Best Squonk Mod VapesAfter an influx of squonkers hitting the shelves over the past year we are firmly on the hunt for the best squonk mod money can buy.

It used to be the case that a regulated mod was pretty much the only choice. Since squonking has reached the mainstream though we have see an increase in regulated squonk mods. Which is good news indeed.

What Are The Best Squonk Mods Currently Available?

After trying over 40 squonk mods we have reached, what for us, are the best we have reviewed. If you are buying a squonk mod just be sure you go for a mod that fits your experience. If choosing an unregulated mod then be sure you are up to scratch on battery safety and Ohms law.

Ok.. enough of that, let’s take a look at the best squonkers that we have tried.

1. Vandy Vape Pulse (Best Selling Squonker)

Vandy VApe Pulse V2
Vandy Vape were one of the first to release a squonk mod (in collaboration with Youtube reviewer Tony B) to the masses and it goes without saying they have been huge hits. The latest in the range is the Vandy Vape Pulse V2.

They have tweaked and improved on many areas, the most noticeable being the form factor. Now we have smooth rounded edges giving it a great hand feel. There is the bottom fill bottle design with a whole host of vape modes for you to go at. Can be vaped in voltage, power, bypass and TC mode.

Inside it is capable of running off three battery types – 18650, 20700 and 21700.

Power wise it allows for a respectable 95W output fully controlled through the crisp OLED screen on the side of the mod.

A great looking squonker, a worthy upgrade to the original Pulse models and a great starting point for most vapers.

Features

  • Compatible with 18650 | 20700 | 21700 batteries
  • Regulated – Upto 95W
  • Bottom fill design

dovpo topside lite squonk kit reviewDovpo, Dovpo, Dovpo. I bet you are sick of seeing Dovpo devices in this list. Well, let me just say, there is a good reason. They make a mean squonk mod.

The Topside Lite is a great looking device that can fire upto 90W with either 10700 or 21700 batteries and (with the kit we reviews) a 18650 battery by use of the supplied adapter. The large, clear OLED screen displays everything clearly and best of all this can be also be switched to use as a standard mod if you fancy a squonk break.

All of the above makes for an easy to use and nice introduction into the world of squonking.

The first version of the Dovpo Topside was this single cell mod that can house 20700/21700 and 18650 batteries.. A great option it is too. With easy top filling, as the name suggest, there is no removing the squonk bottle and parts here..

The build quality and ergonomics are excellent and with a 10ml squonk bottle and power output upto 90W this will keep the heaviest of vapers vaping between fills.

Finishing the mod off we have a nice 0.96″ easy to read OLED screen that allows you to select Wattage, TC and bypass modes.

HellVape Dead Rabbit BF RDA

dead rabbit dripperOnto a look now at some of the best squonking atties available.

Whether using as a standalone dripper or on top of your squonker the Dead Rabbit is one of the best performers currently available.

This is the RDA that got our reviewer Neil back to using drippers, he loved it.

For dual or single coil builds this RDA kicks out flavour in the bucket loads and isn’t too shabby in the cloud department if that’s your thing.

The juice well is deep enough to ensure over squonking is hard to do and the clever deck design is easy to build on.

This is what Neil had to say about the Dead Rabbit:

“As I say all the time I’m not much of a dripper but squonking has brought me back to the RDA family and of the ones I’ve tried the Dead Rabbit is as close to the perfect BF RDA I’ve had the pleasure of using.”

  • 24mm
  • Gold plated Bottom feed pin
  • Dual or single coil options
  • Easy to build on
  • Deep juice well
  • Excellent flavour

Digiflavor Drop BF RDA

drop rda in squonk modeDigiflavor hare know for some great releases as of late and they are carrying that trend forward with the Drop RDA.

In collaboration with YT reviewer Vapor Chronicles the Drop is a beautifully machined atty. There is plenty of room on the deck making it suitable to all levels of builder.

Onto the performance.. Well, lets just take a little excerpt from Neils recent review:

“Flavour wise I can’t fault it – it really does pick out layers of flavour I didn’t know existed in some of my go to juices – definitely one for the flavour chasers – though the cloud production is excellent too!”

Check out our full list of the best squonk RDA’s

  • 24mm Diameter

  • Superb flavour

What is Squonking?

Squonking is a term you may have seen an awful lot of recently and is fast becoming one of the most popular vaping methods around.

Offering the convenience of a tank, with the flavour benefits of an RDA.

Not only that but they enable you to vape all day long with the large capacity bottles found with most squonk mods.

Squonking has really entered the mainstream of vaping recently, with many major manufacturers such as Kanger, Steamcrave and Aspire releasing squonking units and squonking compatible products.

You might be left scratching your head as to what squonking actually is though, so we have put a guide together at the end of our ‘best of’ list that will explain what squonking is, and make things a little bit clearer!

What Is Squonking and Who Is It Aimed At?

Squonking is a style of vaping that involves a squonk mod, and a bottom fed rebuildable tank atomiser.

It’s aimed at any style of vaper, with products available to cater to everyone’s needs, but more specifically people who are looking for an ‘all in one solution’.

The bottles contained within squonkers tend to be of large capacities, doing away with the need to carry around separate bottles of juice through your day.what is squonking?

The atomisers used are rebuildable dripping atomisers with bottom feed pins, meaning you get the very best flavour and vapour!

Unless they have been specifically converted, or fitted with a compatible bottom feed pin, you can’t use an RDA with an every day 510 connector, as there will be no way for the juice to be fed up from your mod to your atomiser.

Likewise, you don’t want to use an RDA with a bottom feed pin fitted on a standard mod, as juice will drip down through the bottom feed pin and get into your mod through the 510 connector.

Which can of course give you some serious issues with your mod.

Only use an RDA with a BF pin on a squonk mod, never on a standard every day mod.

How Do You Squonk?

It’s actually pretty simple, and easy to get to grips with.

You’ll need a specific squonk mod (We have some of the best squonk mods listed below), which is a mod that has a removable squonking bottle and a hole cut out for you to squeeze the bottle.Kanger Dripbox Squonker

Squonkers come either regulated or unregulated (mechanical).

Popular chips such as the Evolv DNA series and Yihi’s SX series can be found in many high end squonkers.

You’ll also need an RDA with a bottom feed pin fitted, squonking will not work with regular RDA’s. Bottom fed squonk atomizer

When you squeeze the squonk bottle juice will be fed up from the bottle into your RDA from underneath, which will coat your wicks with juice.

You then hit the power button of your mod to take a puff.

A quick couple of squeezes on your juice bottle every few puffs or so is usually enough to keep your wicks coated and your vape dry hit free.

It’s dripping without even needing to remove your top cap!

What Kit Do You Need?

  • Squonk mod
  • Squonking bottle
  • Bottom feed compatible RDA – Will not work with standard RDA
  • Bottom feed pin
  • Juice!

Squonking – The Good

One of the best things about squonking is that you have the convenience of a tank, with the flavour and vapour benefits that a dripper provides.

Most squonk mods come with bottle capacities of 7-10ml. This means that you can carry around an entire day’s worth of juice on you, with no need to refill throughout the day, making a squonk mod extremely convenient to carry.squonk mod guide

Plus, the bottles only tend to feed juice up to your atomiser with a squeeze, so you can carry your squonker around with you with no fear of leaking.

One of the biggest plus points in my opinion is that on top of your squonker, is a fully fledged RDA.

Many of the best and most popular RDA’s have bottom feed pins either included or available, which means they can be used with squonk mods.

It is no fuss dripping, a simple squeeze of a bottle feeds juice up and re-juices your wicks with little mess (unless you squonk too hard and flood your deck). You can drip all day long without needing to remove the top cap of your atomiser.

There’s real value for money to be found as well, with quite a few ‘all in one’ kits available that provide you with a squonk mod and bottom fed atomiser, at very competitive pricing too.

Kits such as the Council of Vapor Wraith and Kanger Dripbox 160 are well priced all in options, which can work out cheaper than many vape mod and sub ohm tank combos.

Squonking – The Bad

Under-squonking and Over-squonking

Unless you have a clear cap on your bottom fed dripper to see your build, you might struggle at first with ensuring your wicks are juiced correctly. This can result in Under-squonking, which gives you dry hits. Never a pleasant thing.

Or Over-squonking which floods your deck, causing leaking and spit-back. That’s never a nice thing either!

You might find you have an adjustment period whilst you work out the best balance and what works best for your mod and atomiser.

Limited choice.

The squonking market is rapidly expanding, and with major manufacturers involved it is only going to get bigger over time.

However, at present you are limited if you are looking for a squonk kit that is widely available and cheap.

There is a huge market from artisan high end suppliers. However, they are limited to what they produce which in turn means the chance of you finding rocking horse crap may be a more likely outcome.

If you stick to the more well known manufacturers, there isn’t a whole lot of choice right now, (or at least at the time of writing) but what there is will certainly do the trick.

Will Squonking Be For Me?

If you already use drippers for the vast majority of your time, trying out a squonker should be an absolute no brainer.

There are squonk mods and atomisers out there that cater for just about every style of vaping.

Bottom feed pins for various popular drippers are now available too in order to make them compatible with squonk mods.

I would recommend squonking to everybody, beginner to experienced vaper.

It’s something that every vaper should try at least once due to the excellent all in one solution it provides, and the market is only getting bigger in size.

Have a look at our ‘Top Squonkers’ guide above to get a feel for the best products available right now in the squonking market!

We have a mix of the rare and high end, regulated and unregulated, right down to more budget friendly alternatives that still offer excellent performance.

So there are some recommendations to get the ball rolling. Do you have a favourite Squonk Mod?

By the way RDSA stands for “Rebuildable Dripping Squonk Atomiser”!

Steam Crave for the most part, are the kings of creating large, high powered mods and tanks and as always they never cease to surprise me with what they come up with next.

At the start of this year I was fortunate enough to try out the Hadron Plus Combo Kit that combined a huge Dual 21700 DNA250c device with the Aromamizer Plus V2. For the most part, it was a thoroughly enjoyable bit of kit, if not a little on the large side – but that’s to be expected from Steam Crave.

What Can We Expect From the Hadron RDSA, Mesh RDSA & Pumper by Steam Crave

So let’s be straight up about what we’re looking at with this next instalment in the Hadron line.

We have two rebuildables!

Firstly the Hadron RDSA is a 30mm dripper with a postless deck which is suitable for both series and parallel builds.

According to which clamps you use you can use this as a series or parallel deck. In series mode your coil resistance is added together – i.e. 2×0.3ohm = 0.6ohm total.

In a parallel build your coil resistance is halved so 2×0.3ohm = 0.15ohm total.

hadron rdsa series parallel

There are side and bottom airflow adjustments.

The Hadron Mesh RDSA is also 30mm in diameter but is a Dual Mesh rebuildable and has side adjustable airflow.

Both of the above drippers are perfectly compatible with something very new and ‘innovative’ – The Pumper.

So what is the Pumper? Effectively it’s what I have affectionately called ‘The Squonky Tank’! A 30mm tank which can hold 12ml of e-liquid and has a very clever pump design meaning you can directly pump e-liquid into your dripper without the need to purchase a squonk mod.

However – Size, as always with Steam Crave is the real issue!

Let’s crack on and see how this performs!

Key Features

Fortunately all these three products can be purchased separately.

If you’re just looking for a new 30mm dripper, you can pick up the Hadron RDSA and use however you like. Or pair it with the pumper?

Or if you’re not a fan of 30mm drippers and don’t like the thought of carrying around a bulky squonk mod, you could get the Pumper and use your own dripper as the 510 connection on the Pumper allows use of any dripper you like.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Stainless Steel variants of all three products and across the board, like pretty much all Steam Crave products, the general build quality is to their high standard.

Hadron RDSA

Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

The top of the Hadron RDSA features a nice marbled blue/purple 810 drip tip that fits nicely into the top cap which is push fitted into the barrel. The Top-Cap is also responsible for your side airflow adjustment and rotates nicely with a small amount of restriction. The top knurled design offers a small amount of additional grip

Barrel & Bottom Airflow

The main barrel is held on via O-rings which personally I find a little on the loose side. The barrel has 2 small locator notches that click into place with the deck meaning your airflow is always centred with the coils. The airflow options are quite vast from all open, to just the centre holes open or just the bottom two open.

The barrel itself has some nicely etched STEAM CRAVE text along with a honeycomb airflow design. Connected to the barrel, but removable is a bottom airflow ring which adjusts freely and offers a direct airflow under the installed coils.

Deck

This is where things get a little clever. The Hadron RDSA deck is a post-less deck with Allen key grub screws and can be built as a Series or Parallel build. Therefore you have a vast number of options when building on the Hadron RDA. Not to mention it is capable of holding up to around 5mm ID coils.

The deck itself is push fitted into the base of the RDA and has two small notches which locate into the groves of the barrel which makes fitment very easy. It also has a fairly nicely sized juice well, ideal for dripping and absorbing e-liquid when squonking.

Either side of the deck are two small holes located near the base of the juice well, which is where e-liquid will flow when squonking. So it’s wise to keep these slightly clear to allow e-liquid to flow.

The Base

If you’ve not had a Steam Crave rebuildable before, specifically an RDA or RDTA then the style in which the base doubles up as the deck can be a little strange but its nothing too confusing. The solid 510 pin protrudes nicely and can be swapped for a bottom feed (BF) hollow squonk pin.

The base includes the usual branding and batch numbers.

How Does The Hadron RDSA Perform?

Building on the Hadron RDSA

Due to the post-less deck, building on the Hadron RDSA is very easy. Coil position is the main thing to consider.

Using the furthest two outer positions will create a Parallel build, whereas if you connect the coils diagonally (Shown in the image below) you will create a Series build meaning your resistance will be higher than that of a parallel build.

I found cutting my coils at 6.0mm was an ideal length to allow the coils to meet centre with the side airflow, along with leaving enough height for bottom air to flow freely as well as plenty of room for a fair length of cotton.

Once I had fitted the coils, I pulsed them at a low wattage and raked out any hot spots until the coils glow evenly from the centre.

Wicking The Hadron RDSA

If you’re planning on using the Hadron RDSA as a dripper, then you’re welcome to pack the deck with cotton to your hearts content. However if combining with the Pumper or a regular squonk mod then its worth considering thinning the cotton a little to allow for a smacking of e-liquid to be absorbed quickly without blocking up and flooding the deck. Which unfortunately, can be done easily if you’re not careful.

Even though the Hadron RDSA has a fairly sized juice well, once that space is filled with cotton, when squonking the e-liquid will have no-where else to travel but through the bottom airflow and anywhere else liquid likes to travel.

Flavour and Clouds

I used a pair of Fused Clapton from Proper Coils, coming out in Parallel at 0.14Ω and vaping at 100watts. The flavour is very good but making a number of airflow adjustments really makes a difference to the experience.

With both the bottom, and side airflow both open, the airflow is direct, open and surprisingly smooth with the tiniest of restriction. It certainly feels similar in vape experience to something like the Aromamizer Plus V2 with perhaps a little less restriction. Flavour is an 8 out of 10 for sure.

Closing the bottom airflow and relying fully on the side, the restriction is only slightly more noticeable, flavour is the same but if anything it’s a little warmer than with all airflow open.

Closing the side airflow completely and relying on the bottom airflow alone is not a good idea. The draw is just too tight, yeah sure it allows for a restrictive DTL draw but with the large coils installed, it’s a little too toasty for a good vape.

DTL stands for “Direct To Lung” and we describe it in more detail in our Guide To Vape Styles.

My favourite preference is with the bottom airflow open and just the two bottom rows of the side airflow open. This allows for a little restriction, but a very smooth draw and very good flavour.

Hadron Mesh RDSA

Although you may think Steam Crave would just swap the deck of the Hadron RDSA and pop a Mesh deck in. Well no – the Mesh RDSA is much more than that and they’ve certainly made different considerations when it comes to airflow and the way in which a mesh coil works differently to a standard dual coil build.

Once thing that surprised me initially with the Mesh RDSA is just how short and stumpy it is. For a 30mm diameter Mesh RDA, its only 0.6mm taller than it is wide!

Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

The Black 810 drip tip sits nice and snug on the top cap and sits on a slightly raised platform. The top cap also doubles up as the airflow adjustment and clicks into place thanks to the small locator markers on the top cap. You can adjust the airflow between two options, a dual honeycomb row or a single row of holes on each side.

Inner Barrel

The inner enclosure fits onto the deck via O-Rings and is a little loose in fitment which means it falls off easily. A little annoying but it does have two large airflow slots that allow air to directly hit the dual mesh build. This inner barrel condenses the RDSA so that when air enters the dripper, there is barely any room for it to move, other than across the mesh and up through the drip tip.

Deck

The build deck is similar to the Mesh deck available for the Aromamizer Plus V2 however this one provides space for two mesh strips. Apparently meaning more flavour, vapour and certainly more e-liquid.

The deck consists of 4 clamps with Phillip’s head grub screws which provide a nice tight clamp to your mesh strip.

The juice well is a little small considering the massive amount of cotton you have to pass through the mesh but with a little thinning, it fits fine.

The deck doesn’t provide any additional support for the cotton under the mesh, which is different to most mesh rebuildables which usually have a spring loaded support for the cotton to keep it pressed against the mesh. Not having this in place, is a mistake in my opinion.

The Base

The base of the Mesh RDSA has a protruding 510 pin and the expected branding and batch information. The 510 pin can be swapped for a squonk pin as well but be careful when removing the pin as its holding the deck in place also.

How Does The Hadron Mesh RDSA Perform?

Building on the Hadron Mesh RDSA

The kit comes with two sets of mesh strips, two are SS and the other two are Kanthal A1. In the kit is a mesh forming tool which is handy to carefully bend the mesh into a curved shape.

Opening the grub screws just enough to fit the mesh into place isn’t too difficult, just be sure not to open the clamps up too much or the screw will fall out. And more importantly ensure the mesh is sat square and flush otherwise its possible to twist the mesh or even kink it.

Once the strips are installed and the clamps are tight, be sure to give the mesh a gentle pulse at around 20W to remove any dirt and to ensure an even glow.

Generally speaking the deck is very simple to build on, it’s the wicking which can be a challenge.

Wicking The Mesh RDSA

The kit comes with 2 large shoe lace cotton strips and it only takes one strip to wick the deck. Gently guiding the cotton through the two strips can be tricky, so take your time.

Once through the two strips, give the cotton a gentle to-and-fro pull to ensure it’s tightly bedded against the mesh.

I found cutting the cotton at a diagonal angle and raking out a small amount as well allowed for the best wicking and also allows a little room for e-liquid to travel especially when squonking. But it’s a fine line between too much cotton which will mean leaks and lack of saturation and too little cotton which will cause flooding and leaking also.

Honestly I’ve struggled to find the balance between the two, but it’s possible with practice. Less is generally more with this deck. Just be sure to have some tissue close by to mop up any leaks.

Flavour and Clouds

Generally speaking Mesh rebuildables can be a bit hit or miss and I’m yet to figure out quite why because in essence they’re generally very similar in style, build deck and airflow design. The Hadron Mesh RDSA sits somewhere in the middle between a great vape, and an under achiever. But it’s still a serious cloud chucker for sure thanks to that Dual Mesh build.

I started off at 60 Watts with the double slotted airflow and the experience is cool, and airy with average flavour. Ramping up the wattage to 80 Watts (the lowest recommended) and the clouds become thick and dense. There is a slight warmth and the flavour comes through quite well too. However it’s still a fairly airy draw but I always prefer high amounts of airflow on mesh rebuildables so I stuck at it.

The maximum recommended on the Kanthal A1 Mesh is 160 watts. So why not…

Honestly – I was scared due to the fear of a mesh dry hit from hell! But amazingly the cotton and the mesh work wonders to create a serious cloud whilst still keeping decent flavour. The warmth from this build is surprising considering it is mesh! A little Over-The-Top for me personally, however it works, it keeps up and it’ll fog out a room in no time.

I need to mention at this point, I tried the single slotted airflow but felt it was just a little too restrictive regardless of how you set your wattage so during all my testing I used the double row of airflow slots. I just feel like mesh needs much more airflow.

The Steam Crave Pumper

After reading all the waffle about the Hadron RDSA and Mesh RDA you’re probably wondering how well the Pumper can be combined with either of the two rebuildables to become a super mega pumpy squonk tank. So here goes….

First off – using the Pumper with any 510 threaded dripper is going to drastically raise the height of your setup. The Pumper is almost 40mm in height so adding that to any setup is going to ‘raise’ its profile quite a lot, if not double it. So that’s something to keep in mind.

The Pumper allows you to use any dripper with squonk pin installed on top of the pumper and removes the need for a squonking device. Very clever and it works very simply.

The 12ml capacity tank doesn’t surprise me as Steam Crave always offer the maximum they can and 12ml is a larger capacity than a number of squonk mods offer.

The idea is you place your dripper on top of the pumper and when you need to saturate the cotton you give the side mounted plunger a ‘pump’ and e-liquid will travel into the dripper. Simple right?

But is the side mounted push button a bit of an eye-sore? Well yeah a little and it also adds to the width of the setup, but I suppose if you want this kind of thing, you’ll just have to accept it.

The Top/510 Connector

Having a 30mm diameter means you can fit anything up to 30mm on top of the pumper without any overhang. But of course you can use any dripper you like or even an RDTA if it’s capable of being used with a squonker – i.e. includes a hollow (bottom feed – BF) 510 pin.

At the top there is a nicely located O-Ring to limit leaking when squonking and also to protect the 510 connection. And it seals quite well.

Internals

Taking the Pumper apart and you realise just how simple, yet clever the system is, there is a small hole near the bottom of the pump tube which will force the e-liquid up into the RDA. There are O-Rings top and bottom to create a good seal also.

Squonk Plunger

Protruding on one side is the actual Plunger or press-button which does all the squonky magic. The solid feeling button presses smoothly and each press of the button pushes exactly 0.22ml per press. As much as it’s perhaps a little ugly, it’s functional and throughout my testing has been trustworthy.

Fill Port

Opposite the plunger is the filling port which is protected by a threaded, knurled cap which also has a small airflow hole on one side.

Unscrewing the cap can be a little tricky as it’s quite small, but the knurl helps to grip. However keep an eye on it as it’s very easy to loose and there are no spares in the box!

How Does The Steam Crave Pumper Perform?

Squonking & How many Pumps?

When you buy a new Squonk Mod it can take a little while to get accustomed to how long, or how hard you have to press the bottle to perfectly saturate the coil. And the Pumper is no different. It’s very easy to over-squonk so to start with I strongly suggest the ‘One Pump at a time’ technique – Without sounding too smutty!

When using the Hadron Mesh RDA – I found 1 single squeeze of the plunger was enough to force e-liquid right into the centre of the cotton under the mesh – Any more than that and the e-liquid floods the deck and becomes a problem.

When using the Hadron RDSA, I’d say a press and a half is much better. The RDSA has a better juice well which won’t be as packed with cotton as the Mesh deck will, allowing for excess e-liquid to sit in the juice well rather than flooding out. But again, be cautious because an over-squonk can start leaking out through the bottom airflow.

Generally speaking, once you come to terms with how it behaves, it performs very well and is actually quite fun in a way. It’s also very trustworthy and I’m yet to experience any airlocks, bubbles or seizing of the pump button.

Another thing to mention, I was surprised that adding the Pumper to an RDA didn’t make any difference to the resistance reading on a device. Literally nothing. Adding this kind of size tank in-between the build deck and the 510 connector on the device itself, surely would affect the resistance, but clearly not. So you can appreciate that decent materials have been used to keep the resistance super low.

Aesthetics

There are two main problems when combining the Pumper with any Dripper.

Firstly – it’s a big old unit to add onto your setup, its height and width really make your existing setup top-heavy, especially when freshly loaded up with 12ml of e-liquid. So it doesn’t look very smart, nor is it very practical to carry around.

The second issue is alignment – with the pump button on one side sticking out like a sore thumb, I try as hard as I can to align it square with whichever device I have it fitted on, but it’s not always that simple and becomes a little annoying.

However paired up with the Steam Crave Hadron Plus device, I was able to align it beautifully and I pretty much kept it on this mod the entire time. Also meaning the device itself can absorb some of the size of the pumper and RDA making it looks smaller than it is thanks to the size of the Hadron device itself.

Final Review Verdict

Well – where do I start.

Firstly, and one thing I really like, each of the components listed in this review can be independently purchased and work perfectly well on their own, well – as long as you have a dripper prepared for the Pumper. Considering the size and build quality of the three products, they’re all very competitively priced also.

Obviously, pairing one of the RDA’s with the Pumper, isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. But for those who enjoy this kind of high powered ‘Out There’ systems, particularly the Steam Crave Nuts – I’m pretty sure they will thoroughly enjoy the experiences on offer from these products. So let’s keep these factors in mind when rating the Steam Crave Hadron RDSA, Mesh RDSA and Pumper.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

All three products are to Steam Craves high standards of build quality and durability. The only minor observation comes down to how loose the O-Rings are on the barrels of the RDA’s and they certainly need beefing up a little. The top cap coming off too easily is certainly my biggest nit pick out of every Con I listed above.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

Generally speaking the vape experience is very good, it’s certainly Steam Crave-esque. Sure if you’re looking for a high powered, sub-ohm vape then the two RDA’s can certainly provide that. Personally I’m a fan of larger RDA’s, 28-30mm in particular as they allow a plume of vapour and tons of flavour along with a bagful of airflow.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper and an experienced one alike?

Clearly not for the newbies – An experienced hobbyist would certainly enjoy this if they have a large high power device to pair them with. Just remember when all put together, this isn’t the kind of kit you can stick in your back pocket.

Have you bought the Hadron RDSA, Mesh RDSA or Pumper by Steam Crave?

Could the Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF kit be a much needed addition to the squonk kit market?

Do you remember the Boom in the squonk market?

Now I’m no expert with the history of squonkers, but there are a number of key points in history that have defined squonking in general.

First off I remember the Vandy Vape Pulse, and Pulse V2. Also the Ohm Boy OCC Desire Rage Squonk.

What I remember most about squonking, is its death. Caused by the still popular Dovpo Topside Dual, along with the single battery variant.

Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of other dual, and single battery squonkers which have been popular and used by many even to this day. But seeing a new squonk device hit the market has been few and far between.

And after the very impressive year that Lost Vape has had, I was surprised to see they decided to really put on their Billy Big Boy trousers, and release a single 21700 100w squonker, with a Single coil RDA to boot!

I mean – Talk about sticking it to the man! By man, I mean the dead squonking market.

What Can We Expect From The Centaurus Quest BF kit by Lost Vape?

Let’s not beat about the bush then. The Centaurus Quest BF kit is simply a single 21700 device, making use of Lost Vapes Quest 2.0 chipset and can fire up to 100w.

The Quest 2.0 chipset is an upgraded variant over the first which was used in the original Lost Vape Grus Mod, then upgraded for a second version, along with the Lost Vape Ursa and the Lost Vape Cyborg. So Lost Vape have had plenty of devices that make use of this chip.

As much as the Centaurus Quest squonk mod can be purchased separately, it can be bought in a kit and is coupled with the Centaurus Solo RDA. A single coil RCD with pre-installed BF pin.

The Lost Vape Centaurus Quest FB mod is advertised as a ‘2 in 1’ device, as it can be used as a squonker, or you can remove the squonk bottle, and fit the 9.5ml capacity storage bottle and treated as a regular 100w device.

The Centaurus Solo RDA is Lost Vapes first RDA and features dual channel adjustable airflow which channels the air to each side, and below the single coil, twin posts with enough room for a fairly large coil and is 24mm in diameter.

So let’s Crack on and see what the Lost Vape Centaurus BF Kit is all about…

Colours

The kit comes in a range of colours which all have corresponding coloured RDA’s to match the device. Along with this there are a number of different colours leather craps around the side of the devices.

Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Kit Design & Build Quality

I received the Gunmetal Pearl finish which has a black leather panel, and a gunmetal Centaurus Solo RDA.

The  Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA

Drip Tip & Top Cap:

The pre installed 810 drip tip is actually quite smart looking, and fits nice and snug into the top cap of the RDA.

The top-cap is removable as well and has two squared off slots for your airflow. There is a single, clear O-ring which fits nice and snug onto the barrel, but being just a single O-Ring, I do have a little concern that it’ll wear out fairly quickly, however there are spares in the kit.

The top-cap also has some slight doming, however its more squared off than domed.

The Barrell

The first thing you notice is the huge Centaurus logo stamped onto the side of the barrel. Perhaps a little bit of an Over-Brand, some may say. Personally, it goes with the rest of the theme, so I like it.

The barrel has two airflow slots which are approx 6mm in width and for a nice little touch, there is an arrow located just above one of the airflow holes, making it easier to line the barrel up with the deck.

Inside the barrel are two U-Shaped obstructions which are situated inside the airflow holes, forcing your airflow down, into the deck airflow channels.

Lastly – the barrel is fairly thin. A thin barrel works very well for heat dissipation, but not so well for strength but the barrel doesn’t feel like its weak in any way, in fact it feels fairly solid for just how thin it is.

The Deck:

I haven’t used a great number of single coil RDA’s, but one things for sure, Lost Vape have been clever with the space available for a single coil.

The airflow on the deck has been designed in a way that it hits the coil from below, but at a 90 degree angle from both sides, meaning it’s technically going to give an even spread of air in the right direction over the coil and up through the drip tip.

I don’t know the depth, but the Deck is deep enough to allow for e-liquid to pool and suck down into the bottle if it doesn’t all get soaked up by the cotton.

The Base:

The base has the usual warning marks and Lost Vape branding, but its important to take note of the 510 pin which  has a milled centre hole for squonking, but can be swapped out for a solid state pin.

The peak insulator sits slightly above the threading so it should be fine for a mechanical mod, but I would have liked to have seen a little more of the insulator.

Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA – Overall:

Overall the quality of the Solo RDA is very good, the paint finish is strong and feels durable and the deck is well machined. Everything fits together very well and I have no real concerns over the build quality.

The Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Mod:

510 Connector:

The 510 connector is obviously where the squonky magic happens, but the baseplate itself is also large enough to house a 26mm atomiser, meaning you don’t necessarily need to stick to the Centaurus Solo RDA if you have a preferred dripper, or even a tank you would like to use.

The Front of the Centaurus Quest BF Mod

Ok so we’re going to call the front, where the fire button is, and the left side, is where the screen is!

Yeah obviously with squonkers, you generally find the display and all that magic is located separately to the fire button, due to the fact you have to have a squonk bottle somewhere on the device.

Up top is a large, curved, square fire button which is slightly ski slope shaped, but a little more flush but has a nice click to it.

Squokn Bottles

Below the fire button is the squonk bottle and its housing which is removable.

The squonk bottle housing can be slid down with a medium to firm press downwards which will release the housing, at which point you can fit the spare 9.5ml capacity storage bottle, if you decide you have no need to squonk.

I have noticed however, after a short while, the bottle housing does weaken a little, meaning if you squeeze the squonk bottle in the wrong way – slightly downwards for example – you may find you accidentally push the housing down!

The squonk bottle, and storage bottles are silicone based and I’m no expert, but they squeeze nice, and also suck the e-liquid back into the bottle fairly well. No complaints.

Cleverly enough, Lost Vape have included a little valve on the top of the squonk bottle, so when the bottle is released from the device, the valve shuts, and e-liquid wont come pouring out – meaning you can flip the bottle upside down, remove the small threaded cap, and re-fill. Clever and simple.

The threaded cap is a little on the small side, so fingers, thumbs and decent dexterity are required.

The Side

As previously mentioned, the side of the device is where your display and adjustment buttons are situated, along with a USB type C port at the bottom of the pile.

The 0.96in display is bright and clear with plenty of information on the main screen, along with a comprehensive menu.

Below the screen are the up and down adjustment buttons, and in keeping with the Quest chipset, there is also a middle button, which is basically an ‘Enter’ button.

The Battery Door

Lost Vape love these screw in, threaded battery doors and the Centaurus Quest BF mod is no different. However, these type of battery doors are trustworthy, as long as you don’t cross-thread them and they also allow the device to be as short as possible.

There is also a nice amount of battery venting on the cap.

Externals:

At first glance, the Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BP kit looks unusual. You have a fire button and bottle on the front, a display and buttons to one side, a leather wrap around the back and a solid feeling plate with different graphics on the other side. It looks odd!

It certainly takes a little time to get used to, more with how you hold, and use the device.

But it certainly feels solid, high quality and by no means is it any less of a decent feeling kit than say the Ursa, Grus, Cyborg, Centaurus DNA250c or Thelema. Which In my opinion, have all been very well made devices.

The Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Mod – Overall:

Overall the Centaurus Quest BF mod has all the right features, in all the right places and feels very good quality.

In The Hand

As previously mentioned, the kit can take a little while to get comfortable with, especially if you haven’t squonked in a while.

In the hand, the Centaurus Quest BF kit feels a but like your usual Dual 18650 device and its certainly weighty thanks to the Zinc Alloy construction.

The leather wrap about the back of the device is fairly soft, allowing for a nice grip, but its not very padded.

I’ve preferred the kit as a finger firer in my right hand. Meaning my middle finger can squeeze the bottle, whilst my index finger does the firing.

In the left hand, you can obviously treat it exactly the same, with the only trouble being that the display and adjustment button are inside the palm of your hand. Not a big deal, but something I should mention.

How To Build on the Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA

A few things to consider when building on the Centaurus Solo RDA. Firstly, are you building for squonking or dripping?

Secondly, are you looking to thrash it at 100 watts and carry batteries, or you cant a build that can give you battery life all day.

I’ve tried both options, but the option below is somewhere between the two. Offering a fairly high powered vape at 75 watts, which at about 250-300 puffs, should give you enough battery life to last all day.

I used a Proper Coils Fralien coil, which for the spec-heads is  2x28g Ni80 with 6x KA1 Ni80 and has a 3mm inner diameter.

How to build on the Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA

  • Open your post terminals
  • Fit your coil and tighten the post screws
  • Adjust your coil position so its directly between the two airflow holes
  • Cut the ends of the coil as close to the posts as you can
  • Pulse your coil on low wattage and gently rake to get an even glow
  • Allow the coil to cool, then wick with cotton.
  • Cut the cotton to your desired length, I went for a cut just past the edge of the deck and tuck into the deck.
  • Soak your cotton with e-liquid, and if you’re squonking, give it a little squeeze too
  • NOTE – When squonking, if your coil position is too low, the squonked e-liquid will pass over the coil, and potentially down the airflow openings, which may lead to leakage.

How Does the Lost Vape Centaurus BF Kit perform?

Basic operation

Front screen shows:

  • Wattage/Power setting
  • Battery life and percentage
  • Set Wattage/Voltage
  • Coil Resistance
  • Power Mode (Hard, Normal/Soft)
  • Puff Count
  • Settings Tab

Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Menu

There’s a small number of button sequences to remember to operate this device:

  • 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
  • Up button will adjust power/scroll through options
  • Down button will adjust power/scroll through options
  • Middle button will highlight options, which can then be scrolled through with up/down buttons.

Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Main Settings

Once you’re into the main settings tab, you have the option to find more info on your set power mode, adjust brightness, change the screen colour, browse your user set programmes, reset the device and also find out your chipsets version.

Flavour & Clouds

For the duration of my testing, I was vaping on Code Red by Darkstar that is an 80Vg 20PG mix, which at times – got a little thick due to the cold temperatures we’ve had recently. And the squonk bottle done  decent job of coping with the very thick liquid.

The Fralien Build.

My Fralien build came out at 0.27Ω which after a lot of tinkering, I ended up at 75 watts, Allowing a fair amount of power, vapour production whilst also considering battery life.

Open Airflow

With the airflow set to its max, the Centaurus Solo performs well, if not a little too open for my preferences. Flavour is also reduced because of the amount of airflow. There is also a little noise from the RDA. Almost a slight whistle which can be a little annoying. But not too loud.

Quarter Closed Airflow

With the airflow set with a quarter closed. I found my sweet spot. Allowing for a comfortable smooth Direct to Lung Vape, whilst improving flavour and limiting noise.

I’m not a regular single coil RDA user, but I’ve been very impressed with the flavour from this RDA at this setting. Almost top marks.

Three Quarters Closed Airflow

With the airflow set to three quarters closed, the restriction allows for a restrictive direct lung vape which I actually quite comfortable and fairly quiet. There is a slight wishy washy feel to it, but it didn’t bother me much at all. Flavour is still very good.

Pros

Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Mod

  • Solid build and feel
  • Easy to navigate menu and functions
  • Squonk bottle feels quality
  • Squonk housing holds and removes quite well.

Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA

  • Good build quality
  • Easy to build on
  • Fits together well

Cons

Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Mod

  • Can take a while to get used to
  • Battery door may bother some
  • Squonk bottle cap requires good dexterity
  • USB-C port can get filled with… stuff

Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA

  • Airflow can be a little turbulent
  • Over-branded for some

Final Review Verdict

I’ve been trying to figure out what I feel about this kit from Lost Vape. Have they reignited a section of vaping which almost appeared to be dead? Or have they just added another squonker to the pile, which couldn’t match up to the ease of the Dovpo Topside devices?

Personally – Apart from not being top-filling. I think they’ve nailed it. If this kit was released 4 years ago, I believe it would have been one of the top sellers. But what about the fact that they released it now? Is squonking still relevant?

Well this is the case – If squonking, and the manufacture of squonk devices can be reignited – then this is the kit that will start it all off again.

When it comes to the Centaurus Solo RDA – Its certainly no slouch and produces a nice vape and good flavour with the right coils.

So the 3 big questions I ask when testing a product are:

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

Lost Vape haven’t forgotten about quality, this year they’ve been excellent when it comes to developing hard wearing mainstream devices, and the Centaurus Quest BF Kit is no different.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

The Lost Vape Centaurus Solo RDA performs well, if not a little fiddly with the airflow for a while. Fit the right coil and you’ll eventually et the vape experience your after.

Is the Lost Vape Centaurus Quest BF Kit  versatile enough to suit a new and experienced vapers?

Well its certainly not for new vapers. When I started vaping, the word ‘Squonking’ sounded very stupid! And I had no clue what it meant.

For the squonkers out there… If you want to see new squonk devices hit the market in 2022 – Get one!

Wotofo is based in China they have been operating since 2009, and they have bought us devices like the Mdura Pro, Dyadic Sqounk mod and Chieftain mod and RDA toppers like the Serpent BF RDA, Srpnt RDA and the Profile RDA.

What Can We Expect From the Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod?

This mod doesn’t need to be pigeonholed solely as a regulated squonking device!

It has two modes of operation, in squonk mode it comes with a 7ml squonk bottle and runs up to 80w on one 18650 battery, and in dual mode the device is capable of 200w of power.

Design and Build Quality

I was sent the Gunmetal version for this review, and it was presented nicely in a cardboard box with a plastic over sleeve.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Overview

Measuring in at 93.85mm tall with a 30mm tank diameter, the width of the device is 44.4mm it’s made of Zinc Alloy and plastic materials, and weighs 135g straight out of the box.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod on fingers

From the Top

The Profile Squonk has a centralised stainless steel 510 connection plate with well turned threading, and a gold plated hollow squonk pin that is springy.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod – Front

It has a bright 0.96” TFT colour display that shows everything you would normally expect to see.

Both adjustment and fire buttons are made of plastic, and while the fire button is at the top centre of the mod, it has a nice clicky feel to it and is easy to reach and use.

Alongside the screen at the bottom is printed “NexChip inside”.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod – Body

Thanks to the beveled sides and the 44.4mm thickness of the device, it is very comfortable to hold in the hand for an extended period of time.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod – Battery Door

On the rear of the device is a plastic magnetic battery door that has been moulded heavily with logos, the door has 2 strong magnets top and bottom to hold the door in place, and has a wide thumb slot for activating your squonk bottle.

Removing the door is aided by a thumbnail slot.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod advert door battery

Inside the mod you’ll find a pre installed a 7ml silicone squonk bottle, which sits inside an aluminium cage that has a screw cap.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod 7ml squonk bottle

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Battery Sled

When the bottle is removed the device has a clean plastic battery sled with a side ribbon for removal of your battery and squonk bottle.

Personally I think there is a slight design flaw here – to change your battery out, you have to pop out your bottle as well.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod sled battery

Had Wotofo used 2 ribbons centre seated, removal of just the battery would be easier.

The battery sled is well marked for battery orientation, with gold plated battery contacts and marked on the sled as A & B – B being the hollow 510 squonk pin.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod A&B markings

I can see another small problem here with liquid on your battery, in dual mode.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod – Bottom

On the bottom of the device you will find your Type C USB 2A charge port, along with loads of advertising and safety marks.

All told the Profile Squonk is good quality, although I feel it’s a wee bit tall for a squonk.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod mod bottom

Before I even used this device I spotted a few minor issues with it, or am I just being picky?

How Does the Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Perform?

For this review I will be using the Wotofo Srpnt RDA in squonk mode.Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Srpnt liquid mod

And later with my Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA in dual mode!

I will also be using Flavour Burst – Apple Burst e-liquid in both atomisers.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Quick Start Guide

Decide if you want to squonk or not!

As a Squonking device

  • Remove the plastic battery door and take out the 7ml bottle, unscrew the cap and fill with E-liquid.Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod bottle filling
  • Replace the cap and replace into your mod along with a freshly charged 18650 battery!Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod full squonk bottle
  • Prepare your BF RDA as you would normally, and then screw on to the Profile Squonk mod.
  • Lightly squeeze the bottle until you see liquid dampening your cotton.

As a normal dual battery vaping device

Remove the bottle, making sure you clean any remaining E-liquid from all contacts in particular the squonk pin! Insert 2 freshly charged 18650’s add your tank and away you go!dual mode

You can charge the batteries via the type C port, but as always I recommend using a standalone charger!

Functions

  • Click the fire button x5 fast to turn the device on and off.
  • Using the up and down buttons will alter the wattage.
  • Click the fire button x3 will completely lock and unlock the mod.
  • Holding down both adjustment buttons will lock and unlock the wattage.
  • Fire and up buttons together, will allow you to change to any of the 6 theme colours – red, yellow, blue white, purple and green.
  • Fire and down button together will clear the puff counter!

The device will adjust and round robin from 5 to 80w with a single 18650 or 5 to 200w with dual 18650’s

max dual mode

The mod has a 0.001 instant fire thanks to the NexChip, and includes protections like Atomizer detection, Overheat and PCB safety shut off.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod – In Use

Let’s to the heart of this device!

Squonk Mode

I love squonking – it can be a good alternative to dripping!

I’m not going to lie here and say this the best squonk mod I have ever used, that pleasure for me belongs to the Dovpo Topside dual, however I will say it would be perfect for beginners to learn about all the pitfalls of squonking before going the route of a more expensive squonk device!

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod – Screen

When I fired up the device in squonk mode, the first thing that caught my eye was the greyed out battery B indicator.

screen squonk

The next was the size of the fonts and the amount of wasted space on screen; while the screen is easy to read indoors, outside in direct sunlight it’s not!

Squonk Mode

I had no problem using the device in squonk mode, it does take a few seconds for the squonk action to start working.

And just for the record the Wotofo Srpnt RDA functioned perfectly on the mod producing good flavour and excellent vapour production!Srpnt Toot

The only thing that got on my nerves is when switching out the battery was also having to remove the bottle at the same time.

Although in an odd way this did serve a purpose as each time I did so, I wiped out any stray liquid in the battery sled.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Dual Mode

I’ve got to say I hate this door, there is far too much blatant advertising on it and in this mode one of the two 18650 batteries is left partially open to the elements.

dual mode door

I also had to make sure in dual mode, that no liquid was left in the hollow 510 connection as well as the tube used to transport the liquid to the 510, before inserting my dual 18650 batteries – I did this by blowing into the 510 connection and giving the sled a good clean after.

 liquid display

The mod functioned wonderfully as a standard vaping device, with my Fat Rabbit RTA on top I achieved 120w without bothering my micro lungs to much lol.

Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod Battery Life

In squonk mode I find at 35/40w I get about 2 hours vape time, and in dual mode I get just about 3.5 hours at 65/70w.

Pros

  • Fair Quality
  • OK Design
  • Fast firing
  • Fair battery life under normal use
  • Very comfortable to hold
  • 7ml liquid squonk capacity
  • Good price if you shop around

Cons

  • Battery ribbon
  • Battery door thumb slot in dual mode
  • Cleaning out liquid from the 510
  • Too much advertising

Final Review Verdict

OK I found some minor niggles with this device, but I don’t want them to detract on the way this device functions which is admirably in both modes.

This is an innovative mod without question due to the 2 modes, however I can’t really say who would go for this type of device?

I can’t really see the device being a hit with the diehard squonk crowd, and as a regular device some might have an issue with the thumb slot.

The advertising on this mod is blatant and over the top!

Would I recommend the Wotofo Profile Squonk Mod?

Maybe for those who want to learn how to squonk and all its pitfalls before buying a more expensive squonk device.

Would I buy this device again due loss or damage?

For me personally “No” I have better squonk devices at hand.

So…is this a squonk mod you;re using or looking to buy?

The SXmini SX Nano review and this is obviously the smaller version of the hugely popular SX Class and is also an auto squonker.

We haven’t reviewed the latter, but I have reviewed the YiHi SX Mini Mi Class pod kit – which I found a little on the lacklustre flavour side of things.

sxmini nano auto squonker vape kit review

I did buy the awesome and still very much used Q Mini – one of the best vape mods ever made in my humble opinion.

I’ve never really fancied the much loved G Class but would like to get my hands on the MX Class one day soon – in black if anyone’s reading this lol.

OK, SXmini is known for its ‘high end‘ vape devices and its direct competitor, I guess, would be Lost Vape. Whilst both companies do bring out pricey vape gear, they could be classed as the lower end of the high end vape market…if you catch my drift.

One thing I can say, and that’s my experience with the YiHi chip and menu can be a little frustrating – even using the Q Mini after all these years, I still get lost in there lol.

Let’s hope the menu on the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit is easier to navigate…for me any way.

What Can We Expect From the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit?

Automatic squonking is the obvious answer – hey – call me Captain Obvious.

This review was written some weeks ago but held in drafts waiting for the ‘RSA deck’….rebuildable squonking atomizer.

SXmini SX Nano Review stainless tell drip tip
SXMini SX Nano with stainless steel drip tip

I’ve put that in inverted commas, as it’s more pre-wrapped coils than an actual deck as you will see.

SXMini has also asked me to showcase the stainless steel drip tip – my original reviewer kit came with just a black plastic one. The company says the stainless steel one will be in the retail box and available to be purchased separately.

SXmini SX Nano Review stainless steel driptip

OK, so with the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk I hope to see great flavour, a great build quality and a good looking design.

I think we can tick the latter off, it does look very smart indeed.

Add to that, I’m pleased to to see airflow control, and whilst there’s only one choice of coil right now, there is another due to be released soon.

OK, scene set on with the review – for the record this was sent to me direct from SXmini – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies…

Inside the Box

No frills box – the retail version should also come with the dinky little SXmini bag…

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Specs and Features

  • Size: 87.4x39x17.9mm
  • Output: Not specified
  • Battery: 900mAh internal
  • E-liquid capacity: 2ml
  • USB Type C charging – 1A charge rate – 60 mins to full charge
  • YiHi SX681J chip
  • Flavour pre-sets

Key Features

As the name suggests, the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit automatically pumps e-liquid to your coil once the chip sensor recognizes the coil is too hot or dry. There’s also a manual over-ride should you feel more vape juice is required.

BTW, the fancy name for this auto squonking malarkey is: the ESS driver system [Electronic Spray Squonk].

sxmini nano driptip

The auto squonk mod is topped with the ADA-V2 [Auto Dripping Atomizer] which takes the disc shaped 0.6ohm ‘coil’. There’s two of those in the box, one already installed, and a 0.3ohm version is to be released soon. YiHi says there’s a chance a separate RSA atomizer may be released in the future.

SX-ADAv2 disc coils

There is airflow control on the ADA-V2 – I’ll look at how that affects the performance in a moment.

Incidentally, these coils are not compatible with the larger SXmini SX Auto.

SXmini SX Nano auto squonk kit disc coil

There’s no wattage control as such, instead there’s x3 ‘flavour pre-sets‘, and these are Cold – Normal and Warm – these are obviously a form of temperature control thanks to the YiHi SX681J chip.

warm reset

The kit is powered by an internal 900mAH battery and has fast USB Type C charging.

OK, before we get into the review, let’s get the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit set up and ready to vape.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit Quick Start Guide

  • x5 Clicks to turn on
  • x3 clicks of the fire button to lock and again to unlock
  • Remove e-liquid reservoir from side of the device and fill
  • Screw on the ADA V2
  • Press the fire button once – this will start the auto squonk – screen will state No Liquid
  • Once filled device will hold in a priming mode waiting for the coil to saturate
  • Press UP x1 to enter flavour/power presets
  • Scroll via up and down button and press fire button to select the chosen mode
  • Press Down button x1 to enter the Pump settings – adjust pump speed via up and down buttons
  • To manually squonk – press and hold Up button
  • To draw away excess e-liquid press and hold the Down button
  • x5 clicks of the fire button to enter configuration mode
  • Coils are push ‘n pull

Configuration modes are: Shutdown – Brightness – *Update – Exit and Help.

Note: each flavour pre-set setting has its own pump speed – however this can be altered if so wished.

pump up

You can’t over squonk either – at least I couldn’t – if you auto squonk, the device cuts out and stops pumping after a few seconds.

OK, it might all sound a little complicated on paper – but it really isn’t – if this old fool can suss it out you guys will have no issues lol.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Firmware Upgrade

The kit does have a firmware *upgrade option, V7, which is the mass production Firmware.

The manual was printed (in the version we received) prior to the firmware release.

In the review samples, the battery level now shows 100% when full and there’s an added auto lock feature.

Another important note regarding this firmware is:

  • When installing a new coil: Hold the fire button 1st time to get a No liquid notice.
  • Hold the fire button a 2nd time to initiate auto new-coil feeding operation.

Download the firmware upgrade HERE – link works for all SXmini devices, just choose the one you require.

Checkout the handy video for more information and how to upgrade the firmware:

It took me a few goes to actually get my device to connect…

What I can say is following the update – the Normal and Warm settings certainly bumped up a few degrees.

SXmini SX Nano RSA Deck

It’s not so much a deck as a set of pre-built and pre-wicked coils.

It’s a simple matter of removing the paper disc and coil from the housing and replacing it.

pre built coils sxmini

Rather than me banging on – here’s a very simple to follow video for swapping out the coils from SXMini:

So easy I did it…and I’m guessing the more nimble among us will easily re-wrap your own coils.

Design and Build Quality

SXmini is known for its high end vape gear and with that comes an expectation of stunning design and excellent build quality.

The SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit is most definitely a classy good looking set up and not at all ‘over fancified‘ as some of their previous mods I could mention.

SXmini SX Nano auto squonk kit design
with the black driptip

The device has ridges running around the whole mod and they match beautifully with the circular ones on the ADA-V2 – like I said this is a good looking set-up.

The SXmini logo is a little big – but not in your face, ideal for showing the world you vape on high end vape kits lol.

One thing to note is, the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit is a little wobbly when standing up on your desk or table. Mine has toppled a few times, however the paintwork is standing up so far.

Saying that and laying on its side overnight I had no leakage – the vape kit not me BTW…I ain’t that old yet!

Also to note is the finish, it has left the mod a little on the slippery side in your hand – but no biggie if you’re careful.

Both drip tips are proprietary and screw into the tank and are on the small size but I like them – even the new stainless steel version. However my OCD kicks in a little as there’s a perceivable gap between it and the 510…only tiny but it irks me lol.

gap
mind the gap

The buttons are slightly raised from the device – look great and are very clicky indeed with a nice throw to them as well.

The vape juice reservoir slots in and out easily enough, is easy to fill and there’s a spare in the box meaning you can have a couple of different e-liquids on the go.

fill reservoir

Build wise I’m guessing this is zinc alloy – it’s lightweight, but still manages to feel substantial in the hand if that makes sense.

sx nano colours

So, it looks good, with all the moving parts working well – so how does it vape?

How Does the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit Perform?

The short answer is very well indeed.

I’ve had absolutely no issues with the auto pump/squonk feature.

Given I know from experience that Yihi chip mnenus can shall we say, be a little deep and ponderous, the configuration options on the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit are refreshingly easy and straightforward.

pump up

So the big question is – how does the ADA-V2 and 0.6ohm disc coil perform?

SX-ADAv2 Atomizer disc coil

Let’s break it down into the x3 flavour presets.

For the test I’ve used x2 different e-liquids, a salt nic – the SuperGood Cocktail Selection Peach Belini – and to see if it could cope with higher VG vape juice, the Jungle Juice Lagoon Red Lagoon, bloody lovely stuff!

For the record, the ADA-V2 and coil managed both vape juices very well indeed, with no issues wicking the thicker vape juice.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Cold

The auto squonk pumps maxes at 40 – and you can’t go any higher – but you can of course go lower.

I wouldn’t use the word ‘cold’ to describe this preset – more lukewarm.

Flavour is decent too and bags of clouds – not bad at all.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Normal

This preset has the pump speed set at 40 – but you can go to the max of 50 or lower should you desire.

There’s the slightest – and I mean slightest – up in temp – but only a tad.

warm temp setting

Again the flavour is decent – not mind-blowing – but acceptable, and there’s once again plenty of clouds.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Warm

This time there’s a definite jump in temperature and the pump speed can move from 50 to 60 if that takes your fancy.

The flavour gets a jump too – however I’m going to have to put it in the good rather than amazing flavour zone.

Yes I can taste the usual flavour notes from my preferred e-liquid, but it’s not singing if you catch my drift.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Airflow

The air comes in from both sides of the ADA-V2.

There are x2 tiny pin holes both the same size.

airflow

With both open it’s an airy MTL vape with 10 being the airiest this is around an 8.5

One open and it’s around the 7.5 airiness scale lol.

I have shut both airflow ports off and if you like a very tight MTL vape that’s the one for you. Things did warm up and the flavours was slightly better – bonus!

My preferred setting is set on warm, with a pump speed of 50, and the single airflow pin hole closed half way off. A decent tight MTL vape with OK flavour and plenty of clouds.

Battery Longevity

Not good if I’m honest.

I’m guessing a combo of that pump and a small battery mAH is the key.

Fully charged and vaping for a little over 2.5 hours saw the battery drop to almost flat.

Ummm…

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Smart looking design
  • Auto squonk feature works well
  • Good simple easy to navigate menu
  • Flavour presets
  • Airflow options
  • Great clouds
  • Decent flavour
  • Good price
  • No leaks!
  • Good coil and battery longevity

Cons

  • Bit wobbly when stood up
  • Poor battery life

Final Review Verdict

Looking at the sheer amount of Pros outnumbering the Cons, you’d expect me to be raving about the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit… so am I?

It’s a bit of a Yes and No from me…yeah splinters on my ample arse from fence sitting lol…

It looks bloody beautiful and feels great in the hand. It’s easy to fill and operate – after a very quick learning curve – and there’s enough options to keep you happy.

Incidentally and even after the guys over at SXMini asked me to showcase the stainless steel and ultem driptip – I prefer using the plastic one…nothing but contrary me ha!

Anyway, including the option of buying pre-wrapped coils is a great addition too and will certainly save you a few quid in the long run.

Is the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonker Flavoursome?

Which brings me to the flavour off the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonker…

It’s certainly into the better side of good flavour wise and much better with the airflow almost shut off.

I have tried x2 different coils, and each one took a long time to break in, and each achieved the same flavour score.

As you can see I’ve also used the pre-wrapped coils and to be honest there was no real difference in flavour – definitely no drop which is a good thing.

Popping them in to the circular ‘deck’ can be a little fiddly but nothing too difficult.

I would certainly NOT put you off buying it, it’s decent enough flavour…but don’t expect to take this one out all day due to the battery life…

So, is this one you own or are thinking of buying?

Let me know your thoughts and comments in the comments below!

PS: SXmini says the kit was due to be released in December 2020 – at the time of writing this vape review [updated in January] I can’t see it for sale anywhere…I’ll update when I do.

The VandyVape Pulse 2 review and yet another squonker to add to the growing stable of Pulse devices.

The ‘Pulse’ line from VandyVape and Tony B first came to life back in 2017 and has clearly evolved over time.

VandyVape Pulse 2 review

Neil Humber got the ball rolling with the Vandy Vape Pulse BF Squonk Box Mod Review, a device which I still see for sale every now and then today, mainly due to its low cost and its ease of use.

Moving forward, we’ve had the Pulse 80w, this time including a chipset and a couple of extra features , but Vandy Vape and TonyB didn’t stop there.

A few short months after the release of the Pulse 80w, a Pulse X device was released with not a great deal more features, but an extra 10w and the capability of firing up to 90 watts.

If that wasn’t enough – Vandy Vape and TonyB went back to the drawing board and created a Dual Battery 220w version called the Pulse Dual Squonk Mod literally right after the lease of the Pulse X.

VandyVape Pulse 2 squonk mod review

Clearly… TonyB or Vandy Vape, or both aren’t happy. Yes.. A new version of the Pulse has been made!

History lesson Over – Lets Crack On and try out the Vandy Vape Pulse 2 Squonk Mod.

What Can We Expect From The VandyVape Pulse 2 Mod?

The Vandy Vape Pulse 2 is in effect, an updated single battery squonk mod designed to compete with the modern squonkers released since their last release of the Pulse back in December 2019.

Featuring VandyVapes very good water-proof Bluetooth chipset, Type-C USB Charge port and the ability to fire up to 95w thanks to housing a Single 21700 Battery.

VandyVape Pulse 2 squonker review

It seems this single battery squonker will tick all the right boxes, whilst keeping with the History of the Pulse.

Oh and did I mention is a ‘bottom filling’ squonk mod?

VandyVape Pulse 2 Design and Build Quality

I received the Obsidian Black version of the Pulse 2.

Panels which I really liked the look of on the Vandy Vape Swell Mod (Another TonyB Product) that I had the opportunity to try out back in July of last year.

VandyVape Pulse 2 panels

G10 is a fiberglass material that’s very strong and gives this device an extra layer of protection. The rest of the device is built up from ABS Nylon and of course the PCBA WaterProof Vandy Chip.

The two G10 Panels on each side are easily removable to expose the battery compartment and squonk bottle.

This is a surprisingly short device, considering it houses a single 21700 battery, its literally millimetres taller than the original Pulse BF Mechanical Squonk Mod.

Up top is a smart looking 510 base with some nice design engraved into it. But its at the base where I had to spend a little more time.

VandyVape Pulse 2 510 pin

At the base is a small cap that sits very flush with the device, a small latch which is held in magnetically is lifted which enables you to unscrew the cap and then fill or remove the squonk bottle.

VandyVape Pulse 2 base

An interesting idea which takes away the pain of having to remove the bottle completely just to re-fill.

VandyVape Pulse 2 In The Hand

Its generic box form factor may be a little off putting, however its a short and sweet device, and extremely lightweight.

VandyVape Pulse 2 in hand

As a thumb firer or a finger firer its comfortable in the hand and also fairly pocket friendly considering its a single 21700 squonker.

VandyVape Pulse 2 Display

The VandyVape chip supports all the expected modes, Wattage, Bypass, Voltage and Temperature Control.

The display itself is bright, crisp and large enough to read easily.

VandyVape Pulse 2 95w

There are a few functions to keep in mind if you’re thinking of picking up the VandyVape Pulse 2, along with a whole mobile phone app to learn if you fancy it.

VandyVape Pulse 2 Basic Operation

With a clicky fire button, and the usual up and down buttons, there are a few functions to consider..

Here’s the basic steps for operation:

  • Device On – 5 click of Fire Button
  • Device Off – 5 Clicks of Fire butto
  • Quick Menu – 3 Clicks Fire Button then up or down scrolls through power modes
  • Press & Hold Up/Down Buttons – Opens main menu
  • Press & Hold Fire & Up – Locks adjustment buttons. Still fires.
  • Press & Hold Fire & Down – Flips Screen

VandyVape Pulse 2 Main Menu

Within the main menu are some smart features.

The first option in the menu gives you the ability to add, or remove the features displayed on the main screen, including the option to add the ‘App’ feature.

menu

The following options allow you to alter Hibernation Time, Screen Brightness, Puff Count Reset, Colour displayed, Chip ID and a Master Reset Option.

I’m pleased to say the menu options are super simple to navigate and understand, and I’ve always liked the option to add or remove power mods.

If you’re a wattage only kind of person, its easy to remove all the other options which just makes life a little easier day to day.

VandyVape Pulse 2 Mobile App (Android Only at Present)

So its clear Apple doesn’t like vaping. Android on the other hand clearly want people to quit smoking, and perhaps use the VandyVape App to help them right?

squonk mod

Now the big bosses at Ecigclick might tell me off for this, but seeing as the chipset is identical to the Vand Vape Swell… I hope they don’t mind me copying and pasting my tutorial on navigating the Vandy App straight from my Swell review….Hehe

How To Use The VandyVape App

Yes an App! Here’s how to use it.

OK first off, get yourself onto the Play Store on an Android phone and download the ‘VandyVape’ app.

Here is a direct link to the Vandy Vape App.

Once downloaded, open it up and you’ll be asked to ‘Log-In’ or ‘Sign Up’

Of course once you’re signed up (using email and password) You’ll want to register your device.

Pair Your Device/Phone

The third tab from the left ‘My Device’ is where you can add your device, it’s very simple to pair the device with your phone, and within less than a minute I was ready to go.

Once fully paired, you’ll notice a little green tab at the top right, that shows that your phone is linked to the mod, and you’ll notice a small phone logo at the top right of your mod! Impressive.

It’s in the ‘My Device’ section that you can access all the lovely features of the App.

Find Device

This is clever stuff, and I can honestly say that it works, and it’s actually saved me.

The Anti-Loss function basically alerts you via phone notification if you have lost connectivity with the mod, and gone out of range, reminding you with an alert stating ‘Don’t forget your mod’.

Along with that, a dream of mine has been to press that big red button. And with this app you can!

Click the big red button and your mod will flash and beep – So if you’ve lost it down the sofa or behind the car seat, hopefully you’ll be able to hear it and save your precious mod.

Update Firmware

Back to the ‘My Device’ screen, and onto ‘Update’.

Tap that and you can find out if there is a new firmware version available, along with any UI updated – which it seems VandyVape will release whenever there us a national celebration going on.

Control

This is where you can make any adjustments, and fine tune your mod to fire exactly how you like it.

Of course you have all the same options as you have via the mod itself (Wattage, Voltage etc) so maybe it’s a little bit of a gimmick.

But for the geek in me, this is a fun thing to show your friends and play around with some clever settings.

Lets keep it simple, in Wattage mode.

If I adjust the wattage on the phone, the speed at which it alters the wattage on the device is almost instant. Super quick. And that’s the same for all changes you make. Very impressive.

I’m really impressed with the app as a whole – it’s very simple to use and navigate and everything is displayed nice and simply and cleanly.

Maybe a little pointless, but the Anti-Loss function in particular has come in handy on the odd occasion. Especially if you’re prone to leaving your device around the house, or at a friends!

How Does The VandyVape Pulse 2 Perform?

I’ve pretty much used this constantly with a Wotofo Profile RDA on top, of course in squonk mode. The beauty of this, the latest Pulse Device has to be thanks to the use of a 21700 battery.

This allows for much better battery life and at the usual 65w I vape the Profile RDA at, I’ve been getting very good life from this device.

The VandyVape Pulse 2 fires really well and really fast, especially with a mesh dripper on top. I’ve no real complaints with regards to the power output from this device.

However don’t expect to get much vape-time out of a single 21700 if you require the full 95 watts, and even less so if you plan on using the adaptor and making use of a single 18650 battery.

Because 95 watts out of a single 18650 just ‘Ain’t Gonna Happen’

With regards to using day to day, there are a few things I need to address.

To squonk, its actually a little awkward due to the bottle being a little more recessed within the device than I would Like.

Because of the position of the bottle as well, and the size of the mod you have to intentionally move your hand to position your thumb or finger in place to squeeze the bottle.

Now its not the end of the world, but with convenience always on my mind, its a little annoying that I have to constantly adjust my hands to squonk, and then re-adjust to fire.

The second issue comes down to the bottom filling feature with this device.

First things first, it actually works really well and super simple, it also creates a nice seal and I’ve had zero leaking from the VandyVape Pulse 2.

But the annoying problem I’ve faced is you cant turn this upside down and rest on its top without first removing the RDA from on top, which means you have to hold this device all the time whilst filling – or remove the RDA.

Because the 510 pin isn’t centred, placing the dripper face down basically means the device falls over, leaving a puddle of e-liquid at the base.

Doesn’t sound a big issue right? Here’s a scenario…

You’re walking down the street, you need to refill.

You pull your favourite e-liquid out of your pocket, turn the mod upside down and unscrew the cap.

You continue by unscrewing the bottle lid and plan to fill the bottle.

Holding a mod, a bottle of e-liquid, a cap and a bottle top all at the same time…. The end.

Yes, a little easier than also holding an empty squonk bottle, But re-filling a squonk mod doesn’t have to be this fiddly. There really are easier, more convenient ways.

Can the Pulse be your daily driver?

Pretty much yeah, its practical in the sense that its lightweight and reliable. The larger capacity battery also means you possibly wont need to carry spare batteries to last a working day in most cases.

The chipset is also easy to use and navigate. But that’s where the practicality ends.

The filling method is just a little painful at times, especially when on the move.

Does the Pulse v2 Squonk well?

Once you adjust your fingers, yes.

The bottle is that nice ‘firm but squishy’ style which means its squonks well and has a strong memory plastic which pulls the excess e-liquid back into the bottle very efficiently.

Pros

  • Strong, Durable Device
  • Decent Battery life in 21700 mode
  • Bright, Crisp Display
  • Simple to Navigate Menu
  • Squonks well
  • App is fast and easy to navigate

Cons

  • Filling requires 3 hands and 27 fingers
  • Formfactor makes squonking a little annoying

Final Review Verdict

This ‘refined‘ version of the Pulse definitely has some improvements over its predecessors that brings it up to date with most of the other single battery squonk mods that have been released this year and overall it does a good job.

I’ve done well not to mention this until the end, but for me its still no competition to the Dovpo Topside devices, and its filling method is more painful.

If you’re looking for a single battery squonker, the best filling method has come from the GeekVape Aegis Squonk mod, but being a single 18650 its limited.

So the VandyVape Pulse 2 may be an option for you.

The Dovpo Topside Lite Kit is the newest edition in the Topside line of squonking devices.

It’s another collaboration between Shenzen based company Dovpo and Brian, who is well known for The Vapor Chronicles YouTube channel.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Battery adaptor

Dovpo themselves have been manufacturers for the vape industry for almost fourteen years.

As well as releasing starter kits and pod systems, they’ve also designed atomizers such as the Blotto RDA. The Variant RDA is another and just so happens to come with the Kit under review today.

Brian and Dovpo has of course also released the Topside SQ and the Topside Dual – indeed the whole line has been very well received indeed.

What Can We Expect From The Dovpo Topside Lite Kit?

The kit takes its name from the material used to construct it.

The original Topside mod was made from zinc, aluminum alloy and stainless steel.

dovpo topside lite squonk kit review

This latest edition is composed of PCTG – polycarbonate – plastic, if you like – hence a very lightweight design.

What this, the Topside and Topside Dual all have in common is one thing.

They are all squonk devices and again, as the name suggests by way of a top fill system.

The Topside Lite now goes one step further by offering the ability to either squonk or use as a traditional box mod.

The following review is based on my own experiences of the product and may vary from your own should you decide to purchase.

Inside The Box

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Boxed

  • Topside Lite
  • Variant RDA
  • Battery cover
  • Micro USB cable
  • Accessories bag

The box doesn’t mention it but you also get instruction manuals for the mod and the RDA. There’s also a certificate of authenticity as well as a battery safety card.
Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Unboxing

Battery safety cards should be included with ALL devices that require external batteries, so a big thumbs up to Dovpo for that!

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit in boxThe mod is available as a standalone product and comes in black, red and silver colour renditions.

The Variant RDA can also be obtained separately and is available in black, silver and gunmetal colour schemes.

It’s also not mentioned on the box that a battery adapter is included inside the mod.

This is because the Topside Lite, while designed to use 20700 and 21700 batteries can also accommodate 18650.

Simply slip an 18650 battery inside the adapter and you’re good to go.

Design And Build Quality

Squonking can be traced back as far as 2009 with the creation of the REO mod.

They became readily available with the release of the Kanger Dripbox in early 2016.

The Topside Mod

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit branding
Another venture between Dovpo and TVC.

Even with an 18650 battery and the Variant RDA installed this is an impressively lightweight bit of kit!

Of course PCTG and clear polycarbonate go a long way in influencing this yet nothing looks cheap or tacky. Design quality has really been thought out on the Topside Lite.

The polycarbonate on the squonk section is extremely strong and durable, and it’s walls are also substantially thick.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Squonk section

The squonk bottle itself can hold a whooping 10ml of e-liquid, and is made of soft silicon and is very pliable.

A pleasant change from some of those brittle plastic ones that are prone to crack.

Dovpo Topside Lite – Making A Connection

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit inside the squonk section
Inside the squonk section showing female connector at the top

There is one very strong magnetic contact at the base of the squonk section.

Another two smaller ones can be found either side of the squonk connector at the top.

All three unite to ensure a very strong connection between section and mod.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit fill poert and 510 connector

The threads on the squonk cap are very smooth and easy to work. In fact there are so many of them there really is no need to over-tighten.

Although the two fill ports are able to accommodate all nozzle sizes, I would still recommend you take your time when administering e-liquid.

It’s possible to remove the squonk bottle by releasing two small screws either side of the fill cap.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit squonk release screws

The male squonk connector can be found on the battery section of the mod.

The upper battery contact is a little stiff but being spring loaded will provide a good rattle free connection.

The battery sled has the positive and negative positions molded within the inner plastic wall.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit male squonk pin

An ingenious method of alignment and magnetic grip has been employed to ensure a seamless connection.

I’m extremely impressed with how effectively this works. Excellent design work!

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit male pin with rubber seal
It’s the perfect marriage of male to female when connecting squonk section to battery.. wish my marriage was as good! lol

A rubber seal surrounds the inner threads on the male connector. This will ensure a leak free performance while squonking.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit male squonk pin

As you can imagine this male connecting pin is very small. It needs to be removed when using the kit in the traditional box mod form – try not to lose it!

Thankfully, Dovpo has provided two replacements in the spares bag, along with spare screws should you require them.

Dovpo Topside Lite – In Traditional Box Mod Mode

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit conversion plate
To squonk or not to squonk. That is the question!

This is where the Topside Lite kit really shines! You want versatility? You got it!

Simply remove the male squonk pin, squonk section and replace with this conversion door.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit replacement door and seal
A small rubber stopper seals off the female squonk pin when aligned.

The Topside Lite genuinely looks like a completely different kit with the conversion door installed!

Offering a compact design that looks and feels perfect for A 90W device!

Variant RDA

It comes packed with the following.

  • Variant RDA
  • Screw driver
  • Spare screws
  • User Manual
  • Spare O rings

The instruction manual, although in full colour consists of just two pages.

It fails to describe how to install the dual coils. I guess as with most RDAs you’re expected to have sufficient knowledge.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Vatiant RDA

There are a total of sixteen airflow slots, eight either side in line with the coils and in a vertical position.

By turning the top cap there are numerous airflow configurations to chose from, both vertical and horizontal.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Variant RDA aiflow

The variant RDA is 24mm in diameter and is very well suited to the Topside lite kit. It’s both lightweight and compliments the black fascia and panels of the mod perfectly.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Variant RDA inner barrel design

The Inner barrel shows the intricate nature of the airflow patterns available. These will range from an airy open vape to a very restrictive direct to lung.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Variant RDA 510pin
A little more branding and a peak insulated 510 pin

Dovpo Topside Lite Build Deck

The four posts of the deck have been raised and angled inwards. Featuring flat head screws and sizeable post holes there’s plenty of scope for coil sizes.

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Variant RDA squonk pin

With those posts being raised it’s relatively easy to snip the leg excess from underneath.

The large flat head screw at the heart of the deck acts as the squonk pin.

Tighten it down when using in traditional dripping mode and loosen it to allow squonking duties. There’s no need to swap anything out!

Mmm…not too sure if I like the idea of moving parts inside the deck but there’s less chance of mislaying a valued pin, I guess.

How Does The Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Perform?

Let’s begin by building on the Variant dual coil RDA.

I opted to use two 2.5mm inner diameter 0.4ohm Wotofo fused Clapton Ni80 coils. These usually give me tremendous flavour with little ramp up time.

The raised, angled posts meant that it was very easy to eyeball the leg length needed – the large post holes helped with my failing eyesight lol. Within seconds they were installed!

Dovpo Topside Lite Kit Variant RDA coil build

NB: If you plan to run the kit in squonk mode it’s a good idea to loosen the deck pin first, you only need to give it a few turns.

There’s a deep juice well to accommodate the juice entering from below and ample room for generous amounts of wicking due to the raised position of the coils.

Variant RDA wicking

Once the Variant RDA had been built on I applied generous amounts of e-liquid across the cotton in the traditional dripping manner just to help things along.18650 battery converterSince I’m currently not in possession of any 20700 or 21700 batteries I was able to take advantage of the included 18650 adapter.

Filling The Topside Lite In Squonk Mode

I’ve only used squonk devices a few times in the past.

My experiences have shown them to be very fiddly to work with.

Having to remove the bottle, fill and then ensure the supply tube is firmly connected always meant juice all over my hands.

You can probably imagine my relief using the Topside Lite top fill method!

filling

  • Unscrew the squonk cap counter clockwise to release.
  • Squeeze juice into either fill port until desired level is reached.
  • Screw the squonk cap clockwise back into place. Do not over tighten.

By pouring juice down one fill port, the corresponding port will release any air pressure created.

Always a bonus!

Button functions

Although the screen display is monochrome it’s very crisp, vibrant and clear to read.

You can expect it to go dim after fifteen seconds of inactivity.

After three minutes of inactivity the device will power down completely.

screen display
Below the battery venting port are the menu buttons. The left (-) button and the right (+) button.

Five rapid clicks of the fire button will switch the Topside Lite on.

A further five clicks will switch the device off, it’s the usual drill.

Using The Menu Functions

  • To enter the menu hold the fire and – button at the same time.
  • Use the + button to scroll through options.
  • Press the fire button to enter the sub menu.

You are given the option to change the following parameters:

  • Power
  • Bypass
  • Temp Nichrome, Temp Titanium and Temp Stainless Steel
  • TCR
  • Stats
  • Exit

To lock the Dovpo Topside Lite press + and – together. Repeat the process to unlock.

While the device is in locked mode press the + button rapidly three times to enter stealth mode. The screen is disabled but the device can still be used.

A further three clicks of the + button will take you out of stealth mode.

To prevent the fire button from accidentally working you can disable it by pressing it three times in rapid succession. Repeating the process will enable it once again.

The Bit You’ve All Been Waiting For..Or Have Skipped To!

How’s the kit for flavour?

To be completely honest I feel a bit let down by the flavour from the Variant RDA.

Don’t get me wrong. It produces but had a tendency to bring out more of the sweetness of any juice tested.

The Variant certainly performs better with fruit profiles than bakery or custard ones.

Menthol and coolada ranges often lacked the sharpness and associated throat kick, they felt somewhat dull and lifeless on the exhale.

Compared to other squonking RDAs on the market the Variant can only be classed as average.

You won’t quite get the carefully balanced blends and nuances that leading juice manufacturers create these days.

Squonking
Squonking is a sinch with the Topside Lite!

I tested the Variant in all airflow positions and concluded that the best setting for flavour and cloud production was with the four bottom pin holes open.

This pulled the airflow under and around those coils most effectively.

There’s next to no restriction to be found with airflow wide open. Still an incredibly smooth and quiet vape but the flavour certainly suffers.

As for cloud production, it doesn’t disappoint! Dense, billowing white clouds for days, bro! No issues here at all.

At no time did I witness any turbulence and in general I received a nice warm vape at the 65W setting deployed.

It did of course become warm/hot when vaped at higher power levels but the heat never transferred to the polycarbonate body.

Dovpo Topside Lite Battery Life and Charging

There’s no two ways around it. You’re always going to get a preferred battery performance from either a 21700 or 20700 battery when using the Topside Lite Kit.

Since I tend to use 18650’s and Dovpo were kind enough to include an adapter I tested battery performance this way.

Under moderate use and vaping at 65W I managed to get just under four hours life from my 3000 mAH single cell.

When chain vaping it dropped to around two and a half.

Battery drain became significantly noticeable when the indicator bar was showing around 50% or less. Voltage and wattage were dropping like a stone.

..lest we forget circuit protection. Always thankful for that!

The vape quality remained consistent up to the point of replacing the battery.

charge cable

Internal Charging

Most experienced vapers will attest that charging an external battery within a device is not ideal.

I agree, but for once I tested for grins and giggles.

You can bring a depleted battery back to full fitness in two hours using the supplied USB cable.

I was able to note that the battery failed to hold its charge as efficiently. It took literally a few vapes before the indicator bar dropped a notch.

More disturbingly, during charge the upper area of the polycarbonate body became warm to the touch. Maybe another reason to rely solely on external units!

Moderate vaping resulted in around three hours use from the device. An hour less than by charging in a more efficient (and safer) way.

Proof, if needed that it’s always best to use a dedicated external charging device.

Other Observations

Juice window
It’s very easy to see juice levels through the semi transparent silicon bottle.

The male and female connectors of the squonk remained bone dry throughout the testing period which was very impressive.

Removing the squonk section to replace a battery was seamless! Those magnetic contacts really work a treat.

Filling the bottle was an absolute walk in the park and my fingers remained juice free. A rarity for me! lol

There’s usually a Negative Neil lurking and this time it takes the form of the fire button itself. When the device becomes idle it can sometimes take a few clicks to wake it.

It plays no importance when firing to vape but response times overall are merely average. Maybe to be expected from a single cell mod.

display in direct sunlight
The screen display responds very well in direct sunlight.

Pros

  • Lightweight design thanks to PCTG and polycarbonate material
  • Extremely easy to switch between RDA and squonk mode options
  • Squonk connecting pins remain bone dry. No leaking
  • Easy to read screen even in direct sunlight
  • Viewable juice levels through semi transparent squonk bottle

Cons

  • Fire button unresponsive when in idle mode (subjective con)
  • Variant RDA not the best match (average flavour)
  • Plastic fascia prone to scratching

Final Review Verdict

I’m extremely impressed with everything about the Dovpo Topside Lite.

The design and build quality is immaculate and everything just works!

From the marriage of the squonk connectors, ease of squonking itself and the ability to switch vape modes in seconds, everything combines to make this the perfect device.

Personally I would have preferred to see a different RDA with the kit – a single coil RDA would be more compatible for the 90W output.

Of course this can easily be remedied by using one of your own so no real biggy!

The Kit is able to handle tank sizes of up to 26mm diameter. That’s just another sign of the total versatility on offer.

Indeed, versatility is the major player here.

Who Would I Recommend The Dovpo Topside Lite Kit To?

Without doubt an intermediate and preferably advanced vaper that has good battery safety knowledge. Using a single 18650 means that you’re handling them quite often when using the Variant RDA.

This version of the Topside is also somewhat cheaper than its “variants” (sorry!) making it ideal for the first time buyer.

In fact the Dovpo Topside Lite Kit is the perfect introduction into the world of squonking, and without the hassle of constantly removing the bottle.

Geek Vape need little by way of introduction. They are among the most well known of vape manufactures. Over the last few years they have cultivated a great name for themselves for innovation.

Geek Vape aegis collection
Geek Vape Aegis line up

One of their most successful and popular ranges is the Aegis line of mods. The original Aegis 26650, Aegis Legend, Aegis Mini, Aegis Solo and Aegis X and now they’ve added a new one to the range!

What can we expect from the Aegis Squonker Kit by GeekVape?

After weeks of anticipation I was quite literally chomping the bit to get my hands on this one!Geek Vape Squonker in hand

Geek Vape have released the Kit in 6 different colours, all the mods have the same IP67 rating for waterproofing as well as being dustproof and shockproof!

More on those points later in the review.

The device will fire up to 100w with the fast AS-100 chipset and runs on a single 18650.

The unit comes with a 10ml (2ml TPD) soft silicone bottle pre installed; and features a handy top fill that couldn’t be simpler to use.

You can change the back panel to make it into a standard 1 battery mod, the blanking panel is not included in the retail version.

Really what you have here is a 2 in 1 vape kit.

The Tengu RDA is included with the kit, a great little 24mm dual coil RDA. It’s basically the same as the one I reviewed earlier in the year with a slight change to the airflow system!

So is Squonking up your ally or something you’d like to try?

Let’s go take a detailed up and close look at the Geek Vape Aegis Squonk kit.

This kit was kindly sent to us for review, like always my thoughts and views on this product are my own after a considerable testing period.

Tengu Dual Coil RDA

I won’t be covering the RDA in great detail as you can find my full review for the Tengu review for the Geekvape Tengu RDA here. I will say that the Tengu is top quality RDA with a great design that features a velocity style deck and deep 6mm juice well.

Made of stainless steel, ultem a gold plated stainless steel bottom feed pin is pre installed.tengu rda and aegis squonk

The RDA has a 24mm diameter and overall height of 28mm. The Tengu will dismantle into 3 main parts for easy cleaning.Geek Vape tengu rda parts

Airflow

A slight change has been made to the airflow system since my full review.

The outer airflow is still handled by 13 X 1mm holes on each side of the barrel but Geek Vape have updated the airflow ring. It is now part of the barrel mechanism, my opinion is the airflow action is now much smoother and more precise.barrel

Aegis Squonker

The Aegis Squonker measures in at 86.4mm tall, 41.2in width with a diameter of 31.5mm and is made from a light durable zinc-aluminium alloy that is covered by a waterproof and dustproof rubber coating.Geek Vape Squonker Kit moda

I would say the overall design is very well done and the manufacturing quality is top notch.

Starting from the top down

The device has a stainless steel 510 connection with very good threading and a gold plated static squonk connection pin.

The stainless steel connection surround has a silicone stopper around the threading, this is to help stop liquid from leaking into the connection when in standard mode, it’s also an added measure of water protection.510 connection

The fill port has a silicone membrane and is located on the top of the device under a slide cover.Aegis Squonk Kit port fill

The back side of the device holds the silicone bottle with a spare is in the box.

To remove the bottle for replacement or cleaning or to change to the blanking plate, you will need to undo the 2 upper most hatch screws on either side of the device.silicone squeeze bottle

The bottom of the device has a round screw battery door, rather like that of the Aegis Solo.

The screw door has a lift up section; it can be difficult to undo and re screw into position as it is rather tight due to the O’ring. This is needed for water protection though.battery door

The battery is placed positive down as shown by the red cross inside the compartment.Inside battery compartment

The control face has a single power button and two adjustment buttons; which have a nice click. The monochrome screen shows vape data vertically and the brightness of the screen is fair but can be hard to see in direct sunlight!geek vape aegis squonk mod oled screen

Opening the airflow up fully and pumping the wattage up to first 45w and then 60w, was a great direct to lung experience for me. Flavour wise it was yummy the vapour production was nice and warm at 60w.Geek Vape Squonker Kit window seal

More wattage – yeah go on!

Starting again at 65w then working up to 90w.

If anything the flavour intensified while the vapour became very thick and cloudy albeit quite hot. The RDA did get very warm but the Tengu cools quite quickly.

I tried 95 and 100w but these values became too much for my poor old micro lungs! The flavour was still very good and the vapour production was great! I filled my small office within minutes!Kit in hand

Using TC mode with SS316L, the mode seem to function adequately at 420f.

I have settled now on between 50 and 60w depending on the coils and liquid!OLED screen

Aegis Squonker Kit – A few notes

The mod is very comfortable and light to hold compared with some other squonk mods.Squonk bottle full

The fire time with the AS-100 chipset is very fast they say 9ms. The battery life at 55w lasts me around 2 3/4 hours! Which is fairly good in my book considering this is a single battery mod!

“My opinion only” but the battery life would be increased considerably had Geek Vape allowed provision for a 21700 battery.

Is the Geek VApe Aegis Squonk Kit Waterproof & Shockproof?

When I was asked to do some stress tests I just gulped as I didn’t want to ruin the mod if I could help it as it’s a bloody nice kit.

Geek Vape state the mod is waterproof at 1 meter for 30 minutes!

I dropped the mod only in a bucket of water for 15 minutes with the battery  and the squonk panel in place.dunk test

Result

Just as I was expecting. No water damage, the IP67 waterproofing does its job as does the battery door, the mod fired fine after the dunking.is Geek Vape aegis Squonker Kit waterproof

Geek Vape also say the mod is dust proof I have no way of testing this, if I ever do a test I will add an addendum to this review!

Geek Vape say the mod is shockproof against accidental dropping!

I dropped the mod from hip high onto a stone path! With the battery in place and the blanking panel. I didn’t want to run the risk of not squonking again chicken I am!

I dropped the mod 3 times!

Result

Only slight cosmetic damage to the blanking panel which was such a relief LOL!

How well the plastic panel would hold up at a different height or with a more force full throw is anyone’s guess. Although previous Aegis models have performed admirably when thrown about.

The mod fired fine after the shock it received. Geek Vape aegis Squonker Kit test drop 2Geek Vape Squonker Kit test drop 2

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Good design
  • Handy top-fill system
  • Soft bottle, excellent capacity
  • Excellent power mode performance
  • Clear easy to read display

 Cons

I don’t have any real big concerns with the Geek Vape Aegis kit but if pushed I’d say:

  • The squonk and blanking plates could have benefited from magnets
  • Battery size

Final Review Verdict

I don’t use squonk mods on a regular basis normally just evenings!

Finally a squonk mod I can be proud to carry around with me without weighing me down. It’s comfortable to hold and has a great liquid capacity!

The only thing that might be a slight concern is the battery life. I would have preferred Geek Vape to have made provision for a 21700 battery.

Would I Recommend the Geek Vape Aegis Squonker Kit?

Yes I would! For someone like myself who tends to drop things a lot, there is very little chance of damaging this kit.

Would I buy the Geek Vape Aegis Squonk Kit again due loss or damage?

Again yes I would.

Did you buy the Geek Vape Aegis Squonk Kit? We would love to hear what you thought in the comments below.

I could quite easily make this Wotofo Dyadic review a direct comparison to another well known Dual 18650 Squonk Mod. But no! I refuse to mention any other Dual 18650 Squonk mod in this review. Its on the tip of my tongue, but I won’t say it!

Wotofo Dyadic squonk reviewSo Wotofo, who generally aren’t best known for making some cracking RBA’s, have teamed up with Mr Tony B. The man responsible for the Vandy Vape Pulse line, some nice looking Artery Products, and recently the very smart Vandy Vape Swell Kit, which I really enjoyed and gave a strong 8 out of 10.

For those wondering what Dyadic means, it’s simply a group of two..

What Can We Expect From The Dyadic by Wotofo?

If it wasn’t for the fact a ‘Top-filling’ squonk mod has already been designed, manufactured and released, the Dyadic right now would be seen as an extremely innovative device! A side-filling squonker, with a nice colourful screen and removable panels.

But there are a lot of nice features to this device, along with a couple of negatives.

So let’s Crack on and see what the Wotofo Dyadic is all about…

Dyadic colour options

Design and Build Quality

I received the Black version of the Dyadic, which is more of a Matt black than a gloss.
base of the Wotofo Dyadic

The Dyadic

510 Connector:

The Dyadic’s 510 connection is located to one end of the top of the mod, and you can fit up to a 25mm Diameter RDA before you notice any overhang. There is a little spring to the 510 connection, however it is a little stiff when you first use it.510 threading - Wotofo Dyadic

The Front of the Device

Well, the front of the device, is actually really on the side. With a big chunky fire button at the top which has the same smooth feel that the 2 panels have, it’s a little firm to press, but clicks nicely.

Below that is a fairly large 0.96inch colour screen, which is nice, clear and bright. It doesn’t give much information, but then this device is pretty simple with regards to options so it does what it needs to do.

front of Wotofo Dyadic squonkerAs the bottom is your adjustment buttons and the USB port below.

Micro USB Port:

The Micro USB port located at the bottom of the ‘Face’ of the mod is ideally to only be used for firmware upgrades, however you can use it for charging if you get desperate. But I don’t personally recommend it. Always best to use an external charger such as the Golisi S6. charging the Wotofo Dyadic mod

The Panels

The Dyadic has 2 removable panels, which click quite nicely onto the device itself thanks to its strong magnets, once you line them up right, and they’re coated in something which makes them nice and smooth.

removable panelsOne panel will expose the squonk bottle and filling port, the other panel houses the battery compartment.

Battery Compartment

Clearly marked Positive and Negative and with some lovely self adjusting pins, it’s simple enough to fit your batteries, and the included battery ribbon makes it a lot easier to remove the batteries.

How long the ribbon will last before snapping off is something I always worry about however.battery compartment

The Bottle

Hidden behind one of the removable panels is the 8.5mm Squonk bottle, its nice and squidgy but could possibly do with being a little firmer – if that makes sense.
squonk bottle Wotofo DyadicThe 2 bottles included in the kit are 2 different shades, one is darker than the other. And unless you’re using a very dark liquid, you’re really not going to see your e-liquid level.

Which is a shame, so I generally made use of the spare bottle, which is a lighter shade and you can see your liquid level a little better.

Of course you can take the bottle apart and on the ‘top side’ of the bottle, is a little rubber bung which you can pull out, but not remove – and fill the bottle.spare squonk bottle for the Wotofo Dyadic

The Mod – Overall:

It’s a fairly nicely planned out mod, surprisingly small for a dual 18650 squonk mod when you take into consideration it contains 2 x 18650 batteries, an 8.5ml bottle and a large colour screen. Impressive!

In The Hand

Is it possible this mod isn’t for left handed vapers? Because I’ll be honest, as I sit here typing, with my right hand in charge of the mouse, and my left hand in charge of vaping, I’m struggling to use the Dyadic with my left hand.

Wotofo Dyadic squonk mod in handPurely because in order to fire the device, you need to use your thumb – leaving your fingers on the wrong end of the mod to squonk! Annoying.

Regardless of this minor, yet annoying problem, the Wotofo Dyadic is super, super comfortable to hold. Its perfectly curved at each end, and it feels nice and comfortable.

Of course its better in the right hand as your fingers are perfectly placed for squonking.

Being so compact for a 200w squonk mod I’m massively impressed with how the Dyadic feels in the hand and its not really that heavy.size of the Wotofo Dyadic mod in palm of hand

Filling The Squonk Bottle.

  1. Remove the side panel
  2. Open the rubber bung
  3. Fill with desired e-liquid
  4. Re-fit rubber bung and panel

Simple right? In essence it’s simple enough, and in practice, generally it’s easy too.

However ask yourself, how many times do you ever fill any type of bottle, from the side?

filling the Wotofo DyadicA number of times when filling this mod, I’ve had major leakage, and not from overfilling – but if you don’t get that fill angle right, it squirts back out at you. Similar to when filling your car with fuel. If you don’t get that angle right, the petrol pump clicks shut and you have to try again.

It’s not exactly painstaking, but it can be a little annoying. So as much as its a new way to fill a squonk bottle, in practice its just not as convenient and simple as… another Squonker which is available…

side fill port on the Wotofo DyadicThe Dyadic squonks beautifully and pulls the e-liquid back as well as I would expect so I have no concerns there.

How Does the Wotofo Dyadic Kit perform?

Basic operation

The Front screen shows:

  • Wattage
  • Coil Resistance
  • Voltage
  • A and B Battery Capacity
  • Mode Setting (Standard, Powerful, Powerful+)

The Menu

Theres a small number of button sequences to remember to operate this device:

  • 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
  • Press Fire Button and + button will change from Standard, Powerful and Powerful+ modes.
  • Press + and – buttons to lock/unlock all buttons

Standard Mode (Green)

Simply put, when you press the fire button, the device will fire to your desired wattage settingWotofo Dyadic OLED screen

Powerful Mode (Orange)

This is the same as Standard mode, however the device will put an additional 10w output through the coil for the first 2 seconds which may help with ramp up timespowerful mode orange

Powerful+ Mode (Red)

As above, but this time, you get an extra 15watts of power for the first 2 seconds.

Is the mode options noticeable? In my time with the Dyadic, the difference is minimal but there is certainly a difference between Standard and Powerful+

powerful mode redOther than that, there is no other menu options to worry about. Extremely simple.

Battery Life

The battery life is comparable to any other Dual 18650 mod I’ve used. Vaping at around 75-80w you get a good days battery life out of the Dyadic, considering the full colour screen thats pretty good.

Durability

I have no major concerns over the durability of this device. It’s highly probable the panels are going to take a beating and you may consider picking up a spare set of panels long term. Thats assuming that you’ll be able to pick up the panels on their own.

exploded view of the Wotofo Dyadic

Pros

  • Extremely comfortable
  • Very compact for a dual 18650 Squonk
  • Bright, Clear Screen
  • Super Simple to operate
  • Hits hard in Powerful+ Mode

Cons

  • Removable panels can be a little fiddly
  • Side-fill bottle isn’t easy to fill at times
  • Cant see e-liquid level with dark bottle
  • Lack of functions may be a con to some?
  • Not as simple to use in your left hand
  • One-ended 510 limits RDA Diameter

Final Review Verdict

I cant hold it in anymore! Sorry.

Is it as good as The Dovpo Topside Dual? Ive said it! Happy now.

Ergonomically its better – possibly the most comfortable mod I’ve ever used. Especially considering the 2 batteries and 8.5ml bottle inside. The panels are nice and smooth and it just feels right in the hand.

And the right hand is where it works best, which is a shame because flipping it onto your left hand causes minor operation issues.

Moving on to the side-fill system. It works just fine, but its just not as simple and convenient as The Dovpo TopSide system.

The new S2 mechanical ‘style’ squonk mod is a collaboration between Augvape and high-end squonking team Mass Mods.

Mass Mods hail from California USA and have released a couple of devices, namely the CS1 mechanical squonker and the UA1 unregulated parallel mod – both around the $200 mark – as well as the Axial RDA.
s2 squonker in hand
Augvape are obviously from China and have upped their vape game considerably over the last few years with on the whole extremely well received atomizers and mods including the:

Occular RDA [above] – my go to dripper the BTFC – whilst the Druga Foxy is a stunning mod and the V200 styled on the Honda B VTEC engine, looked the part and performed very well indeed.

So What Can We Expect From the S2 Squonker?

Despite the S2 having MOSFET protection, this is still a mechanical mod and should only be used by advanced vapers with knowledge of Ohms Law – I’ll tackle this in a moment.

This is a single 18650 device with no menu or power selection and comes with just one 8.5ml squonk bottle, and most 25mm squonk ready atomizers will fit with no overhang.

Not a lot more to say really apart from this was sent to me free of charge for the purpose of this review directly from Augvape – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are unmoved by freebies.

Inside the Box

s2 squonker box

Not a lot in there at all!

  • x1 S2 squonk mod
  • x1 warranty card
  • x1 8.5ml squonk bottle

s2 contents

Specs and Features

  • Single 18650 battery
  • Mechanical ‘style’ output
  • MOSFET protection
  • 8.5ml capacity
  • Gold plated contact points
  • Suitable for 25mm and below squonk atomizers

Key Features

OK this is classed as a mechanical ‘style’ mod – in other words, there is a little bit of protection.

In this case, its MOSFET protection – you can see the insulated wires running from the inside of the switch to the board below – which I assume has been treated to resist any liquid getting inside.

s2 squonker internals

As regulars know I’m the least technical among the EcigClick team and a quick Google showed me that a MOSFET is:

The MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) transistor is a semiconductor device which is widely used for switching and amplifying electronic signals in the electronic devices. The MOSFET is a three-terminal device such as source, gate, and drain.

The things you learn doing vaping reviews 😉

OK, the technicalities aside, the rest of the device is self-explanatory to anyone who has used – uses or knows about squonkers and squonking.

In simple terms, you use an RDA with a squonk pin inserted and once attached to the mod you squeeze the bottle to juice up the cotton and coils.

s2 squonk door

So, unlike a dripper which you drip onto the coils – with a squonker its bottom-fed – hence many RDAs that are squonk friendly known as BF.

As this is pretty much an unregulated device, there’s no menu, just a fire button. You have NO control over wattage, instead the remaining voltage within the battery decides how much power is getting to your coils.

To this end, this type of device is NOT suitable for beginners. Indeed it is crucial that anyone using a fully mechanical or even semi-regulated mechanical mod fully understands Ohms Law.

Design and Build Quality

The S2 is the spitting image of the Mass Mods high-end squonker – we’re talking $200 – the only real difference being the level of protection inside. The S1 had a Capacitive safety feature which is explained as having a:

…sensor that relies on the electrical properties of the human body to detect when the button is being touched and/or pressed.

It also had a LED battery indicator, but apart from the internals and board, they look identical.

I really do like the design and feel of this one – very minimalist so bang on my style of mods.

The Mass Mods logo is on one of the removable doors whilst the Augvape logo looks particularly badass stamped into the side.

augvape logo

It’s made from a combo of some kind of alloy for the doors, whilst the shell is a high-quality plastic and despite being x2 different materials they look exactly the same.

The doors are magnetized with a tight fit that’s extremely solid with absolutely no movement, unless you’re holding it by the sides when squonking as the back panel can push out. However like I said you have to hold it in a weird way for that to happen!

The fire button has a very nice throw to it…more on that in a moment.

s2 fire button

Overall this is an extremely comfortable mod to hold and use, with excellent materials and a decent overall build quality – cheap to touch this isn’t.

Lovely clean internals too, including very visible + and – signs for your battery. The wires are exposed and whilst sealed they do feel a little thin for want of a better word and may snag and come loose if you are a little hamfisted. Had they have been covered things would have looked a lot tidier and felt a little sturdier.

s2 internals 1

How Does the Mass Mods and Augvape S2 Perform?

No issues whatsoever with the 510 with all my 25mm and below RDAs fitting perfectly, and it feels solidly screwed in too with an o-ring adding a little bit of protection from any leaks.

s2 510

The squonk bottle is slightly recessed which has you reaching for it, not really an issue.

The bottle is excellent quality and you do need to give it a hard press, so floppy this one isn’t.

squonk bottle

I also like the bottle cap, which might sound a bit weird. It looks as if they’ve purposely created a kind of well to catch any wayward e-liquid.

squonk well

It is very tight in there and despite both doors coming off, the battery sled has a back to it and trust me even with fingernails it can be a sod getting your battery out! Could be just my batteries though.

tight internals

The fire button whilst having a very nice throw to it does I’m afraid, have the slightest, and I mean slightest, ramp up delay – only a tad but instant firing this one isn’t.

I’ve been using this one solidly for over 2 weeks and have had no leaks or any other issues with it and with a conservative 0.21ohm build on the Augvape Occular RDA, I’ve been getting 3 to 4 hours solid vaping.

Please note: If you are carrying spare batteries around – please keep them in a battery condom or plastic case – NEVER put loose batteries in your pocket.

Pros

  • Great minimalist design
  • Excellent build quality
  • Very comfortable in the hand
  • Superb squonk bottle
  • Hits well – once ramped up!
  • MOSFET protection

Cons

  • A 20700 battery option would have been better
  • Slight delay in firing
  • Board is open to juice leaks
  • No spare squonk bottle
  • Just black available at the moment

Final Review Verdict

First up, the elephant in the room!

Yeah, I guess this style of squonk mod is a little last year, however, trust me it blows the Pulse series of mech squonkers out of the water for looks, build quality and to some extent performance.

I say some extent, that slight delay on the ramp up time is a little annoying but you soon compensate your vaping style – I give it a couple of pulses and purges to get the coils glowing.

What I can say is even now the review is done and dusted, this one is probably going to be one of my go-to mods for quite some time to come – especially when out and about.

I really do like it that much – and it really is comfortable in the hand – light but tough too.

I would have liked a spare squonk bottle in the box – I have tried a couple of mine and none fit properly.

So yup, it might be a little dated, but if you’re looking for great design – superb build quality at an excellent price, I highly recommend this one as both a beater mod or indeed one to enjoy down the pub.
