Another interestingly designed RDA from Tobeco in the form of the Zorro RDA has hit the market following on from the Hollow Point, Rubik, Turbo and a number of others!

The Zorro RDA is an RDA aimed at cloud chasers, with a short chamber to increase flavour, large airflow and a wide bore drip tip included in the package.Mini RDA by Tobeco

Tobeco seem to be churning the RDA’s out like no ones business at the moment, production seems to be in overdrive! Lets have a look at the Zorro…

Kit Contents

Short and sweet with the Zorro as per its brothers in the Tobeco stable, in the package you get-

  • Tobeco Zorro RDA
  • Spare O-Rings
  • Spare Phillips Screws

As mentioned above, that is it! Nothing else included here…

Tobeco Zorro RDA Setup

Upon first impressions the deck of the Tobeco Zorro RDA is pretty much an exact match of the Tobeco Rubik RDA, which was a really easy deck to build on and one I could happily recommend to a beginner.

There is one slight difference though- the middle centre post is square to stop any issues with spinning centre posts. Pleasingly, I found the deck to be clean of machine oil and ready to build and use however I would check your own unit for any machine oil traces and give it a good clean to be on the safe side.Tobeco Zorro RDA Deck

Three big posts with oversized post holes are to be found on the deck, with large Phillips screws present, you have got plenty of room for your coil legs in the wide post holes, and dual coiling the Zorro can be done with ease.

The juice well is a decent size, slightly larger than the Rubik RDA, with bottom airflow present for increased flavour, but having bottom airflow you do lose a little bit of room in the juice well.

Now, you can adjust the airflow, but not enough to run single coil builds. The Zorro RDA is a dual coil RDA only.Zorro RDA Build Deck

As it uses a very similar deck to the Rubik RDA, I went with the same build I used in the Rubik RDA which was 8 wraps of 0.42mm kanthal with a 2.5mm diameter, coils over the airflow slots and centred on the deck, this came out at 0.5 ohm in the Zorro RDA.

Again, as per with the Rubik RDA, no issues trapping the coil legs down at all and once tightened down they stayed in the post holes securely.

You want to make sure you have your wick over the bottom airflow holes to prevent leaks, but not completely obscuring them.

The Tobeco Zorro RDA is a rebuildable dripping atomiser and requires you to have knowledge of how to build and install your own coil and wick configuration, as there is no pre installed build that comes with the Zorro RDA.

How Does The Zorro RDA Perform?

The Zorro RDA sports a reduced chamber in order to increase flavour but to be brutally honest, the flavour from the Zorro RDA is nothing special, it’s not bad but it isn’t particularly great either.

It’s definitely passable though, and better than quite a few other RDA options out there.base of the tobeco Zorro RDA

I would have expected better flavour from an RDA sporting under coil airflow, but a lot of RDA’s I have found with under coil airflow tend to spit juice back occasionally when in use, and I haven’t experienced hardly any of this with the Zorro RDA.

Clouds are the key here and the Zorro doesn’t disappoint with its airflow. I was getting some great clouds from the Zorro with my build of choice, the draw is really airy, and as a result you can blow some huge clouds with it, cloud chasers are going to absolutely love using the Zorro.

I was able to take my build up to 60W using the MVP 3.0 Pro before things got a little too hot with the exterior of the Zorro RDA, but the included Delrin wide bore drip tip prevents any unsightly burns on your lips and allows you to maximise your vapour intake at the same time and keeps the vape relatively cool at high power.Zorro RDA on SMOK M80

Airflow is adjustable by rotating the top cap but it ranges from wide open to pretty much wide open again!

As mentioned it’s a cloud chasing RDA so you wouldn’t expect any less. Having under coil airflow does improve flavour slightly, it’s certainly better than a lot of other RDA’s available in the same price range. You need to be careful not to over drip with the Hunter RDA otherwise you will end up with quite bad leaks through the bottom airflow.

Tobeco Zorro Video Review

Final Review Verdict

It’s a solid cloud chasing RDA and a cheap one at that! The airflow is very good and flavour above average, flavour isn’t as great unfortunately but it’s not bad owing to the reduced chamber, the Zorro RDA is geared more towards the cloud chaser than the flavour chaser.

The good points without doubt outweigh the bad with the Zorro, and at the price you can pick it up for I definitely think it is a bargain atty.

All in all it gets a thumbs up from me, it punches above its weight, gives great cloud chasing results and above all, it’s very cheap! One I can recommend for a beginner due to the easy to use build deck, this would offer a good introduction to dual coil cloud chasing RDA’s.

The Good

  • Big clouds! If you are looking for a cloud chasing RDA the Zorro won’t disappoint
  • Another unique design from Tobeco
  • Easy build deck
  • Huge posts with generous post holes
  • Great price, the Zorro is a bargain for an authentic RDA
  • Big airflow

The Not So Good

  • Leaks through the bottom airflow if you aren’t careful
  • Can only be used in single coil mode
  • Flavour is average

Recently it seems like there has been a bit of a spike in the amount of square shaped Rebuild-able Dripping Atomizer’s coming to market, it seems to be a growing popular trend at the moment, as it seems manufacturers are looking at ways to capitalize on the huge popularity of box mods by designing RDA’s that sit squarely (no pun intended) on them, to provide a better fit than the standard cylindrical based atomizer.Tobeco Rubik RDA Review

Tobeco are looking to jump on this with the release of the Tobeco Rubik RDA, a genuine RDA designed to sit perfectly on box mods, whilst providing an offbeat design and unique top and bottom airflow. Lets have a look at this unique design from Tobeco!

Kit Contents

  • 1 Rubik RDA
  • 6 O-Rings
  • 3 Screws
  • 1 Gift Box

The Rubik RDA is housed in a pretty cool cardboard box with a rubik’s cube style design on the outer, everything about this RDA is very boxy! No blue screwdriver included here to add to your collection either…

Rubik RDA Set Up

Top marks to Tobeco for the design of the build deck, nice, easy and user friendly! It’s easy to get to as the top cap slides on and off easily, and securely at the same time.

Base of tobeco rubikThe build deck is comprised of a three post set up with large Phillips screws and large 2.5mm post holes with plenty of room to build on. Looking at the deck you have a reasonably deep juice well, and either side you will find the 8mm cyclops under coil airflow slots.

Building on the deck of the Rubik RDA is a breeze, you have a lot of room to play around with here. The Phillips head screws are thick, and thankfully they do not come screwed into the posts too tightly, and are adjustable with ease, the post holes measure in at 2.5mm so there is plenty of room for large wire thicknesses to fit through. It’s very forgiving.

For my build, I went with 8 wraps of 0.42mm kanthal with a 2.5mm internal diameter for 0.46ohms, and made sure I adjusted my coils so they sat over the airflow slots for maximum flavor.

It was so quick and simple to set up, 0.42mm kanthal is relatively thick but I had no issues feeding the coil legs into and through the post holes, and the large Phillips screws trapped the coil legs down securely.

Specs

  • Unique Rubik’s cube inspired design
  • Top and bottom airflow
  • 8mm cyclops airflow slits providing under coil airflow to enhance flavour
  • 3 post design with large 2.5mm post holes
  • Adjustable airflow
  • Wide bore drip tip included
  • 510 threaded connector

How Does The Rubik Perform?

With the airflow, it almost seems like it is a little throttled for me, the airflow is drawn from the top and bottom of the Rubik RDA, my first thoughts were that the bottom airflow would be blocked off by the top cap when on a mod, but if you look at the bottom of the Rubik RDA you will notice some tiny slots where the air is drawn from. Atty-Cubed-Parts

These slots I believe could do with being a little wider to allow for more airflow to be drawn from the bottom, as when you close off the top cap airflow and just use the bottom airflow for flavor the draw to me seems very restricted.

The Rubik RDA, as with most RDA’s offering under coil airflow, is prone to leaks through the airflow slits on the deck, so you need to ensure you wick carefully to minimize this. I found that dripping your juice directly onto the posts and letting the wick soak it up negated the leaking somewhat.

The top cap airflow I could only adjust by removing the wide bore drip tip and placing this over the airflow slots to my desired setting, whenever I tried to twist the drip tip I ended up twisting the entire RDA and changing my bottom airflow setting.Tobeco Rubik RDA on SMOK M80 Plus

Overall, the Tobeco RDA does provide some great flavor through the large airflow slots on the base of the deck underneath your coils, but cloud chasers will be left disappointed as this really isn’t set up for clouds in my opinion, despite the potential, it’s more of a flavour focused RDA.

PEEK insulators are used and they seem quite solid to me, so I believe that the Rubik RDA has no problems handling low resistance builds.

Final Review Verdict

If the different cube sections of the Tobeco Rubik RDA actually spun as well, that would have opened up a wealth of different airflow options that could potentially make for an amazing RDA boasting arguably the most customize-able airflow on the market. Potentially something to think of if Tobeco decide to release a version 2!

Overall, it is a little hit and miss. There is some good flavor production, better than average, but I feel with the under coil airflow it could be better. I also expected a bit more from the airflow in terms of vapor production, it seems a little limited. It looks bloody cool though, so if you are a vaper that want’s something a little unique this could very well be for you!

The Good

  • Build deck is a dream to build on
  • Big posts with larger than average post holes
  • Unique design
  • Good flavour production
  • Suits box mods surprisingly well
  • It’s cheap- available for under £20

The Not So Good

  • Airflow options seem quite limited
  • Not one for the cloud chasers
  • It’s pretty hefty
  • Only suits box mods with squared off edges
  • Edges on the RDA are quite sharp

With the recent release of the Turbo V2, Rubik and now the Hollow Point RDA, Tobeco are really working hard to make inroads into the affordable genuine RDA department, whilst trying to offer something with a unique and offbeat design, and at the same time stepping away from the mass producing of clones that they were previously very well known for.Tobeco Hollow Point RDA Review

The new RDA releases from Tobeco have been a little hit and miss recently, the hits have thankfully outweighed the misses so far, but does the Tobeco Hollow Point hit the target?

Kit Contents

  • Tobeco Hollow Point RDA
  • Spare O-rings and post screwsTobeco Hollow Point Box

And that’s it really, no blue screwdriver, which personally I’m quite happy about as I have far too many of them anyway! The Tobeco Hollow Point will come in the ubiquitous black packaging Tobeco are known for, and the Hollow Point RDA is available in either silver or black colours.

Tobeco Hollow Point RDA Setup

Another Tobeco RDA offering easy setup, which will be appealing to beginners. Pleasingly, I found my Hollow Point was clean and free of machine oil upon delivery, so that saved it from being put through the ultrasonic! As with any new atomiser however, I would highly recommend checking your unit out for any traces of machine oil should you decide to purchase the Hollow Point RDA.

The top cap comes away from the build deck with little force required allowing you quick and easy access to the build deck. You have four posts available with large post holes, you won’t have any issues at all building on this deck! The negative posts are also milled into the deck which increases conductivity.Hollow Point parts

I have seen this RDA as touted as having a large juice well but I do disagree- it’s certainly smaller than a lot of others out there however it isn’t a major issue. It’s easy to re drip- the delrin drip tip is detachable from the top cap and it’s easy enough to drip down through this onto the centre posts.

The Hollow Point RDA can be built with either a single or dual coil set up, if you prefer to use single coil set ups then one side of the airflow can be blocked off easily with the AFC ring whilst leaving the other side open.

Tobeco Hollow Point RDA Specs

  • Genuine RDA from Tobeco
  • 4 post design with large post holes for easy building
  • Adjustable lightning bolt airflow
  • Unique design
  • 22mm width
  • 47mm height
  • 510 threaded with adjustable silver plated copper contact pin
  • Delrin tapered drip tip
  • Stainless steel construction

How Does The Hollow Point Perform?

Airflow is drawn through the lightning bolt airflow slots, and the Hollow Point is surprisingly pretty airy, you can get some impressive cloud production from it. I didn’t actually expect it to be as good as it was, particularly as those lightning bolt airflow slots are not particularly large either! Unfortunately you can’t blow lightning bolt shaped clouds however…

Flavour was really quite impressive. Starting off with vaping my own DIY mixes to test it out yielded some really good results, the flavour was certainly a lot better than a lot of other RDA’s I have tried. With more complex liquids I found myself trying to identify certain flavour notes that I could identify in other RDA’s, but it was by no means a bad experience.Tobeco Hollow Point On Box MOD

There wasn’t really any leaks to speak of whilst using the Hollow Point. The only time it did leak was through user error when I over-dripped too much juice on the deck which caused leaks through the airflow lightning slots, otherwise sticking to the method of removing the top cap and dripping my chosen juice down onto the posts so my wicks absorbed the juice from the juice well seemed to work really well and keep things nice and clean!RDA-Deck of Hollow Point by tobeco

I’ve only had some issues when running the Hollow Point at over 70w and chain vaping it, I have found with a couple of different builds that it has got very hot very quickly, and the drip tip is quite short so you need to be careful you don’t end up with any nasty burns on your lips! Other than that, I’ve been quite impressed with the performance of the Tobeco Hollow Point.

Final Review Verdict

I must say a big well done to Tobeco for coming up with an RDA that has an offbeat and appealing design, which also performs admirably well in the flavour and vapour departments respectively, whilst being absolutely dirt cheap too!

The Tobeco Hollow Point is available ridiculously cheap, even cheaper than some cloned RDA’s out there, and it’s a bargain for the price considering as you get an RDA with a great design that actually performs really well, and is an ideal RDA for newbies to learn how to build on given the single or dual coil build options, relatively large build deck and generous post holes. The Hollow Point RDA definitely hits the target in my opinion!

The Good

  • Offbeat design that actually works really well!
  • Cheap as chips for a genuine RDA
  • 4 post design allows for easy builds
  • Massive post holes
  • Good flavour
  • Better than average clouds
  • Single and dual coil builds supported

The Not So Good

  • Juice well is not particularly deep
  • Drip tip is quite short and you can end up with a burnt lip if you aren’t careful!
  • Gets hot at high wattage
  • Post screws can be a bit temperamental

Hot on the heels of the Turbo V2,  Tobeco Technology Co. Ltd. also bring you the Turbine RDA. This RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer) derives it’s name from the top cap which is rather like a turbine in appearance. It is available in black, blue, green, gold and stainless steel finishes.

Tobeco Turbine Review

This four post design allows for single and dual coil builds meaning this product should appeal to most users.

The Turbine RDA features:

  • Four post design
  • 22mm diameter
  • Deep juice well
  • Aluminium detachable top heat sink
  • Stainless Steel and Aluminium construction
  • Silver plated contact pin
  • Adjustable airflow control. Supports both single and dual coil builds
  • Negative posts milled directly into the deck
  • Delrin wide bore drip tip

The Turbine RDA Box Contains:

  • 1x Turbine RDA
  • Spare screws
  • Spare O-rings

Presented in the new Tobeco black packaging this RDA is not exactly overflowing with extras but all things considered it doesn’t need to be.

The Turbine Is A Very Straightforward Looking RDA:

This RDA is of a typical size, it is very well machined with no noticeable issues. It is rather odd to look at with the turbine style top heat sink cap. On one side in rather large lettering is the Tobeco company name and logo.Tobeco Turbine RDA Base

I realise they are the manufacturer’s and can stick their name wherever they want, but it does look a little tacky to me and I would have preferred a more stylized logo, although I don’t want to get sidetracked nitpicking about it.

All of the various components are quite tough and rigid, however the airflow ring itself feels a little lightweight and may not be as durable. However it appears as if it is made of aluminium so I don’t think its a real concern.

The O-rings are very strong and hold the top cap extremely securely. I wouldn’t say its difficult to remove but its does require a little more force to pull off than most other RDA’s.

This RDA features a split central positive post and the negative posts are milled directly into the deck. The juice well is deep enough, not massively so but deeper than quite a few RDA’s.

Parts for Turbine RDA

The air slots are of the cyclops style design and are very large ensuring a large amount of airflow. As already stated they support both single and dual coil builds.

The screws are pretty good, I think the Turbo V2 ones are better but these are decent enough. When doing my first build they did end up snapping the wire so may be a little sharp but it is a possibility that I simply overtightened them.

The post holes are large enough to accommodate most typical builds and I had no issues fitting 24 AWG (0.5mm) wire through them.Turbine RDA Deck

The top turbine shaped aluminium heat sink can be unscrewed from the stainless steel top cap. I assume this is due to it being manufactured separately out of a different material and making it removable allows for cleaning if necessary.

The Turbine RDA was thankfully free of machine oil but I gave it a quick wash anyway.

How does the Turbine RDA perform?

This RDA performs really well and it actually surprised me because when I was initially building my coils it seemed very similar to most other drippers. It is very easy to build and work with and there is more than enough room in there for most typical builds.

I tested it with both a single 0.8 ohm coil made from 26AWG (0.4mm) wire. I also tested a dual coil build made from 24AWG (0.5mm) wire with a final resistance of 0.4 ohms. I wicked both builds with Japanese cotton.

In terms of flavour it is very good, far better than Tobeco’s Turbo V2. I used a variety of juice in this RDA and found them all to be very flavoursome. T-Juice Red Astaire, El Diablo’s Mambo and Manabush’s Coyote Coconut, all of them tasted exactly how they should and vaping them in this RDA was very enjoyable.Tobeco Turbine On SXPRO M80

As a dual coil set up flavour is of course better but obviously the juice is drained far more quickly. This RDA really surprises me because it didn’t actually appear at first inspection to be a flavour chasing dripper but funnily enough it is. Even with a single coil and vaping at 50 watts it is quite full on in the taste department. A lot of RDA’s that have too much airflow tend to lose flavour like you’d expect and often with my preferred 6mg juice I don’t always get a throat hit but I consistently get one in the Turbine.

It is quite a noisy RDA, its no kazoo like the Turbo V1 before you get worried, but the way the juice spits and hits the interior of the chamber it really is quite a rattling, roaring sound. Perhaps this is also another reason for this RDA’s name.

I had no actual spit back issues and so far it hasn’t leaked. Clearly it will leak if you overfill or carry it around while it is full.

In terms of airflow it is very wide open but you can close down the air slots to suit. I actually prefer a very open draw and even with a single coil with one slot fully open it still remains very flavoursome.

Vapour production is excellent, its not the equivalent of a RDA with a chuff style cap but it does put out quite a lot of dense vapour.

The heat sink works as intended but the delrin drip tip is quite short so at high wattage it can get quite hot especially if you are know to chain vape like me.

Is The Turbine RDA Worth It?

This is a really good RDA. Its not a particularly striking or elegant design, in truth that shouldn’t matter but vaper’s and myself included can sometimes be quite judgmental about devices that don’t appeal visually. What this device does well are the essentials that any vaper would look for in a dripper.

The really impressive thing about this RDA though is the price. Considering how well this somewhat ugly little dripper works its a fantastic bargain.

When you consider some of the very expensive RDA’s out there that only have average performance at best then the Turbine really puts them to shame. What troubles me is a lot of people will skip this due to the looks and it would be unfair to dismiss a very good and worthy RDA.

Tobeco Turbine Verdict

A absolutely solid RDA that is a bargain in terms of price and performance. Don’t let the aesthetics put you off because its useful to a variety of users. It is forgiving for the novice, a useful flavour chasing device for others and puts out a reasonable amount of vapour that should keep most light cloud chasing fans happy.

It is perhaps less useful to an advanced RDA user who may crave additional extras and other options but to everyone else its going to be quite appealing. With the Turbine RDA, Tobeco have truly made a really great authentic product.

Pros:

  • Well machined.
  • A real bargain for an authentic product.
  • Rather flavoursome.
  • Good vapour production.
  • Supports dual and single coil.
  • Aluminium heat sink works as intended
  • Novice friendly RDA, good for someone new to dripping.

Cons:

  • Needs a cooler logo. Not really a con. Apologies Tobeco.
  • Screws are decent enough but could be improved.
  • Not especially elegant if that sort of thing bothers you.
  • Delrin drip tip could be a little thicker and possibly longer because it does heat up.

The original Turbo RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer) despite good quality machining wasn’t the most successful design. It tried to be innovative but in many respects but seemed nothing more than a pointless gimmick. This time Tobeco Technology Co. Ltd once again in collaboration with Ohm Nation U.S.A. have tried again.

Turbo V2 RDA by Tobeco – An Improvement On The Original?

Is the Tobeco Turbo V2 worthy of consideration then? Maybe even a place on our best RDA list? We shall see:Tobeco Turbo V2 review

The Turbo V2 RDA Features:

  • Polycarbonate Grade Plastic Turbine Wheel
  • Smaller and considerably different in appearance to the Turbo V1
  • 304 Stainless Steel Construction
  • Square Post to prevent spinning
  • Negative Posts milled directly into the deck
  • PEEK Insulator
  • Deep Juice Well
  • Adjustable Airflow
  • Designed for a Dual Coil build

The Turbo V2 box contains:

  • 1x Turbo V2 RDA
  • 1x Pyrex Wide Bore Drip Tip
  • 1x Delrin 510 Drip Tip Adapter
  • Spare Screws
  • Spare O-Rings
  • 1x Small Blue Screwdriver
  • 1x warning card stating that highly acidic juice may break down the polycarbonate fan material

Abandoning the gold coloured box design the original Turbo came in, Tobeco have made their new packaging smaller with a mainly black box with bright yellow lettering. Its not massively important but I do think the new packaging looks far more professional.

The Turbo V2 looks nicer than the Turbo:

For me the problem with the original Turbo was that it was too big, a rather overly tall RDA that seemed unnecessary. The Turbo V2 is much more compact and overall I feel it is far better designed.  The machining is very good much like the V1. Everything fits together well. The screws are good quality and have bigger heads, they work well and trap the wire without issues.Tobeco Turbo V2 Base

The review item was the black coloured version and the coating seems very good. It has not flaked at all up to this point. The Pyrex drip tip has been reduced in size and while still suitably wide bore it far more comfortable to use.

In every way that counts Tobeco have refined the Turbo design and aesthetically I prefer this version to the previous one.

One safety aspect I mentioned regarding the original Turbo was due to the size of the Pyrex drip tip and the possibility of the fan material breaking down I pointed out that the fan could potentially end up in your mouth. Tobeco have remedied the problem and fitting a mesh section directly above the fan itself, top marks to them for addressing this.

The airflow is exactly the same as the original with the air flow holes being a laser cut “OM” symbol on opposite sides of the atomizer. The protruding polycarbonate blades that are attached to the fan/top cap assembly can be rotated and open up or close off the air flow.Tobeco RDA V2

Is The Turbo V2 Better and How Does It Vape?

The Turbo is still a dual coil only RDA, so nothing has really changed in terms of how you go about building it. I used 26 AWG (0.4mm) wire  and made two identical coils of eight wraps apiece. My final resistance was 0.4 ohms. I wicked the coils with Japanese Cotton.Turbo V2 RDA Deck

In terms of vaping the Turbo V2 is superior in every respect to the V1. I found the V1 to have distinctly average flavour but the V2 is far better. Certainly at its most wide open airflow the flavour is fairly reasonable probably above average compared to a lot of cloud chasing RDA’s but heavily closing down the airflow really boosts the flavour in this one.

I would say closed down the flavour is very nice, perhaps not as full on flavoursome as a Derringer or a Mini Freakshow but nothing that will really disappoint you. The flavour is most likely better than the V1 due to the reduced size of the atomizer itself.

Regarding vapour production it really is quite immense. In the original Turbo the fan tended to dissipate the vapour rather than boost it and also due to the large size of the RDA itself I think a lot of the vapour was diminished before it reached your mouth. Being far smaller the V2 excels with the most casual effortless draw producing huge clouds for your enjoyment.Tobeco Turbo V2 on SMOK M80 Plus

Finally the fan has become something more than a gimmicky placebo effect and actually does seem to improve things. Essentially the vape is equivalent to a huge chuff cap style of RDA but with at least two to three times more vapour being distributed by the fan, quite the accomplishment when the drip tip itself is only the wide bore variety.

One advantage of the original Turbo was that the fan helped to cool the vape to a degree when vaping at high wattage. The V2 also succeeds in that department and 75-100W is a much cooler vape than would be the case with another RDA. Its still warm  enough but its far more comfortable when vaping heavily.

Another failing of the original design was the heavily irritating noise that was produced, for some it may have been entertaining but to others it was an annoying distraction. The Turbo V2 is not that noisy. There is still a slight whizzing on its most wide open air flow setting but its not that noticeable.

The fan does rattle somewhat but its not especially loud, the crackling from your juice spitting and hitting the walls of the chamber is louder. With the air flow heavily closed down the sound is unlikely to trouble anyone.

The only issue I find is that at high wattage like a lot of RDA’s it gets extremely hot. If Tobeco want to consider a Version 3.0 then a good idea would be to at least double up the bottom heat sink.

I would also like to see Tobeco introduce a single coil option for users who prefer it. It wouldn’t be hard to achieve either, just add another blade to the top assembly.

Is The Turbo V2 Worth It?

Yes it certainly is. What I appreciate here is that Tobeco have taken a design that had potentially good ideas and refined it to the point where it achieves what it originally meant to do.

For a authentic, well machined, quite flavoursome, fog machine of a RDA this is certainly worth considering.

Final Thoughts

I found the original Turbo to be a well machined RDA that tried to innovate but was in the end flawed and nothing more than a gimmick.

The Turbo V2 is superior in every respect. The manufacturer has taken the criticism of the V1 on board and improved their design to the point where it now is a unique and very worthy RDA. I actually rather like it.

The Good:

  • Effortless draw thanks to the fan
  • Huge vapour production
  • Far more compact and aesthetically pleasing than the V1
  • Deep well
  • Decent flavour
  • The vape is noticeably cooler at high wattage compared to other RDA’s
  • Previous safety concerns have been addressed
  • Well machined and reasonably cheap for an authentic RDA

The not so good:

  • Dual Coil only
  • RDA gets very hot at high wattage

Tobeco Technology Company Limited based in Guangdong, China and should be quite well known to most vapers. Tobeco typically manufactures replicas of existing products but recently has started to produce some of its own authentic designs. In collaboration with Ohm Nation U.S.A., Tobeco has designed the Turbo. This RDA is quite unique because it incorporates a fan which allegedly boosts vapour production.Tobeco Turbo review

Box Contents

  • 1x Turbo Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer
  • Stainless Steel heat sink incorporated 510 drip tip adapter
  • Spare O-Rings
  • Spare Screws
  • 22mm Pyrex Drip tip
  • A warning card stating that highly acidic juice may break down the fan material
  • 1x blue screwdriver

Look and Build Of The Turbo

This is certainly a well machined and reasonably nice looking RDA. It is a lot taller than most due to needing to include the fan. This RDA does not have typical air holes but instead has a “OM” symbol which I believe is in Sanskrit, laser etched on to both sides of the main barrel. The included Pyrex drip tip is of the wide bore variety larger than most but not as large as a Chuff Cap. The edges are smoothed off nicely and it is comfortable to use.

RDA Specifications

  • 304 grade Stainless Steel
  • Square Centre Post, which is designed to prevent spinning
  • PEEK quality insulator
  • Negative posts milled into the deck
  • 5.5mm juice well
  • Heat sinks
  • Adjustable airflow control

The RDA breaks down into the following components:

  • One piece deck and incorporated heat sink
  • The main barrel with the laser cut air holes
  • The fan turbine mount. The mount itself is stainless steel and the fan is made form heat resistant polycarbonate. Fins protrude from the fan surround and these are used to control the airflow
  • The Pyrex drip tip or the 510 drip tip adapter top piece

The included spares are reasonable and everything is packaged nicely in a gold coloured box.Turbo RDA By Tobeco and Ohm Nation

My Thoughts

Firstly this RDA is very easy to build and the deck is of a typical size. The screws are good quality and I am happy to report that there were no problems fitting or trapping wire. The well is also deep enough and typical of most RDA’s.It is important to stress that this RDA is solely for a dual coil set up.

The airflow does not support a single coil. Just for the purposes of covering all the bases I did try a single coil and taped over the the air hole on one side. It was lacklustre to say the least, flavour was OK but vapour production was poor.

So moving on and using it purely as a dual coil as intended I tried a variety of builds with 26 AWG (0.4mm) and also with 24 AWG (0.5mm) wire. Resistances used were 0.8 ohm, 0.5 ohm and 0.2 ohm. Please be extremely careful if attempting very low builds, always know the limits of your device and batteries and know your Ohms Law. Stay safe everyone.

So as I’m sure you’re all wondering how does it vape? Well to be fair its OK, I feel it compares to most average RDA’s. In terms of flavour its nothing fabulous so this is certainly not going to suit any flavour chasers. That’s not to say the flavour is bad, it just seemed to be middling.

As for vapour production it certainly does put out some clouds. Though the strange thing is that the clouds are only dense in places and in parts the vapour is quite thin. I suspect the circulation of the fan itself causes it to dissipate in this fashion.

Now for the noise, yes you read that correctly. When drawing on the Turbo there is this whizzing sound which reminds me of a home computer fan operating at top speed. It is somewhat distracting and I suspect there will be many who take issue with it. Depending on your own personal sense of humour it may even amuse you, however the overall feeling this user is left with is that this RDA is as much of a poor man’s musical instrument as it is a dripper.

The whizzing sound is at its most extreme when the airflow is fully opened up but thankfully can be reduced. Closing down the airflow does reduce it but that’s actually defeating the object of this being a cloud chasing RDA, so I guess you’ll learn to live with it or you won’t.

Experimenting with the Turbo I did notice that you can actually take very slow draws without putting in the kind of effort that would typically be needed for the average lung inhale and still put out a lot of vapour.

As to the question whether its putting out more vapour than other cloud chasing RDA’s I find that somewhat debatable. I would say its comparable to a good RDA with a large Chuff Cap. All the fan is essentially doing is circulating the vapour so personally I don’t feel it actually achieves anything beyond making an annoying sound, which sadly makes this something of a gimmick.

I am also mindful of possible safety concerns, the fan itself may break down eventually and come loose and given the diameter of the Pyrex drip tip it could end up in your mouth.

I found very minimal leaking with this RDA but the Pyrex drip tip does lead to heavy condensation build up. This is not a RDA for those out and about.

Given the constantly spinning fan and with the addition of the heat sink I did find that this RDA was a cooler vape than others at very high wattage but I don’t think that’s a massive benefit.

Tobeco Turbo Review Conclusion

While I think its nice to see a company try to devise new ideas, they don’t always pay off. In some respects the Turbo feels like something that may have been a half hearted concept which has given the entire thing a gimmick quality to it. Its a bit of a let down and its unfortunate because the device is actually very well made and I suspect some people may still enjoy it for its quirky fun factor. Other negatives are simply that it only supports dual coil and the flavour is nothing to write home about.

It is however reasonably cheap at around £25 which is a good price for an authentic RDA.

Pros

  • Well made
  • Potentially cooler vape at high wattage
  • Good vapour production
  • Decent enough spares
  • Relatively cheap

Cons

  • A fan that quite honestly achieves nothing
  • Very noisy unless airflow is heavily closed down
  • Average flavour
  • Possible safety concern with the fan
  • There are far better RDA’s out there
