As the name suggests the Dovpo Riva DNA250C mod is a new box mod featuring the popular Evolv DNA250C chipset.

The Riva isn’t the first Dovpo device to have a DNA chip. Some others include the Odin 200Mini DNA75C Mod and the College DNA60 mod.

Dovpo Riva DNA250 Mod in hand

Placing themselves right at the beginning of the ‘Vaping Boom‘, Dovpo was founded in 2012 with a vision of offering innovative vapes and being an industry-leading brand. Its mission is to be a reliable and to make the best possible devices.

Dovpo is one of those brands that I haven’t had tons of experience with, but it is also a brand that I respect and appreciate.

Let’s get to it and see what the Evolv DNA250C Mod has to offer…

What Can We Expect From The Dovpo Riva DNA250C Mod?

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C is a 200w dual 18650 mod, which I found surprising because the mod feels quite big so I was expecting a dual 21700 mod, but look at it now I suppose it is a little but too thin for dual 21700s.

With the use of real leather and Zinc Alloy the mod looks and feels pretty smart.

Thanks to the Evolv DNA250C chipset, the Riva has wattage control, temperature control and balanced charging.

The mod also has a watt boost mode and even a ‘Replay‘ mode.

It has a 0.96″ colour TFT screen which has has not been wasted, there is so much to look at!

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C mod has a micro-USB which I think is a little bit disappointing but it does has a 2A charge rate.

According to Dovpo the 510 connection can accommodate 26mm atomisers or smaller.

Design & Build Quality

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C Mod is available in 9 different colours.

As you can see in the picture, all the colours consist of either a silver, gunmetal or black Zinc Alloy frame, with different leather patches.

I received the Silver and Dark Brown, however it’s that dark, I’d bet my life savings that it is black.

Dovpo Riva DNA250C Mod Body

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C is made of zinc alloy with a real leather patch on the back.

Combined they feel great, the Zinc alloy is nice and smooth, while the leather is awesomely comfy and warm to touch, together they are really inviting.

At the beginning of the review, I said it’s pretty big and it is, but it isn’t huge.

Thanks to it’s shape the Riva feels pretty good in hand, irregardless of whether you prefer to fire with your finger or thumb.

Dovpo Riva DNA250C Buttons

The Riva has 4 buttons in total, the fire button, a select button and the ‘-‘/’+’ buttons.

I do love mods with a select button.

They just make operation simpler and open the door to more functionality.

The fire button is round with a diameter of 10mm and it protrudes from the front of the mod by 2.5mm (including it’s surround).

Maybe that’s why it’s nice and easy to press, however the downside of it protruding more than any of the other buttons, it is pretty good at firing in your pocket, if you leave it on.

The other 3 buttons measure at 9.5 x 5mm and again they’re nice and easy to press.

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C 510 Connector

The 510 connection on the Dovpo Riva DNA250C Mod is placed at the front of the mod.

I know there will be many people wishing that the 510 was centred to allow bigger atomisers.

Dovpo Riva DNA250 Mod with the hellvape dead rabbit v2 rta

Let’s face it, if it was centred we would be able to fit at least up to a 33mm atties, however that isn’t the case so we are restricted to 26mm – personally I don’t mind that.

The connection plate is held down by 2 torx screws. Although it feels quite secure, again I know a lot of people reading this will be wary of it coming loose. I understand that because I seem to be really good at breaking connectors with this type of fixing.

I have to admit when buying a mod I don’t usually pay attention to how the connection plate is held down because this style is really popular, and lets be fair it does also depend on how the mod is designed under the plate.

For example if the hole is tight and designed well, it will be more durable that just a round hole.

Dovpo Riva DNA250 Mod 510 connector

If I haven’t already mentioned the threads are beautifully smooth.

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C Battery Door

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C mod makes use of a hinged bottom door.

Again this is one of those designs that make me a bit cautious and they’re quite common.

The problem with this kind of battery door is the latches often wear away or bend making it less secure.

However on the Riva mod the latch is fairly big, making it less likely to ware away and the entire door is quite thick making it less likely to bend.

Dovpo has managed to fix one of my annoyances with this type of door though.

I am terrible for accidentally catching the door and dropping the batteries but as we mentioned the latch is pretty big, additionally it feels a bit tighter. As you would expect it doesn’t even attempt to open when jolted.

That’s not what I’m on about though, the Riva has a spring in the hinge preventing it fully open. Not allowing the door to open fully prevents the batteries from falling out, so if you do accidentally open it, your batteries won’t drop.

Fear not though with a small amount of effort you can push the door fully open to allow the batteries out.

All in all it opens and closes pretty nicely. I have to say it’s built pretty well, there’s no wiggling or wobbling.

Dovpo Riva DNA250C Screen

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C has a 0.96″ TFT Colour Screen, which is a common size screen for mods at the minute, but because the mod is so big it looks so small.

The screen is absolutely rammed with information but it’s simple at the same time… I like it. Here’s what I mean.

First of all while the device is turned off the screen can still be on…. I don’t like that but the screen shows the coil resistance and battery level across the top. The battery level is displayed as both a bar and percentage.

Just below that is the time and date, with the Evolv logo in the center.

When you press the any button a little * appears at the bottom of the screen, if you press the fire button 5 times, it then unlocks but if you press any other buttons when you get to the 5th press the *’s turn orange, as if to say access denied.

When the device is ‘turned on’, the resistance and battery info at the top stays the same.

However below that we have the current mode, power setting and the settings menu button… which is simply the word “Settings”. Information appears below that, for example “Firing”, “Weak Battery” and so on.

With a black and white screen which uses a blue selector, the display looks very… mature. I was expecting a colour change option in the settings but I couldn’t find any… and Dovpo didn’t let me have the manual, so I’m only 99% sure that you can’t change the screen colour.

Using Dovpo Riva DNA250C Mod

To get the mod up and running all you need to do is slide the battery door open, put your batteries in (see the battery door for battery rotation indicators), then close the door.

At this point the mod turns on and you should see the ‘Off’ screen, as described above.

Dovpo Riva DNA250C Operation

  • On/Off = Fire button 5 times
  • Select = Select button (between ‘+’ and ‘-‘)
  • Navigate = ‘+’ or ‘-‘
  • Replay = Go to the replay mode, fire the device how you would normally at whatever wattage you prefer. The middle empty rectangle will now display “Save Puff” this will make the mod replicate the last puff when you fire, until you remove it. PLEASE NOTE: Replay is only for temperature wires (not standard, kanthal coils).

Change Mode or Power Setting

  • Navigate to the current mode or current power setting
  • Press the middle button to select it
  • Circle through the modes using ‘+’ or ‘-‘ until you get to the mode you want
  • Press the middle button to select and save

Dovpo Riva DNA250C Settings

To enter the settings menu, simply navigate to ‘Settings’ at the bottom of the screen and press the select button.

The settings menu goes in to some depth, so lets take a closer look.

First of all we have the atomiser settings, in here we can change the settings regarding power and resistance. So we can change the mode, manually change the resistance, get the mod to recheck the resistance, change the power setting, temperature, boost mode, and punch level (0-11).

Next up if the Puff Info. This is quite interesting because it displays a chart to show the power battery level and power/temperature setting for each puff. At the top is arrows to change which puff you’re looking at, between the arrows is the number of puff you’re looking at.

Diagnostics has a ton of information, but it is just information, we can’t actively change anything. There is 8 different information points including the boards temperature, USB input voltage and other information about the device.

Finally we have the System option, in this menu we can change the brightness, time and units. At the bottom is an ‘about‘ selection, which takes you to the general information about the mod including the serial number, and patents.

To go back at any point you just navigate to the ‘back‘ selection which is located at the bottom of every screen.

How Does The Dovpo Riva DNA250C Perform?

The first thing I always look at is the actual power output.

I like my coils and vapour hot. I mean my go to lately is dual coils reading at 0.2ohms and firing at 135w.

Dovpo Riva DNA250 Mod evolve turned off evolve chip

Now when you tell people that people always respond with “you can’t do that, ohms-law bla bla“. Well, sorry guys but Ohm’s Law is on my side, if you have the right mod and the right batteries.

The Dovpo Riva DNA250C can fire 0.2-8V and it can handle pretty high amps, although I’m not going to state what amps because the lack of a manual is making it hard to find the official amp specs.

Does It lie? Let’s Push It To It’s Limit

The only way I can follow on from that, is to check if it lies.

Now what I mean by ‘lie’ is often mods will let you set it to a wattage, but when you fire it, the mod isn’t capable of getting to that power so it just fires as high as it can.

Mods don’t technically lie because they often tell you the other information (Volts, Amps Resistance) and we can use that information to work out what it’s actually giving us.

So I set the mod to 200W went into the diagnostics menu and had the longest drag I could.

Using my 0.19ohm build the mod says it’s kicking out 5.5V (5.567V) and 29.3A. Using Ohms law we can work that out to be only 161.15W (and a resistance of 0.18771ohm to be more specific).

OK so it didn’t hit 200W with my 0.19ohm dual coil build, but that was pretty ambitious and let’s face it 161.15W on a 0.19ohm build is impressive and plentiful.

FYI: my [Samsung 30Q] batteries throughout this test were between 90-80% according to the mod – for anyone reading this…

Dovpo Riva DNA250C – Menus, Navigation & Display

I like the set up of this mod, it’s fancy but in a new way, they seem to have put information before a fancy screen.

The screen does look great, but in a more formal way… In other words it looks good without the graphics that look like something out of a car or spaceship.

Dovpo Riva DNA250 Mod turned on home screen

It’s easy to navigate and I liked it using. A downside for me was the fire button doesn’t act as a select button, which took some getting used to but at the same time, you can fire the mod while in the menus so that’s ‘six of one half a dozen of the other‘.

A little hack for you: on the home display the mod only goes up and down in increments of 0.5w.

However if you go into the atomiser settings you can go up and down in increments of 0.1w.

If you use the atomiser settings to change the wattage to 20.1w, the home settings will still adjust In 0.5w increments from 20.1 (for example 19.6w, 20.1w, 20.6w, 21.1w).

Battery Life & Charging

I don’t really want to go into the battery life too much because it is massively dependent on what batteries and power you are using.

However I will say, what I’m sure many people will be saying. I think the Riva mod would have benefited more with 21700 battery compatibility.

On the upside it does have 2A balanced charging. This basically means the mod recognizes each battery and looks after them when charging, rather looking after one more than the other.

Dovpo Riva DNA250C Durability

So we’ve discussed 2 potential weak spots in the design (the connection plate fixing and the battery door).

Although I can’t really comment on the connection plate, I am convinced the battery door is the most durable battery door, that I’ve ever seen of this style.

All in all, the mod is excellently built and I feel quite confident that it should be durable enough.

I do still feel reserved about the connection plate though…

Pros

  • Looks and Feels Great
  • Fast Firing
  • Really Well built – Especially the battery door
  • Very Information Friendly

Cons

  • Only 18650 (not 21700)
  • Potential 510 plate vulnerability

Final Review Verdict

It is a beautiful mod. It has a super elegant mature design. It is the business suit of mod and I can’t fault it.

In danger of repeating myself the one thing about the device that causes long term concern for me is the 510 connector, I’m not saying it’s not secure but at the same time I don’t dare say it is.

Mean while although the battery door utilizes my least favourite design, it is certainly the best of its kind. If I ever had confidence in a mod that had this style door, it would be this one. I really love how it doesn’t just fling open too.

The mod is fast firing and capable of packing a punch far more than many of us would like.

In regards to usability, Dovpo has diverted from the norm, there’s little bits about the mods operation that we don’t usually see. For example the mod doesn’t fully turn off, it logs relevant key presses on the screen and puts information at the forefront with it’s diagnostics menu.

It doesn’t look totally unique to some other devices on the market, but with it’s shape, zinc alloy and real leather, it certainly feels pretty special…

It’s a shame it’s not 21700 though!

The ZQ Essent DNA mod review and this is a smart looking single 21700 device – so how does it perform?

DNA mods these days tend towards the higher end, hand made end of the scale.

ZQ Essent Product Shot

There’s a couple of reasons for this, partly is the fact that the DNA boards and their partner in crime the Escribe software are very well regarded, for both wattage and temperature control, as well as the huge amount of customisation you can do.

There’s also the price of the boards themselves, which are not cheap. In fact to pick up a board at retail, it’s as much as many complete mods!

Finally, the scuttlebutt is that Evolv (maker of the DNA boards) got a little irritated at the amount of warranty returns they were getting from Chinese manufacturers who used their boards. Often discovering the fault lay not in the board, but in the quality of the mod…

So it’s very interesting to see a new mod coming out with a DNA 75C from a Chinese company.

If you want to read up a little more on DNA mods, you can check out our guide to them here.

What Can We Expect From The Essent by ZQ?

I had never heard of ZQ before the Essent showed up, and looking at their website it’s easy to see how I may have over looked them.

Its parent company is Skey, a vape distributor, and ZQ entered the vape market in 2018 with a pod system.

Since then they have released… mostly pod kits.

In fact the only other one of their products that we have reviewed, was the Xtal Pod Kit that Neil H took a look at here.

So a removable battery mod, running a DNA board, and looking like mods that cost twice the price, was a bit of a departure to say the least!

Clean looking single battery box mods have been a bit or a rarity in the mainstream, and you can understand why. Every manufacturer is trying to come up with their own “must have” device, and a lot of the attention has shifted to pod mods.

This is a reviewer designed mod, a collaboration in this case, between Steamshots TV and Smartin TV, two German reviewers.

I have to confess I had never heard of these two gentlemen, but there’s a nice welcome note in the packaging from them.

This was sent over to me free of charge directly from ZQ, thank you. As always, I will report back honestly on what I find, and my reviews are not influenced by freebies.

Design and Build Quality

The ZQ Essent comes in three colours, Black (which I received), Gunmetal, and Full Black, which is a limited edition (500 units).

Interestingly the Full Black version, which uses DLC to achieve it’s inky blackness, also seems to come with a 21700 battery in the box.

ZQ Essent Colourways

The packaging is very nice to look at. There’s a sleeve showing the device, over the top of of a smart black box that is held closed by magnets. Flip that magnetic flap open, and it’s displayed beautifully with a tissue-paper overlay that really highlights it.

ZQ Essent Internal Packaging

Unfortunately I will note that getting the accessories box out, which are sitting in a card box below your mod under the tissue paper, is an exercise in frustration! In the end, I resorted to tearing the cardboard slightly to pry it loose.

Hopefully this is not a sign of all flash and no finish in the mod itself!

ZQ Essent Body

It says on ZQ’s website the body is made from aluminium alloy, however I’m unsure if the top/bottom plates and battery tube are also aluminium, or if they are stainless steel.

Regardless, they are steel coloured, so I will refer to them as such!

With the black version that I have, the main body is finished in a silky smooth black finish. Very clean looking finishing with the only branding being an engraved ZQ Essent on one of the side panels.

ZQ Essent Engraving

With a steel battery tube running through the cut out the mod, it then has steel plates at the top and bottom. Not a terribly innovative design, but it’s classic and works well.

ZQ Essent Side View

The curve of the battery tube, and the slight angle where the sides meet the front of the mod, make it very comfortable to hold. Regardless of whether you prefer to thumb fire, or finger fire.

ZQ Essent Hancheck Thumb Fire

It’s a fairly lightweight mod at only 143g without a battery or atomizer, but it feels high end.

There’s something about a well finished mod, where everything seems solid and well put together. No creaking or flexing at all.

ZQ Essent Top Plate

I’m relieved that there’s no branding on the top plate.

The 510 plate is actually quite small, so it’s not going to be peaking out underneath any tanks you put on.

ZQ Essent Top Plate

There’s also two rather large torx screws that hold the plate onto the mod. I’m not thrilled with how these look, but it’s not like it’s ugly, I just wish for a cleaner finish.

ZQ Essent Base

The base is where you will find your regulatory marks and the company name “ZQ” printed.

ZQ Essent Bottom Plate

Bellow the printing are two torx screws, that mirror the two on the top of the mod, and your battery cap.

ZQ Essent Battery Cap

I know some people are really against screw down battery caps, as they’re definitely not as quick to change batteries as a hinged battery door. Also when you are changing batteries, you end up holding on to three things (mod, battery, and cap) rather than two.

I’m actually quite a fan of them for a couple of reasons. They are much harder to get wrong being one of the top ones. I have owned many mods over the years that have what would charitably be called “quirks” with their battery doors, and a few have just plain broken.

ZQ Essent Battery Connection

With a screw down battery cap that isn’t ever really going to be a problem. Also, by doing away with a spring to make sure the battery is firmly in place. They eliminate an area where you can get some voltage drop.

Again, it’s not a major thing, especially on a regulated mod. But you never want to be wasting potential vaping energy because your battery is losing voltage due to a dodgy spring.

The battery cap here is “fine”, but that’s the nicest I can be about it. The threading is not the smoothest, and there’s a tiny bit of crunching.

Also the only vent holes I can see on the mod are the two tiny ones on the cap. Something is always better than nothing in the event of a thermal event, but I can’t help wishing there was a bit more venting, if only for peace of mind.

I’m being super picky, because otherwise it’s such a well put together mod. But hey, that’s my job as a reviewer right?

Inside the tube you have an easy to see positive indicator, and the battery cap has a small negative indicator on it.

ZQ Essent Screen and Controls

The screen is a standard DNA75C – it’s not the largest at 0.9″, but plenty big enough to display all the information you require, and full colour (the “C” of 75C). Of course if you dive into the wide world of themes, you can make it look however you want.

The button configuration is likewise standard DNA. There’s a well sized round fire button above the screen, and three rounded rectangle buttons below.

ZQ Essent Screen

Underneath the buttons is your USB port, and because this is a DNA board, it’s a USB mini. Boo…

ZQ Essent Buttons and USB

Still, I can’t really knock any points of ZQ for that really, I just hope Evolv refresh their boards with USB C soon!

ZQ Essent Buttons

I have to say that the buttons deserve a special mention, although on the front they have the same smooth finish as the rest of the body, they have really eye catching chamfered edges.

These are polished up, so they have a jewel like sparkle of bare metal that contrasts with the black.

ZQ Essent Fire Button

It’s hard to photograph, but they really catch the light nicely. A really nice contrast with the almost matte black.

Adjustment Buttons

Also there is absolutely no button rattle – definitely a pro in my book!

ZQ Essent Wattage

The theme on this mod is pretty much stock DNA. Wattage is adjustable up to the maximum of 75W, but it doesn’t round robin.

There’s also a wattage boost mode. That seems to start at a higher wattage to kick your coil into life more quickly. This is probably most useful for coils that have quite a large mass and take a while to heat up.

Confusingly there is also Kanthal as an option. As far as I can tell, this is just another wattage mode.

Another slightly confusing thing for a wattage vaper, is that there is a temperature display on the mod at all times. Again, this is a quirk of the standard DNA 75C theme.

You don’t need to worry about it though, as it won’t have any effect when you are vaping in wattage mode.

ZQ Essent Temp Control

Temp Control aficionados are well looked after by Evolv’s board. You have a full range of options including.

  • Nickely 200
  • Titanium
  • Stainless Steel 316
  • Stainless Steel 430

Notably absent is a TCR mode, but this is something that if you want, you can use the EScribe suite to put in exact TCR values.

Another area of temp control is the much vaunted “Replay” mode. Replay mode essentially tries to take a lot of the faff out of temp control, allowing you to find your perfect vape, and then reproduce it.

How Does the ZQ Essent Perform?

This is a funny one to review, because lots of people will have used a DNA board before.

Indeed, the 75C itself has been out since 2017.

Handcheck Finger Fire

There’s a wealth of info out there for those who want to get more in depth on the board, and people have written plenty more than I have space for in this review. So I’m going to be focusing on how the mod actually is to use.

What Size Tank Can I Use?

The instructions say you can use up to a 26mm without overhang. In my testing I mostly used 24mm and 25mm tanks on it, and there was definitely room to spare.

One oddity I noticed was that the 510 plate is slightly further towards the front of the mod, leaving a little more space at the sides.

25mm RTA

So I think if it were set bad about 1mm further, it would manage a 27mm tank, which is the width of the mod.

Spacing of 510 Connector

Not a major thing, and I really am nitpicking here!

One positive thing to note is that it actually looks OK with a 22mm tank as well. Sometimes I find that a larger mod looks silly with some of my favourite MTL tanks, but this one actually looks OK.

OK, You’ve Mentioned EScribe, Do I Need This?

Yes.

Not enough? Let me explain.

As it’s set up, the screen will switch itself off after 30 seconds. That’s fine. However, it will lock itself after only a minute of inactivity.

I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating it is to put your mod down for a minute, only to have to unlock is every time.

Happily EScribe is compatible with Apple computers these days (it never used to be) so regardless if you are a Windows or MacOS user, you can take advantage of it.

One thing to note, is that because the mod is micro USB, if you are trying to connect to computer with just USB C ports (like most current Macs) you might run into problems with it not being recognised if you use a hub to give you standard USB A ports.

ZQ Essent – Switching Off Auto Lock

  • Plug your mod into your computer and open the EScribe software

Select Safety Tab

  • Select the “Safety” tab

Untick Lock When Idle

  • Untick “Automatically lock when idle”

Select Upload

  • Select “Upload Settings to Device”

Escribe Uploading

  • Disconnect your mod by pressing “Disconnect”, unplug, and you’re good to go!

Obviously you need to be remember that you have done this, it is after all a safety feature. So if you’re putting the mod in your pocket or a bag after disabling this, remember to lock it manually.

Anything Else?

I know at least one person has said that the mod prompts you to confirm your resistance whenever you unlock it. In use I never experienced this except with an atomizer that I know suffers from jumping resistance if it’s not tightened up properly.

So if you’re often getting a note asking if it’s a new coil when you unlock, check out your atomizer, as I would say that’s the most likely culprit!

Happily EScribe also includes a section to allow you to check if your resistance is jumping.

ZQ Essent Battery

Battery life is as good as any other single battery mod I’ve tested. Obviously if you use the 18650 adapter, you’ll get slightly less.

In use I could usually manage a little over 2 days out of a 21700, vaping at around 30W on a 0.5Ω coil.

Pushing it up the maximum, I got about a days worth of vaping.

Pros

  • Classic, high class, design
  • DNA 75C Board
  • Great build quality
  • 21700

Cons

  • micro USB Connection
  • Slightly scratchy battery cap
  • 510 could be centred better
  • Automatic lock after 1 minute

Final Review Verdict

Honestly, I have had to struggled to find anything wrong with this.

My only major complaint has been the rather irritating timeout where the mod locks almost soon as it goes to sleep. However this is something that can easily be fixed by spending 5 minutes at a computer.

If ZQ were to change this one thing in the theme before sending them out, it would be an almost perfect mod!

My others niggles are incredibly minor. But I think it’s only fair that I report them. The micro USB connection is also not the fault of ZQ, but rather the board they are using.

As I said at the top of the review, single battery box mods have fallen a little out of favour recently. And ZQ have definitely hit the ground running with one of the nicest I’ve tested.

The Dovpo Odin Mini review and this is a collaborative force with not one but two icons of the vaping world.

First we have Vaperz Cloud, and they’re well known for the likes of the Asgard RDA and the popular Trilogy RTA.

Dovpo Odin Mini Handcheck

Then we have the Aussie You tube reviewer and multi Ecigclick Award winner the Vaping Bogan, and he’s well known for his constant use of the “C” word among other expletives.

Also, and in conjunction with Dovpo, he’s responsible for the incredibly popular Blotto and Blotto Mini RTA.

Dovpo has been involved with the vaping industry since 2006 with a keen devotion to developing electronic cigarettes for their user base.

Sound like a match made in heaven? Let’s find out with this review.

What Can We Expect From The Dovpo Odin Mini?

Pretty much anything and everything. Why do I say that?

At the heart of this device lies the now infamous EVOLV DNA board.

Dovpo Odin Mini Boxed

E-scribe software offers the user the ability to change just about everything in terms of display, menu screens and button functions. So expect to be able to fully personalize the device to your hearts content.

Just as long as you don’t mind attaching the device to a PC.

In the past the board has appeared in various forms including the DNA 60 for lower powered devices. The DNA 250 and DNA 250C especially can be classed as the bigger brother to the Dovpo Odin Mini.

Whereas the dual battery DNA 250 is able to pump out up to 250W, ideal for low builds and hot vapes on an RDA, the Dovpo Odin Mini is much more suited to sub ohm tanks and RTA’s utilizing a single coil.

Featuring a maximum output of 75W the Dovpo Odin Mini has effectively been shrunk down to half the size of its older brothers, it still retains all the features of the DNA board, in full colour.

  • Odin DNA75c box mod
  • Pack of replacement battery wraps (various colours)
  • Micro USB cable
  • Battery warning card
  • User Manual

This is one of a very few reviews that I can honestly say a user manual is pointless. Why?

On the one hand half of the manual is made up of graphs that appear meaningless to anyone other than those already wrapped up in the power of E scribe software.

The rest is dedicated to error messages, how to insert the battery as well as a reminder not to use the product “in a sexual manner“. Okay! ’nuff said lol!

Design and Build Quality

The Dovpo Odin Mini is really designed to be used with either a 21700 or 20700 external battery.

It does come complete with an adaptor for an 18650, just don’t expect to get as much life when using one.

I tested primarily using a Molicel INR 21700 and we’ll get into battery life later. I also used an 18650 battery with the adaptor and in neither case did I notice any battery rattle. Great stuff!

Going Straight To The Top

The gold plated spring loaded 510 pin has a lot of throw and I was very pleased to see it bang centre of the mod.

It looks like it will be able to accommodate tanks sizes of up to 28mm sitting flush.

Dovpo Odin Mini springloaded 510 connector

One very cool feature not seen on many mods are the curved sides that appear on the rear. The reason I find them cool is because they allow you to easily adjust the bottom airflow on some of the more trickier tanks out there.

Very nice touch!

Dovpo Odin Mini the Sides

The same number of venting ports have been carried across from the much larger Dovpo Odin 250C. I don’t see that as an issue, you can never have enough venting especially with larger capacity, larger sized batteries.

From an aesthetic viewpoint, Dovpo has got it covered by supplying more than enough battery wraps to match the colour of your preferred tank, RTA or RDA.

Dovpo Odin Mini battery venting
I’m digging the brushed black, almost wood grain effect of the mod, and the laser etched logo at the base is flawless.

The Dovpo Odin Mini is also available in brushed red, gunmetal and silver.

Bottoms Up!

I was dreading the fact that the Dovpo Odin Mini features a bottom hinged door.

My general experiences of them are not, shall we say, desirable.

This one does feel a little flimsy if I’m honest and there is a little side to side play when released.

Dovpo Odin Mini battery door opened

The slide and catch feature certainly works effectively enough but it’s a case of whether it’ll stand the test of time.

I slammed the bottom against my palm, down on harder surfaces with no issues. Rock solid. I’ll report back in a few months time if indeed I do find any issues.

Full Frontal, Dick’eads..

It’s the EVOLV industry standard with the location of their onboard button layout.

Up and down menu navigation with a select option sandwiched between the two.

As much as you tinker with the onscreen display, you’re not getting away without a permanent reminder of that beer loving Aussie, as his logo has been etched into the fire button.

From a personal standpoint there’s enough branding elsewhere and on the bottom of the mod but it is what it is. Just as well I kind of dig Bogan’s skull logo.

Dovpo Odin Mini front view

The fire button is very responsive during use. I did have a minor gripe with the menu and select buttons, however.

The lower menu button was fine but the select and upper menu buttons sounded distinctly hollow when pressed, even with a battery inserted. It kind of made them feel a little cheap – you just knew there had to be a Negative Neil lurking! Lol!

No USB Type C here unfortunately but that seems to be standard with the DNA chip at the time of writing. Please do try to use an external charger.

The USB port has a dedicated purpose when hooking up with E Scribe.

Display Now Awesome (DNA)

In case you were unaware the C doesn’t stand for one of Vaping Bogan’s oft used words but the display on the Dovpo Odin Mini – and it’s just as colourful!

The 0.96in full colour TFT screen really does sparkle and replicates perfectly anything you may decide to bring across from the E scribe software.

colour display

Under the factory default setting the screen will time out after 30 seconds of inactivity. One cool factor is the mod will actually switch itself off too, so preserving battery life.

I’m new to the EVOLV DNA boards and had trouble finding the button sequence to manually switch the device on or off. Interesting fact – you don’t!

As well as it auto powering down, a single press of any button will revive it.

How Does The Dovpo Odin Mini Perform?

Following on from the previous comment, I tested the device’s auto shut down ability.

I left the battery installed overnight with an onscreen reading of 68 percent. The following morning it was reading the same., so no parasitic drain and no complaints from me!

How To Describe E scribe

There’s not enough space in this review to go over every feature that the E Scribe software has. The EVOLV website has an area dedicated to tutorials.

It’s certainly worth checking out from the get go but let me share a few experiences.

  • The first thing to do is connect the Dovpo Odin Mini to your PC via the included USB cable. The PC will detect the device and install the appropriate drivers to allow communication back and forth.
  • Next, visit the EVOLV website and and download the E scribe software suite. Choose the one applicable to your region.
  • Finally install the downloaded file and open from the shortcut created on the desktop. Welcome to the wonderful and completely open world of Escribe!

That’s the hard work out of the way. From here you are presented with multiple screens, tabs and options. All designed to adjust the functionality of the DNA 75c board.

By way of an introduction, “Theme Park” is installed with the software. With a few clicks you can have someone else’s set up installed to your device, it’s good to share!

I managed to “brick” the MOD during the first few dabbles! So I was relieved to find a factory reset option within the suite.

So again, I cannot underplay the relevance of watching a few tutorials if tinkering is your thing too. Do as I say, never as I do! Lol.

NB: Remember to save your changes and ensure they are downloaded to the device before removing the USB cable.

Dovpo Odin Mini Performance

The Dovpo Odin Mini hits like a train. There’s no getting around that fact. I never experienced any difference in performance even as the battery drained down to around ten percent charge.

Flavour and cloud production held out to the very last.

It just kept working to an extremely efficient standard. Although I’m a relative stranger to 21700 batteries it did feel like I was operating a dual battery device.

The same clout was there – in fact there was very little difference even using a trusty 18650.

One thing that struck me above all else was the differences experienced with output. Stepping up in single watt increments proved very noticeable. I haven’t witnessed that on any other mod I’ve owned.

This really does allow you to dial into your sweet spot. Using the replay mode goes one step further by allowing you to maintain the same vape. Every time! Effectively recording your most flavoursome exhale.

However, this is only available to temperature sensing coils such as stainless steel.

Lock Screen Personalisation
I had fun messing around with custom wallpapers and font colours.

Dovpo Odin Mini Battery Performance

The test was carried out using 2.5mm dual fused Clapton coils running between 40-50W with both an RTA and an RDA.

I managed six hours continuous use from the 18650 battery, and this was extended to nine and a half using the larger 21700.

At no time was there any warmth from the cell itself, testament to the onboard battery monitoring as well as those generous venting ports.

Pros

  • Incredibly efficient battery monitoring
  • Lightweight and ergonomically designed
  • Reassuring battery venting on either side
  • Easy to adjust the most awkward of bottom airflow control rings
  • Amazing full colour TFT screen display
  • Menu functions are easy to navigate
  • Fully customizable interface with EVOLV E Scribe suite

Cons

  • Two of the buttons feel tacky and sound hollow when pressed
  • E Scribe software may be overwhelming to some

Dovpo Odin Mini Review Summary

It’s crazy to think the board has been around for six years. It began life as the DNA40 which was the first chip to ever feature temperature control. Since then it has gained an incredibly huge army of fans.

I have to give credit to the design and build quality of the Dovpo Odin Mini. Despite housing a larger battery it still feels quite light in the hand.

It’s also incredibly comfortable to hold. I’ve not been able to put it down and will go as far as to say it’s better than my beloved SX Mini SL Class in terms of ergonomics.

Dovpo Odin Mini with onscreen live voltage reading
I used the E Scribe suite to include an onscreen voltage reading.

Operating the menu screen soon becomes second nature. They’re not as convoluted as I was expecting, and I particularly liked the diagnostics screen, bringing out the true geek in me! Lol.

As much as the E Scribe and Theme Park software are alluring there’s no reason not to use the Dovpo Odin Mini right out of the box.

The factory defaults are a plain and simple way of introducing yourself to what is without doubt a very impressive device.

It’s not going to be for everyone having a maximum output of 75W.

What it does do though is cater for the ever growing number of single coil builders out there, those that like to run at a more conservative 40-60W for example.

An ideal companion for those that enjoy MTL vaping at lower wattage.

It will appeal to those that use sub ohm tanks favouring a cooler vape and not too interested in blowing huge O rings out into the ether.

Dovpo Odin Mini Final Review Verdict

The Dovpo Odin Mini has now become my go to MOD of choice.

The higher capacity 21700 seems to match the power of a dual battery mod in a much slimmer and easier to handle format. Unlike many of those mods it never feels cumbersome in the hand, and I put that down to awesome design quality.

Variant RDA
Matchy Matchy with the Dovpo Variant RDA

The aluminium alloy body looks strong and robust enough to take more than a few knocks.

I’m more than happy to see plenty of battery venting. There are no sharp edges and take nothing away from the overall appearance, I put that down to awesome build quality.

Sound like I’m gushing? Yup – I am!

I’m in love with the full colour TFT screen that offers bright and vibrant reproductions of anything transferred over from the E Scribe software. The fonts are clear and crisp with button and navigation menus a joy to use.

In closing, it’s that damn battery efficiency and the power capabilities, even for a 75W device it’s quite incredible.

It may be half the size of it’s older brothers but there’s certainly nothing half hearted about the Dovpo Odin Mini.

The Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c mod review, and the ‘rebirth’ of an all time classic box mod.

Its fair to say when it comes to Lost Vape, I tend to think of a few different devices.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c reviewThe first that comes to mind is the Orion Pod System range, such as the recently released Q Ultra and the Orion Plus – all of the line has had slight changes through their history.

But the Orion really was a bit of a game changer, especially with its unique style.

The next thing that comes to mind is their use of the Evolv DNA chipsets. There aren’t many devices that are released, that a year or two years later, are still being sold for their original price.

But for some reason, Lost Vape with use of the DNA chip’s seem to hold their price extremely well.

The Lost Vape Drone DNA250C, along with the Paranormal DNA166/DNA75c/DNA250C their most notable.

All made from high quality materials still sell for over the £100 mark across the internet.

So after spending pretty much 18 months mainly focusing on their Orion range, Lost Vape has gone back to take a look at a new Dual 18650 DNA250C device and what they have come out with, is the Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c

Legendary Reborn‘ is how they put it.

And at a glance you can see its similarities to the Paranormal DNA250c that was released in early 2018.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c boxThe Centaurus DNA250c comes in a massive amount of styles, including 7777 unique stabwood effects, it has the DNA250c chip inside and I’m really pleased to be able to try out a device that on paper, speaks nothing but good things.

But what is it like really?

Lets crack on and try out the Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c Mod

What Can We Expect From The Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250C Mod?

The Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c is the successor to the Paranormal, meaning its expected to be high quality with premium materials and of course the Evolv DNA250c Chip, which obviously makes this not your every day mod.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250cIts style and shape are very similar to the Paranormal on first impressions and so as Lost Vape state themselves, this is looking to be pretty much a ‘Reborn’ version of the Paranormal.

The DNA line of chips has slowly evolved over time, and includes some excellent features which I will hopefully explain within this review.

The standout features are firstly its accuracy with regards to resistance, current, wattage and temperatures, along with some clever profiles such as Replay that allow you to set the device to replicate the exact same vape experience every time.

The Centaurus also has the ability to charge your phone or other device which they call ‘On-The-Go USB’ thanks to the USB adaptor included in the box.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c colours

The Stabwood Series is limited to a unique total of 7777no units, I’ve no information on if there is an additional cost for this colour style, however the Limited Series does come with a unique serial number card and of course the stabilised wood finish.

Design and Build Quality

I’ve been sent the ‘SS/Cowhide-Tactile Carbon Fibre version of the Centaurus, it has 2 carbon fibre panels on either side which are definitely real carbon fibre.

I’ve no idea of the grade or any of that kind of technical information, but you can really see the weave in the carbon and you can feel the texture of it across your fingers.

This style also has a nice cowhide style leather that is a rich brown/red and feels high quality.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c colour choice

The Centaurus is predominantly made from stainless steel, it has a brushed yet shiny look and size wise, it reminds me of the Geekvape Aegis Legend.

In fact standing next to each other, the Centaurus and the Legend are almost identical in size, width and depth.

Even the back ends of both devices feature a soft leathery section…Hmmm

The Centaurus isn’t the largest of devices, which for some may cause a few problems, the 510 connection up top is ever so slightly raised on its base, which bothers me a little bit as your tank or RDA doesn’t sit completely flush.

Good luck fitting anything over 25mm in diameter, as it will overhang. Its a shame because it just means the Centaurus lacks versatility. But that lack in versatility doesn’t take away from its quality which on the whole, is very very good.

In The Hand

Considering the Centaurus is made from Stainless Steel, its weighty, but not a heavy device to hold.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c 510

Thanks to the smooth squidgy leather section, the Centaurus is nice and comfortable to hold. Its an ideal size and certainly not too big, I think they’ve done a nice job size wise for a dual 18650 device.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c in hand

The Centaurus is nice to hold either way round, as a finger firing device, leaving the soft leather section nestled within the Thenar Web-space (That’s the skin between your thumb and index finger)

Firing with your thumb is probably my preferred way, as all your fingers wrap comfortably around the Leather section of the Centaurus.

review of the Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c

A nice comfortable device to hold and use.

This is where the small details come into play, especially considering its looked at, as a ‘Reborn‘ version of the Paranormal.

They’ve added an inverted groove to either side of the front of the device, meaning no matter which way you hold the device, your hand/fingers aren’t pressing around a sharp corner which definitely makes this device more comfortable.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c base

Lost Vape has also smoothed out some of the other more harsh edges in comparison to the Paranormal, and made a huge improvement to the battery door which now includes a very nice latch that locks into place beautifully.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c Display

If you’re familiar with the DNA250c or DNa75c, there is nothing new to see here.

Lost Vape didn’t even go to the extent of adding their own custom theme, it’s just the default Evolv screen, and that carries on to the other menu pages and profiles.

If you’re not familiar with the DNA chip and how they operated, here are the basics.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c Basic Operation

All DNA Colour screens come with 3, yes 3 buttons. Simply put, these are Up, Select and Down from top to bottom.

When you first put your batteries into the Centaurus, you’ll be greeted with what we’ll call the ‘Lock Screen’.
Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c buttons

Like most devices, it’ll show the usual Battery Level, Coil resistance etc, but you cant vape it just yet, nope.

One thing you’ll discover with any DNA device is that you cant switch it off as such, only lock it, which eventually will put it to sleep – that might be a bit annoying to some of you?

Five clicks of the fire button and you enter the main page, what they call the ‘Profile’ page – now you can start vaping.

DNAc menu

At first you’ll get a page asking if you’re using a new coil, which will display the resistance, and if you’re happy, click yes.

Pressing the Up or down buttons will highlight the different options, and which ever one you want to adjust, simply click the adjust buttons and you’re off.

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c Main Menu

Within the main menu is a plethora of options:

Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c menu options

Atomizer

Anything to do with your tank or dripper will be stated in here, right down to the temperature.

You can also adjust the punch from 0-11 which will give you a boost of power at the initial start of your vape to help with coil ramp-up times.

Puff Info

If you’re into fancy graphs and statistics, Puff Info will be right up your street. You can browse through your vaping history to see the length of each of your previous vapes, the wattage it reached and voltage information.

Diagnostics

A load of information is listed on this page which will state almost everything you need to know about the device, the RTA/RDA/Tank along with the temperature of the Chipset and USB voltage.

Loads of information for those who like that kind of thing.

System

In System you can make the necessary changes to the brightness of the display, the time and date and which unit the device will measure in.

How Does The Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c Perform?

During the past 10 days using the Centaurus, I’ve used a number of different devices from hard hitting RDA’s, to a 22mm MTL RTA.

Apart from the raised 510 connector, everything sits nicely on the device as long as you don’t go over 25mm.

The power output from the Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c is excellent and with the various tweaks that can be made firstly on the device, and also through the Escibe Software, you can tailor your experience just how you like it.

in hand

The replay mode is interesting, but does work legitimately. Allowing the ‘Perfect Puff’ every time, it takes a little while to get used to but is a clever function.

Using the device in temperature control mode, I’ve found the DNA chipset is excellent and is known for its accuracy and performance.

battery door

Its almost fair to say the DNA boards set the standard for being extremely accurate, especially in Temperature Control Mode.

For the majority of my time using the Centaurus, apart from a few changes to the profiles in Escribe, I’ve stuck mostly to wattage and I’ve enjoyed it very much indeed.

The Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c Special Features

So like any other device which features the DNA250c chip, there are a few special features that help overcome the thoughts of paying the extra price.

On The Go USB

Included in the box is a Female USB to Micro USB adaptor which allows you to plug one end into the Centaurus, your phones charging cable into the other end, and charge your phone using your two 18650 batteries.

charger

According to my clever USB testing device, it pumps out 1.5 Amps of charging power, which is respectable from device to device so it will actually do a good job of charging your phone.

Replay Mode

I’m going to cheat a little here because I cant find a better way to exactly describe how Replay mode works, so thank you to whoever wrote the following…

Replay is the most advanced vaping technology developed by Evolve. Replay is intended to capture the flavor and satisfaction of the ”perfect puff”, and provide the same level of performance and consistency on all subsequent puffs. The replay will also prevent the device from getting dry hits.
Is Replay same as Temperature Control mode?
The answer is no.
Temperature Control(TC Mode) is intended to maintain safety from overheating. Replay is more complicated than that, and the point of replay is to maintain flavor.
Firstly ,set the device to a desired power level and operate it normally. Once a satisfying puff is achieved, activate the mode to save and replay the selected puff.

Escribe Software

How many of you have felt your mod needs an update or something needs rebooting?

I’ve certainly been there, and you have to trawl through the manufacturers website, trying to figure out how to download the driver that will update your device, then your device wont connect to your computer and when you finally get it connected, the software doesn’t work.

Well with the Escribe Software from Evolv, it removes all of those painful issues.

Firstly its downloadable from the Evolv DNa website, which includes a great forum for answering questions.

Once downloaded, your device will connect almost instantly once plugged in.

box mod

And that when you open more options to your device than you would believe. You can fully customise the display, the menus and even the background.

There are a lot of advanced options which I would recommend you leave alone, but for basic customization, the Escribe software is fairly well laid out and quite user friendly.

There are plenty of information and tutorials out there on how to use the Escribe software, including a few of my own 😉

Pros

  • Extremely High Quality Device
  • DNA Chipset always a Pro from me
  • Comfortable to hold
  • Solid feeling battery door
  • A high performer
  • Faultless Temp Control Mode

Cons

  • Raised 510 base
  • Limited to 25mm Atomiser
  • Expensive to purchase
  • Menu’s may be a little tricky for some.
  • Isn’t much of an upgrade from the Paranormal DNA250c

Final Review Verdict

If you own the Paranoral DNA25c, I don’t really think you are going to notice much of an improvement apart from the minor tweaks – but that’s not to say that overall this isn’t an excellent device.

The build quality really is top notch. Certainly a premium device and in the colour combo I have, is also kind of stylish, like a retro looking wallet with the modern twist thanks to the Carbon Fibre.

logo

I’m a fan of the DNA chip-set, especially the colour versions. They are accurate, powerful and smart and without them, you would loose a number of minor features, which I doubt I would miss if they weren’t there, but I also quite like those particular features, especially the use of the Escribe software.

Its a shame the Lost Vape Centaurus DNA250c can only take an atomizer up to 25mm before any overhang, but fortunately most mainstream tanks and RDA’s are usually a maximum of 25mm anyway.

The only real thing that bothers me, is the 510 plate on the top of the device which is slightly raised.

If you use a 22mm RTA, it looks absolutely fine, but anything over 22mm and you can see the gap. A little annoying if you like a flat looking atomizer on your device.

Have you bought or considering buying the Lostvape Centaurus Mod?

Are DNA chips worth their bumped up price tag?

The Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c review, and this stunning single 18650 mod is a collaboration with Signature Tips.

China based Dovpo might be a relatively new company on the vape scene, but has certainly made a massive impact with the Topside series of squonk mods including the Topside Lite which Neil C absolutely loved.

mod

Most recently they’ve combined with EcigClick award winning YouTube reviewer – Sam aka the Vaping Bogan with the awesome Odin mod and of course the Bloto RTA.

Meanwhile, and as the name suggests, UK based Signature Tips began life making high quality bespoke drip tips. They have now branched out to include designing and manufacturing high end squonk mods with, some might say, wallet busting price tags.

The Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c, whilst currently priced around the £125 mark is, it’s fair to say, an entry point for some vapers into the more affordable higher end of the mod market.

As to if it stands up to the price tag we shall of course find out.

What Can We Expect From the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c?

As you can see this is powered by the DNA75c chip – some would say one of the very best out there – however, this mod doesn’t have the Replay mode.

You can find out more about the DNA chip, what it does and how to manage your settings in our superb guide: Evolv DNA75 and DNA200 Mods Guide – Plus Recommended DNA Mods – a great starting point for newcomers to the Evolv software.

Design wise, it’s a follow on from the hugely popular Signature Tips squonk mods – which are designed to be ergonomic – as to if that’s the case we shall of course find out.

As we can see it’s powered by the DNA75c chipset which when hooked up to the Evolv software allows you to change the settings to your hearts content.

It takes a single 18650 battery with a max power of 75w [obviously!] and has a full temperature control suite.

mono-mod-colours

We’ll get into the design a little later, but the mod features a 0.97″ TFT color screen, is made from high grade aluminum and there’s a choice of colours: black – red – blue and green.

OK, the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c mod was sent to me free of charge for the purpose of this review direct from Dovpo – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies.

OK and given Mono can be the abbreviation of an illness known as the ‘kissing disease‘ [quite apt these days lol] let’s see if this one has got me puckering up my vaping lips in delight…

Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c – Key Features

We’ve already mentioned this is powered by the DNA75c chip and with that on board you can be sure of a quality vape.

Hook this up to the Evolv / Escribe software and you can tinker away to your hearts delight to get the settings and indeed look you want – see our guide above for more info.

dovpo mono evolv escribe
hooked up to Evolv / Escribe Software

Incidentally on connecting to the software there was a DNA75c update I’d missed 🙂

We can also expect this one to be comfortable in the hand – those curved cut-outs are meant to be ergonomic and fit your fingers – and we’ll of course see if that’s the case.

Without repeating myself, OK I’m repeating myself – the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c maxes out at 75w and yup there’s full temp control options.

Incidentally, this is a compact device and just a tad over 25mm wide at the top – I’ve found 24mm tanks and RBAs fit nicely and 25mm’s look OK too, any bigger and you’re into overhang.

Design and Build Quality

The signature Signature Tips design follows through from those first mech squonk mods with the finger grips giving it a badass almost knuckleduster look.

I love the design, and those finger cut-outs suit both left and right-handed vapers and really are extremely comfortable.

Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c review

There is a choice of colours as I’ve already mentioned. However as you can see, the mod remains black, whilst the colour includes the buttons and the front face and top.

Personally I’m glad I got the murdered out black version – is it just me or does that coloured outline dare I say, cheapen it a little?

*ducks*

Still, for those that like it, I’m sure you’ll find a Signature Tips drip tip to match and they are bloody gorgeous 😉

The screen is compact, but extremely clear and bright even straight out of the box. Obviously you can change pretty much everything once hooked up to the Evolv software, I left mine alone given I have a tendency to ‘break things’ lol.

screen

Build wise this is a beast!

Whilst it’s not too heavy, it is a solid weight in your hand.

Both doors come off and trust me those magnets are industrial strength – indeed it takes a fair bit of pressure to get them off and it’s a little tight in there so be careful not to force the battery in!

battery sledge

And take them off often you will as there’s no battery ribbon, meaning you need to push the battery out from the rear. No biggie, just a niggle 😉

Good to see those chunky peek insulators too – always good to have an extra layer of safety.

OK, so the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c looks great and is built to very high standards – so how does it vape?

How Does the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c Perform?

I’ll keep this short and sweet!

Straight out of the box and the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c performs like a charm – it’s that simple.

For a vaper that just wants to get up and vape, just pop in your battery – set the wattage or temp and bingo off you go.

Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c review and Reload RTA
with the Reload RTA

Easy – no fuss – no fiddling about – just use the middle select button to er select your settings and that’s really it!

One thing you might notice if this is the first time using a DNA chip is the accuracy of the temp and wattage.

In other words 75w really IS 75w – so maybe dial back a little initially to avoid a stronger vape you’ve been used to on other chips 😉

As you might expect from a single 18650 battery mod, the higher temp or wattage you vape at, the quicker your battery will drain.

Saying that, at 30w I was getting about 6 hours constant vaping whilst at 67w that reduced by half. So if you’re out and about [not that we are these lock down days] take a spare but stored safely in a box or battery condom.

So probably best to use with single coil RTAs and drippers or even a decent MTL tank or rebuildable.

During testing I’ve used the Kelpie RDA – the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA and the dual coil Reload RTA which really did suck the battery juice dry!

Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c review and Kelpie RDA
with the Kelpie RDA

Simply put, this mod is intuitive and dead simple to use but still plenty of bells and whistles to keep the advanced vapers happy.

Pros

  • DNA75c chip
  • Ergonomic
  • Solid build
  • Awesome design
  • Easy to use
  • Choice of colours
  • Affordable for such quality

Cons

  • No battery ribbon – a minor niggle!

Final Review Verdict

Without turning this into a gush-fest I think you can guess I love the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c mod!

As you can see from the single – mono – Con, I really can’t find fault with it.

The chipset is one of the best out there, the design is as comfortable as it is badass and the build quality is of the highest standards I’ve seen in the vape world.

An absolutely fantastic mod that has quickly become my go to – in fact I can’t put the bloody thing down!

Highly and I mean HIGHLY recommended and then some.

BTW – I shaved .2 points off the design purely because of the lack of a battery ribbon and those colours! Me nit-picking? Naw 😉

Incidentally we have the Clutch Mech review up and running.

So…

Are you using or planning to buy the Dovpo Mono SQ DNA75c?

The Jac Vapour Series B DNA75 25mm mod follows on from the previous Series B DNA75 which was a big hit. However, it’s fair to say the one tiny flaw was the size – fitting tanks upto 22mm – unless you liked huge overhangs!Sandstorm-dna75

So the release of the larger 25mm Series B DNA75 and the addition of a new ‘sandstorm’ finish had my ears pricking up – particularly as the original is a mod I’ve used every single day since I first received it – with the wear and tear to prove it!

What Can We Expect From The JAC VApour Series B DNA75?

The new version comes with the usual bunch of options on the website – I received the mod plus an 18650 battery and 30mls of Bryn’s Special Sauce e-liquid [lovely stuff!] – both of which come as standard – but please check the site!

OK given the only real thing that’s changed from the previous version is the size and finish this review may be a little shorter than most.

This was sent to me free of charge for the purpose of review direct from Scottish based Jac Vapour – thank you – and as always and despite using the company’s very early kits to finally quit smoking – my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Key Features

Obviously key here is the DNA chip which the vast majority of vapers say is the best on the market.

By hooking up with the Evolv software you can fine tune your vape to literally the unth degree.

Please checkout our detailed guide to all things DNA and Evolv HERE.

OK the predecessor to this latest release – the JACvapour Series B DNA75 came out at just 22mm which made it the smallest DNA device on the market at the time.

dna 75 compared
The 22mm and new 25mm

I did mention the size in my review of that one which meant only the smallest vape tanks, RDAs and RTAs could fit on top without any overhang.

So apart from the extra few mm and the new ‘sandstorm’ finish – there’s really not a lot more going on – so a shorter review than usual!

One other issue I had with the previous version was the battery door and in particular the magnets.

I have used the original every single day since it arrived – look at the scratches!

However within a couple of months the magnets had fallen off – they were easy enough to pop back in with a bit of super-glue – but still a bit of a niggle – especially as I now have a pronounced rattle – so I was very pleased to get this upgrade to review!

The new version has exactly the same battery compartment and door though it might just be the newness [I’ve had this one close to a month] but they do feel housed better and maybe even a little stronger.

The other new bit is the finish – marketed as ‘sandstorm’ it’s a clever word for ‘brushed’ and whilst the original had a rubberized body – the 25mm is metal has a nice feel to it and certainly not slippery.

Jacvapour describes the body as being made out of ‘premium quality materials’ over the ‘black rubber oil finish’ – it doesn’t feel rubbery at all but certainly not slippery.

Design and Build Quality

As I’ve mentioned above not a lot has changed with the shape and build of the original – it’s well manufactured and maybe a touch lighter.

The fire button and up and down bar [which is on a rocker switch] are black and plastic making a nice contrast on the stainless steel version I received.

I say it every time I review a JacVapour product but you really can’t fault the build or indeed the design – they make high quality and very nice looking stuff!

Design wise it’s a cross between a box mod and vape pen style and given the extra width there’s a kind of foot outlining the battery on the base that makes it a lot more stable when standing up than the former version!

If I’m honest this sandstorm finish wouldn’t be my go to colour – I really liked the rubberized body and the contrasting battery door on it’s baby brother – however it really has begun to grow on me – listen I tend to go for black mods so purely a subjective thing.

Incidentally I did try swapping the doors but couldn’t make them fit 😉

Jacvapour say this is aimed at the ‘executive’ end of the market – so sitting here barefoot in lounge pants and hoodie hardly makes me the target market lol.

So a good looking well-made mod – so how does it vape?

How Does the Jacvapour Series B DNA75 25mm Mod Perform?

OK like all DNA devices you can spend as long as you like fiddling with the settings – however it’s good to go straight out of the box in both temp and power mode.

Speaking of temp mod I popped a simple micro coil stainless steel build into my DigiFlavour Drop RDA and pulsed whilst the cotton was pretty dry.

As this is a DNA chip I expected the temp control to work perfectly which it did indeed – leaving only the slightest darker banding.

The original DNA 75w had a feather touch fire button – drove me nuts lol – however this one thankfully takes a bit of pressure to fire.

OK and once again as you’d expect from the onboard DNA chip performance wise this is sublime.

New users of any DNA may find the need to turn down the power a little to what they normally vape at because this is a true reading!

In other words I had my GeekVape Zeus RTA set at 53.7w on my go to mod the Livepor 160 and had to crank it down on the Series B DNA75 as it was just a tad too much for the build in there – trust me the mod I use is generally pretty spot on too!

As I’ve already said we could be here all day talking about the umpteen and then some settings you can fiddle with via the Evolv software – suffice it so say out of the box this performs like a charm.

What I Like

It’s only a couple of mm difference and a couple of design changes but it’s already become my go too MTL mod.

Obviously with the full range of 75w it will take 25mm sub ohm tanks etc easily but given its overall size and the amount of battery life I can get with mouth to lung – that’s how I use it.

dead rabbit dna 75
no overhang

Saying that I am now going to have to find a MTL tank that matches the brushed steel – sorry sandstorm finish – wonder if there will be a black version?

Look I don’t go into the Evolv software I’m a KISS kind of vaper – keep it simple stupid – so all the bells and whistles aren’t for me.

But straight out of the box it works perfectly well and this is indeed as solid as a device you’re ever likely to buy.

Vaping purists will love the sheer amount of tinkering they can do – whilst the rest of us have a very nice well performing – good looking mod on their hands.

dna75 innokin zenith
with the new Innokin Zenith tank on board

What I Don’t Like

Not a lot – but I do miss the contrasting door on the version I received – the silver one I received is a little dare I say plain – colour wise that is!

The previous version really did stand out from the crowd with the contrast – but if that’s the only fault I can find then well done JacVapour…again!

Final Review Verdict

The Jacvapour Series B DNA75 25mm is another top quality vape mod and one that comes highly recommended.

Pros

  • DNA chip
  • 25mm atties fit nicely
  • Stronger magnets?
  • Nice design
  • Sturdy and stable!
  • Compact

Cons

  • None I can find!

Footnote: a few days after this review went live my device simply stopped working.

I tried everything including going into the Evolv software.

I contacted JacVapour and despite this being a review sample and therefore not a paid for model – they immediately told me they would ship out a replacement – which arrived the very next morning.

As I’ve stated many times before it was a JacVapour kit that finally got me off smoking and one of the reasons I chose them at the time was their reputation for superb customer service.

I returned the device and this is the reply I received from the Matt Brown from JacVapour after just a couple of days checking it:

Just to confirm that we received the unit back with us this morning and our engineers have now taken a look.

The issue with the battery compartment feeling tighter seems to be down to an issue with one of the magnets having come loose. Reseating this has resolved that issue.

We’ve also been able to confirm the device failure. After taking it apart and examining the PCB, there’s doesn’t seem to be anything physically wrong there (such as bad soldering etc).

What my engineer did report though is that there was a bit of e-liquid residue on the PCB, which may have happened if there had been a leak from the tank. It’s certainly possible that this is what has caused the fault.

Whilst I can’t remember any leakage during reviewing or use – I am once again impressed with the customer service from JacVapour as both a reviewer and customer.

I’m happy to report my new device is next to me right now and working perfectly.

best dna vape mods and evolv guide

Evolv are one of the largest chip manufacturers on planet when it comes to vaping equipment.

Many mods are powered by an Evolv chip or a version of it, the most popular being the DNA series.

A huge number of mods from budget range to high end are powered by the DNA30 or DNA40 chip.

Different Evolv DNA Chips

More recently Evolv have made huge waves within the industry with their DNA75/DNA200 chips as well as the recent release of the DNA75C colour screen.

Alongside the DNA60 and DNA250 chips, they are intended to replace the now discontinued DNA30 and DNA40 chips, which are slowly being phased out.

Here we are taking a look at the DNA75 and DNA200 chips, how they perform, how to use it, and the best DNA75 / DNA200/250 mods available today.

What Is The Evolv DNA75 / DNA200 Chip?

eVolv DNA 200 and DNA75 chipsThe DNA200 is one of the most powerful chips available to date. The DNA75 is virtually the same chip, just optimized for lower wattage usage.

It also features a programmable LED light for the power button, which does look cool!

The DNA75 tends to use a single 18650, dual 18650 or a single 26650 battery.

Most DNA200 vape mods are powered by Lipo batteries or three 18650 batteries in order to reach their full potential. There are dual 18650 DNA200 mods but these are limited to 133W.

Both offer you a huge amount of customisation options through the eScribe software, downloadable from the Evolv website onto your Windows PC.

The official tagline from Evolv on the DNA75 chip states-

The DNA 75 is a power regulated digital switch-mode DC-DC converter for personal vaporizers.

It features Evolv’s patented Wattage Control, Patent Pending Temperature Protection, Preheat, Digital User Controls, OLED Screen, Onboard Buttons and Synchronous Rectification for maximum battery life and minimal heat generation.

The DNA 75 runs from a single cell lithium polymer battery. The USB port and Evolv’s EScribe software can be used to monitor and customize the user experience. The DNA 75 is vaping down to a science.

eScribe and Using The DNA75/DNA200 Chip

How to use evolv escribeThe DNA75 and DNA200 chips are virtually identical and are used in much the same way.

Initial usage of a mod with a DNA75 chip couldn’t be easier.

  • Hit the power button to wake your device up
  • 5 clicks of the power button will lock and unlock the device.
  • Up and down buttons will change wattage and temperature limit settings
  • The power button will fire your atomiser.
  • Whilst it is locked, holding the up and down buttons for 5 seconds will put it into stealth mode which dims the screen.
  • Holding the up and down buttons for 2 seconds will lock in your current power setting so that it can’t be accidentally changed.

Both DNA chips automatically read resistance accurately. However, if you would like to lock in the resistance, hold down the fire and up buttons.

The screen on a DNA device will be the same size regardless, and it’s a large OLED screen, you can customise the information displayed on the screen through eScribe.

By default, wattage/temperature, battery level, voltage output and resistance are displayed.

When you connect a new atomizer, the DNA chip will ask if it is a new coil or the one you used previously, and it will automatically read the resistance for you.

You can save 8 of your favourite preset settings through eScribe, and these can be accessed by power locking the device then double clicking the up or down button to scroll through them.

eScribe is where the real fun is with the DNA chips.

It is by no means mandatory, you can use a device with a DNA chip in it out of the box without using eScribe, but by using eScribe you can customise your device.

You do need a Windows PC, and the latest eScribe software from the official Evolv website. Not great for MAC users but at the time of writing that’s how it is!

By connecting your device to your PC with a compatible USB cable, pretty much anything you can think of can be configured here.

From screen graphics, to what information is displayed on the screen, the optimum battery settings, and a whole host of information available on how your device is performing.

You can also customise the pre-heat of your device, which provides a selected power boost in temperature control mode, and even customise 8 different profiles to pre-load onto your device and access quickly on the move.

By entering the coefficient information for a particular temperature control wire, you can ensure your DNA mod performs optimally well with pretty much any TC wire!

For full in depth instructions take a look at the Escribe User Manual here

Evolv also have the Escribe Training Simulator that provides a step by step ‘how to’. That can be found hereevolv esribe training course

Wismec Reuleaux DNA250

Possibly the most well known DNA device on the market thanks to it’s unique form factor.

The Wismec Reuleaux DNA250 is not only one of the most unique looking DNA250 devices, it also has some of the longest battery life too as well.

The design isn’t just there for aesthetic purposes, this device is really comfortable to hold too!

  • Designed by Jaybo in conjunction with Wismec

HCigar VT250

The Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C mod is an update to the Paranormal DNA250 mod that was released some time ago. The big difference in the latest version is the DNA250C chip with the Replay feature.

For those looking to buy the Paranormal, you might be finding it a struggle as is the way with LV mods, they don’t make enough and then stop making them.

If that’s the case check out our Lost Vape Centaurus review. This is the update and (at the time of writing) easier to get hold of.paranormal dna250c lost vape

This chip is, it’s fair to say, one of the most anticipated releases ever to hit vaping and has been the talk of the vape world since the first rumours surfaced – could this really simplify temperature control vaping?

Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C

In this review we’ll look at the mod itself and go into more detail on what exactly the new Replay function is all about.

No one can explain that better than the designers and here’s what they say:

Replay is a new feature introduced on the DNA 250C. Replay is intended to capture the flavour and satisfaction of the “perfect puff” and provide the same level of performance and consistency on all subsequent puffs.

The use of Nickel, Stainless, Titanium, or other material that increases in resistance when heated is required.

In addition, Replay will also prevent dry hits when used with wattage control.

OK all sounds simple enough and as the least technical reviewer among us lets see if this is indeed the temp control game changer many say it is and this makes it one of the best vape mods available!

The device was sent to me for the purpose of this review direct from Lost Vape – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Incidentally the company helpfully added the Modefined Lyra sub ohm tank as it had a stainless steel coil installed in case I didn’t anything TC compatible.

I won’t be doing a review on that as it came un-boxed – however I actually rather enjoyed this one despite being stock coils 😉

OK let’s see how the RR…RR…R…Replay works.

Inside the Box

As you might expect from Lost Vape the presentation is indeed first rate coming in a solid hinged box and inside you’ll find:

  • 1 x Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C Device
  • 1 x USB Charging Cable
  • 1 x Paranormal DNA 250C Gift Box
  • 1 x Paranormal DNA 250C User Manual

Paranormal DNA250C Specs

DNA250C Replay and Key Features

OK given the actual mod is the same as the Lost Vape Paranormal released recently it’s the Replay feature that’s the unique selling point here.

So what exactly is it?

replay mode

In effect it allows you, the vaper, to find then save and Replay your perfect puff when using temp control compatible coils – including stock coils.

The new chip will also pick up a mix of metals in the coil – the full list is:

  • nickel 200, SS, Titanium individually
  • combinations of temp-sensing coils (Ti wrap with SS)
  • combinations of temp-sensing & non-sensing coils (eg. Kanthal wrap with Ti)

paranormal dna250c replay

OK despite the vast majority of advanced vapers including most of the big name reviewers not bothering with temperature control – in effect Replay simplifies the whole process making it accessible to all.

So what’s so special about temperature control?

Two main things – safety and flavour.

The safety side comes from the chip able to pick up a dry coil and shutting down to prevent dry hits and burning.

If you’re using TC in a stock coil and so long as you are within the right power settings for that particular coil you’re less likely to burn it out so increasing longevity a little.

As to TC improving flavour – what this means is by adjusting the temp rather than just the wattage technically you should find that sweet spot for the particular e-liquid you’re using.

I mean how many times have you tried a juice at say 50w and it’s a bit muted and at 60w it’s too much?

By fine tuning the temperature the experts say you can improve the flavour of your vape dramatically.

Until the Replay mode came along this meant quite a bit of tinkering within the menu system – which trust me on some devices can be a pain.

With Replay you simply pump the power up or down until you find the perfect setting – hit that button and it’s locked in!

Out Of the Box DNA250C and Replay Quick Start Guide

All of the device settings and menu style can be changed by using the Evolv/Escribe Software.

For more information check out our Evolve/Escribe/DNA guide.

And for once do read the user manual it’s an easy read and very informative!

paranormal dna250c battery sledge

OK as the title says this is a quick start guide as the device comes straight out of the box:

  • X2 18650 batteries into base
  • X5 clicks on
  • Use middle menu button to select features
  • Up and down button to scroll through options

How To Use the Replay Feature On The Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C

Replay will work in either temperature protection or wattage mode with compatible coil:

  • Select Replay profile on the device. Set the device to the desired power and boost level and operate it normally
  • Once you find the perfect puff – activate the feature to save the settings
  • The device will auto replay the puff every time when it is fired
  • Disable Replay to resume normal operation or find a new puff to save
  • The coil is not compatible if Replay cannot be enabled.

It really is as simple as that and with a few go’s you’ll be an expert 😉

Key Features

OK we’ve pretty much covered the main points with the Paranormal DNA250C but let’s touch on a couple of others.

First off you can of course use the device with any coil in simple power mode.

The Boost feature works extremely well and is ideal to add a bit more oomph to those larger coils that need a bit more power to get them glowing on the first fire.

watt boost

The device can also be used as an emergency power bank which works OK but obviously drains your batteries quite quickly so definitely only use if it is indeed an emergency situation!

As well as the board/display being customizable you can on some models switch out the panels – using the supplied sucker tool – to change the overall look of the device.

sucker

I say some as whilst there’s indeed a large choice of colour/design combos available only a certain few have this option so check before purchasing!

OK speaking of design…

Design and Build Quality

You’re either a lover of the Lost Vape look or you’re not it’s as simple as that!

Personally I love the look of the Therion series indeed my go to daily mod is the Therion DNA75c BF squonk mod.

The Paranormal definitely has a love hate relationship with the vape community – personally I love it.

I was fortunate enough to receive the Gun Metal with Pearl Fish design that came out of the box with the wood paneling.

Lost Vape paranormal dna250c reviewThankfully [lol] Lost Vape has added carbon fibre panels and these are easily removed using the included ‘sucker’.

I have to say now it’s set up in that all black against the gun metal – design wise I love it – very classy indeed.

However that kind of amber come tortoise shell edging to the 510 pin is almost a bit too much…more on that in a moment.

tortoise shell

Build wise you really can’t fault this – it’s quality all the way – mostly.

The battery door is spring loaded and has a wonderful action to it with absolutely no rattle whatsoever.

It’s a solid built mod in the hand with just one tiny niggle – the replacement panels.

On mine the wood panels fit snugly with no movement – however the carbon fibre have a slight and I mean slight movement but enough to ‘click and move’ when first picked up.

This could be down to the magnets or I’m just unlucky because this is a retail ready version.

That aside I really do like the contoured and almost spongy texture of the front of the mod – it’s very comfortable in the hand.

OK so I think it looks great – feels great how does it vape?

How Does the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C Mod Perform?

As an out and out wattage device what can I say, other than just like all the other DNA chips I’ve used this one is as good.paranormal dna250c carbon fibre pearl fish

I don’t have any fancy machines to test if this is putting out say 55w – but based on experience and up against shall we say an inferior chip – you can tell the difference!

I used the boost feature a couple of times and again no issues whatsoever with a super-fast ramp up.

The Replay feature is an absolute doddle to use – after a few go’s – and I think I’ve eked another couple of flavour levels out of my go to e-liquid [Lemon Refresh by Chicken Shop].

However, on trying an e-liquid I feel is a little muted in taste I felt it jumped enough notches for me to notice.

One issue I do have is the 510 and specifically what I can get to sit flush.

Reload RTA not quite flush
Reload RTA not quite flush

I have tried most of the RDA’s and RTA’s I have – 22mm up to 25mm – and whilst there’s no overhang as such none of them sit absolutely flush due, I’m guessing, to that curved ridge around the front of the device maybe?

slight gap with bonza rda
teeny weeny gap with Vandy Vape Bonza RDA

That aside – look this is a Lost Vape device with one of the most respected/tested chips inside and that’s really all you need to know!

Pros

  • Replay feature
  • Boost
  • Evolv software
  • Good battery life
  • 200w
  • Very smart design
  • High quality build materials

Cons

  • Slight carbon fibre replacement panel movement
  • Not all atties sit flush

Final Review Verdict

As I said earlier the design of the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C mod is not to everyone’s liking – personally I think it’s both elegant and manly – something I fail at achieving lol.

It’s a shame Lost Vape and the team at DNA didn’t release a brand new mod to showcase the new chip and Replay feature but it is what it is and new devices are apparently incoming.

For those of us not into temperature control this is of course an easy as it gets introduction to TC and I’m pretty sure that whilst I’m not a convert per se I was impressed by the bump in flavour I’m getting.

And of course it goes without saying the removal of dry hits is a big bonus given even with RTAs whilst working I can forget to re-fill – it’s an age thing don’t mock lol.

Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250c size comparison
Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250c size comparison

So yes the Replay works and works very well indeed – TC purists might scoff but for us mere mortals it is a nice simple feature that can improve our vape experience and that can only be a good thing.

Now the million dollar question – would I go out and buy the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250c?

I actually love the design and like the fact you can switch effortlessly to Temperature Control and Power modes and have surprisingly enough even as a ‘no frills vapers’ found myself using Replay a lot.

It’s pricey but then you are paying for quality inside and out so yes I’d definitely pull the purchase trigger on this one.

This is a really early look preview. In fact this mod has no name yet. So I am calling it the Thinkvape DNA250C Triple Battery Mod. I didn’t think “Brian” would get across its appeal as much.

thinkvape dnac 250WAnyway this has not been released, is still being trialled and built so please excuse the lack of info – all I have is what Thinkvape have been sharing on their official Instagram page.

Thinkvape seem to be a popular brand especially with their DNA chip mods and they retail at good prices. They also have a non DNA chip mod just being released the Ruger 230.

thinkvape dna250cSo what do we know…

This will be using the latest DNA250-C colour chip. A few mods are using the 75W version of the DNA-C chip including the Lost Vape Mirage and the HCigar VT 75C. But I haven’t seen any with the 250W version.

The mod will need 3 batteries. Not sure if 18650 or the 21/20700 batteries.

dna250c thinkvape modThe styling is very similar to the Thinkvape Finder 250.

Thinkvape are asking people for colour suggestions too – so I don’t think the full range has been created yet.

Keep your eyes peeled for more info as it comes in!

Build Quality & Design

Epetite DNA60

If you’re familiar with the Lost Vape EPetite platform you will immediately recognise the familiar features of the latest incarnation of the EPetite device.

This new version now features Evolve’s latest DNA60 board, as opposed to the original DNA40, and is still powered by a single 18650 battery which keeps this as a nice small vape mod..

The main body of the Epetite is manufactured from high-quality aluminium and retains pretty much all of the form and features of the original EPetite devices.

The single 18650 battery provides ample battery power even for the DNA 60 board, while allowing the device to keep its incredibly compact form factor.

Internally, the EPetite is one of the first devices to feature Evolv’s DNA60 board, providing wattage from 1 to 60W with 85% output efficiency rating, comprehensive temperature control with a wide range of wire options which when couple with the Escribe software provides the user with full customisation.

At the top of the mod there is a standard 510 connection complete with a spring loaded nickel plated brass centre pin.

The 0.91 Inch OLED screen located on the front removable panel of the device provides the user with all essential information in a well-defined display.

On the narrow side of the EPetite we have our three button control face comprising of an oversized firing mechanism and two smaller adjustment buttons all of which have been set flush into the chassis of the mod.

Below these we have the USB port for onboard charging and connection to Escribe via a computer!

Next to the USB port there is an LED which provide a visual indication when the device is either being charged, connected to Escribe, faults, etc.

Unlike its predecessor which came in ten different chassis colours, yes you read that right ‘10’, the new EPetite DNA60 has just two body colour options, stainless steel and black however it does have a larger range of side panel options which feature Abalone, Wood, Ebony Wood, Rose Wood, Carbon Fibre and Abalone Diamond allowing the user to customise the devices to suit their personal preference.

All in all, the EPetite DNA60 Box Mod by Lost Vape is an exceptionally compact device.

Esquare DNA60

As with the EPetite, the Lost Vape ESquare DNA60 Box Mod is another return to the familiar Platform of the ESquare series, however this time with the new Evolv DNA60 board powered by dual parallel 18650 batteries enabling the device to maintain a great balance between performance, size, and designs.

I’m not going to review the features of the Esquare as its very similar to that of the EPetite when it comes to 510 connections, buttons, screen, USB, etc.

One difference between the Epetite and where the Esquare stands out is with its powering by dual 18650 batteries.

And that’s dual 18650 in parallel, so you will be getting double the mAh from your batteries with this kiddie.

Remember, there’s a big difference between Series and Parallel battery arrangements!

  • 2 Batteries arranged in Series   = 2 x Voltage
  • 2 Batteries arranged in Parallel = 2 x mAh

Please make sure you understand the difference and stay safe.

Like the EPetite, the Esquare DNA60 comes in just two body colour options, stainless steel and black with a good range of side panel options which also include Abalone, Wood, Ebony Wood, Rose Wood, Carbon Fibre and Abalone Diamond.

How Did the Epetite DNA60 & Esquare DNA60 Perform?

Performance wise, both the Epetite & Esquare were top notch as you would expect from any device with a DNA board.Lostvape Esquare and Epetite review

The menu system on the DNA60 board is intuitive to navigate and use.

And, as you would expect from an Evolv DNA board, the temperature control/limiting performed flawlessly!

As with many Lost Vape devices, both the EPetite and Esquare come pre-loaded with a good array of wire profiles which include Kanthal, Ni200, SS316, Titanium, SS304, SS316L, SS430 & Ni200.

No Preheat, so both devices are ready to go straight out of the box without having to connect to a computer and Escribe.

The DNA60 board also supports other wires types through custom TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) settings which can be configured through online resources such as the Wire Wizard on Steam Engine.

As mentioned in previous reviews, TCR modes on any mod are an advanced user feature and should only be used by the more experienced vaper.

With regards to battery life, there was a vast difference between the two devices.

The ESquare being a dual parallel 18650 device provided exceptionally good battery life, easily lasting me two full days vaping at 40-45w before I even had to contemplate swapping the batteries out.

What I Liked

Both of these Lost Vape devices are a marked improvement on their predecessors.

The aluminium frame on both devices is incredibly simple yet stylish. The replaceable panels on the front & rear of the mods provide good comfort and a nice level of customisation while adding the perfect amount of class to the overall appearance of the devices.

Performance wise, I can’t fault either of these devices. The DNA60 board performs exceptionally well, as you would expect, both wattage & temperature control/limiting modes..

What I Dislike

I can’t say that there was really anything that I didn’t like about the either of these Lost Vape devices.

If I had to pick on something I suppose it would be the replaceable panels which, on the originally supplied EPetite, were ever so slightly warped leaving a tiny gap between the body of the device and the rear of the panel. But it was hardly noticeable.

Other than that I can’t really find anything that I say that I really disliked!!.

Final Review Verdict

You really can’t go too far wrong with either of these devices.

Overall my personal favourite would have to be the Lost Vape EPetite DNA60 for its compact form factor and sheer good looks.

If you’re looking for great battery life then the Esquare is a great alternative with almost these same good looks as its little sibling.

Pros

  • Dual 18650 Parallel setup on the Esquare DNA60 provides exceptionally good battery life
  • Pre-installed Wire Profiles make both devices ready to go straight out of the box
  • Replaceable side panels give a level of personal customisation

Cons

  • Fitting the 18650’s can be tricky (subjective)
