1. Geekvape Aegis Mini (Editors Choice)

Best small vape mod - editors choice - Aegis Mini
The Aegis line of mods are one of our favourites. Luckily Geekvape decided to make a mini version. If you aren’t familiar with the Aegis, their big selling point is how hard wearing they are with IP67 waterproof rating as well as being shockproof and dustproof.

It’s a mod even the clumsiest vaper will struggle to break but what Geekvape have managed to do is wrap it all up with a great looking design. The OLED screen is big and clear and the internal 2200mAh battery offers some lengthy vaping times.

The quality is second to none with leather grip and replaceable panels should you decide you fancy a change of colour, or scratch them from the occasional drop.

The Aegis Mini can be vaped upto 80W, so fine for most sub ohm vapers but it also works well when paired with a mouth to lung vape tank that doesn’t need oodles of power. This will stretch the battery life even further.

Safe to say this angry proof device is one of our favourite mini mods of the moment.

Features

  • Dimensions: 30.6mm by 58.5mm by 78mm
  • IP67 Waterproof | Dustproof | Shockproof
  • 2200mAh Battery makes for long battery life
  • Good for all levels of vaper

2. Voopoo Argus MT (Best Small Mod With Internal Battery)

voopoo argus mt kit limeVOOPOO are one of the biggest brands in the vape world and the products they release are quality. This is true for the VOOPOO Argus XT and MT mods.

There are two options available in this device, the integrated battery and replaceable battery option. Both excellent choices.

The Argus XT is compatible with 18650/21700 batteries (not included in kit), while the Argus MT features a built in 3000mAh battery.

Both are capable of powering upto 100W with the only difference between the two is size. Not much in it though.

Both are nice and compact in the hand, the tank (MAAT Tank New) that comes with the kit version is also very good if a new tank is needed.

An overall great performer as well as looking the part.

3. Innokin CoolFire Z50 (Best Mini Innokin Mod)

Innokin Coolfire Z50 article headThis is one good looking device. The Innokin Z50 is a very compact 50W mod measuring in at just 26mm x 33mm x 69mm (without the tank). Despite the size it still manages to fit a beautiful OLED screen and an impressive 2100mAh battery.

The mod is superb in terms of build quality and will keep up with the majority of tanks on the market. As long as you aren’t pushing the 50W max too much of course.

The kit version comes with the Zlide tank which performs well for the mouth to lung vapers out there. You can of course switch to any other tank as long as it’s within the parameter of the mod.

One for vapers who like clear and easy functions with a large splash of good looks thrown in.

Features

  • Dimensions: 26mm x 33mm x 69mm
  • 2100 mAh Battery capacity
  • Tiny mod
  • Superb build quality
  • Up to 50w output power

4. Vaporesso GTX One (Best For Beginners)

vaporesso gtx one kit header articleThe Vaporesso GTX One is more of a slim mod than a tiny compact mod like the Innokin Z50. But it’s still pocket friendly, that’s why it’s made the list.

With a built in 2000mAh battery and 40W max output this is one for the mouth to lung vapers or the lower wattage sub ohm vapers amongst us.

When it comes to design and build quality top marks all round. Not a kit you would be embarrassed about whipping out in public!

The kit version also includes the GTX 18 MTL tank which is a perfect partner and almost scored top marke in our review when it came to flavour. The reviewer is a picky sort as well 🙂

Features

  • Dimensions: 83.6 x 29.3 x 22.7mm
  • Great form factor & build quality
  • Easy to setup and use for all levels of vaper
  • 2000mAh integrated battery – (Good battery life for mouth to lung vapers)
  • Upto 40w output power
  • Excellent flavour from the tank (If you go for the kit)

5. Jacvapour Series B DNA75 (Best Small DNA Box Mod)

JAC Vapour Series B DNA75 Black EditionThe Series B DNA75 is the follow up to the Series B mod that is also included below. This time around Jacvapour aren’t pulling any punches with the Series B DNA75. The mod features the excellent eVolv DNA chipset this offers supreme functionality and performance.

Not to mention it’s also one of the smallest DNA mods available.

If you are an advanced vaper that is looking for plenty of customisable options on your vape and don’t need ‘too much’ power then this is a device well worth looking at.

Features

  • Dimensions: 88mm x 22mm x 35mm
  • eVolv DNA chip under the hood
  • Superb build quality
  • Compact mod
  • Up to 75w output power
  • Temp Control functionality
  • Bright and clear OLED screen
  • Takes a single 18650 battery, not included

6. Aspire Reax Mini (Best Low Wattage Vape Mod)

aspire reax mini - best mini box mod for low wattage vapersThis new kit from Aspire aims for simplicity and is one mainly for the mouth to lung vapers out there. Although the Tigon tank it comes with does offer a sub ohm coil as well.

It offers just 6 wattage settings ranging from 8W-16W. The control for this function is hidden away on the base of the mod, keeping the rest of the design simple and clean.

The Reax Mini is one comfortable mod to hold in the hand and almost disappears in the palm, hand size dependent of course 🙂

The integrated 1600mAh battery offers good battery life.

Features

  • Dimensions (Mod Only): 70mm x 31.5mm x 29.6mm
  • Wattage controls on base of mod
  • 2 Coil types come with tank
  • 1600mAh Integrated battery
  • Simple yet classy design

7. Innokin EZ Watt (Best No Fuss Small Mod)

best compact mod for beginners - innokin ez wattThe Innokin EZ Watt is, as the name suggest, easy to use! Yes, this is a superb vape mod for beginners or those looking for a no nonsense mod.

There is no temp control functionality here, this mini box mod is targeted towards vapers that want a straight forward, easy to use vape device. 35W is plenty for many vapers but if you are going to go below 0.5 Ohms then you ‘may’ be better off looking at a mod with an increased power output.

The 1500mAh battery, on paper, may not look as good as some of the other mods but we found the battery life to be very good with mouth to lung tanks at around 20W.

The size and weight is just right as well, the EZ Watt sits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

Features

  • Size: 118mm x 22mm x 32mm
  • Weight: 125g
  • 35w maximum power output
  • Quality build and lightweight
  • Suitable for beginners
  • 1500mAh Battery
  • Easy for newer vapers to use

8. OBS Cube Mini (Best Design)

OBS Cube Mini - Best deisgned mini mod
The OBS Cube came out of nowhere and immediately impressed vapers around the world. The Mini version soon followed keeping its classic cube looks.

Another that gets top marks in the looks department. The Cube Mini features a 1500mAh integrated battery and is capable of powering upto 25W.

The Cube Mini sub ohm tank actually doubles as a mouth to lung and sub ohm device and offers top performance with both.

We really liked the original Cube mod by OBS and the new more compact body is now winning us over too.

Features

  • Great design
  • Mod Dimensions: 71mm X 26mm X 26mm
  • 1-25W
  • Superb build quality
  • 1500mAh integrated battery
  • 0.6Ohm-3.0Ohm resistance compatibility
  • In built 1500 mAh battery rechargeable via USB

So there you have 9 of the best mini vape mods available on the market today.

These offer a combination of stealthy form factor, power and in some cases temperature control and in some cases inbuilt rechargeable batteries for convenience.

What they all do have in common is ease of use and a stealthy vape!

If you are considering one of the smaller vape mods, just keep this in mind.

The smallest of the small vape devices do have limited battery life, especially if you are sub ohm vaping.

If you are using a mouth to lung tank such as the Innokin Zenith that requires less wattage to run, they will of course last a lot longer.

So, unless you are a very light vaper, we would recommend mini mods with built in batteries be used as a secondary, or complementary device to your main vape.

In for review is the Eleaf iStick Pico Le mod.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le hand check image

Eleaf were established over a decade ago in Shenzhen, China with a firm emphasis on delivering quality and value.

Their slogan has always been ‘Simply smart’ and that tends to be reflected in their huge back catalogue. With the Eleaf iStick Pico Le review we’re once again reminded of simplicity but with a few smart features included.

I remember being the proud owner of the iStick 30W Mod. To me it was simply smart, combining lightweight alloy with a sleek chrome trim. They were one of the first when it came to small vape mods back in the day.

..Far superior in looks to the humble CE4 clearomiser it was twinned with.

The iStick range went on to boast larger, more powerful Mods with integrated temperature control.

Let’s take a look.

What Can We Expect From the Eleaf iStick Pico Le Mod?

In terms of design and build quality we can expect pretty much the same as other Pico devices already released. The Eleaf iStick Pico Le retains the same stumpy box Mod appearance of its predecessors.

pico LE banner

A Pico isn’t a Pico without the trademark battery screw cap.

Removing and replacing an 18650 battery has never been easier which galvanises the simplicity Eleaf adopts with their designs. The same can be said of the menu screen and general functionality.

pico le components

The Pico range has steadily evolved from its humble beginnings as a 75W device to squonk versions capable of handling up to 100W.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le with Eleaf logo on surface of chrome trimI’ve received a standalone version of the Pico Le Mod. In kit form it comes packaged with the GX tank and AST steel mesh GX coils.

The chipset of the Mod has been configured to prevent the GX coils from dry burning.

We can expect the same power modes of previous versions. These include the usual suspects – variable wattage and temperature control for Titanium, Nickel and Stainless Steel.

Inside The Box

The Eleaf trademark green splash is evident around the front and side of the outer carton. So is the silver trim which represents the chrome plated finish of the Mod itself.

The Pico Le sits within a foam tray and underneath this a few extras can be found.

  • iStick Pico Le mod
  • USB Type C charging cable
  • Instruction manual
  • Warranty card
  • Battery safety card

Eleaf iStick Pico Le unboxing image

The battery safety card isn’t mentioned on the box but I commend Eleaf for including one.

They’re pretty rare but battery safety is very important.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le battery safety card
It’s always nice to see a battery safety card included. It raises awareness of how to handle and use them safely.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le Mod – Key Features

The Eleaf iStick Pico Le Mod is very lightweight and compact which makes it pocket friendly. A single 18650 battery is top mounted so it’s far easier to remove or replace.

pico le charging

Fast (2 Amp) Type C USB charging is integrated allowing those without an external charger to bring a spent battery back to life relatively quickly.

A 0.49″ OLED screen displays all the information a vaper needs while tinkering with settings.

The centred 510 connector will accommodate tank sizes of up to 26mm without overhang.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le – Design and Build Quality

First things first I’m not a lover of chrome plated finishing on any device. From an aesthetical point of view it does look sleek and classy but under everyday use it’s another thing.

It didn’t take long for smudge marks and fingerprints to appear. After a few days the chrome was also scratched up in places.

Call me cynical but chrome isn’t a very practical option for a device that’s highly portable and pocket friendly.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le side view image showing leather like finish with stitching

The leather like finish is another story all together.

It’s stretched to fit seamlessly under the chrome ‘U’ frame. I’ll be able to tell over the course of time whether the stitching plucks or frays. Generally speaking the leather padding makes the Pico Le very comfortable to hold and grip.

Le Underside

The underside of the Pico Le has a slight recession allowing the battery much needed venting space even when stood vertically.

Nice touch, Eleaf!

The four star drive screws look a little unsightly but at least they’re hidden away from view.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le underside of Mod showing battery venting

This is one area where general wear and tear is going to take its toll very early on. Scratches and nicks to the chrome are par for the course but will prematurely age the Mod.

Le Top

The gold plated 510 connector is spring loaded. It’s sensibly placed and looks able to accommodate tank sizes of up to 26mm without unsightly over hang.

The perimeter of the 510 pin has four recesses allowing the use of older air fed tanks.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le top of Mod showing 510 connector with battery cap attachedNo Eleaf Pico Mod would be complete without the signature top mounted battery and cap.

What’s it like in use?

The cap uses male threading and it takes around six turns to remove or tighten it.

It’s a very quick and painless process. There’s even micro knurling at the top and bottom to help things along.

That’s another nice touch, Eleaf!

Eleaf iStick Pico Le threaded battery cap removedThere’s a large red plus sign at the base of the mod and a minus stamped on the underside of the cap to help with battery orientation.

My single 18650 re-wrapped battery slipped into place with no issue and the cap was screwed down within seconds.

No battery rattle is present and the extra weight to the Mod really does make it feel solid and compact in the hand.

Le Front

The fire button measures around 11mm squared and although clicky is also a bit loud and hollow sounding.

A 0.49″ OLED screen sits beneath the fire button, slap bang centre on the front panel. Below this is a single rocker button and the recessed type C USB charging port.

This recess is yet another good design choice and will prevent the connections from impact damage.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le front view of mod showing screen fire and menu buttons

Le Menu Functionality

It’s the usual five clicks to turn the Mod on or off.

The Mod fires up instantaneously but there’s a slight delay as the chip reads the current battery level. It’s no big deal but still needs to be mentioned.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le typical boot up screen
Typical boot up screen of the Eleaf iStick Pico Le
  • Press the fire button three times to enter the settings screen
  • Use the left or right menu rocker button to scroll between Power (variable wattage), Nickel, Titanium, stainless steel, TCR value or system settings

When in system settings the following options are available

  • Turn the screen on/off while vaping
  • Pre heat the coil by 35% over a three second value
  • Maximum vaping time per puff
  • Set the TCR value for M1 mode
  • Show software and hardware version
  • Restore factory defaults
  • Home screen setting. Choose from Voltage, Puff or Wave

AST Mode

This is designed to work when the Mod is purchased in kit form with the Eleaf GX tank. The chip automatically detects when the tank is empty and prevents the coil from firing, stopping the likelihood of a dry hit.

  • Press the fire and right menu rocker buttons together to turn AST dry proofing on or off

Le Other Functions

While the device is in standby press the left and right rocker buttons together to lock or unlock the Mod. Be aware this only stops menu functionality. It’s still possible to vape when the Mod is locked.

It’s also worth pointing out the Mod will auto select the current setting if left idle for a period of ten seconds.

During a charge the battery icon will continuously flash. The screen switches off once the Mod is fully charged.

Le ‘sometimes boring but important part’

The Eleaf iStick Pico Le comes with a host of built in safety features. The screen will display the following information in the event of a safety issue.

  • Check Coil – No atomiser connected
  • Max Power – If a coil resistance is above 1.0ohm the max wattage is 20W
  • Low Voltage – When the battery voltage falls below 3.1V the Mod will auto lock. Charge the battery to continue use
  • Short – When the resistance of the coil falls below 0.1ohm or 0.05ohm in TC mode
  • Over 10S – Vaping time has exceeded 10 seconds. Power to the Mod shuts off
  • Too hot – When the temperature of the Mod exceeds usage parameters
  • Weak power – When the battery continues to function at 2.9V or less

Eleaf iStick Pico Le Mod – How Does It Perform?

I tried a few different attys but eventually settled on my Serpent SMM single coil RTA.

I used a fused Clapton coil with a resistance value of 0.3ohm and ran the Mod at 50W throughout the test phase.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le with test atty imageThe Mod handles variable wattage well. Each vape consistently delivered a powerful hit and was sustainable over various lengths of exhale. I never use temperature control but would have checked the Mods efficiency had I received the GX tank and AST steel coil.

Voltage mode isn’t available but it’s possible to change settings so that it’s constantly displayed. I always appreciate that feature because voltage helps me track down an ideal sweet spot.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le showing voltage output image

Based on my own experiences I would suggest a wattage range of between 20 – 55W while using the Pico Le. So mouth to lung (MTL) and lower powered direct to lung (DTL) sub ohm tanks will be ideal.

We tell you what MTL and DTL mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

Ergonomics

The Pico Le is slim enough to slip into a trouser pocket. With an atty attached I just about got away with using a shirt pocket.

It’s comfortable to hold and I had a natural tendency to cradle the bottom with a pinkie. The Mod was more comfortable when finger firing with the screen facing outwards.

Around 12mm of the battery protrudes from the top of the Mod. I’m wondering if that actually helps with weight distribution – I’m no physician! lol

It stands comfortably on any surface and won’t tumble over very easily. An atty can also remain in place during the charge cycle.

Eleaf iStick Pico Le showing gap between 510 plate and atty when screwed down image
It’s a minor issue but none of the attys I used screwed flush with the 510 plate.

Battery Management

I got a respectable five and a half hours battery life running the Serpent RTA at 50W.

The Mod was still delivering significant clout at 50% charge. It was only really towards the last half hour or so that I noticed flavour degradation.

Even then the vapour production was still impressive, holding up right to the last possible vape.

As a rule I never charge external batteries inside a Mod but I made an exception with the Pico Le. It took an hour for the battery charge icon to fill.

It then took another thirty minutes for the Mod to switch off and in accordance to the instruction manual.

That’s more than acceptable given the uptime you can expect to receive in return, especially if vaping at lower wattage than I did during the test phase. It’s also possible to vape while charging which is always a plus.

Pros

  • Compact, lightweight and pocket friendly
  • Good chip / battery performance
  • A powerful and punchy vape at 50W using my tank of choice
  • Easy to navigate menu screens
  • Able to charge in an upright position
  • Pass through charging (vape during the charge cycle)

Cons

  • Chrome plating scratches very easily and attracts fingerprints and grease
  • Minor gap between 510 plate and tank when screwed down
  • Erratic battery strength icon
  • Screen can be difficult to read in direct sunlight

Eleaf iStick Pico Le Mod – Final Review Verdict

My biggest problem is with the aesthetics of the Mod. As much as chrome plating has a sleek appearance it comes with the inevitable caveat.

As predicted it took less than a day to scratch up and the grease and finger prints mounted by the hour. That does tend to prematurely age any new device, the Eleaf iStick Pico Le included.

I would have ditched the animated ‘wave’ graphic entirely in favour of a real time voltage reading or vape time since there’s so little real estate on offer.

I didn’t test the temperature control feature but had no issues with how the Mod performed using variable wattage mode. The 50 watts of power I used held up well for the majority of the battery life and flavour and cloud production were great.

The Pico Le would be highly suited to someone considering their first box Mod. It’s for someone already used to slipping a vape device in their pocket. It’s for someone that’s maybe looking for more versatility than a generic pod kit.

The limited number of features on offer won’t intimidate either so that’s another potential plus. It’s also a pretty good introduction to temperature control when purchased with the GX tank using AST mode.

As a potential upgrade in the range? There are a few design tweaks but if you’re happy with what you’ve already got the minor changes don’t really justify it.

For someone considering the Eleaf iStick Pico Le it’s going to offer reliability, ease of use, portability and a very consistent vape over the lifespan of each and every charge.

The Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Kit is an update to the original Mini iStick from 2015.

mini istick 2 main image

Eleaf has been around for an age and have produced some classic vape gear including the legendary Pico series, the iJust 21700, the powerful Invoke and of course the iCare range of pod kits.

What Can We Expect From The Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Kit?

So has the Eleaf Mini iStick 2 benefited from some major updates or is it just a bit of a facelift?

Firstly – the battery capacity is the same as the original but the output has increased.

mini istick 2 banner

The original had a Variable Voltage output and the max wattage was 10W. However the new version has Variable Wattage and Variable Voltage adjustment from 1-25W / 1-5V.

Plus there is now a USB Type C port which will recharge the 1050mAh battery in around 30 minutes at a fast 2A charge rate.

Also the screen has changed location – on the original it was located on the top of the mod – but for this version it is now mounted on the side of the mod below the fire button.

Activation is either by pressing the fire button or you can use the auto draw feature which senses the vacuum as you inhale and switches on the fire operation automatically.

mini istick 2 draw button fire

The mod and tank both have a standard 510 connection so you can use both of these with other 510 compatible devices.

Included in the kit is the GS Air 4 tank which is the third update to previous GS Air tanks.

All of the existing GS Air coils are compatible but the kit includes the GS-A 0.8ohm (AST) coil and the GS Air 1.4ohm Kanthal coil.

mini istick 2 coils

AST is an “Austenitic Stainless Steel” material which apparently has a longer coil life – found on a lot of Joyetech devices at the moment too.

When the mod is paired with the AST coil it has a temperature detection which will shut off the output if the coil overheats – this is usually due to low e-liquid level – and this should protect the coil from burning out prematurely.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Kit Design and Build Quality

I received this in the beautiful Rose Gold colour – exactly the model I would have chosen myself!

Also worth noting as this is a review sample I was sent the 2.5ml non childproof version.

mini istick 2 with pen

In TPD regulated areas a 2ml Childproof tank is supplied in the kit.

The packaging is pretty classy as usual with Eleaf and no damage to any of the contents either. To prevent any electrical issues the tank and mod are packaged separately.

Also worth noting no coils are installed so you will have to take a look at the Quick Start Guide below.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Mod

The first thing that strikes me is how similar the kit is to the Vapefly Galaxies 30W kit.

The Eleaf kit however does look classier and is slightly smaller.

mini istick 2 vapefly galaxies
Mini iStick 2 comparison with Vapefly Galaxies 30W kit

This mod consists of the metallic coloured C shaped side panels and then a frame from the top to the bottom in a brushed silver finish.

Each side of the coloured panel has logos – these are etched in very faintly – so they are not brash and in your face. One side says “Mini iStick 2” and the other simply “Eleaf”.

mini istick 2 side panels

The base of the mod has 3 venting holes and the required legal logos.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 510 Connection

Working down from the top – the top of the mod has the 510 connection which appears to be a screw in collar.

The internal pin is spring loaded, and is very tight, screwing the included tank into this is quite squeaky and yukky.

istick mini 2 510

I even tried the pod from the Vapefly Galaxies 30W kit and the same occurs, the tank threads are squeaky and the last turn is extremely tight – moving against the spring pressure.

This tightness also means you end up accidentally over tightening the top cap or bottom cap of the tank – wherever you grip it.

mini istick 2 mod with vapefly galaxies pod
Mini iStick 2 mod with Vapefly Galaxies Pod

The Vapefly pod is 22mm in diameter and this significantly overhangs on the Eleaf mod. The included tank is approx 18mm diameter – I would say you could possibly get away with 20mm maximum tank diameter on here.

Removing the GS Air tank can often result in the bottom cap unscrewing from the rest of the tank as the mod threads are so tight – so watch out!

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Display Panel

At the top of the panel is the fire button – and man does it rattle!

When I first removed the mod from the box it was rattling away and I genuinely thought something was loose on the mod, upon checking it over I located the loose thingy and it was the fire button – oops not a great start.

mini istick 2 display panel

Although it rattles like a keyring, the fire button is responsive and quick to activate so it does not affect the performance.

Below the fire button is the screen – this is an OLED screen but the size is not specified. It is only a black screen with white text but it is pretty clear to read with the resistance reading on the top, the power level in large text below and a battery capacity indicator icon to the right side.

mini istick 2 screen

Next are the adjustment buttons a simple “-” and “+” jobby, these feel more solid and respond quickly with a nice click.

At the base of the display panel is the USB Type C port and I have had no issues with poor connection.

Eleaf GS Air 4 Tank

I have used one of the GS Air tanks in the past – the GS Baby tank found in the Pico Baby Kit and was impressed with the GS Air 0.75ohm coils.

gs air 4 dismantled

On the top of the tank is the removable drip tip which sits in a raised flange (haven’t used that word since school and it had quite a different meaning then… 🙂

The drip tip is a standard 510 fitment and I found other tips fitted in here fine.

Filling is taken care of by removing the screw top cap – this can be quite hard to unscrew as the gasket on the underside of the cap really seems to squash and grip well.

With the top cap removed there are 2 large kidney shaped fill ports which suited my 10ml bottles fine and there was no issue whatsoever with airlocks.

gs air 4 fill ports

The tank base unscrews to give access to the coil and the coil screws into this base. The coil then locates against the chimney section inside the tank.

A nice touch is the airflow adjustment on the base of the tank – this has holes and a large slot to really give a wide range of adjustment.

Even better each of the holes is a different size which again gives you more control of the incoming air.

gs air 4 airflow

The bottom of the tank base has a 510 connection and the required legal logos.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Kit Quick Start Guide

The kit arrives without any coils installed – so you will need to install a coil, fill and charge to get up and running.

Panic not – I will go through this step by step with you below!

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Basic Operation

  • Turn On / Off = press the fire button 5 times quickly
  • Vaping = hold down the fire button when inhaling or inhale on the tank to trigger the auto fire system – this is not very reliable though.
  • Airflow adjustment = rotate the airflow control ring on the base of the tank – there are holes for restricted airflow or a large slot for more airflow – simply turn the ring until the required airflow inlet is showing.mini istick 2 airflow
  • Smart Coil = to activate the AST smart coil protection press the fire button and the + button at the same time to either activate “on” of turn off “off” the smart protection mode. When the AST coil (GS-A) coil is installed the fire activation will cut out if the device senses the tank is empty or coil is overheating to prevent coil damage.mini istick 2 ast mode
  • Entering the “Setup” menu – press the fire button 3 times, use the + and – buttons to navigate through the sub menus and press the fire button to enter each sub menu and also to confirm choices.istick mini 2 menus
  • Stealth mode = you can activate stealth mode (i.e. the screen does not light up when vaping – in order to not draw attention to your vaping in a dark area – for example the cinema when permitted). Enter the “Setup” menu, select the “Set” sub menu and scroll to the “SCRN” sub menu. Scroll through to select “ON” for screen on when vaping or “OFF” for the screen to stay unlit when vaping.
  • Auto or Fire button activation = enter the “setup” menu and scroll through to the “Set” menu. In the “Set” menu scroll to “AUTO” and again select “on” for draw activation / button activation or “off” for fire button activation only. Auto fire only works when using the tank included in the kit.
  • Switch between VW and VV = enter the “Setup” menu. Press the fire button to select the “Mode” sub menu, use the + and – buttons to cycle through the available modes and press the fire button to confirm the choice.mini istick 2 modes
  • Lock buttons = press and hold down the + and – button at the same time to either lock or unlock.
  • Rotate screen = press the fire and – button at the same time to toggle between the display orientation.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Protections

  • mini istick 2 protectionsLow battery – if the battery charge is below 3.3V the screen will display “low volt” and the device will turn off until recharged. I saw this message and it worked – also subsequent fire button presses show the message “Lock”.
  • Weak power – if the voltage drops below 2.9V the screen will display “weak power”.
  • Short circuit / too low resistance – if the coil is below 0.1ohm resistance or a short circuit occurs the screen will display “short”. Replace the coil and check and clean all connections.
  • No Atomiser – the screen will display “check coil” make sure tank and coil are correctly installed. With no tank installed this message appeared as expected.
  • Over time – if the vaping time exceeds 10 seconds the fire operation will cut out to prevent overheating or damage. The screen will display “over 10s”. I have managed to get this protection to kick in and it worked correctly.
  • Overheat – if an electrical fault occurs or the device overheats the screen will display “too hot”.
  • AST Smart Coil protection – if using the GS-A coil and the AST protection mode is activated the display will show “Dry-proof” if the coil has become dry from low liquid level or overheating. The output will stop until the tank has been refilled and the coil has cooled. I tested this and report back further in the review.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 How To Charge The Battery

This kit uses a USB Type C charging port and can be charged at up to a 2A charge rate.

  • Using the included USB C cable connect the small end into the USB port on the mod.charging
  • Connect the large end of the cable into a suitable USB outlet.
  • The charging progress will be displayed on the screen.

Using my USB port on my PC which I think is 0.5A – I forgot to keep checking if it had charged!

I did look after 45 mins and it was charged – so the 30 min charge time promised could be accurate!

How To Fill the Eleaf Mini iStick 2

  • Unscrew the tank top cap. (Childproof versions have a button to press and a slide top cap)
  • Insert the e-liquid bottle nozzle into the fill port.gs air 4 filling
  • Add e-liquid whilst watching the level through the clear section of the tank.
  • Replace the tank top cap.
  • If this is the first use or a new coil leave the device to stand for 10-15 minutes for the coil wicking to absorb the e-liquid. Also before pressing the fire button do a couple of inhales on the mouthpiece. This is called Priming and will help prevent coil damage.

How To Replace the Coil

  • Remove the tank by unscrewing it from the mod.
  • Turn the tank upside down and unscrew the tank base section.gs air 4 coil removal
  • If a coil is already installed unscrew it from the tank base.
  • Install a new coil and screw it into the base.
  • Replace the base onto the tank.
  • Fill the tank and leave to stand for 10-15 mins for the coil to fully absorb the e-liquid.

How Does the Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Kit Perform?

As this is mainly a MTL (Mouth To Lung) kit I will be using a 50/50 VG/PG e-liquid – Crazysaltzzz Bubblegum 11mg Nic salt strength.

I was going to attempt to try a thicker e-liquid with the 0.8ohm coil to see if it will cope – but sadly I did the AST Coil Protection test and buggered up the only 0.8ohm coil I had. Doh – muppet.

gs air 4 coils
Note the colour difference of the cotton in the coils – the 1.4ohm had already burnt out at this point!

GS-A 0.8ohm Coil (8-15W Recommended)

50/50 PG/VG E-liquid

I started at 9.5W and already the taste is way better than I was expecting at the lower power range!

It is worth noting though this still is underpowered as there is a lot of gurgling indicating there is e-liquid not being vaporised.

At 15W the vapour is pretty hot so I found my sweet spot was around 13-13.5W.

The flavour is super impressive and there is warmth and a lovely throat hit.

This is the kind of MTL vape I absolutely love. It is very moreish!

GS Air 1.4ohm Coil (6-12W Recommended)

This was the first coil I tried and to be honest I was not impressed sadly.

The first tank full I used between 10-12W. All was great.

After the second tank full I was getting a burnt taste and dropped the output to 11W. This continued and I ended up dropping down to 10.5W. My e-liquid turned brown and I also had a big leak from the tank base sadly.

After that even at 10.5W the flavour was marred with a burnt tinge – which was pretty unpleasant.

The e-liquid I am using is the same one I have been using for over a year and I never have an issue with it gunking up coils in any of my pod kits and as it is 50/50 VG/PG it should be thin enough to wick properly.

There are large wicking ports on the coil so this shouldn’t be a wicking issue at all.

I can only assume I have a dodgy coil as I haven’t used it above the recommended wattage, it was left overnight for the coil to prime and the e-liquid is tried and tested as coil friendly.

Sorry Eleaf as there is only one of these coils I can only give this low marks.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Airflow

There are so many different airflow settings you can use – there is a slot for wide airflow and also different size hole inlets you can cover or uncover as you please.

It is worth noting the wider open the airflow is the less responsive the auto fire is.

You can close down the airflow to a tiny trickle – and work your way through to the slot airflow which is a restricted DTL setting.

Even on fully open this is pretty restrictive – so no wide open gusts of air here. However this is quite noisy and for such a small stealthy kit the fully open setting will alert those in your vicinity that either Darth Vader is approaching or that you are vaping.

I tended to stick to the smaller of the 2 airflow holes for both coils.

I would say this suits those who want a true tight MTL airflow up to a very loose MTL airflow.

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Mod Performance

In the main the mod worked well, it recognised the GS Air coils pretty accurately and even picked up the Vapefly pod resistance correctly.

The auto draw activation is a bit hit and miss. I found it was pretty reliable on the 1.4ohm coil but with the 0.8ohm coil it was struggling.

Even with the 2 smallest airflow holes open there is still a slight inconsistency to the firing and you end up gasping for breath after a vape.

Otherwise no issues in performance and fire button activation is super quick.

AST Smart Coil Protection – 0.8ohm Coil Only…

I thought after doing the battery life timing I should give this a try to see if it does actually work.

This mode only works if you activate it – have a look at my Quick Start Guide above to tell you how to do this.

So I basically vaped the tank dry and kept firing to see if the protection would kick in before the coil was damaged. Sadly I do not have a spare coil if this one does get burnt out.

The tank had been totally dry for at least 10 vapes before I got the “Dry Proof” warning to kick in.

I allowed it to cool and added more e-liquid to see if the coil was knackered – I left the device to stand for 15 mins to try and saturate the dry wicking.

The first few vapes were absolutely rank! Very burnt hit territory! But I did persevere just in case the cotton needed more soaking. The cotton showing through the wicking ports is still very white – not the orange / brown colour the 1.4ohm coil showed.

coil colour
Burnt out 1.4ohm coil on the left, new 0.8ohm coil on the right

I left the tank overnight and tried again and to be fair the burnt taste did subside slightly but it was still there. Although the vape was OK it still had a bit of a yukky taste for the tank full after. I had to stop using it as the taste was not nice.

The maximum temperature setting for this protection to kick in seems too low. It did kick in and wouldn’t fire until things cooled down but unfortunately the cotton in the coil had already become damaged by then.

To say I am gutted is an understatement as I only had 1 of the 0.8ohm coils and was really enjoying vaping on this kit before I did the test.

Eleaf iStick Mini 2 Kit Battery Life

Obviously there are many variants affecting battery life, the output level you have selected, the coil installed and even your own vaping frequency.

But to give you a guide with the 0.8ohm coil at 13.5W I got around 8 hours of vaping.

I did try to time this with the 1.4ohm coil installed but this coil burnt out after only a few tank fulls sadly.

Pros

  • Very cute little kit
  • Lots of different air flow settings
  • 0.8ohm coil is incredible for flavour, warmth and throat hit
  • Mod is responsive with no major faults
  • Good battery life

Cons

  • Mega rattly fire button!!
  • AST Coil Protection isn’t great – it did damage the cotton making the 0.8ohm coil taste yukky.
  • 1.4ohm coil seemed to be faulty
  • Had a big leak from tank base
  • Tank to mod threads seem very tight
  • Auto draw activation is pretty hit and miss and varies with airflow adjustment too.
  • Maximum tank size of approx 20mm is a bit restrictive

Eleaf Mini iStick 2 Final Review Verdict

I will be honest – I felt very disappointed with this kit with the 1.4ohm coil. This was the first coil I used and it performed badly.

But this little cutie reeled me back in with that epic 0.8ohm coil. The flavour was immense even at the lower power levels. You could go up to a really quite hot vape and the throat hit was super satisfying.

I have plenty of gripes with this kit, the mod 510 threading, the weird draw activation and the tin can full of nails rattly fire button did not impress me.

Unfortunately testing the AST Coil Protection did damage the coil as it didn’t protect from burning – so make sure to keep an eye on your e-liquid level at all times. Do not rely on this protection as you will knacker up your coil.

But with the 0.8ohm coil and the great range of true MTL airflow this kit won me over. I am shallow – if something gives me a vape I really enjoy then I can overlook some of the other issues.

In my eyes Eleaf should ditch the 1.4ohm coil and throw in 2×0.8ohm and a lot of people would love this kit more. If they had the overall review marks would have been higher from me!

In the “Replace if lost or damaged” category I would have put this at 0 before the 0.8ohm coil – thankfully now I have used it this soars into a 10 out of 10 all day long.

So is this a vape kit your using or thinking of buying?

I’ve just received the Kizoku TechMod, it’s really small and my immediate first impressions are it looks pretty cool and kind of cute.

However I have a confession, I’m a bit in the dark with Kizoku, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of them before, so I took a look around the World Wide Web and here’s what I found.

kizoku mod screen

KIZOKU were founded in 2018 in Japan.

We specialize in manufacturing and selling high-quality vaping products with outstanding design and technology…

We have been carrying out extensive research and investing in innovation so we could offer excellent products to meet vaper’s needs.

Although Kizokus’ product range isn’t huge (understandably), they have an interesting and innovative accessory: the Cell Atty Stand, which uses magnets to allow you to order your atomisers however you choose.

Their catalogue also includes the Kirin Disposable Tank, Kirin Semi-Mech Tube Mod, Limit PC Tank Kit, Limit MTL RTA and the Unlimit DL RTA.

It’s worth mentioning the RTA’s I’ve just mentioned can also be used with stock coils. (in essence they are sub ohm tank / RTA hybrids).

What To Expect From The Kizoku TechMod?

First of all I want to point out that the mod is called TechMod and NOT Mech-Mod. Unlike a Mech Mod the TechMod has built in protections.

The very first thing you will notice when unboxing the Kizoku TechMod is it’s size, because it is ultra small.

kizoku mod bottom base

Thanks to it’s ‘side-by-side’ design the Kizoku TechMod is ultra compact measuring at just 78mm high, 49mm wide and 24mm thick.

Bearing in mind this is a side-by-side mod, the height of the device won’t be affected too much by a tank, although it will restrict the size of tank you can use.

Despite how small it looks, it takes a single 18650, takes a 2A charge and fires from 5-80W. It also has 4 modes (Variable Voltage / Variable Wattage / Temperature Control / Bypass).

The fire button is on the front of the device. I haven’t started using it yet but it looks like it might be a bit awkward to hold… We’ll have to find out.

I’m going to find a tank that fits and put a battery in it.

Let’s see what this compact beast can do…

Design & Build Quality

The Kizoku TechMod comes in 4 different colours, they all look pretty cool although I don’t think I’d be able to keep the white one white for very long.

kizoku mod colours

Side By Side Mods & Tank Compatibility

Side by side literally means the tank is at the side of the battery, as you would expect this literally means the tank size is limited by the distance between the 510 connection to the side of the mod.

The tank in the picture above is the Aspire K Lite.

kizoku mod with k lite tank by aspire

With the Kizoku TechMod that limit is 24mm. Therefore we are limited to tanks that are 24mm in diameter at the widest point, meaning you can’t use a 24mm atomizer with a bubble glass.

The depth of the 510 connection plate is just shy of 30mm so there shouldn’t be a problem finding a tank tall enough. Although it is worth mentioning, a tank smaller than 30mm tall, would be awkward to use.

kizoku mod with the freemax gemm disposable tank

For context, the well known Digiflavour Drop RDA is 24mm wide but only 26.5mm high, plus the 8mm tall drip tip.

Kizoku TechMod Battery Cap

The Kizoku TechMod battery cap is a screw system.

I quite like it, on the downside it take a little bit longer to change your battery but on the upside it’s a lot less likely to break or come loose.

kizoku mod battery cap

The threads are nice too making it fairly easy to put the battery cap on and take it off.

Thanks to the open design it is also pretty easy to get a grip of the cap to loosen or tighten it.

Kizoku TechMod Body

The body consists of a Zinc Alloy frame that has a satin like finish. “TECHMOD” is embossed on the front of the frame, with the fire button above it.

There is 2 SS304 (Stainless Steel) panels, one that forms the battery compartment and one that surrounds the USB-C port on the back, as well as the screen and buttons which are on the front.

kizoku mod back usbc port

The Kizoku Logo is embossed in to the side of the battery compartment but both logos are nice and discrete, they are in no way “in your face“.

side by side mod

Overall the TechMod is relatively light but still feels fairly durable and trustworthy.

Kizoku TechMod Screen

The screen on the TechMod is 22x6mm in size.

It’s a simple, black and white display interface, but I like it.

mod screen

On the left side of the screen is the power setting (Volts, Wattage or Temperature). In the middle is the power mode (VW, Power -VW), Temperature or by pass with the current coil resistance below.

On the right side is the Battery Level Indicator, which comprises of 5 bars when full, with the puff time counter below.

Buttons & The Kizoku TechMod In Hand

The buttons are decent, they are easy to press, have that radial type grip and they don’t rattle.

mod buttons

I originally thought the button being on the side of the device would make it awkward to hold and use but thanks to the compact design that’s not really the case.

Using The Kizoku TechMod

Insert Battery

  • Unscrew the battery cap using your fingers
  • Insert battery positive side first
  • Rescrew the battery cap on using your fingers, it doesn’t need to be super tight

Operating

  • Turn On / Off = Press fire button 5 times within 2 seconds
  • Switch Power Mode = Press fire button 3 time in quick succession then press ‘+’ or ‘-‘
  • Adjust Power / Temp Settings = press ‘+’ or ‘-‘ hold to move faster
  • Lock/Unlock Power Adjustment = press and hold ‘+’ and ‘-‘ simultaneously for 2 seconds, until screen displays ‘locked’/’unlocked’

How Does The Kizoku TechMod Perform?

Menus, Navigation & Display

There isn’t really any menus the navigation is pretty standard and the display is pretty basic.

Although there isn’t anything ‘special’ about the 3, I like them, far too often in the vape industry (and other tech industries), companies try far too hand to innovate and make the system too ‘flashy’ it’s nice to go back to the basics but still have some key features like VV, VW, TC and bypass.

Kizoku TechMod Battery Life

The Kizoku TechMod Battery life is very dependent on what type of batteries you are using, especially what mAH the batteries have.

The most common 18650’s are 2,500mAh and 3,000mAh.

kizoku mod 510 connection

I’ve been using a Sony VTC6 (3000mAh) for the most time I was using it at 60-80W and getting about 8-10 hours out of a battery, which is what you would expect.

Don’t forget, if you use an external battery charger, you can always carry a spare battery with you. If you do, just remember to keep your spare in a plastic battery.

However I did notice when the battery gets to 2/5 bars left the mod secretly starts to struggle to pull power… but it’s not that secretive because it’s very noticeable.

Kizoku TechMod Charging

The Kizoku TechMod takes a 2A charge, meaning you can get your 3000mAh battery from flat to full in about 1 hour and a half, whilst a 2500mAh battery would take about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Although I try to always charge my batteries via an external dedicated battery charger, if you do use the built in USB-C port for charging, the screen displays the battery level.

Is the Kizoku TechMod Durable

I think I’m slowly getting a reputation for being a bit heavy handed with my mods…

I mean, my personal ones, don’t last me very long at all.

For example I’m currently using the Geekvape Aegis, I’ve been using it for about 6 months, I haven’t ‘stress tested’ it or done anything with it really and it’s already pretty much doomed.

However the TechMod seems trust worthy.

I think the most common things to break on a mod is the battery door / USB-C charger.

Well we don’t really need a USB-C charger, we can pick up a dedicated charger for about £10 (at time of writing).

It doesn’t have a hinged or magnetic battery door, it has a screw cap…so far so good.

I’d say the next most vulnerable part of any mod is the 510 connection / connection plate but even here we are protected.

Because of the nature of a Side-By-Side mod, the connection plate will be under a lot less stress from the tank being pushed and pulled, it’s also a lot less likely to get danged by the mod landing tank side down if dropped.

All in all, I trust the Kizoku TechMod, it feels durable and i can’t see where there would be any vulnerabilities.

Pros

  • Small Compact Design
  • Durable
  • 18650 Battery
  • 2A Charge rating
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Limited tank size
  • Very Basic Functions
  • Battery Indictor is missleading

Final Review Verdict

First of all I’ve got to put it out there, this type of device is not for me.

I’m power hungry (higher power and longer life).

I’ve also noticed, pretty much every one of my tanks are bigger than 24mm.

However as always I’m reviewing the device for what it is and it is a good little device for someone that wants a small compact device that is packing lots of power.

For a device this size to have an 18650 battery and power up to 80w is pretty impressive.

It is basic but still has VV, VW, TC, bypass and I think it is well built and designed to be durable.

So we’ve established it’s not for me, but who is it for?

If you are looking for a Mouth To Lung device that has a good battery life / external battery that is compact in design or you don’t mind a small tank then this is definitely for you.

The 24mm tank limit makes me want to suggest the mod is better for MTL Tanks but there is MTL tanks that are bigger than 24mm and if the tank is a lot smaller than 24mm, you loose some of the extra security for the 510 connector.

So is this a side-by-side mod you’re interested in buying or are already using?

Read Michelle’s review of the extremely popular Caliburn and Kevin’s review of the Koko that shows Uwell has a decent track record with pod vapes.

Uwell Marsupod Charging case on left device on right

As well as pod devices, they also make a range of mods and tanks.

Such as the Nunchaku 2 Kit, the Valyrian II Kit and the Crown 4 Kit.

What Can We Expect From The Uwell Marsupod?

The Uwell Marsupod comes in two main pieces, a larger battery unit, and an absolutely tiny pod mod that fits inside to charge.

In fact, the way that it carries the little pod kit inside is the reason for the name.

Like a marsupial (kangaroo, etc) has a pouch to carry a baby in, so the Uwell Marsupod battery unit carries the little pod kit.

Uwell-Marsupod-Kit-review

To try and maintain clarity where I’m talking about a device with a pod, that fits inside a charging case, the little unit you vape on, I’ll refer to as a the “device” from here on out.

The Uwell Marsupod is an open pod system with fixed coils, so whilst you can fill it up with your favourite liquids, when the coil eventually burns out, you’ll need to replace the whole pod.

I have my own thoughts on the long term sustainability of this approach, and what ecological impact it may have, however, I’m happy to review any device.

Someone that gets the right device for them, is going to go through a lot less wastage than people trying a new pod kit every week to find the one that clicks with them.

So that’s where the reviews come in!

This was sent over free of charge for the purpose of this review, thank you, and as usual I will review this honestly and report on what I find.

Design and Build Quality

The Uwell Marsupod comes in 4 different colours, Black, Blue, Grey, Black and White (which I have).

It is made of a combination of four different types of plastic, and it definitely feels like it!

Charging Case

Although this has a 1000mAh internal battery, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was totally hollow, based on it’s weight.

Uwell Marsupod with pod retracted showing USB charging port on side

The plastic casing has a slightly pearlescent sheen to it, very sleek but quite subtle.

There’s very little to the sides of the charging case, on one side you have the micro USB charging port (thumbs down for no USB C) and nothing on the other.

At the base of the charging case are the regulatory marks.

Uwell Marsupod Base of Charging Case

The main section that will be of interest is the large slot for the device to slot into.

Uwell Marsupod Charging Case

On the long side you have a large cut out window that allows you to see the device when it is in situ, looking inside when it is empty you can see the three contacts that make charge your device.

Uwell Marsupod LED Lights

At the top of the device you have a glossy plastic section that hides 4 LED lights to let you know the charge status of it, as well as the only branding on this section, with Marsupod in a silver font.

Uwell Marsupod LED lights on top of Charging Case

You also have the hole that the device slides into, when you do this it’s immediately grabbed by magnets that hold the mouthpiece on the outside.

Push the mouthpiece down and the top hole is covered up by a neat little sliding cover to stop dust and debris getting inside.

The Uwell Marsupod Device

Now from the mummy device with the pouch, we move on to the the joey of the kit!

This tiny little device is made of the same pearlescent plastic as the charging case, on both sides it has 6 little ridges that give you some grip and gives you something to push it out of the charging case with.

Uwell Marsupod Device

One side has the word Marsupod stamped into the plastic underneath the ridges, and a tiny little LED in the middle of the of the ridges. This lights up white when you’re vaping, red when it is out of battery, and pulses white when it is sitting inside the charging case and being charged.

One thing to note is that you can put the device into the charging case either way around, however if you want to see it’s charging indicator, you need to leave this side facing the cut out window.

Above the ridges you have a small oval window that allows you to check your e-liquid level. Unfortunately this is placed slap bang in the middle of the pod, so it’s hard to see the liquid level with the coil cutting out any light coming through.

I know it wouldn’t look as symmetrical, but if this window was offset to the left or right of the coil, light would be able to come through and you could easily see your levels.

The Uwell Marsupod…Pod

Pulling out the pod from the top of the device you’ll see there are two gold coloured contacts for power on the base, and the pod is made from PCTG which should be resilient against aggressive e-liquids.

Uwell Marsupod Pod

The coil inside is using Uwell’s Pro-FOCS technology which aims to increase flavour production, we shall see how this performs later on.

You also have an almost impossible Min Fill line on one side, however if you just look at the wicking ports, and not let your levels drop below this, you’ll be fine.

Interestingly the little coil does mean that thinner liquids are the order of the day, Uwell recommend 50/50 PG/VG or higher, so I would not recommend using any high VG juices!

How To Fill The Uwell Marsupod

Lift up the rubber flap on one side to access your fill port and fill with your favourite e-liquid.

Uwell Marsupod How To Fill
Remember to let it sit for 5-10 minutes if it’s a new pod – known as priming your coil.

How Does the Uwell Marsupod Perform?

Capacity

When I first read that it only holds 1.3ml of e-liquid, I was pretty convinced I’d end up spending as much time filling it up as vaping it. However Uwell have worked some magic and this pod barely sips e-liquid.

I did find myself compulsively removing the pod to check the liquid level, as the little window that they give you in the side of the device is not the easiest, unless it’s a really bright sunny day.
pod extended

Airflow and Cloud Production

There’s no controllable airflow, so if you don’t like the draw then you’re out of luck.

It gives quite a loose MTL draw, and it’s quite possible to get a restricted DTL draw.

Read more about the differences between MTL an DTL vaping.

Cloud production is pretty minimal as you would expect from such a little device, nice little puffs of steam, but nothing much more than that. I feel this is probably a positive here, as the device is so small and discrete, that this makes a lovely little stealth vape.

Uwell Marsupod Flavour

Since I only received 1 pod for testing, I was keen not to stress the coil too much and leave me with nothing to review, so I loaded it up with my standard 50/50 Berry Ice from Vape Simple.

It’s a relatively cool vape you get from the pod, but the flavour is absolutely spot on.

Right from the beginning I was getting exactly the flavour that I know this e-liquid for, with no noticeable break in time at all.

Very impressed!

Uwell Marsupod Battery and Charging

I’ve done a lot of testing of this device, and whether you like how it does things or not is going to come down to how much you like the charging system/battery.

You can either use it like a little mod and have the device extended out of the charging case, or you can remove the device totally and only return it when it needs charging up.

device in hand

One thing to be aware of though if you use it with the device extended, is that you are still drawing all of your power from the device, not the charging case, and it will recharge itself when it’s retracted into the charging case.

hand check

On the device, I was able to get about 90 minutes of moderate vaping, which is considerably more than I was expecting from such a tiny little battery.

Returning the drained device into the charging case, and it would start charging, though only when it’s retracted into place. This takes about 45 minutes until the charging indicator switches off.

From the charging case, I was able to get five full charges of the device, and a little bit of extra. Remember, you’re never going to get 100% transfer of power, so 5 full charges is 750mAh from the 1000mAh charging case.

Doing a full charge of the charging case and device from empty, took about 90 minutes, which isn’t bad.

One thing to be aware of, is that you have no way of charging the device except within the charging case.

So whilst I found it was great to be able to just take the device when I was popping to shop, if I was going for a night out, I’d want to bring the whole kit.

Missed Opportunities

Whilst there are things that I really like about this kit, there’s a couple of changes that would have made it even better.

Pass Through Vaping

As in vaping whilst the device is charging.

You can vape this whilst it’s on charge which is useful, but you are only recharging the charging case, as when you have the pod extended you a drawing on the battery of the device.

I would love to have power constantly supplied to the device, regardless whether it’s extended from the charging case or not.

Especially because with only a 150mAh battery in the device, it probably won’t be too long before you start to notice the battery holding less life.

With this set up, the much larger battery of the charging case could give the power to fire the device, and not touch the charging circuit on the device (once it’s fully charged).

Cross Compatibility Coils

This is more a criticism of pod systems in general.

But especially with Uwell having created two very well reviewed ones, with the Caliburn and the Koko (where you can use the same pods) it would have been lovely to see the Marsupod continue this, as it is, the Marsupod is yet another type of specific pod.

This ties into the longevity aspect, as how easy it will be to find replacement pods in a year or so is questionable.

Pros

Charging Case

  • Nice cover that closes over the mouthpiece to avoid dust getting in
  • Clear lights to show charge status

Device (and pod)

  • Great flavour
  • Sips e-liquid
  • No leaks or condensation
  • So tiny that it disappears in the hand

Cons

Charging Case

  • Plastic fantastic, it doesn’t feel very solid
  • Only charges the pod when retracted inside. This means that if you raise it up to vape, and then push it back in, it will start charging again.

Device (and pod)

  • No way to charge the device without the Charging Case
  • Pods are only compatible with the Marsupod
  • Only suitable for 50/50 or higher PG e-liquids
  • Tiny e-liquid capacity
  • Low capacity battery is going to have a limited number of charge cycles before it noticeably starts lasting less. In the first 2 days, I charged this device 6 times.

Final Review Verdict

Well, this is definitely an odd little device, and the gadget lover in me loves the pop out vaping section.

Flavour is spot on, and the coil is still going strong after several days of chain vaping as my only device, and a week of general use.

What I’ve enjoyed most is pottering about the house and just keeping the tiny little device on me, however when ever I went out and about I’d take the whole kit with me.

And this is the rub – if I’m going to take the whole thing with me, then I’d probably be better off taking a small AIO.

I could have changeable coils, better battery life, variable power levels, and, even with TPD limits, a larger capacity.

I just don’t see who the target audience for this is.

Would I Recommend It?

Although Uwell has managed to produce a flavourful pod system (again), I couldn’t see myself recommending anyone spend their money on it.

There are better starter kits out there for people looking to give up smoking, and any established vaper is probably going to become frustrated with the small capacity (battery and liquid) and lack of controls.

I will probably keep using it, but just around the house with some high strength nic salts.

The device does fit into that tiny pocket in your jeans nicely!

It’s just a shame that I would always want to take the whole kit out, anytime I wasn’t going on the shortest of trips.

So is this a pod kit you’re thinking of buying or already own?

The original Vaporesso Swag mod came out at the beginning of 2018, so it’s been quite a while since we’ve had an update – so here at last is the much anticipated Vaporesso Swag 2 kit.

vaporesso_swag_2_kit-review

It was in our Christmas post I was saying I was hoping to see some more single battery mods, so someone must have been listening!

What Can We Expect From The Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit?

Vaporesso have been on a bit of a roll lately.

The Swag 2 looks just like the baby brother of the Gen, you can read what Neil Cozens thought about with his Vaporesso Gen review here.

Whilst it has the same single battery set up of the original Swag that Dean reviewed way back in February 2018 here.

As a small single battery mod, it’s never going to be the sort of things for people that want to chuck enormous clouds all through the day.

But it could be a very interesting kit for someone looking at getting into Direct to Lung (DTL) vaping, or someone that wants a smaller kit for when they’re out and about.

Vaporesso was founded in 2015, as an offshoot of the parent company Smoore (itself founded in 2006). They have 13 factories and almost a thousand patents! So they are definitely a company to watch.

So let’s see how their Swag 2 Kit performs in review.

As always, this was sent over free of charge for the purposes of this review, but I shall report back honestly on what I find.

Inside The Box

  • Swag 2 Mod
  • NRG PE Tank (NRG SE Mini tank in TPD countries)
  • GT4 Meshed Coil (Preinstalled)
  • GT CCell Coil
  • Spare O-rings
  • USB Cable
  • User Manual
  • Warranty Card

Changes From the Original Swag Kit

Aside from the lovely new finish, the other two big changes from the original Swag are:

A brand new board – whilst the Swag used the Omni Board, the Swag 2 is using their new Axon chipset.

The Swag 2 now accepts tanks up to 25mm, which is a big and welcome change from the original Swag, that one only allowed 22mm tanks.

Specs

  • Dimensions – 108mm x 25mm x 50mm
  • Weight – 133g
  • Power Output – 5-80W
  • Battery – Single 18650
  • Capacity – 3.5ml NRG PE (2ml NRG SE Mini in TPD countries)
  • Drip Tip – 510

Design and Build Quality

Mod

Anyone that has had a play with the Vaporesso Gen mod will be familiar with the finish on that one, it’s a lovely soft touch plastic that’s covered in tiny dimples, it’s really grippy, and really comfortable.

It comes in the same colours the Gen launched with, Silver, Black, Red and Blue.

Hopefully if they do well, Vaporesso will bring out the gorgeous Purple and Green like they did for the Gen.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Mod

It’s set up for people that vape with their left hand, as the bulges on the side give your left thumb somewhere comfortable to sit.

Having said this, I almost always vape with my right hand, and after switching the screen orientation in the menu, I found it almost as comfortable.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Top View Showing Grip

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Battery Compartment

Like other mods that use this type of design, where your tank sits slightly below the height of an 18650 battery stood on end.

To do this, it has a battery compartment where the top cap screws on top of the mod.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Mod Side by side with 18650

I did find that some of my batteries with cheaper (thicker) wraps were a little bit snug, so that’s something to be aware of.

As always I would recommend charging your batteries with a quality external charger, however the Swag 2 does have a micro USB port for charging your battery in the mod.

I’m disappointed that it’s not USB C, though it will charge quickly at 2A.

One thing I did like was that it shows you on the screen how long it will be until fully charged.

The NRG PE Tank

The NRG tanks have been around for a little while now, and there’s a huge choice of coils out there for them.

Vaporesso make 9 different types, and there are plenty of other compatible coils out there if you don’t find something you like.

One nice little change from the original Swag Kit, is that now the tank is colour matched to your mod – very sharp!

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit NRG PE Tank

Starting at the top we have a very wide bore, 510 drip trip.

This is made of delrin and I found it to be pretty comfortable.

However for a tank that is clearly aimed at DTL, I wish it were an 810.

Below this you have the top cap that has a slide to refill.

Interestingly if you need to change out the o-rings (or just give your tank a thorough cleaning) the top cap is reverse threaded and unscrews to allow you to take it off.

Airflow is around the bottom of the tank and is a nice big cyclops style airflow hole, mirrored on the other side.

How To Fill The Vaporesso NRG PE Tank

Filling the tank is super easy, just locate the little arrow on the top cap, and slide the top open.

Fill with your preferred e-liquid.

Close the top again, and leave to sit for 5 minutes if your coil is dry.

Read more about best tank practices including priming your coils.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Filling Tank with Liquid

Although it doesn’t have any lock to hold it closed, I never had it accidentally opening on me.

How To Change The Vaporesso NRG PE Coil

Unscrew the base of the tank, then unscrew the coil from the base.

Screw your new coil in and replace the base onto the tank.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Changing Coil

Sadly there’s no way of replacing your coil whilst you have e-liquid in the tank, and if you try it will empty itself out the drip tip.

This is a bit of a shame, as I’ve gotten quite used to new tanks having this option.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Screen and Controls

You have 4 buttons on this mod, and the layout and operation is… confusing!

5 clicks on the fire button will turn your mod on/off, you have a menu button underneath the screen, and on the side of your mod are your +/- buttons on a rocker.

Long press the menu button will take you to the top level menu.

  • Pulse Mode
  • Power Eco
  • Smart TC
  • DIY Mode
  • System Set

I’m going to cover some of these in the performance section later, but the one I want you to focus on now is DIY mode.

Screen Showing DIY Mode

The DIY mode opens up a sub-menu that contains these options

  • VW (Variable Wattage: Soft, Normal, Hard
  • VT (TC Mode: SS, Ni, Ti, Mi – for setting your own TCR)
  • VV (Variable Voltage)
  • CCW (Wattage Curves)
  • BP (Bypass)
  • SP (Super Player… I kid you not)

Seriously…when did you ever need to go into a sub menu to access variable wattage?!

In fact all of these should really be top level in my opinion, OK, maybe not Super Player.

I saw that a couple of people thought that you had to press the menu button three times to get into the main menu, however, if you press it quickly you get a message saying “3 Pressing + M -“.

Screen Showing 3 Pressing

This will get you into the menu, but a long press is easier.

You also have the option to lock the adjustment buttons by pressing the fire button 3 times.

How Does the Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Perform?

In the kit you get two coils, the GT4 Mesh is a dual mesh coil made of Fe-Cr-Al, at 0.15Ω.

Whilst the CCell coil is a SS 316 at 0.5Ω.

I believe that the GT4 uses a combination of traditional cotton and tea fibre (I believe!) whereas the CCell is using a ceramic core wick.

Handcheck

I tested out this out with Only E-liquids Lychee Lemonade at 70/30 VG/PG.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit 0.15Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

Plenty of airflow on this coil, the vapour it produces has that a really creamy thickness to it!

It’s rated at 30-70W with it’s best at 45-60W, 50W seemed pretty great, but as you’ll read, I didn’t get a chance to really push it.

0.15Ω Coil – Flavour

Bags of flavour, absolutely no complaints here.

Rich fruits coming through, and plenty of separation between the flavour notes.

I would normally test a coil that did this well with one e-liquid, with a couple of others to make sure it could handle a range of flavours.

Unfortunately…

I didn’t get to test this coil out nearly as long as normally would, hence why I haven’t spoken about testing different wattage.

I ran it at 50W and it died after about 4 tanks of e-liquid.

I certainly wasn’t pushing this coil, but it burnt out like crazy after only a little bit of use.

I can only hope that this was a one off, but after a really positive start, it was very disappointing!

So, it’s straight on to the CCell coil.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit 0.5Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

This coil is definitely a tighter draw, even fully open this coil gives a fairly restrictive DTL pull.

On the 1-10 scale, with 10 totally open and unrestricted, this probably rates somewhere about a 6.5.

Cloud production was “OK”, but at the lower wattage this runs at, I felt it was a pretty anemic vape.

Quite thin and light vapour, none of the thickness that I enjoy from a good mesh sub-ohm!

0.5Ω Coil – Flavour

Flavour is pretty similar to the cloud production.

It’s fine, but it’s nothing that you’re going to write home about.

All the flavour notes seem to be represented, but like a weaker version of them.

I’m not sure what it is about ceramic coils, but I never seem to get as much flavour from them, and especially on a DTL tank it’s not the type of coil I would generally choose.

In any case, I found my sweet spot for this coil was about 30W.

Going up any higher and it didn’t improve the flavour, it just became a slightly warmer vape.

Vaporesso Swag 2 Kit Different Firing Modes

There’s a lot of options on this, and whilst we all know what variable wattage is like, I decided to take a look at some of the more unusual ones on this device and give you my thoughts.

Pulse Mode

Pulse mode is actually something that goes back quite a long way in vaping.

Rather than the battery providing a sustained output to the coils, it pulses on and off, originally this was due to limitations in the technology.

Now that it’s a choice, the idea is that it can provide good flavour over a longer period of time, hitting the output wattage however fast it can pulse, rather than tailing off after hitting it at the beginning of your draw.

Normally I find pulse mode to be a bit of a let down, as you can feel the on/off hitting the coils.

Vaporesso has made some magic though, and thanks to the Axon chip it’s using, it pulses every 0.02s.

Easily fast enough that you don’t notice it doing it, and I was more than happy to use this in replacement of normal variable wattage!

Power Eco Mode

In this mode, battery life is the aim of the game.

There is also an option in the settings menu to be able to have this come on automatically when your battery hits less than 40% charge.

Personally, one of the first things I would do is go into those settings and turn this off!

I’ve tried to find some more information on exactly what Eco mode is doing, but especially at wattage higher than 50W, you get a very unsatisfying vape.

Sure it may preserve battery power, but I’d rather have spare batteries with me than what feels like a much weaker vape!

Smart TC

I’m not entirely sure how much I want to trust a mods ability to detect the type of TC wire I’m using, but that’s exactly what Smart TC claims to do.

I tested this out with Stainless Steel wire (the only TC wire I tend to use) and it correctly identified it every time.

In fact the CCell coil is using Steel as its heating element, so you can have a play with that if you want.

I’m just honestly not sure we really *need* this.

Anyone that uses TC mode tends to know what wire they are using, and it’s not like it’s a massive chore to select it after you select TC.

With both Smart TC and normal TC mode set to Stainless Steel, I found the temp control to be pretty flawless.

Super Player

Just who decided to name this Super Player? I want answers!

Apparently this mode expands the resistance range that this mod will accept.

It seems to switch to standard VW with no option of switching between Soft, Medium and Hard.

However it will now accept atomizers as low as 0.03Ω or as high as 5.0Ω! So there’s that?

Again, this feels like a mode that was put on for the sake of it, as I’m not sure I’d ever want to vape on an atomizer at 0.03Ω (especially on a single battery mod) and going up to 5.0Ω is just weird!

I’m not sure what resistance range it will normally read.

But we already know it’s happy down to 0.15Ω, as that is one of the coil choices. If you use this mode, I’d love to know in the comments!

Pros

Swag 2 Mod

  • Really comfortable
  • Fast firing
  • Great pulse mod

NRG PE Tank

  • Easy top fill
  • Great flavour (0.15Ω coil)

Cons

Swag 2 Mod

  • Weird menu layout
  • Micro USB rather than USB C
  • Snug battery compartment (minor niggle)

NRG PE Tank

  • No mid tank coil changing
  • 510 drip tip instead of 810
  • Quickly burnt out coil (0.15Ω Coil)
  • Weak sauce flavour (0.5Ω Coil)

Final Review Verdict

Aside from my experiences with the 0.15Ω burning out on me, I really like this kit.

This would probably be the kit that I recommended to people looking at trying out DTL for the first time.

Discrete, good looking kit, and capable of great flavour.

Vaporesso made a big splash with the Gen mod, and it’s great to see a company double down on their success and bring the things that people liked with that over onto their other devices.

My only slight problem with the mod is that I think the menu system isn’t great.

But as with most of these things, once you’ve lived with it for a week or so, you soon remember where stuff is.

The Axon board they have in there seems to be doing a great job, really quick to fire, and being able to handle things like detecting wire types for TC is a sign that they’re continually looking for new ways to make vaping easier.

It may not be something I use, but I applaud the intention!

Have you used the Swag 2 kit? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

So is this just smaller or are there some little updates on offer too?

What Features Does The Joyetech eGrip Mini Have?

As mentioned above this is a lot smaller than the original eGrip and at only 10mm thick is a nice pocket friendly little pod.egrip mini components

However in comparison with its larger sibling the Mini kit does lose a lot of features due to the size reduction.egrip mini size

The battery for instance has a smaller capacity at 420mAh as compared to the 1000mAh internal battery in the original eGrip.egrip mini charging

Having a Type C USB port Joyetech state you can charge this in 30 minutes.

An LED indicator changes colour to inform of the battery capacity remaining.egrip mini led

There are no adjustments or buttons, the device has a constant power output although the power level is not specified. To fire the device you just inhale and the airflow sensor will kick the fire mechanism into action.egrip mini draw activated

Also the pods / cartridges are different and there is no replaceable coil option for the Mini kit. The pods have a fixed coil so you discard the whole pod when the coil life has expired. Simply slide the pods into the device from the side.egrip mini cartridge

The pods are refillable via the side fill port and will hold up to 1.3ml of your own e-liquid.refilling

There are two pod options to choose from to cater to different vaping styles:coil options

  • 1.2ohm Ni-Cr pod – this is more for higher nicotine or nic salts and MTL vapers. Install the MTL mouthpiece for the best experience.
  • 0.5ohm mesh pod – this could be used for higher nicotine strengths but is mainly designed for use as a DTL vape and thicker VG e-liquids.

We tell you all about these terms in our guides to MTL and DTL Vaping Styles and PG / VG in E-liquid.

Here is a short introduction video from the Joyetech YouTube channel.

There are 5 colours to choose from: Aura Black, Aura Purple, Aura Glow, Coral Red and Aurora.

The Rincoe TIX Pod will only be the second product I have reviewed from this brand.

My first involvement with Rincoe was when I reviewed their Manto S kit which I found very favourable.

Rincoe TIX Pod KitThe Rincoe TIX Pod Kit is the third Pod Kit release from Rincoe following on from the Ceto SE and Neso X Pod Kits.

Rincoe TIX In Hand

What Can We Expect From The TIX Pod Kit from Rincoe?

Like most pod systems on the market today, the TIX is very is small. It fits in the hand very well but is quite a weighty device, so you know it’s there. Good for people like me who have a tendency to loose small objects.

I received the TIX Pod Kit in Blazing Skull design but it does come in a total of seven designs.

Rincoe Tix Designs

We have seen a very similar design before so for anyone with the Artery PAL 2, you will certainly be very familiar with this design.
Rincoe TIX Pod Kit OpenThe device was sent to me for review. As always, I will give you my own, honest opinion of this product after a lengthy testing period.

Rincoe Tix CoilsDesign and Build Quality

There is quite a lot of weight in the Rincoe TIX Pod System and it certainly feels of premium quality in your hand. The body of the device is made up of Zinc Alloy with In Mould Labelling (IML) so the feature design can’t and won’t peel.

The finish on the TIX is very good quality with very durable paintwork. As you can see from the designs above, there are various design options and it all adds to make the Pod System a bit more personal to the individual vaper.

The back plate of this device is held very firmly in place with three very strong magnets. There is very slight movement but there is no rattle at all.

Throughout my time with the Rincoe TIX Pod system, no matter which coil I have used, I have not had one drop of e-liquid leak from the Pods. Also, another thing to note is that the condensation under the Pod is very minimal.

Rincoe TIX SizeUnlike some other Pod Kits, this has withstood some heavy coin battering in my pocket and there isn’t a chip or mark on it.

Lanyard

The kit includes a lanyard. This is attached on the corner of the mod. There is also an added extra that you can purchase, though they may put them in some sort of SE packaging, is a Bling Bling metal chain, if that’s something you fancy! It’s similar to the one included in Voopoo Drag Nano kit.

Rincoe TIX and LanyardsLED Indicator | Button Function

There are two LED indicators on the side of the device, above and below the power selection button.

The LED at the top of the button shows you what power output is selected and the LED on the bottom indicates the battery level.

Rincoe TIX Blown Up ViewTo vape with the Rincoe TIX, you have a shield shaped fire button on the front of the device. This has an auto cut off of eight seconds of continuous vaping.

As well as the fire button, this also turns your device on and off with a quick succession of five presses.

Rincoe TIX Fire Button

Cycling through the power output settings is done by pressing the button between the two LED’s on the side once.

The different outputs with a single click are:

  • Red – 3.3V
  • Blue – 3.65V
  • Green – Full Battery Output

Rincoe TIX Power SettingsAs is standard, the TIX Pod Kit has all the usual safety features you would expect!

POD | Coils | Airflow

The quality of the Pod provided is very good, nice and sturdy and will certainly last you a good while.

The only gripe I have from the pods is that you are unable to see the level of your e-liquid inside the Pod. This could be easily remedied by making the Pod with a clearer material.

One other con regarding the Pod is that the rubber bung used to cover the fill hole.

It could be better marked as to which side you lift up to reveal the fill port. If you lift up the wrong side of the rubber bung, it is next to useless and ready for the bin unless you are lucky enough to be able to fix it again.

Rincoe TIX Pod Fill Port

The mouthpiece on the pod is very good, it is kind of like the traditional Pod mouthpiece permanently fixed to the Pod. It does feel very comfortable in the mouth whilst vaping.

The TIX Pod is held firmly in the Pod housing in the main body.

It can be removed with a little wiggle and inserted into the main body with a little push. Once the Pod is seated within the main body, the back plate is put on to cover it.

Though the Pod will easily sit in place and not fall out without the back plate.

Rincoe TIX Pod Housing

The airflow for the Pod is easily adjusted. You simply turn the bottom airflow ring until you find your required air flow.

You simple remove the Pod from the main body and twist the bottom airflow ring to your required level. You can also alter it whilst the Pod is still seated in the main body though it is a little difficult.

Rincoe TIX Airflow wide open

Rincoe TIX Airflow ClosedHow Does The Rincoe TIX Pod Kit Perform?

First up lets quickly go through a quick guide on how to use and set up the device.

Charging the TIX

You simply plug in the USB Type C cable in the provided port on the side of the device.

Rincoe TIX Charging

The charge time from flat is around 50 minutes.

How to Fill and Replace the Pod

To fill the TIX pod you simply:

  1. Remove the back plate from the Rincoe TIX main body then remove the podRincoe TIX Pod Removal
  2. If you do not need to change your coil, simply remove the correct side of the bung and put in your e-liquidRincoe TIX Put In Eliquid
  3. Fill with e-liquid, close the filling port, replace the back plate.

One thing to note that the Rincoe TIX Pods can be filled whilst still in the main body so it’s down to personal preference if you fill the pod whilst in or out of the body.

How To Change The Tix Coil

Changing the coil is simple:

  1. Remove pod from body
  2. Turn the pod upside down
  3. Unscrew the coil from the podRincoe TIX Coil Removal
  4. Unscrew the coil from the air adjustment ring

Rincoe TIX Coil Removal from afc

  5. Replace your coil with a new one and screw it back into the pod.
  6. Repeat the process above for filling up your pod but wait for several minutes before vaping for the coil to soak up the e-liquid.

The Rincoe TIX is a great piece of kit. It performs very well and there is a vape setting for everyone.

With both coils, you can vape Mouth to Lung (MTL) and Direct to Lung (DTL) using either 50/50 Nic Salts/freebase e liquid or a 70VG/30PG e-liquid.

Both coils perform very well and I never got a burnt taste or notion of a dry hit at all.

Where this kit performs the best, for me, is with Nic Salts vaped as a MTL device.

That’s not to say it doesn’t perform well as a DTL device, I’m just saying I think the performance is better suited to a MTL vape. The draw isn’t super tight which suits my style of vaping.

You get a very pleasant vape with DTL. It is however somewhat restricted as you would expect from a Pod Kit.

Flavour | Vapour

The flavour from the Rincoe TIX is very good though I would say as previously mentioned, it really comes into its own when using the kit as a MTL device with 50/50 Nic Salts.

1.0ohm Regular Coil

I used a 50/50 Nic Salt (Strapped – Super Rainbow Candy) mainly with this coil as an MTL vape and this is where the 1.0ohm Regular coil performs better over using it as a DTL coil.

When vaping as MTL with minimum airflow, you can taste the different flavour notes from the e-liquid, unlike using this coil as DTL.

When testing out this coil as a DTL vape, I used a 70VG/30PG e-liquid (Desired Dessert – Raspberry Tart).

Though it performed admirably, there was no flavour notes to speak of from the e-liquid and the  flavour was rather muted compared to using the coil as a MTL vape.

The favoured setting for me whilst MTL vaping with the 1.0ohm coil was on the blue/medium setting. This not only got that little extra from the battery, I found the flavour from this coil popped on this setting.

0.8ohm Mesh Coil

Throughout my time testing out the Mesh Coil, I used the same e-liquids as with the 1.0ohm coil to see if there was any significant difference between the two.

Using Nic Salts as an MTL vape, air flow closed right down,  the Mesh coil performed very well, certainly on par with the 1.0ohm Regular coil.

Again, flavour notes from the Nic Salts were clearly evident when you were vaping.

Where the Mesh Coil clearly out performed the 1.0ohm regular coil for me, was when you used the Rincoe TIX as a restricted DTL vape.

Having the air flow wide open, using the same 70VG/30PG e-liquid, there was a very distinct flavour difference between the two. I was able to differentiate between the flavour notes and there was certainly more flavour there than with the 1.0ohm Regular coil.

Big clouds are not what pod kits were made for, so don’t buy this if plumes of vapour is what you want. You do get an average cloud with the air flow control fully open using a DTL style vape.

I used both coils for slightly over a week and they were both going strong. I would estimate, like most other coils that you would get up to a week and a half, two weeks at a push, again, it would all depend on how you are using the kit and with what vape juice.

Voltage Modes

There is a slight notable difference between the different voltage modes:

  • At 3.3V, you get a nice cool vape
  • At 3.65V, the vape warms up a little
  • At max voltage, you get more of a warm throat hit

One thing to note, the higher up in wattage you go, the battery life will be reduced.

Battery Life

The battery life from the Rincoe TIX Pod Kit is excellent using it as a MTL device.

You get a 1000mAh internal battery, it will last you well over a day if you aren’t using it as a main device. Like most users, pod systems are a general carry round to be used out and about and for stealth vaping.

With this device, the battery longevity depends on your settings and the way you vape.

If you vape on max settings as a DTL device, you will reduce the battery life considerably than if you were vaping on the lowest to middle setting doing a MTL vape style.

Pros

  • Very Small
  • Portable and stealthy
  • Optional voltage output modes
  • Excellent flavour
  • Premium build
  • Refillable Pods
  • Replaceable coils
  • Type C charging
  • Airflow Adjustment
  • Optional Bling Metal Chain

Cons

  • Hard to see e-liquid level in the Pod
  • Need clearer indication of where to open Pod fill bung

Final Review Verdict

Rincoe have done a very good job with the TIX Pod Kit. They have tried to provide something for everyone. You have a refillable pod, changeable coils and adjustable air flow.

You could, at a push, use this device as a main kit though I feel it is aimed at an entry level vaper or someone who wants a stealth device.

The Rincoe TIX is very well build and provides a solid vape no matter what style you choose.

I will certainly carry on using the device in the future.

The Vaporesso Target Mini II kit is another new release from Vaporesso and an upgrade from the original that was a big hit at the time. Slight increase in battery capacity, a modification to the original design and there’s a new tank on top!

The brand has released some great devices as of late (Vaporesso GEN Mod, Vaporesso Aurora Play) so I’m looking forward to see if this kit hit’s the spot.

Target Mini II in handI received the Vaporesso Kit in Silver but the kit does come in various other colours.

What Can We Expect From the Target Mini II by Vaporesso?

The Vaporesso Target Mini II is an excellent size device, it’s super tiny, lightweight and very portable.

The VM Tank 22 offers a Mouth to Lung (MTL) and Direct to Lung (DTL) style vape so you have the best of both worlds whilst the Mod itself offers a battery capacity of 2000mAh and a maximum wattage of 50 Watts.

Let’s get straight to seeing how this little kit performs. Can it make the Best Small Vape Mod list?.

The Vaporesso Target Mini II was sent to me for the purposes of review. As always, I will give you my own, honest opinion of this product after a lengthy testing period.

Design and Build Quality

Target Mini II Mod

The Target Mini is well designed, though, just a little refresh of the original Target Mini.

Target Mini v Target Mini IIIt’s small, sleek, fits superbly in the hand with an all round good feel. There isn’t and protruding parts or sharp edges spoiling the design.Target Mini II Design

The mod houses a 2000mAh battery, some 600mAh more than the original, but Vaporesso state the Target Mini II will last 50% longer than the original.

Target Mini II Specs

This kit has been very enjoyable to test. There are a lot of devices out there at the moment that tell you it can do MTL and DTL but the majority fail to do both or at least one well. I will let you know shortly if the Vaporesso Target Mini II managed to do it!

Menu System – Quick Start

The menu system on the Target Mini II is very easy to use.

  • Press menu select 3 times or one long press of 3 seconds
  • Scroll through the menu left and right with the + and – keys
  • Press the function/menu select for corresponding setting

Target Mini Menu Function

Fire Button

The fire button on this Mod is nicely placed and can be fired by either the thumb or just as easily with the finger. I must admit, I do find it easier to fire the device with my thumb.

Target Mini II Fire ButtonThe Omni Chip in Vaporesso devices has always been a great chip with very quick fire up from pressing the fire button.

OLED Screen

OLED screens on most vape products are adequate inside, or outside in dull conditions.

The screen on the Target Mini II is no different. When you take the device out of the box, the brightness setting is already on maximum so you will certainly have no joy at all viewing the screen in sunny conditions.

Unfortunately, that is all too common with the majority of products out there.

VM Tank 22

Vaporesso, on the whole, have made and designed very good quality vape tanks and the VM Tank 22 is certainly no exception. The build is top notch, certainly for the price you are paying.

VM Tank 22 Close UpThe VM Tank 22 certainly doesn’t disappoint in the flavour department and is a bit of a looker to boot.

VM Tank 22 Exploded ViewTea Fiber Cotton Coils

It’s the latest trend in the vaping world that coils with Tea Fiber, yes tea, have a far superior flavour output from them and on this occasion, that rings true on this occasion also.

Meshed Tea Fiber

It’s said that this combination has been designed to provide a super smooth vape with, of course, top notch flavour.

The Freemax Twister kit also featured Tea Fiber mesh coils that were excellent.

How To Change The VM Tank 22 Coil

To change the coil on the VM Tank 22 you simply:

  • Remove the Tank from the Mod
  • Unscrew the bottom airflow section from the main Tank where you will see the coil sitting in the Tank.
  • Give the Tank a little wiggle and the coil will fall out.
  • To put in a new coil, there is no screwing in of the coil, you just simply place it in the main tank then screw on the bottom airflow section and you are good to go.

VM Tank 22 Coil Change

How To Fill The VM Tank 22 Tank

Filling the VM Tank 22 is a simple affair too.

  • Unscrew and remove the top cap.
  • You will be met by a sizeable slot to put your e-liquid in.
  • Put in your e-liquid then screw back on the top cap.

How Does the Vaporesso Target Mini II Kit Perform?

The Target Mini II Kit performs well in some aspects and not so well in others.

Both the 1.0ohm and 0.6ohm coil have great longevity. Both coils tested lasted upwards of two weeks with a little more life left in them.

I have to say, I enjoyed the MTL vape on the 1.0ohm coil slightly better than vaping DTL on the 0.6ohm coil and there’s a couple of reasons for this that I will touch on below.

Flavour and Vapour Production

Don’t expect massive clouds from the VM Tank 22. Vaping MTL you get a small cloud which is good for stealth vaping or while you are out and about.

The cloud production from the 0.6ohm coil is average.

EUC Meshed – 0.6ohm Coil (Tea Fiber)

EUC Meshed Coil Tea FiberThe flavour I got from this coil wasn’t anything I would write home about, I used a 70/30 e-liquid (Chubby Juice, Ripple) that I use regularly in another RTA and RDA but the flavour was way off, very muted in fact, certainly not something I would expect from a meshed, tea fiber coil.

However, I don’t think that was from the coil itself, rather than the way the tank is designed.

It is, in my eyes set up more as a MTL Tank rather than a DTL Tank with the airflow and size.

EUC CCELL – 1.0ohm Coil

EUC CCELL Ceramic Coil

The EUC CCELL is your standard Vaporesso ceramic with your coil embedded into it.

The flavour you get vaping MTL from the VM Tank 22 is very good for a stock coil tank.

The first time I used the MTL coil, I used a 50/50 Nic Salt, (Strapped – Tangy Tutti Frutti) the same as I have been using in my Aspire Nautilus AIO and the flavour in the VM Tank 22 was very good indeed, I would certainly have a hard time differentiating between the two.

I also tested the coil with a 60VG/40PG e-liquid which was also very good. The only time the coil struggled a little was vaping an 80VG/20PG DIY e-liquid I made myself.

Off course, there isn’t many MTL Tanks that cope well with an 80VG e-liquid.

As per the many Vaporesso coils I have tried, I never once had a dry hit from either of the coils tested and that was chain vaping on both several times.

The Target Mini II also had no problems at all using other RTA’s I have as long as you will vape it at no more than 50W.

Battery Life

When using the device as a DTL vape is that the battery life is, quite simply, pants.

When vaping MTL with the Target Mini II kit, you will get the battery to last all day, that’s from when I leave my house to when I return in the evening.

Using the mod for DTL vaping at 40W or more, you will quite literally, get two hours of battery life then it’s dead.

Pros

  • Very Portable
  • Great MTL Flavour
  • Easy to use menu
  • Quick firing Mod
  • Pocket Size
  • Good Battery Life with 1.0Ohm Coil (MTL Mode)

Cons

  • Battery life from 0.6Ohm coil is bad (DTL Mode)

Final Review Verdict

I really enjoyed reviewing the Vaporesso Target Mini II. As always, when I get to review a product that says it can MTL and DTL, one side tends to let it down.

On this occasion, using the Target Mini II in MTL mode, it was very good. Great flavour and good battery life.

DTL vaping was almost the opposite. Very average flavour and the battery life from vaping with the higher wattage required was very poor.

The Target Mini II solely as an MTL kit would be very good but it is let down by the DTL side of it. That isn’t me saying the kit is bad, because it certainly isn’t but only as a MTL device.

Today I’m reviewing the Eleaf iCare Flask, quite possibly one of the smallest devices I have ever gotten my hands on. Eleaf have a huge variety of products on the market, and they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.Eleaf iCare Flask Colours

As a company, they were founded in Shenzhen in 2011, and as well as manufacturing their own devices, they are often the manufacturer responsible for OEM hardware that gets badged up under other names.

Recently we’ve had reviews of the Eleaf Tance and Tance Max by Neil, the iStick Rim and iTap by Gaz, the iStick Mix kit by Ian and the iJust 21700 kit by Kevin… and that’s only going back as far as April!

What Can We Expect From The iCare Flask by Eleaf?

The design, unsurprisingly, is based of a hip flask which were designed with a curve to fit comfortably against the hip. The device is small and comes with an internal 520mAh battery, a 1ml e-juice capacity and a weight of just 69g.

Eleaf seem to be on a mission to own the starter vape kit section of the market, with almost every conceivable variation of device covered. That means as well as their more traditional vapes, you occasionally get something a little bit different.

Or in this case, a little bit little! On to the review…

This was sent to sent to me free of charge for the purposes of this review (thank you Vapesourcing) however this in no way affects my rating, and I shall report back honestly with my findings.

Design and Build Quality

First things first, when I received my package, the top of the battery seemed to have a lot of fine white dust on it. I brushed most of it off before I thought I should take a picture, but you can see some of it in the photo.Top of Eleaf iCare Flask dust

Slightly disconcerting, but I figured (hoped!) it was just something from the packaging process. So I cleaned the Eleaf iCare Flask off and got to work. I said it before, but you don’t really appreciate just how dinky this thing is until you get it in your hands. It is tiny and really lightweight.

The battery is shaped like a classic hip flash, just in miniature. With it’s metal construction, it feels very well put together and quite refined.eleaf icare flask in hand

The battery itself has a micro USB to charge at the bottom and iCare Flask printed in white on the front, with a tiny white LED between the two words. LED Light on iCare FlaskThis will light up when you’re vaping, and flash to indicate one of the three protections:

  • 10 Second overdraw
  • Low voltage
  • Short circuit

The iCare Flask comes in two colours, either silver or the black which I got.

I’ve been using this heavily for a little over a week now, and it’s often in my pocket with keys and other bits and pieces. So I’m impressed at how well the finish has held up.

There’s a little bit of scratching of the metal body on one of the top edges, but you wouldn’t notice unless you were looking for it. I would imagine the silver holds up even better.

The atomiser itself is incredibly slim at just 10mm diameter and 51mm long. There’s no replaceable coil, so when the flavour goes it’s a case of replacing the whole thing.Eleaf iCAre and tank

The coil itself is 1.35Ω and according to Eleaf has a “ceramic wrapped wick”, I haven’t been able to find out if they are using any other wicking material in there, which should help to prolong the coil life.

It’s a non adjustable airflow that is fed from the 510 connector, so it is possible to put this on another mod (though it will look really silly!) as long as your mod has air channels on the top plate.

Testing it out on on another vape mod, I think the kit must be firing at about 9W.

How to Fill the iCare Flask

To fill the atomiser, you need to unscrew the combination drip tip/top cap.

I don’t know whether this was me just being unlucky, but about 50% of the time, the silicon seal remained on top of the tank.Eleaf iCAre tank silicon seal

If this happens it’s not a big deal, as you just need to lift it up with something like a pin or tweezers and replace it in the top cap before you try to fill.

Unfortunately having only a 1ml liquid capacity, you will need to fill it relatively often, so this can get annoying if you’re out and about.

Once you’ve successfully removed the top cap you then need to fill your tank. How to fill the Eleaf iCare flask tank

Due to it being so tiny, I found that I couldn’t even get the tip of a 10ml bottle between the chimney and the glass, so what I ended up doing was resting it against the chimney, and slowly filling by letting the eliquid run down the outside of the chimney.

After filling it, let it sit for 5-10 minutes to give it a chance to soak up the eliquid properly.

Quick Setup Guide

When you first open the packaging, you will notice the little gold coloured ring. This is your magnetic adapter that you have to screw on to the bottom of the atomiser.Eleaf iCare gold magnetic ring

It will only screw on one way up, so no chance of getting it wrong. Once you’ve screwed it on you’ll see that the four little cut outs at the top line up with the airflow in the top of the 510 connector.

Slide the whole assembly into the battery, and it makes a nice secure connection with the magnets. Because the tank is recessed into the battery, it’s not going to become dislodged easily.Plaing the tank in the Eleaf iCare Flask mod

However, I did notice that there’s about 2mm of side to side movement at the top where the drip tip extends beyond the battery. If you’re walking while vaping, you definitely notice the tank moving around and clicking against the top of battery.

It’s not a deal breaker, but I wish the tolerances were a little tighter, or there was some cushioning around the inside.

One thing I do appreciate is the fact that the battery has a cut out running down the thin edge of it so you can see the tank and keep an eye on your eliquid level.Eleaf iCare Flask E Juice Window

Only having 1ml of eliquid, it would have been a pain to take it out to keep checking. So this is a nice touch.

Firing is draw activated, so just take a pull to start vaping!

How Does the Eleaf iCare Flask Perform?

Since I only received a single atomiser and the coil is not replaceable, I decided to play it safe and stick with my 50PG/50VG Berry Ice from Vape Simple.

Near the end of my testing I also tried some 60VG/40PG Murf Blood by AVB, which it handled equally well.eleaf icare flask in hand

In all honesty though, this device is definitely set up for someone using small amounts of high strength e-liquid or nic salts.

Flavour

I was expecting to be a little underwhelmed by the flavour, but (not for the first time) I was proved pretty decisively wrong.

Flavour is clean and crisp, not a warm vape, but very satisfying!

Clouds are similar to what you would get on a pod mod vape system, nothing much in terms of vapour production. But this is fine in it’s role as a stealth vape/backup.

Airflow

Airflow is not adjustable, so if you don’t like it you’re stuck. It’s definitely a mouth to lung (MTL) device, whilst not being super tight, you would struggle to get a Direct to Lung (DTL) hit from it.

Battery Life

It’s hard to judge battery life on a device like this, as it’s not the type of thing you will typically use as an all day vape.

In moderate usage with a high strength e-liquid, I was happily able to get 5 days out of it. It’s worth noting that there’s no battery indicator though, so I’d recommend keeping it topped up if you’re using it frequently, as otherwise it will just stop firing at some point.

However, you have to remember that this was being run as a backup/stealth device, and so I wasn’t vaping on it constantly.

It’s quick to charge though, taking about 45 minutes, so it’ll easily get you through a day at the office/job interview/wedding, basically anywhere you might not want to take a full set up!

Longevity of Atomiser

I can’t give you a definite answer on this one unfortunately, but I suspect it would take a lot longer than I have time to review this for! What I can tell you is that in over a week of vaping, I haven’t noticed even the slightest of drops in flavour.

Obviously the type of eliquid you put into it is going to make a big difference, overly sweet flavours are going to gunk up the coil more quickly.

I also think that what Eleaf are doing with their “ceramic wrapped wick” should help with this as well. I wish there was a little more information available on how exactly it’s constructed, as the diagram on their website doesn’t show a great deal.

It looks like it may actually just be a ceramic wick, that is actually wrapped around the coil If this is the case then I take my hat off to them, as the flavour I was getting was far closer to a normal cotton wick than any of the ceramic wicked coils I’ve tried!

Pros

  • Really slim “shirt pocket style”
  • Decent battery life
  • Able to check e-liquid level
  • Protected atomiser design
  • Great flavour

Cons

  • Small e-liquid capacity
  • Weird white powder when first opened
  • Drip tip wiggles when seated
  • Silicon seal gets stuck on top of atomiser
  • Fiddly to refill

Final Review Verdict

The Eleaf iCare Flask is by no means a perfect device, but what it does, it manages to do really quite well.

I have continued to use this on a daily basis loaded up with some high nicotine, 50/50 vape juice, and it makes a perfect stealth vape. If you’re going somewhere fancy and don’t want to ruin the lines of your suit with a big dual 18650 set up, this will slip into a pocket without a fuss.

Flavour for me is always one of the critical factors in determining whether I’d personally use anything I get in for review, and I’m really pleased to say this little kit has done well on that front.

I wish some of the fit and finish were a little higher (the wiggle at the top and the seal mainly) but equally I know that this would have increased the price and potentially put some people off buying it.
