Steam Crave are usually known for creating big chunky devices such as the Titan RDTA, Hadron Pro mod and Titan PWM mod!

Visit the Steam Crave Website For More Information!

What To Expect From The Steam Crave Meson Pod…

This time Steam Crave have moved to a more delicate style with a simple looking pod kit.

meson pod components

As usual there are two main components – the battery section (or Mod) and the pod (or tank).

The pod contains the coil which is fixed, therefore you dispose of the pod component when performance deteriorates.

The kit comes with an 0.8ohm Mesh Pod but there appears to be 0.6ohm, 1ohm and 1.2ohm variants available separately.

meson pod pod

A side fill port is provided and at this point there is only a 3.5ml version – not sure if a 2ml TPD version will become available in the future?

Looking at the main device now – this has a 1000mAh rechargeable battery with a USB Type C port. It doesn’t mention the charging rate.

meson pod battery

The output is specified as 14.5W max in the Specifications but says “25W Max” further up the page – so your guess is as good as mine!

On the back of the device is an airflow slider to adjust the incoming air restriction to your preference.

The LED indicator takes the form of the initials “SC” which of course stand for “Steam Crave”!

There are 6 colours to choose from but these have not been given official names as yet?

What To Expect From The Steam Crave Meson AIO…

This is a “Boro” compatible AIO (All In One) box style kit.

meson aio components

Plus the Steam Crave Meson Boro tank is available to buy on its own.

meson boro tank components

Both of the main components are full of features so I will tackle the mod first.

This uses a single battery which is not included. You can use a 21700, 20700 or using the included adaptor even a 18650.

meson aio battery

The output is specified as 5-100W but if you use the 18650 battery the maximum output may be lower.

A 0.69in OLED screen located on the base allows you to view all of your vaping data. In addition you have plenty of user modes to choose from – Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, Temperature Control and Bypass.

Airflow wise you can remove the front panel, you get two front panels included, one with adjustable airflow and another with a fully open fixed airflow.

Meson aio front panels

Moving on to the tank – as the name suggests this is based on the “Boro” platform and therefore offers compatibility with other Boro devices.

Meson aio tank

This tank has a removable deck and included in the kit is the Mesh clamp deck and a single / dual wire coil postless deck. Plus you even get coils, mesh and cotton included!

meson aio mesh deckmeson aio coil deck

With a capacity of 5ml you can remove the plug from the side fill port to add more e-liquid. Sadly I have not seen a 2ml option for TPD regulated areas yet?

Also included is a 510 adaptor so you can test fire the deck whilst building.

meson aio 510 adaptor

Swapping over the deck apparently is simple and you do not have to empty the tank before doing this.

meson aio boro tank features

There are 6 colour options to choose from: Red, Blue, Purple, Gunmetal and Black.

What Is New For The Steam Crave Meson RTA…

Anyway this time things are on a much smaller and more delicate scale!

meson rta components

The RTA has a more mod friendly 25mm diameter and is designed for single low wattage coil builds.

Also this is tailored more to RDL vapers who require a tighter airflow. We tell you what this term means in our Guide To Vape Styles.

The deck as mentioned above is for a single coil configuration with two simple build posts plus this has a smaller chamber to condense the vapour.

meson deck

This has top airflow inlets which always help to prevent leaks compared to bottom airflow tanks. The airflow is also adjustable.

meson airflow

Unusually for low power RTAs this comes with great capacity options – the straight glass offers 5ml and the bubble glass is 6ml.

meson capacity

Filling is taken care of by unscrewing the top cap to reveal the fill area.

Here is an introduction video from the Steam Crave YouTube channel.

There are 3 colours to choose from: Black, Gunmetal and Stainless Steel.

In for review is the Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V3 RDTA!

The Aromamizer line by Steam Crave is pretty much their flagship. In fact, their Aromamizer Plus V2 was reviewed by Will Jameson back in 2020 and his summary was very strong:

Steam Crave describe the Aromamizer Plus V2 as “The Most Versatile RTA!” and I can see why. With loads of well thought out options, and bullet-proof build quality, this is a seriously impressive bit of kit.

Not to mention Will also gave the Plus V2 a solid 9.1/10.

In a straight comparison, at a glance there doesn’t seem to be many major differences between the V2 and the V3.

Visually the airflow options have changed but I’m very interested to see what’s been improved/changed in order for them to justify the release of the Plus V3.

Not to mention I also got the chance to review the Plus V2 within my Steam Crave Hadron Plus Combo Review so I have a fair bit of experience with the Plus V2 myself!

Oh and before I forget – All Plus V1 and V2 parts are cross-compatible with the V3. Result!

What Can We Expect From the Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V3 ?

If you’ve not owned or tried an Aromamizer RDTA before here’s the basics.

The Aromamizer Plus V3 is a 30mm RDTA with a bit of a twist. It’s an RDTA in the aspect that e-liquid wicks from under the deck, but the tank is above the deck. So I still struggle to call the Aromamizer an RDTA.

aromamizer plus v3 rdta components

Secondly, the Aromamizer doubles up as an RDA. With the removal of the chimney and the glass, you’re able to convert the Aromamizer Plus V3 into a 35mm tall (plus drip tip) RDA! Clever stuff.

Lastly, the standard kit comes with a tidy dual coil post-less deck with honeycomb airflow. But there is also a Mesh-deck-kit available along with a number of other deck styles including single coil, velocity and series deck.

aromamizer plus v3 rdta decksPlus there is a full glass extension kit available too! Loads of choice!

There are 2 types of airflow and both are adjustable. The side airflow provides 80% of the total flow and the bottom airflow is the remaining 20%.

aromamizer plus v3 rdta specs

Key Features

The Aromamizer Plus V3 breaks down into 11 separate pieces when in RDTA mode, so this isn’t your regular RTA or RDTA. No Sir!

Steam Crave are also calling this, the ‘Ragnar Mini’ which is a chunky 35mm in diameter, a 18/28mm capacity but a very similar airflow style.

The beauty of the Aromamizer RDTA’s is that although they’re large, they can be somewhat practical, especially in comparison to the Titan or Hadron variants. Meaning someone not looking to fork out fairly serious money for a Steam Crave monster, can still enjoy the build quality and experience of a Steam Crave product day to day, without carrying a separate bag to carry it around in.

Design and Build Quality

I received the gunmetal variant of the Aromamizer Plus V3 and quite frankly, I like it. And as a touch of luck, it also matches perfectly with my Hadron Plus DNA250C device along with my Vaperz Cloud Sceptre although the gunmetal finish on that is a little different.

Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

Firstly the 810 drip-tip itself is a little unusual in style compared to anything I’ve tried before, with an odd groove around the middle. You can feel it on the lips but it’s not exactly uncomfortable, just a little odd. Nonetheless the marbling effect and general colour of the drip tip is really nice.

The top cap has the expected Steam Crave branding and is removable by unscrewing anti-clockwise to allow filling into the massive kidney shaped ports.

Inner Chamber

The inner chamber/tube is removable in order to convert the RDTA into an RDA and is fairly easy to remove, screwing into the top and bottom of the RDTA and includes a tidy O-ring at its base.

Deck

Steam Crave have designed a slightly different style of their generic post-less deck to allow for bottom airflow that the Aromamizer Plus V3 includes. Apart from that it’s a fairly similar deck, with the usual Allen grub screws. The deck itself is actually fairly small but still sizeable enough to allow for a dual coil build with some 3mm ID coils. More on building later.

The wicking ports are small but also just enough to allow for your two strips of cotton on either side to fill the ports.

Juice Flow Control

Steam Crave and the Aromamizer line are well known for including juice flow control. In Steam Craves case – I strongly feel JFC (Juice Flow Control) is mostly in place to limit the pressure being put on the wicking ports when filling with e-liquid. Mainly because of the weight behind a full tank of e-liquid for a tank this size.

On the side of the RDTA are two padlocks, one locked and the other unlocked. Obviously the locked lock means the JFC is shut off. However, it’s quite possible some of you may prefer to run your JFC half, or quarter open to try and limit the pressure of e-liquid on the deck.

Nonetheless the JFC works very well and although I found adjusting it means using all fingers and thumbs to stop other parts from turning, it still operated very well and JFC is a great addition to any RTA/RDTA.

Airflow

The airflow ring offers major adjustability to the airflow, designed to offer 80% side and 20% bottom airflow, the adjustments are pretty crazy and vast.

The Base

The base has the usual branding ‘Designed By BJ Shi’ and serial numbers.

With these RDTA’s, you will need to unscrew the base in order to remove the deck. So Steam Crave have included a lovely O-ring on the base to limit/remove the chance for leaking. And it works really well.

Overall Build Quality

This RDTA is wonderfully built to the expected high standards we assume to come from Steam Crave. The machining is clean and tidy and considering the amount of moving parts, the Aromamizer Plus V3 manages to operate each part independently. If not with a little help from multiple fingers and thumbs.

How Does The Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V3 RDTA Perform?

Building

I opted for a set of Fused Claptons by Proper Coils over the included coils.

Cutting the coil legs at 5mm length allows for the coils to sit nicely above the deck, whilst being close enough to the bottom airflow to allow for the air to travel in between and around the outside of both coils.

Gently unscrew the grub screws, as they can be a little stiff on the first build

The dual Fused Claptons coils came out at 0.11Ω and have a 3mm inner diameter. I feel 3mm ID is the optimum size for this deck, any smaller and you’ll really have to dial down the airflow. Any larger inner diameter and you may not get enough airflow, particularly from the bottom of the deck.

Place your coils and tighten the grub screws up. Once tight, gently bend your coils into position, ensuring the bottom airflow isn’t blocked but the coils are centred to allow for optimum airflow.

Once positioned, gently pulse your coils ensuring they glow evenly from the centre. This can take a while with chunky coils but a light scrape over the surface usually eeks out the hot spots and leaves you with perfectly glowing coils.

Wicking The RDTA

The post-less deck offers a tight yet usable wicking port which for me is a little on the small side, yet after a few trials, it’s more than enough for a decent amount of cotton.

I tend to cut my cotton lengths just past the end of the deck, with a decent comb out you end up with a lovely arcing rainbow of cotton into the ports. Not too tight, not too loose.

Once complete, saturate your coils and cotton with e-liquid, but not too much. Fitting the deck back into the RDTA can be a little messy if your cotton is dripping with e-liquid and it can be a little squeeze if you’ve rammed too much cotton in the deck. So just a light saturation will do.

Fill the tank once the deck is fitted, ensuring the juice flow control is locked OFF, then once filled, slowly open the juice flow control to allow the e-liquid to reach the bottom of the deck.

How to Fill

Filling the ginormous capacity of the Aromamizer Plus V3 is simple enough. Firstly make sure the juice flow control ring is locked OFF. Then remove the top cap by screwing it anti-clockwise.

Once opened you have two massive kidney shaped slots to fill into, however – I strongly recommend filling your newly built RDTA half full or even less. This will allow you to check for any leaks before taking the plunge and filling completely.

Once you’ve either half, or completely filled the tank, re-fit the top-cap and slowly, carefully open the juice flow control and watch the mass of bubbles as your e-liquid filters under the deck. It’s a little therapeutic to be honest.

Flavour and Clouds

For the duration of my testing on the Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V3 I used an array of e-liquids. Mostly fruits but also a small number of dessert flavours. All of which were 70VG / 30PG at 3mg. Although my wattage varied during my time with the RDTA, generally speaking I worked between 100W and 140W.

All Airflow Open

At 140 watts I found the airflow wide open was more than acceptable, if not a little airy, but the extra wattage helped to pull out every ounce of vapour and boy does this thing chuck clouds. For sure the airflow is slightly loud and a-plenty but it’s still usable and a nice flavour filled vape.

Bottom Airflow only

Nope – don’t do it. Especially with two large coils, the 20% bottom airflow just isn’t enough to work all by itself. You certainly need the side airflow.

Top Airflow Half Open and Bottom Airflow open

At 120 watts the restriction is still a little tight for me personally, but it still provides a fairly airy draw with just a slight restriction. Flavour wise it’s still very good but personally it’s a little too tight for me. Nonetheless, it does push the noise level down a little and is still enjoyable.

RDA Mode

The Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V3 may be a little OTT to be used as an RDA, mostly because of the sheer bulk in RDA mode. Nonetheless it still performs quite well and the airflow customisability is very handy, something we don’t generally get with RDA’s. Sure we get limited airflow adjustment, but nothing like the Plus V3 can offer.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Vast airflow configurations
  • Easy to build & wick
  • Giant capacity
  • Not OTT in size for day to day
  • Plenty of deck options for purchase

Cons

  • Perhaps a little large for some
  • Tight wicking port
  • Weird in RDA mode but usable. I guess.
  • Drip-Tip feel is a little odd

Final Review Verdict

Steam Crave have pretty much nailed the Aromamizer Plus series. I never had the chance to try the V1, but the V2 was excellent. So I’m a little stumped on what to call the V3, Super Excellent? Well… not quite.

For sure the Aromamizer Plus V3 is an improvement over the V2, offering a bottom airflow to improve performance and more airflow adjustability but its still, a big 30mm tank to carry around with a 12/18ml capacity. So it’s not going to be for everyone.

The Steam Crave nuts in the world will probably be creaming all over the Plus V3 and I am a little also! But for me it’s just a little Over The Top for a daily driver so you seriously need to consider just how much you will use this tank. Depending on your job, your way of life and also your budget.

Let’s not forget all the options that you have – multiple deck options including a single coil and mesh along with the crazy number of airflow adjustments available. Oh and of course all the capacity options!

Don’t forget ‘You get what you pay for’ and with the Aromamizer Plus V3, you’re paying for that high build quality which will certainly last a lot longer than a number of cheaper RTA/RDTA’s

So what could possibly be next for the Aromamizer series? Personally I think they should call it a day, what else could they possibly do? Time for a change Steam Crave. But thank you for making a tank which has amazing options, a great build and lovely flavour and performance.

Did you, or will you buy the Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus V3? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

By the way RDSA stands for “Rebuildable Dripping Squonk Atomiser”!

Steam Crave for the most part, are the kings of creating large, high powered mods and tanks and as always they never cease to surprise me with what they come up with next.

At the start of this year I was fortunate enough to try out the Hadron Plus Combo Kit that combined a huge Dual 21700 DNA250c device with the Aromamizer Plus V2. For the most part, it was a thoroughly enjoyable bit of kit, if not a little on the large side – but that’s to be expected from Steam Crave.

What Can We Expect From the Hadron RDSA, Mesh RDSA & Pumper by Steam Crave

So let’s be straight up about what we’re looking at with this next instalment in the Hadron line.

We have two rebuildables!

Firstly the Hadron RDSA is a 30mm dripper with a postless deck which is suitable for both series and parallel builds.

According to which clamps you use you can use this as a series or parallel deck. In series mode your coil resistance is added together – i.e. 2×0.3ohm = 0.6ohm total.

In a parallel build your coil resistance is halved so 2×0.3ohm = 0.15ohm total.

hadron rdsa series parallel

There are side and bottom airflow adjustments.

The Hadron Mesh RDSA is also 30mm in diameter but is a Dual Mesh rebuildable and has side adjustable airflow.

Both of the above drippers are perfectly compatible with something very new and ‘innovative’ – The Pumper.

So what is the Pumper? Effectively it’s what I have affectionately called ‘The Squonky Tank’! A 30mm tank which can hold 12ml of e-liquid and has a very clever pump design meaning you can directly pump e-liquid into your dripper without the need to purchase a squonk mod.

However – Size, as always with Steam Crave is the real issue!

Let’s crack on and see how this performs!

In the Box’s

  • Diameter: 30mm (39.1mm with pump button)
  • Dual Mesh build deck with clamp system
  • Dual adjustable airflow
  • 810 Drip-Tip

Key Features

Fortunately all these three products can be purchased separately.

If you’re just looking for a new 30mm dripper, you can pick up the Hadron RDSA and use however you like. Or pair it with the pumper?

Or if you’re not a fan of 30mm drippers and don’t like the thought of carrying around a bulky squonk mod, you could get the Pumper and use your own dripper as the 510 connection on the Pumper allows use of any dripper you like.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Stainless Steel variants of all three products and across the board, like pretty much all Steam Crave products, the general build quality is to their high standard.

Hadron RDSA

Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

The top of the Hadron RDSA features a nice marbled blue/purple 810 drip tip that fits nicely into the top cap which is push fitted into the barrel. The Top-Cap is also responsible for your side airflow adjustment and rotates nicely with a small amount of restriction. The top knurled design offers a small amount of additional grip

Barrel & Bottom Airflow

The main barrel is held on via O-rings which personally I find a little on the loose side. The barrel has 2 small locator notches that click into place with the deck meaning your airflow is always centred with the coils. The airflow options are quite vast from all open, to just the centre holes open or just the bottom two open.

The barrel itself has some nicely etched STEAM CRAVE text along with a honeycomb airflow design. Connected to the barrel, but removable is a bottom airflow ring which adjusts freely and offers a direct airflow under the installed coils.

Deck

This is where things get a little clever. The Hadron RDSA deck is a post-less deck with Allen key grub screws and can be built as a Series or Parallel build. Therefore you have a vast number of options when building on the Hadron RDA. Not to mention it is capable of holding up to around 5mm ID coils.

The deck itself is push fitted into the base of the RDA and has two small notches which locate into the groves of the barrel which makes fitment very easy. It also has a fairly nicely sized juice well, ideal for dripping and absorbing e-liquid when squonking.

Either side of the deck are two small holes located near the base of the juice well, which is where e-liquid will flow when squonking. So it’s wise to keep these slightly clear to allow e-liquid to flow.

The Base

If you’ve not had a Steam Crave rebuildable before, specifically an RDA or RDTA then the style in which the base doubles up as the deck can be a little strange but its nothing too confusing. The solid 510 pin protrudes nicely and can be swapped for a bottom feed (BF) hollow squonk pin.

The base includes the usual branding and batch numbers.

How Does The Hadron RDSA Perform?

Building on the Hadron RDSA

Due to the post-less deck, building on the Hadron RDSA is very easy. Coil position is the main thing to consider.

Using the furthest two outer positions will create a Parallel build, whereas if you connect the coils diagonally (Shown in the image below) you will create a Series build meaning your resistance will be higher than that of a parallel build.

I found cutting my coils at 6.0mm was an ideal length to allow the coils to meet centre with the side airflow, along with leaving enough height for bottom air to flow freely as well as plenty of room for a fair length of cotton.

Once I had fitted the coils, I pulsed them at a low wattage and raked out any hot spots until the coils glow evenly from the centre.

Wicking The Hadron RDSA

If you’re planning on using the Hadron RDSA as a dripper, then you’re welcome to pack the deck with cotton to your hearts content. However if combining with the Pumper or a regular squonk mod then its worth considering thinning the cotton a little to allow for a smacking of e-liquid to be absorbed quickly without blocking up and flooding the deck. Which unfortunately, can be done easily if you’re not careful.

Even though the Hadron RDSA has a fairly sized juice well, once that space is filled with cotton, when squonking the e-liquid will have no-where else to travel but through the bottom airflow and anywhere else liquid likes to travel.

Flavour and Clouds

I used a pair of Fused Clapton from Proper Coils, coming out in Parallel at 0.14Ω and vaping at 100watts. The flavour is very good but making a number of airflow adjustments really makes a difference to the experience.

With both the bottom, and side airflow both open, the airflow is direct, open and surprisingly smooth with the tiniest of restriction. It certainly feels similar in vape experience to something like the Aromamizer Plus V2 with perhaps a little less restriction. Flavour is an 8 out of 10 for sure.

Closing the bottom airflow and relying fully on the side, the restriction is only slightly more noticeable, flavour is the same but if anything it’s a little warmer than with all airflow open.

Closing the side airflow completely and relying on the bottom airflow alone is not a good idea. The draw is just too tight, yeah sure it allows for a restrictive DTL draw but with the large coils installed, it’s a little too toasty for a good vape.

DTL stands for “Direct To Lung” and we describe it in more detail in our Guide To Vape Styles.

My favourite preference is with the bottom airflow open and just the two bottom rows of the side airflow open. This allows for a little restriction, but a very smooth draw and very good flavour.

Hadron Mesh RDSA

Although you may think Steam Crave would just swap the deck of the Hadron RDSA and pop a Mesh deck in. Well no – the Mesh RDSA is much more than that and they’ve certainly made different considerations when it comes to airflow and the way in which a mesh coil works differently to a standard dual coil build.

Once thing that surprised me initially with the Mesh RDSA is just how short and stumpy it is. For a 30mm diameter Mesh RDA, its only 0.6mm taller than it is wide!

Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

The Black 810 drip tip sits nice and snug on the top cap and sits on a slightly raised platform. The top cap also doubles up as the airflow adjustment and clicks into place thanks to the small locator markers on the top cap. You can adjust the airflow between two options, a dual honeycomb row or a single row of holes on each side.

Inner Barrel

The inner enclosure fits onto the deck via O-Rings and is a little loose in fitment which means it falls off easily. A little annoying but it does have two large airflow slots that allow air to directly hit the dual mesh build. This inner barrel condenses the RDSA so that when air enters the dripper, there is barely any room for it to move, other than across the mesh and up through the drip tip.

Deck

The build deck is similar to the Mesh deck available for the Aromamizer Plus V2 however this one provides space for two mesh strips. Apparently meaning more flavour, vapour and certainly more e-liquid.

The deck consists of 4 clamps with Phillip’s head grub screws which provide a nice tight clamp to your mesh strip.

The juice well is a little small considering the massive amount of cotton you have to pass through the mesh but with a little thinning, it fits fine.

The deck doesn’t provide any additional support for the cotton under the mesh, which is different to most mesh rebuildables which usually have a spring loaded support for the cotton to keep it pressed against the mesh. Not having this in place, is a mistake in my opinion.

The Base

The base of the Mesh RDSA has a protruding 510 pin and the expected branding and batch information. The 510 pin can be swapped for a squonk pin as well but be careful when removing the pin as its holding the deck in place also.

How Does The Hadron Mesh RDSA Perform?

Building on the Hadron Mesh RDSA

The kit comes with two sets of mesh strips, two are SS and the other two are Kanthal A1. In the kit is a mesh forming tool which is handy to carefully bend the mesh into a curved shape.

Opening the grub screws just enough to fit the mesh into place isn’t too difficult, just be sure not to open the clamps up too much or the screw will fall out. And more importantly ensure the mesh is sat square and flush otherwise its possible to twist the mesh or even kink it.

Once the strips are installed and the clamps are tight, be sure to give the mesh a gentle pulse at around 20W to remove any dirt and to ensure an even glow.

Generally speaking the deck is very simple to build on, it’s the wicking which can be a challenge.

Wicking The Mesh RDSA

The kit comes with 2 large shoe lace cotton strips and it only takes one strip to wick the deck. Gently guiding the cotton through the two strips can be tricky, so take your time.

Once through the two strips, give the cotton a gentle to-and-fro pull to ensure it’s tightly bedded against the mesh.

I found cutting the cotton at a diagonal angle and raking out a small amount as well allowed for the best wicking and also allows a little room for e-liquid to travel especially when squonking. But it’s a fine line between too much cotton which will mean leaks and lack of saturation and too little cotton which will cause flooding and leaking also.

Honestly I’ve struggled to find the balance between the two, but it’s possible with practice. Less is generally more with this deck. Just be sure to have some tissue close by to mop up any leaks.

Flavour and Clouds

Generally speaking Mesh rebuildables can be a bit hit or miss and I’m yet to figure out quite why because in essence they’re generally very similar in style, build deck and airflow design. The Hadron Mesh RDSA sits somewhere in the middle between a great vape, and an under achiever. But it’s still a serious cloud chucker for sure thanks to that Dual Mesh build.

I started off at 60 Watts with the double slotted airflow and the experience is cool, and airy with average flavour. Ramping up the wattage to 80 Watts (the lowest recommended) and the clouds become thick and dense. There is a slight warmth and the flavour comes through quite well too. However it’s still a fairly airy draw but I always prefer high amounts of airflow on mesh rebuildables so I stuck at it.

The maximum recommended on the Kanthal A1 Mesh is 160 watts. So why not…

Honestly – I was scared due to the fear of a mesh dry hit from hell! But amazingly the cotton and the mesh work wonders to create a serious cloud whilst still keeping decent flavour. The warmth from this build is surprising considering it is mesh! A little Over-The-Top for me personally, however it works, it keeps up and it’ll fog out a room in no time.

I need to mention at this point, I tried the single slotted airflow but felt it was just a little too restrictive regardless of how you set your wattage so during all my testing I used the double row of airflow slots. I just feel like mesh needs much more airflow.

The Steam Crave Pumper

After reading all the waffle about the Hadron RDSA and Mesh RDA you’re probably wondering how well the Pumper can be combined with either of the two rebuildables to become a super mega pumpy squonk tank. So here goes….

First off – using the Pumper with any 510 threaded dripper is going to drastically raise the height of your setup. The Pumper is almost 40mm in height so adding that to any setup is going to ‘raise’ its profile quite a lot, if not double it. So that’s something to keep in mind.

The Pumper allows you to use any dripper with squonk pin installed on top of the pumper and removes the need for a squonking device. Very clever and it works very simply.

The 12ml capacity tank doesn’t surprise me as Steam Crave always offer the maximum they can and 12ml is a larger capacity than a number of squonk mods offer.

The idea is you place your dripper on top of the pumper and when you need to saturate the cotton you give the side mounted plunger a ‘pump’ and e-liquid will travel into the dripper. Simple right?

But is the side mounted push button a bit of an eye-sore? Well yeah a little and it also adds to the width of the setup, but I suppose if you want this kind of thing, you’ll just have to accept it.

The Top/510 Connector

Having a 30mm diameter means you can fit anything up to 30mm on top of the pumper without any overhang. But of course you can use any dripper you like or even an RDTA if it’s capable of being used with a squonker – i.e. includes a hollow (bottom feed – BF) 510 pin.

At the top there is a nicely located O-Ring to limit leaking when squonking and also to protect the 510 connection. And it seals quite well.

Internals

Taking the Pumper apart and you realise just how simple, yet clever the system is, there is a small hole near the bottom of the pump tube which will force the e-liquid up into the RDA. There are O-Rings top and bottom to create a good seal also.

Squonk Plunger

Protruding on one side is the actual Plunger or press-button which does all the squonky magic. The solid feeling button presses smoothly and each press of the button pushes exactly 0.22ml per press. As much as it’s perhaps a little ugly, it’s functional and throughout my testing has been trustworthy.

Fill Port

Opposite the plunger is the filling port which is protected by a threaded, knurled cap which also has a small airflow hole on one side.

Unscrewing the cap can be a little tricky as it’s quite small, but the knurl helps to grip. However keep an eye on it as it’s very easy to loose and there are no spares in the box!

How Does The Steam Crave Pumper Perform?

Squonking & How many Pumps?

When you buy a new Squonk Mod it can take a little while to get accustomed to how long, or how hard you have to press the bottle to perfectly saturate the coil. And the Pumper is no different. It’s very easy to over-squonk so to start with I strongly suggest the ‘One Pump at a time’ technique – Without sounding too smutty!

When using the Hadron Mesh RDA – I found 1 single squeeze of the plunger was enough to force e-liquid right into the centre of the cotton under the mesh – Any more than that and the e-liquid floods the deck and becomes a problem.

When using the Hadron RDSA, I’d say a press and a half is much better. The RDSA has a better juice well which won’t be as packed with cotton as the Mesh deck will, allowing for excess e-liquid to sit in the juice well rather than flooding out. But again, be cautious because an over-squonk can start leaking out through the bottom airflow.

Generally speaking, once you come to terms with how it behaves, it performs very well and is actually quite fun in a way. It’s also very trustworthy and I’m yet to experience any airlocks, bubbles or seizing of the pump button.

Another thing to mention, I was surprised that adding the Pumper to an RDA didn’t make any difference to the resistance reading on a device. Literally nothing. Adding this kind of size tank in-between the build deck and the 510 connector on the device itself, surely would affect the resistance, but clearly not. So you can appreciate that decent materials have been used to keep the resistance super low.

Aesthetics

There are two main problems when combining the Pumper with any Dripper.

Firstly – it’s a big old unit to add onto your setup, its height and width really make your existing setup top-heavy, especially when freshly loaded up with 12ml of e-liquid. So it doesn’t look very smart, nor is it very practical to carry around.

The second issue is alignment – with the pump button on one side sticking out like a sore thumb, I try as hard as I can to align it square with whichever device I have it fitted on, but it’s not always that simple and becomes a little annoying.

However paired up with the Steam Crave Hadron Plus device, I was able to align it beautifully and I pretty much kept it on this mod the entire time. Also meaning the device itself can absorb some of the size of the pumper and RDA making it looks smaller than it is thanks to the size of the Hadron device itself.

Final Review Verdict

Well – where do I start.

Firstly, and one thing I really like, each of the components listed in this review can be independently purchased and work perfectly well on their own, well – as long as you have a dripper prepared for the Pumper. Considering the size and build quality of the three products, they’re all very competitively priced also.

Obviously, pairing one of the RDA’s with the Pumper, isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. But for those who enjoy this kind of high powered ‘Out There’ systems, particularly the Steam Crave Nuts – I’m pretty sure they will thoroughly enjoy the experiences on offer from these products. So let’s keep these factors in mind when rating the Steam Crave Hadron RDSA, Mesh RDSA and Pumper.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

All three products are to Steam Craves high standards of build quality and durability. The only minor observation comes down to how loose the O-Rings are on the barrels of the RDA’s and they certainly need beefing up a little. The top cap coming off too easily is certainly my biggest nit pick out of every Con I listed above.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

Generally speaking the vape experience is very good, it’s certainly Steam Crave-esque. Sure if you’re looking for a high powered, sub-ohm vape then the two RDA’s can certainly provide that. Personally I’m a fan of larger RDA’s, 28-30mm in particular as they allow a plume of vapour and tons of flavour along with a bagful of airflow.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper and an experienced one alike?

Clearly not for the newbies – An experienced hobbyist would certainly enjoy this if they have a large high power device to pair them with. Just remember when all put together, this isn’t the kind of kit you can stick in your back pocket.

What Can We Expect From The Steam Crave Hadron Mini Combo?

Someone seems to have put Steam Crave on a diet recently, as this is now the third product from them I’ve reviewed recently that doesn’t resemble a house brick.

The Hadron Mini mod is a single battery mod (21700 or 18650) in a fairly standard box design. Of note is the fact that this is powered by a DNA chip, so all you Escribe fans can happily tinker away with the settings by hooking it up to a computer.

hadron mini kit banner

Looking at the mod now as the name suggests this has the Evolv DNA100C chip and offers loads of user modes including Variable Wattage, Temperature Control, Replay and Watts Boost.hadron mini modes

As I mentioned in the intro, the tank in this kit is the same that was in the Hadron Lite Combo, namely the Aromamizer Supreme V3. This is included for what I assume is a very similar reason, namely size.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Hatcheck

Steam Crave have few tanks that are 25mm diameter or less (the maximum this mod will take without overhang) so it’s either this, or one of their mouth to lung tanks.

As I’ve already had quite a play around with the tank, I decided to pop on the Steam Crave Glaz Mini RTA and the Aromamizer Classic to put it through its paces.

This was sent over for review from Steam Crave (thank you!) and freebies will not influence my review and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

On to the review!

In The Box

As is normal for Steam Crave, you get a whole heap of accessories in the box!

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Box Contents

  • Hadron Mini Mod
  • Aromamizer Supreme V3 RDTA
  • Mesh Deck and Dual Coil Postless deck (Single Coil Deck Pre-installed)
  • 7mm Chimney (5mm Chimney Pre-installed)
  • 7ml Bubble Glass (6ml Straight Glass Pre-installed)
  • 18650 Adapter (Pre-installed inside mod)
  • 510 Drip Tip Adapter (810 Drip Tip pre-installed)
  • Squonk Pins for Mesh Deck and Postless deck
  • USB C Charging Cable
  • Battery Wraps (2x 21700, 1x 18650)

  • Steam Crave Sticker

Oddly, the one thing it didn’t seem to come with was coils (just mesh strips). Despite me getting several when I last reviewed this tank. This may just have been an exception with mine, so I’m not going to take off any points. Especially as there’s always the possibility I misplaced them amidst all the things that were in box!

Design and Build Quality Body

The Steam Crave Hadron Mini combo comes in two colour ways, either Gunmetal (that I received) or Black. With a colour matched tank.

hadron mini coloursThe Body

It’s a quite a tall mod, with a very rectangular profile. The front and rear edges bulge out slightly, but otherwise it’s very nondescript. On either side the “Steam Crave” name is engraved into the side.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Side ViewThe back panel has a nice carbon fibre detail to it. I’m afraid I have no idea if it’s real carbon fibre or just a sticker… but it feels pretty legit.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Carbon Battery Cover

Top Plate

Your 510 plate is centred on this mod, with a gold plated positive connector and no visible screws.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Top PlateDue to its rectangular profile, it’s the width that will dictate the size of the atomiser you can use without overhang. In this case it will take up to a 25mm.

The Back Panel

The back is held on by two magnets, one at the top and one at the bottom. The downside of this is if you drop your mod the back panel is almost certainly going to go flying off. On the plus side, the magnets are nice and strong and I never had any worries about it getting dislodged if I tossed it in a bag with other things.

There’s no cut out to help you easily remove the back panel and this is probably my only criticism. Instead, there’s a very slight lip all the way around. In use I never had any issues with this and found it easy to pull the panel off.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Lip for Battery Compartment

When you first open the back panel, you’ll find the included 18650 battery adapter.

Battery polarity is very clear marked inside the mod, with mouldings in the plastic. The reason there’s no polarity on the door is that you can put it on either way up.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Battery Compartment

Inserting a battery (either a 21700 or an 18650 in the adapter) is very simple. Just press it down on the bottom spring loaded contact and it will slot straight in. Removing it is a tiny bit more challenging, as there’s no battery ribbon. However I found that the battery protrudes enough from the back to make it easy to pull out.

The Base

This has your usual regulatory marks and a serial number in White, along with 3 sizeable venting holes.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit BaseScreen and Controls

It’s a DNA board, so it’s quite a known quantity. You have the triangular fire button at the top, which has a very subtle triangular pattern on it. I honestly can’t feel this at all, so I think it’s purely aesthetic rather than improving grip.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Fire ButtonThere’s also a tiny LED light underneath the fire button.

Below this is your 0.9″ TFT DNA 100C screen, full colour (as that’s what the C stands for). Obviously this can be configured using the Escribe software, but the default DNA layout has your resistance at the top right, battery icon in the middle and battery percentage at the top left. Under this is the mode you’re currently in, output reading and settings.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Screen and ControlsAs it’s a DNA device, you navigate the menu with three buttons. Up, Down and Select in the middle. The buttons have a slightly different feel, with the Up and Down having a raised centre section, and the Select in the middle being depressed. This is just a tiny thing to help you navigate by feel.

Due to the three buttons, controls are nice and easy with very little in the way of combinations you need to press!

  • 5x Fire Button – Lock/Unlock the mod (I tend to change to 3x in Escribe)
  • Auto Lock – The mod will automatically lock after a set delay (this is also something I switch off in Escribe)
  • Up/Down – Navigate Screen, your option is highlighted or adjust mode/setting once entered
  • Select – Enter/confirm selected option
  • Modes – Kanthal (Variable Wattage), Watts, Watts Boost, Temperature Control (Nickel 200, Titanium, SS 316, SS 430) Replay

Wattage

In either Kanthal, Watts, or Watts Boost the main control you’ll be changing is the amount of watts. You select this from the front screen by using the up/down buttons, and the centre one to select.

Wattage ranges from 1W to 100W and is adjusted in (sensible) 0.5W increments. If you press and hold one of the adjustment buttons it speeds up, until it’s practically flying up the numbers. It doesn’t round robin, but this isn’t a major issue when it will allow you to scroll so quickly.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Adjustment Buttons

Replay Mode

Replay mode is one of the stand out features for DNA devices, however it’s also one of the more complex in terms of what its doing whilst designed to be easy for the user.

To use it, you need to be using a wire that will work in temp control (Stainless Steel, Nickel or Titanium)

  • Set a roughly appropriate wattage and vape away
  • When the temperature and feel of the vape is what you like stop vaping
  • Select “Save Puff” from the menu
  • When you next vape using replay mode, the screen will show “Playing” as it replays that perfect puff!

Steam Crave Hadron Mini Replay Mode

In the background, the chip is measuring the changing resistance and the wattage that is being supplied, many times a second. When you select “Save Puff” it’s recording this and will replay the same when you next use it. If you’ve never tried temp control before, this is a great place to start!

USB C

Below the buttons is your USB C port, which you can use for charging your battery at 3A! I’m not usually a fan of charging my batteries in mod, but I’m considerably more comfortable doing so on something like a DNA which is well understood.

hadron mini chargingAdditionally you can use the USB C port for linking it to a computer to update your settings via Escribe and it can be even used as an OTG (On The Go) port, to provide power to another device acting like a Power Bank (like charging your phone).

How Does the Steam Crave Hadron Mini Combo Perform?

I’ve been using the Hadron Mini for a little under two weeks now, and during that time I’ve tried a variety of different tanks on it. Obviously since this is a kit review that included the Aromamizer Supreme V3.

All of my thoughts on that RDTA are included in my Hadron Lite Combo Kit Review, and my thoughts haven’t changed in the couple of weeks since I reviewed it. So whilst I’m still reviewing this as a kit, I’ve left off talking about the tank.

But I’ve also used an older Steam Crave tank I was quite a fan of, the Glaz Mini and as the mod for a lower powered MTL, this handles itself beautifully.

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Handcheck with Glaz MiniPerformance

There’s really not a lot to say about the mod here. It’s a DNA 100C with a single 21700 battery. That should tell you that this is a reliable, powerful little device.

Sure it won’t go up as high as a dual battery mod, but the 100C and 21700 is a lovely combo if you want to keep things smaller and don’t need to go into high wattages.

For my thoughts on the Aromamizer Supreme V3 in more details, check out the Hadron Lite Review. But suffice to say it’s a cracking little tank. Maybe not quite up there with some of Steam Crave’s latest and greatest, but still capable of holding its own, with good build quality, huge options and great flavour and cloud production.

Watt Boost

The watt boost mode was designed by Evolv so that they could have one dedicated profile that always had watt boost enabled. If you prefer, you can change any of your modes to have a boost function through Escribe.

So this isn’t a “new” setting, just making it more obvious without having dive into the menus. If you want to edit the power of this, you need to go to Settings>Atomiser and change the “Boost Punch” setting between 1-11. It is set at 8 by default. This give you more power during the first second of firing.

This is roughly analogous to preheat when using temperature control.

By boosting power at the beginning of the fire, it is designed to get your coil up to temperature quicker. This is especially useful for higher mass coils that take a while to get up to temperature.

Not having any particularly slow to heat coils around, I tested it out with what I had.

On its default settings it’s actually very hard to tell the difference. It feels slightly warmer at the start of the draw than previously, but not in an obvious way. This is definitely one of those settings that allows you to really fine tune your vape!

Battery Life

Battery life is always one of those impossible to measure areas from a functional test. It depends on far too many different factors. The exact batteries you’re using, how old they are, what coils you’re using, what wattage you’re firing at, how long you fire for, the list goes on!

Using a 21700 Molicell P42a and pootling around with a mouth to lung tank around 24W, this was easily lasting me through one day and well into the next. To be honest I’d expect nothing less from this combination. So absolutely no complaints with battery life, and I didn’t notice any unexpected battery drain when leaving the mod on the side for a few days.

Finally I didn’t notice the power tapering off at all until the battery got within its last couple of percentage points of power, even when using it nearer 80W.

Any other notes?

The biggest thing that I became aware of with this mod is how easy it falls over! It’s got quite a small base and is very tall, especially with a tall tank like the Aromamizer on it!

Hadron Mini Combo Kit Front ViewSo if you do put it down, be careful not to nudge it over!

Pros

Hadron Mini Mod

  • DNA Chip
  • Fast charging
  • Comfortable in the hand
  • Easy access to battery compartment

Aromamizer Supreme V3 Tank

  • Good flavour
  • Solid performer
  • Wide variety of parts/decks

Cons

Hadron Mini Mod

  • No cut out to more easily remove battery door
  • No battery ribbon
  • Easy to tip over

Aromamizer Supreme V3 Tank

  • Not as impressive as later (bigger!) models
  • Have to be careful when inverting airflow ring (can trap the O-ring)

Final Review Verdict

So that was the Hadron Mini Combo Kit! Again it’s a fantastic little kit from Steam Crave. Like its sibling the Hadron Lite Combo Kit, it’s a single 21700 mod with the Aromamizer Supreme.

The main difference this time is the great DNA 100C board, and the more traditional box factor.

Both of these are cracking little kits, and Steam Crave deserves Kudos for their well thought out kits. The Hadron Mini Combo just feels like a solidly built, high quality kit. You also get a plethora of options with the Aromamizer Supreme V3.

The board that powers it all is a DNA 100C, as this has replaced the older single battery board from Evolv the DNA 75C. As usual, you can tinker to your hearts content with the Escribe software. Whilst you can control all the major functions on the mod, the Escribe software lets you customise it exactly as you want.

With a maximum 25mm tank size, this will suit a large variety of single coil RTAs and RDAs. It’s not the mod I’d choose for a massive dual coil RDA, but it performs flawlessly in what it’s designed for.

In for review today I have the Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL RTA.aromamizer classic mtl rta banner

Those of you expecting an RDTA the size of a half-brick may be disappointed however, as Steam Crave have shrunk everything down for another mouth to lung tank.

If you are unsure of the term “Mouth To Lung” or “MTL” read our Guide To Vape Styles.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Product Shot

Steam Crave have previously dabbled in mouth to lung, there was the Glaz mini, which I scored very highly and was quite a “traditional” MTL design and the Mini Robot RTA, which we never reviewed, but had a traditional deck, with an interesting top airflow controlled by pins.

The Aromamizer Classic is something different again!

What Can We Expect From The Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL RTA?

With this RTA, Steam Crave have leaned heavily on the design of their bigger Aromamizers. You’ve got a deck that slots into the bottom, and is held in by a screw on base, side airflow, and the main tank section sitting at the top.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Fun View

One of the most interesting additions is the external airflow control.aromamizer classic airflow

No airflow control ring here, instead your airflow is controlled by little pins that you screw in to the side. Very similar to a design that we’ve seen for under coil airflow from lots of other companies, but with the benefit that you can change these at any time, without removing your build. Provided you have a screwdriver with you!

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Single Airflow Pin

During my testing, I’ve been using it on the Steam Crave Hadron Lite and honestly I think this combo is a match made in heaven. Whilst it’s got a slightly smaller diameter than the maximum the Hadron Lite will accept (23mm vs 25mm), it looks good together.

This was sent over for the purpose of review, (thank you) as usual, this will in no way influence the review, and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL RTA – Design and Build Quality

It’s a very understated little RTA, available in either Stainless Steel or Black (which I received).

In the photos on their site, they seem to show a rather ugly (in my opinion!) red o-ring, I’m pleased to report that this was a clear one on the version I received!

There’s some branding on the main section with the Steam Crave logo and name on one side and “Aromamizer Classic MTL RTA” on the other, but as it’s engraved it’s pretty subtle. In fact it’s very hard to even see on the black version.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Box

As usual for Steam Crave, everything is presented very nicely in a smart box. The small plastic box contains all your spares as well as your airflow pins.

Drip Tip

You get a choice of two drip tips in the pack, the one it comes with is what I stuck with, as it’s a comfortable MTL drip tip and I much prefer vaping mouth to lung with something that flares out a bit at the top. It’s a metal drip tip, and therefore colour matched to your RTA.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Drip TipsYou do also get a straight Delrin drip tip in the box. Nothing terribly special about this, and perfectly serviceable if you prefer a simple drip tip. The only thing to note is that being made of Delrin, it’s black regardless of which version of the RTA you get.

Top Cap

My first (minor) niggle is that it’s not a bayonet fit top cap, instead you have to unscrew it. When you do you’re presented with two decently sized fill holes, and I had no problems with this.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Top Cap and Filly Ports

As someone that still routinely uses bottom refilling RTAs for mouth to lung, having to unscrew the top cap rather than just twist it off is a very minor negative for me. You do have some fine knurling at the top to help you get a decent grip.

Deck

Like it’s (much) bigger brothers, the deck of the Aromamizer Classic MTL is inserted into the bottom of the tank, and held in place by screwing on the bottom plate. There’s a couple of little slots that the tabs on the deck fit into, to make sure you align it correctly.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Deck Fitment

The deck itself is single coil deck with two posts that you drop your coil legs into, before securing them with an Allen key.

One thing that I immediately noticed when first setting this up is that you have to wrap your coil anti-clockwise. This isn’t an issue for me at all as I wrap my coils by hand, but if you buy pre-built coils it’s worth keeping in mind.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Deck

There’s a couple of notches at either end that help with positioning your coil by allowing you to rest a coiling tool on them. And your e-liquid flows into the bottom through a couple of feed holes in the wick cups.

Airflow Pins

The airflow pins are probably the star of the show as far as the Aromamizer Classic is concerned. These little metal pins have a screw thread, and a flat-head notch on the other end, with a hole running down their length for the air to travel.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Airflow Pin Replacement

Changing them is as simple as using a flat head screwdriver to unscrew them from the bottom and putting in the ones that you want. I found it was easiest to unscrew them slightly so that they protrude out the side, after which you could finish unscrewing them by hand.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Airflow Pins

You get a good collection of these in the kit, with two each of the 2mm, 1.5mm, 1mm and 0.8mm as well as a single “blank” airflow pin with no hole (not pictured).

The chamber inside is very restricted, which should help with the flavour. And the pins fit inside to restrict it even further. Jetting the air directly at where your coil is sitting.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Chamber one Airflow Pin Retracted

These all have the diameter of the hole marked on them, although you need decent eye sight to see it due to their size.

Base

As mentioned, the base of the RTA screws over the deck, with the 510 connection from the deck fitting through a hole in the base plate.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Base

You have your usual regulatory marks and “Designed By BJSHI”, a name that is familiar as the designer of many of Steam Crave’s products.

How To Build the Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic

You first step is going to be making sure that you have a coil that suits the deck. I would recommend something like a 2.5mm ID, but the most important thing is that the coil has to be wrapped anticlockwise. The legs should be slightly spread.

It is possible to adjust a clockwise wrapped coil, by bending the legs so they cross over underneath the coil and come down on the other side. However that’s a bit of a faff if you don’t need to.

  • Unscrew the deck screws.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Unscrew Post Screws

  • Place your coil legs into the post holes, and tighten up the screws. You can use the guides on the deck to rest your coiling tool in to make sure that you get the position correct.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Position Coil

  • Once the coil is tightened down and positioned, glow the coil and strum with ceramic tweezers to remove any hot spots.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Glow Coils and Strum

  • Feed the wick through your coil.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Insert Cotton

  • Cut the wick such that it will drop down into the wick cups.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Trim Cotton

  • Place your wick into the wick ports, don’t force it down or compress it too much.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Place Wick

  • Prime your coil with plenty of e-liquid.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Prime with E-liquid

  • To remove your deck from the build station, the easiest way to do this is to put the top section of the tank back on, and slot the deck into place, as you will then be able to unscrew it as one piece.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Remove Deck from Build Station

  • Once you have the deck and top section of the tank, reattach the base of the tank and screw it down tight.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Attach Bottom Plate

  • Fill your tank with your preferred e-liquid.

  • Finally, screw the top cap back on and you’re good to go!

How Does the Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL RTA Perform?

As anyone that has read my reviews will know, I’m a big fan of mouth to lung vaping. I’m always on the hunt to find the “perfect” tank. Flavour, airflow control, build quality, and ease of use, in that order, are my criteria.

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL Handcheck

As I always do when testing a mouth to lung tank, I have loaded it up with my all day e-liquid SVC Lab’s “Berry Ice” at 50/50 VG/PG. I know this liquid better than any other, so it’s always what I benchmark mouth to lung tanks with.

Airflow

With a range of airflow options I started off with the pins that are in the tank when you buy it, 2x 1mm. It’s definitely a mouth to lung draw at this level of restriction. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the tightest possible draw, this configuration is a 3.

For me personally, I felt it was a little loose. I like a mouth to lung vape to really suck at your cheeks a little! So I swapped over to the 0.8mm airflow pins, and this was far more to my taste. The tightness now is between a 1.5 and a 2.

What’s interesting is that the airflow has a different “feel” to it, compared to a bottom airflow tank. It’s got a slightly odd “looseness” to it. Not a bad thing, but definitely different to what you may be used to from a mouth to lung tank.

Switching the airflow to a looser configuration, you have the 1.5mm and 2.0mm options, these give a draw of 4 and 6. At its widest, it is almost possible to manage a very restrictive direct lung draw.

Of course there is nothing to stop you mixing and matching the pins to get the exact level of restriction that you want. With the blank pin, you can even restrict it to a single 0.8mm, which gives a very tight draw indeed!

Flavour

Well, my number one question when it comes to a mouth to lung tank is “how is the flavour?”

The flavour is seriously impressive! I’m using my favourite type of mouth to lung coil, a superfine mouth to lung Clapton in Stainless Steel, with a resistance of 0.5Ω. As I mentioned in the airflow section, it has a slightly different “feel” to a bottom airflow tank, but the flavour is on point.

In fact its standing toe-to-toe with my favourite ever mouth to lung tank. So I am very impressed. In fact it’s so good that I’m planning on buying another of these tanks in Stainless Steel to match some of my other mods.

Pros

  • Great flavour
  • Nice build quality and design
  • Easy to build

Cons

  • Screw down top cap
  • Not suitable for people who like to change their airflow whilst vaping
  • Coil should be wrapped anticlockwise (or you need to bend the legs so they cross over)

Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL RTA – Final Review Verdict

So that was the Steam Crave Aromamizer Classic MTL and honestly this is one of the nicest little RTA’s I’ve reviewed in quite a long time!

It’s not going to be for everyone, especially as you can’t really adjust your airflow on the go. You pick your airflow pins, and then you stick with it. The only other option is to be carrying round the pins and a flat headed screwdriver with you.

But honestly I think that’s a reasonable compromise. Especially with mouth to lung tanks, I tend to find what I like, and then keep the airflow there.

The only other real con about this tank is that you ideally should have your coil wrapped anticlockwise. It’s not a major issue, as it is possible to adjust your coils to work if they’re wrapped clockwise. But it’s much easier to just start off with an anticlockwise coil.

Other than that, I wish it had a bayonet fit top cap, but I’m really nit-picking there!

On the positives, it’s got some of the best flavour I have had from a mouth to lung RTA. The airflow control is spot on once you find the combination of pins that suits you and as with all Steam Crave tanks, it’s really nicely put together. Everything comes apart easily, threads are smooth, and the build quality is great throughout.

It’s still very early in 2022, but I would say that this tank is now the one to beat!

In for review this week we have the Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit which is an RDTA and mod kit.Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Product Shot

The Steam Crave name is mostly associated with some of the biggest tanks and mods on the market, such as the Hadron 220 mod and the Ragnar RDTA, or more recently the Hadron Plus Combo Kit. They have occasionally made smaller things, like one of their very rare MTL RTAs I reviewed back at the end of 2019, the Glaz Mini.

This time they’ve decided to enter the side-by-side field, with what looks to be a very interesting kit!

What Can We Expect From The Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit?

The Hadron Lite kit is made up of two parts, you’ve got the single 21700 side by side mod, the Hadron Lite, and also the Aromamizer Supreme V3.

I’m a massive fan of side by side mods, so I was very excited to get my hands on this. It’s got all the things that I want in a modern device, a 21700 battery, and USB C charging, couple that with an interesting fire button placement, and you’ve got an intriguing mod.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Full Shot

The RDTA part of the kit will hold no surprises for long term Steam Crave fans. In fact, we first previewed the Aromamizer Supreme V3 back in September of 2020, so it’s quite a known quantity by now. You get all the bells and whistles that Steam Crave are known for, with interchangeable chimneys, 3 choices of deck, juice flow control and rock solid build quality.

The reason for including this RDTA in the kit is mostly down to size. Steamcrave are known for their large tanks (28mm+) and this just doesn’t work well with the side by side form factor. Hence why there’s a slightly older (but smaller) RDTA on this new mod.

Design and Build Quality

The Hadron Lite Combo Kit comes in two colour ways. Either Gunmetal, or Black (which I received).

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit Colourways

Also a special note goes out to the lovely box it comes in. It feels like a quality kit when you open it up. Always a nice feeling!

The Aromamizer Supreme V3 RDTA

This is a lovely RDTA in the Steam Crave style, and whilst it may not be as recent as some of their other designs, it is still quite a little performer with plenty of options.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo DisassembledWith Steam Crave RDTAs, the deck is at the bottom of the tank, with airflow coming in from the sides. The deck has the 510 connector on it, and is held in place by a screw on section at the base.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Deck Configuration

The Decks

I was delighted to see that you get three different deck options with the Aromamizer in this kit. Whereas previously you would have had to buy the advanced kit to get the mesh deck, this is now bundled in.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Decks

Pre-installed in the tank you’ll find the single coil deck. This gives you both side and bottom airflow, with your coil legs going in horizontally into the posts.

Next up is the postless deck, you can run this either as a single coil or a dual coil, and the air hits the coils directly from the side.

Finally you have the mesh deck, with a couple of different mesh types to try. Like the postless deck, the airflow comes in from the side for this one.

In both of the last two options you also have the option to install a squonk pin (that comes supplied) so you’ve got plenty of options here!

Airflow Control

The Steam Crave airflow control ring hasn’t changed much in its time, so if you’ve owned one before you’ll be very familiar with it here. It’s a dual sided honeycomb airflow, with 3 different selections of cyclops slots to control the amount. Either 1 line, 2 lines or 3 lines.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit Airflow Control and Juice Flow Control

To add to this, you can also invert the airflow control ring, so the two lines can either be the bottom two, or the upper two collection of holes in the honeycomb.

Juice Flow Control

Just above the Airflow Control is the Juice Flow control.

This is one of the things I really like about these tanks. A really well built, reliable juice flow control. You’ve got very clear markings to let you know when it is open and when it is closed, and you can use it both to totally shut off the e-liquid, but also adjust it dependent on how much freedom you want to give it.

For example with thicker e-liquid (80/20 and above) you will likely want it fully open, however with thinner e-liquid, you may need to close it off some more.

Chimney Options

You actually also get two chimney options in the kit, a 7mm for greater airflow and vapour production (useful for dual coils) and a 5mm that restricts this slightly, more designed for single coiling which is pre-installed

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Chimney Options

How To Fill The Steam Crave Aromamizer Supreme V3

Filling is nice and simple with top fill.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo How to Fill

  • Close the juice flow control
  • Quarter turn the top cap to remove it and expose the 2 big fill holes
  • Fill with you preferred e-liquid
  • Replace the top cap
  • Open the juice flow control

Base of RDTA

The base of the RDTA has your usual regulatory marks, as well as “Designed by BJSHI”.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit Base of Tank

The Hadron Lite Mod

As I’ve said before I’m a big fan of side-by-side mods, and this one ticks a lot of boxes. I think it’s a really handsome looking mod, quite sleek with a lot of curves to it.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Mod

Charging

USB C charging should be compulsory for any mod that does internal charging, however it still seems to be a bit of a rarity. Happily not only do you have a USB C port on this device, it is a “proper” USB C port.

One thing I’ve noticed with a lot of other supposed “USB C” chargeable devices, is that you actually have to charge them with a USB A to C cable. They don’t charge with a C to C cable. Happily that’s not the case here!

I’m not sure what the charging speed is, but the Steam Crave Hadron Plus charges at 3A, and was released at a similar time, so it bodes well!

Screen and Controls

You only got 3 buttons on the mod. The fire button is unusually placed at the highest point, directly on top of the battery compartment. Side by side mods seem to have quite a variety in terms of where they put the fire button.

It’s often on the short front of the mod, under the tank, occasionally on the long side, level with the top of the tank, but this is the first time I’ve seen it placed here. I’ll go over how this is in use later in the review.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Fire Button

The + and – buttons are underneath the base of the mod.

The controls are as follows:

  • 5 Clicks – Power On/Off
  • 3 Click – Switch between Wattage/Voltage/TC SS/TC Ni/TC Ti/Bypass
  • “-” and Fire (2 seconds) – Lock/Unlock adjustment buttons
  • “+” and Fire (2 seconds) – Clear puff counter (Yes/No)
  • “-” and “+” – Flip Screen

It’s a clear little monochromatic screen with your battery shown at the far left, with the current coil resistance over the puff counter next to it.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Screen

Then there is you main changeable value (Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, Temperature Control, etc) with a symbol denoting which mode you are in. Finally you have the volts being drawn (or watts being drawn if you are in voltage mode) and length of draw.

Adjustment

Changing your wattage, or voltage/temperature dependent on mode, is controlled by the two little buttons on the base. Clicking a button once will raise it in 1 full watt, pressing and holding with scroll, going into a faster scroll after a short delay.

One thing that I noticed though, is that unlike almost every mod I’ve used, it does not round robin. You get to the maximum wattage, it says “Max Power” and then stops. The only way to get from 100W to 5W, is to scroll all the way down.

Honestly, some people might think this is a negative, but despite the fact that almost every mod does round robin, it’s not something I ever really remember using. And from a positive point of view, it does remove the possibility that using a high ohm MTL coil, you drop it all the way down to 5W and end up at 100W by mistake. Mmmm…. melty.

Battery Compartment

For those that don’t like them, I’m afraid it’s a screw down battery cap!

I’ve never really objected to them, however this one feels a little on the “cheap” side to me. It has some relatively sharp edges to it. Having said that, it does the job, and there’s some nice big venting holes as well.

When you first open the compartment, you’ll find there’s an 18650 adapter installed. But you can just slide this out and use it with your favourite 21700.

Tank Compatibility

You can fit up to a 25mm diameter tank on here, which definitely opens up the possibilities. A lot of SBS’s restrict you quite heavily on the size of thank.

One thing to note is that you can’t use the included bubble glass with the Aromamizer Supreme V3, as this won’t fit.

How Does the Steamcrave Hadron Lite Combo Kit Perform?

I’ve been using this kit for several weeks now, and whilst I like the tank, it’s probably not going to go into my permanent rotation, I have the Aromamizer Plus V2 for a bit of Steam Crave goodness.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit Handcheck

The mod on the other hand, is definitely going to get used. In fact I’m already reviewing another RDTA from Steam Crave that fits it quite nicely!

Aromamizer Supreme V3 RDTA

As I’ve mentioned, the Aromamizer Supreme V3 is not one of Steam Crave’s recent tanks. And I think its inclusion here is more down to having something that would fit, and be more interesting to most people than one of their MTL tanks.

One big positive though is the inclusion of so many different options. Having the three different decks, plus the different chimney, gives you a lot of scope for finding out how you like to vape it.

I’ve always thought Steam Crave tanks are great for people that like to tinker and experiment, as you can play around to find what suits you.

Flavour

If you’ve ever owned a Steam Crave tank, you know what to expect. It’s got a lot of flavour, and with the options that you get, you can really spend some time tinkering to get your perfect set up.

It’s maybe not quite as impressive anymore as it was when it came out. But it still holds its own.

Cloud Production

Again, there’s no surprises here. You can quite happily fog out a room, especially if you’re using a dual coil setup on the postless deck with some chunky coils.

However I found that I actually preferred this tank using the single coil deck with a bit more restriction to the airflow.

Hadron Lite Mod

In the hand it’s a really comfortable mod, it’s got a decent amount of heft to it.

I thought at first that the top mounted fire button might be a bit of a problem, but in use it actually works surprisingly well. It’s definitely aimed at thumb firers, but if you’re a finger firer it will work ok as well.

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Left or Right handed

The only thing to be careful of if you use your finger is to avoid covering the airflow to whatever tank you’re using.

Battery life is of course going to be totally dependent on the battery you use and the wattage that you run it at. But only having a small mono chromatic screen, I certainly didn’t notice any excess battery drain.

Pros

Hadron Lite Mod

  • Very comfortable
  • Proper USB C Charging!
  • 21700 on a Side-By-Side

Aromamizer Supreme V3 Tank

  • Good flavour
  • Solid performer
  • Wide variety of parts/deck

Cons

Hadron Lite Mod

  • Battery cap feels a little cheap
  • No round robin

Aromamizer Supreme V3 Tank

  • Not as impressive as later (bigger!) models
  • Have to be careful when inverting airflow ring

Steam Crave Hadron Lite Combo Kit Final Review Verdict

So all in all, Steam Crave have produced a cracking little combo here.

But would I recommend that you rush out and get it?

I think it comes down to two questions, do you already own a Steam Crave tank? One of the bigger brothers to the Supreme V3 RDTA. Then I’d probably skip getting the kit. The Supreme is still a cracking little tank, but it’s not quite in the same league as the big ones.

If you haven’t got a Steam Crave tank already? Then it’s a great little combo to get the mod and the tank together.

Finally if you’re just after a really nice little side by side, you can get the mod on its own.

Al in all, it’s a solid kit and I’m very pleased with it. If you like a side-by-side, then it’s a cracking one.

The Steam Crave Hadron Plus Combo Kit is from a brand that are well known for their large tanks, devices and kits and this one is no different.

The original Hadron was a towering dual 21700 device that when bought in kit form, came with a monstrous 35mm Ragnar RDTA

But it seems Steam Crave wanted another shot at the Hadron, completely changing the style, shape and even the chipset and this time around they’ve included the Aromamizer Plus V2 RDTA to make this kit, perhaps a little more of a daily carry?

What Can We Expect From The Hadron Plus Combo Kit by Steam Crave?

Starting off with the Aromamizer Plus V2 RDTA, a 30mm RDTA which you could argue is actually an RTA – with a tank above the deck (much like an RTA) but with the juice actually filling a reservoir below the deck.

The Combo kit comes with two decks, a 4-terminal post-less deck designed for regular coils, and a Mesh Deck as well. Along with this there are also three other decks available. A Single Coil Deck, Series Deck and a Velocity Style Deck!

The Aromamizer itself has a capacity of 8ml and with the included extension section, you can double this to 16ml!

The Hadron Plus is a Dual 21700 device which is powered by a DNA250c chip meaning Steam Crave are really going for top marks with this one.

The DNA250c chipset features accurate temperature control, Watts boost modes and a Replay mode and also includes a Pass-Thru charge option.

Furthermore the Hadron Plus can hold up to a 34mm diameter atomiser on top and can obviously be upgraded and updated via the Escribe software.

Colours

The Steam Crave Hadron Plus Combo kit is available in Black, Gunmetal and Grey, but if you’re just interested in the RDTA there is also a Gold anniversary edition available as well.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Gunmetal variant of the Hadron Plus Combo Kit which although I’m more into black devices, I actually quite like how well the Aromamizer and Hadron Plus mod go together in Gunmetal – Looking very industrial!

The Tank

Drip Tip &Top Cap:

The Aromamizer V2 RDTA makes use of a wide-bore 810 drip tip and the top-cap itself is nicely engraved, the engraving is clear and well manufactured, if not a little bit of a juice/dirt trap.

The top-cap includes slotted sections on either side for additional grip in order twist the top-cap anti-clockwise to access the fill port.

Top Fill Port:

Once the top-cap is removed, you expose two giant kidney shaped fill ports and also a wide central bore that’ll look right into the deck – this is where you may want to consider using one of the 6mm reducers if you find the airflow too much, or you just prefer a tighter draw.

Glass Tube & Extension Tube:

The Combo kit comes with a spare glass tube along with an extension tube, which when installed, increases the capacity to 16ml. Granted it also makes the tank a lot taller, but if a lack of capacity is a problem with you current tank – The Aromamizer V2 might be an option.

Installing the extension tank is barely a chore, remove the Top-Cap is all that’s required before screwing down the extension piece,

Juice-Flow Control:

JFC (Juice-Flow Control) is a lovely little feature, especially handy on larger capacity devices.

With all that capacity, there is every chance pouring 16ml of e-liquid into a tank could flood the deck – So that’s where juice-flow control comes in handy.

Firstly when filling, you can easily close the JFC and then once filled, slowly open the JFC allowing the e-liquid to slowly hit the cotton.

Secondly, in some instances you may find the pure weight of e-liquid is just too much for the cotton and deck to handle, so being able to limit the amount of juice to flow to the deck may come in handy.

Personally – Once filled, I open the JCF all the way up and I’ve never had an issue. But either way the option is there and the feature works well.

Airflow Control:

The AFC on the Aromamizer Plus V2 is similar to a number of other Steam Crave atomisers, but it works well and allows for plenty of options when it comes to restriction, or a lack of restriction if that’s your bag.

The AFC ring itself is removable and adjusts nice and smoothly.

Build Decks:

The Combo kit comes with two decks. The first is a Post-less deck which can be used for a single, or dual coil build.

However it could be said, due to the size of this deck, the space between the positive and negative posts aren’t very wide, meaning your larger/wider coils might be a bit of a squeeze.

The Mesh Deck included allows for a single mesh strip and Steam Crave kindly include 2 mesh strips in the box, along with some chunky cotton strips.

Both decks are push-fitted from the base and have slots on either side to ensure they’re fitted correctly.

By removing the base of the RDTA, you can pull out the deck and thanks to the 510 connector, you can screw the deck directly onto an atomiser or building block for building and firing etc.

The Base:

The base has the expected 510 connector with slightly protruding 510 pin and a decent looking peak insulator. Also stated is ‘Designed by BJ Shi’ who, correct me if I’m wrong, is responsible for a number of successful Steam Crave atomisers and kits.

Tank – Overall:

Overall the general build quality, construction and options on the Aromamizer Plus V2 RDTA are diverse and high quality.

Granted its not a simple plug and play tank, it perhaps requires a little more of your time and patience but if a larger atomiser is your thing, I think you’ll be happy with the quality of the Aromamizer V2 RDTA.

The Hadron Plus Box Mod:

510 Connector:

At the top of the device is a spring-mounted 510 connector and rather than your usual rounded cover plate, is an oddly rectangular shaped plate which actually looks quite nice, there’s some weird engraved print on the plate, but once a tank is fitted, you don’t see it so its not a problem.

Due to the shape of the Hadron Plus, the widest point of the top is 34mm meaning if you fancy a larger atomiser, the device has the space for it without overhang.

Having said that, even with the 35mm Ragnar RDTA on top, the over-hang is so small, its barely noticeable and wouldn’t bother me personally.

Micro USB Port:

If you’re familiar with the Evolv and the DNA chips, you’ll know that the DNA75c and the DNA250c make use of a Micro-USB port for charging, now sure a Micro-USB port is now somewhat outdated due to USB-C now being the way to go.

The new Evolv DNA100c has a USB-C port so I assume in future, we may see the 75c and 250c variant will also be upgraded to USB-C. But for now, we’re left with the Micro-USB.

Nonetheless, the device still offers a 3 Amp charge if you need it, but personally I recommend not charging above 2 amp or better still, charge the batteries externally.

Of course the Micro USB port is where the magic happens and by connecting to a PC and the Escribe software, you can make many changes to the Theme, power output and even track how your device performs when firing.

Its a fairly simple bit of software but can make huge changes to how your device performs and looks. Well worth tinkering with if you’re into those kind of things.

The Front of the Device

The front of the device, is actually really the side of the device, at least that’s where the display, fire button, adjustment buttons and USB port is.

The first thing I notice about the Hadron Plus is how low the fire button is in comparison to the height of the device. I guess this is due to the design of the DNA250c chipset but looking at this side, the fire button just seems too low.

The Battery Door

The battery door fits almost seamlessly onto the side of the device and is held in place magnetically. There is a small notch in the base of the device that allows you to lift/remove the battery door, exposing your battery housing.

Installing two batterie isn’t a problem, and I know some people aren’t fans of Battery removal ribbons, but I really feel the Hadron Plus could do with one as removing the batteries can be a little bit of a pain.

Externals:

The Hadron Plus doesn’t really have many external features to really talk about. It’s a rectangular boxy shape with all the fun buttons on one side and some engraving on the other. Apart from that, its just a big box really!

At the base of the device is a large amount of holes for battery venting should the the worse happen.

The Hadron Plus – Overall:

Aesthetically – The Hadron Plus isn’t the most glamorous of devices. It’s big, boxy and fairly heavy with two 21700 batteries installed. Yes for some reason, I like it!

Firstly quality wise its very good, decent smooth paint finish with some nice engraving on one side and obviously the chipset included really toots my trumpet. But the position of the fire button kind of annoys me.

What I like about the Hadron Plus, especially in comparison to the original Hadron and the Titan, is this rectangular shape. It’s a shape I really like in devices like the Lost Vape Centaurus or Thelema. Or for that matter, devices like the Geekvape Aegis Legend or Voopoo Drag Max.

Regardless of the size of the Hadron Plus, its still fairly comfortable to hold. Just a little on the large side.

In The Hand

The Hadron Plus, loaded up with two 21700 batteries and the Aromamizer Plus V2, filled with 16ml of e-liquid makes you feel like a bricklayer.

Not only that, you’ll look like you’re about to clobber someone round the loaf of bread! Ok enough Cockney Slang for one day. Blame watching Snatch whilst typing this.

Its a big mod, with a large tank and with that in mind you have to consider this isn’t the type of kit you can carry in your pocket. For sure you’ll get decent battery life and great performance from the DNA chipset but is that enough to sacrifice for portability?

How Does the Hadron Plus Combo Kit perform?

Hadron Plus DNA250c Display

If you’re familiar with the DNA250c or DNa75c, there is nothing new to see here.

Steam Crave didn’t even go to the extent of adding their own custom theme, it’s just the default Evolv screen, and that carries on to the other menu pages and profiles.

If you’re not familiar with the DNA chip and how they operated, here are the basics.

Hadron Plus DNA250c Basic Operation

All DNA Colour screens come with 3, yes 3 buttons. Simply put, these are Up, Select and Down from top to bottom.

When you first put your batteries into the Hadron Plus, you’ll be greeted with what we’ll call the ‘Lock Screen’.

Like most devices, it’ll show the usual Battery Level, Coil resistance etc, but you cant vape it just yet, nope.

One thing you’ll discover with any DNA device is that you cant switch it off as such, only lock it, which eventually will put it to sleep – that might be a bit annoying to some of you?

Five clicks of the fire button and you enter the main page, what they call the ‘Profile’ page – now you can start vaping.

At first you’ll get a page asking if you’re using a new coil, which will display the resistance, and if you’re happy, click yes.

Pressing the Up or down buttons will highlight the different options, and which ever one you want to adjust, simply click the adjust buttons and you’re off.

Hadron Plus DNA250c Main Menu

Within the main menu is a plethora of options:

Atomizer

Anything to do with your tank or dripper will be stated in here, right down to the temperature.

You can also adjust the punch from 0-11 which will give you a boost of power at the initial start of your vape to help with coil ramp-up times.

Puff Info

If you’re into fancy graphs and statistics, Puff Info will be right up your street. You can browse through your vaping history to see the length of each of your previous vapes, the wattage it reached and voltage information.

Diagnostics

A load of information is listed on this page which will state almost everything you need to know about the device, the RTA/RDA/Tank along with the temperature of the Chipset and USB voltage.

Loads of information for those who like that kind of thing.

System

In System you can make the necessary changes to the brightness of the display, the time and date and which unit the device will measure in.

Building The Post-less Deck

I went for a pair of Aliens from Proper Coils for the build on the post-less Deck. Here’s how I built it:

  1. Loosen the deck grub screws, the holes are quite small so I found opening the terminals fully made it easy enough to fit the coils.

2. I cut my coil at 5.5mm as I that gave me some space between the deck whilst keeping my coils in line with the central airflow. Fit the coils and make sure the terminals are tight before lining the coils up straight with the deck

3. Pulse the coils at a low wattage and strum gently with a ceramic tool to ensure an even glow.

4. Once cooled, feed your cotton through the coils. I found trimming the cotton just past the edge of the deck worked well and be sure to thin out the ends of the cotton to ensure better wicking.

5. Gently position the cotton into the ports, making sure the cotton fills the gaps but doesn’t block them up too tightly.

6. Saturate the cotton with e-liquid and make sure its nice and wet before fitting the deck into the atomiser.

Generally speaking, building on this deck is fairly painless, however it must be said the terminals are quite close together, and fairly small – So you could have the option of using one single large coil.

Building the Mesh Deck

Steam Crave include two Mesh strips in the kit along with a Mesh forming tool. Here’s how I built it:

  1. Loosen the two Philips head screws which will open up the mesh clamps.

2. Form one of the Mesh strips around the supplied forming tool. Make sure to form the mesh strip nice and straight, you’ll be surprised how easy it is to kink or damage the mesh by slightly twisting it.

3. Fit the mesh into the deck, ensuring its fitted straight and carefully tighten the screws. Once done, ensure the mesh is straight in the terminals.

4. Pulse the mesh at a low wattage to remove any grease or machine oil and you should get an even glow across the mesh

5. Pull the large cotton strip through the mesh strip, a little push and pull will leave the cotton snug under the mesh.

6. Cut the mesh at an angle, just past the deck.

7.After a light fluff out of the cotton, gently form the cotton into the wicking ports.

8. Spend the next 10 minutes saturating the cotton with e-liquid and fit the deck inside the atomiser.

Generally speaking, the Mesh deck is a breeze to build on, much like the majority of mesh build decks.

Of course the juggling act is the amount of cotton you use, and just how much excess cotton you leave to cram into the ports.

It took me a few builds to get it right and the truth is, the large capacity e-liquid helps to push the liquid through the cotton so in essence you have more room to play with than with most standard capacity Mesh RTA’s and RDTA’s.

Flavour & Clouds

For the duration of my testing, I was vaping on Code Red by Darkstar that I mix to 80VG 20PG at 3mg.

The Post-Less Deck

The dual alien build came out at 0.1Ω which on the majority of devices may not fire, but fortunately the DNA250c chipset in the Hadron Plus fires down to 0.05Ω so no problems there.

At 100 watts with the airflow set at two full rows open, the draw is surprisingly smooth and the flavour is very good indeed.

100w isn’t a crazy wattage to put through a 0.1Ω build so the vape is tepid/warm at best but nonetheless you get excellent vapour production and considering the size of this tank, the draw is super smooth and a wonderful vape.

The Mesh Deck

The Mesh build comes out at 0.16Ω and is recommended between 35 and 70 watts. After a bit of tinkering, I found the sweet spot at 65 watts with two airflow slots opened.

Granted, Its still not the most stellar vape I’ve experienced from a Mesh Deck but it certainly produces clouds of vapour and is also very smooth. But in my honest opinion, I’ve had more flavourful vapes from other Mesh tanks.

Pros

Hadron Plus Mod

  • Great performer thanks to the chipset
  • Seem-less battery door cover
  • Can fit large atomiser

Aromamizer Plus V2 Tank

  • Excellent build quality
  • Smooth airflow
  • Extendable to 16ml capacity
  • Forgiving with regards to wicking the post-less deck
  • Juice-Flow control a winner for me

Cons

Hadron Plus Mod

  • Very large and bulky
  • Fire button is positioned too low

Aromamizer Plus V2 Tank

  • Build deck is massively limited by its width
  • Mesh Deck doesn’t produce enough flavour.

Final Review Verdict

First things first. This kit won’t be for everyone.

If, like me, you’ve always been intrigued by Steam Crave’s large variants, then I genuinely think this may be their best option yet.

Why you might ask?

Well first of all the Hadron Plus carries the ever popular, trustworthy DNA250c chipset which gives this device the full beans it truly needs.

Sure the looks of the device might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s a bulky, fairly plain dual 21700 mod but regardless of its looks, it functions well and the battery door makes for a solid fit, even if I do feel like the battery housing could do with the addition of a battery removal ribbon.

What really sets this off against previous Steam Crave kits, is the Aromamizer Plus V2 RDTA. Sure, the larger Ragnar and Titan RDTA’s are nice and certainly an experience to use a massive tank, but the Aromamizer V2 scales things down just enough to be practical yet keeping the things that we love so much about Steam Crave tanks.

So the 3 big questions I ask when testing a product are:

Would this kit be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

The company generally make very good quality tanks and devices and the Steam Crave Hadron Plus Combo Kit is no different.

If you plan on using this kit as a daily carry, I’m sure you can expect the odd scratch and bump to the Hadron Plus, but I’ve no doubts the chipset and the high build quality of the Aromamizer Plus V2 will take you way into 2023.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Mesh Deck in all honesty, and as a self confessed Mesh fan I’m a little disappointed. However when it comes to my experiences with the post-less deck its pretty difficult to really pick out any cons with regards to performance.

The main thing you notice when vaping on this tank is just how smooth the vape is, with the airflow dialled down slightly the draw is so smooth and enjoyable and the flavour is excellent with the right build.
