SXmini are expanding the popular Puremax range with the Puremax Q!

puremax q in hand

I’ve been a big fan of the original Puremax since I reviewed it back in 2024, using it on an almost daily basis. Plus the Puremax 2 near enough hasn’t left my side since I got that in for review too.

In my opinion, the Puremax and Puremax 2 deliver the most flavourful vape that you can get from a pod kit, with the added bonus of a dry hit free experience. Read our reviews to find out more!

The Puremax pod mods aren’t the only ones we’ve been fortunate to review from SXmini, we’ve also taken a look at the SXmini Mi Class Pod Kit and the SXmini Vi Class Pod Kit in the past.

Unfortunately – as this has not been officially released at present – there is no info on the SXmini website and hardly any vendors are showing this for Pre-order.

What Can We Expect From The SXmini Puremax Q?

SXmini’s Puremax Q is the latest addition to the Puremax family of pod kits. Building on the foundations laid by the original Puremax and the recently released Puremax 2.

The Puremax Q runs on the latest YiHi SX255J chipset and this boasts the latest version of PURE anti-dry hit technology.

sx mini puremax 2 pure tech
Pure tech overview (Puremax 2 is pictured in image)

PURE anti-dry hit technology prevents dry hits and overheating by using temperature control. Thus providing a consistent vape that is both cleaner and safer. Temperature is modulated in precise curves, allowing a whole range of flavours to be unlocked with your e-liquids.

By keeping the cotton un-scorched and free of dry hits, the lifespan of your pods increases. Also by ensuring that the vape doesn’t overheat – battery life is also extended too.

SX Mini Pure Max Pure tech

Another new feature with the latest version of PURE is the Low Liquid Pre-Alert. This gives you a short vibration to let you know that your e-liquid is running low in your pod. This saves you from having to remove the pod to check.

Full compatibility with the PX, PX Pro and PX Pro 2 Cartridge pods allows you to choose from a wide range of different vaping options. The Puremax Q is compatible with the latest PX Pro 2 0.4ohm version, along with the existing 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm and 1.2ohm versions.

sx mini puremax 2 pod options

You get the option of a wide bore drip tip for restricted direct lung (RDL) vaping or a narrower bore one for mouth to lung (MTL) vaping. We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vape Styles. If neither of those options take your fancy then you can use any 510 compatible drip tip!

SX Mini Puremax 2 drip tips

Out of the Puremax range, the Puremax Q boasts the biggest battery capacity of them all. It features a built in 1500mAh battery designed to power through your vaping sessions.

Finally, there’s also the ability to customise your vape. You get power presets offering up to 30W of output power depending on the resistance of the pod used and the ability to adjust the airflow. You can also choose to vape via auto-draw or by manually pressing the power button.

Many thanks to SXmini for sending the Puremax Q in for review!

So, let’s have a look at what the Puremax Q has to offer over its predecessors! As always, all views are my own…

Design & Build Quality

Whereas the Puremax and Puremax 2 were more of a pen shaped pod mod, the Puremax Q goes for a box shaped design, that takes design elements from both of its predecessors.

puremax v puremax q

It measures 59.87mm x 51.3mm x 19mm and has more of a stealthy profile to it. It fits within the palm of my hand nicely and I barely notice it when popping it into my pocket.

puremax q black

On one half of the device (where the PX pod sits) almost looks like a Puremax has been cut in half! This section also features the power button and four LED indicators underneath it.

puremax q front view

Also you will find the adjustable airflow slider on the side and the charging port at the base.

puremax q usb port

The second half of the device houses the 1500mAh battery, which is a bump in capacity compared to the original Puremax and Puremax 2. There’s also a lanyard ring here too, if you fancy wearing a bit of SXmini bling around your neck.

pure max q top view

As with the Puremax devices before it, PX Cartridge pods connect via prongs and stay locked in place during use. You won’t find any pod rattle here.

As to be expected from an SXmini product, the build quality is absolutely premium. This feels robust and solid, as well as absolutely looking the part too. There will be a range of different colours available to choose from on launch as well.

Quick Start Guide

How to Fill the Pod

The Puremax Q is compatible with all PX series of cartridge pods from SXmini. The kit comes with the latest PX Cartridge Pro 2 version, redesigned with a juice flow control to eliminate leaking.

puremax q pod

Before filling the pod, you need to lock the flow of e-liquid to the cotton in the coil. The pod has been designed so that you can’t actually open the filling port cover without locking the juice flow control first.

This also comes in handy when getting on a flight, as you can lock the juice flow control to prevent leaking from the pod due to the change in pressure! Also, if you aren’t intending to use your Puremax Q for a while, you can lock the juice flow control to prevent over-saturation of the cotton in the coil.

  • To lock / unlock the juice flow simply twist the mouthpiece (drip tip).sx mini puremax 2 pod lock
  • After locking the juice flow control, slide up the filling port cover on the side of the pod.
  • Pop the nozzle on your e-liquid bottle into the filling port and give the bottle a squeeze.
  • Slide the filling port cover back down and open the juice flow control back up to allow e-liquid to flow to the cotton.puremax q fill port

SXmini recommend that when you are filling a new PX Cartridge Pro 2 you fill it to the brim to ensure the cotton expands and creates a seal. You should also leave the pod for 2-3 minutes before vaping to allow the cotton to fully absorb the e-liquid.

When you change your pod, don’t forget to retain the drip tip!

Replacement packs of pods do not include a replacement drip tip, so if you accidentally throw it away you will need to get a new one. Also there are different size drip tips included in the original kit. The larger one is for RDL vaping and the smaller one is for MTL vaping.

Operation

Whereas the Puremax 2 introduced a screen to the Puremax series for the first time, the Puremax Q uses the same system as found on the original Puremax, whereby options are adjusted via button presses.

button puremax q

  • Five clicks of the power button turns the device on and off.
  • Three clicks of the power button switches between auto draw and dual mode. Dual mode allows you to also use the power button to fire the Puremax Q.
  • Four clicks of the power button enters power selection mode

Output Selection

With power selection mode, you choose between four power output presets based on the resistance of your coil. The selected preset is represented on the power LEDs underneath the power button. These are:

  • 1.2ohm pod: one light is 11.5W, two lights is 12.5W and three lights is 13.5W
  • 0.8ohm pod: one light is 14W, two is 15W, three is 16.5W and four is 18W
  • 0.6ohm pod: one light is 15.5W, two is 18W, three is 20W and four is 22W
  • 0.4ohm pod: one light is 22W, two is 24W, three is 26.5W and four is 30W

Charging

A charging port is located at the base of the device and a Type-C USB charging cable is included in the kit.

puremax q usb port

The Puremax Q charges at 5V/1A, which is down on the 5V/2A charging present on the Puremax 2, but it doesn’t feel like it charges particularly slowly. I certainly haven’t had to wait too long for it to charge back up from flat to full!

How Does The SXmini Puremax Q Perform?

Included in the box is a 0.6ohm PX Cartridge Pro 2, and the Puremax Q is compatible with all PX pods including the new 0.4ohm PX Cartridge Pro 2.

puremax q pod base

SXmini generously sent over all of the PX Cartridge Pro 2 variations, so I got to try out the 0.4ohm, 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm and 1.2ohm versions with the Puremax Q.

PX Cartridge Pro 2 Pods

To maximise flavour and performance, PX Cartridge Pro 2 Pods feature an SS316L mesh coil wrapped in organic cotton.

These have been updated over the earlier PX series pods to include a juice flow control system, designed to eliminate leaking. And this really does work too, as my experience with these pods has been a leak free one.

The pods will wick anything you can throw at them too!

0.4ohm Pod

This is the newest pod in the PX Pro Cartridge 2 range and it is only compatible with the Puremax Q and the Puremax 2, this one won’t work in the original Puremax.

Since I tried this pod out when I reviewed the Puremax 2, it has been my favourite one in the PX Pro Cartridge 2 range.

It is a pure restricted lung hit pod, designed for use at the higher end of what the Puremax Q is able to put out.

Flavour wise, it is absolutely phenomenal, excelling at delivering all of the flavour notes present in my e-liquids. Complex flavour blends really shine in this one, with a slight warmness to the vape.

A true flavour beast of a pod!

A minor gripe with using this pod is that the Puremax Q will only output up to a maximum of 30W. The device is listed as being capable of outputting up to 35W, which is a shame as I get some excellent results with it in the 32-35W range with the Puremax 2.

0.6ohm Pod

The 0.6ohm pod is another one designed for restricted direct lung vaping and it offers a slightly cooler vape than the 0.4ohm pod.

It is no slouch in the flavour department though, providing an outstanding, flavoursome vape, making some of my favourite complex tobacco blends really shine.

Even though it is aimed at restricted lung vaping, you can vape mouth to lung with this one too after you have closed the airflow down!

0.8ohm Pod

The 0.8ohm pod offers quite a similar vape to the 0.6ohm one, though I do feel that this pod is better suited to mouth to lung vaping.

I actually like to vape this one with the power turned up and the airflow closed down, to get a warm mouth to lung vape from it.

This has been my preferred pod to use when vaping 20mg nicotine salt e-liquids.

1.2ohm Pod

For people that like a tight mouth to lung vape, this is the pod for you! You’ll also get the best battery life when using this pod too, with the Puremax Q lasting days before needing a recharge.

This pod works best with the airflow shut right down, delivering a cigarette styled draw. Really good for high strength nicotine salt e-liquid and tobacco vapes!

PURE Anti-Dry Hit Protection

Originally debuting on the Puremax, PURE Anti-Dry Hit Protection received an upgrade on the Puremax 2. It now also includes a Low E-Liquid Pre-Alert, with the upgraded version featured on the Puremax Q.

This is an automatic temperature control technology that pulses the cotton and detects when it is dry. Stopping you from getting a dry hit and scorching the cotton in your coil.

front view puremax q

With Low E-Liquid Pre-Alert, there’s also a small vibration given off by the device when the pod is running low on e-liquid, so you know when it is time to top it up.

Though whereas the Anti-Dry Hit Protection is consistently good at stopping dry hits from happening, the Low E-Liquid Pre-Alert isn’t quite as consistent. There have been a few instances where the pod has started to run low and I haven’t got a vibration, just the Anti-Dry Hit Protection kicking in when it is empty!

Pod Lifespan

PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods just seem to go on absolutely forever. I have had a 0.4ohm one running in my Puremax 2 for a month now with no signs of flavour degradation!

These really do last longer than any other pod on the market that I have tried, the lifespan is exceptional.

Airflow

The airflow adjustment slider looks to have been lifted straight off of the Puremax 2, which is no bad thing at all, as the old adage goes ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’!

puremax q airflow

What you get here is very smooth airflow adjustment and the placement means that this can be easily done just by using your thumb.

Airflow options range from a restricted lung hit right down to a cheek suckingly tight mouth to lung hit, suiting all of the available PX pod options.

Plus once you have set your airflow, it stays in place with no accidental adjustments happening.

Battery Life

Out of all the Puremax devices, the SXmini Puremax Q boasts the biggest battery capacity out of the lot, with a 1500mAh built in battery.

This means that this is the first Puremax device out of the lot that actually gets me through an entire days worth of vaping and even has a little spare at the end.

Even the 0.4ohm pod at full output power still lasts me a whole day!

Pros

  • Dry hit free vaping experience
  • Best in class flavour from the PX Pro 2 cartridges
  • Phenomenal pod lifespan
  • No leaks!
  • Small form factor
  • Very good battery life
  • Excellent build quality
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Need to remove the pod to fill it up
  • Vibration for the low liquid pre-alert doesn’t always work
  • Lanyard ring is a little unsightly
  • Max output power is listed as 35W, but no pods take advantage of this

Final Verdict

With the Puremax Q, SXmini have taken cues from both the original Puremax and the newer Puremax 2. Distilling these into a box mod shaped pod mod that delivers an outstanding vape.

Where the Puremax Q wins out over the Puremax and Puremax 2 is on battery life. This has a 1500mAh battery, larger than the 1050mAh on the original and the 1300mAh on the Puremax 2, giving you a touch more vaping time.

I’m a fan of the box shaped design as well. This feels a bit more discreet than the others and it is very pocket friendly too, with a lightweight design that still feels robustly made!

puremax q design

Of course, one of the key drivers of the outstanding performance that the Puremax Q provides are the excellent PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods.

Genuinely, out of all the many different pods that I have tried, these offer the very best flavour delivery as well as a true dry hit and leak free vape.

As a bonus, these last for absolutely ages as well, which saves you from having to constantly purchase new pods! Being better for your wallet and the environment too!

I’ve got to say, I’ve been really impressed with the Puremax releases from SXmini. Offering a best in class pod mod vape that really does set the standard for others to follow. I hope that SXmini continue to evolve this range long into the future!

Many thanks to SXmini for sending the Puremax Q in for review!

SXmini have released the successor to the outstanding Puremax refillable pod system, with the aptly named SXmini Puremax 2!

SXmini Puremax 2 both colours

From a personal perspective, the SXmini Puremax has been one of my favourite refillable pod systems of all time – thanks to the absolutely superb flavour it delivers! I’ve been using the ones that I own on an almost daily basis since I first got my hands on it early in 2024.

So naturally, I was extremely excited to try out the Puremax 2!

As well as the original Puremax, SXmini have released a couple of other pod kits in the past. Notably the SXmini Mi Class Pod Kit and the SXmini Vi Class Pod kit, both of which we’ve been lucky to review.

What Can We Expect From The SXmini Puremax 2?

SXmini changed the pod system game with the release of the Puremax and have now released the Puremax 2 boasting a whole suite of significant upgrades!

sx mini puremax banner

Of course, a new SXmini device means a new SXmini chipset. The Puremax 2 boasts the latest SX304J one, featuring the latest version of PURE anti-dry hit technology.

PURE is a temperature control-based vaping technology that prevents dry hits and overheating, providing a cleaner and safer vape. You get a consistent vape each time and by modulating temperature in precise curves, a whole range of flavours can be unlocked.

sx mini puremax 2 pure tech

PURE also extends the battery life and the life of your pod by keeping your cotton un-scorched and dry-hit free. PURE technology runs automatically on the Puremax 2 with no set up required!

Not only does it guard against dry hits, but the Low Liquid Pre-Alert gives off a short vibration to let you know that your e-liquid is running low in your pod. Saving you from having to remove your pod to check.

sx mini puremax 2 refill alert

PX Cartridge pods receive a boost with the PX Cartridge Pro 2. Boasting a juice flow control system to guard against leaks.

There is a new 0.4ohm version to go alongside the 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm and 1.2ohm pods.

sx mini puremax 2 pod options

Like to fine tune your vape? Well the Puremax 2 boasts a variable wattage power output range of 5-35W, adjustable in increments of 0.5W.

And the redesigned airflow control offers mouth to lung and restricted direct lung vaping options. We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vaping Styles.

Design & Build Quality

After unboxing the Puremax 2 the first thing I noticed about it was just how much bigger this is compared to the original Puremax.

sxmini puremax v puremax 2 in hand
Left original Puremax, Right Puremax 2

You can see from the photo that I have taken that the Puremax 2 is somewhat larger!

Puremax v puremax 2
Left original Puremax, Right Puremax 2

This isn’t really something that concerns me at all and I don’t feel that the Puremax 2 is an ungainly size. Yes the top of it pops out above my hand but I hardly notice the device in my pocket when carrying it around.

sxmini puremax 2 in hand

Another noticeable addition is the large 0.96″ TFT colour screen, which offers up some theme customisation options.

sxmini puremax 2 screen

You can choose from preset backgrounds present on the device. Or by using the SX-Link (sold separately) and a computer, you can take advantage of the SXi Tools software to upload your own wallpapers and store up to four on the Puremax 2!

It’s a nice little touch that allows you to personalise your device.

Above the screen is a good-sized power button, which I find my thumb rests naturally on when in use. This is used for navigating the menu and for firing the device, though you can switch that function off if you aren’t a fan of it.

sxmini puremax 2 button

Much like the original Puremax, the PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods connect via prongs present at the top of the device and stay locked in place. No rattling around here!

sx mini puremax 2 pod and mod

Overall, I feel that the build quality of the Puremax 2 is absolutely top-notch and a cut above the original Puremax, which was a solidly built device itself.

Quick Start Guide

Filling the PX Cartridge Pro 2 Pod

A complaint with the original SXmini Puremax pods was that these had a tendency to leak especially when the Puremax had not been used for a while.

SXMini Puremax 2 eliquid view

SXmini acknowledged that, and redesigned the pods a couple of times to eliminate leaking. The latest edition being the PX Cartridge Pro 2 pod and you get one of these included with the Puremax 2 kit.

SXMini Puremax 2 drip tip

These feature a juice flow control system, so before filling/refilling the pod you need to twist the drip tip to ‘lock’ the flow of e-liquid to the cotton in the coil.

sx mini puremax 2 pod lock

  • Slide up the filling port cover on the side of the pod
  • Fill the pod with your e-liquid of choice.
  • Slide the filling port cover back down and rotate the juice flow control to allow e-liquid to flow to the cotton in the coil.SX Mini Puremax 2 fill port

If you are filling up a new pod for the first time, SXmini recommend that you fill the pod to the brim to ensure the cotton expands and creates a seal. Make sure to leave it for 2-3 minutes before vaping.

You can also lock the juice flow control before flying to avoid leaks caused by pressure change. It is also advisable to lock it if you aren’t intending on using the Puremax 2 for a prolonged period of time to avoid over-saturation of the cotton in the coil!

Also, when changing your pod, don’t forget to retain the drip tip when disposing of the old pod. Replacement packs of pods don’t include a new drip tip!

Menu Options

For a pod system, this device boasts a suite of different options!

  • Firstly, to lock and unlock the device just press the fire button three times.
  • To change the power output, press the fire button four times. Then just press the fire button to keep adjusting the wattage in 0.5W increments. When you are done either wait a couple of seconds to lock in your selection or take a puff.

To access the menu, press the fire button five times in quick succession. Then press the fire button to scroll through the options or hold the fire button to make a selection. The menu options are:

  • Turn off – pretty self explanatory there
  • Auto Draw – this allows you to set the device to auto draw only (take a puff to fire), fire button only to vape or dual mode to use both auto draw or fire button interchangeably to vape. I personally leave this on auto draw only as I can’t stand fire buttons on pod systems.
  • Pre-Alert – this allows you to change whether low e-liquid level pre-alert vibration is on or off, it is set to on as standard.
  • Themes – choose from different wallpapers and themes for your device, you can also upload your own using the SX Link USB dongle.
  • Exit – takes you back out of the menu

Weirdly, charging the device resets the puff counter entirely. I couldn’t find a way to switch this off either.

It’s not something that bothers me as I don’t keep a tab on my puffs, but it will irk people that do.

Charging

On the base of the Puremax 2 is the charging port and a charging cable is included in the box.

sxmini puremax 2 usb port

When the device is charging, a battery percentage is displayed on screen so you know exactly how far along the charging process is.

The SXmini Puremax 2 is compatible with 5V/2A fast charging, which makes for some pretty rapid fire charging times. I’ve found I can charge this from flat to full in under 40 minutes!

How Does The SXmini Puremax V2 Perform?

With the Puremax V2, you get a 0.6ohm PX Cartridge Pro 2 included within the kit. However going off the box it seems like you can also purchase a Puremax 2 kit that also includes either a 0.4ohm, 0.8ohm or 1.2ohm PX Cartridge Pro 2.

I can’t see any of those options available with some UK retailers that I’ve checked out however, only the 0.6ohm version. So perhaps the UK is limited to the 0.6ohm kit only, but I might be wrong!

You can purchase the 0.4ohm, 0.8ohm and 1.2ohm pods separately in packs of two, but do remember to keep hold of those drip tips when throwing away a used pod!

SXmini very kindly sent over all four variations of the PX Cartridge Pro 2, so I’m going to talk a little bit about the pods and how I got on with each of them…

SX Mini Puremax 2 pods sent

PX Cartridge Pro 2

PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods feature a SS316L mesh coil system wrapped in organic cotton, to provide a pure tasting flavour experience.

As mentioned above in the ‘Filling the Pod’ section, SXmini have made some improvements to the PX Cartridge to eliminate leaking, such as the inclusion of the juice flow control present on the Pro 2 version included with the Puremax 2.

SX Mini Puremax 2 pod base

These adjustments have made for a truly leak free experience with this device. I’ve not even had so much as a drop of condensation to wipe off in the couple of weeks that I have spent with the Puremax 2.

PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods are compatible with the original Puremax, aside from the new 0.4ohm one.

Older PX cartridges are compatible with the Puremax 2. Handy if you own the original Puremax and have some of those lying around. But with the improvements that SXmini have made with the Pro 2 versions I couldn’t recommend using the older versions over these!

The lifespan with these pods is exceptional. I haven’t got through a single one yet and they still taste as good as they did on the day I began vaping them.

Thanks to the PURE anti-dry hit technology, I can vape my pods to near-dry, which is handy when it comes to switching flavours. I’ve gone from sweet fruit blends to a custard in the same pod for example and not had any issues with the flavour.

I’ve been running a lot of different e-liquids through these pods, from fruit blends packing a lot of sweetener to deep, rich NET tobaccos and they have handled these with ease. I have even tested out up to 70% VG based e-liquid and had no issues with wicking!

I could average around a month with the older PX Cartridges in the original Puremax and I’ve no doubt that the PX Cartridge Pro 2 will be in the same ballpark. Especially given that I am a couple of weeks into using the pods with no sign of flavour degradation at all.

0.4ohm Pod

SXmini recommend that the 0.4ohm pod is used in the 25-35W range for optimal performance. So this is the pod to use if you want to take full advantage of the maximum power output of the Puremax V2.

It is actually the only pod that you can vape over 25W with the Puremax 2 as the device will not allow the others to go past that!

It is also not compatible with the original Puremax device however the 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm and 1.2ohm PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods are.

This is purely a pod for restricted lung vaping, if you vape mouth to lung you’ll want to consider the 0.8ohm or 1.2ohm pods.

Honestly, right from the first puff this pod just blew me away with how good the flavour is. My favourite complex dessert and tobacco e-liquids were absolutely singing in this!

I was getting all the undertones and flavour notes from my e-liquids, delivered smoothly and consistently. I really can’t fault the flavour at all. This has to be the most flavoursome vape from a pod system that I have had yet.

I have to say that this was my favourite pod out of them all, in fact this is my favourite pod to date!

0.6ohm Pod

The 0.6ohm pod is the one that comes with the Puremax 2 and this is recommended for use in the 18-25W range.

It gives you the opportunity to vape restricted direct lung (at the higher end of the above power range) and mouth to lung as long as you are vaping at under 20W, otherwise it starts to get a bit too warm and intense above that.

I prefer to vape restricted direct lung and found myself using this more in the 23-25W range.

Flavour wise, again this is a fantastic experience. The vape is a touch cooler than the 0.4ohm pod, but this still makes my e-liquids really shine and gives me an incredibly tasty vape.

It’s a great pod to start your Puremax 2 experience off with and means that mouth to lung and restricted direct lung vapers are catered to right out of the box.

0.8ohm Pod

With the 0.8ohm pod, you are looking at a power output range of 15-20W.

This pod vapes similarly to the 0.6ohm one, though I feel that it is better suited to mouth to lung vaping. I found I got the best results from this one at 18W and with the airflow set to around a third open.

Again absolutely no complaints with the flavour here, it’s spot on!

If you prefer a looser mouth to lung draw then this will be the pod for you.

1.2ohm Pod

SXmini’s recommended power range for this pod is the 12-15W range, putting this squarely in mouth to lung territory.

You are going to want to close the airflow right down with this pod to get the best flavour results from it, an airier draw really doesn’t suit it.

This is the pod you’ll want to use if you like a tight, cigarette-styled mouth to lung vape.

PURE Anti-Dry Hit Protection

PURE Anti-Dry hit protection was a feature that made its debut on the original Puremax and really helped to set this device apart from the others.

It’s a form of automatic temperature control technology that is actually able to detect when the cotton in the pod is dry, preventing you from getting a nasty dry or burnt hit.

Genuinely, it is a game changer!

The technology is present on the Puremax V2 and is as good as it has ever been, accurately detecting when the pod is empty and preventing the device from firing.

SXmini have actually improved this even further, as you now get a Low E-Liquid Pre-Alert.

Basically, if your pod is starting to run low on e-liquid, the Puremax 2 will give off a short vibration to let you know that it you are getting close to needing to refill the pod.

This is pretty consistent, but there have been a couple of instances where the vibration hasn’t kicked in. Maybe it did and I didn’t notice it!

Power

Right here is one of the more powerful refillable pod systems on the market. The Puremax 2 outputs from 5-35W, adjustable in increments of 0.5W. A big change from the preset power outputs present on the original Puremax device.

This gives more flexibility in fine tuning your vape, you can really dial in a setting or mix things up.

It’s incredibly consistent as well. I couldn’t detect any fluctuations in power from the first puff on a fully charged battery right down to the last puff on a near-empty one.

Airflow

Airflow can be adjusted using the airflow adjustment slider located on the side of the device.

SX Mini Puremax 2 airflow

This feels smoother and even more responsive than the original airflow control did on the original Puremax. I haven’t had any issues with the airflow becoming accidentally adjusted in my pocket.

You have the option to vape with a nice airy restricted lung hit, if you like to blow some clouds. Or you can dial this right down to a tight mouth to lung hit, with everything in-between!

I feel that the airflow adjustment on the Puremax 2 is massively improved over the original, you can really finely adjust the airflow here if you so wish.

Battery Life

Compared to the original 1050mAh battery found within the Puremax, you get a bit of a capacity bump here up to 1300mAh. Probably to accommodate all of the new features found within the Puremax 2!

Much like the original however, this does struggle to last me through a full day’s worth of vaping, meaning I’ll carry a second device out and about with me.

The 0.4ohm pod is the worst offender when it comes to battery life. I’ll get an average of about six hours out of this at 30-35W, with the 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm pods getting a couple more hours.

No issues with the 1.2ohm pod though as the lower power output would have me sailing through a whole day and then some!

Thankfully, the fast charging present within the Puremax 2 mitigates this somewhat as the device gets charged back up in no time at all.

Pros

  • Market leading flavour
  • Mouth to lung and restricted lung vaping options
  • Consistently dry-hit free
  • No leaks or condensation either!
  • PX Cartridge Pro 2 pods last absolutely ages
  • Comes with a choice of two drip tips, or you can use your own
  • Premium build quality
  • Full of features and customisation options

Cons

  • This is pretty large for a refillable pod kit!
  • Low e-liquid refill alert doesn’t always kick in
  • Battery will struggle to get you through the day when vaping heavily
  • Charging the device resets the puff counter

Final Verdict

I waxed lyrical about the original SXmini Puremax when I reviewed it a year ago and boldly declared that refillable pod systems were starting to catch up to more feature-rich vaping kits.

Well, SXmini have taken this up a notch with the Puremax V2…

I’ve been vaping for over ten years now and I can happily say that a device like this stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the more ‘premium’ (in terms of price anyway) gear that is on the market.

There’s a lot to be said about the convenience of a refillable pod system like this one. You can get rebuildable atomiser level of performance with none of the fuss of having to build your own coils for the device.

You can also adjust the vape how you see fit. There’s variable wattage and adjustable airflow, plus the PURE dry-hit protection makes your vaping experience virtually worry-free. Not to mention the nice touches to personalise your device such as being able to add your own wallpaper to the screen!

The Puremax 2 even also lets you know when your e-liquid is about to run out, so you don’t even need to pull the pod to check. That is convenience right there.

Finally, the most important aspect for a device is the flavour that it provides. With the PX Cartridge Pro 2, I get some of the most, if not THE most, flavourful experiences that I’ve had from a refillable pod system.

Seriously, the flavour is absolutely next level!!

We are just at the start of 2025 and already we have a refillable pod system that is setting the standard for others to follow!

A big thank you goes to SXmini for sending the Puremax 2 over for review, this is available to purchase in the UK now!

SXmini is a brand synonymous with innovation in the vaping industry and one of their newest releases is the SXmini PureMax Vape Kit!

sxmini puremax colour options

They originally made a name for themselves by manufacturing high end mods offering almost infinitely customisable ways to tailor your vape. As well as using the well-loved YiHi chipsets that pioneered Temperature Control technology.

This isn’t the first SXmini foray into pod systems. We’ve previously had a look at the SXmini Mi Class Pod Kit, as well as the SXmini Vi Class Pod Kit.

Also recently reviewed on Ecigclick are the SXmini G Class V2 Mod, SL Class V2 and SX Nano if you would like to get a flavour for other systems that SXmini offer!

Back in 2015, I was absolutely enamoured with the SXmini M Class mod, to the point that I actually ended up owning four of them at one point! So when I was told that I was being sent the SXmini PureMax for review I was very excited indeed!

Will I also be suitably enamoured with the PureMax?

Let’s have a look…

Visit the SX Mini website for more information!

What Can We Expect From The SXmini PureMax Vape Kit?

You can expect an easy plug-and-play vaping kit featuring refillable pods, which have a 2ml capacity in TPD regulated areas and a 4ml capacity in areas not under TPD regulations.

sx mini pure max banner

One of the biggest selling points of this kit is the YiHi SX303J chipset featuring PURE anti-dry hit technology. The chip pulses the power to the coil around 200 times per second to regulate the temperature and prevent dry hits from happening. Which will also increase the lifespan of your pods!

Basically the Pure tech combines with the Stainless Steel (SS316L) mesh coil in the pod and is able to sense the temperature of the coil around 200 times per second. This is a kind of automatic temperature control.

SX Mini Pure Max Pure tech

Not only does the SX303J chipset guard against dry hits, it includes buck-boost to ensure that power output is constant and a consistent and safer vape is delivered.

puremax options

Sine waveform technology allows for fluctuations in vape warmth, delivering a broader spectrum of flavours as fruit and cream flavours tend to evaporate at different temperatures.

Four power presets allow you to intensify the flavour or extend the battery life.

The fixed coil pods themselves are available in 0.6ohm PX25, 0.8ohm PX20 and 1.2ohm PX25 versions, to cater for Restricted Direct Lung (RDL) and Mouth To Lung (MTL) vapers. We tell you what the terms MTL and RDL mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

Dual plug silicone safeguarding technology guards against leakage from the pods.

An airflow adjustment slider is found on the side and auto-draw technology means you don’t have to press a button to fire the PureMax.

Design and Build Quality

The SXmini PureMax measures in at 94mm x 26mm x 19mm and weighs around 56g.

I was sent the Quantum Gunmetal, Quantum Black and Blue versions for review.

side view sxmini puremax vape

On first impressions, this is a nice device to hold in the hand and ergonomically designed as well as being pocket friendly. The button and the airflow slider can be used with one hand and the sliding door over the side filling port can easily be flicked up with your thumb.

Design wise, it’s all class with this kit! With the Quantum versions I received sporting a lovely subtle laser etched graphic scheme on the body. At the base, a transparent viewing window allows you to view a portion of the YiHi SX303J chipset, just above the USB-C charging port at the bottom.

puremax close up

The airflow slider features pretty smooth travel, allowing you to easily customise the airflow.

Just below this are four LED’s that light up green when adjusting the power setting and also when vaping giving a visual indicator as to how much battery charge is left.

When taking the device out of the box for the first time, a helpful sticker is present over the LED’s displaying the power output levels.

airflow sx mini puremax

Just under the LED’s you’ll find the power adjustment button. This is an auto-draw device so it won’t fire by pressing the button.

PureMax pods have a built in Stainless Steel 316L coil. They are side filled, have a removable drip tip and are tinted Black.

There’s a handy minimum e-liquid level on the side of them. They connect to the PureMax device via two large prongs located inside the top of the PureMax, with a secure fit.

Overall, this is a really well made kit, that absolutely looks the part too. It gives off the appearance of a premium pod kit and didn’t feel cheaply made to me.

Nothing on the kit rattles, the finish has held up during use and not picked up scratches which is a big plus point in my book!

Quick Start Guide

You get a very in-depth instruction manual included with the PureMax, I wouldn’t expect any less from an SXmini device!

There’s also instruction cards that give you further information on the PURE technology, how to maintain the device, usage of the device and what the power presets can offer.

filling instructions

You’ll want to fill the pod to begin with and I’ll cover this in the section below.

To turn it on, press the side button three times and the LED’s will flash to indicate that the device is on.

Four power presets are present and to adjust these you hold down the side button, then press the button to scroll through the different presets. Minimum power is indicated by a single LED and maximum is indicated when all four LEDs are illuminated.

puremax cartridge wattage

Airflow is adjusted by moving the adjustment slider on the side, pushing it all the way down opens the airflow fully, having it all the way up tightens it right down.

When taking a draw on the device, or during charging, battery level is indicated as follows:

  • Four LED’s = 75-100% charge remaining
  • Three LED’s = 50-75%
  • Two LED’s = 25-50%
  • One LED = 0-25%

If you have triggered the anti-dry hit protection, the LEDs at the side will flash four times and the PureMax will not fire. When this happens make sure there is e-liquid in the pod!

Filling the Pod

At first, I was a bit confounded as to where the filling port was. I actually had to consult the instruction manual to find out!

So, on the side of the pod, the filling port cover is marked out with two raised lines.

how to fill the sx mini puremax tank

Slide this up with your thumb and hey presto, the large circular filling port is revealed.

Tilt the pod slightly downwards and stick your bottle nozzle in there, giving the bottle a squeeze to fill the pod. Just take care not to overfill as this can easily be done.

filling the sxmini puremax

If a new pod – once filled leave the e-liquid to sit in the pod for 5-10 minutes then vape away.

Also and I can’t stress this enough, make sure you remove the drip tip and keep hold of it when disposing of an old pod!

Replacement packs of PureMax pods do not come with a replacement drip tip so if you mistakenly get rid of the old one, you’ll have to get yourself a new drip tip.

Thankfully the pods are compatible with any 510 threaded drip tip so you don’t necessarily need to order the PureMax one.

Charging

A USB Type-C charging port is located at the base of the device and a charging cable is included in the box.

Plug it into the device and into a power source and leave it to charge until the LED lights at the side go out.

The SXmini PureMax charges at up to 1A charge rate and it really doesn’t take long to charge up at all, depending on the power source used.

How Does The SXmini PureMax Vape Kit Perform?

The SXmini PureMax comes with the 0.6ohm PX25 pod.

PX20 0.8ohm and PX25 1.2ohm pods are also available, both of which also have an SS316L Stainless Steel mesh coil built in.

puremax close up

Normally, I would have a grumble about the dark tinting on the pod preventing you from seeing how much e-liquid you have life in the pod. But with the PURE anti-dry hit technology, this isn’t really an issue as the technology prevents dry hits from happening.

sxmini puremax pod and battery

This also extends the coil lifespan too. I have been using the SXmini PureMax daily for over a week now and I am still yet to get through a single pod.

Anti Dry Hit Technology

The PURE anti-dry hit technology isn’t just a gimmick, this works exactly as intended. I have never experienced a single dry hit with this system and believe me I have tried.

I have even attempted to vape a brand new pod out of the box without filling it up and the chipset detected it each and every time, preventing the device from firing. Seriously, this is something that needs to be looked at by all pod system manufacturers!

Flavour

When it comes to flavour, this is a pod system that is up there with the very best that I have tried! In fact I would go as far as saying that it rivals the Vaporesso XROS Pro in my opinion, which has been my previous pick of the bunch.

You can use up to 70% VG e-liquid in this without any issue.

Vaping tobacco-based e-liquids was a particular highlight in the SXmini PureMax.

One of the first things I did was fire up Manabush Powwow Sauce in one kit using the 0.6ohm PX25 pod and Chiricahua Sun in a second kit with the 0.8ohm PX20 pod.

sxmini puremax in hand

I then cranked up the power output to the max.

Vaping these liquids really seemed to bring out the tobacco base. Along with the biscuit and custard notes in Powwow Sauce and the nutty flavours that are present in Chiricahua Sun.

I have been vaping these two e-liquids for years using all sorts of different set-ups, yet this seemed like a whole new experience.

This really shines with complex and layered e-liquids, bringing out all the notes in them, but it also delivers authentic flavour when vaping a straightforward fruit flavour too.

Type of E-Liquid to Use

Of course, with this being a pod system, Nicotine salt-based e-liquid is absolutely perfect. Using the IVG6000 range in 20mg strength as well as Unreal Desserts nic salts gives me a very good nicotine hit that keeps me going during work!

Sweet Caramel Vanilla Custard from Choppa Vapes was another highlight, the PureMax really accentuating the Caramel and Vanilla Custard notes.

If you are a restricted direct lung vaper, you’ll want to opt for the 0.6ohm PX25 pod and open up the airflow. Though even with the airflow fully open the vape is still a little bit tight even for a RDL hit.

puremax design

The 0.8ohm PX20 pod can deliver a restricted direct lung airflow. But I feel that this works better when closing the airflow down a little which will give you a loose mouth to lung hit.

The 1.2ohm PX25 delivers a perfect mouth to lung airflow with the airflow closed down. I actually liked to turn the power right up with this which delivers some really intense flavour.

I will say that it is worth experimenting with the four power settings regardless of which pod you are using, as these can really change your vape by increasing and decreasing the intensity.

The SX303J chipset regulates the output, ensuring that it is consistent and also prevents it from getting too warm. I didn’t experience any spitback or leaking at all during testing.

Battery Life

One of the very few downsides of the SXmini PureMax is that the battery life isn’t the best.

It has a 1050mAh battery built in, but the SX303J chipset must really give it a workout. I will struggle to get through a whole day with this, especially when using the 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm pods. So I’ll take two PureMax kits out and about with me, or a second pod system as a backup.

I can get through a whole day with the 1.2ohm pod however!

Pros

  • NO dry hits!
  • Temperature control ensures that pods last ages
  • Easy plug and play system with outstanding performance
  • One button operation
  • Customisable vape with adjustable wattage and airflow
  • Absolutely excellent flavour for a pod system
  • Mouth to lung and restricted direct lung airflow options
  • Sleek and pocket friendly design
  • Robust build quality
  • Feels like a real premium product

Cons

  • Not the best battery life
  • Airflow control isn’t the smoothest
  • Can easily overfill the pod if not careful
  • No spare drip tip included with replacement pods – remember to retain the original!
  • Only one pod included in the kit when a lot of other pod systems have two

Final Verdict

I think we are starting to see pod systems blurring the lines between pod kits and more function rich vaping kits such as box mods when it comes to performance. Especially with offerings like the SXmini PureMax and the Vaporesso XROS Pro to name but a couple of examples!

Rather than being back up devices or a step up from a disposable – pod systems are really starting to punch above their weight and are becoming viable main carry options for a broad spectrum of vapers.

Certainly, I tend to just carry a couple of pod systems around these days rather than a bulky box mod. I’ve definitely been converted by the performance of these and the convenience factor!

I can’t stress enough about how good the PURE vaping technology present on the YiHi SX303J chip is.

You get a consistent vape from start to finish, with no fluctuation in power and most importantly sweet, sweet dry hit protection. That really is a game changer and something I would love to see other manufacturers adopt in the future if possible!

This is a pod system that I will continue to use well into the future and will happily be buying more pods for the SXmini PureMax once my existing ones run out. Especially as these are readily available through online UK retailers.

This pod system may be a touch more expensive than others you may see, but I truly believe that it is worth every penny for what you get here.

What To Expect From The SX Mini SL Pure Mod

Sadly the SX Mini website is pretty poor when it comes to showing off their products.

So I do apologise for the lack of images in this post! Plus no vendors seem to be listing this item either and the SX Mini social media has nothing.

However I did download the User Manual to get a bit more info…

sl pure components

If the “Pure” technology has you scratching your head I quote from Neil’s Vi Class review…

“‘Pure’ mode is really a standalone function.”

“It works very much like temperature control mode. The chip detects when the cartridge has run out of E-liquid by sensing the temperature of the coil.

It then reduces power to the battery which in turn prevents cotton overheating and scorching – known in vaping as a dry hit.”

So in summary it helps to prevent dry hits.

Also more details of the Pure Tech can be found in this video from the SXmini YiHi YouTube channel.

The YiHi SX733J chip also provides Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, Temperature Control, SXi-EQ (Custom Curves) and “Taste” modes to play with.

The output is specified as 5-100W but I think that will depend upon the battery installed.

Talking of batteries, this is able to use a single 21700, 20700 or 18650.sl pure black tang

A 1A USB Type C port is provided for charging if required.

All of your vaping data is viewable on the 0.96in IPS Colour screen.

A standard 510 connection is housed on the top of the mod so you can swap tanks and rebuildables. However I am not sure if the Pure mode will work with coils of other materials or from other manufacturers.

There is a mention of a tank being included in the kit. According to the instruction manual it is the Hatsu tank and appears to be compatible with the VT Coils used in the Vi Rod and the Vi Tank. But other than it being 24x40mm there are no other details about it!

Today I’m looking at a device from a high end vape manufacturer with a low end price point. It’s the new SX Mini Vi Class pod kit.

Please note: This product is not available in the UK as it doesn’t meet TPD regulations. So only available for readers outside TPD regulated countries.

SX Mini Vi Class AIO pod kit hand check picYihi introduced the SX Mini brand to the world back in 2014, the year I quit smoking. They were, and still are known for high end vaping devices such as the SX Mini G Class and SX Mini SL Class series of single and dual battery mods.

Powered by the Yihi circuit board, the screen menus are often convoluted yet remain competitive with the popular Voopoo GENE and EVOLV DNA chips for their stability and reliability.

SX Mini logo‘If you can think of it, we will make it’. That’s the Yihi philosophy and the chip has been adapted in many forms to suit pod kits and even disposable vapes.

Having won various awards with an enthusiastic team devoted to innovation and development, Yihi now export to more than 90 countries from their headquarters in Dongguan City in China.

Just like this prolific manufacturer, the Vi Class AIO pod kit has a story of its own.

.. Let’s turn the page.

Visit SX Mini for more information

What Can We Expect From the SX Mini Vi Class Pod Kit?

The Vi Class uses a single 18650 battery and utilises the latest SX505J Yihi chipset. It very much takes on the style of a Billet Box device. Instead of a shorter Boro tank we get a cartridge (or pod) with a non-replaceable 0.4ohm sealed mesh coil.

But that’s just the start of the story.

Not only are there proprietary pods, the kit is compatible with tanks such as the BP Mods TMD Dot, Veepon Tita RBA and Yachtvape Pandora DOT RBA.

How cool is that?

It’s all made possible with an adaptor kit (sold separately). It literally bridges the gap in height with those tanks and uses a plate for connection with the battery section.

SX Mini Vi Class adaptor kitSo if you’re a DIY enthusiast wondering what to do with your warn out DOT AIO device look no further.

The SX Mini Vi Class is also a cheaper option but it doesn’t end there.

Yihi have also manufactured a Vi tank that’s capable of using replaceable stock coils. It’s available in 4ml but there’s also a 2ml tank for those in Europe and the UK.

It currently uses three proprietary coils. The VT40 and VT60 mesh coils are designed for a DL (direct lung) vape and the VT20 caters more towards MTL (mouth to lung) enthusiasts. We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

Once again, the Vi tank is sold separately.

For a pod kit I’d say that’s a whole lotta versatility!

The SX Mini Vi Class is available in 8 colour schemes. Pick from Pink Pearl White, Fire Yellow White, Blue Pearl White, Blue White, Purple Coral White, Red White, Aqua Yellow White or Black White.

Because of the versatility there’s lots to unpack. We’ll delve further as we go along.

SX Mini Vi Class Pod Kit – Design and Build Quality

Battery Section – Outer Sleeve

The outer sleeve is made from Aluminium alloy which really helps to keep the overall weight down. It has a spray coat finish and the Purple Coral White gradient colour scheme looks very effective.

Side of Vi Class AIO pod kit image 1Both sides have smooth, curved edges and the device feels comfortable when grabbed by my fat fingers.

You can swap the outer shells and buy a replacement, ideal if you want to change colour or yours is looking a bit tatty.

Starting at the top. The frosted DTL mouthpiece is installed and has two built in O-rings. It’s not the tightest fit and is proprietary because it serves another purpose.

Two lugs on either side grab the threading of the retaining nut. Turning the mouthpiece and screwing down clockwise will help lock the installed cartridge into place.

A MTL mouthpiece is also included.

The fire button and screen display is placed on one side of the battery section.

I’m not a lover of thumb firing because it means constantly shifting fingers to find it. Although responsive it feels rather mushy when pressed.

The tiny screen deserves a special mention. It’s bright and pin sharp. Even with my failing eyesight it was easy to read all the information.

Simply plug the USB charger in while the device is on to reset the puff counter.

The underside of the Vi Class plays host to the type C USB charging port. It’s suitably recessed against potential damage.

I always endorse the use of a dedicated external charger when using 18650 batteries. I just feel it’s a safer and more efficient way of dealing with them.

A USB to PC adaptor cable is available for updating the chip firmware. You guessed it. An optional extra.

Below this there’s a 12mm wide airflow slot.

Battery Section – Inner

It’s very easy to remove the outer shell of the SX Mini Vi Class AIO. Simply push on the base of the battery section to slide it off.

The inner section houses the adjustment buttons so you will need to remove the outer shell to make adjustments.

The sleeve is held in place by tiny ball bearings on either side. So you’ll hear a reassuring click as it slides back into position.

Tip! Push the negative end of the battery up against the spring loaded negative terminal to allow clearance when installing.

Cartridge Section

The 4ml cartridge comes with a P40 0.4ohm stainless steel mesh coil sealed inside.

I must say it’s solidly built.

Silicone stopper on the SX Mini Vi Class AIO cartridgeIt’s quite sizeable too and for this reason I’m happy to refer to it as a cartridge over a pod. Made from a toughened PCTG material, it’s crystal clear allowing for total E-liquid visibility.

A rather flimsy Silicone stopper is mounted onto the side but the plug is thick enough to adequately seal juice inside.

The opening will accommodate bottle nozzles of various sizes so filling shouldn’t be an issue.

There’s a heavily camouflaged adjustable airflow slider built into the base of the cartridge. It slides open around 5mm, encouraging a few direct to lung tugs.

Quick Start Guide

How To Operate the Vi Class Pod Kit

NB: The device does not automatically switch on once a battery is installed.

The adjustment buttons are located on the inner section with the outer shell removed.

  • Press the fire button five times to turn the device on
  • Press the fire button three times to lock or unlock the device
  • While the device is on, press the fire button five times to enter mode select screen
  • Use the adjustment buttons to select ‘mode’ and press the fire button once
  • Choose between Watts and Pure mode by pressing the fire button once

In variable wattage mode use the adjustment buttons to increase or decrease power. Holding the button down will speed up the process. Once the maximum of 60W is reached the device reads ‘Max Output’.

While in wattage mode, pressing the fire button rapidly five times will bring up other options. You’re now able to access temperature control mode (between C or F) as well as returning to Pure mode.

Custom Curve‘ mode is also available. Choose between neutral, soft or hard, four other built in curves or up to three of your own creation.

Built in power curve setting on SX Mini Vi Class AIO
One of the built in power curve settings. You can create up to three of your own.

‘Pure’ mode is really a standalone function. When you install a cartridge for the first time, use the ‘Lock New’ function to lock the resistance of the coil.

It works very much like temperature control mode. The chip detects when the cartridge has run out of E-liquid by sensing the temperature of the coil.

It then reduces power to the battery which in turn prevents cotton overheating and scorching – known in vaping as a dry hit.

.. I’m very much looking forwards to testing this mode!

How To Fill the Cartridge

  • Gently remove the silicone plug from the side of the cartridge
  • Locate the fill port and squeeze E-liquid into the cartridge chamber
  • Filling the P40 cartridge of the SX Mini Vi Class AIOPush the silicone plug back into the cartridge ensuring a firm seal

Let the E-liquid soak into the cotton wicking for around five minutes before vaping.

How to Install the Cartridge

If this is the first time of use, unscrew the mouthpiece together with the retaining screw counter clockwise.

NB: The cartridge is designed to fit one way. Look for the lug at the top and make sure it’s facing outwards.

How to install the cartridge of the SX Mini Vi Class AIO

  • Push the cartridge up and in at a slight angle

There will be a gap between the cartridge and the connecting pins.

  • Tighten the retaining screw and mouthpiece back down (clockwise) onto the top of the battery section

It takes around seven or eight full turns. Once complete the cartridge will make full contact with the connecting pins.

Install an 18650 battery in the way previously described and slip the sleeve back over the battery section.

How Does The SX Mini Vi Class Kit Perform?

I used Digbys Inca e-liquid to test the P40 cartridge. It’s a 70VG/30PG ratio with 3mg freebase nicotine included.

I made a bee line for Pure Mode and set the power to 40W. The airflow slider on the base of the cartridge was wide open.

The coil was feisty and crackly from the very first press of the fire button. What’s more, power was instant. Don’t expect any ramp up time.

The flavour was absolutely phenomenal!

P40 cartridge of SX Mini Vi Class AIOAll the rich, nutty Tobacco notes cascaded from the exhale and the Caramel tasted milky and creamy. Those blended Tobacco notes hung around the palate long after the vape. That proved the effectiveness of the stainless steel mesh coil.

I must admit, vapour production knocked me for six, too. I wasn’t expecting clouds of this magnitude. All part of an effective semi restrictive lung hit.

Protracted inhales didn’t result in stinging of the lips – that’s how I knew I was vaping semi restrictively and not too tightly.

I noticed no turbulence during inhale and it felt like the coil was easily handling the 70VG/30PG juice ratio.

Other Airflow Restrictions

There’s a significant difference when the airflow slider is closed half way. It now becomes a restricted lung vape. Yet the mouthpiece still doesn’t heat up. Impressive.

For me, personally the flavour isn’t quite as good.

It’s still more than acceptable but the flavour notes seem more squished together on this setting. I couldn’t separate nutty tones from sweet Tobacco and the Caramel was pushed further back than usual.

Vapour production was as awesome as before and that goes for the inhale too – silky smooth.

When reducing airflow back to the bare minimum I reverted to the MTL mouthpiece and dropped power to 35W.

Fantastic!

I was getting the mouth to lung equivalent of the direct lung vape in terms of flavour. All the individual notes pulled through and the tongue reaped all the benefits.

It’s a classic MTL vape too. Just the tiniest amount of airflow was allowed to enter via the slider. I got the restriction right – first time.

Vapour production instantly reverts to a more discreet volume and the inhale is at its quietest.

Pure Mode

What can I say?

I’m blown away by its efficiency. It works an absolute dream. Yihi have placed a lot of importance on Pure mode. So much so that it’ll be featuring in all future devices.

Having taken 7 years of research and development, I’m here to tell you it’s time well spent.

As soon as the cartridge ran out of E-liquid I received an onscreen message and power to the battery ceased. All I needed to do was refill and I was back in business, vaping again.

SX Mini Vi Class AIO No Liquid warningAt this point the battery was at about 50% charge.

It’s no secret I’m no fan of temperature control but Pure mode pretty much does the same thing. It’s an amazing feat on Yihi’s part.

All I needed to do was calibrate the coil as either new or old when inserting and that was it.

18650 Battery Performance

I got around 7 hours use from the external battery while semi restrictive chain vaping.

The 4ml cartridge was filled twice and by the close of business, I’d amassed 219 puffs.

There’s no real degradation to flavour as the battery depletes, either. I certainly didn’t notice any change in vapour production.

That coil was hitting hard right up to the last minute.

Pros

  • Amazing flavour and vapour production from 0.4ohm P40 cartridge
  • Power to the coil is instant
  • Pure mode works brilliantly
  • Lightweight and pocket friendly
  • Pin sharp screen visible in direct sunlight
  • All remaining E-liquid is viewable

Cons

  • Direct lung mouthpiece is a bit on the short side (subjective)
  • Having to remove sleeve to make adjustments to power, modes, airflow, etc
  • The fire button feels a little mushy (subjective)
  • Awkward to fill cartridge while sleeve is attached
  • Only one cartridge included
  • Need a Type C USB adaptor to update firmware (sold separately)

Final Review Verdict

The SX Mini Vi Class is an AIO I’m going to be using for a long, long time. It’s just a shame they’ve only included one cartridge. The same can be said of the firmware update cable which is also missing.

I guess Yihi left these out to keep the price competitive. And compete the Vi Class surely does. I’d go as far as to say the flavour surpasses that of some sub ohm tanks I’m in possession of.

It really is that good.

Vi is for versatility. It’s compatible with other manufacturers tanks, there’s a Vi cartridge that uses stock coils and future proofing is assured with a firmware upgrade cable.

But what makes the SX Mini Vi Class AIO really stand out is that Pure mode.

It’s no stretch to suggest that coil life will be significantly extended, given the way the Yihi SX505J chip continuously calculates its temperature. Adapting power to the battery accordingly.

So toxins from a dry coil no longer evaporate, medical grade SS316L is an allergy friendly material while every puff remains as flavoursome as the last.

Is this the end of the dry hit? I think so.

Now even a newer vaper gets all the perks of temperature control.

Yihi have played a blinder with their SX Mini Vi Class AIO pod kit and I thoroughly recommend it.

In for review this week we have the long awaited SX Mini G Class V2 mod. This is the second version of a mod that came out way back in 2016!

g class v2 poster

SX Mini have been hard at work on this, and despite the fact that it’s immediately recognisable as a G Class, there’s a lot of changes under the hood.

SX Mini have mainly been involved in box mods from the SL Class V1 and SX Mini SL Class V2 to the X Class plus even some pod kits including the Mi Class and MK Class.

What Can We Expect From The G Class V2 by SX Mini?

Right at the end of 2016 the original G Class came out. The chip inside was one of the first that could compete evenly against Evolv’s DNA board and it came with a full colour screen. Remember, this was before we had the C (colour) versions of DNAs.

SX Mini produced a few different version of the G Class, including some rather gaudy (imo) Gold versions.

6 years later we have the V2! From the outside the new version looks very similar to it’s predecessor, however they’ve changed a lot for the V2.

There’s a new chip with the latest temp control, in fact there’s now actually two chips running the G Class. One is dedicated to vaping, and the other runs the whole UI of the mod. They’ve also waterproofed the chips which should help if there’s ever an accident due to a tank leaking.

SX mini G Class V2 Product ShotThere’s also been a big change to the battery compartment, no longer a battery door on the base, we now have replaceable side panels.

Finally when it comes to updating firmware, there’s no need to plug it into your computer. This mod can handle all of that over it’s built in Wi-Fi, you just need a phone that can read a QR code to set it up.

One big elephant in the room is the fact that this mod is using 18650 batteries, rather than 21700’s. I’m a big believer in 21700 batteries, but I still feel they make most sense in single battery mods. In a dual battery mod, I’m quite happy to continue to use 18650’s and have a slightly smaller mod, but your mileage may vary!

There are plenty of user modes to keep you amused including Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, 4th Gen Temperature Control, Bypass, Intelligent Curves and Smart Boost.

This was sent over for the purpose of review directly from SX Mini (thank you) as usual, this will not affect my review, and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

Design and Build Quality

At the moment, the G Class V2 only comes in two different colours. Matte-Black (which I received) and Space-Gray.

However SX Mini have a history of producing many different varieties of the original G Class, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see some limited editions arriving in the future. Not to mention the fact that the battery doors are now interchangeable, so there is likely to be a range of options in the future!

Body

The oval shaped body is very comfortable in the hand, it’s not a heavy mod. But it feels reassuringly solid. The fire button is place centrally, with the gorgeous screen, beneath it. Below that is your 5 way joystick and the USB port that will allow charging at 2A.

g class v2 componentsIn one of the biggest changes to the construction of the original G Class, you no longer access your batteries with a hinge bottom.

SX mini G Class Doors RemovedThis time the batteries are covered on either side by magnetically attached panels.

Battery Doors

There’s a nice little divot on the back of the mod to easily get your fingernail in to lift them up. Polarity indication is clearly marked inside, and the bottom contact is spring mounted to allow you to easily pop in your batteries. The addition of battery ribbons means they’re also really easy to remove.

SX mini G Class DivotThe two magnets on each door are very strong on here, so I was never worried about jostling them loose. They also slot in to the front of the mod with a couple of tabs.

SX mini G Class V2 Battery Tab DetailThe doors themselves have a very subtle pattern on them, I believe it’s a phoenix? But as it’s slightly glossy black on top of matte black, it’s not at all garish. In fact I really like how they add a little more interest to what could have been a boring bit of the device.

SX mini G Class V2 Detail of Battery DoorWhen you get your mod, the doors that will be on it are made of an Aluminium Alloy, these are pretty solid and they certainly contribute to the weight of the device. However unlike the previous G Class, with the ability to change your doors, you’ll be able to massively change the look of the mod.

SX Mini sent over a couple of battery doors so I could see this in action, when I first looked at them I thought there wasn’t much difference. And on the outside there isn’t, they have the same pattern, except the one that comes with the mod (at least on my example) has a bright silver trim and the other a gunmetal.

SX mini G Class V2 Comparison with different battery panelsBut where they are different is what they’re made of, the replacement doors are injection moulded Plastic.

SX mini G Class Different DoorsThis not only cuts down noticeably on the weight, but should mean that replacement doors don’t cost too much in the future, and I’m really interested to see what range of options SX Mini comes out with!

Looking at the images SX Mini provide of the G Class V2, it looks like it might be the plastic doors that actually come on the mod, as they match the colouration for the black mod that I received. The good news is that they don’t in any way feel “cheap”, and feel just as sturdy, though lighter, than the metal ones.

Top Plate

The 510 connector is centred in the middle of the mod, and despite being a relatively small mod in the hand, SX Mini say this will take up to a massive 30mm tank without overhang.

SX mini G Class V2 Top PlateIn fact this is only the diameter of the 510 plate that is secured by two Torx screws. As you can see, there is still some body in front and behind this plate. So you can actually go up to a 33/34mm diameter tank, before it starts to noticeably overhang the body of the mod itself!

SX mini G Class V2 With big tankUnfortunately I don’t actually own any tanks that will really challenge this. So I have taken a picture of it using the Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V2 which has a 30mm diameter. As you can see, there’s still a little bit of space, though it does perfectly match the 30mm plate.

Base

The base is held on by three Torx screws, in white there is the name of the mod, the serial number, and all the regulatory marks. One notable “exception” is that there are no vent holes.

SX mini G Class V2 BaseThis is because in the event of a thermal event, the doors that cover the batteries will be the venting route, probably popping off to release the gasses.

The other oddity is that you get a little plastic sticker in the package. When I originally saw this I thought it might be a protector for the 510 plate. However as there’s no hole in it I quickly worked out it was for the base!

SX mini G Class V2 Applying StickerIt’s easy enough to apply, if you peel it back from one side, line it up, you can then just lay it down and protect the base a little for when you put it down. Does it really matter? No. But it’s a nice attention to detail to keep your mod looking good.

SX mini G Class V2 Base with StickerBack Panel

On the back of the device is a rather large “SXmini”, this lights up when you’re vaping. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it, because obviously when you’re using the mod, you’re never really going to see it yourself. However if you’re using it in the dark, then your hand is going to light up so everybody else does!

SX mini G Class V2 Light Up LogoAs with many things on this mod though, it’s up to you if you want to customise it. You can change the default brightness of the logo (including having it turned off totally) and with “Night mode” you can even set it to have a different brightness level between set times of the day.

Screen and Controls

The screen on this is a lovely 1.3″ TFT IPS screen, it’s bright and colourful, and also set into the mod a little, so you’re unlikely to scratch it. There’s a few different themes and you can see there’s quite a lot of detail on the screen.

g class v2 screenAbove this is the metal hexagonal fire button. It’s quite a firm press that you need to engage it, but it’s nice and tactile and has a good click to it.

SX mini G Class V2 Front ViewBelow the screen is the 5 way joystick, up/down/left/right and click in. This is also made of metal, and though I thought it might be hard to get on with, it’s really responsive and easy to use.

SX mini G Class V2 Button Side View

It does protrude out of the mod a little though, so I would recommend locking this button if you’re putting it in your pocket.

Charging

There’s good news and bad news about charging this mod. The good news is that it will charge at a reasonably fast 2A using an USB A to C cable like the one provided.

The bad news is that it will not charge with a USB C to C cable. As almost all of my cables now are straight USB C cables, this is a bit of a pain, and means that if I want to charge this on the go, I’ll always need to remember to bring an A to C cable.

Main Controls and Getting Started

5 clicks on the fire button will power your mod on for the first time.

When you first attach a new tank to the mod you’ll be asked to lock in the resistance. This is most important for temp control.

Quick Menu/Shortcuts

You’ve got two layers to the menu, the first is the quick menu which you access by the central joystick. There’s a number of shortcuts that you can activate without diving into it properly

  • Hold Up/Down changing the wattage/temp/voltage (dependent on mode)
  • Hold Right – Change the colour of the font
  • Hold Left – Change the background image (if you’re in a theme that allows it)

If instead you press in on the joystick, you get to access all the various quick menu settings. These are:

  • Wattage / Temp / Voltage (mode dependant)
  • Memory settings
  • Curves
  • Mode – Wattage, Voltage, SS316, SS430, Ni200, Titan (Titanium), TCR and Bypass
  • Main Menu

As well as accessing the main menu this way, you can also press the fire button 5 times if you know that’s where you want to go.

Main Menu

Once in the main menu, you’ve got access to your other settings split over two pages.

  • Temp Limit
  • Puff Counter
  • Shutdown
  • Smart Boost
  • Wi-Fi
  • Tweaks

SX mini G Class V2 Main Menu P1

  • Themes
  • Language
  • Time & Date
  • Exit
  • Stats

SX mini G Class V2 Main Menu P2

Rather than going exhaustively through every option, I’m going to pull out some of the most interesting and useful changes further into this review. If you have any questions about specific options, feel free to ask a question via the comments and I’ll try to get back to you!

Lock/Unlock

Locking and unlocking the mod is done with 3 button clicks, however you can either lock the joystick, so disabling your adjustment buttons, but still allowing you to fire by clicking in 3 times on the joystick. This will be shown by a Red circle in the bottom right

Or you can lock the whole mod, by clicking the fire button 3 times. Doing this will show the clock and the lock icon.

In practise, I almost never locked the whole mod itself, as you need to press pretty firmly on the fire button. But I did find it useful to lock the joystick, especially if I was sticking the mod in my pocket.

Clock

And yes, as I mentioned above, you get a clock on this! There’s an option of 4 different clock faces, 3 analogue and 1 digital. On the digital one you can also change the background and the colour of the text.

SX mini G Class V2 Four ClocksSadly there’s no options for customising the analogue clocks. Hopefully in a future firmware update we’ll get more options.

How Does the SX Mini G Class V2 Perform?

I’ve used the G Class V2 now as my main mod for the past couple of weeks. I’ve tried a variety of different tanks on it, from smaller mouth to lungs, to big dual coil DL RTAs like the Oxva Arbiter RTA.

SX mini G Class V2 Handcheck

Navigating the Menus

The menu system in this mod takes a little getting used to, but once you have, I found it really easy to get around and change the settings.

The one thing that took me a while to get my head around, is the fact that you really don’t need to go into the main menu all that often. Once you tweaked some of the advanced setting to your satisfaction, almost everything you need can be controlled just with the joystick and the quick menu.

Battery

One negative thing that YiHi were known for on some of their older boards, was battery drain when the mod was left with batteries in it. There’s a couple of things that SX Mini have done to mitigate this.

For starters, you now have an “auto shut down” option. So you can set the mod to power itself off after a period of time that you set in the menu.

That’s all well and good, but as we all know, when your mod is “off” it still has to use a tiny amount of charge to turn itself on again when you press the fire button 5 times. It’s for this reason that I don’t think SX Mini really mean you to power down the mod all that often, to do so, it’s buried at the bottom of the main menu.

So does the battery drain when it’s left sitting there? I tested it by leaving it alone for a couple of days. I couldn’t leave it any longer as I have had to spend the rest of my time reviewing it. However, I left my batteries at 78% and 79% charge, when I picked it up again two days later? The percentages were exactly the same.

So no, parasitic draw I don’t feel is an issue. After this review goes live, I’ll run some longer tests (for a week) and I’ll update if I see anything notable.

Temp Control

Since it’s one of the things YiHi chips are known for, I couldn’t do a review on the G Class V2 without mentioning how it handles temp control. I’m not a diehard TC fan, but I’ve played around with it plenty over the years and like to use it from time to time.

When you first go into a TC mode, you’ll be prompted to lock your resistance, and also set the ambient room temperature. A 10 minute countdown will pop up on screen, but don’t worry it won’t use all of that. That’s just to make sure that it has long enough to get a stable reading, especially if you’ve been using something like SS in wattage mode previously and so it might still be a little warm.

SX mini G Class V2 Lock Resistance

In practise this always happened within 2 minutes for me, even if it was a coil I’d previously used in wattage mode.

As a quick test I popped and RDA on the G Class V2, stuck a TC coil in, wicked it up, saturated it, then let it burn dry until it wouldn’t fire.

As expected, the temp control kicked in at exactly the right time. The cotton was noticeably drying out, and was just starting to show a little bit of browning in the centre at the hottest part.

However temp control that works well, was pretty much expected for a YiHi board. So some of the interesting things actually live in the Temp Limit settings of the main menu.

SX mini G Class V2 Auto Resample

There are three settings that show some of the innovation that has been worked in to temp control.

  • Constant/Dynamic Temp Module
  • Auto Resample
  • Avg. Room Temp

The first one is probably the hardest to explain, as what it does is it uses the temperature that you set not as an upper limit, but as a guide. The idea being that based on the coil resistance, it will allow slight fluctuations in temperature over your set temp to make sure you get the best vape.

Auto Resample is one of the cleverest tricks, and probably really useful for people who often use temp control when they’re switching between different environmental temperatures. Because temp control is really just measuring the change in resistance of your coil, if you set you temp control up at room temperature, and then go somewhere really hot. The temperature, and therefore resistance, of your coil will change slightly.

What auto resample does, is it will take the resistance of the coil when the mod is put to one side and “idle”. So rather than locking in your resistance, it will allow it to change, but crucially it will only happen when you haven’t been recently firing the mod.

Finally the avg room temp, allows you to set what the average temperature is where you’re using the mod. By knowing this, it can get a more accurate reading of how the resistance is changing when you fire, and therefore get an even more accurate temperature control.

Wi-Fi

It’s certainly not the first mod to allow over the air updates, but SX Mini have done a really nice job with how they’ve handled it. Rather than trying to get an app on the app stores, the Wi-Fi settings are designed to hook your mod up to your router, and then you navigate an internet control panel on your phone.

SX mini G Class V2 Setup WIFI

When you switch Wi-Fi on you have to join the network that the G Class V2 creates. Once you’ve joined the network, a QR code will pop up on the mods screen, and scanning the code will take you to a page to see available networks and enter your WiFi password. Remember, this isn’t connecting to your phone’s internet, it requires you to have an internet connected network to connect to.

Once you’ve set it all up you have options to:

  • Update your firmware
  • Change your themes
  • Upload new wallpaper

SX mini G Class V2 Screenshots from Control PanelOne nice thing, is that the manual section isn’t just the manual that you get taken to when you scan the manual QR code. You also get some videos showing you things like the basic operation or setting up temp control. Really nice to have this all in one place!

One thing to note is that the WiFi chip inside the G Class V2 is that it uses a 2.4Ghz chip. That means it’s not the fastest to download updates. To test this, I updated all my firmware and themes.

In total it took it 6 minutes to download and update from the time I told it to apply the update.

One of the plus sides, unlike a DNA device, you don’t have to attach it to your computer to update the firmware. And by using a web browser rather than an app, SX Mini avoid having to get an app approved by the powers that be.

Smart Boost

Now obviously the mod has the usual range of curves available, I haven’t gone into them in any great detail in this review as there’s nothing revolutionary happening here. They are all percentage based, which means you can use the curve across different wattages.

g class v2 curvesHowever one little tweak is the “Smart Boost” functionality. Normally, a boost will front load the power delivery to your coil. This is especially useful for high density coils that take a while to get up to temperature.

Once they have been vaped once, you’re not going to need the boost again if you’re vaping on it continually, as the coil will already be heated. So Smart Boost allows you to only use the boost on the first draw, and then control how long you need to leave it alone, before it requires another boost.

g class v2 smart boost

I’ve tested this out with a few different tanks and it does the job really nicely. There’s definitely some experimentation you need to go through to work out what time to set it too (default is 30s), but once you get it dialled in, it performs beautifully.

Anything else?

One thing that I quite like, is that you can tell the mod what the CDR (continuous discharge rate) of your batteries is. This means that dependent on the wattage you set, and the resistance of your coil, the mod will warn you if you’re pushing the batteries harder than you should.

SX mini G Class V2 Battery CDRThis is found in the Tweaks section of the Main Menu. If he’s tested them, I will always advise using Battery Mooch’s estimated CDR, rather than whatever the manufacturer puts on them.

Obviously it’s always going to be an estimate, and in reality if you’re not sure how to build for your batteries, you should read up about battery safety and Ohms Law. So this is really just a “nice to have” type of feature.

SX mini G Class V2 Amp OverloadIf you raise the wattage so that the amps drawn are expected to be higher than the CDR of the battery, it will alert you by putting the estimated amps in red.

Pros

  • Great featured Temp Control
  • Waterproof Board
  • Changeable battery doors
  • Hugely configurable on device

Cons

  • Can be a little overwhelming at first if you dive straight into the menus!
  • 18650 not 21700 (subjective)
  • Only charges over USB A-C, not C-C cables

Final Review Verdict

So, that was the SX Mini G Class V2! Although this review is now over 3000 words, I’ve actually only scratched the surface in terms of the options you can play around with. This is definitely a fully featured device!

Temp control has definitely had a lot of love lavished on it for this upgrade. Especially the option to have the mod resample the resistance of the coil. I can understand why people might be worried about this, but in my testing I never ran into any issues.

The new design of the mod with the magnetic battery doors is also a welcome change. I really like how well they’re put together, and even though they’re only held on by two magnets, I never felt like they were going to come off. I’m also really keen to see what additional battery doors come out for this in the future.

Finally I will say this isn’t the easiest mod to learn your way around, especially if you’ve never used a YiHi chip before. But everything is laid out and accessible in a sensible way, it’s just a little different to what you may be used to.

Update:

I’ve since heard back from SXmini regarding the reason for it not charging over USB C to C, and it all comes down to safety. Unfortunately USB C as a standard is a bit of a mess, and it is “typically” used for much faster charging.

I’m not sure whether there is a way to restrict the charging current at the board level when the charger might be trying to throw up to 100W down the cable, but it all relates to the different charging protocols that USB C can support. Since USB C devices tend to charge at much faster speeds, there’s a risk to your batteries/mod/house if you were able to plug it into a 60W charger and leave it overnight (don’t ever do this with a mod!)

So no points knocked off for this (after all, safety is far more important than dealing with a little inconvenience) and as usual I would say that charging externally is the best way to go, using a good quality external battery charger.

Other things I like but ran out of space for!

  • Probably the first mod I’ve used where I actually like the puff counter. It has a daily puff counter, a manually re-settable one (like a trip odometer) and a total lifetime one.
  • It’s nice and easy to upload photos to use as wallpapers. Who doesn’t enjoy that?

Today I’m taking a look at the SX Mini SL Class V2. I’ve got history with Yihi and the SX Mini having purchased the original around three years ago. Yup! The upgrade has been a while in the making.

sl class v2 banner

The Yihi chip is as prolific as the Voopoo Gene or the Evolv DNA and like those, has its friends and foes. As to why? I couldn’t really say. I always think that as long as a Mod is reliable, efficient and carries out the tasks set upon it by the chip it’s doing the job.

It all began in 2014 when Yihi introduced the SX Mini brand to the world. It was a time of great enthusiasm and innovation. The team at Yihi were highly set on developing new ideas upon the world of vaping.

SL Class V2 hand check picIt wasn’t long before they were winning multiple awards and joining forces with the likes of renowned supercar company, Bugatti to produce the Bugatti e-cigarette which did nothing to harm their growing reputation.

Many established vapers will be familiar with the SX Mini G (red our the latest SX MINI G Class V2 review), T and X Class range of dual battery mods whereas the SL range relies on a single 18650, 20700 or 21700 battery.

So I mentioned that I’ve got history with the Mod. There was something the design that bugged the life out of me.

Let’s find out if the upgrade resolves the issue.

What Can We Expect From The SX Mini SL Class V2?

The chipset has been upgraded to the Yihi SX730J and includes a fourth generation temperature control suite. Now constructed from a durable zinc alloy, expect the Mod to weigh slightly less than the original.sl class v2 features

The same joystick control is used to navigate the menu functions. The display has been changed and the viewing window is larger.

Expect faster internal charging times as the SL Class V2 ditches Micro USB in favour of Type C.

The Mod is capable of handling sub ohm tanks, RDA’s and RTA’s of anything up to 28mm in diameter.

Don’t expect Buck Boost or Bypass mode with the upgrade. They haven’t made it across from the original SL Class.

SXmini SL Class V2 – Key Features

The Mod uses a single external battery. A 18650 can be used with the included adaptor, ideal for running coils with less demanded resistances. 20700 or 21700 batteries will take care of Stainless Steel or Nichrome coils when using temperature control.

With an output range of 5-100W, the SXmini SL Class V2 will be fully compatible with Sub Ohm Tanks, RTA’s and RDA’s.

There are multiple different user modes via an updated waterproof circuit board – including…

Three pre-determined power settings are incorporated, designed to boost flavour quality. There’s also an option of tweaking them to personal taste.

An IPS-Farb colour display now takes the place of TFT with the upgrade.

All the usual safety features are included such as reverse polarity, low resistance and low voltage protection.

The SXmini SL Class V2 is available in Mystic Grey, Gunmetal Tang, Copper Brown, Black Tang and the colour under review, Black Silver.

SXmini SL Class V2 – Design and Build Quality

As I’m already in ownership of the original, we’ll be taking a look at the key differences in design, build and overall performance.

Main Body

To begin with the SL Class V2 has a much more organic, free flowing design. The cylindrical exterior is enclosed inside a C shape frame and the board and screen no longer look like they’ve been bolted onto the front.

SL Class V2 comparison pic 4 side view image
Left = SL Class V2, Right = SL Class V1

This does mean the presence of a few Torx drive screws but they don’t affect the overall appearance. It’s a vast improvement, in my opinion.

I’m not overstruck on the “SXmini” plate that’s driven into the spine because it reminds me of a dog tag. I understand that it’s for branding but still an unnecessary inclusion.

SL Class V2 rear view image with logo

I received the Black Silver version. The tubing is smooth but also has a subtle wood grain texture running vertically.

There are fewer squared off edges to contend with now. Its less ‘Lego-like’ shall we say. This makes the upgrade much more comfortable and ergonomic during day to day use.

Knurling and Threading

The heavy knurling of the original has been dropped. In fact it’s absent around the 510 plate which is now smooth and polished. The spring loaded 510 pin is once again centre loaded and will accommodate the same atomiser sizes as before.

SL Class V2 comparison pic 3 top down image of 510 connectors
The SXmini SL Class V2 is a smooth operator in comparison to its older sibling

Now for my bug bear. The threading and action on the battery cap. I found it notoriously crunchy and difficult to thread on the original.

Much to my relief it’s been significantly improved on the upgrade. The cap isn’t as thick and incorporates micro knurling as opposed the large and cumbersome design of the original

SL Class V2 threaded battery cap comparisonThe ease of use is made possible by male threading on the cap itself. There’s less chance of stripping and it’s much easier to remove or replace.

SL Class V2 battery screw cap and threads image

The polished alloy finish on the battery cap mirrors that of the 510 connector plate. The cap also has the same number of venting holes as the original. Very pleasing to see.

SL Class V2 comparison pic 1 battery capFront Panel and Display

The fire button is more or less in the same position and roughly the same size and shape. The action of the SL Class V2 button is less spongy and makes a distinctly audible click when pressed.

Although the screen area looks bigger, both use a 0.96in colour screen. The screen on the original Mod was recessed which protected it from damage if dropped.

It sits flush on the upgrade so that’s a potential area of weakness in terms of build.

SL Class V2 screen comparison with OG image

The IPS colour display is considerably sharper, less blurred and easier to read. Useful for tired, weary eyes – like mine!

..In case you’re wondering IPS stands for In-Plane Switching. It simply means that colours appear more accurate under narrow viewing angles.

What has been recessed is the joystick button. It protrudes considerably less which should prevent getting caught up in a bag or pocket. Damage prevention also extends to the Type C USB charging port.

An improvement on the one hand – not so much on the other.

How To Operate The SXmini SL Class V2 Mod

Five clicks of the fire button will turn the device on. It’s not that simple when turning the device off, however.

  • Press the fire button five times. This will activate the menu screen.

Select ‘System Off’ before pressing the joystick button in. Once this has been done, the ‘shutdown’ option must be selected before the SL Class V2 will ‘thank you’ before powering down.

..Kind of reminds me of my PC. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not! lol

SL Class V2 shut down screen option

The menu screen also includes a host of other options.

  • Mode select – Select between wattage, temperature control or variable voltage
  • Puff counter – Display manual or lifetime count. There’s also the option to reset the counter
  • Tweaks – Alter the screen brightness, restore factory settings, adjust average room temperature, auto power (on/off)
  • Stats – This displays the firmware and version of the chipset
  • Show temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit
  • Screen timeout – Anywhere between 15 – 90 seconds

You can also access the menu screen by holding the joystick to the right for 3 seconds.

To lock or unlock the device hit the fire button three times. It is not possible to vape while the device is locked.

Push the joystick to the left to return to any previous screen.

Home Screen

SL Class V2 main screen display in wattage mode
The home screen in wattage mode

When the SL Class V2 starts up for the first time the home screen will display standard wattage mode.

From top to bottom, left to right the following information is displayed.

  • Battery meter
  • Current curve pattern
  • Battery percentage
  • Puff counter
  • Power mode (wattage, voltage or temperature control)
  • Installed coil resistance
  • Curve graph
  • Current voltage
  • Output current

Voltage Mode

Hold the joystick to the right for three seconds to enter the menu screen. Use the joystick to highlight the mode option and select V. Volt (variable voltage).

Press the joystick left to return to the home screen.

It’s not mentioned in the instruction manual so here’s how to adjust the voltage.

  • SL Class V2 how to adjust the voltage in variable voltage modeOn the home screen press the joystick button in.
  • Push the joystick up or down to adjust voltage. Wattage is shown in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and will also adjust in accordance to the applied voltage.
  • Press the fire button to lock the current voltage

It’s also worth mentioning the same method of adjustment applies to wattage and temperature control mode.

Smart Power Curve Mode

It’s possible to tweak power output to suit individual vaping requirements. To do this, push the joystick button down when on the home screen.

Select from Neutral, Soft, Strong or three user defined settings

  • While the text is highlighted in red, press the joystick button up or down to change the setting
SL Class V2 changing the initial power curve setting to strong
The power bars can be individually edited to suit personal vaping requirements using the SXi EQ settings.
  • Press the joystick button in to choose an option (text turns yellow)
  • Scroll down to exit or wait until the Mod automatically returns to the home screen

If using the predetermined settings, Soft mode will gradually increase the power from 75% to 100%.

The Neutral setting constantly holds power at 100%

The Strong setting boosts power briefly to 125% before returning to 100%.

Up Close And Personal With Power Curve

The SXi option allows you to personalise up to three power curves.

  • Press down on the joystick to enter the curves screen
  • Select one of the three SXi EQ options
  • Use the ‘edit’ option to begin making individual adjustments to each power bar
SL Class V2 SXi EQ mode personalised power curve settings image
Me messing around with the power curve for the SXi EQ1 setting.

A total of 20 bars can be adjusted between 0 – 150% power and each one represents 0.5 seconds of vape time.

Once the power curve has been manually applied the Yihi chip calculates the Overall wattage/power output.

Hit the fire button to return to the home screen.

Temperature Control Settings

SL Class V2 temperature control menu screenTo enter temperature control settings, press the fire button five times or hold the joystick right for three seconds.

Scroll down to ‘mode’ and select it by pressing the joystick in. Temperature control offers dynamic and constant wire settings. Dynamic allows the temperature to fluctuate slightly while constant maintains a strict temperature limit.

To start using temperature control mode the coil resistance must be registered and locked while in its room temperature state.

Having chosen or locked in either Ni200 or SS316L as a coil material the device will automatically return to the home screen after a few seconds.

Pressing the fire button or nudging the joystick left will have the same effect.

Under temperature control the home screen offers further tweaking.

  • Press the joystick button twice to select a cold, cool, normal, warm or hot vape. The voltage and temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit automatically adjusts.
  • The individual parameters for the above vaping temperatures can be tweaked further by pushing the joystick right.
  • On the home screen highlight the coil resistance to use a new or old one.
  • On the home screen highlight the coil material to quickly change between Ni200 or SS316L

SXmini SL Class V2 – How Does It Perform?

I don’t do temperature control as I don’t own any SS316L or Ni200 coils. For this reason I’ve omitted those tests.

Instead I tested the Mod in standard wattage mode first. That’s the default mode straight out of the box.

My Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RDA was used running dual Wotofo fused Clapton coils at 0.14ohm.

SL Class V2 running in wattage modeI was previously using a dual 18650 battery mod at 75W so tested the SL Class V2 at the same output. It had significant clout behind it when using a single Molicel 21700.

The performance was equally as good as the dual 18650 Mod I’d been using.

There was very little ramp up time using the Nichrome (Ni80) coils. The performance was excellent and I noticed very little degradation as the battery depleted.

In fact when switching to a high drain 18650 Vapcell K25 the same applied. The only thing of difference was the battery life itself. I managed 11 hours from the Molicel 21700 and five hours using the Vapcell 18650.

Variable Voltage Mode

Switching attention across to voltage mode, the chip was reading 3.25V as an equivalent to the 75W previously tested.

SL Class V2 running in voltage modeI personally think this mode improves on wattage for instantaneous output to the coil as well as overall power efficiency. The vaping temperature felt more consistent.

Flavour seemed to take less time to pull through. The heat generated from the coil was more consistent across longer inhales.

Voltage mode also made it much easier to find the desired sweet spot.

Power Curve Settings

I can’t say I noticed a great deal of difference between the Soft, Neutral and Strong pre-sets. I’m not likely to use Soft mode anyway because I prefer a swift ramp up when using an RDA.

SL Class V2 running in SXi 1 user defined power curve modePower curve settings are best suited to those that are going to make the most of the twenty bars available. The adjustments will be more significant over an increased inhale. My lungs just aren’t that strong anymore! lol

For those that are, I suggest increasing or decreasing across the full number of bars. For example, the pre-sets offer only a 2.5 second fluctuation in power. That’s not really enough to be of any effect.

So power curve does work well but over a longer duration – that’s just something to keep in mind.

Pros

  • More ergonomic and comfortable to hold than the original
  • The design has been radically improved
  • Battery screw cap threading is no longer an issue
  • Display is much sharper, clearer and easier to read
  • Improved battery management

 Cons

  • Erratic battery reading on occasion
  • Remains quite a heavy Mod
  • The chip gets confused between locking or displaying the menu screen
  • Functionality may take some getting used to (subjective)
  • Powering down is a drawn out affair

SXmini SL Class V2 – Final Review Verdict

It’s always the little things with me. Things that don’t get mentioned in instruction books. For example, being able to reset the puff counter while the chip retains the total number for the lifetime of the Mod.

It’s reassuring to see equivalent wattage whilst using voltage mode. For someone taking the leap across from standard wattage to voltage mode it’s ideal.

I love how the SX730J calculates required wattage when tinkering with DIY power curves.

That’s just the kind of attention to detail Yihi have provided with the SX730J chip.

I’m not the biggest fan when it comes to powering down the Mod. It’s been thrown in with the menu screen and since the menu screen can be accessed with a nudge on the joystick why not have the usual five clicks to turn the device off?

SL Class V2 front view imageThe biggest surprise for me was at how well the SXmini SL Class V2 handled an 18650 battery. It gave me a few hours more vaping time than I was expecting and performed remarkably well even during discharge.

The design, build and screen quality have all had an overhaul for the better although the weight is still there. It is a solid bit of kit, that’s for sure.

When it comes to performance there’s nothing I can dumb down about the Mod. Put simply it does the job and it does it reliably and consistently well.

These were the requirements I was looking for at the top of the review and the SXmini SL Class V2 hasn’t let me down.

That’s the main reason the Yihi chip will always have more friends than foes.

mk pro air bannerUsually SX Mini cater to the vapers with more expensive tastes with devices such as the SL Class, M Class and X Class. But lately they seem to be targeting the pod market with the Mi Class and the MK Class.

What To Expect From The SX Mini MK Pro Air Kit…

This is designed to be a reusable pod kit to appeal to those who want something simple for a price that rivals other pod kits.mk pro air features

Sadly the SX Mini website is not always the most informative so I will tell you all I know!

Firstly the mod is made from Anodised Aluminium and contains a 700mAh internal battery.mk pro air battery

The battery is charged via the USB Type C port but the charging rate is not specified other than it being “fast charge”.

As usual with SX Mini this device is controlled by a YiHi chipset – this time the “SX366M” and you simply inhale on the mouthpiece to activate the auto draw firing.mk pro air draw activated

LED indicator lights are provided but what they display is again not specified – hope they at least inform you of the battery charge remaining!

The pod connects to the battery via spring loaded magnetic connectors.mk pro air pod

The pod is refillable with up to 2ml of your own e-liquid via what looks to be a side fill port? I may be wrong!

You can replace the coil and there are 3 versions to choose from – M1 0.8ohm Mesh, M1 1ohm Mesh and M1 1.2ohm Mesh.mk pro air coils

A coil is included in the kit but again which one is not specified it simply says “MK Pro Air Mesh Coil”!

Sorry this is all a bit vague but I can only tell you what the manufacturers say on their website – and that isn’t much!

There are 5 colours to choose from : Red, Sunset Splash, Black, Aqua Splash and Blue.

The SX Mini MK Class & MK Pro Class Pod Kits are two new releases from the well-loved SX Mini brand.

mk class banner

SX Mini have pottered into the Pod Mod market in the past with the Mi Class kit which had very mixed reviews.

Will the MK Class range bring a pod kit which meets the usual SX Mini standard? Let’s have a closer look and see what they have to offer!

More Details On The SX Mini MK Class & MK Pro Class Pod Kits…

Sadly the SX Mini website is not the most informative of places. Even worse the MK Class kit is not covered at all.

mk pro class gunmetal
MK Pro Class in Gunmetal

The two different variants seem to have the pod as the main difference.

The MK Class has pre-filled disposable pods – again as this is missing from the SX Mini website completely I have no idea of any details of this. Also this version has a different chipset – the YiHi SX365. Only the SX Mini social media pages pay reference to this version at all.

mk class promo
One of the few references to the MK Class on SX Mini Social Media

So I am going to have to mainly look at the MK Pro Class version in this preview. Even then the details are pretty vague but I will do my best!

Firstly the device has a 700mAh internal battery which can be charged at up to a 1A charge rate. The charging port appears to be a Micro USB type located on the base of the mod.mk pro class black

Inside this version is the YiHi SX366 chipset but I cannot find any more details of this even on the YiHi website.

As mentioned above the Pro version has a refillable pod and you can replace the coils.mk pro class pod

The pod is made from PETG and will hold up to 2ml of your own e-liquid but the type and location of the fill port is not shown.

Coil wise apart from these being replaceable – you have as much of a clue as I do.

Zooming into the image on the website of the coil I think it says 0.8ohm and 12-18W? As the output of the device is not even specified I am not sure if you can adjust the output to suit the coil?mk pro class coil

Here is a similarly vague introduction video from the SX Mini YouTube channel.

There are 2 colour options to choose from: Black and Gunmetal. The video above does show two more colours a Gold and a Blue but these are not shown on the SX Mini website.

The SXmini SX Nano review and this is obviously the smaller version of the hugely popular SX Class and is also an auto squonker.

We haven’t reviewed the latter, but I have reviewed the YiHi SX Mini Mi Class pod kit – which I found a little on the lacklustre flavour side of things.

sxmini nano auto squonker vape kit review

I did buy the awesome and still very much used Q Mini – one of the best vape mods ever made in my humble opinion.

I’ve never really fancied the much loved G Class but would like to get my hands on the MX Class one day soon – in black if anyone’s reading this lol.

OK, SXmini is known for its ‘high end‘ vape devices and its direct competitor, I guess, would be Lost Vape. Whilst both companies do bring out pricey vape gear, they could be classed as the lower end of the high end vape market…if you catch my drift.

One thing I can say, and that’s my experience with the YiHi chip and menu can be a little frustrating – even using the Q Mini after all these years, I still get lost in there lol.

Let’s hope the menu on the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit is easier to navigate…for me any way.

What Can We Expect From the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit?

Automatic squonking is the obvious answer – hey – call me Captain Obvious.

This review was written some weeks ago but held in drafts waiting for the ‘RSA deck’….rebuildable squonking atomizer.

SXmini SX Nano Review stainless tell drip tip
SXMini SX Nano with stainless steel drip tip

I’ve put that in inverted commas, as it’s more pre-wrapped coils than an actual deck as you will see.

SXMini has also asked me to showcase the stainless steel drip tip – my original reviewer kit came with just a black plastic one. The company says the stainless steel one will be in the retail box and available to be purchased separately.

OK, so with the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk I hope to see great flavour, a great build quality and a good looking design.

I think we can tick the latter off, it does look very smart indeed.

Add to that, I’m pleased to to see airflow control, and whilst there’s only one choice of coil right now, there is another due to be released soon.

OK, scene set on with the review – for the record this was sent to me direct from SXmini – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies…

Inside the Box

No frills box – the retail version should also come with the dinky little SXmini bag…

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Specs and Features

  • Size: 87.4x39x17.9mm
  • Output: Not specified
  • Battery: 900mAh internal
  • E-liquid capacity: 2ml
  • USB Type C charging – 1A charge rate – 60 mins to full charge
  • YiHi SX681J chip

Key Features

As the name suggests, the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit automatically pumps e-liquid to your coil once the chip sensor recognizes the coil is too hot or dry. There’s also a manual over-ride should you feel more vape juice is required.

BTW, the fancy name for this auto squonking malarkey is: the ESS driver system [Electronic Spray Squonk].

The auto squonk mod is topped with the ADA-V2 [Auto Dripping Atomizer] which takes the disc shaped 0.6ohm ‘coil’. There’s two of those in the box, one already installed, and a 0.3ohm version is to be released soon. YiHi says there’s a chance a separate RSA atomizer may be released in the future.

SX-ADAv2 disc coils

There is airflow control on the ADA-V2 – I’ll look at how that affects the performance in a moment.

Incidentally, these coils are not compatible with the larger SXmini SX Auto.

There’s no wattage control as such, instead there’s x3 ‘flavour pre-sets‘, and these are Cold – Normal and Warm – these are obviously a form of temperature control thanks to the YiHi SX681J chip.

warm reset

The kit is powered by an internal 900mAH battery and has fast USB Type C charging.

OK, before we get into the review, let’s get the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit set up and ready to vape.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit Quick Start Guide

  • x5 Clicks to turn on
  • x3 clicks of the fire button to lock and again to unlock
  • Remove e-liquid reservoir from side of the device and fill
  • Screw on the ADA V2
  • Press the fire button once – this will start the auto squonk – screen will state No Liquid
  • Once filled device will hold in a priming mode waiting for the coil to saturate
  • Press UP x1 to enter flavour/power presets
  • Scroll via up and down button and press fire button to select the chosen mode
  • Press Down button x1 to enter the Pump settings – adjust pump speed via up and down buttons
  • To manually squonk – press and hold Up button
  • To draw away excess e-liquid press and hold the Down button
  • x5 clicks of the fire button to enter configuration mode
  • Coils are push ‘n pull

Configuration modes are: Shutdown – Brightness – *Update – Exit and Help.

Note: each flavour pre-set setting has its own pump speed – however this can be altered if so wished.

pump up

You can’t over squonk either – at least I couldn’t – if you auto squonk, the device cuts out and stops pumping after a few seconds.

OK, it might all sound a little complicated on paper – but it really isn’t – if this old fool can suss it out you guys will have no issues lol.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Firmware Upgrade

The kit does have a firmware *upgrade option, V7, which is the mass production Firmware.

The manual was printed (in the version we received) prior to the firmware release.

In the review samples, the battery level now shows 100% when full and there’s an added auto lock feature.

Another important note regarding this firmware is:

  • When installing a new coil: Hold the fire button 1st time to get a No liquid notice.
  • Hold the fire button a 2nd time to initiate auto new-coil feeding operation.

Download the firmware upgrade HERE – link works for all SXmini devices, just choose the one you require.

Checkout the handy video for more information and how to upgrade the firmware:

It took me a few goes to actually get my device to connect…

What I can say is following the update – the Normal and Warm settings certainly bumped up a few degrees.

SXmini SX Nano RSA Deck

It’s not so much a deck as a set of pre-built and pre-wicked coils.

It’s a simple matter of removing the paper disc and coil from the housing and replacing it.

pre built coils sxmini

Rather than me banging on – here’s a very simple to follow video for swapping out the coils from SXMini:

So easy I did it…and I’m guessing the more nimble among us will easily re-wrap your own coils.

Design and Build Quality

SXmini is known for its high end vape gear and with that comes an expectation of stunning design and excellent build quality.

The SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit is most definitely a classy good looking set up and not at all ‘over fancified‘ as some of their previous mods I could mention.

SXmini SX Nano auto squonk kit design
with the black driptip

The device has ridges running around the whole mod and they match beautifully with the circular ones on the ADA-V2 – like I said this is a good looking set-up.

The SXmini logo is a little big – but not in your face, ideal for showing the world you vape on high end vape kits lol.

One thing to note is, the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk kit is a little wobbly when standing up on your desk or table. Mine has toppled a few times, however the paintwork is standing up so far.

Saying that and laying on its side overnight I had no leakage – the vape kit not me BTW…I ain’t that old yet!

Also to note is the finish, it has left the mod a little on the slippery side in your hand – but no biggie if you’re careful.

Both drip tips are proprietary and screw into the tank and are on the small size but I like them – even the new stainless steel version. However my OCD kicks in a little as there’s a perceivable gap between it and the 510…only tiny but it irks me lol.

gap
mind the gap

The buttons are slightly raised from the device – look great and are very clicky indeed with a nice throw to them as well.

The vape juice reservoir slots in and out easily enough, is easy to fill and there’s a spare in the box meaning you can have a couple of different e-liquids on the go.

fill reservoir

Build wise I’m guessing this is zinc alloy – it’s lightweight, but still manages to feel substantial in the hand if that makes sense.

sx nano colours

So, it looks good, with all the moving parts working well – so how does it vape?

How Does the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit Perform?

The short answer is very well indeed.

I’ve had absolutely no issues with the auto pump/squonk feature.

Given I know from experience that Yihi chip mnenus can shall we say, be a little deep and ponderous, the configuration options on the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit are refreshingly easy and straightforward.

pump up

So the big question is – how does the ADA-V2 and 0.6ohm disc coil perform?

SX-ADAv2 Atomizer disc coil

Let’s break it down into the x3 flavour presets.

For the test I’ve used x2 different e-liquids, a salt nic – the SuperGood Cocktail Selection Peach Belini – and to see if it could cope with higher VG vape juice, the Jungle Juice Lagoon Red Lagoon, bloody lovely stuff!

For the record, the ADA-V2 and coil managed both vape juices very well indeed, with no issues wicking the thicker vape juice.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Cold

The auto squonk pumps maxes at 40 – and you can’t go any higher – but you can of course go lower.

I wouldn’t use the word ‘cold’ to describe this preset – more lukewarm.

Flavour is decent too and bags of clouds – not bad at all.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Normal

This preset has the pump speed set at 40 – but you can go to the max of 50 or lower should you desire.

There’s the slightest – and I mean slightest – up in temp – but only a tad.

warm temp setting

Again the flavour is decent – not mind-blowing – but acceptable, and there’s once again plenty of clouds.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Warm

This time there’s a definite jump in temperature and the pump speed can move from 50 to 60 if that takes your fancy.

The flavour gets a jump too – however I’m going to have to put it in the good rather than amazing flavour zone.

Yes I can taste the usual flavour notes from my preferred e-liquid, but it’s not singing if you catch my drift.

SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit – Airflow

The air comes in from both sides of the ADA-V2.

There are x2 tiny pin holes both the same size.

airflow

With both open it’s an airy MTL vape with 10 being the airiest this is around an 8.5

One open and it’s around the 7.5 airiness scale lol.

I have shut both airflow ports off and if you like a very tight MTL vape that’s the one for you. Things did warm up and the flavours was slightly better – bonus!

My preferred setting is set on warm, with a pump speed of 50, and the single airflow pin hole closed half way off. A decent tight MTL vape with OK flavour and plenty of clouds.

Battery Longevity

Not good if I’m honest.

I’m guessing a combo of that pump and a small battery mAH is the key.

Fully charged and vaping for a little over 2.5 hours saw the battery drop to almost flat.

Ummm…

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Smart looking design
  • Auto squonk feature works well
  • Good simple easy to navigate menu
  • Flavour presets
  • Airflow options
  • Great clouds
  • Decent flavour
  • Good price
  • No leaks!
  • Good coil and battery longevity

Cons

  • Bit wobbly when stood up
  • Poor battery life

Final Review Verdict

Looking at the sheer amount of Pros outnumbering the Cons, you’d expect me to be raving about the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonk Kit… so am I?

It’s a bit of a Yes and No from me…yeah splinters on my ample arse from fence sitting lol…

It looks bloody beautiful and feels great in the hand. It’s easy to fill and operate – after a very quick learning curve – and there’s enough options to keep you happy.

Incidentally and even after the guys over at SXMini asked me to showcase the stainless steel and ultem driptip – I prefer using the plastic one…nothing but contrary me ha!

Anyway, including the option of buying pre-wrapped coils is a great addition too and will certainly save you a few quid in the long run.

Is the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonker Flavoursome?

Which brings me to the flavour off the SXmini SX Nano Auto Squonker…

It’s certainly into the better side of good flavour wise and much better with the airflow almost shut off.

I have tried x2 different coils, and each one took a long time to break in, and each achieved the same flavour score.

As you can see I’ve also used the pre-wrapped coils and to be honest there was no real difference in flavour – definitely no drop which is a good thing.

Popping them in to the circular ‘deck’ can be a little fiddly but nothing too difficult.

I would certainly NOT put you off buying it, it’s decent enough flavour…but don’t expect to take this one out all day due to the battery life…

So, is this one you own or are thinking of buying?

Let me know your thoughts and comments in the comments below!

PS: SXmini says the kit was due to be released in December 2020 – at the time of writing this vape review [updated in January] I can’t see it for sale anywhere…I’ll update when I do.
