lacked any richness, extra flavour tones or back notes.

Vaporesso GTi 0.4ohm mesh coil pic 2

Pulse Mode

With a fresh set of 18650 batteries installed the Gen 200 pumped out an initial 5.3V before swiftly dropping to 4.8V. This initial burst meant Pulse mode was able to lift the flavour and bring out more creamy goodness.

Yet vape on vape there still appeared to be a lack of warmth behind the inhale.

The custard still reacted in a very timid manner most noticeably found around the edges of the exhale. The consistent nature of pulsing meant that each vape was as good as the previous. I was able to chain vape without any fear of dry hitting either.

..always a relief!

Vaporesso GTi 0.4ohm mesh coil pic1F(t) Mode

F(t) mode without doubt provides the best vaping experience – clearly knocking out extra clout at the start of the inhale. Now I could feel more warmth and the coil was responding readily to expectations.

The flavour was superior to that of pulse mode and quite honestly left wattage mode in the dust. Such was the difference to the flavour quality of the vape. The custard jumped to the surface while dairy notes popped to the tune of a more realistic vanilla essence.

A steady 5.3V was being held throughout the inhale while using fresh 18650 batteries. Ramp up time was non-existent and power to the coil seemed instant.

Yes. I was left with no uncertainty that F(t) was the best and possibly only vape mode to use with the Vaporesso Gen 200.

Pros

  • Incredibly lightweight dual 18650 mod
  • Comfortable and ergonomic
  • Large, clear fonts and numerals
  • Easy to navigate menu screens
  • Excellent vapour production
  • Good flavour when used in F(t) mode

Cons

  • 0.4ohm mesh coil lacks warmth (subjective)
  • Limited flavour replication with some juice profiles
  • No battery removal ribbon (may be confined to review model)

Vaporesso Gen 200 Kit – Final Review Verdict

The big question is are we being offered anything new with the Vaporesso Gen 200 kit?

Definitely not in terms of functionality. It’s the Axon chip and all the familiar modes that come with it.

The device still succeeds however.

Vaporesso Gen 200 kit hand check pic 2Returning to the opening question, Vaporesso clearly do have a grip on what vapers expect.

They’ve nailed the Gen 200 kit in terms of ergonomics and ease of use. The mod is incredibly lightweight even with two batteries installed. It’s the one single feature that impressed me the most.

I never encountered any safety issues. I will assume the chip has all bases covered in that respect.

However, there’s no getting around the fact that the Vaporesso Gen 200 kit is merely a reconstruction based on previous releases.

The iTank isn’t new to the kit and neither are the GTi coils.

It’s aimed at the progressive vaper. Someone already familiar with sub ohm stock coils and looking to try mesh (and possibly plug and play) for the first time. It’s for the vaper that takes portability for granted or for those who demand ease of use – either with the tank or menu settings.

Finally, do Vaporesso have a grip on taste concentration? I ran fruit, beverage and menthol flavours through the solidly built and user fill friendly iTank and they performed more than adequately.

But that firm grip loosens when handling the added heat demands of profiles such as dessert or bakery. While F(t) mode did improve matters, there seem to be clear limitations with the GTi mesh coils, in my opinion.

..Who knows? Maybe Vaporesso will include the announced 0.15ohm mesh coil with the final release. If I ever get my hands on it, I’ll give you my thoughts.

The Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit review and this one comes topped with the Zenith 2 tank.

You have to go all the way back to late 2013 to learn the history of the ‘Coolfire’ range by Innokin.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit review

Way too many devices and kits to research to give you a good understanding of how far the Coolfire range has come.

If you’ve ever owned a Coolfire device, then you’ll understand what I’m talking about

More recently – the Coolfire Z50 kit was released which had an internal 2100mAh battery, came with the Innokin Zlide tank and fired up to 50 watts.

Innokin are back with the Coolfire! This time making use of an external 18650 battery and firing up to 80-watts and the kit comes with the long awaited Zenith II tank.

What Can We Expect From the Innokin Coolfire Z80 Kit

The new Coolfire Z80 kit is part of the Platform Series by Innokin which in this case has been designed by Phil Busardo and the Vaping Greek.

The Zenith 2 tank could possibly be compared to the Zlide tank for many similarities.

Innokin Coolfire Z80

But the Zenith 2 is stated as a RDL/MTL tank which by definition means Innokin believe this tank can be used as an Mouth To Lung or Restricted Direct To Lung tank – depending on which coil you decide to make use of.

The kit comes with a 0.8Ω Mesh coil, ideally for MTL and also a 0.3Ω Mesh Z-Coil ideally for more of a Direct-Lung vape and has a 5.5ml capacity.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit

The Coolfire Z80 device itself is a single 18650 device and can fire to 80-watts.

Innokin has also included its new FØ technology which I will go into a bit later in this review – Its a bit technical but does it make a difference?

So let’s crack on and see what the Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit is all about…

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Colours

I received the Ash Grey variant of the Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit which comes with a matching ‘Gunmetal’ Zenith 2 Tank.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 colours

If you go for the ‘Leather Black’ kit, you get the Black Zenith 2 tank, and with the ‘Leather White’ Kit you receive the Silver Zenith 2 Tank.

Design and Build Quality

The Ash Grey version of the Coolfire Z80 kit is a nicely coloured kit when it comes to contrasts.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 reviewed

The body of the device is a very dark, highly polished Gunmetal finish which is complimented by the Zenith 2 tank of the same colour with a lighter grey finish for the padded surround on the device.

The Zenith II Tank

Drip Tip &a Top Cap:

The 510 ultem drip tip that comes with the Zenith 2 kit isn’t exactly my favourite, but due to its size its capable of being used for both RDL or MTL vaping, however for my personal preference I made use of the included Spare 510 drip-tip when using this tank as an MTL tank, purely because of its smaller bore and more slender MTL style.

The top-cap doubles up as the fill section, a simple slide anti-clockwise will reveal the filling port which has that silicon seal meaning its pretty much leak-proof if you happened to drop the tank whilst filling.

Coils & Capacity:

The Coolfire Z80 kit comes with two different Z-Coils.

The 0.8Ω Mesh and the 0.3Ω Mesh coil, but there are also a number of other coils available for the Zenith 2 tank.

The Zenith 2 tank has a 5.5ml capacity but obviously for TPD regions, this will be limited to 2.0ml – I’m not sure if it’ll be one of those double-lined PCTG tubes or an internal removable silicon bung, but either way I’m sure there will be a way to extend that capacity up to the maximum 5.5ml.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 zenith 2 tank

I really like how the glass is protected from the frame of the tank. Just like with the Zlide – Now this doesn’t mean you cant break it, but its certainly more durable than most of the tanks we see.

The Base:

The removable base of the Zenith 2 tank is nicely laser etched with the Platform Series logo and the designers Phil Busardo and Vaping Greek.

The base doubles up as the airflow control and has a nice tolerance to it.

Airflow can be adjusted from one large Airflow slot, all the way down to the more MTL airflow which has 3 small holes. Meaning you can adjust the airflow from wide open, to as small as 1 tiny inlet hole.

Tank – Overall:

Overall the Zenith 2 tank is well manufactured.

To start with, before you’ve filled the tank for the first time, some of the threading and tolerances can feel slightly on the stiff side, but after a few re-fills and alterations, the fill-port and airflow slider become nice and smooth.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 the Mod:

510 Connector:

The top of the device will hold anything up to around 26.0mm before you experience any kind of overhang from your atomiser and there is a nice throw from the 510 pin itself.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 510

Regardless of which tank or dripper I install, I’ve had no gap between the atomiser and the plate.

The Front of the Device

The front of the display has a really nicely style fire button, protruding nicely and with that nice etched circular effect, it really stands out thanks to the gold rim around the button.

The fire button itself has a nice click to it, however – my button also has a not-nice crunch to it. It doesn’t happen every time, only the first time I press it, then if I leave it a while and press again, it’ll crunch again.

I’ve contacted other reviewers who have the same product and they report no such issues so I suppose I’ve just got a dodgy one?

Below the fire button is a bright colour display, I cant seem to find information on its size but its approx 21mm in height by 14mm in width.

Below the display are the up and down buttons for adjustments to wattage, power and settings and they both click nicely with no issues to report.

USB Type-C Port:

Right at the bottom of ‘The Face’ of the Coolfire Z80 device is the USB-C port for charging and firmware upgrades.

There is no protective cover over the USB port and but the device has a maximum 1.7 Amp charge rate which I can confirm, thanks to Innokin’s very own Innokin MVP5 device being used as a power bank.

As always, considering this makes use of an external 18650 battery, I always recommend charging your batteries on an external charger as opposed to charging internally.

But the option is there if you need it.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 the Battery Door

I’ve said a thousand times that I’m not the biggest fan of this style of battery door.

That’s right, the screw in ‘flappy turny’ style – however they make for a clean finish and the lift up tab makes it easy enough to remove and install.

The threading for the battery cap is nice and smooth and I’ve had no issues with the battery door at all.

Externals:

Around the back-side of the device is the style of material we’ve seen way too many times, but this one is less like leather and more like a foam-feeling material with a nice amount of padding.

I actually quite like it however its not the best with moisture as water will just soak in, as opposed to running off the material.

The Mod – Overall:

In general the device is well built and to the expected Innokin standard meaning I have no doubt the Coolfire Z80 will be a trustworthy device.

It’s simple in essence but also quite a smart looking, and feeling device.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 In the Hand

Being a single 18650 device, the Coolfire Z80 kit feels nice in the hand, particularly as a thumb firer with your fingers wrapping around the padded section and your pinkie resting under the device for support.

The padded material gives the device a nice feel in the hand and due to the size of the Z80 its not particularly heavy, but feels solid and durable.

How To Fill The Tank

  • Turn the Zenith 2 top-cap Anti-clockwise into the ‘Unlock’ position
  • Fill with your desired e-liquid
  • Allow the e-liquid to saturate the coil for at least 5 minutes
  • Turn the Top-cap clockwise until it stops turning in the ‘Lock’ position.

The Coils

The Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit comes with two different coils which in my opinion are clearly designed for two different styles of vaping – so make note of what’s what and the wattage they recommend before installing because once you fit the coils, its very difficult to see the information on the coils to determine what to set your wattage at.

The Zenith 2 tank will take any of the coils from the ‘Z-Coil’ range meaning the Zenith 2 tank will suit a number of different vapers depending on your preference.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 coils

Both coils supplied in the kit are Kanthal mesh with the 0.3Ω being the Restricted Direct Lung coil recommended between 30 and 40 watts and the 0.8Ω being the Mouth-To-Lung coil recommended between 15 and 18 watts.

How Does the Innokin Coolfire Z80 Kit Perform?

Basic operation

Innokin is still making use of the same style of menu and functions from previous devices, which to start with may be a little confusing, you do eventually get the hang of things but it can take a few tries to figure it out.

Front screen shows:

  • Battery Capacity (No Percentage)
  • Power Mode
  • Power amount
  • Coil Resistance
  • Puff Time
  • Puff Count
  • Voltage

Innokin Coolfire Z80 display

The 4 items at the bottom of the screen are quite small so for those who struggle with small lettering, this may be an issue. However the text for these is fairly crisp and bright.

The Menu

There are a fair few options to consider when it comes to operating the Coolfire Z80 tank, so I’ll try and break it own as simple as possible.

  • 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
  • 3 clicks of the fire button will effectively put the device to sleep/Wake up.
  • Press & hold Fire Button and Up – Displays battery voltage, coil resistance and Puff Count
  • Press & hold Fire button and down – Locks adjustment buttons but still fires.
  • Press & Hold Up & down buttons will open the menu

Innokin Coolfire Z80 menu

Main Settings

Scrolling through the menu with the Up & down adjustment buttons, there are a number of options.

FØ Mode

Lets get the confusion out of the way. I’ll try and make this as simple as possible, for my own sake as much as yours.

Generally speaking, most devices make use of DC (Direct Current) meaning there is a constant current to the coil which doesn’t rise or drop, it remains constant.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 frequency

With FØ mode – the device uses Alternating Current meaning the current to the coil will in effect, pulse, or change up and down.

How does this affect a coil and the vape experience?

Well effectively what this might mean, is that the alternating current can improve the vape experience as it allows current to rise and fall more freely, meaning the power to your coil will not always be the same.

How does that make a difference? well depending on your e-liquid and your wattage, some parts of the coil may benefit from the alternating current, instead of the current always being the same.

Innokin believe this will benefit the life of the coils due to the fact its not always being powered by the same current, but by a current that goes up and down.

Its a bit like driving your car at different speeds to allow it to cool better when driving slow, and heat up when driving fast, as opposed to constantly driving fast.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 in hand

I still feel like I’m not making sense.

The truth is – I’ve not really noticed much difference if I’m honest – I feel a much longer time-frame is truly needed to test this option, whilst comparing it to a device with the FØ mode OFF.

This setting may also benefit battery life as you are not always demanding the full capacity of the battery when firing.

Or maybe it’ll demand more as it has to create an additional waveform? I really don’t know.

Regardless of what Innokin say, I’m really not convinced it makes a huge difference, if any to the vape experience or coil life. But that’s just my experience.

Power

The Coolfire Z80 has the option to change between Wattage and Voltage only.

Refresh

This clever feature will fire your device for 1 second at 40% of your set wattage as a way of ‘Refreshing’ your coil.

A bit of a gimmick if you ask me, because you could just reduce your wattage and press the fire button for 1 second to refresh it manually. That’s if a coil actually needs ‘refreshing’

I put this down as a gimmick for now.

Settings

In settings you can change the display to a much more simple look with just your battery capacity, wattage and puff time displayed, you can also change the display time out from 5 seconds to 180 seconds.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 padding

Cut off the power when firing from 3 seconds to 18 seconds along with displaying the Device Identification number and restoring the device to factory settings.

Flavour & Clouds

For the duration of my testing, I was vaping on Darkstar Code-Red for the RDL experience, a 80VG/20PG mix, and for the MTL experience with the 0.8Ω coil, I used another Darkstar product, Mango Unchained which is a 50VG 50PG Nic Salt.

The  0.3Ω  Z-Coil (30-40w)

With the larger of the two drip tips installed, the airflow to the max and the wattage set at 35 watts I enjoyed a chilled out, slightly restrictive Luke-warm vape with enough flavour to keep me satisfied.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 coil

At higher wattage, I found the 0.3Ω coil wasn’t too comfortable so I usually vaped at around 35-watts.

Dropping the airflow down, it gets more restrictive and personally I didn’t find it comfortable or satisfying.

Personally I found this coil performed best with maximum airflow and average wattage.

The sweet notes from the e-liquid come out nicely and its a smooth, quiet vape with no whistle or whoosh feel.

The 0.8Ω Z-Coil (15-18w)

Setting the 0.8Ω coil at 17-watts and limiting the airflow to just 2 small airflow holes, I found i got the best experience for me.

The restriction is about right for a comfortable MTL draw, maybe too tight for some but I enjoy a tight MTL draw.

The flavour is more than respectable. Which is a shocker for me, because personally I’ve never really got on very well with Innokin’s Zlide tank.

So I’ve been impressed with how this coil performs and the flavour it delivers.

Dropping the airflow down to just one hole, its still a good vape for me, but much more on the tighter side.

For fun, I put the airflow slider up to the maximum and to be honest its way too much airflow for an MTL and probably not enough for a restrictive Direct Lung – Right in that awkward position.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Airflow

The Zenith 2 tank has a very simple, but very functional airflow system that across the board is smooth and direct.

I’ve mostly enjoyed using the Zenith 2 tank as an MTL tank with the 0.8Ω  coil but it performs well as a restrictive direct lung vape with the 0.3Ω coil.

Just personally I tend not to vape Direct Lung with this much restriction. Its not super tight, just tighter as a DL than I prefer.

Battery Life

Both coils supplied are very much Low Power coils meaning even with the 0.3Ω  Z-Coil installed, I’ve still got good battery life out of a single 18650 at around 35-watts and have had no problem lasting an entire day with a single battery.

As for the 0.8Ω  coil at 16-18 watts, I’ve enjoyed over 2 days battery life no problem.

As always – These are based on how I vape, how much I vape and my batteries, this may vary depending on your setup and requirements.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Durability

I wouldn’t say the Coolfire Z80 kit is the most durable, hard wearing bullet proof kit on the market by a long shot.

But that’s not to say its build quality isn’t up to scratch across the board the Z80 kit is built to a high standard and a very nice finish, so I have no doubt this kit will do you proud and last quite well.

Pros

Mod

  • Nice style & finish
  • Well built
  • Clear display
  • Decent charge rate

Tank

  • Well built
  • Respectable capacity
  • Long lasting coils
  • Decent flavour
  • Smooth airflow

Cons

Mod

  • Material surround isn’t waterproof
  • Feel the Frequency & refresh options are just over-engineering
  • Battery cap may be a con to some
  • Some details on display are very small in Pro mode.

Tank

  • Top fill hole is a dirt trap
  • Top fill port is quite small

What could be improved?

Mod

  • Make the material cover waterproof
  • Overhaul the menu systems.
  • Make the device a 21700 may be a better option for some
  • I’m still not sure if the Frequency Mode and refresh actually do anything that noticable.

Tank

  • Change the top-cap to something that will better protect the fill-port from dirt ingress

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Final Review Verdict

Lets face it, Innokin is pretty good at making high quality products for the masses, and their Platform Series is no exception.

Seeing as this device can cater for a range of different vapers certainly makes it appealing.

For me its not the best everything, but its certainly capable enough and considering its build quality, I see this Coolfire Z80 kit as a worthy successor to Coolfire’s of the past.

So the 3 big questions I ask when testing a product are:

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

I’ve really no concerns over the lifespan of the Coolfire Z80 kit as long as you take care of it with regular maintenance, cleaning of the tank and aren’t too bothered by scruffs and scratches.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

The Zenith 2 tank performs well. Not the best with regards to flavour, but certainly acceptable and the smoothness of the airflow means you’ll experience a comfortable vape.

Is the Innokin Coolfire Z80 Kit versatile enough to suit a new and experienced vapers?

The Coolfire name has long been known for being a device that is good for newer vapers.

It might be said that the Coolfire Z80 kit nowadays would be ideal for someone who perhaps uses pod systems and disposables and wants to take the next step into a full on kit.

That’s certainly where I would place it.

If you’re looking for a proper kit, that’s going to last and be enjoyed, the Coolfire Z80 Kit is a respectable option.

Did you buy the Innokin Coolfire Z80 kit? Or have you tried it?

I was so excited when the VooPoo Drag X Plus unexpectedly came in for review.

My proudest moment as a reviewer was being the first to get out the video review for the Drag X and Drag S, and a year on the Drag X is still my favourite pod mod.

voopoo drag x plus from front

I’m a high wattage vaper, usually hitting at over 120w, but what the Drag X could do with a 80W/60W PnP coil was incredible.

The question is, will the Drag X Plus be an upgrade or downgrade? Even more pressing, are the New TPP coils better then the incredibly popular PnP coils?

VooPoo is a US vape company that’s been around since 2010 but they didn’t really enter the vaping industry until 2016 when they acquired Woody Vapes (A US e-cigarette brand).

VooPoo hit big with the VooPoo Drag mod, but the market really started to pay attention when the Drag pod mod launched. With it they redefined what a pod mod is, completely blurring the line between what is a pod mod and what isn’t.

Are you as excited as me yet? Lets take a look at the device…

What To Expect From The VooPoo DRAG X Plus

This style and design of vape became extremely popular in 2020.

It is a kind of oval base with a flat front, a leather patch on the back with the screen, fire and power adjustment buttons on the front, accompanied by a USB-C port.

voopoo drag x plus from side

The Drag X Plus takes a 21700 battery (or 18650, with the included adapter), which is a very nice upgrade as it allows for more battery capacity. And fear not, if you are caught off guard, the device takes a 2A charge rate.

It’s not only the battery that has been upgraded though, the power out put has been upped from a maximum of 80W to 100W.

Like it’s older sibling, it has the Smart Mode and RBA Mode.

The chip has been upgraded from GENE.TT to GENE.FAN 2.0. Which is the newer version but we have also seen that chip in the DRAG Max and the Voopoo DRAG 3.

And, new coils equals new pod.

The PnP pod tank was revolutionary and great but a lot of people pointed out one potentially major flaw, it had a built in mouth piece. The New TPP pod tank has a removable mouth piece and metal top… it still uses bottom fill though.

Design and Build Quality

The Drag X Plus looks very similar to the Drag X, as you may expect.

The kit comes in 5 different colours.

drag x plus colours

I have the Prussian Blue and I have to say, it is… silver. I was going to say shiny, but it’s more of a frosted shine.

The VooPoo DRAG X Plus Mod

The DRAG X Plus mod is extremely similar to the DRAG X Mod.

The shape of the mod is almost identical, with the oval like base and a padded leather patch on the back.

‘DRAG X’ is stamped into the leather on the back of the mod, with a dog-tag like “DRAG” plaque protruding down from the top.

All in all it’s pretty well built, but let’s take a closer look at its features…

The VooPoo DRAG X Plus Buttons

The Fire button is a classic DRAG style fire button, located towards the top of the mod.

Measuring in at 12mm in diameter, it is raised by 2mm and indented in the middle, which comforts your thumb/finger brilliantly.

voopoo drag x plus screen and buttons

The ‘+’/’-‘ buttons are towards the bottom of the mod, just above the USB-C port. They are 5mm in diameter and are raised by about 1.5mm with the ‘+’ button located above the ‘-‘ button.

All the buttons are nicely place, not of them rattle and they are all nice to press.

The VooPoo DRAG X Plus Screen

There are 2 different screen layouts you can use with the VooPoo DRAG X Plus.

The first is the ‘Iron Theme’ and this is basically the portrait theme we are used to seeing.

voopoo drag x plus icon theme rba mode

In the top right is a battery indicator bar, with the ‘DRAG’ logo in the top left, then quite big below that is the Wattage and the mode (S/R).

Further down is the Puff counter, resistance, puff timer and a visual puff timer.

The other layout is the landscape ‘Core Theme’, this theme looks, dare I say, like a futuristic dashboard.

voopoo drag x plus core theme rba mode

The power setting is in the middle circle with the puff counter, lock icon and resistance on the left. Then on the right is the time mode and voltage.

All in all the screen is great, it is easy to see and use.

The VooPoo DRAG X Plus Battery Port

The battery door on the VooPoo DRAG X Plus is a sliding bottom door.

This style of battery door is quite common and although I don’t really like them on dual battery mods, I can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with them on a single battery mod.

voopoo drag x plus battery door

There is one huge difference between this battery port and the original, it’s bigger.

That’s right the VooPoo DRAG X Plus takes a 21700 battery but it also comes with an adapter so you can still use 18650s.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus 510 connection

Perhaps the biggest change is the connection type.

Although it has been a while since VooPoo brought out its first pod tank, the Original Drag X only had a pod port (which you could by a 510 adapter for).

voopoo drag x plus 510 connection

With the DRAG X Plus, the tables have the turned. The mod has a 510 connection port and you get the TPP pod tank, which is the TPP pod with a 510 adapter.

The Connection plate is 20mm (but the mod can comfortably fit a 26mm tank). It is held down by 2 screws, which I know, a few people will questions it’s durability for the long term.

To me it feels well placed and there aren’t many mods that use a different connection plate type, I should add those that do are usually plastic or rubber.

TPP Pod Tank (Adapter Section)

The Adapter section of a pod tank is quite simple.

It acts like the base of a tank, except from the pod holds to it magnetically rather than via screw threads.

voopoo drag x plus tpp pod connection

The adapter has an adjustable airflow ring, which is sufficiently open for a nice airy DTL draw, but when it’s fully shut off it still lets in a bit too much airflow, you could never get a restrictive MTL experience from it.

510 tpp pod adpter

Truth be told I think it looks a bit tacky. I know that is massively subject to opinion, but for me it just looks a flimsy and cheap.

However, it does serve as a good example of why you shouldn’t ‘judge a book by it’s cover‘ because it is pretty thick and durable.

TPP Pod Tank (Pod Section)

Although the base design of the TPP pod is the same as the PnP pod, it is a completely different pod.

From the bottom of the pod, it is super similar. It has 3 magnets and a rubber fill port around the edge, with the coil port in the middle.

underneath pod

The TPP coils are much bigger than the PnP coils, so by nature, the port is also much bigger.

Other than the coil size, the biggest difference is the top of the pod. Unlike the PnP pod, the TPP pod has a opaque top with a removable mouth piece.

510 drip tip mouth piece

Making the mouth piece removable was a master mover, If I recall the biggest complaint about the PnP pod was the fixed mouth piece.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus – Smart Mode vs RBA mode

There are two power modes of the Voopoo DRAG X Plus, and they both do what they say on the tin.

The Smart mode suggests what wattage you should be using the coil at and it restricts the wattage in order to prevent you burning the coil too high and destroying the coil.

With the RBA mode it removes those smart features, so if you are using a different tank, the RBA pod or maybe you just want total control of the power, the RBA mode allows you to do so.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus Quick Start Guide

Changing The Coil TPP Pod

  • Remove the Pod from the base
  • Holding it upside down, pull the coil out of the bottom of the pod
  • push/insert new coil
  • Fill the pod with e-liquid and leave for 5 minutes to allow the coil to soak

Filling The TPP Pod

  • Remove the Pod from the base
  • Holding it upside down, lift up the rubber seal
  • Fill the pod through the newly exposed fill hole
  • Reseal the fill hole.

DRAG X Plus Operation

  • Turn On/Off = Fire button 5 times
  • Change Mode (Smart/RBA)= Fire button 3 times
  • Clear Data (puff count)= press and hold Fire Button and ‘-‘ simultaneously
  • Lock/Unlock Buttons = press and hold Fire Button and ‘+’ simultaneously
  • Change Screen ‘theme’= press and hold ‘-‘ and ‘+’ simultaneously, use ‘-‘/’+’ to change and hold fire to select

How Does The DRAG X Plus Perform?

No holds barred here, I am a major fan of the PnP coils.

I was in love from the very first drag with the original DRAG X with the 60w and 80w PnP Coils.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus – TPP-DM1 0.15ohm coil

This coil is recommended for 60-80w with a ‘best’ recommendation for 65-75W.

I went at it with my UNTOLD Chapter 2, it’s a skittles inspired flavour, mixed at 70vg/30pg.

TPP DM1 0.15ohm coil

Let’s start way down low at 50W. To say this is 15w below the best recommended setting, it is surprisingly good.

It’s prominent and almost fills the mouth. It’s no the best flavour but it’s definitely impressive for 50w, the cloud production is medium.

65W is bottom of the best recommended range and I have to say it’s getting better. It’s still leaving me wanting more, but the flavour is almost flooding the mouth and the cloud is now a thick medium size.

Up to the of the ‘Best‘, 75W intensifies the flavour, it’s now a lot deeper. And it’s pretty much flooding the mouth, it’s nice. The cloud is nice and thick but as a chaser, it could be thicker.

It’s not all that good though…. I use these coils for roughly a week, and then I sit down to write the review and go through the wattage again.

And what I’ve just written was what I experienced as I was writing it. However in reality, when using it though-out the day, the coil struggles to keep the flavour.

One puff can be incredible and the next can be quite underwhelming.

Truth be told I spent at lot of the time using this coil at 80W and I was unimpressed most of the time.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus – PP-DM2 0.2ohm Coil

This coil is recommended for 40-60w with a ‘best’ recommendation for 50-55W, and again, I used the UNTOLD Chapter 270vg/30pg.

TPP DM2 0.2ohm coilLet’s start at 35w, again this is better than expected, providing a prominent but not flooding flavour with a small cloud.

Leaving just above the bottom recommended range 43W is quite underwhelming, you get a medium sized cloud and a bit of flavour, but I was hoping for a lot more flavour.

50w is the bottom of the ‘best‘ wattage range and again the flavour just isn’t up to par, it is ample and prominent but it’s in no way fulfilling. It’s not even giving a super prominent taste at the back of the mouth never mind flooding the mouth.

55W ups the game a little bit, the flavour spreads around the mouth a bit more and it is nice, but still not flooding the mouth – I’m not impressed.

Push it up! In search of great flavour, I went into RBA mode and boosted it up to 65W and although the vapour production was nice and thick the flavour still wasn’t as good as I’d hoped for.

Again this coil did have moments in which it kicked out some amazing flavour, but it just couldn’t keep it up.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus Coil Summary

Okay, Okay, Okay.

Let me make sure you know what I mean.

Both of the coils are capable amazing flavour production, but from what I’ve experienced it isn’t great at maintaining an amazing flavour.

Some puffs flood the mouth, some just have an okay flavour production.

Additionally to that it takes a while for that flavour to come through when you first start using it. The 0.15ohm coil for example took a full day of minimalist flavour before it starting performing great.

I used both coils for a week, and they were still okay, but I don’t think they would have gone much longer.

If I was to compare the TPP coils with the PnP coils, give me PnP coils everyday.

VooPoo DRAG X Plus Battery Life

It’s hard to say what the battery life if like on a kit like this, it depends massively on what type of battery and power output you are using.

If you were to use a 4,800mAh 21700 battery and you take 2 second puffs:

  • At 75W you will get 426 puffs (A puff every other minute for 14 hours)
  • At 40W you will get 799 puffs (A puff every other minute for 26 hours)

18650 batteyr adapter

If you were to use a 2,500mAh 18650 battery (with the adapter) and you take 2 second puffs:

  • At 75W you will get 222 puffs (A puff every other minute for 7 hours)
  • At 40W you will get 416 puffs (A puff every other minute for 13-14 hours)

I always charge my batteries externally but if you are looking for charging it without removing the battery, you have a 2A USB-C port.

Again charging speeds depend completely on what battery you are using.

From out examples above the 4,800mAh 21700 battery would take just over 2 hours to charge while the 2,500mAh 18650 battery would take just over 1 hour to charge.

Does the TPP Pod Tank Leak?

It does, not a lot, but it does. I’m fairly sure, the leakage I have had has come from the coil and not elsewhere.

I’ll give it the benefit of doubt, the Chapter 2 e-liquid I have been using is quite thin for a 70vg/30pg liquid, however, that isn’t a good enough excuse in my eyes.

Pros

  • 21700 or 18650 batteries
  • 100W output
  • Looks and feels good
  • Capable of great flavour
  • 510 connection
  • the 510 adapter is compatible with the PNP Pods
  • seems sturdy and durable

Cons

  • Leaks alittle bit too much
  • Flavour production is consistent
  • Potentially weak Connection Plate

Final Review Verdict

My final verdict is, it’s an OK device…. haha!

Look it’s a hard call. I loved the original, and this is a great device with a lot of advantages over the original but for me it also has a lot of disadvantages.

In my opinion the biggest difference is the TPP pod/coils, although that being said, I am glad that Voopoo has brought out a new coil system, rather than just making small changes to the kit.

It is capable of great flavour and clouds? Yes but it isn’t consistent.

It isn’t as leak proof as I would have liked either.

I suppose the contrast principle is in play here, If it wasn’t for the DRAG X the Plus would probably seem a lot better, however the original is awesome and I’m just not a fan of the TPP.

So…

Is it time to stop dragging out this line of vape kits?

Are you using or thinking of buying the Voopoo Drag X Plus?

Luxe at what we have here then…sorry I couldn’t help it as I’ve just received the Vaporesso Luxe PM40 and I’m eager to get going!

I’ve had ups and downs with Vaporesso devices although I don’t think I’ve ever had a Vaporesso product that was terrible.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 back

Vaporesso was founded in 2015, although that doesn’t put them at the very beginning of this fairly new industry, they weren’t too far behind.

If age does show excellence Vaporesso’s parent company is one of the oldest in the industry, Smoore was founded in 2009.

However you could argue age doesn’t say all that much about a company, and it’s all about finances… well, this year Smoore was the first ever company in the vape industry to announce an IPO in Hong Kong (all to do with stocks and shares).

Cutting out all the technical details the launch to the stock market was so successful that Smoore is now one of the richest vape companies around, as well as one of the biggest and oldest.

So now we know exactly who we’re talking about, let’s see what Vaporesso has done in the past.

Vaporesso – Good Track Record…

Early this year this year (2020) the Vaporesso Target pod mod caught a lot of people’s attention, and I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to review it and I loved it.

I suppose the most popular of all Vaporesso products must be the Gen kits (Gen, Gen S, Gen X and Gen Nano). The Gen kits are great box mod and tank setups utilizing the popular GT coils.

Other popular Vaporesso products include the Tarot, Revenger and Vaporesso Swag.

Before we move on, I’d like to point out the Vaporesso Luxe is already a popular range consisting of the Luxe S, Luxe Nano and Luxe II, which are all mod + tank kits.

What To Expect From The Vaporesso Luxe PM40

As the name suggests the Vaporesso Luxe PM40 is a pod mod with a max power output of 40w.

However it is unlike other recently launched pod mods, in the regards that it is more like a pod system than a mod system, in respect to the size, style and features.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 bottom

It takes the popular GTX coils and comes with the GTX 0.8ohm Mesh Coil and the GTX 0.8ohm Mesh Coil.

It has a sliding style adjustable airflow, 0.69″ OLED screen, adjustable wattage which is controlled by the one fire button.

The built in battery is 1800mAh, which is slightly smaller than I expected but it does have a USB-C charging port with a 2A charge rating, which means it should take less than an hour to fully charge.

Vaporesso has also given the pod and coil a lot of attention giving it an “e-Liquid self-circulation system” and a “Triple-Silicone Coil Structure” to improve the leak-proof design.

I quite like Vaporesso’s tag line for the Luxe PM40, “Mini Got Mightier“, they also claim it is flavourful and durable with simplicity.

Design & Build Quality

The Vaporesso Luxe PM40 comes in 4 rather fancy colours, Black, Silver, Carbon Fibre, Lava and Jade, and as you have seen, I received the Jade kit.

The Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Mod

You may have noticed that I haven’t stated what materials are used in the specifications, that wasn’t a mistake, I’ve left it out because Vaporesso haven’t actually put that information anywhere (online or in the manual).

However the sides /frame of the device is metal, I’d guess at Zinc Alloy, but I can’t be sure.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 front

The same and size of the device makes me think of the Smok Nord 2. It’s very much what I imagine a pod system to look and feel like, it’s a decent size and shape that fits in the hand nicely.

The entire device is smooth and well made, there isn’t anything about it the comes across and cheap, rushed or poorly done.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Screen

The screen panel (35x10mm) is much bigger than the screen itself (18x5mm). That being said I think the screen is an ample size, it is simple and easy to see and read.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 Screen

On the left is the coil resistance and put counter/timer, in the middle is the power setting and the padlock symbol to signify if it is locked or not.

Then on the right side is the battery status, shown as both a percentage and a status bar.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Adjustable Airflow

I’m pleasantly surprised by the airflow control, I was highly expecting Vaporesso to have made some sort of horrible internal contraption but no, it has a sliding handle on the back.

The airflow slots are on the sides of the device, there is one slot on one side and 2 slots on the other. As you slide the handle across, it pulls a cover across the airflow holes to cut them off.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 airflow

It’s quite an interesting and surprisingly mechanical approach.

The handle is very stiff to move even after playing with it for a while, and I also found even with the airflow controlled full turned off the device still doesn’t offer a super restrictive draw, in fact it still allows for a tight Direct To Lung draw.

The Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Button

The Vaporesso Luxe PM40 only has 1 button, tThe fire button, which doubles up as the power selection button by pressing it 3 times.

Shiny and smooth around the edges, with a satin/matte texture on the front, the button is nicely placed, feels secure and does not rattle, it is also easy and nice to press.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 button

It’s oval shape measures at 6.5x10mm and I think it fits the device quite nicely.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Pod Connection

Without the use of magnets, the Vaporesso Luxe PM40 uses a notch on the front and back of the pod to hold on to the device using the corresponding indents inside the pod port.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 pod connection

It’s easy to remove and apply the pod but it does hold in fairly securely, during my time using it, I haven’t had an issue with the pod connection.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Pod

The Vaporesso PM40 pod itself is quite an interesting thing.

Starting at the bottom of the pod, there is a liquid free chamber which has a 2 small holes at either side, this area does have 2 o-rings which come on the coil itself.

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 pod

You insert and remove coils at the bottom, in the center but there is no fill hole insight.

On either side of the pod is 2 ridges for grip.

If we remove the black mouth piece from the clear part of the pod, we are we can now see the chimney hole, a fill hole and an air hole to allow air to leave the pod while your filling it.

Inside the fill hole, is a seal that you have to push the nozzle of your juice bottle through, I always like this type of filling design.

The seal prevents the liquid from coming back out of the fill hole, but inside the mouth piece there is a rubber bed that has 2 circles on it which firmly press round the fill hole and the air hole to stop them from leaking.

I always use a device for a few days before reading the instructions when I’m reviewing it. I feel it’s the only way to get a good grasp of how simple and easy to use a device is.

By doing this I had a lot of trouble trying to get the mouth piece off of the pod…

However after reading the instructions, you’re not supposed to lift it off you’re supposed to push it off… and it is much easier that way.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Quick Start Guide

Changing The GTX Coil

  • Remove the pod from the device
  • Holding the pod upside down insert the coil into the hole on the base of the pod
  • Ensuring the top of the coil slides into the corresponding hole, press the coil in firmly
  • Fill with E-Liquid

To reduce loss of liquid it is best to change the coil when the pod is as empty as possible.

Filling The Pod

  • Remove the Pod from the device (Optional but suggested)
  • Holding the pod firmly at the sides, push the black mouth piece, to the front or back to remove it.
  • Locate the fill hole, it is to one side with a black seal inside.
  • Insert eliquid bottle nozzle and fill the pod
  • Re-apply the drip tip properly
  • Leave for 5 minutes to allow the liquid to soak into the coil

Operations

  • Power On/Off = Press Fire button 5 times within 2 seconds
  • Unlock = Press Fire Button 3 times in quick succession.
  • Lock = Device locks automatically after 5 seconds of inactivity
  • Adjust Wattage = Unlock the device, the screen will start to flash, press fire button to move up in wattage (hold to move fast), wattage circles round from 40w to 5w
  • Start Vaping = When in locked state, press fire button

When you change the coil the wattage setting automatically changes.

I personally think the words lock and unlock are inaccurate, the function doesn’t actually lock/unlock anything is merely actives the adjustable wattage setting.

How Does The Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Perform?

GTX 0.6Ω Mesh Coil

Vaporesso Luxe Pm40 gtx 0.6ohm coil

This coil has a recommended wattage of 20-30W and I’m using it with Got Salt Peachy Promise, which is a peach and passion fruit nic-salt, mixed at 50VG/50PG.

In good old Harley tradition I started down below the recommended wattage.

At 10W pretty much nothing happens… but at 15w the vapour production starts, it is minimal but it does carry an surprising amount of vapour, already you can taste the flavour profile, although it is faint.

20W is the lowest recommended for this coil and it’s quite the pleasant vape, the flavour isn’t super powerful but it’s prominent enough for you to be able to taste it nicely. It lines the back of the mouth and through nicely with that sweet peach taste that I love, that’s with the airflow closed and half open.

But if we fully open the airflow the flavour production is immense for 20W, hugging the back of the mouth nicely, the vapour production at 20W is very discrete.

Half way through the recommended wattage, 25w pushes the vapour production up a little, but it has a strange effect on the flavour. It doesn’t necessarily seem better flavour but now instead of the optimal airflow being fully open, you seem to get better flavour with the airflow halfway. Also with the airflow still set to half way, we start to get an okay Direct To Lung flavour production.

30W is up top and it’s where I think it’s where the table turns.

You can get a decent flavour with the airflow fully open, but if you’re firing at 30W it is much better for DTL.

You can get a small but surprisingly big cloud out of the kit while using it DTL at 30W with the airflow fully open and it comes with some great flavour too, although it doesn’t flood the mouth with flavour, I still think it is impressive for such a small device at only 30W.

Above and beyond… I went to 35W and 40W but not much was gained, so I turned it back down in order to not waste my battery power.

GTX 0.8Ω Mesh Coil

gtx 0.8ohm coil

This coil has a recommended wattage of 12-20W and again I’m using it with Got Salt Peachy Promise, which is a peach and passion fruit Nic-salt, mixed at 50VG/50PG.

Way down low 6W gives off a very little bit of vapour, but barely any and there is no flavour.

Up to the minimum recommended, 12w gives a subtle but nice flavour production, the airflow doesn’t really impact the flavour too much but I think it’s slightly better with less airflow and the cigarette like amount of vapour is much thicker with less airflow.

Straight up to 20w, and it’s here that this coil flourishes, the flavour is on point especially for a 20W MTL vape and the vapour production can be likened to the amount of smoke from a cigarette.

This coil at 20W with the airflow fully open can also me used DTL nicely but it isn’t very strong with flavour.

Again, turning the power above the recommended wattage didn’t really improve anything.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Coil Summary

I actually really liked using both coils and I think for a starter kit they make a great duo.

While the 0.8ohm coil that like a straight forward MTL vaping experience, the 0.6ohm coil is great for those people who like both MTL and low wattage DTL.

They both are capable of creating a reasonable about of vapour but the 0.6ohm coil at 20w can provide lots of flavour and very little vapour at the same time.

I used both coils with high VG (70VG / 30PG) for a day each and they both handled it very well, however due to the size of the coils and the nature of the device, I would suggest sticking to 50/50 to prolong the life of the coils.

I got a week out of each coil (using 50/50 the majority of the time) and they’re still going strong.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Airflow

The adjustable airflow isn’t all that great purely because the pod doesn’t seal into the port meaning even with the airflow fully closed it still allows for a fairly loose draw.

However it does have an impact and I do very much like the design, although it could do with the handle being slightly looser.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 Battery Life & Charging

Although the 1800mAh battery doesn’t sound like much in this age of dual 21700 batteries, it is actually a very decent battery for this sized device, so let’s look at how long the device can fire.

12W is the lowest setting for the 0.8ohm coil and you get roughly 1000 x 2 second puffs which equates to a puff every other minute for 33 hours.

charger

20w is the overall middle, and you get roughly 600 x 2 second puffs which equates to a puff every other minute for 20 hours.

30w is the highest setting for the 0.6ohm coil and you get roughly 400 x 2 second puffs, a puff every other minute for 13 hours.

As you can see the battery is good enough for an “all day vape” but to make that even better, the Vaporesso Luxe PM40 comes with a 2A charge rating, which gets the battery a full charge within just under an hour.

It is also worrying about how low down the USB-C port is, it couldn’t get any lower, which in my opinion makes it that little bit more vulnerable to being damaged by little puddles of water on a table, for example.

Vaporesso Luxe PM40 – Does It Leak?

It doesn’t leak.

With pod systems there is always a little bit of condensation in the pod port, but even that is minimalist with the Vaporesso Luxe PM40.

After 2 weeks of usage, I haven’t wiped it out and the port still hasn’t got any liquid in it, although there is a very small amount of residue on the walls, it’s still that small it’s not really worth mentioning.

Other Aspects

I don’t have any concerns about the devices durability (other the the location of the USB port), the entire device seems strong and sturdy.

Although the pods are only held in by ledges, they are a decent enough size to cause worry.

In regards to usability of the device, it is easy to use and if you would rather not get caught up in changing the wattage, it is super handy that the wattage changes to suit the coil you attach.

I’m personally not a fan of the 1 button operation, but there isn’t an alternative if you only use one button and I do think the one button suits the device better than 2 or 3 buttons would.

Pros

  • Good Flavour
  • Capable of MTL & low wattage DTL
  • Next to no Leaking
  • Innovating filling system
  • Easy to use
  • Adjustable wattage
  • Adjustable Airflow
  • Fast charging

Cons

  • Incapable of tight draw
  • Airflow Control is tight to adjust
  • One button Operation
  • USB-C Port is Really low

Final Review Verdict

Although this isn’t my everyday type of device, I do like it and would definitely consider it for a small ‘going out device‘, for them times your going to the pub or a busy event.

The reason this is idea in comparison to other devices is because of the usability that it offers.

If you want to cloud in open spaces but MTL in more confined spaces the 0.6ohm coil allows both which maintaining great flavour.

If you are strictly an MTL kind of person the 0.8ohm coil is ideal because it’s capable of being a standard MTL device with great flavour, but it is also capable of being discrete and proving great flavour.

The battery is more than capable of providing the average vaper an all day vape and it only takes 1 hour to fully charge.

The Aspire BP80 is an 80W pod mod that looks similar to some other devices we’ve seen lately.

I always associate Aspire with Mouth To Lung devices, however since their launch in 2013, they have developed a huge and diverse range of devices.

Aspire BP80 front

The website currently hosts 19 Box mods, 6 pen mods, 43 Tanks and 50 kits (including a E-hookah).

Although I haven’t been a massive fan of their sub-ohm devices in the past (by in the past I mean like 5 years ago), I have reviewed the Aspire K Lite , the Aspire Reax , the Aspire Revvo tank and most recently the Nautilus GT kit.

I did like them all, but the Revvo is the only true sub-ohm device on that list and it was my least favourite, let’s hope the Aspire BP80 can top the list.

What Can We Expect From The Aspire BP80?

The Aspire BP80 is the big sibling of the recently launched Aspire BP60, the connection between the two is rather interesting…

Often when you get a sibling set like this, they are very similar with a few extras like an external battery and higher wattage.

Aspire BP80 back

However they look nothing alike and the Aspire BP80 doesn’t even have an external battery.

Although the BP80 doesn’t have an external battery, it does have a generous 2500mAh built in battery, with a 2A charge rating.

As the name suggests it fires up to 80W but it also has 2 modes, an auto mode that suggests a wattage based on the coil and prevents you from firing too high, as well as a manual mode to give you full control over the power setting.

The kit has a 0.96in Colour TFT screen, and you can change the brightness and colour themes.

In all honesty, it really annoys me when companies bring out devices that look the same, so far VooPoo and Smok has recently brought out similar looking devices and that’s okay if there is fundamental differences, so lets hope the Aspire can perform good enough to top the table.

Inside The Box

  • 1 x BP Coil 0.17Ω
  • 1 x BP Coil 0.6Ω
  • 1 x Type-C Cable
  • 1 x User Manual

I have received the Standard version (as listed above), the TPD version is the same except you get a 0.3ohm BP coil instead of 0.6ohm and the pod is only 2ml.

I also received the RBA, for the purpose of a review.

Design & Build Quality

I received the Granite Grey but the kit is available in 6 different colours.

Aspire BP80 colours

You may notice that the actual device remains the same colour, it’s the leather back that has a different colour.

Aspire BP80 Mod Overview

Weighing in at 155g it’s a fairly light device but thanks to the Zinc Alloy it still feels rather durable.

The leather on the back of the device is a nice touch, with “Aspire BP80” embossed into it. The branding is nice and easy to see but not too ‘in your face’, which is always good.

At first glance it does look a lot like the VooPoo Drag pod mods or the Smok Scar pod mods but there is a very subtle difference that I like quite a lot, the placement of the buttons.

Thanks to the size and shape of the device, it feels pretty good in the hand.

Aspire BP80 Buttons

The fire button is quite big (14 x 9.5 mm) and it’s shiny silver colour stands out among the otherwise dark kit.

It has a radial grip pattern but still feels really smooth.

Aspire BP80 buttons

A downside of the fire button is, it does rattle.

The buttons that I like are the ‘+’ / ‘-‘ buttons.

The main reason I like them is their position on the device, they are located on the side in the bottom corner.

They almost look like those pretend bolts that designers put often put on things…for no apparent reason.

They are still easy to use but are out of the way, which keep the front of the mod looking clean and simple.

There is a slight rattling with the ‘-‘ / ‘+’ buttons but nowhere near as noticeable as the fire button.

Aspire BP80 Screen

The Aspire has a 0.96″ colour TFT screen.

I have to say although I don’t particularly dislike the screen, it is a bit deceiving because the screen cover is much bigger than the screen it’s self, the cover is 40mm tall as the screen is only.

Aspire BP80 screen

The user interface / display seems a bit blocky and not as smooth as the display on other devices, don’t get me wrong though it’s not horrible, just not graphically as smooth as I expected.

Across the top of the screen is the battery level, both as a bar and as a percentage, as well as the locked/unlocked symbol.

Just below that is the current setting (auto or manual) then below that is the recommended ‘Best’ power setting. Strangely the power recommendation shows on both auto and manual settings, despite manual being unable to suggest a power setting.

In the middle is the current power setting in watts. Then just below that is V, R and A with the respective Volts, Resistance (ohms) and Amps under the corresponding letter.

Right down on the bottom is the puff information, which has the puff counter and puff timer.

Something I didn’t notice until I started paying close attention to the details, is the size of the information.

0.96″ isn’t a small screen, but it isn’t huge, there for you would expect less information on the home screen or for it to be designed in a very space efficient way.

Aspire has done neither, meaning the only thing on the screen that is easily readable is the power setting, unless you have perfect vision you might struggle to see the other information.

Aspire BP80 Pod Connection

Around the edge of the pods base is 3 fairly big magnets that connect to a circular metal plate inside the mods connection port.

Aspire BP80 pod connection

I like this style of pod connection, they hold on strong, and because the actual connection ports are lower than the magnetic ring, if there is any leaking it’s easier to tell if it is coming through the coil or the fill hole.

The Aspire BP80 Pod

The BP80 pod is similar to a lot of other pods of late. In both the way it looks and the way it connects to the mod.

In comparison to the similar pods, the BP80 Pod is probably my least favourite, purely because it’s got a black top, making it that little bit harder to see inside.

Aspire BP80 pod

Having said that the liquid level is still easy to see and I suppose the black top makes it look that bit more like an actual tank.

All in all I like it, the built in drip tip stands at 10.5mm tall with a 7mm Inner diameter and a 12.5mm outer diameter, which is about the right size to satisfy both MTL and DTL vaping.

The Aspire BP80 Adjustable Airflow

The airflow on the Aspire BP80 is built into the mod.

It is adjustable and can go from fully open, which isn’t huge but it is sufficient for a device like this, to a fairly good MTL draw when it’s fully closed.

Aspire BP80 airflow

The airflow ring, has a rough surface to make it easily grip-able, it’s nice and loose, but not too loose for it to move on it’s own accord and it turns less than 90 degrees.

Using the Aspire BP80

Changing The Coil

Aspire BP80 insert coil

  • Remove the pod from the device
  • Holding the pod upside down pull the coil out from the base of the pod
  • Push a new coil in to the pod
  • Fill the pod and wait for 4 to 5 minutes to allow the liquid to saturate the coil

Tip: Try to do this when the tank is as empty as possible to reduce loss of liquid.

Fill the Aspire BP80 Pod

Aspire BP80 filling pod

  • Remove the pod from the device
  • Holding the pod upside down lift the black fill plug from the base of the device
  • Insert E-Liquid into the hole and reapply the plug
  • If using a new coil wait for 4 to 5 minutes to allow the liquid to saturate the coil

Aspire BP80 Button Operations

  • On/Off = Press Fire button 5 times in quick succession
  • Lock/Unlock ‘+’/’-‘ buttons = Press Fire button 3 times in quick succession
  • Reset Puff Counter = Press ‘+’ and Fire button simultaneously
  • Enter Menu = Press ‘+’ and ‘-‘ simultaneously
  • Navigate Menu = Press ‘+’ or ‘-‘ to move up and down, fire button to select
  • Charging = Screen shows growing battery and screen goes off when fully charged.

How Does The Aspire BP80 Perform?

Fairly well, in all fairness.

I do have to say, straight off the bat, it highly annoys me when you get a kit and the coils don’t match the mod and that’s the case here, it’s a 80W kit but the highest recommended wattage among the coils is 55w.

As a chaser of power, clouds and flavour, that’s quite upsetting to me.

Aspire BP80 Coil 0.17Ω

This coil is recommend to be used between 45W and 55W and it’s got some decent sized wicking holes, so I threw in some Untold Chapter 1: It Has Begun which is a 70VG/30PG, zero nic, Coconut and Pineapple flavour.

As always we’ll start down low.

aspire 0.17ohm bp coil

At 35w there is a nice little cloud produced but only a very small hint of flavour. I tried different airflow settings, I even tried MTL but in regards to flavour there wasn’t much difference.

Up at the minimum recommend, 45w starts to give off an OK taste at the back of the mouth, you can taste the flavour quite well but it isn’t very prominent. That’s the best I could get and I got that with the airflow turned half way down, vaping DTL.

50w is midway and the flavour does improve even with the airflow fully open, but it’s still not quite fulfilling enough for me.

However there is a really nice prominent MTL flavour with the airflow fully open.

55w is the top of the recommended range, so the ‘auto’ mode won’t let you go above it. For me it’s here that the flavour production becomes fulfilling.

To say it’s only 55w the flavour is nice and prominent, almost in a ‘whole mouth’ way, and the cloud is small but thick.

Throughout the vapour has been really nice and smooth, even for MTL at 55w!

As usual, I tried to go above and beyond but at 65w the flavour seemed to decrease, so after 2 puffs I stopped trying before I burnt the coil out.

Aspire BP80 Coil 0.6Ω

This coil is recommend to be used between 15W and 25W and it’s got some decent sized wicking holes, so again I threw in some Untold Chapter 1: It Has Begun which is a 70VG/30PG, zero nic, Coconut and Pineapple flavour.

The first thing I noticed about this coil, as you can see on the pictures, is the coil has a smaller inner diameter, which restricts the airflow, irregardless of the airflow control.

aspire 0.6ohm bp coil

Way down low doesn’t really do anything, so I’m starting off at 15w, which is the minimum recommended. With MTL vaping we get a small amount of vapour and although the flavour production is small, the taste is still nice and prominent.

Up at 20W, the vapour production seems to bump up a lot, we’ve now got a nice smooth cigarette like amount of vapour and the flavour production follows, giving an almost whole mouth flavour production despite only using it MTL.

25w is the maximum recommendation and it is wonderful, it really does flood the mouth with flavour, while providing a nice smooth and think MTL sized vapour production.

With this coil you get a lot better results when using it MTL than you do DTL.

Aspire BP80 Coil Summary

Both coils produce great flavours and smooth vapour with both, high VG and 50/50 juice.

Although the 0.17ohm is decent for a small DTL experience, both of the coils were great for MTL vaping.

I’m a major fan of the design of the coils, a MTL coil that can use 70/30 juice is a great thing to have.

Battery Life & Charging

The Aspire BP80 has a built in 2500mAh battery, although I personally prefer external batteries, 2500mAh is a very decent sized battery for a device like this.

In fact the Samsung 25R is a quite common battery and they are only 2500mAh.

charging

While using the system, at 15w you would get about 1050 x 2 seconds puffs. That’s a 2 second puff every other minutes for a whopping 35 hours!

If you use it at 55w you would get about 290 x 2 second puffs. That’s a puff every other minute for almost 10 hours.

After a week of using the system I made a point of looking at what the battery capacity was because it just seemed to keep going! I should point out, at no point did the battery last me a week, that’s not what I meant.

Thanks to the 2A charge rate the BP80 can be fully charged in less than an hour and half. For me it typically too between 1hour 10 minutes and 1hour 20 minutes.

It even does that thing that it really like, it tells you how long till it is fully charged.

Does the Aspire BP80 Leak?

Yes!

From the very second I unboxed it, I noticed that the fill plug didn’t feel as ‘stiff’ as I expected. I dismissed it putting my faith into Aspire’s design.

I must stress that the leaking isn’t a huge amount and I know it comes from the fill port because it is only on the magnetic plate and not on the actual connection base.

To help emphasis how slow the leak is, I didn’t wipe the leakage away and after a week the liquid was still only on the magnetic plate.

If you own an Aspire BP80 please comment down below to let us know if yours leaks or not, because of course it is entirely possible that my fill hole plug is the ‘one in a million’.

Aspire BP80 RBA Section

Straight of the bat, I was disappointed.

The first disappoint was on the box contents, which includes the RBA, the RBAs 510 connector, some spare screws and o-rings but no coils.

Then I was expecting a nice size build deck because the whole RBA is pretty big… but no, the deck is super small.

rba deck

This entire thing caused a problem for me because I ran out of thin wire from the last RBA review and forgot to get some more…

Never fear though I decided I’d chuck a fused clapton in and if it doesn’t work well I’ll have to get some proper wire.

Building the Aspire BP80 RBA

So I got to work. I made a 4 wrap fused clapton coil (Ni80 2.6ohm/ft 2-28/36) with an inner diameter of 1.5mm.

fused clapton coil

Let’s be honest RBAs like this are not designed to be used with wires this thick as a result the spaces beside the clamp screw wasn’t really big enough, but I managed it and to be honest although it was a little fiddly it wasn’t anywhere near as fiddly as I expected.

rba with fused clapton coil

The coil it’s self was actually an OK size, it looks pretty perfect in my opinion.

As you’d expect with any coil that has an I.D of 1.5mm the wick had to be quite thin, but wicking it was a lot easier than I expected.

Aspire BP80 RBA Summary

What a turn around? I went from optimistic to disappointed to impressed, all in the space of 10 minutes!

rba coiled and wicked

The entire thing is pretty big, but the deck is really small, however that plays as a perfect example of why we shouldn’t judge based on looks and to push that even further the deck it’s self looks super awkward and hard to build but it isn’t. In facts it is easy to build and provides a good MTL vaping experience.

Pros

  • Feels Durable
  • Fast Charging
  • Capable of Great Flavour
  • Good for MTL with high VG Flavours
  • Strong Connection Port
  • Easy To Fill & Change Coils
  • Simple and Easy to use

Cons

  • Slight Leak from fill port
  • Built in Mouth Piece
  • No Advanced Features

Final Review Verdict

It is a good kit for starters or somebody that likes to do low power sub-ohming or MTL.

I do think with both coils that i tried it is definitely better at MTL than DTL but the 0.16ohm coil does provide a satisfactory, although low powered, DTL experience.

The battery life is pretty great, it’s light, feels good in hand and it is easy to use.

There isn’t anything that has stood out to me in a negative way, other than the slow leaking.

If you’re looking for a fault it would be there is very minimalist functions.

I’ve just received the Harleys Original eliquid sample pack for the purposes of a review.

First of all, my name being Harley is just a coincidence, I’m not affiliated with Harleys Original or RVG Distro in any way.

Harleys original Range sample / gift / test kit

I have to say, although I try not to do juice reviews, I’m quite looking forward to this one, it’s been sent over by RVG Distribution, an English company, focused on providing Canada’s best selling e-liquids to Europe.

You may have read my last juice review, Razz & Jazz, well Harleys Original is by the same manufacture and they also make the renowned Twelve Monkeys E-liquid.

I have my standards set pretty high for these juices, based on the Twelve Monkeys and Razz & Jazz.

Although, I wasn’t keen on the Razz & Jazz intended flavours (I don’t like gummies), all of the flavours tasted how they was supposed to and was satisfyingly prominent.

I’ll be using the Hell Vape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA to test them out, then at some point I’ll get my mate Kev in to do a flavour test to get his first impressions for my YouTube video.

Our Classic Custard Blended with a warm Banana Cream.

I Say

I’ll put it out there, I’m very picky with banana flavours, I do like bananas but not banana sweets. Having said that, I will review it for what it is, without any bias.

On first impressions I didn’t like it, because it is more of a banana sweet or milkshake flavour than it is actual banana.

However, before I was even halfway down a tank full the flavour grew on me.

After vaping it for a day, I’d describe it as a banana flavoured milkshake, but more of a deeper flavour than milk, I suppose that’s where the custard comes into play.

Perhaps it’s what banana custard taste like… but I’ve never had banana custard before so I don’t know.

In regards to prominence, I don’t think it’s massively over powering, however, it is definitely prominent.

Harleys Original Strawberry

Harleys original strawberry

Harleys Original Say:

Our Classic Custard accented with fresh strawberries.

I Say:

This is definitely a first, I don’t think I’ve ever had a refreshing custard flavour before!

I am the same with strawberries, I like strawberries but don’t usually like strawberry sweets.

However this is lush… Every puff tastes seems to taste slightly different, one puff you get a strawberry sweets taste the next you get a creamy strawberries taste.

It’s nice, I personally don’t get a custard taste, but there is definitely a creaminess coming through, it reminds me of a strawberry lollipop.

Is it prominent? Well that’s hard to answer, it is in the respect that you can taste it, but it’s prominent in the respect it makes your mouth water.

Harleys Original Classic

Harleys original Classic

Harleys Original Say:

Our perfectly balanced, smooth and creamy custard.

I Say

It gets 10 out of 10 for smell, but what does it taste like…

It is nice flavour, although as Kev pointed out on the video for the first impressions, we think it be enhanced with a hint of vanilla.

However as it stands the flavour is decent. It’s not as “thick” as I expected and hoped it to be but it is certainly a creamy custard flavour.

It might be just me but half way through the day, if the wicks started to dry out I got a popcorn like taste… That probably is just me, but I have to mention it because I experienced it.

Harleys Original Coconut

Coconut

Harleys Original Say:

Our Classic Custard sprinkled with ripe coconut flakes.

I Say:

To me it is interesting that the manufacture chose to describe the coconut as ‘sprinkled’ because that is exactly what I get.

That sounds strange, so let me explain, it is not a coconut flavoured custard taste. First of all you get the custard taste then you get the light (but prominent) coconut flavour.

It’s truly impressive how much this flavour is exactly what it is described as.

Over all it is a nicely prominent flavour.

Harleys Original Lemon

Lemon vape juice

Harleys Original Say:

Our Classic Custard with a refreshing lemon twist.

I Say:

This flavour just takes the range to an whole new level, if you like a lemon curd flavour then this one will be right up your street.

It’s probably the most prominent out of all 5 flavours.

The lemon added to the creamy custard gives off a flavour a bit like a Twister ice cream, without the hint of lime.

Strangely at times you get a strong lemon curd taste with a creamy backing and other times you get almost like a desert type lemon.

However I should point out there isn’t any actual pastry taste.

Final Review Verdict

Harleys Original eliquid line is a great range overall, there isn’t really a flavour that brings the range down but I stand by what I said…in my personal opinion I think the Classic Custard would benefit from a hint of vanilla.

All the flavours were prominent enough to the extent, that I think they would do well in a blind folded flavour test, and they were persistently smooth.

In regards to the blending of flavours has been done just right, for each juice both of the flavour profiles compliment each other nicely.

Let’s not forget I liked both, the banana and the strawberry flavours, I think that says an awful lot about how well blended the flavours are.

Can you get power, versatility and convenience in one is the question I’m asking about the new Voopoo Drag MAX vape kit.

Three categories which are extremely difficult to cover in one product.

Voopoo Drag MAX pod kit review

Usually we have to sacrifice power to allow for a smaller, more pocket friendly system and on the flip-side if we want more power, it generally means we need a larger device.

The Voopoo Drag line has been going for a long while now. I still remember the emergence of resin with their original Drag mods…Oh boy they were cool.

Of course since then, resin has been painful to see on every device.

The Drag 2 improved what Voopoo started with, and then Voopoo created something which arguably could be game-changing…

The Evolution Of Pod Mods and the Drag

When the Drag S and Drag X kits came out, I felt like the pod market just got a new lease of life because lets face it, As much as pod systems are a fantastic way for people to quit smoking they just got a little boring and monotonous – Wow a bleedin’ big word there!

The Voopoo Drag S, and Drag X systems were pocket friendly devices with effectively a tank which pops into the device magnetically unlike the generic tanks which have a threaded 510 connection.

Both an internal, and external single battery option were available and the ‘pod tanks’ themselves took the PNP Coils which in general are very good.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before VooPoo released the Drag Max, A Dual 18650 version of the very popular Drag S/X

What Can We Expect From The Voopoo Drag Max Kit?

I received the ‘Special Edition‘ of the Voopoo Drag Max Kit, which includes the standard retail version of the Drag Max Kit, but also includes a beautifully displayed layout of coils and the PNP Compatible Tanks.

Voopoo Drag MAX special edition review

As lovely as all that is, what matters is the performance, and will a dual battery version be just as user friendly day to day as the Drag S and X are?

So let’s crack on and see what the Voopoo Drag Max Kit is all about…

VooPoo Drag Max Colours

The Drag Max will initially be available in the colours shown below:

Voopoo Drag MAX colours

Design and Build Quality

I received the ‘Vintage Grey’ version of the Drag Max and I’ve gotta be honest, I think its a lovely looking dual battery mod.

Its not particularly classy, but it looks edgy and a little industrious.

Voopoo Drag MAX

Adding an extra battery over the Drag X has of course meant extending its depth, but that depth has allowed Voopoo to extend the leather effect running around the back of the device, with DRAG stamped into the leather in their usual fashion.

Voopoo Drag MAX leather

All metal finishes appear to be matte black, which with the grey leather contrasts really nicely.

The Voopoo Drag Max Pod Tanks

If you haven’t used a Voopoo Pod-Tank before, its very simple because its plug and play, there is also a 510 adaptor base available and I’m actually quite surprised it wasn’t included in the Special Edition kit, but then again they want you to use their tanks on their devices obviously…

Voopoo Drag MAX pod mod

VooPoo Drag Max Pod Tank Mouthpiece

A non-removable mouthpiece is at the top of the pod tank.

As much as I hate PCTG tanks, the mouthpiece itself is comfortable and there is a more MTL styled pod available, which doesn’t come with the standard edition, but was included with the Special Edition.

So if you’re planning on using this device for MTL, you might want to consider the more MTL style pod tank if you prefer a curved mouthpiece.

VooPoo Drag Max Fill Port

At the base of the Pods is a small rubber bung which can be opened and the filling port is small, bit large enough for most bottle tops whilst still leaving enough room for air to escape.

Voopoo Drag MAX pod tank

VooPoo Drag Max the Base

The pod-tanks all use the PNP push-fit coils so the majority of the base is taken up by the coil and the filling bung.

Voopoo Drag Max Device

The device itself has a number of features, and of course more power over its little brother (Drag S/X)

Voopoo Drag Max Top Connection

Located at the top is a recessed section where the Pod Tank fits, its a little odd looking at first with a large metallic ring and 2 small brass/gold plated connection under it.

Display, Menu & Buttons

pod mod base

A fair sized colour display is located below the big round fire button fire button. The display itself is clear and fairly bright and displays all the usual information.

Below that are 2 smaller Up and Down buttons for wattage adjustment and a few other handy features.

Voopoo Drag MAX display

With regards to Menu, there really isn’t a great deal to go through, but If you need information on that, check out the Performance section and ‘Basic Operation’.

Voopoo Drag MaxBattery Door

Voopoo has gone for the pushy-slidey kind of bBattery door, which isn’t my favourite and does feel a little flimsy with no springy feel to it. But its functional and I’ve never had a battery connection issue during my testing.

Airflow Control Slider

Usually the Airflow would be controlled via the tank, but with the latest Drag series thanks t these new Pod Tanks, the airflow is controlled via a Slider on the back of the device and will adjust the airflow on the two sides.

battery door

Its a clever little dial which is proud enough that its easy to slide, but not too proud that its annoying. The restriction on adjustment is almost bang on too, not too firm, not too loose.

The Voopoo Drag Max – Overall:

With the device and pod-tank Put together, I really like the look of it.

pod mod review

Even when using the larger capacity 4.5ml Pod Tanks it looks like a compact system and across the board everything feels, fits and looks good quality.

Voopoo Drag Max In The Hand

I really enjoy the Drag Max as a finger firer.

Your fingers wrapped around the soft leathery section of the device just fits nicely.

Voopoo Drag MAX in hand

As a thumb firer, its not as comfortable and I feel like I have to find room for my fingers…almost like the device feels too small.

Either way its a very lightweight Kit considering its dual battery. A lot of the weight-loss comes from not having a huge tank on top, but rather a PCTG 4.5ml tank instead.

When it comes to day-to-day use, this is still not the most pocket friendly system, yes its lightweight and seems a little shorter than most dual-battery mod and tank combo’s, but its still larger than the Drag S/X of course, so for convenience and portability its still not as good as its predecessors.

How To Fill The Voopoo Drag Max Pod Tanks

The PNP pod tanks are fairly easy to use, push fit coils require no explanation, but here’s how to fill.

  • Remove the Pod-Tank from the Device
  • Lift the rubber bung on the base of the Pod Tank
  • Fill with your desired e-liquid ensuring a coil is installed
  • Re-fit the rubber bung so it cannot leak
  • Allow the Coil around 5minutes for it to saturate
  • Re-fit the Pod-Tank into the device

Leaking?

As always, I keep a close eye on leaks, especially from a tank which has bottom fitted push-fit coils, and bottom filling.

vape tank

I’m pleased to say leaking is not an issue, just the usual condensation build-up.

Keep a close eye on the base of the pod tank, and more importantly the top connection of the device.

If you see any moisture, be sure to clean it up ASAP as this build-up could damage the device.

Voopoo Drag PNP Coils

The PNP coils are vast and different, from low resistance, high airflow Direct To Lung to high resistance low airflow Mouth To Lung coil.

pod mod reviews

They’re also available in mesh, round-wire and ceramic.

How Does the Voopoo Drag Max Kit Perform?

Basic Operation

The Drag Max Kit has simple and limited capabilities when it comes to its operation, here’s the basics:

Voopoo Drag Max Menu

There are a small number of button sequences to remember to operate this device:

  • 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
  • 3 clicks of the fire button will switch between Smart and RBA mode Basically Beginner and Advanced Mode.
  • Up button will scroll wattage Up
  • Down button will scroll wattage down
  • Press and hold Up/Down buttons to choose between two display options
  • Fire and Up button will lock/unlock all buttons
  • Fire and Down button will reset Puff Count
  • Pressing and hold all three buttons will display Chipset ID

pod mod display

Usability

Most devices have the usual Wattage/Temp Control functions and sometimes a confusing menu.

I’m really impressed with the simplicity of the Drag Max firmware.

pods mods displays

What’s most impressive is the smart side of things. The instant a pod is installed onto the device, the device will automatically set the wattage to match the recommended wattage of the coil.

This has been done before yes but considering the vast range of PNP coils, its great to see Voopoo have added that function which will really limit people from putting too much power through their coil. However you can still easily switch to RBA mode and vape how you like.

Voopoo Drag Max Flavour & Clouds

Well this is going to be painful… The Special Edition Kit comes with SEVEN different coils including an RBA Coil. However the standard edition does come with just the two coils.

But hey, I want to give you folks the best possible information so I’ve been trying out all of them!

pod mod coils

I must stress, in order to FULLY test them, this review would potentially take a few months as in my experience, PNP coils tend to last for around 2 weeks, sometimes longer.

So instead I will just summarize on their flavour and vapour performance, along with how I have enjoyed each coil

Fortunately, I’ve been enjoying the Drag X (Single 18650) for a while now, so I already have some experience with the PNP Coils.

Anyway… Here goes!

vape pod kit

For the duration of my testing on the low resistance coils, I was vaping on Code Red by Darkstar for the lower resistance coils, Code Red is made to a 80VG 20PG Mix

For the higher resistance coils, I used them more in a MTL format, with a 50VG 50PG Mix of Raspberry Sherbet by DripHacks.

The PNP-TR1 1.2Ω Coil (Round-Wire)

Recommended at 10-15w the TR1 is an average Mouth To Lung Coil. I found 15 watts with the airflow half open was my sweet spot. Its not the best MTL coil, but its comfortable and a fairly decent vape.

pod coil

The PNP-TM2 0.80Ω Coil (Mesh)

Recommended at 12-18w the TM2 for me worked best at 20 watts, higher than recommended. A very nice MTL vape with the airflow 3/4 closed. Decent flavour and a nice cloud to boot.

The PNP-VM4 0.60Ω Coil (Mesh)

vape coil

Recommended at 20-28w the VM4 I spent half my time using it as a MTL, and the other half as a DTL. I’m still not sure what I prefer from this coil.
But its versatile that’s for sure.

Good flavour and more cloudy than the 0.8 TM2

The PNP-VM3 0.45Ω Coil (Mesh)

pod coils

Recommended at 25-35w the VM3 is an ideal coil for the single battery version, and in my experience 30 watts was a nice place for me.

A slightly warm vape, nice clouds and decent flavour.

The PNP-VM6 0.15Ω Coil (Mesh) STANDARD EDITION INCLUDED

pnp coil

Recommended at 60-80w the VM6 is the lowest resistance and biggest cloud chucker in the range.

Its also a battery drainer but if you want big clouds and a flavour banger, stick the wattage at 65w and open the airflow up completely.

A very good coil that performs much better than I thought considering its actual size.

The PNP-VM5 0.20Ω Coil (Mesh) STANDARD EDITION INCLUDED

pnp pod coil

Recommended at 40-60w the VM5 is my favourite PNP coil.

It’s pretty much like the VM6 but requires less power and still produces a nice cloud and great flavour.

It’s also very good with all types of flavours.

I’ve been using the VM5 coil for a good few weeks and have found I get 2 weeks life, plus it brings out very good sweet notes on e-liquids, at 55 watts, airflow open, its a great coil.

The PNP-VM1 0.3Ω Coil (Mesh)

coils

Recommended at 32-40w the VM1 was best for me at 40 watts.

This coil reminds me of the VM5 but just lacking a little.

It’s OK, and certainly another one which will help preserve battery life, but you are unfortunately sacrificing flavour for battery life.

BONUS COIL

good vape coil

The PNP-C1 1.2Ω Coil (Ceramic) – Not Included

Recommended at 10-15w the C1 is the only Ceramic-Based coil in the range.

Personally though, it performs quite well.

I enjoy it at 12 watts and even with the Airflow wide open, its still a nice tight draw. Its not the best MTL coil by any means, but its certainly acceptable.

Voopoo Drag Max Kit Airflow

Airflow firstly will depend on your coil selection, the restriction will definitely vary depending on which coil you go for.

vaping coils

However, regardless on how you use this device, the airflow adjustment is very good and also fairly quiet.

pod mod box

The airflow slider itself is also very good, easy to use and adjusts the airflow on both sides of the device, a clever way of doing things.

VooPoo Drag Max Battery Life

This will always go back to how much you vape, and at what wattage.

Personally I always expect a dual 18650 battery device to last me all day when vaping at approx. 60-70w.

In general I get a days life at that kind of wattage unless I’m having a bad day of course or using batteries which are near the end of their life.

The Voopoo Drag Max is no different, the chip is very good at conserving energy and what works best for me is the 0.2Ω coil at 55 watts.

A days battery life no problem at all with a little life for the next morning if required.

Of course you can make use of the USB-C port for charging at 2 Amps and firmware upgrades, however I strongly suggest as always to use an external charger for your vape batteries.

Is the Voopoo Drag Max Special Edition Kit Worth it?

If you’re new to Voopoo, or perhaps the Drag S/X/Max versions of the Drag then there are a few things to consider.

The Special Edition kit gives you the option of trying out every coil including the RBA and RTA so if you’re unsure how you want to use this kit then you may want to consider this.

However if budget is an issue, or you know you want this purely for a DTL vape then the Standard Edition will more than suffice and you could spend some of that left over money on extra coils if you like?

I really like the Special Edition Kit for obvious reasons. Everything you could possibly need is included in the kit, but there are limited numbers on the kit so you will have to act fast before they sell out.

If you’re a die-hard VooPoo fan – then you need to get this package!

If not, the Standard Edition will absolutely do the job.

The below Pro’s and Cons are purely based on the Standard Edition – hopefully this will help those looking to get the retail version in future.

The Special Edition Kit is mostly add-ons which might even be sold out by the time you read this.

Pros

  • Nice Styling and feel
  • Comfortable as Finger firer
  • Very user-friendly functions
  • Airflow Slider operates beautifully
  • Good flavour across the board on all coils
  • Plug and Play Tanks easy to use.

Cons

  • Does not have a 510 connection for other tanks
  • Condensation from Tank may cause issues without maintenance
  • Well built, but no Bullet Proof

Final Review Verdict

Can you tell I like this device?

Well I do.

As a hobbyist vaper it can be easy to lose sight on just how important simplicity and convenience can be.

The Drag X and S took pod-style systems to a new level and the Voopoo Drag Max has simply added more battery life and power to an already successful idea.

I’m still not convinced this kind of kit is ideal for a new vaper, however it really does cover a whole lot of aspects of vaping so I would imagine this device would be an idea stepping stone for someone looking to upgrade after their first few hard months from quitting smoking.

There’s a number of features that I look at when trying out a device, and for something to score highly, it needs to meet certain demands.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

The Voopoo Drag Max has good build quality and will certainly last into 2021 and beyond with good care and maintenance.

However this doesn’t mean you can throw the Drag Max around.

Its build quality is good, but I doubt it will survive many hard falls.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

Across the board the PNP coils work extremely well.

I have my favourites of course but regardless of which coil you use, you will enjoy a good vape once you get the wattage and airflow set how you like it.

Is the Voopoo Drag Max Kit be versatile enough to suit a new and experienced vapers?

For a new vaper the Voopoo Drag Max may be a little over-the-top.

I would probably suggest starting with the Drag S, an internal battery version which is much more pocket friendly and also has an automatic draw system.

But the Voopoo Drag Max does everything very well, there really isn’t much that this kit can’t do, especially if you happen to pick up the Special Edition.

Did you buy the VooPoo Drag Max?

Or have you tried it?

The Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA comes from a German-based manufacturer who are mainly known for their Expromizer range. The Expromizer V4 RTA being their latest, and very popular device. Neash Vape himself gave the V4 a very high rating of 8.7/10.

Personally, I’ve had no experience with Exvape or any of their products, so I’m quite interested to see what the fuss is all about.

Have you noticed the massive Elephant in the room? Oh wait that’s not an Elephant, that’s the Wotofo Profile RDTA!

That’s right, I feel the Expromizer TCX hasn’t really came out at the right time, the profile RDTA was quite recently released, with Steel Rods to help with Wicking and a Mesh Build Deck.

Couple that with the option of breaking it down into an RDA and personally I thoroughly enjoyed the Profile RDTA, so the TCX has a lot of work to do to impress me more than the Profile did.

What Can We Expect From the Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA?

The TXC rendition of the Expromizer is predominantly a Mesh RDTA, with the typical ceramic spring loaded block and a clamp either side. The TXC has top adjustable airflow and the main feature is the 6 steel wire wicking rods which adorn the bottom half of the tank.

It is also possible to use regular round-wire coils with this deck, however it’s not completely geared up for the task, especially in comparison to the Wotofo Profile RDTA which has both Posts for coils, and clamps for mesh.

Regardless of its similarities to the Wotofo Profile RDTA, what I really want to know is if the design has been thought out better than he Profile, is the airflow smoother and do Exvape’s Mesh strips produce better flavour and a better all-round experience?

So let’s crack on and see how this performs!

This was sent to me free of charge for the purpose of this review, as always my views are my own.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Sandblasted version of the Exvape Expromizer TCX, and at a glance the tank looks very well made, high quality and extremely clean.

I don’t normally start this section of the review with a negative, unfortunately in this instance I need to, and before I forget.

I really must stress how ‘Stiff’ every section of this tank was when opening it up for the first time. The Drip-tip for example was so stiff to remove, I had to use a tool to remove it!

Following on from that, taking apart the top-cap from the base, the airflow from the top-cap and every other part was almost painful.

Now they do loosen over a bit of time and of course a little VG lubrication does help, but nonetheless there are still sections of this tank which are just too tight.

Ok rant over.

The Expromizer TCX is a very tall 25mm RDTA. It’s almost the same height as an 18650 battery in comparison, so you’re going to need the right Device to house this big fella.

Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA – Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

At the top is an extremely snug 810 drip tip, its nothing fancy but its comfortable to vape on. There is however a nice thick O-ring inside, so use of your own 810 drip-tips is absolutely fine. Just expect a tight fit.

The top-Cap is fairly easy to remove once lubricated and is nicely knurled to allow for comfortable airflow adjustment, but again a little on the stiff side.

The Top-Cap has Dual airflow with 6-punched holes on both sides.

Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA – Inner Chamber

Like most RDTA’s, the main chamber is pretty much like the barrel for an RDA and is kept snugly in place thanks to the Double O-Rings on the base of the deck.

The inside of the barrel itself is not the usual ‘domed’ style we’re used to seeing these days but its functional.

Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA – Deck

If you don’t know much about mesh build decks then the TCX deck may be a little confusing. For those who know of the Wotofo Profile line of Tanks and drippers then this deck will look extremely familiar.

The deck itself hosts 2 large clamps and between them is a spring loaded ceramic block.

The idea being that a rainbow shaped mesh strip is installed between the clamps with your cotton ran under the mesh strip.

That’s when the Ceramic Block makes the magic happen and pushed the cotton up against the mesh, even as the cotton starts to break down, the ceramic block will continue to keep it pressed against the mesh strip.

It’s a very clever and simple design that is now being used by a number of manufacturers

Also punched into the base of the deck is 6 fairly sizeable holes. There is an option to plug 2 of these holes with the included bungs, but personally I was happy to make use of all 6 Steel Wicking rods to help with cotton saturation. More on this shortly.

Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA – Bottom Section

The lower barrel of the TCX is effectively your tank, and the glass is cleverly protected thanks to the nicely styled housing with ‘EX’ cut out.

Inside the bottom section is where your 6 rods will be placed and these allow for e-liquid to reach the cotton.

Now before we carry on, I must stress that the Steel Wire Rods ARE NOT Anti-Gravity devices which make liquid run upwards but they do work to an extent.

The main thing with most RDTA’s is that movement is extremely important. The movement of the e-liquid will help hugely with the saturation of the cotton.

How Does The Exvape Expromizer TCD RDTA Perform?

Building on the Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA

Let’s be straight here, If you have any experience with the Profile Deck, in any form. Or even some of the other Mesh-Style Decks from other manufacturers which base their design on the Profile then you really wont gain much from this section. Just saying!

However if this is your first Mesh Build deck, or even your first Mesh RDTA then This bit might be quite useful.

Here’s how to build on the Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA

Make use of the handy Mesh Bending Tool included in the Kit:

Form the mesh gently, then place the ends on either side of the clamps, ensuring the clamps are open wide enough. However, don’t open them too far as they are easy to fall out:

Once installed, pulse the mesh strip at 20w gently to ensure an even burn and also cleans off any machine oil:

The included cotton is actually fairly good, get the strip and gently slide the cotton under the mesh ensuring the cotton is even with no major tight spots.

Before cutting the cotton too short, I strongly suggest raking the cotton at each end quite a lot, because of he steel rods, you really don’t need a massive amount of cotton packed into either side of the deck, less is more with this one.

Once complete, saturate the cotton as much as you can, and pulse the Mesh every now and then to help with saturation.

After that you’re free to fill with e-liquid, however I strongly advise placing the barrel on first and aligning the barrel with the clever filling port as its very easy to lose the small silicon filling bung if you don’t have the barrel on first! And there is no spare!

Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA – Flavour and Clouds

The 0.2 Mesh strips come with no recommended wattage, however personally I had a bit of a great joy in using this RDTA in two different ways.

45w Airflow Halfway Open

At this wattage, with the AFC open for 3 holes, the vape experience is very relaxing. It’s a cool vape with very little noise but very good flavour and of course a nice cloud to boot.

It is restrictive, certainly not too tight but it takes a little bit of work for your lungs but for some reason I just enjoyed this relaxed approach, usually later on in the day

65w Airflow Open

With the airflow all the way open at 65 watts the Expromizer TXC RDTA comes to life in a big way. The flavour is slightly improved and a little warmth is added.

No longer was it the subtle chilled out tank it was previously and it instantly becomes a harder hitting mesh monster.

Surprisingly the noise from this tank remains very quiet regardless of how you set it, and it’s extremely smooth across the board with very little noise at all which is impressive.

But this is a slightly more restrictive Open-Lung vape than I would prefer. Its not tight, don’t get me wrong. When fully open its airy enough but there is still some restriction there.

Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA – Do the Rods Work?

Going back to the Profile RDTA for a minute, In my experience the Profile RDTA does a good job, but not the best with wicking. 4 thick rods are used and the Profile struggles to keep up at times, especially with High VG e-liquids.

The Expromizer TCX RDTA does a better job with wicking across the board. Thanks to their smaller gauge and being that there are 6 of them makes for a much better wicking experience and even with chain vaping the TXC seems to keep up very well

What it comes down to really though is the cotton and how much you stuff into the wells.

Less really is more with this RDTA and some people may find they have a battle on their hands to get it right. But I’m afraid that’s a battle anyone who has used, or uses a mesh deck comes across. It’s just one of those things.

Pros

  • High Build Quality and finish
  • Easy to build on
  • Excellent Wicking from Steel Rods
  • Glass is well protected by the Tank Shield

Cons

  • Tolerances are too tight
  • Airflow may be a little restrictive for some
  • Naturally hard to wick perfect
  • Filling bung falls out
  • Very Tall!

Final Review Verdict

I really didn’t think a Mesh RDTA with airflow being situated so high up on the tank would work, but It does.

The big questions for me was how does the airflow compare and how do Exvape’s own mesh strips perform. In essence they work excellently. The airflow is restrictive yes, but its super quiet and very very smooth.

The mesh strips, although I wish were the same size as the Profile perform very well but I believe they could improve them further by creating a Mesh strip which covers more area. So a tighter Knit mesh may be a good option?

As good as the Profile?

Personally I prefer the Deck and the airflow on the Profile, but the Steel Rod System and wicking on the Expromizer TCX is better. The addition of 2 more rods along with them being of a smaller diameter just seems to improve coil saturation and I spend less time worrying about getting a dry hit from hell!

Did you, or will you buy the Exvape Expromizer TCX RDTA?

We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

I just want to put it out there that this review is for the Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA, there is also a Dead Rabbit V2 RDA and you shouldn’t confused them, no matter how similar they are RTAs and RDA always perform differently.

Hellvape dead rabbit v2 review

If you don’t know who Hellvape are, you must be fairly new to RBAs. Since their launch in 2016, Hellvape have made a huge impact across the DIY vape industry.

Quite interestingly the ‘about us’ page on there website doesn’t brag about anything… at all, it’s a very modestest compared to a lot of other companies websites… Although I do like that there website isn’t very boastful, it does make writing an introduction for such a popular company much harder.

Apart from the Trishul Mechanical Mod and the recently released Grimm Pod Kit; which is a product of a collaboration between Grimm Green, Ohm Boy and Hellvape, their catalogue consists of entirely Tanks and RBAs (2x Sub ohm Tanks, 14 x RDAs, 6 x RTAs and 1 x RDTA).

To name just a few of HellVapes most popular devices there is the;

I have tried most of the above and although I think they are all decent, some of them are really good. Hope’s hope the Dead Rabbit V2 RTA is as good or maybe even better!

What Can We Expect From The HellVape Dead Rabbit V2?

Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA is obviously the upgraded version of original Dead Rabbit RTA, which begs the question, what has been changed and has it changed for the better?

Let’s start from the outside, the first thing I noticed to be different is the top fill. The original Dead Rabbit RTA did have a top fill system, where you had to remove the top cap, the V2 has a push/slide out top fill cap; definitely an upgrade in my opinion.

dead rabbit v2 assembly

It still has knurled grip where it’s needed but is has been upgraded to a more aesthetically pleasing and unique pattern.

On the bottom there is this strange looking cog thing, this is a PC insulation plate to prevent heat transfer to your mod.

Going inside, the top side adjustable airflow is upgraded to diagonal honeycomb airflow to focus on flavor and to minimize leaking.

The Dead Rabbit V2 RTA has similar ‘Rabbit Ear’ style posts to its predecessor but like the Dead Rabbit V2 RDA these posts are angled in a “Y” shape, making it easier to trim the coil legs. The holes are also bigger, allowing the use of thicker coils to fit the clamp.

Integrated deck with anti rotation, this is basically a system then ensures the coils are always positioned in the right place in accordance to the airflow direction.

I’m an RDA or RDTA person, I don’t think many RTAs are capable of producing flavour like RDAs and RDTA’s can, so that’s something I’m going to be looking for. Also Hellvape claim this beast can handle single and dual coils… we’ll see about that!

I’m a simple guy, all I really want is great performance (good whole mouth flavour and thick clouds) from different types of coils, with different build styles without leaking while been easy to build on, with a good meaningful adjustable airflow. See I don’t want much!

Design & Build Quality

Hellvape produce the Dead Rabbit V2 RTA in 9 different colours.

colour optionsI want to point out, that because of the position of the airflow bands on the picture above, it looks like the airflow band is curved in / thinner than the rest of the tank, that’s not the case, it is just because of the holes that it looks like that.

Although that might be obvious, it did confuse me for a moment…

The HellVape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA Assembly

Lets take it to bits and look at it from bottom to top…

Connection and Insulation Plate

The Dead Rabbit V2 RTA has a 510 connection with a gold plated pin, the threads are nice and everything is well.

pc thermal insulator

The interesting thing is the thermal insulation plate, underneath the tank there is a ‘well’ that’s about 1.5mm deep, inside that well is a 1.75mm thick PC (Polycarbonate) thermal insulator, in the shape of a cog.

That insulator is there for 2 reasons, first of all it is an insulator, so it stops (or lessens) the heat transfer from the RTA to the mod. Secondly, if you didn’t notice, the PC is about 0.25mm deeper than the actual well that it sits in, to protect your mod from the hard metal scratching your mod.

Because the insulator only protrudes from the tank by such a small amount it is not noticeable.

Hellvape dead rabbit v2 rta thermal insulator

Another great thing about the insulator, is that it screws on and off, which is nice to see from a cleaning and maintenance perspective.

However because it is plastic, I would warn you to be careful in case of wearing out the threads, though I have took it off several times and it is still nice and smooth.

The Y Styled Rabbit Ear Deck

There is nothing wrong with the deck.

I mean seriously.. did you expect there to be something wrong with the deck? Let’s face it, it would be pretty surprising if it was low quality.

Hellvape dead rabbit v2 build deck

The deck is very reminiscent of the original Dead Rabbit RTA, but it is certainly not the same!

The posts make more of a Y shape than a T shape and the holes for the coils are bigger and square, allowing for thicker coils and I personally think it makes the whole building process a bit easier and nicer.

You may have also noticed on the outside of the wicking holes, there are these little ‘walls’ at very first glance I thought, “oh yeah look at that, I suppose it makes it easier to keep the wick tidy…”, however when I actually took a proper look at the RTA I realized these walls are apart of the anti-rotation system… Which is kind of obvious really.

The Airflow & Anti Rotation System

As I’ve literally just mentioned, on the deck is 2 walls, one behind each wicking hole.

These ‘walls’ fit perfectly into the bottom of the internal airflow chamber, and it is there where the anti rotation system was born.

internal honeycomb airflow

When you first attach the deck to the tank, it doesn’t feel quite right and it’s not making contact with the threads (and now we know why) but honestly other than having to rotate the deck until it falls in place (like you have to on most RTAs) you wouldn’t really even notice this system exists.

This is pretty much a necessity for any top airflow RTAs, however not all designs execute it all that well. Some designs are a bit fiddly and awkward to use, it’s all subject to opinion, however the point I’m trying to make is the connection processes is very similar to the base connection of any sub-ohm tank.

From the outside the airflow is just a decent sized hole, however thanks to the internal airflow chamber the air is pulled diagonally down and then through a 6 x 3 honeycomb grill before hitting the coil, on each side.

In regards to the draw, the airflow isn’t restriction free but I like my airflow nice and free, and I think it’s ample. Turning the airflow band all the way down doesn’t make the system air tight, but it is tight enough not to allow DTL Vaping.

It could be argued that DTL Vaping is possible with airflow turned off, but it does cause an extremely tight draw.

HellVape Dead Rabbit V2 Top Cap & Top Fill

I like things to be as easy, efficient and fiddle free as possible, so I was delighted to see that the Dead Rabbit V2 has a slide out top fill system; unlike its predecessor which has a removable top cap filling system.

top fillIn my opinion, the sliding system on the V2 has the right amount of resistance, it doesn’t open too easy for it to be a problem but it’s also not too tight for it to be a pain.

Usually this type of design can be problematic because designers often make it so you cannot remove the top cap, although this might sound meaningless, I think it is really bad for cleaning and maintenance. However, the top cap of the Dead Rabbit V2 easily unscrews allowing you to remove it and access the rubber seal, making it easy to clean or replace it if it breaks of swells.

top fill and top cap

The sliding top cap doesn’t have a screw or any other system in place to tighten if it comes loose.

I haven’t has a problem with it coming loose (in the 3 weeks that I’ve used it). And looking at how it is designed, with the rubbers, I don’t think it will ‘work itself loose’ at any point soon.

Once or twice, I did the old problem when the liquid blocks up the fill hole and pours down the tank, so be careful with that and take your time filling it.

HellVape Dead Rabbit V2 Drip Tip

The drip tip that comes with the Dead Rabbit V2 is very low, standing at only 5mm above the top cap (or 6mm depending there you measure from). This doesn’t leave much room for your lips, making it super hard to drag on without your lips touching the top cap.

drip tip

However I should point out that at no point did I notice the top cap was warm against my lips; honestly I didn’t even realise how short it was until I looked at it for the review, so it really isn’t that much of a big deal.

If you don’t like the drip tip you’ll be happy to know it is a standard 810 drip tip, supported by 1 O-ring inside the top cap.

Design & Build Summary

There isn’t anything I don’t like about the Hellvape Dead Rabbit RTA. It all functions as it should, it’s easy and efficient to use.

The knurled grip is always great to see on any atomizer but hellvape have put the effort in to make it look good rather than the standard knurled we usually see.

The deck is awesome for novices and experts alike. The Y shaped rabbit ear posts make it super easy to build on and the overall design allows for room to play. By room to play, I mean it allows you to use the coils you want to use rather than having to use a specific build to get great flavour.

Building on the Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA

There isn’t a major difference in building this RTA to building any other, so I’m going to skip the long tedious how to, because I imagine the majority of you reading this will already know how to build an RTA, so I’ll just skip to some pointers.

Hellvape dead rabbit v2 build deck

The pointers should make it easier for any novice to build on this RTA, however if you don’t know where to start, there will be a (2x speed) build demonstration at the end of my video review that is embedded towards the top of this page.

Coil height and Leg Length

coil placement

First of all I found that when using a gauge, if you cut the legs at 7.5mm long the legs stand on the deck leaving the coils at about the perfect height.

This also takes away all awkward holding the coils at the right height when calming them in and thanks to the Y shaped rabbit ears it’s super easy to cut away the legs after tightening the screws.

Play About All Over The Place

I’ve found the coil placement isn’t super strict. Looking at Hellvape’s illustrations, the coils are placed pretty close together towards the center, however I’ve spent most of my time more out towards the edges.

Either is fine, the way I see it, just chuck them in and after a while move them a little to find where you prefer them.

Just remember not to let the coils touch each other or the cap and the closer the coils are to each other the more heat they will produce, so don’t get too carried away.

Time To Get Fluffy With The Dead Rabbit V2

Anyone that knows me will know I’m not a major fan or fluffing or thinning, amateur hour or what? However I did go to town on this little beast.

build deck options

The fourth set of coils I tried was a set of Tank Tracks with 6 wraps, I thinned and fluffed the cotton out, placed it nicely in the wicking holes and on my way I went.

I’m not quite sure what went wrong but it was pretty slow at wicking. The next day I took the coils out and too my surprise the cotton was still pretty wet. Still to this day I’m not fully sure what happened but it was either:

  • The wick was too long (I had cut it at the O-Ring)
  • 6 wraps of Tanks tracks made the coil too wide, maybe?
  • The wick wasn’t thin enough, despite my though thinning and there being plenty of room

Either way I cut the wicks a few millimeters shorter, put some not so wide fused claptons in and thinned the wicks even more, then it was fine.

Actually, at this point there was lots of room in the wicking hole due to my super heavy thinning, so I expected leaking without a shadow of a doubt… but it didn’t leak… not a single drop in 3 days.

A Single Dead Rabbit

Truth be told, nothing changes, apart from the size of the coil and wick.

Hellvape dead rabbit v2 single coil

I made a 4mm inner diameter fused clapton coil (5 wraps 0.4ohms) and banged it in using diagonal posts, but keeping the coil straight. I still kept the coils legs at 7.5mm and still thinned the cotton (but not as much because there is less cotton present to start with).

I was super happy with the flavour and vapour production, truth be told the flavour was a lot better than I expected.

How Does Harley Like His Dead Rabbit V2 Built

Honestly, there wasn’t a build I didn’t like.

I’ve used Ribbon Twist coils, Mix Twist coils, Quad Coils, Fused Clapton coils and Tank Track coils, and fired at resistance ranges from 0.1ohm all the way up to 0.45ohm.

I’ve tried the coils close to the centre, and more out towards the edge.

All of those coils and set ups above produced great flavour and great vapour.

As I write this I’ve got 2 x 6 wrap fused claptons in, reading 0.28ohms, placed more towards the centre, I’m firing it at 140W (although I acknowledge that’s probably a bit too hot for a lot of people) and I have to say I’m in my happy place. I like what I’m getting.

Pros

  • Good Flavour
  • Good with Dual and Single Coils
  • Replaceable 810 Drip Tip
  • Adjustable top airflow
  • Sliding Top Fill
  • PC Thermal Insulation Plate To protect Mod
  • Y Shaped Rabbit Ear Deck
  • Easy To Build

Cons

  • Wicking has to be right
  • Purging blows vape in your face due to airflow design
  • Filling can lead to vacuum leaking
  • Original Drip-tip is low profile

Final Verdict

I love it, I actually took a full day to write the Cons list because I couldn’t think of anything.

I love how versatile the builds can be and still perform brilliantly with that and the design of the posts, this is a great RTA for anybody regardless of your previous experience rebuilding.

Although the wicking can take a bit of trial and error I don’t think it’s hard to do even for starters.

All in all I think the Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA looks good, feels good and works great.

I’ve just received the Kizoku TechMod, it’s really small and my immediate first impressions are it looks pretty cool and kind of cute.

However I have a confession, I’m a bit in the dark with Kizoku, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of them before, so I took a look around the World Wide Web and here’s what I found.

kizoku mod screen

KIZOKU were founded in 2018 in Japan.

We specialize in manufacturing and selling high-quality vaping products with outstanding design and technology…

We have been carrying out extensive research and investing in innovation so we could offer excellent products to meet vaper’s needs.

Although Kizokus’ product range isn’t huge (understandably), they have an interesting and innovative accessory: the Cell Atty Stand, which uses magnets to allow you to order your atomisers however you choose.

Their catalogue also includes the Kirin Disposable Tank, Kirin Semi-Mech Tube Mod, Limit PC Tank Kit, Limit MTL RTA and the Unlimit DL RTA.

It’s worth mentioning the RTA’s I’ve just mentioned can also be used with stock coils. (in essence they are sub ohm tank / RTA hybrids).

What To Expect From The Kizoku TechMod?

First of all I want to point out that the mod is called TechMod and NOT Mech-Mod. Unlike a Mech Mod the TechMod has built in protections.

The very first thing you will notice when unboxing the Kizoku TechMod is it’s size, because it is ultra small.

kizoku mod bottom base

Thanks to it’s ‘side-by-side’ design the Kizoku TechMod is ultra compact measuring at just 78mm high, 49mm wide and 24mm thick.

Bearing in mind this is a side-by-side mod, the height of the device won’t be affected too much by a tank, although it will restrict the size of tank you can use.

Despite how small it looks, it takes a single 18650, takes a 2A charge and fires from 5-80W. It also has 4 modes (Variable Voltage / Variable Wattage / Temperature Control / Bypass).

The fire button is on the front of the device. I haven’t started using it yet but it looks like it might be a bit awkward to hold… We’ll have to find out.

I’m going to find a tank that fits and put a battery in it.

Let’s see what this compact beast can do…

Design & Build Quality

The Kizoku TechMod comes in 4 different colours, they all look pretty cool although I don’t think I’d be able to keep the white one white for very long.

kizoku mod colours

Side By Side Mods & Tank Compatibility

Side by side literally means the tank is at the side of the battery, as you would expect this literally means the tank size is limited by the distance between the 510 connection to the side of the mod.

The tank in the picture above is the Aspire K Lite.

kizoku mod with k lite tank by aspire

With the Kizoku TechMod that limit is 24mm. Therefore we are limited to tanks that are 24mm in diameter at the widest point, meaning you can’t use a 24mm atomizer with a bubble glass.

The depth of the 510 connection plate is just shy of 30mm so there shouldn’t be a problem finding a tank tall enough. Although it is worth mentioning, a tank smaller than 30mm tall, would be awkward to use.

kizoku mod with the freemax gemm disposable tank

For context, the well known Digiflavour Drop RDA is 24mm wide but only 26.5mm high, plus the 8mm tall drip tip.

Kizoku TechMod Battery Cap

The Kizoku TechMod battery cap is a screw system.

I quite like it, on the downside it take a little bit longer to change your battery but on the upside it’s a lot less likely to break or come loose.

kizoku mod battery cap

The threads are nice too making it fairly easy to put the battery cap on and take it off.

Thanks to the open design it is also pretty easy to get a grip of the cap to loosen or tighten it.

Kizoku TechMod Body

The body consists of a Zinc Alloy frame that has a satin like finish. “TECHMOD” is embossed on the front of the frame, with the fire button above it.

There is 2 SS304 (Stainless Steel) panels, one that forms the battery compartment and one that surrounds the USB-C port on the back, as well as the screen and buttons which are on the front.

kizoku mod back usbc port

The Kizoku Logo is embossed in to the side of the battery compartment but both logos are nice and discrete, they are in no way “in your face“.

side by side mod

Overall the TechMod is relatively light but still feels fairly durable and trustworthy.

Kizoku TechMod Screen

The screen on the TechMod is 22x6mm in size.

It’s a simple, black and white display interface, but I like it.

mod screen

On the left side of the screen is the power setting (Volts, Wattage or Temperature). In the middle is the power mode (VW, Power -VW), Temperature or by pass with the current coil resistance below.

On the right side is the Battery Level Indicator, which comprises of 5 bars when full, with the puff time counter below.

Buttons & The Kizoku TechMod In Hand

The buttons are decent, they are easy to press, have that radial type grip and they don’t rattle.

mod buttons

I originally thought the button being on the side of the device would make it awkward to hold and use but thanks to the compact design that’s not really the case.

Using The Kizoku TechMod

Insert Battery

  • Unscrew the battery cap using your fingers
  • Insert battery positive side first
  • Rescrew the battery cap on using your fingers, it doesn’t need to be super tight

Operating

  • Turn On / Off = Press fire button 5 times within 2 seconds
  • Switch Power Mode = Press fire button 3 time in quick succession then press ‘+’ or ‘-‘
  • Adjust Power / Temp Settings = press ‘+’ or ‘-‘ hold to move faster
  • Lock/Unlock Power Adjustment = press and hold ‘+’ and ‘-‘ simultaneously for 2 seconds, until screen displays ‘locked’/’unlocked’

How Does The Kizoku TechMod Perform?

Menus, Navigation & Display

There isn’t really any menus the navigation is pretty standard and the display is pretty basic.

Although there isn’t anything ‘special’ about the 3, I like them, far too often in the vape industry (and other tech industries), companies try far too hand to innovate and make the system too ‘flashy’ it’s nice to go back to the basics but still have some key features like VV, VW, TC and bypass.

Kizoku TechMod Battery Life

The Kizoku TechMod Battery life is very dependent on what type of batteries you are using, especially what mAH the batteries have.

The most common 18650’s are 2,500mAh and 3,000mAh.

kizoku mod 510 connection

I’ve been using a Sony VTC6 (3000mAh) for the most time I was using it at 60-80W and getting about 8-10 hours out of a battery, which is what you would expect.

Don’t forget, if you use an external battery charger, you can always carry a spare battery with you. If you do, just remember to keep your spare in a plastic battery.

However I did notice when the battery gets to 2/5 bars left the mod secretly starts to struggle to pull power… but it’s not that secretive because it’s very noticeable.

Kizoku TechMod Charging

The Kizoku TechMod takes a 2A charge, meaning you can get your 3000mAh battery from flat to full in about 1 hour and a half, whilst a 2500mAh battery would take about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Although I try to always charge my batteries via an external dedicated battery charger, if you do use the built in USB-C port for charging, the screen displays the battery level.

Is the Kizoku TechMod Durable

I think I’m slowly getting a reputation for being a bit heavy handed with my mods…

I mean, my personal ones, don’t last me very long at all.

For example I’m currently using the Geekvape Aegis, I’ve been using it for about 6 months, I haven’t ‘stress tested’ it or done anything with it really and it’s already pretty much doomed.

However the TechMod seems trust worthy.

I think the most common things to break on a mod is the battery door / USB-C charger.

Well we don’t really need a USB-C charger, we can pick up a dedicated charger for about £10 (at time of writing).

It doesn’t have a hinged or magnetic battery door, it has a screw cap…so far so good.

I’d say the next most vulnerable part of any mod is the 510 connection / connection plate but even here we are protected.

Because of the nature of a Side-By-Side mod, the connection plate will be under a lot less stress from the tank being pushed and pulled, it’s also a lot less likely to get danged by the mod landing tank side down if dropped.

All in all, I trust the Kizoku TechMod, it feels durable and i can’t see where there would be any vulnerabilities.

Pros

  • Small Compact Design
  • Durable
  • 18650 Battery
  • 2A Charge rating
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Limited tank size
  • Very Basic Functions
  • Battery Indictor is missleading

Final Review Verdict

First of all I’ve got to put it out there, this type of device is not for me.

I’m power hungry (higher power and longer life).

I’ve also noticed, pretty much every one of my tanks are bigger than 24mm.

However as always I’m reviewing the device for what it is and it is a good little device for someone that wants a small compact device that is packing lots of power.

For a device this size to have an 18650 battery and power up to 80w is pretty impressive.

It is basic but still has VV, VW, TC, bypass and I think it is well built and designed to be durable.

So we’ve established it’s not for me, but who is it for?

If you are looking for a Mouth To Lung device that has a good battery life / external battery that is compact in design or you don’t mind a small tank then this is definitely for you.

The 24mm tank limit makes me want to suggest the mod is better for MTL Tanks but there is MTL tanks that are bigger than 24mm and if the tank is a lot smaller than 24mm, you loose some of the extra security for the 510 connector.

So is this a side-by-side mod you’re interested in buying or are already using?
