If you’re a seasoned vaper then it’s most likely you have either heard of or have owned a Wismec Reuleaux device in the past few years. Personally I haven’t! But I know one or two people who still use their Reuleaux mods every day.

There have been a few variants of the Reuleaux device over the years but Wismec have been quiet for a while, until now!

The new RX G variant is by no means similar to any of their previous Reuleaux releases, but it certainly has a few interesting or perhaps eye brow raising features.

Let’s crack on and try out the Wismec Reuleaux RX G device!

What Can We Expect From The Wismec Reuleaux RX G?

At a glance, the RX G screams nothing but crazy angles and looks like it was designed in the year 2121 not 2021.

The RX G is a compact single 18650 mod which can fire up to a serious 100 watts, it has an unusual spring loaded trigger style fire button along with multiple LED lights which glow when firing.

I received the Beast variant of the RX G which includes a gorilla style design and some funky angular mirrored panels.

There are 3 colours to choose from: Mecha, Cyberspace and Beast.

Design and Build Quality

The RX G won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Its footprint is quite small but its looks are certainly unusual.rxg mod components

In The Hand

The RX G device is a fairly comfortable device to hold and use day to day. Mainly enjoyed as a thumb firer with your fingers wrapped around the tubular shaped end of the device.

There is no leather or plastic protection which can usually contribute to the grip of a device, but instead the criss-cross framework and unusual angles help with grip.

The device itself has a nice weight to it, feels solid in the hand and as long as you’re not unfortunate enough to drop the device so it lands somewhere on the fire trigger, I’m pretty sure this device will last very well and even cope with the odd drop.

510 connector

The top of the device is slightly raised from the device, meaning anything over 25mm will over-hang. However for this style of device that should be plenty for your favourite tank or RDA.

The 510 pin itself is spring mounted and has a fairly long throw to it.

Buttons

The trigger style spring loaded fire button is actually pretty cool and sits separate to the device, holding on by a top-mounted lever.

Slightly lower than the fire trigger/button is a locking switch with a nice amount of knurl to click between locked and unlocked. Locking this switch will stop any of the buttons from operating.

Looking a little closer, the locking switch makes a tiny slider sit behind the fire button, meaning you can’t press it and fire the device. Clever, and also feels like quite a solid locking method.

Hidden to one side of the device is effectively what you would call your Up and down buttons.rxg controls

The single reflective/mirrored panel is flush with the device but just large enough to press with your thumb. Ideally I would have preferred if this panel was slightly raised from the device, but it still works fine once you figure it out.

Display

The 0.96 colour display is fairly bright, but not super bright, however it’s quite a clear screen considering there is quite a bit of information on the front screen.

Scrolling through the menus is also clear and bright enough to navigate, even in bright outdoor conditions.

Below the display is the USB-C port for charging and firmware upgrades. Wismec claim the device can charge at a 2 amp rating.

Base

The battery door is a simple push and slide to lock style and locks the battery nicely into place. There is also a small amount of battery venting should the worst happen.

Installing and removing the battery is easy enough, however a few times (depending on the battery wrap width) the whole battery tube has also came out, with the battery still inside the tube!

Something I didn’t even notice until I used a certain brand of battery. So yeah – the battery tube is removable and replaceable I suppose. But no, unfortunately removing the battery tube doesn’t mean you could use a larger 20700 or 21700 battery.

Externals

There’s quite a bit to mention with the overall externals of the RX G device.

Let’s start with the LED’s. On either side of the device there are the ‘Wismec’ brand and ‘RXG’ which are both hidden behind mirrored panels, until your fire the device. Of course you can change the colour of the text in the menu options but they actually glow very brightly when firing and really stand out.

The battery tube also has an.. Interesting design. Of course the different colour variants of the device will have a different design. However the black variant comes, with a Smoking Gorilla design.

Don’t get me wrong, I love stuff that lights up with bright LED’s, I love LED’s and lighting stuff up. Hey I’m an electrician! And I actually think this is quite a clever feature on the RX G.

But a Smoking Gorilla! Really? And this Gorilla isn’t just smoking a regular sized cigarette. No! He’s smoking a Giant one!

Rant over – Once you get past the madness of the LED’s and all the crazy angles along with the mirrored panels, it’s actually a very cool looking device. The Red and Amber coloured one for example looks like something out of an Iron Man movie!

One minor observation, and this may just be me but there is also a white printed ‘Wismec’ and ‘RXG’ design printed on either side of the device, but the RXG print, looks to me like it’s printed upside down? Let me know what you think?

Basic Operation

There are a few options on the RX G so here’s the basics:

  • Device On/Off – 5 clicks of Fire Button
  • Down button – Wattage Down
  • Up button – Wattage Up
  • Fire button three clicks – Locks adjustment buttons. Will Still fire.
  • Press & Hold up/down Button – Enters Menu

How Does The Wismex Reuleaux RX G Mod Perform?

I’ve used the Reuleaux RX G device with a number of different atomisers to get an idea of who this device is suited to. And to be perfectly honest I’m still a little perplexed. I’ll try and explain why.

Looking at the specification, without seeing the device, you would probably assume this is ideal for either some form of MTL setup, or perhaps a higher resistance Sub-Ohm coil. Mainly due to the fact this is a single 18650 device.

However, and this is a big however. When you see the device, I’m pretty sure the majority of seasoned MTL vapers will probably go back to their Aspire device to better match their respectable image.

So with this device lighting up brighter than an 18 years old Peugeot 206, it would be assumed the device is better suited to a younger vaper. However the majority of younger vapers are more likely to be vaping on tank and rebuildables that require high power. With the RX G being an 18650 device, even with its high 100w output, I’m not quite sure the RX G will cut the mustard.

Now I don’t consider myself a ‘respectable MTL Vaper’ nor do I consider myself a ‘Younger vaper’ and fortunately for me. I found a happy medium.

Sticking a 24mm or 25mm RDA with a single coil, that comfortably vapes at around 60-70 watts I found I got a good balance of battery life and decent power output.

I have a bit of a problem with any single 18650 device which offers 100 watts. It’s just not practical, nor is it likely to fire at 100 watts for very long, if at all.

Nonetheless, when it comes to power output, the RX G does a decent job and to me doesn’t seem under-powered, in fact it keeps up very well.

Can the Wismec Reuleaux RX G Be Practical?

The RX G is practical enough for someone who requires low power and something which is fairly pocket friendly. Perhaps also for someone who requires LED’s to be seen in the dark? Because the LED’s are pretty darn bright on this device!

Should you require excellent battery life that can easily last a full day, then you may have to consider what power output you require before picking this device up.

Pros

  • Funky looks make this device stand out
  • LED’s aren’t for everyone. But I like it!
  • Display and functions are simple and clear
  • Power output is good
  • Can house a 25mm atomiser before over hang

Cons

  • Unusual style not for everyone
  • Single 18650 with 100W output is a no for me
  • A Smoking Gorilla! Really!?

What Could Be Improved?

I’m really torn with the RX G, for a number of reasons. I suppose it’s a little like when you have a favourite movie, and then the sequel is a complete flop.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the RX G is a flop.

But it’s just not as good as the previous Reuleaux devices. I really think it could have been named something completely different and then it wouldn’t have been linked to its predecessors.

Personally, if the RX G was a Dual 18650 or single 21700 device, I would probably have rated this a lot higher and certainly added it into my regular daily rotation. But the fact this is a single 18650 just puts me off.

Final Review Verdict

Overall I actually struggle not to like the RX G device.

More because it appeals to my techy geek 18 year old self with its flashy LED’s and cool angles. The trigger style fire button is also a pretty cool look.

There are obviously some items I feel could be improved, ideally this should be a 21700 device and certainly ditch the smoking Ape. But apart from that it’s actually a well-made, funky bit of kit!

I guess it’s the fact this this device is just DIFFERENT that makes me like it. Different isn’t always bad, but sometimes different is just pointless.

The RX G isn’t a pointless device, it’s just different.

The Wismec R40 review, and this is the new ‘lite’ version of the R80 pod mod.

At first, I couldn’t find the mention of pod or pod mod on the Wismec website or any info about the R40, however, after another look I have found one small mention, which refers to it as a pod mod!

Wismec R40 Pod Mod cap on top

Founded in 2014, Wismec devices are designed in US and manufactured in China.

To me Wismec is a brand that is know for decent, well built and reliable products without having to constantly flood the market with new products, unlike some other vape brands.

The Wismec Reuleaux range is huge in both size and popularity. I’ve counted 12 different devices in the Reuleaux range, however it’s the RX200 that has a place in my heart as my longest lasting mod, it’s served me well!

Interestingly, launched in early 2020, the R80 was Wismec’s first pod system on the market.

You could argue that was a little bit late to join the pod race but I disagree, if anything the R80 if more of a pod mod, so I would say they were not too much late into the pod market, but early into the pod mod market.

What To Expect From The Wismec R40?

The Wismec R40 is a lot more basic than I expected it to be.

From looking at the device I thought it was going to be a ‘full on’ pod mod, however after using it and looking at the functionality of it, it seems more like an advanced pod system.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod cap on bottom

Although Wismec hasn’t really pushed the pod mod branding, they do refer to it as a pod mod, so that’s how I will treat it in regards to this review.

With an internal 1700mAh battery and max wattage of 40w the R40 is definitely a smaller version of the R80.

In regards to appearance, the R40 is definitely ‘unique’. It has a triangular shape (similar to the Reuleaux mods) with rounded edges but the most eye catching aspect of the R40s appearance is the ‘Dazzling Grille Panels’.

The R40 makes use of a 0.96” OLED Screen, variable wattage, a smart setting and the coils have adjustable airflow.

Oh and did I mention it comes with a handy dust cap / cover? I like it a lot more than I did to start with, let’s find out why.

Design and Build Quality

The unique looking Wismec R40 kit, comes in a variety of 5 different colours.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod colours

Wismec R40 Battery / Body

The triangular shape of the R40 is inspired by the popular Reuleaux range, it is that shape along with the grille panels that make the system look so unique.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod unique gem like design

There are two of these panels and they are rather… interesting. The honeycomb styled holes in the panels allow you to see the reflective sticker below, put together makes the device look like it is covered in diamonds/ gems.

Although the system is made from zinc alloy, it has a rather smart bushed stainless steel look to it.

Above anything else it feels really good in hand and overall it feels tough and durable.

The Wismec R40 Pod

There has been some effort put into this pod, as it’s not just any old square or pod.

As you can see the pod is same shape as the mod, it fits in at any of the 3 points of rotation and the mouth piece is built into the pod.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod pod

The mouth piece is a nice size and shape that will suit most (MTL and DTL) vapers. The pod curves up to form the mouth piece in a way that even the curvature sits quite nicely on the lips.

I was really happy when I saw the plug for the fill hole because they’ve made it huge – finally a pod system that caters for nail biters…although, in the spirit of not being able to do right for doing wrong, it’s a bit too big.

When putting the pod into the port, you have to make sure the plug doesn’t go on the wrong side of the device, or it lifts it open and could potentially damage the plug.

The pod is all round translucent, but most of the liquid is below the pod connection port, so you can see when the e-liquid is dropping, but not quite when its nearing empty, unless you remove the pod or tip the system on it’s side, and then you can see exactly how much liquid is left.

Wismec R40 Pod Connection

The pod fits into the port quite nice and flush. Of course there is a slight movement if you try to move it but I’m content that it’s tight enough, any tighter would be too tight.

The pod is held in quite firmly by 3 magnets; one in each corner.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod pod connection

Due to how well the magnets hold the pod in place and the curvature of the mouth piece, you would think it’s quite hard to remove the pod.

Well that would be true, but Wismec has very cleverly put a lip on each corner making it a lot easier to remove the pod even for us nail biters.

Wismec R40 Airflow

The airflow on the R40 is very generous for a small pod mod.

On the exterior of the device there is 10 holes, that comes into the system right beside the bottom of the coil.

If you’ve read or watched any of my previous reviews, you’ll probably know, I’m really not a fan of the coil base thing, where the coil base detaches from the coils and it’s those bases that have the adjustable airflow.

Well Wismec either listened, or they’re on the same brain frequency. Although the R40s adjustable airflow is on the base of the coils, the bases are built into the coils!

Wismec R40 Pod Mod coils together

It should also be mentioned that each coil has it’s own size airflow, so the adjustable airflow on the 0.3ohm coils, is bigger than on the 0.8ohm coils.

The adjustment bands are very loose, not so loose that they move on their own accord but there isn’t much resistance. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, as long as there is enough resistance to stop it moving on it’s own accord.

The Screen and User Interface

The screen is 0.96”, which is a fairly decent size for such a stumpy device.

I like how the screen is integrated with the rest of the device.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod buttons and screen

The black screen panel doesn’t just cover the screen, it goes up and around the buttons. Okay, it’s only a little detail but I think it makes a big difference in regards to appearance – I like it.

The UI (User Interface) can go along way in regards to a device looking good and being nice to use. I think adding a bit more detail in detailed graphics to very basic device can make it seem a lot less basic.

Adding a bit more detail is exactly what Wismec has done.

The display has a sort of sports car ethos about it.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod screen

In the top left corner is the coil resistance. The battery indicator is in the top right corner with a very prominent percentage.

In the center is the power setting and then in the bottom corners we have the current puff length counter and the puff counter.

Wismec R40 Battery

All that’s left to mention is the battery, which is built in with a 1700mAh capacity.

I think that’s a decent size, it’s not ground breaking big but it’s not small for a 40w kit.

As I just mentioned the battery indicator display as a small bar and a percentage.

Although I’m a massive fan of the battery percentage information, on this devices the battery percentage goes down in increments of 10%. Okay that’s better than just a bar, but I would have been much happier with increments of 5% or less.

Wismec R40 Top Cap / Cover

A top cap is always a good idea, it keep all the little unwanted things, like dust, sand and pocket fluff out of your mouth piece.

I was obviously pleasantly surprised to see the R40 coming with a top cap, although at first I thought it was destined to go missing.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod top cap off

However, after a day of using it I realized there is a special place to store the cap.

The cap fits on the top with a notch on each side that loosely clip into place.

When you’re using it, the mod is designed to hold the cap on the bottom.

Wismec R40 Pod Mod cap connection to base

It’s clever, I like it.

If the cap starts to become a bit loose on the bottom of the device, just press the tough lips inwards (not too hard) just a little bit off pressure seems to go along way, although you can’t really see a difference.

Wismec R40 – Quick Start Guide

Change Coil

Wismec R40 Pod Mod change coil

  • Remove the pod from the system
  • Holding the pod upside down, pull the coil out of the pod
  • Drop a small amount of liquid into the new coil
  • Push the new coil into the base of the pod
  • Set the airflow to your preference
  • Fill the pod with e-liquid and wait a few minutes for it to soak in

Note: Try to change the coil when the e-liquid level is as low as possible to avoid wasting your juice.

Filling the Pod

  • Remove the pod from the system
  • Holding the pod with the red plug facing up
  • Remove the plug and pour e-liquid into hole
  • reapply plug and insert onto pod

If using a coil for the first time, allow a few minutes for the liquid to soak into the cotton – known as priming your coil.

Button Operations

  • Turn On/Off = Press fire button 5 times quickly
  • Adjust power = Press ‘-’ or ‘+’
  • Lock/Unlock = Press fire button 3 times quickly
  • Enter Settings = Press and hold ‘-’ and ‘+’ simultaneously

  • Colour: Change the colour of the screen- Red, Gold, Green, Blue
  • ID Check: Product information – batch code
  • Default: Restore factory settings
  • Exit: back to home screen

How Does The Wismec R40 Perform?

When you insert the pod, the device displays the coils recommended wattage range, which I think is a great and useful feature.

WV-M 0.3ohm Coil (Pre-Installed)

This coil is designed to be used at 25 – 40W and the smart feature recommends 35W.

In good tradition, I used it with the Got Salt Peachy Promise, which is a peach and passion fruit Nic Salt, mixed up at 50VG/50PG.

0.3ohm coil

At 25w, regardless of airflow, there isn’t a lot of flavour, but you can still taste the peach but it isn’t very prominent and there isn’t a great deal of vapour either

The device recommends 35W for this coil and it is a nice power for it. At 35W you get a nice prominent taste it’s hard to explain, it almost fills the mouth with flavour but not quite, it leaves you wanting a little bit more… do you know what I mean? The vapour production is like the amount of smoke you get from a cigarette.

Maxing out the mod at 40W you get a prominent flavour. It fills the mouth nicely and the vapour production is just above the amount of smoke you would get from a cigarette.

All of the above, is in regards to using the coil Mouth To Lung and I didn’t really notice a huge difference in flavour from changing the airflow.

However when using the device Direct To Lung I didn’t really get any flavour, until I turned the airflow down.

With the airflow turned down at 35-40W the coil produces a nice flavour and a small but thick cloud.

WV01 Single 0.8ohm Coil

This coil is designed to be used at 12 – 20W and the smart feature recommends 16W.

Again, I used it with the Got Salt Peachy Promise, which is a peach and passion fruit Nic Salt, mixed up at 50VG/50PG.

0.8 ohm coil

Way down low at 8w, irregardless of airflow, there isn’t a great deal occurring, there is a small amount of vapour and no taste.

12W is the bottom of the recommended range and it’s where the flavour starts to come through, although it still isn’t very prominent but the vapour production is becoming more like the smoke from a cigarette.

The system recommends 16W and here, with the airflow fully open, the flavour is nice and prominent at the back of the mouth and again the vapour production is similar to the smoke from a cigarette.

However with the airflow turned down real low, there is next to flavour.

At 20W the flavour is still greatly prominent, but now instead of feeling condensed at the back of the throat it fills the mouth nicely.

The coil handles 25W just as well, there is a great prominent flavour, it’s smooth and there’s no signs of burning.

With Direct To Lung vaping, the coil seems to struggle a bit, the flavour is lessened but there is still no dry hits.

Having said that, if this device is designed for DTL, this coil certainly isn’t.

Wismec R40 Coil Summary

I tried both coils with 70/30 liquid (Juccier Strawberry Mango Crush) and they both handled the liquid just fine.

Out of both coils, I think I prefer the 0.8ohm coil. Purely because there isn’t much between the coils and I don’t think you gain much more from the 0.3ohm coil especially to justify the extra battery power.

Wismec R40 Battery

The Wismec R40s built in battery is 1700mAh which I think is a fair size for a device like this, let’s take a look at what you can expect from the battery.

If you use it at full power (40w), you’re going to get roughly 9 hours use – if you have a 2 second puff every other minute continuously (280 puffs) – I think that’s decent.

But let’s say you use the 0.8ohm coil at it’s top recommended wattage (20W), you’re going to double your usage, that’s 560 puffs, a 2 second long puff for 18 hours.

Obviously you could turn the power down even more for an even longer lasting battery.

Charging The Wismec R40

So if you prefer the 0.3ohm coil at 40w, 9 hours isn’t a full day, so we’re going to need to get some charge at some point.

Luckily for us the R40 is complete with a USB-C 5V/2A charge rate; meaning it fully charges in less than an hour.

Pod Mod charging

Truth be told I kept missing when it finished but it’s definitely less than an hour, between 45-55 minutes.

While charging it has an awesome graphic of charge entering the battery…at least that’s what I think it’s supposed to be, but it looks more like green vape.

Then above that you have the battery status bar and it also has a battery percentage.

Charging Cable and Lanyard

Its not the first time I’ve had vape hardware with this type of charger but I still think it’s a pretty cool idea.

You’ve basically got a lanyard, on one side of the lanyard is an 80cm tape measure and on the other side is the Wismec logo.

Pod Mod charger lanyard

If you undo the clasp of the lanyard it releases the USB and the USB-C connectors. Don’t be deterred by the USB, it doesn’t have the rectangle frame that normal USBs have but rest assured it works just the same.

I have heard one or two people disliking the idea because they don’t like using lanyards.

I disagree, if you like wearing lanyards it’s a super cool and convenient idea. If you don’t, then, well it’s still a USB-C charger, I don’t see the issue.

lanyard charger

I’m not sure if there is different colours or what the situation is but the pink / purple does look pretty cool, although it’s not really my colour.

Wisemc R40 Airflow

As I previously mentioned, I usually moan about this type of airflow, but with their airflow built into the coil, rather than a coil base, I don’t mind it so much.

The airflow holes built into the coils are different sizes, which is great.

The adjustable airflow is nice and versatile, with the airflow fully turned off, it isn’t airtight but it’s not far off and fully open is rather generous.

The 0.8ohm coil has the smaller airflow of the 2 and it is big enough to allow restrictive Direct To Lung vaping

The 0.3ohm coil with the airflow fully open allows a decent amount of airflow for a 40w system, as I stated above, perhaps too much for Direct To Lung.

Does The Wismec R40 Leak?

There has been liquid in the connection port but I’m pretty sure that’s, in most part, from over filling the pod.

Dust Magnet

I previously mentioned the handy little lips on each corner of the pod that help you get the pod out of the system, if you can’t get a grip of it.

We’ll they are a good idea, however I though it was worth while pointing out that there little ledges tend to collect bits of dust and pocket fluff.

It’s not a huge deal and it’s not that noticeable, but it is something that I’ve never really noticed on a system before so I thought I’d point it out.

It hasn’t deterred me though, I’m still in support of the lips, I think they’re a great idea.

Pros

  • Great for MTL Vaping
  • Decent battery
  • Fast Charging
  • Looks Good
  • Feels Good
  • Easy To Use
  • Lanyard / Charging Cable in 1
  • Changable Push Pull Coils
  • Feels Durable
  • Adjustable Airflow

Cons

  • Not the best for DTL
  • Minimum Features
  • Not 100% Leak free

Final Review Verdict

I stick with what I said at the beginning of this review, to me the Wismec R40 is more like an advanced pod system than a pod mod in my eyes.

The reason I say it’s less like a pod mod, is because it only has a few features and it’s quite low in power.

It is great as a Mouth To Lung device but there isn’t much room for adjustment as a Direct To Lung Device.

Overall it is capable of great flavour and maintaining power all day. It looks good and feels great in the hand and on the lips.

It a great device for anyone one looking for a small pod that’s a little bit more advanced and powerful than your standard pod systems.

Will the Wismec R80 pod mod destroy the competition – and is it better than the VooPoo Vinci-X?

Me and Wismec have a bit of history, first I recommend their products as well built and durable – and then they steal my photographs!

Wismec R80 Pod Mod Review

But no, I’m not being salty about it, because I can’t really fault their devices that much.

The Reuleaux Tinker 2 kit could be used as a hammer, and the Wismec AI was a little different but it performed as you would hope, and with all the positives on design, build quality and function.

What I really need to find out about Wismec, is can they do good flavour?

And have they developed a ‘category leading’ pod mod suitable for Mouth-to-lung and Direct to Lung Vaping?

What Can We Expect From The R80 by Wismec?

So it’s clear this is a competitor to the VooPoo Vinci X pod mod as it also houses a single 18650 battery, a higher wattage capacity than its competitor with 80w to be enjoyed.

But it also has some ‘stand-out’ features.

The USB Type-C Connector is right up there with modern times, and also included is a 510 adaptor so you can make use of your own sub ohm tanks and RDA’s.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod

The Wismec R80 has all the other usual features such as a full 0.96In colour display, 2 coils inside the box, and the pod houses 4ml of e-liquid (2ml TPD).

So let’s crack on with the Wismec R80 review and see what this kit is all about…

This kit was sent to me for the purpose of review.

All views and opinions are solely those of my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of others.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Wismec R80 in its ‘Northern Lights’ colour variation.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod colours

The R80 has an odd ‘Triangular cylinder’ style going on. As its triangular, two sides feature a specific colour or pattern, with the third side being mostly filled by the fire button, Colour display and adjustment buttons.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod side on

Each side has 5 fairly large airflow holes near the top of the device.

The Wismec R80 pod mod comes in 2 general finishes which appear to be Gun Metal and a more Stainless Steel look.

However, I cant find information on what material the device is actually made from, so I assume its a Zinc Alloy or Aluminium?

The gun-metal version is however, an absolute finger print magnet – it has an extremely polished finish which is really nice, but yeah – its a mega finger print magnet.

At the base of the device is the ‘screw-in’ battery compartment and the USB-C port.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod battery

At the top of the device is obviously where the pod is installed. 3 Large magnets sit inside of the Wismec R80 along with 3 power terminals.

With a pod installed, and the included lid clipped on the top, its a big ol’ pod system for sure, however, the build quality as a whole really is top notch and it also looks premium.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod In the Hand

The triangular shape fits almost perfect in the hand and it has a decent weight as well.

Looking at it, its very similar in size to the usual 60ml short-fill bottle, but triangular.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod in hand

It feels very well constructed and put together and as a thumb firing device its very comfortable.

Flipping it round to be treated as a finger firer, there is a lovely flat edge with ‘Wismec’ engraved into the panel which means your thumb presses nicely against a flat edge, and not a corner.

Very well thought out indeed.

The Pod

The R80 comes with one very darkly tinted 4.0ml Pod/Tank which has quite a large mouthpiece, certainly a larger bore than that of the VooPoo Vinci X or GeekVape Aegis Boost.

in hand 2

So the R80 is looking to be more of a DTL device because of that factor.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod kit components

However the base of the pod has 3 massive magnets that clunk into the device with some force, and the push-fit coils fit nice and snug.

base

And its through the push-fit coil that the airflow is directed, thanks to the airflow adjustment ring on the base of each coil – top marks for that.

Nestled within the base of the pod is also the silicon seal to fill the pod, which is really well hidden and took me a moment to find.

How To Fill the Wismec R80 Pod Mod

To fill the pod with e-liquid you firstly remove the pod from the battery part of the device, then:

Wismec R80 Pod Mod filling

  • Locate the silicon flappy part and gently peel it back and carefully fill with your favourite e-liquid

fill the Wismec R80 Pod Mod

NOTE: Be sure to clean up any spillage as any residual liquid will rest on the magnets and connection terminals once the pod is re-fitted.

  • Re-fit the silicon seal
  • Fit the pod back into the device and leave to rest.

I strongly suggest giving the coils 5-10 minutes rest time to allow the coils to fully saturate in e-liquid – known as priming your coils.

You can prime your coils to save on waiting time by simply adding a few drops to the cotton a number of times.

But either way I’d still leave the coil to fully saturate for a while.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod Display Functions

The 0.96in Colour Screen on the Wismec R80 is fairly bright, and very well laid out.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod screen

With regards to settings, there isn’t too much to worry about as this is a wattage only device.

However there are also a couple of fire button sequences to keep in mind

  • 5 Clicks on, 5 Clicks Off.
  • 3 Clicks when on will change display colour. Blue | Red | Gold
  • Hold Fire and Left Button to reset Puff Counter
  • Press and hold Left & Right button to lock wattage (Can still fire)
  • When device is off – Press and hold Left & Right buttons to flip screen

How Does the Wismec R80 Pod Mod Perform?

During my testing I’ve been vaping on Tru Juice Blackcurrant Raspberry Lime (70/30 VG/PG) for the 0.3Ω Mesh Coil.

And Just Juice Mango Passion Fruit (50/50 nic salt) for the 0.8Ω Coil.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod – Flavour and Clouds

The 0.3Ω Coil (25-40w)

To start with, I happily sat on 30 watts with the airflow control halfway open.

At this setting the Wismec R80 delivered a ‘satisfactory’ experience, however, it was a little lacking in the flavour department.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod coils

So once I had given the coil enough time to bed in, and the cotton to get a little sticky, I ramped the wattage up by 10.

And at 40 watts with the airflow all the way open – it delivered a slightly better than satisfactory vape.

Nothing ground breaking or majorly impressive, but good enough I suppose – vapour production was very good however.

Which for me, is a bit of a let down, especially considering on the side of the box it says ‘Challenge Accepted’ Which is either their new motto, or perhaps a dig at the VooPoo Vinci? Who knows!

Nonetheless the flavour and general vape experience from the 0.3Ω is satisfactory at best.

The 0.8Ω Coil (12-20w)

I made a stupid assumption when I first started using this coil, or did I?

My assumption was that the 0.8Ω coil, with its low wattage recommendation, and traditional round-wire coil was meant for a Mouth-To-Lung vape.

And to be honest, I feel maybe that’s what Wismec are thinking too?

pod coils

So I spent almost two days toying around with using the 0.8Ω coil as a MTL setup, with the airflow almost fully closed.

And although the restriction of the airflow was excellent and dynamic, the flavour was extremely lacking, regardless as to how I set the wattage – it was lacking.

Experiment time! Empty the pod of its Nic Salts, pop the wattage to the maximum recommended 20w and bang in a 70-30 3mg bottle of Code Red (My most loved e-liquid).

And Boom! It came to life!

Of course there is a slight restriction there as the coils airflow control ring has a much smaller hole to pull in air – but the flavour was very good.

Vapour production on the 0.8Ω coil is OK too, not a cloud chucker, but certainly decent enough and the whole vape experience, when using the 0.8Ω coil as a DTL coil, is good.

Breaking-in Time

Both coils break in very quickly, in fact there really isn’t much improvement in flavour from puff number one, to puff number 50, 100 ad so on.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod base

However, the 0.3Ω coil was showing serious signs of burn within the first day, but it still managed 5 days before a hint of that burnt flavour started to show its ugly face.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod Airflow

Top marks to Wismec for making the R80 fully adjustable when it comes to airflow, it just allows a device to suit more people as they can tinker to find the best vape for them.

It’s a ‘set and forget’ kind of airflow as its hidden under the pod. So once you’ve got it set, you’re not likely to adjust it until you have to replace the pod.

Wismec R80 Pod Mod airflow control

Regardless of which coil you opt for, the airflow is smooth and only the slightest turbulence on the smaller 0.8Ω coil when using it as a DTL coil with the airflow all the way open.

Top marks for adjustable airflow coils.

Wismec R80 Battery Life

Battery life always depends on usage, and the resistance of the coils.

mod airflow

But whether you decide to use the 0.3Ω or 0.8Ω coil, at the maximum recommended wattage, you’ll enjoy at least a days battery life from a single 18650.

18650 battery

That’s the beauty of these larger Pod-Mod devices, better and longer battery life.

Obviously if you decide to fit your own tank or RDA on top using the 510 adaptor, and fire at a higher wattage, expect that battery to deplete a lot quicker.

Using the 510 Adapter

battery sledge

510 adaptors have become a big thing in the ‘Pod-Mod’ world as they allow the user to practically fit any Tank or RDA they like, onto their mod.

510 adapter

With the maximum 80w power output, the adaptor offers more versatility to the R80, however it does have its flaws.

Although the adapter clicks into the device, thanks to the strong magnets with some authority, it does pose a weird dilemma.

adapter

With your favourite RDA on top, you can happily vape away, no issues at all.

However, if like me, you like to remove the barrel, or top-cap to drip, you’ll find when you attempt to pull off the top-cap, the adapter, and the whole RDA for that matters comes with it!

adapter on mod

A very minor, yet annoying fault.

As strong as the magnets are, the 510 adaptor could really do with some kind of clip to keep it in place.

Any Other Business

My only other minor observation is that in all honesty, 80 watts is just to much for a single 18650 to produce comfortably.

Its actually a little annoying they even allow the device to power to 80 watts.

hand check

For someone either new to vaping, or experienced but maybe a little naive when it comes to battery power output.

They may be interested in this device partially because of the stated 80w output.

rear

In essence, at 80 watts, it feels more like 50 watts on a Dual 18650 regulated device.

Pros

  • Feels very well built
  • Smart Design
  • Bright, clear screen
  • Great flavour from the 0.8Ω Coil

Cons

  • The pod is very dark and difficult to see your e-liquid level
  • Flavour isn’t the best on the 0.3Ω Mesh Coil
  • Mega Finger-Print magnet
  • Not a true 80w Device.
  • Filling the pod from the base leaves major potential for moisture on the contacts
  • Pod mouthpiece is a little large for an MTL vape.

Final Review Verdict

Are we bored of pod mods already??

Possibly yes but there are certainly a few features to the Wismec R80 that allows it to be considered slightly unique.

I think they’re onto something with this particular pod mod, but in all honesty it could do with more battery power (it wont be long before we see dual battery pod mods, you heard it here first!)

R80 pod mod

There’s a number of features that I look at when trying out a device, and for something to score highly, it needs to meet certain demands.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

The Wismec R80, in my opinion is the best built in its class. Its extremely well built and put together and I have no doubt it’ll last into 2021 with a little care of the Pod terminals and regular cleaning.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

Overall, the R80 does the job. I have a feeling my 0.3Ω coil might just be a little dodgy? Hopefully if you decide to go for this kit, the 0.3Ω mesh coil will perform better.

The general vape experience is excellent thanks to the adjustable airflow control ring on the coils.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one a like?

I’d put the Wismec R80 Pod Mod in the crossover stage between ‘New Vaper’ and ‘Hobbyist’

Primarily I would class this as a ‘Starter DTL Kit‘ as apposed to a Starter Kit for a new vaper – however, it is possible to get a decent MTL draw from this, similar to a cigarette.

Have you bought the Wismec R80 pod mod kit?

Or have you given it a try?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

The new Wismec AI mod is the latest all singing all dancing Bluetooth enabled device that features the voice of Amazon’s Alexa…what a time to be alive!

So the question I’m asking, is it possible the Wismec AI will become your All In One Device for everything?

wismec ai mod review

I’m a Tech Geek – OK I’ve said it!

I absolutely love anything that’s: A – Electrical and B – allows me to do some clever s**t!

So when the Wismec AI came through the post, literally hours after reading about it, I was setting it up within minutes and controlling the lighting in my Man-Cave within half an hour.

This isn’t Wismec’s first attempt at this kind of device.

Back in October 2018, The Devil Vaper tried out the Wismec Active.

A rugged mod featuring a 2100mAh internal battery, fairly decent sound and unusually, a Carabiner Clip!

Wismec has been a bit hit and miss of late but still has a good track record of producing some very good mods indeed.

The recent Reuleaux Tinker 2 was a big hit and the rest of the Reuleax range, especially the RX2 21700, are now the stuff of vaping legends.

So Wismec has gone back to the drawing board with this one, and come up with the Wismec AI .

Artificial Intelligence?

I hope not!

But its certainly very smart.

What Can We Expect From The Wismec AI Mod?

The ‘AI’ is a mod that I’ve broken down into 2 sections – A Dual 18650 mod capable of firing up to 200 watts, and a Bluetooth Hands-Free Speaker with Alexa Integration.

Fantastic!

If I ever wanted to become a tech reviewer, here is my chance to shine!

Not 😉

At a glace, the AI doesn’t appear as robust as the Wismec Active, nor as attractive some might feel.

But it looks blatantly functional for both using as a vaping device, and a handy ‘On The Go’ Bluetooth speaker.

Wismec AI Mod box

Which of course includes a Built-In Microphone meaning you can use the device to speak commands to Alexa, along with making and receiving phone calls.

Design and Build Quality

I’m not really sure how attractive a dual battery mod could ever look with a speaker attached the side.

But Wismec hasn’t done a bad job with regards to the design, its not the most attractive but its fairly small considering its power output and although its heavy, its not as heavy as you would imagine.

The device really is split into 2 separate functions.

On the front is the speaker with Bluetooth buttons including the magic Alexa button, along with Power button and Volume Controls.

Wismec AI Mod speaker

And on the side are the controls we are all accustomed to with any dual battery mod.

A large fire button, decent sized OLED screen and  +/- Buttons.

AI mod buttons

Considering its dual function, its designed fairly well and fairly compact.

But definitely not the most beautiful mod I’ve ever seen.

In The Hand

As a thumb, or finger firer – Its OK in the hand.

The AI really isn’t exactly ergonomic or aesthetically pleasing, it’s made for function over comfort.

But putting that to one side, its fine really.

Its quite compact to be fair and the paint finish is really nice so its smooth yet still a little grippy in the hand.

Wismec AI Mod in hand

The battery door has a nice pattern to it meaning you get a little grip from that also.

One thing that’s great with this device, is its able to take up to a 30mm diameter tank, which for me is ace as I,ve really been enjoying the larger style RTA’s lately.

Wismec AI Mod OLED Screen

The 0.91in screen is basic, but bright and clear and has all the usual information including:

  • Level of both batteries
  • Coil Resistance
  • Voltage
  • Current in Amps
  • Wattage or Temperature the device is set at

Wismec AI Mod Basic Operation

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to navigate the Wismec AI:

  • 5 Clicks of the Fire Button On/Off
  • 3 Clicks of the Fire Button enters Menu to change Output Settings
  • Press & Hold Fire and + button to enter Main Menu
  • Press & Hold + & – Button to Lock Keys

Wismec AI Mod Main Menu

Within the main menu you can:

  • Change the bottom display to  Puff, Amp or Time
  • Adjust the Power and Timeout Time
  • Turn Wismec Logo On/Off
  • Check Hardware & Firmware Versions
  • Check Battery Voltages

As a whole, the Wismec AI is fairly easy to navigate once you get used to the controls.

Bluetooth Speaker Functions

Not the first time I’ve had to put together a Tech tutorial to go along with a vaping device, so here goes!

So first off, here’s an image to best describe what the buttons, on the front of the device do!

wismec bluetooth

First off, get the AI connected via Bluetooth to your mobile phone.

Press the ‘On’ button at the front of the device, head over to your phone and discover the device in the Bluetooth settings.

Once connected, its time to Link Alexa to the AI.

Simply pressing the large round microphone button on the Wismec AI will pretty much tell you what to do

‘You haven’t connected your device in the Alexa App, to set it up – Add a new device, then choose Alexa Enabled Headphones’

Once you have scrolled through the options, the Alexa app will try to discover the Wismec AI.

It took me a few tries the first time I wanted to connect.

But make sure you try and discover ‘Headphones‘ Not ‘Speaker’

set up

Hey presto! You’re now free to enjoy all of the Amazon features along with everything Alexa has to offer.

Now everything is setup – you’re also free to use the Wismec AI as a complete Bluetooth Speaker, meaning you can use the device for Hands-free calls, playing your favourite music and even switching your lights on and off.

If you’re eagle eyed, you’ll see it took less than 10 minutes to configure, and that’s including me typing the description, whilst taking screen shots!

So simply put, its easy to setup and configure.

How Does The Wismec AI Mod Perform?

Before you ask:

Yes you can vape and make a call at the same time.

Yes you can vape and listen to your favourite playlist.

Yes you can vape and switch your living room lamps on!

It works, and it works really well and really fast.

But first, as a Dual 18650 mod, it performs very well and it actually feels a little overpowered.

For example, set at 80 watts, its delivering much more power than the GeekVape Aegis Legend, and the Ultroner Gaea mods.

Maybe around 10-20 watts more!

comparison

I’ve heard reports the Wismec Active was under-powered, so maybe they’ve turned the dial up to 11 and stuck a finger up at those complaining about lack of power?

How Long Does The Wismec AI Battery Last?

Like any mod, the battery life purely depends on:

  • A: The batteries being used
  • B: The resistance of your coils
  • C: The wattage you are vaping at.

But there are some battery saving ideas in play here, one for example keeps the screen blank, unless you press the fire button to wake it up.

Wismec AI Mod review

So the big thing to consider is how much of an effect the Bluetooth/hands-free options have on the device as a whole?

Well no-one would be too pleased if I stuck on a playlist of troublesome hip-hop music, set the volume to max, and vape away until the batteries died.

But what I can say, is during my normal working day, at 65 watts – taking approximately 10 phone calls during that time and vaping a hell of a lot, I experienced pretty good battery life which lasted me 9 hours!

That’s good enough for me.

battery door

Bluetooth and Hands-free Performance and Connectivity

Firstly, I’m really quite impressed with the speaker.

At maximum Volume the Bass does get a little lost and slightly distorted but only slightly.

The device does a great job of bringing out the mid ranges and the high end isn’t sharp or tinny.

So fairly well balanced.

As a hands free speaker for use in the car, its very good.

The microphone picks up your voice over other sounds really well and I never had a caller complain about me sounding too quiet.

The speaker is loud enough that I could hear the caller even with the windows open.

If, for example, you wish to make use of the Bluetooth Speaker whilst watching one of my reviews on YouTube on your phone (hehe) – you will find no delay between me talking, and the output on the Wismec AI.

Instant Bluetooth transfer – impressive!

Ive had absolutely no issues with connecting the AI to my phone, with a press of the power button it takes literally seconds to connect.

And it has connected faultlessly every time throughout my time with the Wismec AI.

Charging the Wismec AI Mod

You can charge the device Via the Micro USB port, which I feel would be more useful for this device than most considering its a hands-free Kit along with being a vape device.

But as I always stress that people should really charge their batteries in an external charger.

Battery Door

The large Wismec Panel on one side pulls off lovely using the little notch at the bottom, and clicks in beautifully thanks to the magnets on the inside.

There is a little play, but its only very small and doesn’t click around if you hold or shake the device.

Pros

  • Fairly compact considering its uses
  • Battery life is good considering its Dual Purpose
  • Bluetooth setup and function is simple
  • Speaker quality is good

Cons

  • Not the most comfortable in the hand
  • Fairly Heavy
  • Won’t win a beauty contest
  • Arguably a bit of a gimmick
  • + and – volume buttons feel to be on the wrong sides!

Final Review Verdict

If you’re not into your gadgets, controlling your lighting and sockets with your voice, and have no need for hands free communication when driving, then I’m pretty sure you will have absolutely no interest in this device.

However and if like me, you had an interest in the original Wismec Active, but felt that being a Bluetooth Speaker alone was not enough – then the Wismec AI will tick all the boxes which were up to this point, un-ticked.

Yes its not the best looking, but it performs as both a 200 watt Box mod, and a hands-free speaker with some smart features.

Have you bought or considering buying the Wismec AI Mod?

Do you think it’s a bit of a gimmick?

Have any questions about the device?

Basically the Preva DNA as the name suggests uses the Evolv DNA Go Chipset as used in the Lost Vape Orion DNA Go and the Orion DNA Plus.

It will output up to 20W but I am not sure if full variable wattage as three power modes are mentioned on a vendor site of “Low, Medium and High” which again remind me of the Orion DNA Go user modes.

Inside the mod is an internal 1050mAh capacity battery which is recharged with the supplied Micro USB cable up to 1A charging current. Also thankfully are some LED indicators to show battery capacity and mode selected.

Moving on to the pod – which is where the coil and your e-liquid live – this looks like a fixed coil jobby (i.e. coil not replaceable). So I think you will have to discard the pod when the coil has expired.

There are two pods included in the kit:

  • 0.25ohm pod – this is for DTL (Direct to lung) vapers and I would imagine lower nicotine and higher VG e-liquids.
  • 0.5ohm pod – this is for MTL (Mouth to lung) vapers and ideally high nicotine e-liquid or Nicotine Salts.

Read the following guides to find out what these terms mean:

The pod is refillable via the top fill slide port and there are apparently 2 airflow adjustment options.

So we have the Wismec Tinker 2 in for review which immediately brings a few questions to mind.

What do you do if a kit scores quite well in its original form? Well to start with, you ditch the third battery, change the styling up to make it less chunky and more square.

Update the firmware and finally make it IP67 waterproof, shockproof and dust-proof right?

Stick a cherry on top in the form of the Trough tank and you’re onto a winner right?

Well that’s what Wismec have done with the Reuleaux Tinker 2 Kit. A big bulky tank and a mod that could stand up to the well respected Geekvape Aegis Legend?

So if you’re not familiar with the original Wismec Reuleaux Tinker kit, have a look at what Neash Vape thought of the first attempt – It may look like a Basketball Shoe but it still rated pretty highly.

What Can We Expect From The Reuleaux Tinker 2 Kit by Wismec?

Looking at the bullet points, there’s not much to dislike with this kit.

The new Wismec Trough tank can handle 5ml of e-liquid (non TPD), its 30mm in diameter at its widest point and comes with a single, and dual mesh coil.

The Tinker 2 is a Dual 18650 mod capable of firing to 200w, it’s what I call a ‘Smash-Able’ mod, meaning it can cope with a drop or two and even a swim if it comes to it? And with its hard wearing appearance and soft textured leather on one side – it’s fair to say I’m quite excited to see what the Wismec Tinker 2 Mod is all about.

So let’s Crack on and see what the Reuleaux Tinker 2 Kit is all about…

Colours

The Mod itself is available in Titanium Grey, Blue & Purple, Black and Red. All kits come with a Black Trough Tank.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Black version of the Tinker 2 Kit. It really does look like something Darth Vader himself would carry around.

It also feels like something Darth Vader would carry as well, the mod is designed to be abused and thats due to its extremely sturdy build quality and general feel.

The Wismec Trough Tank

Drip Tip &Top Cap:

The 810 resin drip-tip fits snugly into the top-cap thanks to the inner O-ring, and most 810’s fit nicely but I do have some that don’t fit on so well.

Top Fill Port:

Once you find the little marker on the top of the top-fill cap, you can slide it open to reveal the silicon covered filling port.

It is a little small for the larger bottle tips but they’ve included the silicon cover over the port so the tank won’t leak should you knock it over whilst filling.

It does feel a little rough when you slide, not smooth. But its a firm slide so its not going to slide open in your pocket too easily.

The Base:

The 2 airflow slots on either side are massive and you can adjust the airflow however you like thanks to the comfortable grippy design of the airflow ring.

Trough Tank – Overall:

Overall the tank is well thought out and well built apart from the feel when you slide the top fill open and shut. It just feels rough like its metal on metal grinding together.

The Wismec Tinker 2 Mod:

510 Connector:

Not a centred 510 connector but to one end, which you’ll either prefer, or dislike. With the Trough tank on, it fills the top so there’s no option to fit anything bigger than 28mm.

In fact the tank slightly overhangs the mod. Which is a little annoying.

The connector pin itself is stiff, but springy with plenty of play for longer or shorter 510 pins.

Micro USB Port:

At the bottom front section of the Mod is the micro-usb port, hidden under a thick, snugly fitted rubber cap.

The Front of the Device

At the top of the front section is a very cheap feeling, yet made from metal and a clicky fire button with a weird design engraved into it. But it has a nice curve on it, so perfect for the thumb firers out there.

However, because of the grooves in the fire button, I noticed random bits of dirt and dust build up. Annoying.

Moving down from there is the 0.96″ Colour display which could do with being a little brighter, and bigger. But its clear enough to see. Its just a shame they haven’t made use of the space.

Below the screen is your up/down buttons for adjusting the settings and they are nice, clicky and protrude nicely against the mod.

The Battery Door

With a little slide of the latch, the battery door opens exposing your 2 battery slots which are labelled nicely inside the mod, and on the door itself.

Once the batteries are in and you close the door, you may notice a little overhang meaning the batteries won’t be making a good connection and the device won’t turn on.

With a little bit of a push of the door, you’re good to go…. Not very good IMO.

Externals:

I couldn’t find out what the mod is made of, but its tough, thick metal thats for sure, and on one end, is a nice curved crocodile styled leather which gives the mod a nice feel and improves comfort in the hand.

Also reduces the chances of the mod slipping out of your hands.

The Tinker 2 Mod – Overall:

A beast of a mod in general. Extremely well put together and designed nicely. Its a shame about the battery door. I hope its only my battery door that doesn’t click in smoothly and not all of them. It still goes down as a Con regardless.

Apart from that it really does feel, and look like a robust mod for every day use.

In The Hand

The Wismec Reuleaux Tinker 2 is a weighty bit of kit! Especially once you chuck 2 freshly charged batteries in there and a tank full of e-liquid.

But that appeals to me in a big way because I know I’m holding something thats built to last.

And thats not to say it isn’t comfortable.

Its curved in all the right places and as much as you can feel the little bumps and curves its sized perfectly for my hands.

How To Fill The Wismec Trough Tank

  1. Slide the top cap horizontally once you find the small marker
  2. Fill with your desired e-liquid
  3. Slide shut the top-cap until it gently clicks

The Coils

The Tinker 2 Kit comes with the WT01 and WT02 Mesh Coils. There is also a WT03 Triple mesh coil available which comes in at 0.15Ω but unfortunately that wasn’t included in the kit.

Maybe worth a try if you don’t get on with the Single 0.35Ω WT01 and the Dual 0.20Ω WT02 coil.

Both coils are also 70% organic cotton and 30% wood-pulp.

How Does the Wismec Reuleaux Tinker 2 Kit perform?

Basic operation

The Tinker 2 mod comes with a number of features and plenty of adjustments can be made. The Home screen itself displays:

  • Day, Date and Month
  • Your current power setting
  • Resistance in Ohms
  • Current
  • Battery levels

Adjusting the power up and down on the main screen is simple enough, using the 2 buttons below the screen. It adjusts in 1watt increments but it takes an age to scroll! And once you reach 200w, it doesn’t step-through back down to its minimal 1.0w either. From 1.1w to 200w takes 29 seconds!

But thankfully, a firmware upgrade is available which speeds up the scrolling massively (Takes 9 seconds to scroll now), AND round robins also!

Heres how to upgrade the firmware

Firstly, download and install the correct firmware for your device from the Wismec website for either your Mac, or PC.

Ensuring the device is OFF, with batteries installed and connect the Tinker mod to your computer Via USB.

The Wismec firmware app will quickly discover your device and you can upgrade the firmware accordingly.

Hey Presto!

The Menu

Theres a small number of button sequences to remember to operate this device:

  • 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
  • 3 clicks of the fire button will open the menu screen
  • Press and hold Left/Right buttons for 3 seconds to lock/unlock device

In the menu, using the up/down buttons you can scroll through:

Main Settings

With 3 clicks of the fire button, you open the Menu. There are 4 options on this screen:

Mode

Here you can choose your power setting, be it Wattage, TC, TCR and RTC. RTC lets you choose between displaying a digital, or analogue clock.

Setting

In ‘Sett’ you have access to a number of features:

Coil Lock is where you can lock the resistance of your coil

Power – Im unable to explain how this feature works, when you select power, it displays 200w, which you can adjust. But it doesn’t make a difference to the main screen nor the maximum wattage you can set the device to… Odd.

Stealth will shut off the display if you’re looking for that ‘Blacked Out’ Look.

Subpara is where you can select what you want displayed below the OHMS reading on the front screen. You can select between Puff Count, Amps and Voltage.

You can adjust the time and date in Clock.

In Preheat you can set the device to ramp up the initial power so the coil warms up quicker.

And finally in Timeout you can choose to stop firing the mod between 5, 10 and 15 seconds

Info

In Info you can see your Left and Right battery Voltage, and information on the device including Firmware and Hardware Version

The display and options are very easy to navigate, I just struggled a little at times with how dim the screen was. Even in low light conditions its not very good at all.

One last clever little feature, when the device is off, if you press and hold the fire button, it’ll display the time!

Sneaky little feature that’s handy if you don’t have the time to hand.

Flavour & Clouds

For the duration of my testing, I was vaping on Code Red by Darkstar. Its a fruity mix and has been my All-Day Vape for the last 3 years almost! I know it very very well.

The WT01 0.35Ω Single Mesh Coil (30-50w)

I played around with this coil for quite a few days, and no number of adjustments made any difference. Regardless of where I set my wattage and airflow, the flavour was average.

Not flavourless, but just not ‘popping’ as some might say.

I thought at first the coil may require more of a break-in time than others thanks to the Wood-Pulp, but quite simply put, this coil did not perform as I would hope.

The WT02 0.20 Dual Mesh Coil (30-70w)

Vaping between 60 and 65w with airflow two thirds open, the dual mesh coil performs nicely. The flavour is well balanced and brings out all the flavour notes, but just not the best.

But if you’re after a nice warm vape with plenty of vapour and flavour that is just satisfying enough, the WT02 coil is a decent option.

Both coils wick well with a 70VG/30PG e-liquid so wood-pulp isn’t an issue, and both coils produce a nice thick cloud and the mod fires instantly. Super fast fire action with the Avatar chip!

I wouldn’t recommend going near the 70w maximum recommended wattage because it quickly dries out the cotton.

Airflow

This isn’t a loud tank at all, in fact I was expecting it to be loud as hell when wide open considering the size of the airflow slots. But thankfully its actually quieter than a lot of tanks I’ve tried and there isn’t any whistle to worry about either no matter where you set your airflow.

Battery Life

At 65w the Tinker 2 kit gave me a full day of battery life with moderate to heavy vaping which is all I need.

If the Single Mesh coil performed better I may have stuck to that and enjoyed rolling into the following day thanks to its recommended wattage being lower than the dual WT02 Mesh Coil.

Of course you can make use of the USB port for charging and firmware upgrades, however I strongly suggest as always to use an external charger for your vape batteries.

Durability – Is the Wismec Tinker 2 Waterproof?

As I tend to do with all mods that claim to be IP67, Dust proof and shockproof. I put the Tinker 2 mod through its paces.

An IP67 rating basically means that there can be no ingress of dust, and the item can be submerged in up to 1m of water for 30minutes.

Water

Submerged in the usual large Vase, the mod survived beautifully.

No water was apparent inside the battery housing.

Nor inside the USB port protected by the silicon bung.

Shock Proof

I never go out to deliberately try and a destroy a mod that I’m testing, but I definitely give it more abuse than the average user may give their device over the time they spend with it.

The mod got thrown onto pavement, kicked about on the ground and even used as a ball for a game of basketball at the local playgrounds.

Apart from the battery door busting open when I scored an amazing 3 point shot, the Tinker 2 mod handled the abuse no problem.

Yes its a little battered but its purely cosmetic and it still functions perfectly.

Pros

Mod

  • Extremely durable
  • Simple menu settings
  • Hard hitting mod and fires instantly

Tank

  • Fairly decent flavour on the WT02 coil
  • Well built
  • Good vapour production

Cons

Mod

  • Battery Door doesn’t close correctly
  • Takes a lifetime to adjust wattage up/down (Before Firmware upgrade)
  • Its weight may be a con to some
  • The OLED display is Dim
  • The display doesn’t fill the square cutout
  • 510 not centered, may be a con for some.
  • Slight overhang with the included Trough tank

Tank

  • Flavour is poor on the WT01 Single Coil
  • Flavour is just OK on the WT02 Dual Coil
  • Top-Fill slide is rough

Final Review Verdict

Lets not mess about – as a package, this is a decent kit for someone looking for a well built, hard wearing every day tank and Mod combo.

Yes it has its flaws but most of them are purely subjective. Regardless of how clumsy you are, the mod will take a good beating and the tank is solid too.

So the 3 big questions I ask when testing a product are:

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

As long as the coils are readily available, the tank is going to see you into 2020 no problem. The Tinker 2 mod however will see you into 2025 – as long as the screen lasts that long.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

As much as the single mesh coil did not perform as I hoped, thats not to say its not enjoyable, its just not as good as the dual WT02 mesh coil. But as a whole, the tank and coils deliver the exact experience you would hope for from a Sub-Ohm tank

Is the Wismec Reuleaux Tinker 2 Kit  versatile enough to suit a new and experienced vapers?

Well this kit won’t be for a new vaper, it might be your next step. But I have a feeling this kit is designed for the experienced vaper, looking for a new every day setup for work and play.

Its build quality, 200W Output and cloudy tank make for a nice every day Sub-Ohm set-up.

Their Reuleaux range of mods has been a vaper’s staple since the brand’s inception and over the years, they’ve released numerous high performance mods that have impressed vapers on all fronts.wismec luxotic surface kit main

Amongst their latest releases you’ll find the Wismec sinuous V80 and the Sinuous V200, along with the cute Wismec Reuleaux Tinker and, a little less recently the Luxotic BF Kit, which I had the pleasure of reviewing and which I really enjoyed.

That said, I was pumped to get my hands on the Luxotic Surface Kit which features the kestrel Squonk RDTA (which is a new thing altogether, for me) and looks striking with it’s funky designs and compact, portable size…but did it impress me in other areas too?

You’ll have to read on to find out.

Build Quality & Design

I believe my first words on opening the standard, black Wismec box packaging and laying eyes on the tiny but solid looking Luxotic Surface kit was, “F*ck yes!”.

The gorgeous design of my Unistar (colour) Luxotic and the matching drip tip on the kestrel RDTA really make this kit pop on first impressions.

Wismec Luxotic Surface Mod

Okay, so the Surface is very similar in shape and dimensions to the Luxotic BF Kit which I own, the only difference being rounded edges, instead of squared off edges and the fact that the Surface is about 1mm taller and narrower when you’re facing it from the squonk bottle side.wismec luxotic surface kit review

Visually the mod differs in that there’s no brushed metal finish…the chassis, apparently, is a mix of zinc alloy, ABS, POM and a bunch of other acronyms which are, I hear, safe to use. The entire kit is black, with just the removable front panel and the drip tip in the design of your choice.

Colours are super bright and attractive and the mod feels weighty but comfortable in hand, with the finish appearing to be completely scratch resistant.

The back of the mod has the Wismec brand cast into the middle, with a sort of double Y shape surrounding the brand as a sort of grip texturing.

wismec luxotic surface kit backThe top of the mod is clean save for an SS tank seating with a deep, spring loaded, high quality BF connection.

wismec luxotic surface kit bfBecause the Luxotic, which houses the Avatar chip, is regulated and full featured, you get a control panel down one side with an almost rectangular, thumb tip sized fire button, with a fine dot texturing and a muffled but very much present click.

Below that is a 0.49” OLED screen which displays pictorial battery level, wattage, resistance and voltage.

Below that are two side-by-side adjustment buttons with the same texturing as the fire button and all controls and screen are placed within the upper half of that one narrow side of the mod.

This mod does not support onboard charging, so there is no micro USB port.

Like the original Luxotic, the Surface has a magnetised grid at the base, which you remove, along with the magnetised front panel, in order to slide out and refill the silicon squonk bottle which is inside.

wismec luxotic surface kit baseIn the Wismec Surface mod, this little metal grid, which has a tab at the side for access, actually has a very noticeable shift when you try to wobble it…it clicks from side to side, which is not great.

The decorated side panel stays on with the help of 3 huge magnets and is removed to reveal a snug chamber for one 18650, with a small box that houses the chip and such and a silicon squonk bottle below that.

The bottle has a nice SS cap and, to my pleasure, slides down and out the bottom, leaving behind a silicon stopper, which will eliminate leakage within the mod and a long SS tube which ensures you draw your juice from the very bottom of the bottle.

Unless you are careful, the battery chamber screen or decorated panel tends to go in at an angle when you try to replace it, you have to align it carefully in order to let the magnets snap it back on in perfect position.

Kestrel RDTA

Now, the squonk RDTA is by no means an innovation, since Asmodus did it in the Nefarius, as well as iJoy With their Combo Squonk RDTA, amongst others…however, I have never used one of these myself.

What is definitely new here is the mesh plate that this RDTA employs, which, allegedly, is not only super durable, but also replaceable, with a spare which is included in the accessories here.

The base of this RDTA, which has a BF 510 connection at the bottom (can be replaced with a regular pin) is basically just a thin SS disc, with enough thickness for a single o-ring to seal the glass in place.wismec luxotic surface kit kestrel

Above that is a small tank section, down into which a sheet of cotton drapes on either side, with a mesh plate element fitted over the cotton in the chamber, and a covering contraption which screws in above the plate to hold it in place. This contraption also channels airflow through the side airflow slots and over the top of the plate.

It sounds weird and it is weird but it looks like it might work, although I am not sure why they have allowed this sealing piece to cut across the top of the plate and effectively seal off the airflow over a large portion of its surface…that seems like a bit of a waste which might hinder flavour production.

Above this 2ml tank section you see the chamber which has a single piece top cap and outer barrel, tapered at the top to a very nice looking resin drip tip, which looks like an 810 from the outside but actually has the opening size of a 510 inside.

The bottom of this barrel features the same indented dot texturing as the control buttons.wismec luxotic surface kit kestrel exploded view

There is a small, 5mm airflow slot either side the barrel and, when you pull that barrel off, a fill slot is revealed on the side of the inner barrel, for when you’re using this RDTA in a non-squonking capacity.

It’s easy to mistake the fill slot for one of the airflow slots when you replace the top cap after a look at your coils, so just watch out for that.

I also noticed that the tapered part of the top cap does not conceal a domed internal space but rather a solid, infilled section which diminishes the airspace above those coils.

I’m seeing a lot of elements here which look as if they will restrict the airflow, that small inner space, small airflow slots and a narrow, possibly sub-510 drip tip. Let’s see how she vapes.

Accessories

All the tools are included for removing the seal and changing the coil, as well as an extra coil/mesh-plate, cotton sheets, o-rings and an extra squonk bottle. No cable is included as there is no onboard charge here.

How Does The Wismec Luxotic Surface Perform?

Okay, so…as I suspected, airflow is extremely tight on this set up, combined with a high noise factor when you draw that gets worse the tighter you set that airflow.

On the flavour front, I’m disappointed to say that this is not the kind of flavour I would expect from a mesh and RDTA combo.

I’m currently vaping a DIY vape juice, coolant creme soda flavour, in two tanks, one is the Kestrel, the other is a regular sub-ohm tank with mesh coils at the same resistance and at the same wattage and I’m disappointed to say that the flavour is particularly muted on the Kestrel…even compared to the regular sub ohm tank.

Dripping onto these coils alleviates that problem but this is not a dripper, because of the narrow opening in the drip tip which traps your juice…it’s supposed to be an RDTA though, but it’s not really rebuildable and it isn’t a dripper. Hmmmm.wismec luxotic surface kit screen

I think that the tiny perforations on the mesh plate may be responsible, combined with other factors like the obscuring of surface area on the plate and the positioning of the airflow over the top of the plate. It just isn’t satisfying, flavour wise.

Vapour production is good but the vapour is dull, with a lack of flavour…sorry!

As far as squonking and convenience goes…with this RDTA squonker setup to supposedly make things easier….it doesn’t.

I’ve found that only the first squeeze on a full bottle works to fill the tank, after which a vacuum is created inside the silicon bottle, which you then have to expose by opening the mod and try to squeeze at the very bottom of the bottle…which barely helps, actually.

Every single time I use it, I have this issue and it is, therefore, much less than convenient.

Another inconvenience is the little grid cover at the base of the mod. I can see this thing getting lost in future, as it has a tendency to slide off and dislodge when in use, in a bag or in a pocket.

I also found that, after one or two squonk bottles full of my regular juice was done, a heavy residue lay all over the mesh plate, probably seriously affecting flavour, which is not good to begin with and which I have not noticed with the same juice on other coils.

I find myself getting plenty dry hits here, thanks to a squonker that really fills the tank and a mesh plate that vapourises at a high rate, draining a just wet wick very quickly.

Beyond that, controls are responsive, with accurate new coil readings and solid, accurate feeling power performance.

TC, on the other hand, feels cold all round, the temperatures just feel lower than they should, for both Ni and SS.

Controls are intuitive, hand feel is good and heat distribution and resistance is great, right through the device’s range.

How To Fill

If filling manually:

  • Pull off the barrel
  • Fill through the side fill slot…not one of the airflow slots
  • Replace the barrel

If squonking:

  • Remove the base grid and the front panel
  • Slide the bottle out the bottom
  • Fill
  • Replace, pushing until the stopper seals the bottle in
  • Replace the panels
  • Squeeze until the tank fills up

How To Change the Coil

  • Remove the barrel/top cap
  • Unscrew the two microscopic screws but don’t remove them, as they are difficult to deal with when loose because they are tiny
  • Pull out the sealing piece once the screws are loose, holding upright to keep the screws in place
  • Remove the mesh plate
  • Remove the wick and replace that if necessary
  • Replace the plate
  • Replace the plastic sealing platewismec luxotic surface kit kestrel mesh

Stock Coil Performance

The mesh heating plates, which clock in at 0.25 Ohm but quickly rise in resistance with the muck build up on the plate, quite simply don’t float my boat.

I’ve been vaping this coil, which is now at 0.3 Ohms, at 60 W and juice consumption and vapour production are massive…but without the flavour.

I wanted to love these coils but unfortunately the lack of flavour defeats the purpose of an RDTA and a squonker for me.

The quick muck build up on the coils (which isn’t the result of the juice I’m using, but more a result of excessive dry hits and a very fine perforation which maybe doesn’t allow particles through the coil, actually leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Ease of build

Wismec are calling this an RDTA but there is nothing DIY about it, as you can only fit it with these mesh plates, which I don’t fancy at all. Refitting is easy enough, but the screws are near microscopic.

How To Operate the Menu System

  • 5 clicks on
  • 5 Clicks off
  • 3 Clicks to enter Mode Menu
  • Left or right to scroll
  • Fire to select

How To Replace The batteries

  • Remove the coloured front panel
  • Remove the battery
  • Replace according to markers
  • Replace the panel

Battery Life

Battery life is average and what you would expect from a single 18650 vape, giving me about 6-7 hours of solid 60W vaping.

Pros

  • Scratch proof finish
  • bright and attractive decorative finish
  • ergonomic size and shape
  • Solid power performance
  • Good vapour production

Cons

  • It’s not really a Rebuildable, is it
  • The narrow drip tip opening is not sufficient for use as a dripper
  • Flavour is very poor
  • Very rapid muck build up on the mesh plate
  • Lots of dry hits
  • Vacuum forms inside the squonk bottle when you squeeze, making filling the tank almost impossible
  • The metal grid on the base dislodges and comes off in pocket’s, bags and hand

Final Review Verdict

I wanted to like this, it looked so good on the SURFACE but that is where the goodness ends. I find vaping on the kestrel RDTA and Luxotic Surface mod both frustrating and unsatisfying and I am sorry to say that I simply can’t recommend it. Difficulties squonking and a near complete lack of flavour have just left me with a (literal) bad taste in my mouth, sorry! If you’re after a Luxotic, go for the BF model instead.

And..

Would I buy the Wismec Surface squonk mod kit if I lost/broke the device? No, I would buy myself something that does what it’s supposed to, instead.

The V80 was released along with it’s bigger brother, the Wismec V200 mod, which is for those that like a little more power and dual batteries. Wismec Sinuous V80 in hand

I received the Wismec Sinuous V80 Kit in Black but there are three other colours to choose from.

The kit was sent to me for the purposes of review. As always, I will give you my own, honest opinion of this product after a lengthy testing period.

Wismec Amor NSE Tank Specifications

Design and Build Quality

Wismec Sinuous V80

The Wismec Sinuous V80 is small, compact kit ideal for both new and seasoned Vapers alike.

Despite the V80 being a lightweight device it’s very well built, sturdy and sits comfortably in the hand.

Wismec Sinuous V80 Fire ButtonYou get a 0.91 inch OLED display. It sits neatly on the front of the device and it is bright enough to be viewed indoors or in direct sunlight.

The front outer case is transparent revealing the circuit board underneath. The device itself is finished very nicely, no sharp corners or awkward protruding edges. There is no rattle from the mod at all.

The V80 can be very easily fired using your thumb or finger depending which way round you hold it and the button stands out easily enough to locate. The fire button has a nice clicky feel to it so there is no mistaking if you have pressed the button or not.

The battery door on this Mod is easily opened with a slide outward, dropping down to reveal the battery bay. Once the battery is inserted, a slight push up and push back and the battery door is firmly closed again.

Wismec Sinuous V80 Battery Door

Wismec Amor NSE Tank

The Wismec Amor NSE Tank is quite small and only has a 3ml capacity (non TPD version).

It’s a little different to most others in that, when you wind down the airflow, it makes for a decent MTL vape. If you use the 1.3ohm MTL coil then it’s perfect for 50/50 freebase juice and max strength Nic Salts.

The Tank also comes all nicely matched up with the colour of the Mod. One thing to note is that the top cap is fixed to the glass/plastic tank itself.

The Tank is your standard “Plug and Play”, screw in coil. To insert the coil simply screw into the base, put the top cap over the bottom section then simply screw the top section of the tank down.Wismec Amor Tank Break DownFilling the Wismec Amor Tank couldn’t be simpler.

  • Slide back the top cover at the arrow until the cap goes back no further.
  • Once open you will be met by a reasonable sized slot to put your e-liquid in.

Wismec Amor Tank Fill Slot

Also, don’t forget, if you wish, you can throw a Tank of your own choice on top and as an extra Brucie Bonus, it fits up to a 26mm atomiser.

How does the Wismec Sinuous V80 Perform?

From the start, I wasn’t expecting an awful lot from such a small device but as we all know, good things come in small packages.

Everything it does, it does it well. In Wattage mode, it’s spot on. Using the Kit as a Direct to lung (DTL) or indeed a Mouth to Lung (MTL) device works well.

Throughout my time using the device it didn’t let me down but bear in mind, this is only a single 18650 device so you would be hard pushed to last a day depending on your usage and wattage, I always carried a spare battery or two to get me through.

Menu

The menu system is very easy to use.

  • A quick three clicks on the fire button brings up the Mode select.
  • Scroll through using the up and down buttons to set your desired output, Wattage, Bypass, TC-Ni, TC-Ti, or TC-SS.
  • Hold the Fire Button at the same time as the left button takes the device into stealth mode and turns off the screen.
  • Pressing both the left and right buttons locks the device.

How To Install The Batteries

You simply slide open the bottom battery door and then it drops down revealing the battery bay. The polarities are marked on the device door, though for me, as I usually point out, in not too brightly lit conditions it’s quite hard to see the markings.

Wismec Sinuous Battery Door

Wismec do state that the device can be charged via a USB cable from a PC or wall socket but they also state that it is better to take out the cells and charge them via an external charger. Using an external charger would certainly be my advice and only to use the USB cable to charge the batteries in emergencies.

Flavour and Vapour Production

When using the stock Wismec Amor NSE Tank, the flavour isn’t bad.

Obviously, when using the Tank as a DTL set up, you get a better flavour than you do using it as an MTL set up.

While I wasn’t blown away with the flavour I certainly wasn’t disappointed from a stock coil tank. The flavour produced was good using the Tank as DTL and above average whilst using it as MTL, certainly better than a lot of pod systems on the market today.

The cloud production from the tank was average and as you would expect you get more vapor using it as DTL.

The performance from this tank is good, it’s not exceptional in the flavour department but if you want a vape that steers away from the ever increasing Pod Systems out there then this will do an equal if not better job.

Pros

  • Great build quality
  • Good Flavour
  • Clean menu system and easy to navigate
  • Quick firing Mod
  • Very portable
  • Versatile Stock Tank
  • Able to take up to 26mm Atomiser
  • Upgradable firmware

Cons

  • Fingerprint Magnet
  • Polarity Visability

My Final Thoughts

I have enjoyed using the Wismec Sinuous V80 Kit a lot. It’s not often you get a tank where I can be at home and doing a bit of DTL vaping, go to work then be able to use the same Tank and e-liquid and wind down the airflow to be able to use it as an MTL set up. That’s versatility at it’s finest.

The device is very responsive and has a very clear menu system enabling you to also set the device up to meet your own personal vaping needs.

It’s a great Mod, small, lightweight and very easy to use and good looks with the matching Amor Tank sitting on top.

If you are on the lookout for a small portable device you would do well to look further than the Wismec Sinuous V80 Kit.

Wismec are very well established and very popular electronic cigarette manufacturer, they have bought us the likes of the Sinuous range: – Ravage 230, P80, V80 and Solo with other ranges in their catalogue such as the Reuleaux and CB Ranges.

This is a colourful budget combo but how do they vape as a kit? And what do we think of Wismec’s new Sinuous V200; let’s go take a close up detailed look……………………

This kit was sent to us for the purpose of this review. As always my thoughts and views are my own.

Design and Build Quality

Amor NSE Tank

Made of aluminium, plastic and stainless steel, the tank breaks into 4 parts, including the coil.wismec v200 tank bitsThe design and quality of the tank are both fine however, to me, it has a cheap feel it.

The tank has a measurement of 46mm high with a 26mm diameter, the tank will hold 3ml/2ml dependent on your country.

Some versions of the NSE tank have an option to be able to lock the top cap mine hasn’t.wismec v200 tank empty

Base

The base is made primarily of SS, the airflow control ring (AFC) ring is made from aluminium. The base has all the normal information laser etched along with a well turned 810 connection thread with silver plated connection pin.wismec v200 tank basewismec v200 tank 510 thread The bottom airflow is fully adjustable with dot airflow (AF) for MTL vaping wismec v200 tank dot afPlus a wide direct to lung (DTL) slot.wismec v200 tank afThe coil in the tank I received was over tightened when fitted at the factory.

Sinuous V200 Mod

The V200 is incredibly lightweight the frame is made from aluminium and the side panels that are made from a transparent PolyCarbonate material.wismec v200 hand

The mod measures approx 88mm by 53mm by 26mm and is Powered by Avatar chip.

The mod will fire from 1 to 200w and will also fire in temperature control with a range of 100-315°C / 200-600°F.

The V200 has the standard couple of menus to control settings but nothing we have not seen from Wismec before, for a budget mod I think the design has been done well and the build quality is quite good. While the mod has an aesthetically pleasing look to it, sadly like the tank, it has a cheap feel to it.

The mod has a dual battery compartment to hold 2 x 18650 batteries, Wismec have listened to reviewers moaning about the orientation marks for the batteries and have printed these in white on a dark background (full marks for that Wismec lol).wismec v200 sledThe battery sled is plastic with gold plated connection points and battery ribbon. The battery door, which is see through plastic, has a honeycomb pattern moulded into it with Wismec branding.

The door has 2 magnets that marry up to their partners hidden under the sled, the magnets have no movement to them once the door is in place.wismec v200 magnetsThe other panel is a duplicate of the battery door although it has been sealed to the mod. wismec v200 plastic doorsOne side of the frame has “sinuousV200” laser printed in black.wismec v200 side adThe front face of the device has SS fire and adjustment buttons along with a 0.91in OLED Screen which is fairly bright and displays all the relevant info.

How Does The Wismec Sinuous V200 Kit Perform?

For this review I have installed the 0.27Ω mesh coil into the NSE tank and filled with DR Frost Candy Cane.wismec v200 drfrost

While the whole kit is very light weight it makes for a nice handful, the combo has a stylish look to it and would appeal to most of those who like dual battery mods.wismec v200 tank use

25w

It is possible even with the 0.27Ω mesh coil installed to get a fairly good mouth to lung style vape by setting the AF to 1 dot and 25W.

While the warmth of the vapour is cool the flavour is quite good. Opening the AF up to 2 dot holes and bumping the wattage up to 35w allows for a restricted direct to lung style vape, the flavour again is good and the vapour a little warmer.

45 to 55w

Opening the AF up to the DTL wide slot at 45W felt a little underpowered for me and while the flavour was very good the vapour production was a little bit of a letdown.

Moving to 55W was better, it produced a nice warm vape with good flavour and the vapour production was a lot better.

60 to 65W

I don’t like to push stock coils to their limit or over it but I did test the tank/coils at 60w and 65W for a few toots; I found the coil performed ok at 60W but at 65W I experienced hot splash back in my mouth yuck!wismec v200 tank test

TC Testing

As normal I tested the mod with an RDA my Drop Dead with 0.17Ω SS316L dual coils at 420f and the same liquid. To change the watts while in TC click the fire button 4 times, I set mine on 65w. The result was a very cloudy vape and flavour wasn’t half bad either.

Higher Watts Testing

With my Drop Dead attached I wacked the wattage up to 100w while well outside my comfort zone, the flavour was acceptable with things getting incredibly cloudy.

I did find that when the mod gets warm the fire button has a habit of sticking, not every time but it happened to me 3 time in 1hr. A simple flick and the button came out; so worth mentioning!wismec v200 fire but

Tank/Coils

While the tank works great I do feel that the coils are slightly under powered especially the 0.27Ω. I mean, what’s the point of including coils that are only rated up to 60w with a mod that can fire up to 200w.wismec v200 200

The slide fill port will get loose the longer you use the tank, I found while I was altering the airflow or removing the tank from the V200 mod I could feel the port start to open. A minor bug I know but I felt it worth mentioning.

Pros

  • Good tank quality and design
  • Fair tank flavour
  • Fair vapour quality
  • Good mod quality and design
  • Easy to use kit
  • Light weight
  • Good looking pairing
  • Battery orientation mark

Cons

  • Loose fill port cap after prolonged use
  • Fire button can stick
  • The whole kit has a cheap feel to it

Final Review Verdict

So after taking a detailed look at the Wismec Sinuous V200 kit, I would say it’s lightweight and a stylish looking budget kit, maybe with too cheaper feel to it. It still it does the job asked of it though!

Wismec have impressed me by the way they have listened to reviewers about the battery orientation marks let hope they keep that up! The only real big letdown for me is the stated wattage of the coils, a lower ohm coil would have been welcome.

Would I buy the Wismec V200 kit again if lost or damaged? The mod definitely but the tank would be another case of “oh dear put it to one side”.

Design and Build Quality

Wismec Reuleaux Tinker

As soon as you take the Wismec Reuleaux Tinker out of the box, you are instantly hit by how well built this Mod is. I cannot emphasise enough how sturdy this device is, but, at the same time, remain sleek looking.grip tinker mod wismec

Ok, some might say “WTF” is this design. Admittedly, it may be an acquired taste but personally, I rather like it. Whether is looks like an American Basketball Shoe or not (and they have got that pretty spot on) I think it looks pretty cool and a different look to the “norm”.

In The Hand

The mod sits in the hand very well and despite the large feel it’s very ergonomic. You feel that if you dropped this Mod onto a piece of concrete, you would crack the concrete before you would chip or break the Mod itself, it is that sturdy.wismec tinker mod in hand

The device itself is finished very nicely, no sharp corners or awkward protruding edges and zero rattle.

Fire Button

The Tinker can be very easily fired using your thumb or finger depending which way round you hold it and the button stands out easily enough to recognise.

The fire button does not need a lot of pressure to fire, though, you can only fire the Mod from pressing the bottom of the “light switch” designed button.

OLED Display

You get a 0.96 inch colour display. It sits quite neatly on the front of the device and it is a very vibrant colour display. It is easily viewable in direct sunlight which makes a very refreshing change against some devices of late.

Menu System

The menu system, despite being quite in depth is very simple to use.

  • A quick three clicks on the fire button brings up Mode, Set, info and exit.
  • Clicking on Mode and you are greeted with Power, TC, TCR and RTC.
  • Clicking on each of these options brings up their own customisable options. Certainly enough variation for everyone.
  • Clicking on the Set option brings up Coil, Power, Stealth and Subpara, Clock, Preheat and Timeout. Clicking on each of these options, again, brings up each individual settings.
  • The last setting you can choose is info. This menu setting will give you battery info (Voltage from each individual battery). Version, giving you the hardware and firmware versions.

Tinker mod display screenGreat design, great feel.

Battery Door

The battery door on this Mod is easily opened with a slide outward, dropping down to reveal the battery bays. Once the batteries are inserted, a slight push up and push back and the battery door is firmly closed again.wismec tinker mod battery compartment

One thing I will say is that I found the polarity markings on the device door, for me, were quite hard to see in dimply lit conditions. Certainly, if you have even slightly sight issues, you may struggle.

Wismec Column Tank

The Wismec Column Tank is a nice looking Tank and compliments the Tinker Kit very nicely with it’s matching colour ways. The Tank is your standard, as I call them, “Plug and Play”, screw in coil.

Changing the Coil

To insert the coil into the tank, simply screw in the coil to the bottom part of the Tank, place the tank section over the base then simply screw the top part of the tank down.

wismec column tank partsHow To Fill The Column Tank

Filling the Wismec Column Tank couldn’t be simpler. Slide back the top cover at the arrow until the cap goes back no further. Once the cap is slid across, you will be met by a sizeable slot to pour your e-liquid in.

how to fill the wismec column tankThe performance from this Tank is good, it doesn’t break any records though. It’s a run of the mill Tank with good flavour and average cloudage. It is, however, very easy to use.

How does the Wismec Tinker Perform?

From the get-go, I was expecting the Wismec Reuleaux Tinker to be a good performer and I certainly wasn’t let down. From the design to the performance of the device, I can not fault it at all. The menu system is very responsive and clear, the display is visible in any lighting condition which is very refreshing.

Flavour and Vapour Production

The coil that comes with the tank provided is rated at 0.15Ω. I have constantly vaped at 65W though I feel, if pushed a little more, the coil may burn out.

wismec tinker vape kitI wasn’t blown away with the flavour though I certainly wasn’t disappointed from a stock coil tank. The flavour produced was good. The cloud production from the tank was average.

Again, you’re not going to win any cloud competitions with it but you will draw attention to yourself if out and about with it.

Wismec do state that the device can be charged via a USB cable from a PC or wall socket but they also state that it is better to take out the cells and charge them via an external charger. Using an external charger would certainly be my advice and only to use the USB cable to charge the batteries in emergencies.

Pros

  • Superb build quality
  • Good Flavour
  • Clean menu system and easy to navigate
  • Quick firing Mod
  • Ergonomic for the size
  • Very good battery life
  • Upgradable firmware

Cons

  • Debatable portability

My Final Thoughts

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Wismec Tinker kit. It’s debatable about the design and the basketball shoe look but I haven’t minded it at all.

The device is very responsive and has a very clear menu system enabling you to also set the device up to meet your own personal vaping needs.

It is a great Mod, good looks with excellent battery life as you would expect from a tri-cell device.

In conclusion, if you are on the look out for a nice looking, sturdy device that will survive a knock and fall, you would do well to look further than the Wismec Tinker.
