In for review is the Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit.

Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit hand check picVaptio are one of those manufacturers I’ve constantly heard about for years, yet I’ve never owned one of their products. To be honest the only release I’m even vaguely familiar with is the Vaptio Wall Crawler single 18650 Mod and the top filling Leno tank.

Vaptio were established in Seattle, US way back in 2014. They’re known for offering top quality vape hardware, kits, mods, pods and the like.

They dedicate themselves to changing the vaping world by constantly bringing innovation and better options to the end user.

Pod kits are now ten a penny and it feels like practically everything that can be innovated has, well, been innovated..

Does the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit offer anything I haven’t already seen?

What Can We Expect From The Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit?

The Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit falls unsurprisingly into their ‘kit’ category alongside the likes of the Prod 2, Cosmo Nebula and Spark.

It features an ergonomic coherent design, powerful flavour performance, a compact and lightweight feel and uses a precise airflow slider to fine tune either a Mouth To Lung (MTL) or Direct To Lung (DTL) vape.

We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vaping Styles.

The pod cap can be removed to expose the pod. These caps are interchangeable with the five colour schemes currently available. That means a total of 49 unique colour variations to meet the demands of even the fussiest vaper.

As a kit you can purchase the device in five colour schemes. These are Avocado Green (under review), Pastel Blue, Blush Pink, Cloud White and Charcoal Grey.

Vaptio Avocado Baby coloured pod capsBecause the Avocado baby is compact it’s designed to fit comfortably in the hand making it perfect for those always on the go.

There are actually two sealed pods available. The 0.7ohm mesh pod comes with the kit and a 1.2ohm regular wire pod can be purchased separately. This gives the user the option of two vaping styles and these are enhanced by the adjustable airflow slider on the base of the removable pod.

Vaptio Avocado baby alternative MTL pod

What’s more, the battery automatically detects which pod has been installed. To make things even clearer the pod fill stoppers are colour coded to avoid making a mistake. That’s always a nice touch – fair play, Vaptio!

Power adjustment is limited to a few clicks of the fire button allowing for a soft, normal or strong output.

Fast type C USB charging is included and it’s said to take just under an hour to revive a tired, worn out battery.

..It takes at least 24hrs to revive a tired, worn out Neil! lol

What’s In The Box

The pod kit arrives in a slip case with a pair of thumb cut outs for ease of removing. Inside, the device sits in a foam tray under the instructions and warranty card.

What's in the box of the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kitI’m always a bit miffed at the exclusion of a type C charging cable. It shouldn’t be assumed everyone already has these lying around. A brand new user most certainly won’t.

Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit – Design And Build Quality

Pod Cap and Pod

Let’s start with the pod cap. It’s a new one on me and one I quite like because it allow the kit to retain all of its elegance and aesthetics while hiding what is, a rather average looking pod.

Vaptio Avocado baby 0.7ohm mesh pod image

The pastel colours of the cap and battery section complement each other and the uninterrupted elliptical shape means it’s comfortable in the hand.

Removing the pod cap of the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kitThe non removable plastic mouthpiece pokes through the top of the cap and two oblong viewing windows are incorporated on either side.

It seems natural to assume the pod to follow the same form factor as the cap but it doesn’t. Instead it sits against a raised support plinth which is probably designed to ensure the contents don’t exceed the stated 2ml capacity.

Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit with pod cap removedThe pod attaches to the battery section via two strong magnets. I checked these and they’re rock solid. I couldn’t shake the pod free. Good stuff!

Consequently the pod looks smaller than others on the market but the build quality, at least looks on par. The silicone fill tab is one of the best I’ve seen for a long time – It’s incredibly easy to open and close even with my bitten down nails!

Fill tab on Vaptio Avocado Baby podThe pod is made of a toughened PCTG plastic that’s fully transparent so viewing remaining juice levels is a doddle.

On the underside there’s an airflow slider to take care of restrictive lung (RDL) vaping. It can be closed off for when a mouth to lung vape (MTL) is called on.

Battery Section

It’s really not much heavier than the pod and cap combined. It has a grippy, tactile feel when held and isn’t likely to slip from the hand during use.

There’s no sign of product branding or logo. Could that be a sign of manufacturer confidence? Personally it makes a refreshing change and again, adds to aesthetic appeal.

A recessed type C USB charging port is situated on the underside and there’s also three small venting holes for the 1100mAh integrated battery. Well done, Vaptio.

USN charging port on the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kitOn the front of the battery there’s a single fire button to take care of the business end. Even this has been kept flush with the main body to increase ergonomics. It’s clicky without sounding too loud.

Underneath the fire button there are four LED’s – although you can barely make them out when not in use. It seems like Vaptio have gone all out with design quality, not to mention originality.

How To Fill The Pod

  • Remove the pod cap
  • Pull the pod out of the battery section
  • Locate the fill tab on the side of the pod and lift one end out
  • Gently pour e-liquid into the fill chamber of the pod making sure not to overfill
  • How to fill the Vaptio Avocado baby podPush the fill tab back into place ensuring a good seal
  • Drop the pod back into the battery section using the magnets to secure
  • Replace the pod cap

Leave the e-juice to soak into the cotton for around five minutes before vaping.

Operation

The fire button takes care of the business side and the LED’s display the results. Let’s take a closer look.

  • Press the fire button five times rapidly to turn the device on or off.
  • Press the fire button three times to display the current power setting.
  • Pressing the fire button three times again to round robin the power level from low, medium or high.
  • Once the desired power setting is selected wait two seconds and the current setting is saved.

  • 4 LED – 100% – 76%
  • 3 LED – 75% – 51%
  • 2 LED 50% – 26%
  • 1 LED 25% – 1%

How Does The Vaptio Avocado baby Pod Kit Perform?

You’ll get the 0.7ohm mesh pod with the kit. For this reason I set the adjustable slider to wide open to see what kind of a draw I actually got.

IVG Vanilla Biscuit was used to test the coil which is a 70VG/30PG blend. I’d applied 3mg of freebase nicotine to the juice.

We tell you more about the different types of e-liquid in the guides below…

Precise airflow control slider of Vaptio Avocado Baby pod set wide open

The power setting was also set to its maximum capability of 18.5W or three Green LED’s.

Without doubt this is a semi restrictive direct lung vape but what impressed me was the sheer cloud volume. I wasn’t expecting that much and it was a pleasant surprise.

The inhale is smooth and turbulence free and the vape is relatively quiet.

As for flavour? That impressed me too. The 0.7ohm mesh coil provides some warmth on this setting which allowed the dairy notes of the e-juice to taste stronger. The Vanilla pulled through nicely and creamy notes were produced mid way through the vape.

The flavour was concentrated and longer inhales gave me the chance to savour all the subtle nuances the e-juice has to offer.

This kind of airflow restriction is where I’m at because it falls somewhere in between two styles of vaping. Mouth to lung and semi restrictive direct lung.

Using The Precise Airflow Control Slider

Yeah, that didn’t work for me. It’s too small and there’s just not enough scope for worthwhile airflow adjustment. The restriction felt the same as when fully open so I didn’t fiddle around for very long.

Power Settings

Just a quick note on these. You’ll need to constantly hit the fire button three times to make any change to power output. Remember when making an adjustment the last saved setting appears first.

Also, make sure the LED dims before attempting to vape. You’ll get a misfire otherwise.

Normal power setting on the Vaptio Avocado baby pod kit
Normal power setting provides a cooler vape.

There’s a distinct difference to power when dropping from high to normal and it takes a longer inhale to pull any warmth from the coil. That pretty much demonstrated the effectiveness of the setting.

Flavour and cloud production doesn’t suffer too much but it does feel like the coil is struggling more to produce the same creamy, dairy sub notes of the e-liquid.

In terms of cloud production there wasn’t too much difference between this and the lowest power setting to be honest. As much as this impressed me, flavour was definitely starting to falter on the lowest power setting. It was losing all its vibrant characteristics and beginning to taste a little flat.

This might be the setting to use in an emergency. When the battery is reaching its last 25% of charge and any wall socket is miles away..

A Note On Airflow

As much as I love the aesthetics and the pod cap, the device left me scratching my head.

How was airflow entering?

The only thing I could figure was that it was entering via the two viewing windows and travelling down between the plinth and pod.

Rite of airflow passage on Vaptio Avocado baby pod kit
Does the gap between the plinth and the pod provide the answer to my airflow woes?

I used masking tape to block the viewing windows but that didn’t make much difference. I even taped the seam between pod cap and battery as well as any gap where the mouthpiece passes through the pod cap.

Nada!

I can’t see anyone using the precise airflow slider for anything other than closing it fully for a MTL vape. The adjustability is limited to an extremely small single pin hole and although it’s workable doesn’t produce enough of a difference.

When it’s in the wide open position it provides a restriction I enjoy, plenty of saturated flavour and more cloud production than expected so I’m more than happy to leave well enough alone..

Battery Performance

I managed 8 hours continuous use from the 1100mAh integrated battery. When power fell to a single green LED I monitored the remaining uptime. Vaptio tell us at this point there’s 25% battery life remaining and since I got 2 hours use that claim is bob on! Good stuff..

When the battery needs recharging a single LED will flash five times to prevent further vaping.

During use I vaped around 4.5ml of e-juice and the pod was refilled twice. The strongest power output was used too so the 0.7ohm mesh coil isn’t exactly a juice guzzler.

It took exactly one hour to charge the battery from flat so that’s a bit longer than Vaptio state. No biggie as that’s the norm for type C charging anyway.

One thing to be aware of when charging. The 4 LED’s remain lit once fully charged. It would’ve been useful if they just turned off.

Pros

  • Excellent aesthetics and ergonomically designed
  • Extremely light weight and pocket friendly
  • Easy to view remaining juice levels through pod cap windows
  • Strong magnetic contacts (including pod cap)
  • Great flavour and even better vapour production using the 0.7ohm mesh pod
  • No leaking from the sealed pod

Cons

  • 1.2ohm regular wire MTL pod not included with the kit
  • No USB charging cable supplied
  • No auto draw option (subjective)
  • Precise airflow slider isn’t that precise

Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit – Final Review Verdict

I must admit I love the idea of the pod cap. It may have been done before but for me at least, represents innovation. As a consequence, the Vaptio Avocado baby looks the biz in terms of aesthetics and ergonomics.

Even the LED’s are invisible when not in use. Its small details like this that turn a good looking device into a great looking device. That’s exactly how I feel about the Vaptio Avocado Baby.

I had no issues vaping using the most open airflow setting as I got the semi restrictive lung hit I know and love. The flavour was consistently good and cloud production was fantastic.

The precise airflow adjustment on the base of the pod is the only blot on my vaping landscape. It’s also a shame that the 1.20hm regular wire pod isn’t included because there’d be a reason to use the slider then. To close it off for a MTL experience.

When all’s said and done, the Vaptio Avocado Baby is the sleekest, sexiest pod kit I’ve used this year. Not only based on appearance but functionality, performance and ergonomics.

It won’t disappoint.

The Vaptio Cosmo G1 pod kit review and this is a stylish little set up offering both MTL and DTL coils.

This one has a unique feature and is the world’s first pop up pod – more on that in a moment.

vaptio cosmo g1 review

Vaptio is one of the better of the established vape manufacturers known for its well designed kits – most if not all really do look pleasing to the eye.

We’ve reviewed a lot of Vaptio vape kits the most recent being the ear bud look-a-like AirGo – the Cosmo Plus – the badass IronClad Frogman C and the powerful N1 PRO 240W Kit Lite.

So a decent stable of vape devices and kits – let’s hope the Cosmo G1 lives up to those exacting standards.

What Can We Expect From the Vaptio Cosmo G1?

Obviously this is a pod kit however the coils can be swapped.

It’s a top fill with a 3ml capacity and you release the pod via the pop up button.

vaptio cosmo g1 reviewed

There’s a decent sized 1500mAH battery and it has a Type-C USB – so expect super-fast charging.

OK, this was sent to me direct from Vaptio – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies.

So, let’s see if the Vaptio Cosmo G1 pod kit is an out of this world vape…

Key Features

It’s the ‘pop out pod‘ feature that sets this pod kit apart from the others.

You simply press the unlock button and out pops the pod – nice little touch.

pod pop up lock

The Vaptio Cosmo G1 is a top fill and there’s x4 compatible coils – 2 included in the box: Cosmo C3 at 1.2ohm and the Cosmo C4 at 0.7ohm mesh.

The C3 is best between 9 – 15w and used for MTL whilst the C4 is best between 10 – 20w and is for DTL.

Read more about MTL and DTL vaping styles.

The coils can also be used in the Cosmo tank – the Tyro and Tyro Nano kits.

The mod is powered by a 1500mAH battery with a power range of 5 to 35w.

vaptio cosmo g1 airflow

Airflow comes from the slider above the pod pop out button – more on that later.

Design and Build Quality

I have to say the Vaptio Cosmo G1 is a beautiful pod kit to look at and hold.

The design is simple yet elegant and the ‘leather’ effect on the main body is attractive and extremely grippy.

The Vaptio logo is tastefully done as is the Cosmo G1 on the side.

The buttons are nicely clicky and the airflow slider is very smooth indeed.

The screen is small and basic however it is crystal clear.

Build wise it’s wonderfully put together and the pop out pod action is instant and works a treat.

vaptio cosmo g1 in hand

As to how long that feature works times will tell.

The pods are 3ml and slightly tinted and there are x2 juice viewing windows which when held up to the light you can just about see your level.

The fill port is a silicon bung and not that easy to open when on the mod – I just pop it out and fill that way.

There’s only one pod in the box so if that bung snaps you’ll need to buy a new kit.

The Vaptio Cosmo G1 features a rather nice 510 drip tip that really feels good in the mouth.

vaptio cosmo g1 pod kit colours

The kit is currently available in red – black and blue.

How Does the Vaptio Cosmo G1 Perform?

For the taste test I used the Supergood Cosmopolitan 70/30 VG PG for the DTL coil and the same flavour but in nic salt for the MTL coil.

A cosmo’ for the Cosmo you might say lol.

Vaptio Cosmo G1 C3 1.2ohm Coil MTL

I primed the coil and left it for a good 10 minutes to let the juice saturate the cotton.

At 9w not a lot was happening flavour wise – however bumped up to the max of 15w and things improved significantly.

c3 coil

A really good crisp flavour with a surprising amount of clouds for such a small coil.

Closing the airflow almost shut and as you might expect this was a tight vape – almost the perfect MTL draw.

Wide open and it is very airy and I found a happy medium half open.

This coil is, IMHO, very good indeed and ideal for a brand new vaper straight off the lit cigs or those of use who enjoy a genuine MTL vape.

Vaptio Cosmo G1 C4 0.7ohm Coil DTL

Again at the low wattage of 10w the vape was OK but nothing special.

And yup – bumped up to 20w and again the coil sparked into life.

c4 mesh coil

Really good flavour off this one even with the airflow wide open.

Plenty of clouds and a really nice tickle at the back of the tonsils even with the higher VG.

I found the sweet spot with the airflow half open giving me a really nice loose draw.

Pros

  • Great design
  • Well built
  • Easy pod change
  • Choice of coils

Cons

  • Filling a little fiddly
  • Coil holder a little fiddly

Final Review Verdict

Just a couple of niggles.

Firstly the filling is a little tricky and the hole is rather small.

filling pod

I found it much easier to fill while the pod was off the mod and I’m not sure how long the stopper will last.

Having to screw the coil into the holder is also a bit of a pain, it’s not such a big deal really but for some reason it felt like a step to far.

coil holder

Other than that, the Vaptio Cosmo G1 pod kit is impressive.

From the design and styling to the build quality – it really is top notch.

Both coils do their job very well indeed, and that airflow slider really does allow you to totally tailor your vape.

It’s the perfect kit for a new vaper as they can begin with the MTL and eventually try the DTL as they progress on their vaping journey.

So yes – I highly recommend the Vaptio Cosmo G1 – impressive is the word!

The Vaptio AirGo Kit is a funky new addition to the company’s vast range of vape devices.

airgo main image

As you can see this has quite a strong image – bearing quite a similarity to the portable “ear pods” type earphones which have their own little charging case…

What To Expect From Vaptio AirGo Kit…

There are 3 main components to be found in the kit.

airgo components

  • The AirGo mod – this is the part you hold in your hand which connects to the pod for vaping
  • AirGo pod – this contains the heating element and holds your e-liquid
  • AirGo box – this is a carry case which holds the mod, a spare pod and charges the mod when it is installed in the case.

The mod has an internal 80mAh battery which seems way too small but remember this is recharged on the go from the box it is stored in, and Vaptio says the maximum output is 11W.

airgo device advert

You connect the mod to the removable pod. The pod is refillable via the side fill port with up to 1.5ml of your own e-liquid plus you can carry an extra pod in the box.

Inside the pod is a 1ohm coil which is not replaceable – when the coil fails you discard the pod and replace with a new one.

The box is designed to fit in the pocket and provide somewhere safe to store the pod and mod plus with an internal 700mAh battery the box also charges up the mod in around 5 minutes when it is installed into the box.

Apparently the box will charge the mod up to 7 times on a full battery charge.

airgo battery

You recharge the box only via the USB Type C port on the base.

On the front of the box are two sets of LED indicators, the top round indicator displays when the mod is installed in the box and changes colour according to the charge remaining in the pod.

Below that are 3 LED lights which indicate the charge remaining in the actual box.

There are 3 colours to choose from: White, Grey and Aurora Blue.

airgo colours

As usual I will report back honestly on my findings of the kit I have in my hand.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Vaptio AirGo Kit in both the white and grey colour.

The packaging was really stylish I have to say and added to the glamour of the kit.

airgo packaging

You can see straight away how this kit is designed to look like the funky wireless earphone pod sets from companies such as Apple and Samsung.

The instruction manual is more of a leaflet and only 3 pages per language, but to be fair it was pretty simple to use and covered everything you needed to get set up.

Vaptio AirGo Mod

This is so tiny!

airgo mod in hand

In the white box kit the mod was silver and in the grey box kit the mod was dark grey.

On the front of the mod is the Vaptio logo and below that is a set of tiny LED lights in a line which illuminate when vaping.

I have been trying to watch them (they only stay on briefly when you inhale) and these do not appear to change at all according to battery power remaining.

airgo mod front rear

The base of the mod houses the charging connection – 3 small contacts which mate up with the pointy springy posts in the box for charging.

Inside the pod port are the electrical contacts for the pod connection.

airgo mod size

The pod is held in magnetically and fits well, it is not difficult to pull out but equally seems to be held in place robustly and no wobble from the pod.

Vaptio AirGo Pod

This is a fixed coil design so the only thing you have to do is fill the pod and install it in the mod.

The base of the pod has 2 large contacts which connect with the mod contacts and the pod can be installed either way around.

airgo pod views

It has a nice feeling to the mouthpiece and is clear enough to see your e-liquid level when held up to the light.

A side fill port is provided – the cover plug is a bit small and fiddly as you will need finger nails to prise the port cover up to access the port.

I did notice some leaks – mainly when left in the charging box. Not from the base of the pod as you would expect but from the mouthpiece – see the photo below…

airgo leaking

Vaptio also kindly sent me a pack of 3 spare pods.

airgo spare pods

Vaptio AirGo Box

This is the real stunning part of the kit for me.

airgo box view

The box is very stylish in the white and grey colours.

Lifting the lid you are greeted with a lovely shiny platform which surrounds the areas where the pod and mod are inserted.

airgo box platform

The lid has a strong catch and is held closed magnetically.

If the lid is almost closed the magnet will snap it shut for you.

On the front of the box are the indicator lights and the “Vaptio” text.

airgo box indicators

On the white version the box indicator LEDs are quite pale in daylight – but you can still just about see them.

The photo below was indoors – I did try to take a photo outside in the sun but you couldn’t see the lights at all.

white box led

The USB Type C port is located on the base of the pod and this worked fine with no issues at all.

box mod pod

With the pod and mod inserted there is a slight rattle when you shake the box.

Vaptio AirGo Kit Quick Start Guide

The kit arrives with the mod and pods installed in the box.

kit full set

One pod is attached to the mod – but you will need to remove the pod for filling before use.

isolation

Also on the base of the pod is an isolation sticker to prevent you accidentally firing the device before filling which is great and will prevent you killing one of your new pods hopefully.

Vaptio Airgo Basic Operation

This is pretty simple stuff really.

The mod is operated by inhaling on the mouthpiece and it should fire automatically.

The indicator on the pod only lights up when firing or when the battery is flat.

You will need to pop the mod into the charging box to see what colour the mod LED indicator is for any other indication of battery capacity.

  • Red light = 10% battery capacity or less remaining
  • Green light = more than 10% battery capacity remaining.

The box has 3 LED indicators on the front (you won’t see them unless they light up!) to display the battery capacity remaining in the box

  • 3 lights = highest level
  • 2 lights = medium level
  • 1 light = low

Vaptio Airgo Fault Conditions

When the mod battery needs charging the lights on the mod will flash and the device will not fire – so this is the time to install it in the box for charging.

The instruction leaflet says the device has the following protections…

  • Low voltage protection – i.e. when the battery capacity is below that required the device will not fire.
  • Over vaping protection – usually this is a limit of how long the device will fire – I have managed to inhale for 6 seconds and this hasn’t cut out – so not sure how long the specified time is.
  • Short circuit protection
  • Over charging protection

I have not seen any mention of how this does indicate a fault or experienced any other fault conditions.

How To Charge The Vaptio Airgo Box Battery

  • Install the supplied USB cable into the port on the base of the battery box
  • Install the other end of the USB cable into a suitable outlet.
  • Watch the LED indicators on the front of the box – there are 3 indicators – they will light up according to how much charge is in battery. When fully charged these will go out completely.

 box charging

I charged mine using a 2A (Max) charging adaptor (I have no idea what the charge rate of the kit is) – it took 2 hours (give or take a couple of minutes) to fully charge.

How To Charge the Vaptio Airgo Mod Battery

The mod is charged by inserting it into the box, the coloured LED will light up when charging.

It will pulse red for a while then will turn green when charged.

charging

If the LED does not illuminate press the mod into the box slightly and it should kick in.

How To Remove the Vaptio AirGo Pod

The pod simply pulls out of the mod body, and a magnetic connection holds the pod in place.

A new pod can be pushed into the mod either way around.

How To Fill The AirGo Pod

  • Remove the pod from the mod.
  • Turn the pod on its side with the fill port at the top.
  • Using a finger nail (if you have them) lift up the fill port plug (arrowed).fill port
  • Add e-liquid through the fill port and observe the level through the side of the pod.filling
  • Replace the fill port plug.
  • If using a new pod – leave this for 10-15 mins before vaping to make sure the e-liquid has been fully absorbed by the coil.

How Does the Vaptio AirGo Kit Perform?

As this is a MTL (Mouth to Lung) kit – I used a higher nicotine strength e-liquid. I used my usual CrazySaltzzz Bubblegum – which has 20mg Nicotine strength salts and 50/50 PG/VG.

Vaptio Airgo Mod and Pod

I really feel like I am doing this kit a slight disservice.

To explain – I am also reviewing another pod kit from a different company – and the flavour on that has blown me away. So in comparison the little Vaptio AirGo setup doesn’t hit the spot to be honest.

The draw activation is quick to fire and the MTL airflow to me seems spot on. This has quite a tight airflow which is why I think the firing speed is so accurate.

Flavour wise this is decent, I can taste the flavour but it is not buzzing like other pod devices I love.

Again the throat hit is good too – I did try to do a huge inhale to test the firing cut off time and after 6 seconds I ended up coughing so there is a hit there.

This does perform – not by any means badly – but is slightly below par to other pod kits I am using with the same e-liquid.

I have to say this is super economical on e-liquid – I kept checking at the points I thought this would need refilling and it was still almost full!

So far I have only filled this twice and got through about 8 mod charges!

One thing I did find with repeated vapes and just after charging the mod can get pretty warm.

Vaptio Airgo Box Operation

The box operation has been solid, you flip the lid up and the LED indicators come on to tell you at a glance the status of the box and mod battery.

Again the indicator lights – especially on the white version are pale. Indoors you can see them – but outdoors in the sun you will struggle. However you can just apply shade with your hand and the lights are visible.

The box is pretty robust and I have knocked it over several times, the lid catch is still strong and holds the box shut well.

Vaptio Airgo Battery Life

There are two battery life aspects to consider here – the mod and the box.

On average the pod lasted me 20-30 puffs and on some occasions I could wind the battery down in 15-20 mins. However the mod battery was always charged up from the box within 10 minutes so not long to wait.

I will add I am a heavy vaper – so this may be suitable for those who only have a few bursts of vaping every few hours.

Also bear in mind I have quite long inhales when vaping (only a year off the ciggies so I hammer my vapes) so if you inhale for less time your puff count might be higher.

The box battery gave me 10 pod charges. I did do the first pod charge when the box was on charge and I didn’t count this in my total. The final charge the box indicator was flashing and the mod indicator didn’t light up for long.

Pros

  • Stylish and easy to carry
  • Well-made components
  • Economical on e-liquid use
  • Robust construction
  • Has a cute and novelty factor which impresses people you show this to
  • Easy to use – ideal for new starters
  • Perfectly functional – no faults other than slight leaks
  • Mod is quick to charge

Cons

  • Mod feels slightly under-powered
  • No battery capacity indicator on actual mod
  • Had some slight leaks
  • The fill port needs nails to lift up
  • Although the size of kit is handy – I found myself rarely using it as I needed to take the box out with me too.

Final Review Verdict

All in all a decent performer.

This is a super cute kit and looks very futuristic. Everyone I have shown it to expected it to be the air pod earphones, and were pretty surprised that it was a vape kit.

Performance wise, this isn’t up there with the best, but neither could it be described as awful.

The flavour and throat hit are a bit muted but when you see the size of the mod itself it’s not a surprise really. That tiny battery isn’t going to kick out high power for long.

I found myself using this only at home, where I could sit and wait for the mod to charge as it does catch you out a lot.

A lack of battery capacity indicator on the mod is annoying, you can be vaping away and suddenly the little LEDs on the mod flash and that’s it. No warning. I would find this annoying if I was driving or trying to get a quick sneaky vape in in a short time.

Also this kit is pretty expensive, not to say the quality is lacking at all – it is super well made – but there are way better performing kits for much less cost in my opinion.

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus is one of the latest kits brought to us by a vape company that really seems to churn out devices!

Offering a wattage ranging from 5W to 35W and supplied with two different coils, again we have an option of both MTL and DTL vaping with this little device.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus handcheck

Vaptio is based out of Seattle in the United States.

The Vaptio Super Cape, Vaptio Tyro kit and the popular Vaptio Cosmo Kit to name just a few.  Also the Vaptio Palo kit which I had a bit of a love hate relationship with.

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus is readily available online, as yet I have not seen it in brick and mortar stores, but their presence is growing in shops so I’m sure it will appear somewhere.

What Can We Expect From The Vaptio Cosmo Plus?

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus is a pocket sized starter kit, the mod has a built in battery and the tank has a 2ml capacity.

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus is available in 6 colour designs.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Colour Options

Fully adjustable airflow on the tank means you can get the pull as restrictive as you prefer.

The airflow can be fully opened for DTL vaping, quite restrictive but we will get into this later on in the review.

Technically this is a mod and tank kit, although with a 18.5 diameter base for the tank, there is not many other tanks that will fit without serious overhang.

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus was sent to me for the purposes of this review, I will give you my honest opinion, and I have been testing this product for a couple of weeks.

Design and Build Quality

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus is a well built little device that will fit in your pocket.

It is solid, no rattles or noises coming from it no matter how much I shake the little thing.

The fire button is well positioned, flush with the rest of the mod, quite sleek actually.

The menu buttons though, OK, this is going to be a little bit of a rant, regular readers of my reviews will be getting used to this though.

Every mod I have that has an up and down button are the same, the up on the right, down on the left…not with this, it is the opposite!

Vaptio Cosmo Plus buttons and screen

I lost count how many times I went to put the wattage up or down and instinctively went to the necessary button and it ended up going the wrong way!!!

The LCD screen although tiny is quite clear and easy to read.

The USB charge port is located below the screen and yes you can use it while it is charging.

The tank is sized perfectly for the mod, naturally, with top filling and a 510 drip tip.  The drip tip supplied is actually quite comfortable for me, but if you don’t like it, go ahead and fit your favourite on it.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus tank seperated

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Fire Button | Airflow

The fire button is well positioned on the Vaptio Cosmo Plus mod.  It is molded into the top of the mod so you would be forgiven for asking where it is.

Five clicks switched the mod on, five off.

3 clicks of the fire button will take you to the menu system.

From here you can select:

  • Variable Wattage
  • Variable Voltage
  • Bypass
  • settings
  • Sleep time
  • Vape time

A very simple and easy to use menu.

The Vape Time option can be used to change your fire time between 5 to 10 seconds.

The Sleep time lets you choose between 5 seconds to 120 seconds for the mod to go into standby – 5 seconds seems very short to me, but hey, each to their own.

Holding down the up and down buttons will lock those buttons, it can still be fired at this point, you just can’t adjust the wattage/voltage.  Holding the buttons again will unlock it.

The wattage and voltage increments in 0.1s.

The airflow from the tank is fully adjustable, for MTL vaping you can get that airflow as tight as you like.  There are two air-holes on the tank, when restricting it for MTL vaping, only one of these air-holes opens.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus 1st airflow wide open

The second air-hole opens up when you fully open the airflow for DTL vaping.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus 2nd airflow wide open

Adjusting the airflow is easy, just grip by the glass and turn.  Just make sure you grip the glass and not the top cap, it will come off.

We will get into the quality of the vape later on.

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus Coils

The Vaptio Cosmo Plus comes with two coils.

Now for the hardcore out there you will look at the pic below and think they look familiar.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Coils

Yep, they are the exact same as the Aspire BVC coils and I am pleased to say that the BVC coils will work in the Vaptio Cosmo Plus – a wee bit more on that in a bit.

Onto the coils supplied.

Vaptio are following a formula that has worked for Aspire for a number of years, these coils are workhorses, why reinvent the wheel.

Well, Vaptio did a bit, thankfully.

The C4 coil 0.7ohm is mesh and this does mean better flavour for your vape.

The last Vaptio product I reviewed was the Palo kit, again it was aimed at MTL and DTL vaping although the flavour from the DTL coil was really muted.

It was not a mesh coil, although I did see some reviews after that said it was, believe me it was not, in fact that review showed the internals of that coil, check it out here.

I’m not big headed enough to say that I helped Vaptio in this decision (The diabetic who???), I am saying I am really pleased to see a mesh coil full stop.

The Mesh coil is pre-installed in the Cosmo tank, please remember to prime that coil before use or at the very least let it sit for 10 minutes after that initial fill up.

Read more: Why it’s important to prime you coils.

We will go into filling the tank and changing the coils in short bit.

Coil life is excellent, both coils got a solid week of use and neither showed a drop in performance and are still going strong.

Back to the possible coil options.

Below you will see 3 different coils, the Vaptio coil, the Aspire BVC coil and the Aspire Nautilus coil – they look pretty similar don’t they?

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Coil with BVC and Nautilus Coils

Well, good and bad news here, the BVC coils work perfectly, the Nautilus coils do not, you will get a short warning when you attempt to use them and the mod won’t fire.

It may be down to the ohm of the coil, this one was a 0.4ohm coil and the spec does give the range between 0.7ohm to 1.6ohm, whereas the BVC coil was a 1.8ohm and worked perfectly.

How Does The Vaptio Cosmo Plus Perform?

Let’s move straight to changing the coils and filling the tank.

How To Change The Vaptio Cosmo Plus Coil

Changing the coil can be a little clumsy.  The coil comes out from the top of the tank and when you go to unscrew the top of the tank off, the top cap can come off, they both screw the same way.

Now the way that Vaptio say to do it seemed impossible, they state to unscrew the base of the tank from the top and glass, no matter what way I held it, the top came off from the base and glass.

So, here is how I did it:

  •  Unscrew top from glass, remember to push down while turning so the top cap does not come off in your hand.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus unscrewing top cap with coil

  • Pull out old coil

Vaptio Cosmo Plus pulling out old coil

  • Push in new coil after priming

Vaptio Cosmo Plus inserting new coil

  • Screw top and coil back into base and glass

Vaptio Cosmo Plus inserting coil to base

It is an easy enough process, just make sure that tank is empty, you don’t want juicy hands or clothes.

How to Fill the Vaptio Cosmo Plus

  • twist top cap a quarter turn

Vaptio Cosmo Plus unscrew top cap

  • insert juice into either kidney shaped hole

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Filling

  • reverse quarter turn the top cap to place on

Very very easy refill, just make sure and put the juice into one of the kidney bean shaped holes and not the round one in the center.  The round hole goes straight to the coil and you will flood it.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Flavour and Vapour Production

Now to the important part.  What is the vape like?

We will split it into MTL and DTL for ease.

From my experience these two in one devices tend to be more successful in one than both.

I really hope I get proved wrong at some point because to me the idea is great for new vapers to be able to experiment with DTL vaping without going to the expense of buying separate tanks, coils and mods.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus MTL Flavour and Vapour

This is where the Vaptio Cosmo Plus shines through.

I have used my usual juices to test this, Pure Mist 50/50, Vampire Vape Pinkman nic salt 60/40 and Excision Harambe 70/30.

I would normally also use Riot Squads Bubblegum here but I only flippin’ ran out 🙁 Love that juice!)

I used the C1 1.6ohm coil for this with a single airflow hole open, this is bang on the restriction I like for MTL vaping.

C1 coil

All juice flavour was pretty much spot on, a pretty solid 8 out of 10 for all of them.  Not absolutely mind blowing but not bad or average either.

The coil had absolutely no issues with the 70/30 mix of juice, although I don’t think I would be comfortable going any higher than that.

Quite a nice throat hit when using the Nic Salt e-liquid.

Vapour production was just what you would expect from a solid little MTL vape.  No hot boxing but you will get yourself a few vape O’s out of it.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus DTL Flavour and Vapour

This is where I was concerned, I always seem to get let down with DTL vaping with these devices.

Using the C4 0.7ohm mesh coil with airflow wide open and running at 35 Watts, I tried a few juices, Drip Hacks Smashberry, Vaponaires Chestnut Cake and Titanic Vapours Custurd Lemon Curd.

C4 coil

Flavour performance across the board was similar yet again.  Now are you sitting down, cause if you read my Palo review you would see I gave a 2 out of 10 for DTL flavour, not this time.

I am giving the flavour here a 7 out of ten and this is only let down by the quite restrictive airflow.  If you could get a little more air in there I reckon this could be a real banger.

Believe me, I was shocked by the flavour that came from this, definitely being helped by the mesh coil without doubt!

The vapour production is not so great though, again, a bit more air I think would help.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Coil Life

Coil life is first class, as I said before, both coils got a solid week of hard going and there was no drop in performance.

Airflow | Draw

For MTL this is spot on, you will be able to get this as restrictive or airy as you prefer.

vape tank

For DTL vaping it is restrictive but not overly.  When the airflow is wide open, the second air-hole only appears to open 3 quarters of the way, that is a bit irritating as that last quarter could have made the difference of a couple of points in flavour and vapour production.

2nd airflow wide open

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Juice Consumption

Juice consumption is excellent, especially for the DTL vape, and I didn’t find myself refilling it every 5 minutes.

A full 2ml tank would last several 10 – 15 minute vape breaks in work before requiring a refill.

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Vapour Production

The vapour production for a MTL vape is spot on, just what you would expect.

DTL vapour production is about average for this class of device, blowing O’s will be OK but don’t be trying to create yourself some jellyfish!

Vaptio Cosmo Plus Battery Life

Battery life is subjective to how you are using this.

I was using the C1 coil for MTL at 11 watts, and was getting the best part of a day from the battery with a little top up in the late evening.

With DTL vaping running at 35 Watts, you will get the best part of the working day from it, I would have to give it a top up in the car on the drive home and maybe a bit more in the evening.

charging

If you find it going low, you can still use it whilst it is charging.

Pros

  • Easy coil replacement
  • Simple juice filling
  • Excellent coil life
  • Choice of BVC coil
  • Lightweight and compact

Cons

  • Bit more air for DTL needed
  • The menu buttons – subjective annoyance

Final Review Verdict

So, what do I think of the Vaptio Cosmo Plus?

I’ll be honest, my expectations were not very high when this came through the post.  I thought, “oh boy, here we go again, another dual vape device that thinks it can do everything”.

Well, ya know what, this is a huge step in the right direction, by no means is it there yet, but it is a big step.

It always seems to come down to the airflow for me with these – Vaptio, talk to me, I got ideas!

This little device is up against some pretty stiff competition from SMOK and Vapefly to name a couple and I am honestly trying to find reasons why I would pick this up over the competition – price point maybe?

I mentioned before about the menu buttons, this really bugged the life out of me, why? I don’t know, it was a change from the norm.  Now change is not a bad thing but why fix what is not broken.  I’m being pedantic, I know.

The flavour is where you would expect it to be for MTL, the flavour from the DTL was above where I expected it to be.

This is one device that will not sit on my shelf, it will go to someone that wants to start vaping.

Would I recommend the Vaptio Cosmo Plus to anyone trying to get off the stinkies, honestly?

For someone that want to get off those stinky sticks this would be a device I would recommend.

Look, I may have said this before, but a new vaper is not going to go straight to direct to lung vaping and doing vape tricks on YouTube.

They want something to get the nic into themselves and something that’s going to taste good as well.

Maybe down the line they may want to try DTL vaping, well, this gives you an idea of what that would be like, just an idea though.

Would I recommend the Vaptio Cosmo Plus to someone that already vapes?

Simply put, no.

There are just better options out there for the veteran vaper. If you want a stealth DTL setup, this is not it.

I feel this is purely aimed at new vapers and really that is not a bad thing.

The Vaptio Palo is one of the latest pen kits from the extremely popular vape company.

It offers the option of either MTL vaping or DTL vaping with a max output of 23 watts and a minimum 8 watts depending on which coil you are using.

Vaptio Palo sitting in tree

Vaptio is based out of Seattle in the United States.

They have been in the game from 2014 and have a number of AIO, tanks and mods in the repertoire.

The Vaptio Super Cape, Vaptio Tyro kit and the popular Vaptio Cosmo Kit to name just a few.

You can come across some of their kit in some brick and mortar stores but you will definitely find a lot of Vaptio gear in online stores.

What Can We Expect From The Vaptio Palo?

The Vaptio Palo is an All In One pocket sized pen device with a 2ml capacity.

Adjustable airflow meaning you can make the vape as restrictive as you like.

The airflow opens wider for a Direct To Lung vape with the 0.6ohm coil, or as Vaptio themselves describe it, a Shallow DTL vape.

Changing the coil and opening or closing over the airflow should give you a totally different vaping experience, does it work though?

I’ll be testing both MTL and DTL with this device.

Read more: Mouth To Lung (MTL) VS Direct To Lung (DTL) Vaping: What’s The Difference?

The Vaptio Palo is available in 6 different colour options and I have to say, faded colour style is quite eye catching.

Not a fan of it then you have the solid black or silver option.

The Vaptio Palo has a top airflow design and is stating to be leak-proof, I’ll be testing that.

So, lets get this fella juiced up and find out how the it performs.

The Vaptio Palo was sent to me for the purposes of this review, I will give you my honest opinion, I have been testing this product for a couple of weeks.

In The Box

  • 1 x PALO
  • 1 x PALO A1 Coil 0.6ohm
  • 1 x PALO A2 Coil 1.2ohm
  • 1 x Glass Tube
  • 1 x User Manual
  • 1 x USB Cable

  • Bypass output mode
  • 2ml Tank Capacity
  • Internal 1500mAh Battery
  • Output wattage: 8 – 23W

Design and Build Quality

The Vaptio Palo is a well built Pen style mod.

It is pocket size, maybe not shirt pocket but definitely any other pocket.

No rattles at all even with a good long shake.

The fire button is comfortable and gives a satisfying click when pressed.

The top airflow, as Vaptio claims, is leak-proof.

Vaptio Palo in hand

Now I have tried, leaving the device on its side, upside down and pretty much every angle and no leaks.

The glass tube clearly show your juice level.

The top cap removes easily and smoothly for filling.

Drip tip is 510 with an O ring so you can easily get your favourite drip tip on it.

The USB charge port can be found on the opposite side of the power button, while charging an LED light goes on while charging.

Fire Button | Airflow

The fire button is well positioned on the Vaptio Palo, it has a LED light surrounding the button, slightly raised making it easier to locate without looking.

Switching the device on and off is simply 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off.

A red light will flash around the button on both occasions.

The airflow is completely adjustable, air-vents are located just below the top cap on both sides.

Opening one vent slightly opens the other vent the same amount.

Adjusting the airflow is simple, rotating the vent one round either way.

This has a very smooth action and doesn’t stick whatsoever.

The quality of the vape with the airflow for both MTL and DTL we will get into later.

The Vaptio Palo Coils

The Vaptio Palo comes supplied with two coils.

Neither coil is preinstalled so do not rush in there and fill with juice.

It is worth noting that each coil will run at a different wattage.

  • The Palo A1 coil will run between 18w – 23w.
  • The Palo A2 coil will run between 8w – 12w.

The wattage will depend on the battery itself; you should be getting the higher end of those numbers with a fully charged battery.

The wattage will drop as the battery strength goes down.

Vaptio Palo Coils

So let’s start off with putting the first coil into the Vaptio Palo kit.

This is simple, as the kit does not have a coil preinstalled, the top cap will literally pop off the glass tube.

Prime the coil, and screw it into the top cap.

Read more: Why it’s important to prime you coils.

Once secured, then screw the top cap with coil into the glass tube.

The threads from the coil keep the top cap and Palo kit attached together.

Now you are ready to put your juice in.

Push down on the top cap and twist the cap a quarter turn and the top cap will pop off.

You will see two fill holes on either side, do not put you juice down the central hole as then will go straight into the coil and you do not want to deal with that flooding issue.

Place the top cap on top, press down and do an opposite quarter turn, leave it now for about 5 minutes and you are ready to vape.

The coils themselves have survived the two week testing without any drop in their performance.

As always I’m not using overly sweet juice, a sweeter juice will have an impact on the life of the coil.

I received two Vaptio Palo Kits for the purpose of the review, so one was used purely for MTL and the other DTL.

It is worth noting that neither coil is mesh, the A1 coil has nichrome wire, the A2 stainless steel.

A1 coil broken down

How Does The Vaptio Palo Perform?

Let’s get straight into changing the coils and filling the tank before we get into the performance.

How To Change The Vaptio Palo Kit coil

We have already gone through placing the first coil earlier, the process of changing the coil couldn’t be simpler:

Vaptio Palo inserting coil into top

  • Unscrew the top holding onto the Top Airflow
  • Unscrew old coil
  • Screw in the replacement coil
  • Place a drop of juice on each cotton hole
  • Screw assembly back in gripping onto the top airflow

Vaptio Palo inserting coil into mod

That’s it, quite simple to change, I would recommend doing this with an empty tank though.

How to fill the Vaptio Palo Kit

It is very simple:

  • Push down slightly on the top cap and give it a quarter turn
  • Using one of the kidney shaped fill holes and fill with your preferred juice
  • Place the top cap back on, push down slightly and give a reverse quarter turn
  • Readjust the air vent to your preference.

Vaptio Palo filling with juice

That’s you ready to go

Flavour and Vapour Production

I’m going to split this into a MTL section and DTL section, the Vaptio Palo Kit is designed as both, so it seems only right to separate the two modes.

Vapto Palo with top cap off

MTL Flavour and Vapour

So I have used the same juices in all MTL reviews to keep the scoring consistent.

The juices used where Pure Mist BL 50/50,  Vampire Vape Pinkman 60/40 and Excision Harambe 70/30.

All juice was tested on my preferred airflow setting, one air-hole on either side of the air vents.

This was all using the PALO A2 1.2ohm coil.

Vapour production was pretty much what you would expect from a mouth to lung vape.

With the Pure mist, a 50/50 mix which contains standard nicotine, the flavour was a bit muted, I could pick up the tobacco but only just and there was no throat hit at all, 6 out of 10.

The Vampire Vape Pinkman, a 60/40 mix which is a nic salt juice, a strong flavoured juice and it definitely came through on the Vaptio Palo, mild throat hit, a definite improvement over the previous juice. 8 out of 10.

The flavour from the Excision Harambe, this is a 70/30 mix of juice.

The coil wicked very well with this juice, zero dry hits with chaining it, flavour was good.

No throat hit, but that is mostly down to it only having a 3mg nic level. 9 out of 10.

As with any MTL device, don’t expect to hot box a room out. The vapour production for the Vaptio Palo Kit MTL mode is good compared to most.

Read more: VG VS PG In E Liquid: All You Need To Know

DTL Flavour and Vapour

This is where I start to get a little negative.

I do want to note that I do like a restrictive DTL vape, although I found the Vaptio Palo kit too restrictive even with the air vents completely open.

Using the PALO A1 0.6ohm coil, it seemed like I was inhaling for a good 8 to 10 seconds, which felt like hard work due to the restriction, for little results.

I used a number of juices, Drip Hacks Smashberry, Vaponaire’s Chestnut Cake, Titanic Vapours Custard Lemon Curd.

All with pretty much the same result, little to no flavour and vapour production comparable to a excellent MTL device.

All the juice above have strong distinct flavours that were all struggling to come through. 2 out of 10.

Vaptio Palo Coil Life

After two weeks of use on both Vaptio Palo Kits, the coils are still going well, no signs of degradation in the coil life.

Airflow | Draw

The Vaptio Palo Kit has an adjustable airflow, for MTL you will have no problem finding the setting you like.

air holes fully open

For DTL, Vaptio do advertise this as a Shallow DTL vape.

Air Holes half open

For me, it feels more like an airy MTL vape.

Juice Consumption

Juice consumption is excellent in both settings, it sips away on the juice like its saving water crossing the desert.

Vapour Production

Again, for the MTL coil, its OK, nothing mind blowing and you won’t be doing any jellyfish tricks with it.

The DTL, even though it is shallow, for me the vapour production is poor.

Battery Life

The 1500mAh battery on a full charge will last you the day, charging fully in a couple of hours.

The Vaptio Palo Kit runs at a maximum 23watts, is not going to test the battery too much.

Charging the Vaptio Palo Kit is simple, plug in the USB cable in the side of the Palo mod and away it goes, the light around the power button will flash white while it is charging and switch to a solid white light when fully charged.

Vaptio Palo charging

You can vape while it is charging.

It may fall over while charging but don’t worry, I have left this on its side with juice in it for a couple of hours and zero signs of leaking.

Pros

  • Excellent Colour Designs
  • Easy to use
  • Fits in any pocket
  • Excellent Battery Life
  • Leakproof
  • 510 Drip tip

Cons

  • Poor DTL performance

Final Review Verdict

I struggled a bit with this, as a MTL device, the Vatio Palo Kit is actually not that bad but as a DTL device, it really doesn’t perform, even with a fresh battery charge.

I began to wonder was 23watts really enough for a good direct lung vape and would a mesh coil have improved the flavour?

Lets hope that mesh coil option comes so we can find out.

The device itself looks good, feels good in the hand, it’s a pen mod, there are lots of them out there, one of the things that sets them all apart is the coil.

More and more are starting to be released with mesh coils, which, lets face it, mostly deliver on flavour.

Would I recommend the Vaptio Palo Kit to anyone trying to get off the stinkies, honestly?

Probably, although only as a MTL device.

Would I recommend this to someone that already vapes?

Probably not…

I wrestled with this for quite a bit, the scoring for this is going to drop because of my personal experience with the DTL side of it.

It would definitely have been up there in the rankings if it was pushed as purely MTL.

Have you used the Vaptio Palo kit?

Have any questions?

The Vaptio IronClad FrogMan C Kit is on the chopping block today, brought to you by what may well be the most affordable vape brand on the market.

Vaptio, a Seattle based vape brand with designers in the UK and the US, has a staggering number of products on the market, many of which are under $20 to purchase. The question is, is vape gear this cheap worth having?

Past releases include the Wallcrawler Kit, the Tyro vape pen kit and the N1 Pro 240W Kit, which featured an older and vastly different version of the Frogman Tank. I was interested to try out a newer version of the Frogman since, back in the day, I quite enjoyed the original.

The Ironclad Frogman C kit is a fixed output, 50W mod with a built-in 2600 mAh battery and LED indicators. The Frogman C has a whopping 6ml capacity (non TPD countries) and is equipped with mesh coils, promising to beat the older versions in flavour.

This Kit forms part of Vaptio’s Heros range and, with a name like IronClad, I was expecting a solid, hardy little mod…my expectations weren’t met.

This kit was sent to us for the purposes of review. As always my thoughts are my own.

Design and Build Quality

IronClad Mod

On opening up the neat, white Vaptio box, I’m greeted by a small, shiny mod: two-tone, with a wrap around tinted plastic inlay to contrast against its blue sheen.Vaptio ironclad kit hand

The black plastic feature looks like an extension of what must be a screen cover under the big, wrap around fire button at the top of the control side, which wraps around and takes up most of either larger side panel, in a shape akin to a Nike tick.

I soon discover that this is not a screen cover, there is no screen, so the choice of this very cheap looking material baffles me…it’s an absolute fingerprint magnet and, in my opinion, looks atrocious.

The top of either side has an odd, triangular inlay, these are the LED indicators to inform you of battery life, in a range of colours, to light up when you fire.

The fire button is huge and when you depress and then release it, it resonates with a sound that’s like a click but has a sort of metallic ring to it.

The top and bottom edge of the control side are cut off, in such a way that the mod can actually stand flat ,or stand on the bottom cut off edge, even with the tank loaded.

This is one very cool feature, well balanced and something I would love to see on other vape mods, however I am not sure it’s intentional, as that cut off surface is where the six, elongated battery ventilation holes are located. Nonetheless, I enjoyed standing this mod at a tilt!

The control side has a micro-USB port at the bottom, with no less than two Vaptio brands, one on the colour section at the bottom and one on the black section. Why there are two brand stamps on one side of the mod, I cannot tell you.

The Top of the mod has a sort of rounded triangle seating, it’s just an etched-in frame though, with no actual stainless steel seating.

510 Connection / Threading

There is a deep 510 connection in the middle of the framed area (which is positioned off to the side, away from the cut off edge), with little to no spring to it.

Unscrewing or tightening the tank will provide you with an unpleasant grating sensation, enjoy.

Sealed 510 To Prevent Leaks Into Mod

It’s good to see the 510 connection is sealed, as the N1 Pro which I had from this brand actually stopped working after a few months on the shelf, a little liquid obviously seeped through the unsealed connection into the mod, corroding the circuitry inside and rendering the mod useless.

When the tank is tightened into the mod, there is a 1/3 mm space underneath, so I can see right under the tank. This gives the impression that the mod and tank don’t belong together, as they don’t seem to fit. It looks terrible and, I’m sorry to say, it looks cheap.

In fact, whatever this mod is made of, it has the look and feel of plastic, the entire thing collects fingerprints and the paint scratches and chips off with wear.

Also, knowing that this kit is actually one of the pricier examples from Vaptio, I expected more. Not to mention the misleading name, this mod is anything but IronClad.

I certainly hope that the mod’s performance and the tank will make up for the cheap feel of this mod and the glaring build issues I see here.

LED Indicators

The LED indicators at either side of the mod light up on start up, shut-down and fire.

The following lights tell you your remaining battery level:

  • Blue when battery level is between 70 and 100%
  • Green between 30 and 60%
  • Red between 1 and 29 %.

vaptio ironclad led indicators

Built in Battery

The Vaptio IronClad features a 2600mAh on board battery and constant output of 50W. Meaning it will fire at 50W all of the time while the battery allows.

Frogman C Tank

The Frogman C tank is pretty straight forward, as sub-ohm tanks go. It’s tall base features an adjustable, cyclops style airflow, with a 1cm x 2mm slot either side.

My Blue kit came with a black coloured tank, the airflow ring is black in colour, with a chrome ribbon above the airflow ring and a beefy o-ring visible through the bulb glass above that.

The tank has a very impressive 6ml capacity and I can see four nice, big juice windows on the loaded mesh coil head through the glass.

Above the tank I see another thick o-ring, another chrome ribbon and then the Vaptio branded black top cap above that, with a nice, removable 810 drip tip which has a strange female connection, with a male connection on the tank side, so you can’t interchange with any other drip tip. Hmmmf.

Top Fill

The top cap screws off to reveal two big fill ports, without that near impenetrable silicon gasket feature which made previous Vaptio tanks so hard to fill.

How Does The Vaptio IronClad FrogMan C Kit Perform?

I can’t help it, I’m feeling very uninspired. I usually love writing reviews, even if just for one standout feature on a product that’s otherwise very standard but, for me, writing about this kit is just a bloody drag.

This whole setup is just so deflating.

The IronClad Mod

It all starts with the fact that I have to click the fire button 6 times or more, most of the time, in order to power up or down. Sometimes it works with 5 clicks, but only sometimes.

I’ve spent more than 30 seconds once, trying to switch off this mod.

Then there’s the issue of the 510 connection, which is very tight, with bad threading and a gap visible between mod and tank, no matter what tank you use.

There were one or two tanks I fitted which wouldn’t work on this mod.

Also, the constant 50W output is this mod’s max output and fitting the device with a tank, equipped with coils in the same range, that I’d been vaping at 50W on another mod, I was met with a flaccid, low powered hit that came nowhere close to the hit I’d been enjoying on a mod that fires at a true 50W.

This mod is not very versatile and, while I was hoping performance would uplift the cheap exterior, it doesn’t.

One thing the mod has going for it is ergonomics, it is a very nice shape, just a pity the finish doesn’t express a little more quality.

The fire time is pretty fast on this mod, surprisingly, but only with the included tank and coils

This mod is going into the shelf, where it will probably just gather dust, I wouldn’t bother giving it as a gift.

The Tank

As for the Frogman C…

I have serious flavour issues with this tank and I am not sure whether components of the tank itself are adding to this or whether it is purely the coil heads creating a very unpleasant taste sensation.

Great airflow on the tank, smooth and highly adjustable.

There is minimal seeping of juice down through the airflow when you store it, but that’s it.

Once again, very incompatible, why make the drip tip non-replaceable?

The Frogman C, by the way, sits flush on other mods. I wouldn’t give this as a gift either.

Frogman Coil M1 – 0.2Ohm Preinstalled mesh Coil

The 0.2 Ohm preinstalled mesh coil, which fires at the predetermined constant output of this mod, which is somewhere around 50W, delivers a massive vapour cloud, that is one thing it really has going for it. That’s also why it drinks juice like a trooper.

However, even after two weeks of use, I get a very unpleasant taste and aftertaste underpinning any flavour I put in this tank.

Even though the flavour comes through strongly, there is a nasty hint of something in the background that just ruins the experience.

Something they are using in then construction of this coil (or even this tank) is leaving a taste in my mouth and I don’t know what exactly it is, but its metallic and plastic all at once, it tastes unhealthy, chemical and unpleasant.

Frogman Coil T1 – 0.2Ohm Strip Coil

The 0.2 Ohm strip coil is a coil is similar to the M1 in terms of the performance it gave.

I find vapour production almost the same on this coil, but maybe a little less, to my mind. Flavour definitely also comes through but I have the same nasty chemical taste issues with this coil, which just puts me right off.

It’s such a huge pity for Vaptio, since vapour and flavour are both so strong here. The addition of that nasty element to the flavour is really not good, as it means that something in the materials they are using is giving off a residue and this is cause for concern. Possibly machine oil residue?

Battery Life

The 2600 mAh built-in battery provides a decent battery life of about 6-7 hours, if you are vaping steadily, every few minutes.

Pros

  • Ergonomic shape
  • Can stand up two ways
  • Great vapour production
  • Quick fire/ramp, with included tank and coils
  • Good, smooth airflow
  • Decent battery life

Cons

  • Cheap plastic feel to the mod
  • Tank doesn’t sit flush
  • Faulty fire button start up and powerdown
  • Chemical aftertaste and undertone on both coil heads
  • Not very versatile or inter-compatible

Final Review Verdict

The Vaptio IronClad Frogman C kit left me uninspired. I was highly disappointed by chemical flavour issues and also by the cheap feel and glaring build issues on the mod.

I would recommend a setup that I would feel happy to pick up and vape myself but, sadly, this is a setup that will now be consigned to my bedroom shelf for life. In spite of its affordable price, I just don’t feel that this setup is worth it, even for beginners.

Note: While this tank does produce great flavour, I’ve subtracted flavour points in my rating, due to an unpleasant aftertaste and undertone to the flavour.

If you haven’t heard of Vaptio, they are a Chinese manufacturer out of Shenzhen City, and their devices are manufactured by Shenzhen First Union Technology Co.

Vaptio have a fairly decent, and varied range of generally low cost kits, mods and tanks.Vaptio Super Cape kit review The Vaptio Super Cape seems to be carrying on with their line of weirdly named ‘Super-Hero’ style, poorly translated devices. Kits such as the Vaptio Wallcrawler and Super Bat.

But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad bit of kit, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s also the best vape mod out there. Lets dig deeper.

This Kit was sent to me for the purpose of review. All views and opinions are solely those of my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of others.

Design and Build Quality

Mod

The Vaptio Super Cape is a Marmite mod. You’ll either love it or hate it for styling alone. In my opinion it looks brilliant, and if you’re into your comic books and super heroes, you’ll love this. The Super Cape is a 220w MAX Dual 18650 mod, with plenty of output options including: VW/ TC/ Smart/ CCW/ CCT/ Bypass

It also offers a whole host of other customisations, mainly aimed at the 3 ‘Y’ shaped and 1 triangle shaped LED lights on the back of the mod, along with colour customisations to the home screen itself.Vaptio Super Cape Review
The 1.3” TFT display is nice and bright and is ‘speedo’ style, with your desired output information displayed in the centre of the device.

There is a triangular shaped button at the top of the device which releases the battery magazine, and below that is a downward arrow button which is clickable on either side of the arrow, which basically works as your left-right/up-down button, and on the side of the mod is the Fire/Enter sidebar style button, similar to the Smok X Cube II.

All the buttons are nice and clicky and I had no problem navigating the menus or using the buttons.

The battery release button protrudes more than the menu buttons which might be a saviour in disguise if the device happens to be squeezed in your pocket, as it would release the batteries and turn the device off, rather than firing the mod in your pocket. Intentional safety feature, or coincidental?Vaptio Super Cape in hand

The mod itself is Heavy, weighing in at 226g which is heavier than the Dual 18650 rugged Geek Vape Aegis Legend. I’m not sure what this mod is made of, but I’m pretty sure it’s made of Super-Hero muscles?

But aside from the weight, its nicely built, the paint quality is glossy and not too easy to scratch or scuff during my testing, the 510 connection at the top is apparently leak-proof, and it is a spring-loaded 510 connection. But it is extremely stiff.

The battery magazine and internal compartment is nicely constructed from some form of plastic, but it’s thick and well labelled to identify which way the batteries should be installed.

Battery compartment on Super Cape mod

Tank

The Paragon Tank is your standard looking, top filling, bottom fully adjustable airflow setting tank! The 810 drip tip comes complete with 2 ‘o’ rings, and there is no integrated ‘o’ ring in the top of the tank, so no compatibility with ‘goon’ style 810’s.Vaptio Paragon Vape Tank partsIt’s a top filling tank with an internal silicone seal/flappy bit that protects the 2 generously sized fillings slots from leaking if you accidentally drop the tank upside down, and it does work! That’s right, I tipped the tank upside down for a minute and had no leaks.Top Fill Seal

The 0.2Ω Mesh, and 0.15Ω strip coil that came with the kit are nice and beefy, they’re both basically ‘mesh’ coils but the 0.2Ω mesh covers more of the cotton, and the mesh itself is more intertwined. But they screw nice and cleanly into the tank, and everything else screws together nicely, with only the odd time the top cap was a bit of a faff to screw back on, but I got there in the end.

And at the bottom of the tank is an adjustable airflow slot on each side which offers plenty of airflow when wide open.Vaptio Paragon Tank Airflow

The paint and finish of the tank is really strong and durable, the only weakness in my opinion is the drip tip included with the tank, which is thin and bends when gently squeezed.

In The Hand

The Vaptio Super Cape with the Paragon Tank on top is a very weighty kit. The mod is top heavy, even with batteries installed and with the tank on top, it’s very easy to knock the kit over.Vaptio Super Cape Review

But to hold, it feels Ok. Despite the weird shapes and angles it feels fairly comfortable firing with your thumb, or with 3-4 fingers. The only annoying part to the feel is that your pinkie ends up placed between the bottom of the fire button, and the side of the battery magazine, which can feel a little annoying. But that’s being extremely niggly.

It’s also very easy to accidentally adjust the wattage up or down when holding the mod, which has caught me out a few times, resulting in a 220w dry hit – Not nice. You can lock the device but that locks everything. A simple option to lock all or lock mode wattage/temp etc. would cure this issue.

Quick Start Setup Guide

Tank

  • Unscrew the Top Cap
  • Poke bottle nozzle in, past the silicon seal
  • Fill with desired E-liquid
  • Re-screw on Top Cap

How to fill the vaptio paragon tank

Mod

Once switched on with 5 clicks of the fire button, you can access the main options by clicking the fire button a further 3 times.

Once into the main menu, you can change your mode as listed above, make changes to the settings which includes information on how many puffs you have taken, and the time you have been vaping for, which annoyingly is labelled as ‘Smoking Time’ – Hopefully a firmware upgrade will change that.

You can adjust when the screen, LED’s and device switches off in seconds, which is a nice feature if you’re trying to conserve battery life.led lights on vaptio supercape

Also in the settings menu is where you can change your colour preferences for the LED’s on the back. You can choose between:

  • Red, with a green triangle
  • Yellow, with a turquoise triangle
  • Blue, with a red triangle
  • Pink, with a yellow triangle
  • Green, with a blue triangle
  • White, with a white triangle

vaptio super cape screen colour optionAnd you can also set the option to multi-colour mode so it will scroll between all 6 options.

Also in the LED Mode settings, you can enable the LED’s to pulse in Breathing Mode, Stay On permanently, light up when firing the device, or switch them off.

In the ‘Theme’ menu, you can change between Theme 1, which is a blue display, and Theme 2 which is red. Both themes look good, but I preferred the blue theme during my testing.vaptio super cape oled screen

One thing that did bother me was the weird screensaver that comes on after a random number of seconds, I couldn’t find an option to remove this other than taking the Screen Sleep time down to 20 seconds, at which point the display turns off, so you won’t have to see the annoying switch between a weird Wolf image, and Vaptio’s Flavour Optimisation Logo.

How Does the Vaptio Super Cape Perform?

The Super Cape Mod

The mod itself is very good in my opinion, although its heavy, it’s a joy to hold and you’ll certainly get biceps like a Superhero if you curl this mod a number of times.vaptio Super Cape kit Exploded

But the display is nice, bright and simple to use, and personally I Love the Leds at the back. If it’s not for you, just switch them off. Battery life was not affected in the slightest by the LED’s, even when I left them on all day.

I tested the mod against a couple of my other dual 18650 devices to see how accurate the Temperature Control and Wattage modes were, and they perform very similarly to the other mods. I’m pleased to say the chip is doing a good job in relation to output in comparison to other devices.

I always advise against charging your batteries within a device, and always use an external, stand alone charger – But I tried out 2 dead 18650’s on this mod and they charged surprisingly well. But not quite to maximum. Which is fairly standard for internal charging.

The Paragon Tank

The tank is noisy, throughout the airflow it’s a turbulent tank. At full airflow, it whistles and wails which is a little embarrassing at times. At half airflow it’s a lot better, which worked out to be around where I liked it. Thank goodness.

The top airflow system with silicone flappy thing works brilliantly, and may save you a few ml in future if you accidentally drop the tank on its side whilst filling – My only issues with filling ended up being the bottle tops fault. So, there’s no complaints there.

The 2ml glass tank is the usual pointless bit of glass that the TPD Regulations impose on us. So as always, upgrade as soon as you can, or as with any sub ohm cloud creating tank, you’ll be filling the tank every 5 pulls.

Flavour & Vapour

For this review, I picked up a 120ml bottle of Element E-Liquid – Watermelon Chill from their Dripper Series. It’s simply a cooling fresh watermelon and is a firm ‘favourite’ of mine.

The 0.20Ω mesh coil did not perform as expected, after a fairly heavy break-in period (3x8ml tanks) – Yes that’s 12x 2ml tank loads for the TPD peeps – I finally got more than just the cooling sensation from the e-liquid. But it was lacking in sweetness and the tangy watermelon bite I was used to. I put a good 50-60ml through this coil, and although vapour production was good, the flavour never really hit the spot.

During my testing, this coil was usually rated around 0.16Ω as opposed to the 0.20Ω rating on the coil itself. So, 70-80w suited me perfect and gave a slightly warm vape.

The 0.15 Ω Strip coil performed better, with a quicker break-in period, and with a nice amount of sweetness, a much less muted flavour, and a lovely thick vapour at 80w. And the coil rating is spot on. On any device, this coil came out at 0.15Ω. I was much more comfortable with this coil which I wasn’t expecting as it doesn’t cover as much surface area of the cotton. But nonetheless it was my favourite of the two during my time with the Paragon Tank.

The coils however do seem like they will last pretty well with the right e-liquids, I had no dry hits or nasty tastes from either coil, apart from when I accidentally wacked the wattage up to max. Ouch.

Pros

Mod

  • Looks the bee’s knees (Subjective)
  • LED’s don’t affect battery life
  • Display & Options are clear and detailed
  • Well-built and excellent finish

Tank

  • Spill-Free top fill
  • Non TPD 8ml bubble glass
  • Coils are durable

Cons

Tank

  • Noisy airflow across the range
  • Flavour is muted on 0.2Ω coil
  • Drip tip is weak

Mod

  • Easy to accidently press wattage up
  • New Atomiser alert comes up every switch on

Final Review Verdict

As a combination, the Vaptio Super Cape Mod, and the Paragon kit work well together, and look pretty smart. It’s a shame the tank is so noisy, but then if you like the whooshing sound of a Super Hero flying past, you could well use this tank to replicate the same.

Apart from the accidental pressing of the wattage up button, the mod is a great bit of kit. Hopefully Vaptio will bring out a simple firmware upgrade which would clear the problems I experienced. Yes its heavy but it’s a solid, cool looking mod which I’ve been more than happy to carry around – But then the looks might not be your thing. Especially with the LED’s.

It’s a crowded vape starter kit market to say the least and the new Vaptio Tyro will have to be very good indeed to get to the top of the extremely long list of contenders.

Tyro is Latin or old English for ‘beginner or novice‘ so the company has chosen the name well given this comes with both a DTL and MTL coil. This of course means absolute newcomers to vaping can try each style to see what suits them from chucking a few clouds to a tighter restricted draw.

vaptio tyro kit review

This is the first Vaptio kit I’ve ever used or indeed reviewed and given I’d heard such good things about the company I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about.

It’s Name Is Latin For ‘Beginner Or Novice’ So Is The Tyro The Ideal Starter Kit?

We’ve reviewed a few of Vaptio’s set-ups: Gaz the Flat Cap Vaper quite liked the new Cosmo kit – our Michelle thought the Vaptio Solo F2 AIO was pretty good if a few niggles whilst Laura-ann was a little disappointed to say the least with the Capt’n 220 kit…so a bit of mixed bag there…

One thing is for sure the Vaptio Tyro starter kit is competitively priced – looks pretty cool – should be a cinch to use and comes in a range of colours: Black – Stainless Steel – Blue – Purple and Rainbow.

OK the Vaptio Tyro was sent to me free of charge from Ecigwizard for the purpose of this review – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies…though I can be bribed with Hot Cross buns this time of year…

Key Features

Vaptio has patented the fill system on the Tyro which some might feel is a bit of overkill. It’s simply a case of twisting the top of the tank just below the drip tip until the side fill port appears. It works very well but not something you’d call incredibly innovative.

vaptio tyro fill port

Another ‘unique selling point’ is being able to switch between the two styles of vaping: Mouth to Lung – MTL – and Direct To Lung – DTL. You do this by simply switching out the coil and closing or opening the airflow. Again not something we haven’t seen before. As to if this works we’ll look at later.

Find out more about DTL and MTL vaping styles.

vaptio tyro in hand

There’s no menu to worry about – simply charge – fill – vape, and it is quite small lengthwise for a pen style device so quite stealthy in the hand and easy to slip into your pocket or bag.

It has an 1500mAH internal battery which pumps out up to 25w and the chip inside recognises the resistance of your coil setting the power automatically…again nothing we haven’t seen before.

Vaptio describes this as an ‘All In One’ vape kit or AIO. However unlike the vast majority of these styles of vape kits, the Tyro’s tank isn’t permanently fixed to the battery. Indeed to swap out the coil you’ll need to remove the glass which for me says its’ not really an AIO…but hey that’s nit picking somewhat I suppose so let’s call it a semi AIO.

Though in the balance of fairness neither the tank nor the battery can be used independently with others…a semi semi AIO???

The chip includes the usual safety features: Short Circuit Protection – Over Vape Protection – Overcharge Protection and Low Voltage Protection.

Design and Build Quality

As I’ve said this is the first Vaptio vape kit I’ve reviewed and straight off the bat I’m impressed by the build and materials. This feels very solid in the hand – you can tell it’s a good quality kit put it that way and certainly not heavy, feeling comfortable to hold.

Both the airflow and the fill system have just the right amount of resistance and move easily enough. However you do need to twist the top cap quite a bit to fill …not an issue as once closed off it’s definitely airtight and so far leak proof.

vaptio tyro components

The glass pops on and off easily enough with decent O rings that give you confidence when out and about and the coils screw in and out reasonably well. I say reasonably – they can be a little difficult to line up and can be a little crunchy but nothing too worrying.

One tip I’ll offer is to make sure you tighten just a tad – only a tad! – more than finger tight as the first time I tried to vape it couldn’t fire as I hadn’t tightened the coil enough…silly schoolboy error on my part really I guess. The good news is I was able to tighten the coil without having to empty the juice – always a bonus.

Tip: screw coil into battery not top cap!

Design wise it’s a pen style and as I always say there’s not a lot you can do to make them stand out unless you add garish colours – patterns and enough LED’s to attract aliens.

However and despite seeing the ‘fade’ design before on other similar mods – such as the awesome Innokin Endura T18-II – it looks cool. As does the tiny logo that peeps out from the fill port – very smart – as is the faded Vaptio logo on the bottom of the device.

fill port closed

It’s actually quite a classy looking uncluttered design and I do like the understated yet pleasantly clicky fire button that lights when fired and again is the shape of the company logo.

Incidentally the USB port is high on the side of the mod and given it’s quite a slim device I don’t recommend charging standing up as it has a tendency to topple over. I have charged this on its side filled with e-liquid and the two hours it took saw no leaking. And yes you can vape on this whilst charging which is known as pass-through.

So well built – decent design and very comfortable in the hand.

As always let’s cut to the chase and see how this one vapes…

How Does the Vaptio Tyro Kit Perform?

I’m a regular MTL and DTL vaper so this should be an ideal vape kit for me especially as I’ve reviewed a few setups that also claim to be able to switch between the styles. Sadly experience tells me this isn’t always the case.

So let’s look at the two coils separately starting with the MTL coil. For both coils I used the Raspberry Punk Grenade from Riot Squad – my third bottle since my review so I do know the flavour and clouds to say the least!

BTW the kit is compatible with coils from: the Vaptio Cosmo Tank – Nautilus Mini – Nautilus 2 and the Nautilus 2S…and as you’ll see next it might be good to experiment with those…

Flavour and Clouds From the MTL Coil

This has quite a high resistance of 1.60 ohms and fires between 10 to 15w and I read somewhere its ceramic – it certainly appears to be. Incidentally even with my super-powered tired old man’s reading glasses on that writing on the coils is tiny!

After filling and leaving to soak for a good 15 minutes my first vape wasn’t that impressive if I’m honest.

mtl coil

There’s plenty of airflow options from wide open to one tiny hole however to get what I’d class as a ‘true MTL’ vape I had to close that single hole off almost shut. Then it was tight though given I like an airier MTL vape it still wasn’t that tight if I’m honest and certainly NOT what I’d call sucking a rugby ball through a hosepipe tight.

Flavour wise again I wasn’t impressed indeed the first word that came to mind wasn’t muted but ‘watery’ if you catch my drift. Sure there’s flavour but even almost shutting the airflow off completely didn’t make it pop.

Now three fills in there’s a little improvement but nowhere near enough for my taste buds to get excited by what is a real fruity flavoursome e-liquid when used in other similar set-ups. From that I can only think ceramic coils are so out-dated it’s untrue – it’s all about the mesh these days…

Vapour wise things look up a little but even with my 70:30 VG and PG mix and as you’d expect at that power there was vapour and enough I guess to keep you happy.

Flavour and Clouds From the DTL Coil

Given the, shall we say muffled flavour off the MTL coil, I wasn’t expecting any improvement from the 0.7ohm coil…OK maybe a wee bit given this was cotton rather than ceramic and sad to say I was right.

You’re pretty much getting twice the power into half the resistance so I hoped the flavour would pop – it didn’t…OK maybe slightly.

dtl coil

I wouldn’t say my tongue zinged instead it sent a puzzled message to my brain recognising the taste but wondering where all those tangy fruity notes had gone.

Again three fills in and nothing much has changed however as you might expect the clouds are certainly dense but no way would you win a cloud chucking comp.

Sadly I’m all out of Nautilus coils so was unable to check those against the Vaptio supplied ones. However having used those Aspire tanks often I reckon the flavour will be superior…but don’t hold me to that 😉

Pros

  • Well-made and good materials
  • Smart design
  • Clever filling system
  • Choice of vaping styles
  • Decent airflow choice
  • Takes Nautilus coils
  • Great battery life – 12 hours from fully charged
  • Very good price point

Cons

  • Muted flavour
  • Ceramic coil – dated these days
  • Not the tightest MTL vape
  • Semi AIO so not swapping tanks or mods

Final Review Verdict

My last con being ‘nothing new‘ needs explaining especially given Vaptio has patented the fill system.

A quick look at the company’s website shows a plethora of similar looking vape kits so one has to ask the question what’s the point of bringing out the same old tired thing? Especially as someone there must have vaped on it and thought the flavour wasn’t up to scratch and shouted:

Hey! Why don’t we put some of those new mesh coils in it?

If they did it would certainly lift the flavour to say the least…

So despite that fancy dan fill port it’s just another pen style vape kit with 2 coils of different resistances and that really is it.

Up against others in its ‘class’ sure it stands out a little in the looks department and yes its well-built but so are many others.

So in all honesty I have to say there’s nothing new to see here move along. Let’s put it this way a couple of years ago and at a push early last year it might have held its own – but with mesh coils all the rage it is like that ceramic – a little out-dated…or should I say the Tyro is tired..?

Would I buy the Vaptio Tyro kit again if lost or damaged?

Not really…plenty of better alternatives out there although for the price it’s certainly a bargain and those Nautlius coils might boost the flavour…

Design and Build Quality

Cosmo Tank

The Cosmo Tank is a cute little thing, housing 2ml of e-liquid. But it has some very unique features.

For such a small tank, it all slides and slots together nicely and during my testing I had no issued with leaks, parts coming loose or faults.Cosmo-Tank-Exploded

It feels well made and the paint finish is very durable. At the top is a 510 Drip Tip fitting which has been compatible with all my other drip tips.

Unfortunately the kit doesn’t come with a spare glass which is a shame.

Airflow

The Cosmo Tank easily manages mouth to lung (MTL) vaping, and direct to lung (DTL) vaping thanks to clever adjustable airflow options.

Read more About Mouth to Lung and Direct to Lung vaping here

For MTL, you can set the airflow between 2 little holes on one side only to allow a more restrictive vape, but then twist it up to DTL airflow which opens up large slots on both sides. Cosmo tank mtl and dtl airflowIts super simple to adjust as the complete tank twists, leaving the base stationary which is a clever little feature.Cosmo tank airflow

No matter where you set your airflow, there is simply no noise, no whistle. Which is impressive in my opinion for such a diddy tank.

Filling

The Top of the tank twists off with a smooth 90 degree anti-clockwise turn, enabling the tank to be filled via the 2 large kidney shaped slots, and is easily re-assembled by placing the top cap on and turning until the notches are located and it drops back into place.how to fill vaptio cosmo tank

Turn the top clockwise 90 degrees and its ready to go.

Coils

The kit comes with 2 coils, the C1 1.6 Ω coils is designed for the MTL experience, with the Wattage recommended between 10-15w. And the C2 coil is a 0.7 Ω coils designed for DTL, with a recommended wattage of 15-23w. Which in my opinion is baffling as the device itself is rated up to 30w.

So surely that means using the C2 coil at the Highest rating will damage the coils? It appeared not during my testing.Vaptio cosmo coil - C1 and C2

Cosmo Mod

The Vaptio Cosmo mod is just as cute as the tank with a fire button up top which when clicked 5 times will turn on/off the device, and a downward pointing arrow below that, which enables you to select between the 3 power options:

  • H – High (30w Output)
  • M – Medium (20w Output)
  • L – Low (10w Output)cosmo vape mod settings

There is a tiny RGB dot that appears when you release the fire button, which is used as a battery indicator:

  • Blue – High Battery (70-100%)
  • Green – Medium Battery (30-70%)
  • Red – Low Battery (0-30%)

Charging

When charging the device, the display will flash L-M-H and this will alter depending on the current charge level of your battery.

In The Hand

This super slender kit is super comfortable in the hand, the paint finish is nice and smooth and the only parts of the mod that slightly protrude are the fire button and the wattage selector. vaptio cosmo mod in handThe curve of the rear of the Vaptio Cosmo mod nestles nicely into your fingers leaving your thumb in perfect position to fire, and adjust the settings.

In the Pocket

As previously mentioned, this is a super small kit so its highly unlikely that you wont have space in your wallet for it, let alone in your pocket.

Setting the Tank & Mod Up

To set up the Kit for first use, its pretty simple:

  • Just screw the tank onto the mod
  • Twist top cap 90 degrees to access the filling slots
  • Fill with your desired e-liquid and re-fit the cap
  • Let the coil soak up the liquid for 3-5mins and away you go!

Changing The Coils

  • Unscrew the tank. (Sometimes the top unscrews leaving the coil in the base, sometimes the coil unscrews with the top. Either way it doesn’t matter)
  • Remove the glass
  • Unscrew the coil
  • Fit new coil
  • Refit glass tube
  • Re-fit tank sections

How Does The Cosmo Perform?

It’s hard not to compare this kit to the Pod System devices which have taken over the starter kit world during recent times. But seeing as its clearly aimed at the newbies, that’s what I’m going to do.

Flavour & Vapour

For this review I have been using a 20mg 50VG/5-PG Nic Salt called Caramel Tobacco by Momo Salt, and a 3mg 70VG/30PG eliquid called Cosmix BlueShift by Darkstar Vapour.vaptio cosmo tank coil replacement

C1 1.6 Ω coils

As far as MTL coils go, this has been a joy to vape on, with the airflow set at pretty much its lowest (Half of 1 hole open) and the wattage on Low, it delivers a lovely, slightly warm, restrictive vape with a nice amount of flavour and a discrete amount of vapour.

This setting feels extremely similar to smoking – Which should work nicely for recent quitters. I found with the airflow open any more, it didn’t feel as satisfying.

C2 0.7 Ω coils

Vaping this DTL, on High, with the airflow wide open on both sides, it delivers a surprisingly good vape, flavour is excellent and impressive vapour production for such a small tank.

Also, interestingly enough, the coil performed very well on the Low setting, with the airflow set to a minimum. (Half of 1 hole) SO I really don’t see a point to the 2 coil options. I happily used the 0.7 Ω coils to do my MTL and DTL vaping with no issues whatsoever, and on the low setting (Below the recommended wattage) it was a lovely MTL vape.

With regards to vaping above the 23w recommended, on High, I experienced no dry hits, or burning taste when vaping with the airflow wide open.

Both coils worked extremely well and it was surprising how little e-liquid I used during the past week. After 4 days on the 1.6 Ω coils, I had a look at the cotton and it still looked fairly new. So I’d say the coils are extremely durable and long lasting

Batteries/Life and Charging

The 1500mAh battery is more than enough to last a full day, and longer. Throughout my tests of this kit I only charged the device twice. Which takes around 25minutes.

Pros

  • A great all-rounder for a new vaper
  • Coils last and last
  • Not a heavy e-liquid drinker
  • Packs a punch for a small kit

Cons

  • The 1.6 Ω coil in my opinion has no purpose
  • No spare glass tube

Final Review Verdict

With the rise in Pod Systems, the Vaptio Cosmo is a Dark Horse. And it will probably struggle with sales due to Pod Kits. But if Pods aren’t your thing, this is a fantastic little device which offers an excellent vaping experience whichever way you vape it.

The Vaptio site says this mod has “Super Player Mode” which is something I have seen on a lot of Vaporesso mods – wonder if it is a similar chip? Basically it means you can use a wide range of tanks on here as the resistance limits are broad at 0.03ohm minimum to 5ohm maximum.vex 100 in hand
