1. Innokin Zlide (Editors Choice)

zenith 2 colours
One of the latest mouth to lung vape tanks from this vape giant is the Innokin Zenith 2. A collaboration with two of the best known vape reviewers (Phil Busardo and ‘The Vaping Geek’ aka Dimitris Agrafiotis) this is one of the easiest tanks to get to grips with.

This tank has all the features you would want from the easy top fill to the easy and clean coil swap. This updated Zenith tank also includes 2 new features. Removable glass, for easy cleaning, and an improved airflow control that offers a great MTL (Mouth to Lung) and RDL (Restrictive Direct Lung) vape.

The coils can handle a variety of e-liquid PG/VG ratios and the most important thing, the flavour is very good. While it comes with two coils in the kit there are a number of other coil options you can buy separately so you can be sure to find a vape just right for you.

It also looks great and has superb build quality, something that tends to come as standard with Innokin products.

Features

  • 2 Coils included
  • Simple top fill and easy swap coils
  • Excellent build quality

2. Aspire Nautilus GT Mini (Best For Flavour)

nautilus gt mini feature imageNow we really love the Aspire Nautilus range of vape tanks and the GT Mini is a great addition to the line up. From the design to the performance this ticks all the boxes. It’s a beauty.

Not only does it give you an easy top fill (no poking an e-liquid bottle tip through a tiny hole) it also allows for a change of coils with e-liquid still in the tank.

The 22mm diameter Nautilus GT Mini offers a great mouth to lung vape with the coil options available. On last count there were around 9 compatible coils from the Aspire range so you should have no problem picking up a pack from most stores.

As with most Aspire tanks, flavour is on point as well.

Features

  • 2 Coils included (1X 1.6ohm and 1X 0.7Ohm Mesh)
  • Huge range of compatible coils
  • Great flavour
  • Coils can be changed with e-liquid still in tank
  • Easy top fill

3. Jacvapour S22 Tank (Best for MTL and DTL Vape Options)

Best MTL Vape Tank - JAC VApour S22The Jacvapour S22 tank is a new release by the team at JAC Vapour and a very good one at that.

It’s a no nonsense design that is built to last. The S22 has a top fill design that allows you to change your juice easily on the move. Always a good thing.

The tank also allows you to dabble with 2 types of coil. It comes with both a 1.0Ohm coil and 0.5Ohm coil. Of course the latter will need an e cig that can fire sub ohm coils.

In short, the Jacvapour S22 tank is a worthy contender when choosing a mouth to lung e cig tank.

Features

  • 2 X Coil heads – 1.0 ohm and 0.5 ohm
  • Easy to fill
  • Solid, well built tank

Simple to use with good flavour and widely available. Another tank that’s simple to use offering good flavour and a good starting point for new vapers or of course vapers looking to add a MTL tank to their setup.

The only real downside is that it only comes with one coil, however, it is a well priced tank from the outset.

Features

  • Comes with 1 X 0.5Ohm tank
  • Well built
  • Top-fill design
  • Good MTL vape performance
  • Replacement coils widely available

A welcome and much needed addition to the MTL vape tank world.

aspire-nautilus-2s-tank reviewThe Aspire Nautilus 2s is the latest in the infamous Nautilus line up of tanks and in one of the best mouth to lung tanks yet.

It is beginner friendly being easy to fill and change coils and the flavour it produces is spot on.

You do get drip tip options in the box so don’t worry ig the mouthpiece in the image looks a little long 🙂

Another excellent option from Aspire that should be considered carefully.

Features

  • 2 X coil heads included: 1 X 0.8ohm and 1 X 1.4 Ohm Coil head
  • Easy top fill design
  • Great build quality
  • Excellent flavour
  • Perfect for beginner vapers

So there we have it. Our top picks for the best mouth to lung vape tanks and clearomizers. It’s only a small list but with the age of sub ohm vaping upon us many manufacturers seem to have set aside the clearomizer for new vapers to concentrate on sub ohm tanks. Hopefully we will see a change in this trend as these category of product is very important for new vapers.

There are others such as the Kanger Evod tanks and Aspire CE5 clearomizers that can be picked up for cheap prices. The above though listed product will offer more in terms of quality and performance.

If you are a direct lung inhaler then check out our best rated sub ohm tanks. Many are available with coil resistances over 1.0 Ohm so you can have a quality tank without the ‘sub ohm’ element.

Today I’m going to be taking a look at one of the newest MTL RTA’s on the market – it’s from those lovely bunny designers – the Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA!

The Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA is a sweet-looking little tank that can take up to 4mls of e-liquid and utilises a single DIY coil.

Hellvape has been in and around the vape scene since 2016, with its main offices based in China and they have various outlets worldwide.

Because of the popularity of their products, they really need no introduction to the wider vaping community, except to say that their attention to detail with their designs and their quality of manufacturing is truly exceptional!

Hellvape is most famously known for their Dead Rabbit range of RDA and RTAs and tank atomizers.

They have released a few mouth-to-lung RTA toppers in the past like Vertex MTL RTA and the MD MTL RTA.

What to Expect From the Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA?

This is RTA a Hellvape first – it’s a dedicated mouth-to-lung RTA that has been released under their Dead Rabbit banner!

Hellvape has given us 6 colours to choose from – Stainless Steel (SS), Matt Black, Blue, Gunmetal, Gold and Matt Full Black.

The Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA has a base diameter of 23mm with a single external airflow inlet that has 4 settings that are operated by rotating the tank base ring!

This RTA takes 1 single DIY coil and Hellvape has given us the choice of 2 drip tips as well as 2 liquid capacities (2ml & 4ml) via separate chambers.

This sample Dead Rabbit MTL RTA was sent directly to me for review by Hellvape!

As always my thoughts and views are my own, after a considerable testing period.

Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA – Design and Build Quality

As you can see by my photos, Hellvape sent me the stainless steel version of this RTA for review, and as always the kit has been presented well in a card box.

The kit includes a 4ml liquid chamber, spare O-rings, spare post screws along with a Philips head screwdriver, cotton, a single Ni80 Clapton coil and a spare 510 Delrin mouthpiece!

The construction materials that make up the MTL RTA are 304 Stainless Steel, Pyrex glass and Resin/Delrin.

This RTA dismantles into 5 parts if you count removing the Pyrex glass from the liquid chamber.

Starting at the top

The tank is pre-installed with a long resin 510 mouthpiece that is sealed to Stainless Steel heat sink fins. This mouthpiece can be swapped for the spare shorter chess like 510 Delrin drip tip!

Removing the Stainless Steel fill cap reveals two liquid fill ports. The cap has a replaceable Silicone rubber gasket for leak prevention on the reverse side. The cap itself has a cog-like pattern and includes a knurling strip to help with its removal.

The main tank section is one piece and comprises of 2 slots for liquid filling, the chimney and the coil cover.

The two coil covers included with the kit have the Dead Rabbit logo engraved on to them.

It is very easy to remove the Pyrex glass from the main section with thumb and finger pressure – angle the glass and pull it off!

The 510 connection base unscrews from the base of the tank to reveal the single coil build deck. It comprises of a 2 post deck, a single internal airflow shaft and 2 spaces for your cotton. On each side of the deck below the deck threading are 4 honeycombed liquid intake holes.

On the bottom of the base, you will see all the normal info lightly engraved including, the tank name, Hellvape logo and the standard recycle and CE marks.

The 510 pin is gold plated and the shaft has well-turned threading, you will also see that the adjustable airflow ring has knurling to help with turning.

Hellvape has included within the kit a 0.7Ω Ni80 DIY coil and 1 piece of shoelace cotton.

My RTA came with the 2ml liquid chamber pre-installed, the 4ml chamber is in the box!

Airflow

The Dead Rabbit MTL RTA has a single external airflow slot that can be turned smoothly to suit user restrictions.

The airflow restriction hole sizes are 0.8mm, 1.2mm, 1.4mm, 1.6mm!

Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA – Quick Start Guide

Make your own DIY coil or use the Ni80 coil that came with the kit.

  • Unscrew the build deck and install your coil, trim the leads as near to the posts as possible
  • Heat and scrape the coil (you want the coil heating evenly from the inside out)
  • Insert your cotton through the coil, cut and fluff slightly and then tuck the cotton tails into the cotton spaces on the deck
  • Dampen your cotton and coil with E-liquid this is called Priming your coil
  • Re-assemble the RTA
  • At this point, I like to close the airflow
  • Unscrew the top cap and fill the Dead Rabbit MTL RTA with your e-liquid
  • Replace the cap and screw the tank onto a suitable device. Leave your mod and tank alone for a couple of minutes so the cotton can soak up more liquid – open the airflow and enjoy!

How Does the Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL RTA Perform?

Before I start this section, if you are looking for a restricted-direct-to-lung vape I wanted to respectfully point out you may want to look elsewhere, as this RTA is a dedicated mouth-to-lung tank only!

For this review I will be using my own 24g KA1 DIY coil made on a 2mm post. I’m using Kanthal due to my nickel allergy!

I will be using this RTA with the 4ml chamber installed and firing it on my Joyetech E-Vic mini, my choice of liquid today is Illusions Awakening Mamba.

Airflow and Wattage

I started my vape experience with this little RTA by setting my E-Vic Mini to 10W and using the smallest airflow setting 0.8mm, this for me was an extremely cheek-sucking vape.

I quickly progressed the airflow and power settings up to 1.2mm at 12W, then 1.4mm at 13/14W.

Finally I settled on the last airflow setting 1.6mm and I was able to take the wattage to 16/18W. Even so, the airflow draw was still very tight for me!

Vapour and Flavour Production

I have to say at this point I’m a direct-to-lung user and while I was very impressed by the excellent clean sharp flavour of this RTA and that of my chosen liquid, the vapour production was as typically low as normal for an MTL draw which is excellent if you need a stealth vape!

Preparation for use

Out of personal experience, I found this to be among one of the easiest RTA decks to build on. However, I would suggest holding the coil with your thumb while screwing down the contact leads or the coil might move. I would also recommend not over stuffing the deck cotton spaces, as this will lead to strangling the liquid, likewise not enough cotton will lead to leaks via the airflow slot!

I only suffered 1 leak with the Dead Rabbit MTL RTA when I first coiled it up, this was due to insufficient cotton in the wick spaces, which was easy to remedy.

Pros

  • Great quality and design
  • Excellent flavour
  • Adequate MTL vapour production
  • Easy-to-use airflow control

Cons

As a dedicated mouth-to-lung tank I have no concerns

Final Review Verdict

Hellvape has created many Dead Rabbit products, and while I have previously stated I’m not much of a mouth-to-lung vaper, I am still impressed by the flavour this one can produce.

The Dead Rabbit MTL RTA is very simple to build on. It’s just a matter of placing the coil in and screwing down the post screws. The only learning curve I had was trimming the cotton to the right length so the cotton wouldn’t strangle the liquid intake or leak!

I would recommend this RTA for new and intermediate users as a good replacement for the dreaded disposable vaping devices. Plus of course to those experienced with MTL RTA vaping.

To be honest, I didn’t find anything wrong with this RTA as it stands, however speaking personally an option for RDL airflow would have been nice!

Innokin – Zlide Top Tank

Primarily the Zlide Top tank is a restricted direct-to-lung (RDL) tank with the option to be used as a mouth-to-lung (MTL) tank when the airflow is reduced enough! We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vaping Styles.

My 2ml tank had the new MTL 0.6Ω Duoprime coil installed and there’s a spare RDL 0.3Ω coil in the box!

The kit also comes with a spare 510 mouthpiece which is wider than the installed MTL Delrin 510 mouthpiece. Also included are some O-rings and a silicone fill stopper.

The airflow is fully adjustable and has a nice smooth airflow control ring!

Two plug-and-play coils have been included with the kit –

  • Z Coil 0.6Ω 9-13W Duoprime MTL –
The outer layer of mesh is of higher resistance than the inner coil, which means it heats slowly. This design draws e-liquid into the wicking material and the inner coil rapidly.
Duoprime coils maintain full saturation between each vape which helps performance and longevity!Innokin coolfire z60 about duoprime coils

The Zlide Top tank is compatible with the complete Z Coil Platform series.

How Does the Innokin Z60 Kit Perform?

For this review, I will be filling both Zlide Top tanks with Mejusa “Berry Lemonade”.

For MTL, I will be using the Silver mod with the installed 0.6Ω Duoprime coil and for RDL I will use the Purple mod with the 0.3Ω Z coil.

Innokin coolfire z60 on wall

I’m not going to say I’m in love with this kit, however it does function exactly as it’s described. It fits my style of vaping fine with the 0.3Ω Z coil.

Innokin coolfire z60 brick display

With the Zlide Top airflow restricted to a ¼ open I received a good MTL vape from the 0.6Ω Duoprime coil with a decent flavoursome vape at 12W.

Innokin coolfire z60 12w screen

Opening the airflow for an RDL draw and using the 0.3Ω coil, setting the wattage to 35W I received a good flavour and plenty of vapour.

Innokin coolfire z60 35w toot

Coil & Battery Performance

I have been using these kits for almost 2 weeks!

The 0.6Ω Duoprime coil as an MTL with coil+ mode active at 12W is still going ok, although I am expecting to have to change it shortly!

The 0.3Ω Z Coil DTL coil lasted me just about 4 days at 30/35W on standard wattage mode – mind you, I’ve hit this one quite hard at times LOL.

Innokin coolfire z60 leaves fall

The 2500mah battery used as an MTL device is excellent lasting me almost 1½ days! And as an RDL device, the Z60 battery lasted me approx 3.5 hours at 35W.

Innokin coolfire z60 outside flower dark

I have got to say when I was first sent this kit I wasn’t that impressed with the coil+ mode, as it makes a slight firing sound when you let the button go. What the unit is doing is pulling more liquid into the coil for the next puff thereby keeping the coil saturated and extending its life.

I found that the standard wattage mode didn’t make this noise which pleased my OCD highly LOL

Innokin coolfire z60 hand comfort

Pros

  • Quality and Design are very good
  • Great battery life (MTL)
  • Fair battery life (RDL)
  • Comfortable in the hand
  • Duoprime coils are long-lasting
  • Good flavour
  • Good Vapour Production

Cons

  • Coil+ mode noise
  • 2ml capacity (not a fault of the kit – that is down to TPD regulations!)

Final Review Verdict

Although the Zlide Top tank allows for a great mouth-to-lung vape with the airflow turned down, this is much more of a restricted direct-to-lung tank which fits my vape style wonderfully!

I did find myself using the kit in standard wattage mode a lot because the Coil+ mode makes a firing noise which sets off my OCD lol.

Would I recommend the Innokin Z60 Kit?

“Yes”, this kit would be suitable for all levels of vape experience!

Would I buy this kit again due to loss or damage?

“Yes”, I would consider replacing the kit.

In for review today is the Geekvape Z MTL tank.

Geekvape MTL Z tank hand check imageIt’s been a hot minute since I reviewed a stock coil MTL tank and who better a manufacturer to cast my beady eye over than Geekvape?

Shenzhen based Geekvape have established themselves as industry giants over the last seven years. They’re responsible for some of the best known Mods, sub ohm tanks and RTA’s (rebuildable tank atomizer) on the market.

We only have to look at the popularity of the Aegis Legend Mod, Zeus sub ohm tank and Zeus X Mesh RTA to understand why Geekvape are currently serving over 30 million customers worldwide.

Quite recently Geekvape decided to unify the brand image and business strategy of the Zeus range of products. They’re now simply known as the Z range.

The letters that form the word geek are derived from the words Genuine, Enthusiastic, Expert and Knowledge. It’s time to find out just how geeky the Z MTL tank actually is.

What Can We Expect From The Geekvape Z MTL Tank?

BTW the term “MTL” stands for “Mouth To Lung” which is a style of vaping generally preferred by ex-smokers. We tell you more in our Guide to Vape Styles.

Geekvape MTL Z Tank bannerThe Z range are classed as ‘the ultimate leak proof tanks’. That’s because the airflow structure is incorporated into the top of the tank. Since the e-liquid level falls below this there’s very little chance of juice escaping.

Geekvape MTL Z tank top airflow systemOur Z MTL tank is no exception. Filling is also achieved via the top of the tank to make life much easier – especially for when a quick fix is needed.

The tank is brand new to the Z range and therefore comes with two new ‘A’ series coils. (That’s another letter to remember!). These have been exclusively designed for use with the Z tank to provide a better MTL flavour experience.

Geekvape MTL Z tank A series coils

It looks like the Z MTL tank is TPD compliant (EU) and holds a maximum of 2ml e-liquid.

It comes in a choice of metallic colours and these are Stainless Steel, Gunmetal, Black, Blue, Rainbow and Gold (under review).

Geekvape MTL Z Tank colour schemesMassive thanks to Vape Club for sending this over for the purposes of review. It’s very much appreciated.

What’s In The Box?

It comes in the usual Geekvape slip case/two piece plastic carton for added protection. The tank sits in a thick foam inlay underneath which are the essential extras.

Geekvape Z MTL Tank – Design and Build Quality

The version I received has a smart brushed Gold finish from top to bottom. Weighing 70g, it’s a little heavier than I anticipated and that will have a detrimental effect on the Mod you decide to use.

Dual Z shaped viewing windows on the Geekvape MTL Z tank

Put simply, the A series coils are so low powered the Z tank is likely to be as effective on a lightweight integrated battery Mod as a single 18650 device. This may make it feel top heavy so weigh up your choices when pairing.

..Nice play on words, eh? lol

The silica glass section is protected by a metal housing with two rather apt ‘Z’ shaped viewing windows to add that extra touch of class.

Airflow Adjustability

I’m not quite sure why the tank requires dual airflow adjustability since it’s touted as a MTL device. The chances are we’re looking at a tank capable of a Restricted Direct Lung (RDL) vape too but we’ll soon find out.

Dual airflow adjustability on the Geekvape MTL Z tankDrip Tip and Top Cap

Two drip tips have been included (replaceable with one of your own) but they both appear to be identical. It would have made sense to have one for each coil resistance.

The domed top cap has some decent knurling and uses a simple quarter turn system to remove or replace. It’s very easy to work and the O-rings on the underside provide an adequate seal.

Domed top cap of the Geekvape MTL Z tank

Fill Ports

Unscrewing the top cap reveals two kidney shaped fill ports measuring around 10mm in diameter. I’d be a bit cautious when filling with larger bottle nozzles. There won’t be any issues using standard 10ml bottle nozzles.

The Deck Section

There’s more than enough threading on the deck section although tightening and loosening does create a few ‘squeaky mice’ moments. It’s worth mentioning that the base tapers down to around 20mm – the main body itself measures 22.4mm.

Unscrewing the deck of the Geekvape MTL Z tankAirflow Intake

The Z tank comes with the 0.8ohm A series coil installed and both coils have a flat edge. Although it doesn’t seem to matter how it’s fitted (plug and play) I lined the edge up with one of the two air flow separator tabs as shown below.

Best coil seating on the Geekvape MTL Z tankDual air ingress ports are visible either side of the installed coil. So airflow enters through the top, travels down the side of the tank and surrounds the coil at the base.

510 Pin

The 510 pin is gold plated and protrudes. It’s designed to work on the majority of Mods but please don’t use with any kind of mechanical device or hybrid Mod. One possible pairing might be the Geekvape Aegis Mini with its integrated 2200mAh battery.

As already mentioned, the tank is relatively heavy so devices running up to 50W may not feel right when partnering.

Geekvape MTL Z Tank – Quick Start Guide

This really will be a quick start guide because other than letting e-juice soak into the cotton it’s very basic.

Let’s assume the coil doesn’t come installed.

  • Unscrew the deck by turning clockwise
  • Push the plug and play A series coil up inside the tank chamber ensuring a snug fit
  • Installing an A series coil on the Geekvape MTL Z tankScrew the deck back onto the tank
  • Unscrew the top cap by turning anti clockwise
  • Gently pour E-liquid into one of the fill ports, keeping an eye on the fill level
  • Filling the Geekvape MTL Z tankScrew the top cap back into place

As mentioned, let the E-liquid soak into the wicking ports for around five minutes before attaching the Geekvape MTL Z tank to your preferred Mod.

NB: It’s worth mentioning that all Mods/battery sections are different. Please remember to set wattage to suit the parameters of the coil before vaping..

Geekvape MTL Z Tank – How Does It Perform?

I began by using the installed 0.8ohm A series Kanthal coil. It has a power range of between 12 – 16W so I opted for the highest power setting when testing. 88 Vape Raspberry Ripple e-liquid was used and has a ratio of 50VG/50PG.

0.8ohm A Series coil

As expected with the airflow wide open, there was nowhere near enough restriction for a satisfactory MTL vape. It’s possible but extremely loose and most of the flavour gets muted by an over abundance of vapour production.

It’s best to employ an RDL (Restricted Direct Lung) style with this setting because the airflow is restricted by around 60%. RDL vaping happens to be my preferred style and the Z tank didn’t let me down. The inhale was smooth, turbulent free and generally very quiet.

Flavour replication was excellent, bringing out all the sweetness and sharpness of the fruit while the diary like qualities blended seamlessly into the background. The flavour is there from the beginning of the inhale and well after the exhale too, lingering nicely on the palate.

Geekvape MTL Z tank 0.8ohm A series kanthal coilMid Airflow Restriction

This was when I learnt how precise the adjustable airflow system of the Z tank really is.

The airflow restriction was now at around 80%, a significant enough jump from when wide open. With two airflow slots open either side I was straying into MTL territory.

..but not quite.

I still felt there wasn’t enough restriction for a decent MTL vape. It’s certainly possible this time but just a tad slack for my own personal liking. In other words I didn’t feel it was offering the classic tight restriction that a cigarette butt offers.

..yes, unfortunately I do still remember! lol

The flavour was still excellent if slightly muted and a little washed out when compared to a restrictive direct lung hit. An RDL pull was now beginning to vex the neck muscles therefore making the vaping experience somewhat on the uncomfortable side.

So I was stuck between a vape and a hard place on this setting and was the least favourable in my opinion for comfort or style of vaping.

Maximum Airflow Restriction

This is where it’s at for that classic MTL vape! Airflow restriction is set to around 85 – 90% and works an absolute treat. The option of any kind of RDL vape is out the window and makes way for the true capabilities of this tank.

As well as being the perfect MTL draw there’s also a very comfortable and natural feel to the inhale. Both smooth and turbulent free, the full force of the Raspberry is able to run rampant throughout the course of the vape.

The sweetness and bitterness of the fruit join forces with the dairy content on the way out while vapour production is thin and wispy – suitably stealth like.

The proof of the MTL capabilities dawned on me after a few hours of use. I never once felt the urge to revert to my own particular style of vaping. Awesome work!

1.2ohm A Series Coil

To test the coil I used Original C Ice Blast e-liquid. It’s another 50VG/50PG blend with 3mg freebase nicotine. This A series coil runs between 8 – 12W so I opted for the latter in the hopes of maximising flavour.

With airflow wide open the restriction isn’t too far off a decent MTL vape but again, not quite the finished article. However it’s a tighter vape on this setting than the 0.8ohm coil.

Attempting a RDL vape proved to be a little bit uncomfortable but still possible.

The flavour quality was off the scale with plenty of natural tasting Menthol piling in right from the first inhale. The cooling effect on the throat was very welcome and refreshing.

Geekvape MTL Z tank 1.2ohm A series coilMid Airflow Restriction

The MTL vape experience starts to come together with two airflow slots exposed. The inhale is extremely quiet and turbulent free. I was very impressed by flavour definition from such a low powered coil and the cooling Menthol seeped through on every exhale

Vapour production is suitably stealth like and effective enough to replicate the experience of cigarette smoke.

Maximum Airflow Restriction

As good a MTL vape as I could’ve expected! There’s just the right amount of tightness on the draw because extended inhales are still possible. The flavour becomes more intense and saturated once the tightest of restriction is set.

This setting provides a very smooth and comfortable inhale while the exhale takes care of the business end of flavour replication. With only one airflow slot open either side you can expect the very best concentration of flavour.

There’s no inconsistency to the wicking properties of the coil, either. No additional post vape wetness or mid vape dryness just a high quality vaping experience.

Your ‘classic’ MTL vape with the airflow restriction pitched perfect.

Pros

  • Excellent flavour replication from both A series coils
  • Tough, durable build quality with good use of knurling
  • Precise airflow system
  • Easy to refill in a hurry

 Cons

  • Not strictly a MTL tank
  • Slight gap between deck and tank (subjective)
  • Both drip tips are the same (subjective)
  • Coils weep from their base
  • May be top heavy when paired with some Mods

Final Review Verdict

I recommend using juice ratios of either 50VG/50PG or 60VG/40PG when using the new A series coils. I can’t stress this enough but when pairing with your chosen Mod please do make sure you make appropriate changes to wattage before vaping.

Not all chipsets have the ability to auto adjust to the coil parameters and this will undoubtedly lead to early dry hitting, potentially ruining a brand new coil.

..You’ve been warned! lol

In all fairness, the 0.8ohm A series coil still falls within sub ohm vaping territory so I guess retains its flexibility to vape as either restrictive lung or as mouth to lung.

Just remember to reduce airflow to a single slot either side if you purchase the tank for its intended purpose when using this coil.

You won’t notice such issues using the 1.2ohm A series coil. The differences are subtle but noteworthy. It’s testament to how precise the adjustable airflow really is because this is the coil to use if you’re solely into your MTL vapes. It won’t disappoint.

In closing the new A series coils match the overall build quality of the Geekvape Z MTL tank. Highly impressive in equal measure.

Innokin Gozee Kit kit display 2

My review is based on the TPD version of the kit. The only differences between the standard and TPD versions is the standard “Go Z tank” is supplied with a removable mouthpiece and has a 3.5ml fill capacity!

Innokin Gozee Kit the standard kit

This is a mouth to lung (MTL) tank with the option to be used as a restricted direct to lung (RDTL) vape when the airflow is fully open and the right coil!

We tell you what the terms DTL and MTL mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

Innokin Gozee Kit view exploded

Both the Gozee mod and Go Z tank are made of plastic. The whole kit has a modern look with great light feel in the hand, add in the up to 60W power available and this is a very versatile unit.

The Gozee Kit is well manufactured with a great quality of design!

Innokin Gozee Kit – Go Z Tank

My 2ml tank had the 0.8Ω coil for RDL vaping installed with a spare MTL 1.6Ω coil in the box!

Looking carefully at the tank you will note the plastic has a hint of colour to match the device and measures in at approximately 45mm tall with a base diameter of 20mm.

The airflow comprises of 3 medium sized holes that are fully adjustable via the airflow ring!

Innokin Gozee Kit bottom airflow

Dismantling into 3 parts the tank comprises of the body, coil and airflow ring. The TPD Go Z mouthpiece is not removable and is moulded to the tank.

Two plug and play coils have been included with the kit

  • Z Coil RDL 0.8Ω 15-18W
  • Z Coil MTL 1.6Ω 1-14W

The threading screws directly in to the 510 connection on the device thereby making stable connection to the device.

The tank is compatible with the complete Z Coil range which are also common to the Zenith and Zlide tanks.

Innokin Gozee Mod

As I said this device is made of bright lightweight double injected plastic and measures in at 70mm or approximately 119mm tall with the tank in place. The 510 connection can take tanks with diameters of up to 25mm without overhang, with the Go Z tank in place the kit weighs 73g.

When in use the battery is responsive with a quick fire!

Innokin Gozee Mod Body

Entirely moulded in double injection plastic, the device has a soft look to it. Don’t be fooled the plastic is very durable.

On the sides of the device there are a couple of advertising marks that are basically transparent and embedded within the plastic. They are more or less visible depending on what light you’re in!

Innokin Gozee Mod Workface

The device has a colour OLED screen that measures approximately 2.5cm tall and 1.5cm wide. It displays all the normal info you’d expect to see! The screen is clean and bright, even I can see what’s going on without my reading specs lol.

Innokin Gozee Kit face work

There is a plastic fire button and a rocker adjustment button in the same colour as the mod, contrasting well with the dark workface!

The internal battery is 2100mAh and is charged via the 2A Type C USB port.

How Does the Innokin Gozee Kit Perform?

For this review I will be filling both Go Z tanks with Kwik Vape “Lime Slushie”

Innokin Gozee Kit liquid display 1

I will be using Turquoise mod with the installed 0.8Ω coil for RDL vaping and the Yellow mod with the 1.6Ω coil for MTL.

And later I will bung a different atomiser on to test the higher wattage capability of the device!

  • Let the tank stand for about 3 minutes before firing so the cotton can soak up more e-liquid!

Innokin Gozee Device

I make it a habit now of fully charging any device that has an internal battery, as the factory only partially charges devices before shipment.

Innokin Gozee Kit 2 amp charge

Basic Functions

The Innokin Gozee is a simple kit to use!

  • 3 quick presses of the fire button will turn the Gozee on or off.
  • The battery bar on the display shows different colours depending on the current battery charge level.
    Green: 100-60%
    Yellow: 60-20%
    Red: 20% or less

A full recharge of the battery takes only 60 minutes at 2 amps!

  • Adjusting the wattage – hold one of the adjustment buttons for 2s then adjust as normal.
  • Press the adjustment buttons together to enter the Menu.

The menu options include screen cut off time and max toot time up to 10s.

  • Press the down adjustment button and the fire button to lock and unlock the device.
  • Pressing the up adjustment button and the fire button together will show you the battery voltage guide, Ohms of your coil and Puff count.

Innokin Gozee Kit screen functions

Perusing the documentation and the Innokin website did not reveal to me any safety features for the device!

However, the device will fire coils of between 0.2-3.5Ω and is adjustable from 6-60W.

Innokin Gozee Kit – In Use

I’m not going to say this is a fabulous must have kit but it does function exactly as it says on the tin. It fits my style of vaping fine, although personally I’ll be using the mod with a different atomiser in the future, not that there is anything wrong with the Go Z tank I just like higher wattages!

Innokin Gozee Kit liquid display 2

With the Go Z airflow open fully, I received a fairly restricted DTL vape with fairly good flavour and good clouds at 15 and 18W.

Innokin Gozee Kit puff yellow

Reducing the airflow for a MTL draw that is a full on flavour but for me it’s like sucking a watermelon through a straw lol!

Innokin Gozee Kit puff blue

Coil & Battery Life

I have been using these kits for almost 2 weeks, the 1.6Ω Z Coil lasted me around 7 days as an MTL coil at 10/12W, the other 0.8Ω Z Coil DTL coil lasted just over 5 days at 17W!

With both coils I have received good flavour and good vapour production.

Innokin Gozee Kit display 1 outside

Using the 2100mah battery as an MTL device it lasted me nearly 2 days! As an RDL device the Gozee battery lasted me approx 4.5 hours.

Of course this depended on how I tooted it!

Innokin Gozee Kit display outside 5

I have been testing the Gozee Mod with a variety of different 25mm tanks. So far my favourite to use with the mod has been the Freemax Fireluke 3 between 35/50W DTL with a 0.2Ω coil; this of course drops the battery life to around 3.5hrs.

Innokin Gozee Kit on board FL3

Pros

  • Quality and Design are very good
  • Great battery life
  • Comfortable in hand
  • Long lasting coils
  • Good flavour
  • Good Vapour Production
  • Very Good retail price

Cons

I have no big concerns with this kit!

Final Review Verdict

Although the kit allows for restricted direct to lung and fits my vape style wonderfully, I can’t say the Go Z tank is for me, the flavour however if used as intended the MTL flavour is good!

The Gozee device is great I love the colours I have and the lightness of the device is great I can put it in my shirt pocket and forget it!

Would I recommend the Innokin Gozee Kit?

“Yes”, this kit would be suitable for all levels of vape experience.

Would I buy this kit again due loss or damage?

“Yes” I would replace it.

The end goal is to constantly create the perfect vape.

They were the first manufacturer to build a medical grade factory, equipped with an automatic production line.

Vaporesso Gen Fit 40 bannerSince their inception way back in 2015, Vaporesso have been constantly creating vapes. As to being perfect? Well that’s in the eye of the individual vaper but products like the GEN 200/80S kit certainly show a high level of commitment to the sub ohm vaper.

The Osmall and XROS range does the same for newer vapers looking to quit the cigs with lower powered Mouth To Lung (MTL) devices.

MTL and DTL (Direct To Lung) are two different vaping styles – we tell you all about them in our Guide To MTL DTL.

Somewhere in between lie the pod vape mods. I reviewed the Vaporesso GEN PT80S and found it extremely hard to fault. We’ve also taken a detailed look at the LUXE 80.

The GEN FIT 40 is a device that falls into the tank Mod category. Does it come out fighting fit?

Let’s take a look.

What Can We Expect From The Vaporesso GEN FIT 40 Pod Mod?

The GEN FIT 40 takes over where the GEN FIT left off and with many changes. It doesn’t use the AXON chip or the MTX coils but at 40W doubles the power capabilities and massively improves the integrated battery capacity to 2000mAh.

Vaporesso Gen Fit 40 componentsAlthough the new iTank X is compatible with the GTX range of coils keep in mind the 0.2ohm and 0.15ohm mesh coils are designed to work best with higher wattage devices such as the Vaporesso GEN PT80S.

Vaporesso Gen fit 40 GTX coilsWith an innovative COREX inside technology, the GTX coils can provide a constant and accurate flavour replication.

Vaporesso Gen fit 40 corexThe “Morph-Mesh” is packed with “Cumulus cotton” so the coil can fully vaporise any flavour in the e-juice to provide a longer more consistent vape.

Vaporesso Gen Fit 40 corex meshThe iTank X also incorporates SSS (seal, saturate, store) tech to ensure liquid is locked into the tank. Any condensation appearing at the base is recycled back into the vape to ensure a leak free performance.

Vaporesso refer to this as the liquid self circulating system.

The Vaporesso GEN FIT 40 is available in a host of colours. These are: Midnight Black, Space Grey, Sierra Blue (under review), Rose Gold, Taffy Pink and Prussian Blue.

Design and Build Quality

iTank X

With a circumference of only 20mm it’s a dinky little tank yet looks very much at home screwed to the included Mod. I’m not quite sure of the weight but it’s slightly heavier than the Mod which tends to make it feel a bit top heavy.

Vaporesso iTank X There’s dual airflow adjustability built into the base of the iTank X and the turning resistances are buttery smooth. It’s possible to make the finest of adjustments and these are necessary as we shall see.

Turning the airflow control ring (AFC) completely to the right closes off airflow altogether. Turning it left will initially open two pin holes designed for use with the GTX 1.2ohm regular wire coil.

Vaporesso iTank X mouth to lung airflow settingFurther rotation reveals a wider cycloptic opening. This airflow structure is designed for use with the GTX 0.6ohm mesh coil with its direct lung (DTL) properties.

Vaporesso iTank X direct lung airflow setting

Unscrewing the deck from the tank reveals a manufacturing design I don’t often see. It’s clear the inner plastic tray is designed to seal in any condensate or potential leaking from the base of the coil.

It’s part of the Vaporesso SSS technology and we’ll see how effective this is at recycling e-juice shortly.

Vaporesso gen fit 40 sss tech inside the deck of iTank XThe GTX range of coils are plug and play and the 0.6ohm mesh coil is ready to rock and roll out of the box. Although the sides of the coil are flattened, it doesn’t matter how you put them in. Just make sure they’ve pushed up far enough to create a seal with the included dual O rings.

Moving on to the top of the iTank X there’s a removable plastic drip tip. The catch cup is devoid of O rings so if you’re considering a replacement make sure these are incorporated into the drip tip of choice.

Vaporesso gen fit 40 removeable drip tip

The top cap is removed by rotating a quarter of a turn anti clockwise. This will expose the fill and air release ports. It’s always nice when an air release port is included because it drastically reduces the chances of losing e-juice while filling.

GEN FIT 40 Mod

By today’s standards the Mod is also quite small but it’s also lightweight. The elliptical build means it’s comfortable to hold in the hand.

How many times have fingers been in the way of the display?

Not so with the Gen Fit 40 Mod because it’s top mounted. This means you’ll never miss any of that vital info, such as remaining battery or number of puffs.

Vaporesso gen fit 40 screen display on mod section top mounted

Although the screen only makes use of a black and white 0.49in OLED display it’s still surprisingly clear to view. The coil resistance, number of puffs, locked state, battery meter and current power settings are all pin sharp and crystal clear.

Fire and menu buttons are raised, tactile and responsive. Finding them in poor lighting conditions should be easy enough.

Vaporesso gen fit 40 mod section showing front panel
Fire button, up and down rocker and Type C USB charging port.

A type C USB charging port is conveniently positioned at the bottom of the Mod so charging in a vertical position will also be a sinch.

Vaporesso have even included three battery venting slots on the underside. That’s worth a few brownie points in my humble opinion.

How To Operate The Vaporesso GEN FIT 40 Mod

Press the fire button 5 times within 2 seconds to turn the device on or off.

  • Press the fire button three times to lock/unlock the device
  • To start vaping, press and hold the fire button. Never vape for more than 10 seconds at a time
  • To adjust the power, press the up or down menu buttons
  • Hold the fire and up menu button together to flip the screen orientation
  • To enter system setting hold the up and down buttons together

When in the system setting screen choose from Smart wattage, Variable wattage, Variable voltage, default mode or exit to main display.

Smart wattage mode will auto detect the best setting for the installed coil. It takes the pain out of finding that sweet spot.

Safety First!

The Vaporesso GEN FIT 40 Tank Mod kit is protected against various battery or coil issues.

The device stops functioning if vaping time exceeds 10 continuous seconds. It won’t work if the tank isn’t screwed down sufficiently and when a short circuit is detected, will also cease to function.

It won’t work if the battery voltage is too low or if reaching a point of over discharge. Likewise, the device automatically switches off when fully charged.

Vaporesso GEN FIT 40 Tank Mod – How Does It Perform?

I started by using the installed 0.6ohm GTX mesh coil. It’s rated at between 20-26W with a Smart wattage best setting of 22W.

Vaporesso GTX 0.6ohm mesh coil pic 1There are large airflow slots on the base of the coil which should not only assist with cooling but provide a cloudy direct lung vape. The four wicking ports are quite sizeable too.

I used IVG Vanilla Biscuit e-liquid to test for flavour. It’s an authentic enough flavour containing plenty of subtle tones and nuances. How did the coil fare?

Vaporesso 0.6ohm GTX Mesh Coil – Maximum Airflow

There’s still a minor degree of airflow restriction which isn’t surprising given the narrow bore of the drip tip. It produces a smooth, turbulent free vape with a minimum level of noise generated during the inhale.

Cloud production is super impressive although it will dissipate faster than other sub ohm tank set ups. They still begin life as thick, dense plumes of vapour.

All the dairy notes and creamy content of the flavour are present making for a very satisfying vape experience. The Custard and Vanilla tones work well, replicating Ambrosia Cream and this heightens the overall appeal on the exhale.

However there are a few things to note. As concentrated and saturated the flavour is, it will leave some wetness on the palate. I don’t believe this is spit back because I never tasted any juice on the tongue.

It’s an odd experience that doesn’t shift when maximum wattage is applied either.

Secondly, the vape remains very cool so the coil would be best used with fruit, menthol or beverage based e-liquid flavours.

Mid Airflow Restriction

The change in airflow is very subtle. There’s probably an increased restriction of about 10-15%. How does it affect flavour quality? If anything I found it to become slightly muted. It was still flavoursome but that wet feeling is more pronounced.

Vapour production is as good as always and the inhale remains turbulent free even with longer draws.

The restriction does nothing to increase the warmth of the vape so it’s still a relatively cold bowl of Custard I’m getting.

Further Airflow Restriction

Vaporesso GTX 0.6ohm mesh coil pic 2

I needed to dial the dual adjustable airflow down to a single pin hole in order to achieve anything approaching a mouth to lung (MTL) vape.

Even then it’s an uncomfortable experience with too much air being drawn into the mouth to qualify as a decent vape. It’s passable but by no means the classic cigarette style restriction.

Flavour quality actually holds up quite well and there’s definitely the chance to experience more of the biscuit like back notes of the profile post exhale but again, it’s still a cool vape.

Vapour production is reduced to a minimum and does replicate the volume created by cigarette smoke.

Personally, the 0.6ohm GTX mesh coil is designed to work with airflow totally unrestricted. It delivers by far the best flavour and cloud replication.

Vaporesso 1.2ohm GTX Regular Coil – Maximum Airflow

The coil has a power rating of between 8-12W and once again I opted to use Smart wattage mode with the maximum 12W recommendation.

The airflow inlet on the base of the 1.2ohm GTX regular coil is reduced by two thirds when compared to the 0.6ohm coil.

The bore of the coil is also substantially smaller and so are the wicking ports. Cumulus cotton is wrapped around the vertically installed round wire build.

Vaporesso GTX 1.2ohm regular wire coil pic 2All the signs point to a classic MTL vape. Is that what I got?

I used a generic 50VG/50PG Blueberry flavour e-liquid to test the coil and began with the airflow set wide open.

The level of restriction is instantly noticeable and seems to be set to around 50%. This meant I was still able to get a semi restrictive lung hit which allowed plenty of Coolada to escape amongst the sweetness of the fruit during inhale.

Again there’s very little turbulence generated although a wetness does still land on the roof of the tongue. It’s not spit back in the way it’s usually described, though. The flavour is bright, clean and vibrant at all stages of the exhale and leaves a lasting impression on the palate.

Vapour production is good given the low level power of the coil but don’t expect it to be chucking ‘dem clouds.

Mid Airflow Restriction

The coil can’t seem to make up its mind which direction to take and there’s really not much restrictive difference between here and wide open.

You’ll get far too much airflow for a MTL vape so it becomes a very restrictive lung hit. It’s not particularly comfortable to vape and the ‘ole neck muscle gets an Arnie workout!

There’s still no turbulence and the inhale is very smooth. The icy nature of the vape becomes more intense and takes centre stage over the Blueberry.

The fruit does still shine but highlights more of the sour nature of the fruit while the sweetness and wetness leave their mark on the tongue during the exhale.

Further Airflow Restriction

Vaporesso GTX 1.2ohm regular wire coil pic 1Ok, this is where the radical change takes place. Reducing the airflow to the two pinhole slots creates a much more satisfactory MTL vape but by using just the one slot a classic cigarette style draw occurs.

The inhale is very comfortable and smooth. A longer tug provides a nice full feeling during inhale and the flavour qualities are superbly replicated on the way out. The balance of Coolada to fruit is bang on par.

Cloud production is obviously much more diluted and wispy but that’s what you expect from this style of vaping.

The sour and sweet qualities pull through during the inhale and the juiciness of the Blueberry explodes during exhale, leaving more sweetness to line the tongue afterwards.

The flavour doesn’t linger on the palate which lead to the habit of me vaping more when mouth to lung hitting – just to appreciate the quality this 1.2ohm GTX coil was offering.

Battery Performance

I can’t grumble here, either. I got 8 hours use from the 0.6ohm GTX mesh coil during which time I racked up 362 puffs on the counter and had refilled the tank twice. During this time I vaped somewhere in the region of 8ml of e-liquid.

The 1.2ohm GTX regular coil caused the battery to go into ‘Duracell mode’. On and on and on! lol.

In the end the battery held out for a staggering 20 hours during which time the tank was refilled twice. I’d vaped around 8ml of e-liquid and the puff counter registered over 600 puffs.

The battery gave me a one minute warning prior to failing. After this the empty battery bar icon continued to flash, preventing further vaping.

During a recharge it takes a mere 10 minutes for the battery to top up to 30%. As well as showing a charge percentage, the remaining time to completion is also shown. I like that!

Fast one hour type C charging lives up to its reputation because that’s exactly how long I had to wait with the Vaporesso Gen FIT 40 tank mod.

If you’re an impatient bugger like me, as long as you keep the device on during a recharge it’s possible to continue vaping.

Pros

  • Neither coil leaks
  • Versatile airflow design. Vape DTL or MTL
  • Easy to fill on the go using the quarter turn top cap
  • Exceptional battery life with the GTX 1.2ohm regular coil
  • Excellent flavour and cloud production from both GTX coils
  • Smart wattage takes the guesswork out of power settings

Cons

  • iTank X feels a bit top heavy (subjective)
  • Top mounted screen can gather dust and dirt
  • 0.42in screen may be too small for some
  • Screen can be difficult to read in direct sunlight

Final Review Verdict

It’s quite apparent the 0.6ohm GTX mesh coil is designed for either a direct or semi restrictive lung hit. Really it’s a waste of time using it for MTL vaping and that’s why the 1.2ohm GTX regular wire coil has been included.

It’s also clear that the airflow structure has been correctly designed and allows just the right amount of airflow to suit either style. This never comes at the sacrifice to flavour either so that’s also impressive in my opinion.

In fact, if I’m honest I have a very hard time faulting the Vaporesso GTX range of coils. They always seem to deliver exactly what I’m looking for.

Everyday Use

The iTank X does feel a little top heavy once filled with 3.5ml of e-juice but that can be overcome to an extent by using the 2ml straight glass. Some may also find it more aesthetically pleasing but tank size isn’t something that usually bothers me.

The Mod section is very light so the additional tank weight does become noticeable.

It’s very comfortable in the hand and the fire button is instantly accessible. Designed more for a trouser pocket, you may become more conscious of the Gen FIT 40 when slipped inside a shirt pocket.

A white OLED screen on a black background can still become difficult to read in direct sunlight. Being top mounted also means it’s prone to picking up dirt and dust particles.

Refilling the tank was a doddle using the quarter turn top cap mechanic and the air release valve kept over filling well and truly at bay.

Throughout daily use the coils held up well to some rather intense vaping sessions and the mesh one never once showed any signs of dry hitting. The regular wire coil performed equally as consistent over the course of days.

Who Is the Vaporesso Gen FIT 40 Tank Mod Recommended To?

Both new and seasoned vapers alike. The basic menu system makes it accessible to a newer vaper but also to an experienced vaper working with voltage over wattage settings.

A complete novice will gain instant confidence using the plug and play coils and top filling is both quick and super easy using the quarter turn threading of the top cap.

A few button presses will activate Smart wattage, alleviating the pain of finding the correct power setting – something else a newer vaper will appreciate.

The 0.6ohm GTX mesh coil does more than enough to keep any fussy sub ohm vaper content and really delivers on flavour and cloud production given the relatively low power output.

The 1.2ohm GTX regular coil behaved very consistently over the course of the three days it took to empty the battery. Again, flavour and cloud production was on par.

All of this proves the Vaporesso Gen FIT 40 is a versatile little vape kit. It’s bound to keep the MTL or DTL vaper happy with its great flavour and cloud production.

Oh – nearly forgot. Not one leak. Well, maybe just a touch from the 1.2ohm GTX regular coil at the base using the thin 50VG/50PG juice. I’m sure the silicone tray would’ve taken care of that..

SSS technology. Gotta love it! So is the Vaporesso Gen FIT 40 fit to vape?

It most certainly is!

In for review is the JustFog Q16FF Kit.

JustFog Q16FF kit hand check picJustFog are a Korean based manufacturer specialising in vape starter kits and pod devices. Their background story is a familiar but reassuring one. To protect a billion adults around the globe from the harmful chemicals found within tobacco.

They do this by offering maximum vape with minimal battery requirements. Also by solving the problems associated with tank leakage.

q16ff banner

The original Q16 starter kit was released back in 2016 and stayed on the market for more than three years. JustFog boast that’s longer than many other well know vape devices.

I reviewed the Q16 Pro back in 2019 stating its significance to the newer vaper. However, I didn’t feel it delivered enough impact to lift itself above a multitude of similar starter kits.

Will the JustFog Q16FF Kit allay those concerns? If the vape is maximised and the tank doesn’t leak we’ll be off to a flyer so let’s find out.

Worldwide Shipping

What Can We Expect From The JustFog Q16FF Kit?

The JustFog Q16FF now comes with an upgraded 1.2ohm vertically mounted organic cotton coil. It’s also compatible with the 1.6ohm bottom OCC coil of the Q16 Pro.

q16 ff coil

The Q16 Pro featured 4 step voltage control whereas the upgrade uses 3 step wattage output. Micro USB has been ditched in favour of the faster Type C but the overall dimensions and material used are the same.

One of the reasons we can expect the JustFog Q16FF to perform as nothing more than a simple, straightforward MTL starter kit is in its battery capacity.

JustFog Q16FF starter kit boxed imageIt’s the same 900mAh integrated battery as before and has a maximum output of 13W. So expect conservative amounts of vapour.

As mentioned, JustFog have retained the familiar ‘stepped’ power function. LED’s replace screen functionality so expect heavier than usual button bashing to make any necessary changes to power and flavour quality.

q16 ff output

Finally, JustFog are touting the Q16FF as being flavour focused so I’ll be expecting plenty of it..

Inside the Box

The JustFog Q16FF comes in a basic cardboard box with the four available colour schemes shown on the front. Inside, the contents are placed in a moulded plastic tray.

JustFog Q16FF starter kit unboxing image

  • Battery (Q16FF Mod)
  • Tank (Q16FF)
  • 1.2ohm Q16FF coil
  • USB cable (Type C)
  • Instruction manual

The content list is misleading because the 1.2ohm Q16FF coil is included although not installed. It even has its own dedicated space within the plastic tray.

JustFog Q16FF Kit – Key Features

The Q16FF vertical coil is said to be flavour focused. I wasn’t able to discover the material used but it’s probably a standard round wire Kanthal build using organic cotton.

JustFog have bucked current plug and play trends and used a screw in coil, just as they did with the Q16 Pro.

The kit uses simple three step variable wattage to power the coil. The power is displayed via a series of LED’s. All three settings are said to retain a constant level of power regardless of battery strength.

An independent colour LED advises of current battery strength.

The Q16FF tank is top filling and incorporates dual adjustable bottom airflow. As well as being fully TPD compliant there’s also a child proof version available. (Q16FF-C)

The Mod has a series safety features built in to prevent malfunction. These include short circuit, over charge and over heating protection.

It comes in four colour schemes, Blue, Red, Silver and Black.

JustFog Q16FF Kit – Design and Build Quality

The Tank

The Q16FF tank is dinky with a diameter of 16mm. That’s probably where the number in the name originates.

The plastic drip tip is removable and includes a single O-ring. It didn’t take very long to find a shorter, more suitable alternative.

JustFog Q16FF starter kit tank with removeable drip tip imageFilling is achieved by turning the top cap in a clockwise direction as shown by the arrow. This will expose the fill port. It’s not the largest in the world but will accommodate bottle nozzles of the 10ml TPD variety.

JustFog Q16FF starter kit fill port opening arrow indicator imageRemember to twist the slider back again to prevent any potential leakage!

There’s dual adjustable airflow at the base of the tank. Restriction on one side is mirrored on the other. It’s a bit fiddly to use but the turning tolerances are pretty good to be fair.

JustFog Q16FF starter kit showing adjustable airflow in mid position imageThe QF16FF tank is comprised of plastic and Pyrex glass, held together by two substantial O rings, designed to keep things leak free.

Installing The Coil And Filling The Tank

  • Unscrew the deck clockwise to remove the tank from the base
  • JustFog Q16FF starter kit removing the deck from the tank imageScrew the coil clockwise into the deck making sure it’s finger tight
  • Pour e-liquid onto the cotton areas of the coil (this helps with wicking)
  • Screw the tank back on to the deck

JustFog have applied micro knurling around the deck which helps when changing the coil. There’s more at the top of the tank to facilitate filling.

  • Twist the top cap a quarter of a turn until the fill gasket is shown
  • Tilt the tank at a 45deg angle and gently pour e-liquid through the gasket
  • Turn the top cap back until the arrow sign is shown to fully seal the tank

Let the e-juice soak into the cotton for around five minutes before vaping.

The Battery

There’s very little size or weight to the battery so it oozes portability. Does that make it fragile? No – it doesn’t and actually feels quite solid and compact. The spray coat finish over the alloy frame is also consistently layered.

Being proprietary to the tank, the 510 connector isn’t spring loaded or even gold plated. The tank itself screws down without any crunching or squeaking but there’s still a slight gap between tank and battery. It’s nothing to lose sleep over..

JustFog Q16FF 510 connector on top of battery section image

The fire button is large and well positioned which makes it very comfortable to use. It also has a reassuring click when pressed.

JustFog Q16FF fire button and AFC ring shown imageA small horizontal colour LED is situated just above the fire button and shows current battery capacity.

  • White – 100 – 65%
  • Blue – 65 – 30%
  • Red – under 30%

An independent power button is situated at the base of the battery. Pressing this once will illuminate the vertically mounted power LED’s.

  • 1 LED – 9W
  • 2 LED – 11W
  • 3 LED – 13W

11W is currently running through the vertical mounted 1.2ohm coil

Pressing the power button increases or decreases the number of illuminated LED’s.

JustFog Q16FF power LED's and battery strength LED image
Running at maximum wattage with a freshly charged battery

Five clicks to turn the device on or off? Nope. With the Q16FF it’s four.. I guess JustFog like to be a bit different.

Further LED Functionality

  • The currently selected LED’s and battery strength indicator blink three times if the tank is incorrectly connected
  • The battery strength LED blinks red four times when charging is required
  • When connected via USB the battery strength LED shows current level of charge
  • In the event of a short circuit the battery strength LED cycles through white, blue and red

JustFog Q16FF Kit – How Does It Perform?

Given the design and build of the vertical 1.2ohm coil I would only suggest using a juice ratio of 50VG/50PG. I used Lumo Liquids Original C Cherry with a 3mg freebase content.

If any of these terms are over your head – have a read of our handy guides below!

JustFog Q16FF starter kit Q16ff 1.2ohm vertical coil pic 1

1 LED – 9W

I carried out my first test using the lowest setting and with adjustable airflow wide open. It was surprisingly strong and crackly and did offer a restrictive direct lung vape.

Air bubbles were dancing and popping so there were no issue with wicking with a thinner juice ratio.

The flavour quality wasn’t exactly vibrant or lively but restricting airflow to around half way did make a slight difference. Vapour production was satisfactory but a little less than I was expecting.

The JustFog Q16FF clearly isn’t going to cause too many distractions when out and about.

2 LED – 11W

I noticed a change in flavour quality. The cherry content of the e-juice was a bit more ‘flavour focused’ bringing out some of the sweetness but less of the fruit while still remaining a cool vape.

The best vape experience was gained with a 50% airflow restriction. This allowed a bit more flavour concentration – not by much but still noticeable on the exhale.

3 LED – 13W

JustFog Q16FF starter kit Q16FF 1.2ohm vertical coil pic 2It’s definitely the strongest setting in terms of output. Despite a few jumps in wattage it’s noticeable against the lowest setting.

As before the coil has no problem handling extended inhales and using a thinner e-juice prevents any dry hitting.

It’s also a very smooth all round vape with little turbulence and vapour production is non obtrusive. It’s on par with what an ex smoker would be expecting.

Unfortunately the flavour still isn’t very focused and it continues to leave me feeling disappointed.

Pros

  • Lightweight and very pocket friendly
  • Easy to fill on the go. The top slider is convenient and easy to use
  • Leak free
  • Bright LED’s visible in direct sunlight
  • User friendly to the newer vaper

Cons

  • Poor flavour quality across the three power settings
  • Average vapour production (subjective)
  • Exaggerated drip tip. It’s tall and loose fitting
  • Adjustable airflow can be a bit fiddly (subjective)
  • Bottom mounted USB port (subjective)
  • Not the fastest type C USB charging

Final Review Verdict

I was impressed with how the coil could handle long inhales. I’d have to say that JustFog are correct in their claims of a sustainable wattage output because it was strong and consistent.

I should reiterate the coil is best suited for 50VG/50PG juice ratios. I don’t recommending going above this.

Even when the battery charge dropped to under 30% it was still feisty and powerful for the limitations it has.

However, flavour quality across any of the wattage settings is quite poor. Simple, single flavours are generally quite intense but the JustFog Q16FF fails to deliver even the most basic of ingredients.

It felt like the coil had already reached the end of its active lifespan, making it dull and uninspiring, unfortunately.

The adjustable airflow settings do work quite well. It was possible to get a restrictive direct lung vape as well as a pretty effective MTL.

JustFog Q16FF starter kit comparison with JustFog Q16 Pro Kit
Top: JustFog Q16FF kit. Bottom: JustFog Q16 Pro kit.

Battery Performance

The 900mAh integrated battery did a good job.

It took two and a half hours for the white led to turn blue. It then lasted a further five and a half hours before turning red. At this point the battery provided ninety minutes before requiring a recharge.

So the average vaper can expect to harvest a full day’s use from a single charge. The output remains consistent at all stages of drain.

Type C charging isn’t quite so good, taking 90mins to complete. That’s when the white LED switches off.

Pass through charging is possible for those eager for a cheeky pull or two!

Recommendations

The JustFog Q16FF doesn’t really fall into the category of a fully fledged starter kit, even though appearances would suggest otherwise.

Why?

The wicking ports of the 1.2ohm vertical coil are the first indicators. The other is the copious amount of airflow possible. It offers a decent MTL vape for the new vaper. It also includes the option of a restrictive direct lung vape for the more experienced user.

So it’s a kit suitable for either type of casual vaper.

The design and build quality is generally very good and it maximises portability with a stealth like vape.

Unfortunately it doesn’t live up to the phrase of being flavour focused, which is a shame.

Today I’m taking a look at the Aspire Zelos X Kit. There have been a few versions of the Zelos kit over the last few years, tracing back to the Zelos 50W kit.zelos x banner

It made use of the characteristically charming Nautilus tank in its second incarnation. The design always reminded of the port holes on a boat.

To this day the Nautilus 1.8ohm BVC coil is still revered and often dubbed as the king of coils.

Aspire Zelos X Kit hand check picThe Zelos 50W kit was swiftly upgraded to V2 and featured the Nautilus 2S tank alongside a 0.4ohm BVC coil. This meant restrictive DTL vapers could now get in on the act.

The Zelos 3 and Zelos Nano were classed as starter kits, both aimed at the new vaper. Again the new Nautilus 3 tank offered fully adjustable MTL options powered by the latest 1.0ohm mesh coil.

We tell you what the terms MTL (Mouth To Lung) and DTL (Direct To Lung) mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.

The Aspire Zelos X doesn’t break any rules and that’s a very good thing. All the coils in the Nautilus series are compatible and the myriad of airflow options remain as before.

I think it’s time we took a closer look.

Aspire Zelos X Kit – What Can We Expect?

The first thing we can expect is a slight change of design. It’s the first time the Zelos has made use of an external 18650 battery and the appearance reflects this.zelos x components

As with the Aspire Zelos 3 Kit we still get the same maximum output of 80W. The various vaping modes have also been ported across. Even the same number of MTL airflow options are included with the revised Nautilus 322 tank.

The ever reliable top fill slider mechanic makes a welcome return as does the 0.96in TFT colour screen.

Aspire Zelos X Kit boxed imageTwo new mesh coils are included with the Aspire Zelos X kit.

The fire and menu buttons have a different shape and the display is radically different from the Zelos 3 kit too.

Type C USB charging has been relegated to the underside of the Mod.

..Maybe that’s a clever tactic to encourage the use of a dedicated external charger.

Given the relative power limitations of the coils expect a single 18650 battery to last anything up to a few days.

A wealth of airflow options will assure versatility when it comes to either a MTL or Restricted DTL vape.zelos x airflow

I’m also expecting to achieve a decent semi restrictive lung hit complete with bountiful vapour production.

Aspire Zelos X Kit – Inside the Box

It’s the usual well thought out packaging from Aspire. I’m a big fan of the left and right thumb cut outs because removing an outer carton has never been easier.

Nautilus 322 Tank

Aspire Nautilus 3(22) tank hand check pic 1It can be picked up separately in Gunmetal, Black or Stainless Steel. However, I have it on good authority it won’t be reaching UK shores.

Drip Tip, Top Cap and Slider

The tank uses 510 drip tips, each with their own embedded O-rings and spares are included. The bore is slightly narrower on the taller ‘top hat’ style MTL drip tip.
MTL and RL 510 drip tips of Aspire Nautilus 3(22) tankThe Steel top cap has a flattened dome appearance complete with rivet style knurling. Since it uses a ‘slide to open’ system it’s more of an aesthetical decision than anything else.

Aspire Nautilus 3(22) tank rivet knurling on top capSliding is super easy. Push forward on the red arrow to reveal the 7mm fill port opening. It should accommodate most bottle nozzles, that’s because none of it is obscured by the top cap.

Full kudos to Aspire.

The 510 Pin, Deck and Airflow Adjustment

Focusing attention on the underside of the tank, the gold plated 510 pin is surrounded by peak insulation. It doesn’t protrude and doesn’t need to. Don’t use the Aspire Nautilus 322 on a mechanical mod.

Aspire Zelos X Kit 510 pin and peak insulation on the Nautilus 3(22) tankMicro knurling sweeps around the base of the deck ensuring adequate grip when unscrewing.

To remove the deck, turn it in a clockwise direction. The threading is silky smooth with the absence of crunching or chirpy bird song effects!

The deck uses a single fixed 3mm diameter airflow port. The turning tolerance on the airflow control ring is extremely good. Not too loose and not too tight.

The options range from 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.5 and 3.0mm airflow inlet sizes.

There’s limited doming on the inner chimney of the tank. That suggests flavour intensity will be more reliant on the airflow control system itself.

Press Fit System with All Compatible Nautilus Coils

Aspire Zelos X Kit inner chimney and threading of Nautilus 3(22) tankAlthough the included coils are threaded for backwards compatibility, the Nautilus 322 tank uses a press fit system.

The O-ring compresses down to seat the coil into position. Outer threading on the deck ensures both tank and coil make a firm connection.

Aspire Nautilus coil using press fit tech of Nautilus 3(22) tankAs the deck screws back into place four valves open inside the tank to allow juice flow to the coil. When the coil is removed the valves automatically close, preventing the loss of any e-juice.

Aspire Zelos X Mod Section

The Mod is made of Zinc and Aluminium alloy. As well as being relatively light it’s also very slim.

The Nautilus 322 tank is front loaded on the Mod. To avoid overhang when using your own tanks make sure they don’t exceed 24mm diameter.

Aspire Zelos X spring loaded 510 contact on Mod

The Mod takes on the shape of two cylinders, merging at the centre. It doesn’t look like Aspire have wasted any space.

The display wraps around the front cylinder and hides behind the usual glossy black plastic viewing window. It’s prone to the usual smudge marks and finger prints too.

Aspire Zelos X Kit fire and menu button placement on Zelos X Mod

Above the screen area a 10mm fire button protrudes which feels a bit hollow when pressed.

An up and down menu rocker switch sits directly beneath the screen.

With a circumference of 20.8mm the battery retaining disc is quite small so be careful not to lose it. Release it by unscrewing in an anti-clockwise motion. Insert a 18650 battery with the positive end facing down.

Aspire Zelos X Kit battery door threading on ModThreading is more than adequate and takes around 4-5 turns to screw or unscrew.

I didn’t notice any battery rattle but a loose fitting fire button and menu rocker more than made up for that. Disappointing.

Aspire Zelos X Kit battery door cover disc and USB charging port

The underside of the Mod is also home to a recessed type C USB charging port. If you’re going to use this (suggested in emergencies only) remove the Nautilus 322 tank before doing so.

This will prevent potential leaking or dry hits caused by resting it in a horizontal position.

Aspire Zelos X Kit – How To Operate The Mod

Aspire Zelos X Kit initial boot screen of Zelos X Mod
Initial boot screen of Aspire Zelos X Mod

No smart coil detection is available with the Aspire Zelos X Mod. Remember to always adjust wattage, voltage or TC to levels that are suitable for a brand new coil before you vape, not after!

To do this simply press and hold the down button to rapidly decrease power values. In wattage mode for example, they can be increased or decreased in 0.5W increments. The opposite is also true to increase the value simply press the up button.

Aspire Zelos X Kit – Menu Functions

  • Press and hold the up and down buttons together to lock/unlock the adjustment buttons.
  • Press the fire button three times to lock/unlock the device.
  • Hold the fire and down button to adjust screen brightness.
  • Hold the fire and up button to enter the menu – then press the fire button to confirm your choice. There appears to be an error in the manual as it states to press the fire button 5 times to enter the menu – but this will result in turning the mod off!zelos x manual error
  • When the selected mode is flashing, press the up or down button to alter other parameters such as puff counter and wattage values.

The Smart ASP chip has all the usual safety features. These include vaping overtime protection, open and short circuit safeguards and prevention against overcharging and overheating.

Almost forgot!

  • Press the fire button five times repeatedly to turn the device on or off

..silly me! lol

Aspire Zelos X Kit – How Does It Perform?

Ok! Time to ‘fess up!

I managed to fry the 1.0ohm mesh coil whilst testing menu functionality. Note to self – Don’t mess around with temperature control in the presence of delicate MTL mesh coils..

In my defence it’s one of the reasons I never use temperature control. That’s my excuse, anyway and I’m sticking to it lol.

Nautilus 0.3ohm mesh coil (23-28W)

I carried out initial tests running the Mod in standard wattage mode at 25W. Bake ‘n’ vape Salted Caramel Fudge Doughnut was the flavour of choice. It has a juice ratio of 50VG/50PG. We tell you what PG and VG mean in our Guide To E-liquid.

This coil is suited to a loose MTL or restrictive DTL vape so I decided to use the widest airflow setting of 3mm.

Aspire Zelos X Kit restrictive direct lung airflow setting

There’s a humongous level of cloud production created on the widest airflow setting. It doesn’t take much of an inhale to achieve either which super impressed me.

However it’s far from the quietest of vapes despite any noticeable signs of airflow turbulence. The vape is very cool at 25W which has an impact on overall flavour richness and tone.

The Fudge and Doughnut ingredients are recognisable but the Caramel lacks richness and tastes more like Vanilla. I think it needs a bit more warmth to help create that dessert style vibe.

That would provide the extra dimension this e-juice needs. All that aside, it still delivers enough flavour to satisfy.

Voltage Mode

I swapped the dessert profile for a fruit one to see how the kit responded. I used Melon Twist Fruit by Frumist, a 10mg nic salt e-liquid with a 50VG/50PG ratio.

Aspire Zelos X kit Mod in voltage modeAs you can see by the picture, the display switches to the wattage equivalent in real time.

Don’t worry! I reduced the voltage to a sensible 3.7V before carrying out any tests.

It didn’t take long for the melon to kick in and neither was there any flavour ‘hangover’ to note.

The airflow was reduced by half to a 1.5mm setting. This stifled any attempts at a restrictive lung hit. It was still possible but just didn’t feel natural so I reverted to a MTL vape.

I was stuck between a rock and a vape place. There was still too much airflow for a successful MTL pull. The drip tip also became hot and uncomfortable even when reducing voltage.

However, when reducing the airflow further to 0.8mm things changed drastically. The vape was certainly in MTL territory and the 1.0mm setting was pitched perfect for just such a vape.

3.4V gave me a very comfortable vape and flavour replication was very good. The melon and creamy textures were all present, holding throughout the duration of the exhale.

Bypass Mode

The Mod fired an initial 3.72V with a new 18650 battery installed. This pushed the coil to maximum wattage parameters and the vape was very punchy, lively and chucking clouds like there was no tomorrow.

Aspire Zelos X Kit in bypass mode with new 18650 battery installedJust make sure the wicking ports are submerged or use a full tank otherwise there will be the chance of a dry hit or two.

Bypass mode made for another effective vape and I thoroughly enjoyed the clout a new 18650 battery provided. The restrictive DTL vape was also at its best on the widest pinhole setting, pulling out some excellent flavour intensity across the board with fruit, menthol and beverage profiles.

Of course, effectiveness wains as the battery dies. I always switch back to the usual wattage mode at around 50% and make any necessary adjustments.

Pros

  • Good battery life
  • No leaking
  • Good all round flavour using the 0.3ohm mesh coil
  • Great vapour production
  • Instantaneous and very responsive fire button
  • Slim design makes it very comfortable to hold

Cons

  • Battery retaining disc can be fiddly and easy to lose
  • Fire and rocker buttons are loose and shake in their housing
  • Lips make contact with top cap when using RDTL drip tip (subjective)
  • Not the best display in direct sunlight even on highest setting

Aspire Zelos X Kit – Final Review Verdict

The seven adjustable airflow slots are no gimmick. Although I was only able to test the 0.3ohm mesh coil designed predominantly for a restrictive lung hit, I was still able to use it for a MTL vape.

That shows the versatility of the Nautilus coil.

Flavour replication was clean and quite tasty even with a dessert inspired profile but the Aspire Zelos X kit really shines with fruit, beverage and menthol e-juice categories.

I was blown away by vapour production – it created more than I was expecting. Again, this can be reduced using a MTL airflow setting for when discretion needs to be the better part of vapour.

Although I never used Temperature Control or customisable power settings (CPS) the Wattage, Voltage and Bypass modes worked very well.

The 0.3ohm Nautilus mesh coil favoured the higher end of its capabilities working most effectively for me with a restrictive DTL vape.

Use 50VG/50PG juice ratios with the 1.0ohm mesh coil and anything up to 70VG/30PG with the 0.3ohm alternative.

Aspire Zelos X Kit hand check pic 3 The Nautilus 322 tank is flawless. I love the simple but elegant design. It’s built well and Aspire have even ensured that wider bottle nozzles will actually fit through the fill port of the perfectly functioning top cap.

The only cons are the usual negative, niggly Neil ones and they don’t affect the functionality of the device.

I’m also chuffed that Aspire decided to think outside of the box by utilising press fit technology with their current and previous range of Nautilus coils. This means compatibility across the board while so many other manufacturers take the path of plug and play.

It’s great to see the Nautilus coils holding onto their heritage.

Aspire Zelos X Kit – Who Is It Suited To?

The Aspire Zelos X kit doesn’t really limit its appeal.

It’s perfect for the new vaper already using a traditional starter pen and looking to upgrade their experiences with improved airflow patterns and broader flavour quality.

The convenient press fit system really helps with any transition.

The ‘intermediate newbie’ can make a short jump across into the world of restrictive lung vaping while also having the convenience of reverting to MTL should they choose.

Meanwhile, the kit also has enough going on to cater to the intermediate vaper. Someone that’s learning more about battery safety and trying to understand the benefits of Bypass or Voltage mode.

Heck! There’s even something for the advanced Temperature Control tinkerers out there.

The Aspire Zelos X Kit offers portability, reliability, functionality as well as a great flavour and cloud production.

This time I’m going to be taking a look at the new and just released Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank.

This is an interesting mouth to lung tank with an unusual and innovative feature.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini rdtl 15w

Wirice is a new company that has teamed up with Hellvape, there aren’t many details about Wirice, however they do say on their website that they are mainly focused on vape beginners, in providing them high-quality devices.

Our Harley took a look at their Launcher sub ohm tank in his fabulous review last year!

Hellvape are a well known and much respected company, that has bought us atomisers like the Fat Rabbit series of RDA and RTAs, they have a few regulated device like the Arez 120 and mech mods like the Trishul V2 mech and Trishul V2 semi mech.

What Can We Expect From the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini?

So what makes the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank different from other tanks of a similar MTL breed?

Well for one it has a unique top loading coil system that got my attention straight away!

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini checkhand

I do like good flavour and a fairly restricted draw, the launcher mini is exceptional in both these respects!

Wirice have released the Launcher Mini in 6 colours!Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini stock colours

This atomiser was sent to me from Hellvape for the purpose of review.

As always my thoughts and views are my own after a considerable testing period.

Design and Build Quality

The operation of the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini is very similar, to that of its big brother the Launcher sub ohm tank, just on a smaller scale.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini presentation of kit

This tank comes with a few extras: 2 coils, 1 spare glass tank and a Pack of O-rings.

Hellvape Wirice Launcher Tank

I was sent 2 of the standard Launcher Mini tanks in different colours to test, Stainless Steel and Gold.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini tank colors Gold and SS

The Launcher Mini measures in at 55.85mm tall, and with a diameter of 23mm, with a weight of just 55g the tank construction is Sus304, a stainless steel variant it has a fill capacity of 3ml or 2ml for the TPD version, the glass tank is Pyrex with an 810 Delrin mouthpiece.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini tank empty

The Launcher Mini dismantles into 7 parts, including the coil and mouthpiece.

Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank – Overview

Starting with the top loading coil and mouthpiece assembly.

This part unscrews from the top of the tank with aid of knurling, the coil slips into the chimney chamber to be pushed down with the shaft on to a spring loaded pin with the aid of the flat end of the assembly.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini assembly mouthpiece

The top cap has similar knurling, removing the cap will reveal the fill port which consists of 2 wide kidney shaped slots, the top cap has a rubber grommet that stops the liquid from leaking once the cap is back in place.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini cap top and reverse

The 3ml glass and the fill port are removable after the main body section has been unscrewed and removed.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini glass and fill port

Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank Airflow

The main body structure is all one piece and is made of Sus304, it has a long chimney chamber, and the main structure also holds the bottom airflow.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini body main

The tank has 5 different sized airflow bores which are

0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5 the largest slot measures 1.7 by 6.2mm and the airflow is operated by spinning the knurled airflow ring, which I have found to be a little tight.

The bottom or base of the main structure has all the usual information lightly engraved on to it.

Hellvape Wirice Launcher Tank Top Loading Coil System

This is very intriguing and innovative design!

Drop your coil down the chimney, screw down the mouthpiece assembly into the chimney, the coil will be seated on a gold plated spring loaded connection pin.

As you push and screw down the coil will push open the liquid valves.

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini valve spring loaded

If you look closely at the base of the chimney you will see the valves opening, likewise removing this section and the coil will close them, thereby you will lose very little liquid when changing coils.

T3 Series Coils

Two stock T3 Series coils come with the kit and the material they are made from is Kanthal A1.

  • 7Ω Mesh wire 14 to 18w
  • 2Ω Regular wire 8 to 13w

Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini both coils

The design, quality and manufacture of the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank is exemplary.

How Does the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank Perform?

I will be using both of the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini tanks in this review, the SS version with the 0.7Ω coil and Aquavape Raspberry E-liquid and the Gold version with the 1.2Ω coil and Oasis Big Apple E-liquid.

As for the mod I dug out my Joyetech Cuboid Mini 80w for this review.

A Basic Guide – How To Prepare the Launcher Mini Tank For Use

Choose which of the included coils you wish to use:

  • Prep your coil with a few drops of e-liquid on all exposed cotton and drop it into the chimney section and screw down the mouthpiece assembly.prep coil
  • Remove the top cap and fill with e-liquid.Wirice Hellvape Launcher Mini tank filling

Leave the tank standing for 2 or 3 minutes so the coil can soak up more liquid.

Screw the tank on your mod and enjoy.

Wirice Launcher Mini Tank In Use

As I have said before I’m not really one for mouth to lung vape these days, preferring a restricted direct to lung draw.

mtl 12w

However saying that I am constantly on the lookout for tank that can give me a better than average flavour quality – I believe I have found it here in the Launcher Mini.

T3 1.2Ω Coil

Let’s start with the Gold Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini tank and the 1.2Ω coil.

I first set the wattage of my Cuboid Mini to 9w and the airflow on the tank to 3rd hole which is 1.2mm.

 mtl 9w

To be fair I did get a nice cool mouth to lung vape with quite good flavour.

While I would call this air hole tight It’s not as tight as the smallest hole which I could not even pull a meagre amount of vapour through without sucking really hard!

I next set the airflow at the 4th hole which measures 1.5mm, I also upped the wattage to 12w the flow of vapour produced was descent for a mouth to lung draw and the flavour while not stellar was very tasty indeed.

T3 0.7Ω Coil

Using the Stainless Steel tank I inserted the 0.7Ω coil and opened the airflow up to the largest slot and set the wattage on my Cuboid Mini to 15w, wow what a difference!

I would refer to this vape as a low wattage restricted direct to lung, the vapour was exceedingly good and the flavour for me was out of this world, I could taste every note of the raspberry!

 rdtl 18w

Whacking the wattage up to the full 18w increased the warmth of the vape which was a nice surprise lol.

Liquid Capacity and Coil Longevity

I was sent 2 packs of coils along with the tanks, 3x 0.7Ω and 3x 1.2Ω coils but as of yet I haven’t had to change coils in either tank.

The tanks will hold 3ml of liquid each, in the time I have been testing these tanks (nearly 2 weeks) with the 0.7Ω coil, I have filled the tank 8 times and the flavour is still just as good.

 SS and Gold tanks

Wirice state that the coils will last over 8 fills I’m just waiting now for the coil to go home.

Pros

  • Extremely good quality of manufacture
  • Design is very good
  • Good vapour production
  • Very good flavour
  • Good airflow
  • Long lasting coils
  • RDTL 0.7Ω
  • MTL 1.2Ω

Cons

  • No Concerns with function of these tanks they do what they say on the tin!

If pushed and to be finicky, I’d say the airflow ring on both tanks are a wee tight to turn, and the ohms of the coil jumps around a bit.

Final Review Verdict

I’m impressed with the Top Loading Coil System!

If there is one thing I hate about any atomiser is touching the used coil and getting my fingers covered with E-liquid, with the Launcher Mini there is no worry of that, all you have to do is unscrew the mouth assembly and tip the coil out!

While MTL vaping isn’t my jam, the airflow is consistently smooth when using the 4th and 5th holes, the biggest hole is very much my thing producing a very nice restricted direct to lung draw.

Would I recommend the Hellvape Wirice Launcher Mini Tank?

This tank would be great for those new to vaping or for those times where you want a tighter vape, the tank is simple to use and maintain, so yes I would recommend it!

Would I buy this tank again due loss or damage?

I think for me personally No, however now that I have had the experience with this tank, I’m more inclined to go and buy its sub ohm bigger brother!

The Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA review marks virgin territory for me, although I’m well aware of their products I’ve never used one, so I have no idea as to what to expect.

Digiflavor is a Shenzen based manufacturer who were established back in 2016 by parent company Geekvape, with the moto of “It’s time to make the world better” it wasn’t long before their first Siren MTL tank hit the vape market.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA hand check pic 1

In 2017 the Digiflavor Siren 25 GTA, a dedicated single coil MTL RTA was released boasting a 5ml juice capacity. Reviewer John Summers was pretty smitten with it.

A year later, our Laura-ann Burgess took us through the ins and outs of the Siren 2 GTA. The reduced tank capacity was more than compensated for by an upgraded build deck. This meant more room for a larger coil – it was even possible to achieve a restrictive direct lung vape.

In 2020 the Siren 3 GTA made a guest appearance as part of the Digiflavor Z1 SBS kit. The side mounted screws were ditched in favour of top mounted. This improved the build process by making coil installation much simpler.

It’s been said that Geekvape created Digiflavor as a way of catering exclusively for the MTL vaper.

The Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA certainly galvanises that ideology by going full circle. It repeats the same width, GTA style build deck and two post design of the five year old original.

What Can We Expect From the Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA?

It looks like the build deck will accommodate anything up to a 3mm inner diameter coil.

So we shouldn’t necessarily expect to be running with ultra low wattage typically associated with MTL vaping, that’s the fun of experimenting with coil builds.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA boxed image

The tiny yet well balanced honeycomb airflow structure built into the deck will have an impact on cloud production.

It’s likely to be improved somewhat if using micro coils or diameters of around 2 – 2.5mm. So expect coil sizes to have an impact.

The height of the tank has been shrunk over previous versions. Expect step doming and close proximity of the coil to the drip tip to increase and concentrate the flavour.

Inside the Box

I’m sure this is a review edition so the external packaging is likely to differ should you decide to partake.

An outer sleeve features a simplistic Digiflavor logo with branding on either side.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA unboxed

Removing this reveals the inner packaging and a lid that’s easily pulled off. Inside we get:

  • Siren V4 MTL RTA
  • Clapton Ni80 1.2ohm coil
  • Fused Clapton Ni80 1.4ohm coil
  • Braided coil KA1 0.65ohm
  • Fused Clapton SS316L 1.0ohm coil
  • 4 x cotton aglet
  • Spare 510 drip tip
  • Accessory bag
  • Instruction manual

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA – Key Features

It features a raised GTA style build deck for efficient under coil wicking and improved flavour.

A top mounted post screw and clamp design make installing and trimming the coil much easier.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA logo on side of packaging

The semi hidden linear bottom airflow has been designed for even distribution of airflow while also preventing leakage. The AFC ring incorporates a red marker to denote the level of MTL airflow restriction.

Micro knurling has been etched into the tank in various places, allowing for easy removal of parts for maintenance and cleaning.

There’s a choice of four different colour schemes which are Black, Stainless steel, Rainbow and Gunmetal (under review).

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA – Specifications

I noticed some confusion as to the height of the RTA when checking with various sites.

There seemed to be some conflicting specs, most probably due to including the drip tip with their calculations.

  • Material Stainless steel
  • Weight 43g
  • Height 28.5mm (without drip tip)
  • Diameter 22mm
  • Tank material PEI
  • Tank capacity 2ml
  • Airflow Adjustable
  • Deck Single coil two post GTA design
  • Thread 510

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA – Design and Build Quality

It’s been suggested in the past that earlier versions of the RTA have also been able to offer a restrictive direct lung vape.

Nothing of the design and build quality of this latest offering would suggest anything other than a dedicated MTL vaping product.

To begin with there’s the radical difference in height. From the top cap to the underside of the deck the tank measures a mere 28.5mm.

That doesn’t make it much taller than my beloved OFRF Gear RTA – my all time favourite single coil MTL device.

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA Drip Tips

Pick from a choice of two, and thank vape heaven for that because the extended drip tip is a complete monstrosity.

At around 23mm in height it looks totally out of place and does much to tarnish the aesthetics of the tank.

The narrow bores of both measure around 3mm so heavy airflow restriction is the order of the day from these 510 drip tips.

Two O rings are included so they both sit snug inside the catch cup of the top cap. This does mean you can replace either with a choice of your own – I did!

510 Connector Pin

The gold plated 510 connector protrudes and is surrounded by a thin ring of peak insulation.

It will allow for coupling with a hybrid mod if that’s your bag.

A MTL device on a hybrid mod? Nah – not for me..

On the base is the Digiflavor logo alongside the product serial number.

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA Top Cap and Fill Ports

It’s a very tidy arrangement with the top cap, facilitated by some fine micro knurling. The threading is butter smooth and very well engineered.

It only takes a few counter clockwise turns to release the top cap. There was a distinct absence of grinding, crunching or squeaking – great build quality.

The steel plating on the underside has a finish as smooth as glass although I did notice a degree of chatter around the fill ports themselves.

The Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA incorporates two kidney shaped fill ports each measuring approximately 7mm wide. There shouldn’t be any issues with bottle nozzle sizes.

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA Airflow Design

This one had me flummoxed to begin with!

Although there’s airflow adjustability, I couldn’t quite fathom out how it worked.

It wasn’t until I removed the AFC ring that it made any sense.

There are a series of “hidden” airflow slots that sit behind the control ring. They’re all the same size and representative of the Digiflavor Linear airflow structure.

The AFC ring has a notch carved into its side so when positioned will open or close the airflow slots. The external red marker indicates the degree of restriction.

The Tank

It’s 2ml in line with current TPD regulations and made from PEI which is similar to PEEK material but less resistant to higher temperatures.

As a thermoplastic it’s usually transparent or amber in colour with a high degree of rigidity.

I’ve two issues with this tank. First it lacks much of a viewing window and secondly it’s difficult to gauge just how much of the tank has been filled.

I’m forced to squint down the fill port to check the levels. I couldn’t find any way of removing the PEI for cleaning either. So maybe that should read three issues lol.

Inside the Tank

It’s more a case of stepped doming on the inner chimney and maybe a little less than I was expecting.

The machine quality here though is top notch and looks very high end.

There are three juice flow ports incorporated around the inner threading allowing juice to drop beneath the raised deck. The cotton wicks are perpetually gravity fed.

GTA Style Build Deck

Now we move onto the star of the show, the build deck.

It retains the same GTA style as its predecessors, and by being raised it allows the wicks to be fed from a 5mm deep juice well surrounding it.

The two slotted post screws are gold plated but look soft and fragile. Only time will tell if they are easily stripped. They also look a little out of place but since they’re hidden it’s no real biggie.

In the centre of the deck sits a circular honeycomb airflow intake, the strength of which is influenced via the Linear AFC ring.

On either side of this are the juice wicking ports, constantly supplied by that deep juice well.

Hopefully!

I’m not the best and certainly not the most patient given that my eyesight is rapidly failing me! lol

First things first. Remove the deck from the tank by unscrewing clockwise.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA unscrewing the post screws

Loosen both post screws so that the coil legs are able to pass through the clamps.

Position the coil legs through the clamps and carefully tighten the post screws.

The coil needs to be sitting directly above the air intake and at a height of around 2mm off the deck.

RTA coil positioning inside post clamps

Trim away the excess of coil leg as close to the sides of the build deck as possible. This will avoid any possible shorting through contact with the inner chimney.

RTA trimming the coil legs flush

Preferably using a dedicated build tab slowly dry pulse the coil. Ensure all hot spots are removed. If they persist try strumming the coil surface with an appropriate tool.

The coil needs to heat up evenly from the centre outwards.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA test firing the coilOnce the coil has cooled down pass a cotton aglet through its centre. Make sure it fits snug but not so tight as to deform the coil.

Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA pulling the cotton through the coilTrim the cotton aglet to a length that allows it to sit within the juice wicking ports. You won’t need much and you shouldn’t need to thin/rake it.

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA – How Does It Perform?

Before we move onto flavour and cloud replication I feel I must mention the included coils.

They’re very soft and malleable which makes them prone to damage.

RTA MTL fused Clapton and Clapton included coils

Because of this I had a nightmare trying to install them. It wasn’t helped by the post clamp system as there was no way of holding them in place. On multiple occasions the coil legs simply pulled free.

When I finally did manage to secure them the level of distortion had rendered them useless. Any attempts at straightening them proved fruitless.

For this reason I opted to use my own MTL coil which was more robust.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s rare for a manufacturer to be so generous with coils but they just didn’t work for this impatient bugger!

Digiflavor Siren V4 Flavour and Cloud Production

The coil used was a Wotofo fused Clapton with an inner diameter of 2.5mm. It’s the smallest coil I could find but was a good fit for the build deck.

I used Riot Squad Sweet Strawberry which contained a hybrid nicotine content. I coupled it with the Voopoo Drag X Plus Pro running at 20W.

With airflow wide open I did notice a minor degree of turbulence but no spit back so that was a positive start, any attempts at a restrictive lung hit fell on very un-vape like ground.

– That’s to say it caused a few nasty coughing fits.

On this setting the flavour was already sparkling with lots of clarity, strawberry notes were clean and tasty.

I couldn’t even suggest this to be an airy MTL, it was just a very good starting point.

Other Airflow Adjustments

I dialed the airflow down to around mid restriction.

The tank began making more crackling sounds but again the flavour held up fantastically well.

This setting pretty much provided the perfect MTL vape.

I was able to recycle more of the vapour instead of it escaping out into the surrounding air. It was both was light and wispy, something any reformed smoker will appreciate.

So there was a accurate representation of the draw from a cigarette. It had a slight throat kick on this wattage setting but vapour production still remained discreet.

When closing the airflow further the vape was a little too tight but not enough to put the vape hardened MTL vaper off.

I felt the flavour starting to become more suppressed although still very good with the cooling agent tickling the taste buds.

It would also become a bit on the harsh side. I did notice mild throat irritation despite the hybrid nicotine content. The smoothness of an open airflow draw had certainly been lost.

I would recommend using juice ratios of 50VG/50PG in general with the Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA, it’s perfectly suited for the size of coils the build deck caters for.

Just for interest value I tried a 70VG/30PG juice and it didn’t take long for a nasty dry hit to singe the back of the throat. I never learn!

Digiflavor Siren V4 Airflow Observations

The Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA delivers all the airflow options you could ask for.

They range from a slightly airy draw that refuses to cross over into restrictive lung territory to the classic MTL vape well known to any recently converted smoker.

One of the most impressive observations was the accuracy of adjustment when using the Linear style AFC ring. It’s been honed to perfection making it possible to notice airflow differences even with the slightest of tweaks.

None of the airflow options seemed to have too much of an impact on flavour quality either.

Admittedly there was some dilution at higher restriction but by then the vape was too tight to be of use anyway.

Pros

  • Compact design
  • Great build quality – knurling, threading and machining
  • Excellent flavour and cloud production
  • Adjustable linear airflow works an absolute treat
  • No leaking

Cons

  • Difficulty in securing coil under post screws
  • Having to remove the tank from the mod to make airflow adjustments
  • The extended drip tip (subjective)
  • The lack of a viewing window

Final Review Verdict

As previously mentioned I had my fair share of woes installing a coil on the build deck. What normally takes five minutes ended up taking over half an hour.

All because the post screws were failing to clamp the coil down. To add insult to injury the soft gold plated flat head screws were already showing signs of wear and tear.

I think grub screws with standard post holes would have worked much better.

Airflow adjustment was impossible without removing the tank from the mod. I found this a massive annoyance because I’m one for tinkering, and it really shouldn’t be a thing these days.

For a tank that’s design so well I have no idea what Digiflavor were thinking about with the extended drip tip, it’s almost farcical. Either that or I’m just being the usual stick in the mud.

Digiflavor Siren V4 MTL RTA – Overall Performance

What it ultimately comes down to is performance and the Digiflavor Siren V4 RTA delivers by the vape load.

It provides one of the most satisfying MTL vapes I’ve experienced so far in 2021. This is due to the combination of airflow options, consistent flavour across those options and extremely well balanced vapour production.

The honeycomb intake ensures plenty of controlled airflow distribution under the coil which sits not far away from the drip tip itself. Combine this with some pin point tweaking of the airflow control ring and we’re onto a winner as far as flavour properties are concerned.

It’s not for the new vaper by any stretch.

It’s for someone that has knowledge of building, and for those tired of trying to source stock coils for their preferred MTL tank.

Above all it’s for anyone that craves consistency to their flavour across a multitude of mouth to lung airflow options.

So is it better than my beloved OFRF Gear RTA? Hmmmmm…

The excellent flavour qualities are matched to be honest, buthe Digiflavor Siren MTL RTA wins when it comes to build quality.

Digiflavor deliver delights with this one.
