The Pioneer 4 You IPV V200 Mod is a new release from a company which has been quieter lately.

ipv v200 previewThis brand has been popular over the years – I reviewed the IPV 8 mod back in 2017 plus other versions include the IPV D2 and IPV 4.

What To Expect From The Pioneer 4 You IPV V200 Mod…

The main selling point in the IPV products is the YiHi chipset, which is also used in a lot of SX Mini devices too.

ipv v200 components

This time it is the YiHi SX531 which has also been given a waterproof jacket to help prevent the chip from becoming damaged from water or liquid ingress.ipv v200 chip

You will need 2×18650 batteries for this which are not included in the kit and the output is rated at 5-200 / 6.4-8.4V.ipv v200 batteries

Access to the batteries is via the removable side panels which are also interchangeable if you want to replace them for an update.

A USB Type C port is provided with a 2A balance charge system.ipv v200 safety

The vaping data is displayed on the colour 0.96in TFT display and you have several user modes to choose from.

You have the standard Variable Wattage, plus “Flavour curves” of Soft, Normal and Strong.ipv v200 flavour curves

Plus you can customise your own power curves.ipv v200 custom curves

The mod is suitable for 30mm diameter atomisers or less so no worries about overhang with most attys on the market.ipv v200 features

When it comes to the colours available the information available is confusing. Pioneer 4 You state on their website that there are 2 colours – Woven Blue and Umber Brown. However some vendors with this mod on Pre-order only offer Woven Blue and Black. So who knows what colours you will be able to choose from!

More Details On The Pioneer 4 You IPV U710 Mod…

As you can see the styling is pretty familiar with the screw on battery compartment cap which reminds me of the Eleaf Pico range and the Vaporesso Swag line.
Pioneer 4 You IPV U710 components

Power is supplied from a single 18650 battery which is not included in the kit and this fits into the mod and secured with the battery cap.Pioneer 4 You IPV U710 battery

As with this style of mod – sometimes the space required for the battery cap can reduce how much space is left for an atomiser. Luckily P4Y state this mod is compatible with tanks 24mm and lower diameter.Pioneer 4 You IPV U710 features

A USB Type C port is included for charging at a 2A charge rate.

The side of the mod houses the 0.96in TFT colour display and the whole show is controlled by the waterproof YiHi SX710 chipset.Pioneer 4 You IPV U710 yihi chip

The output is 5-80W in standard variable wattage mode plus there are Soft, Normal or Strong flavour modes.u710 flavour curves

You can also create your own power curves and store up to 3 of them for future use.u710 custom curves

Sadly there is no mention of what colours will be available – I can only assume the colour shown in the website photos?

The Pioneer 4 You / YIHI IPV A1 kit is a release from a brand who have been pretty quiet lately!

ipv a1 banner

Pioneer 4 You have created some excellent vape gear in the past – I personally loved the IPV8 plus there are the IPV V3-Mini Auto squonk kit and the IPV V-IT kit in the back catalogue.

More Details On The Pioneer 4 You / YIHI IPV A1 Kit…

So the A1 kit is a tube style pod mod setup.

ipv a1 components

As P4Y are closely associated with the popular chip manufacturer YIHI the A1 contains the YIHI SX380 waterproof chipset.ipv a1 blue

This will allow 5-50W output and has a Buck-Boost converter to allow for more constant power.

There appears to be a Variable Wattage user mode plus the choice of Normal, Soft and Strong power curves which change the way the power is supplied to the coil.ipv a1 curves

The Soft mode starts at around 50% of power after pressing the fire button then slowly increases to 100%. In the Normal mode the output is a constant 100% of the output selected by the user. In Strong mode the buck-boost increases the power initially to 150% of the selected output and then decreases to 100%.ipv a1 bronze

Inside the mod is a 2000mAh battery which is charged via the USB Type C port – the charging rate and time are not specified.ipv a1 battery

A 0.69in OLED screen is provided to view your vaping data which is encased within the Aluminium and Stainless Steel mod body.

Sadly when it comes to the pod the details on the P4Y website are pretty vague.ipv a1 camera

A bottom fill port is provided and the pod will hold up to 4ml of your own e-liquid. This may have to be reduced to 2ml if P4Y want to market this in TPD regulated areas.ipv a1 filling

The airflow appears to be adjustable – from what I can see I think you rotate the pod to open or close the airflow inlet port.ipv a1 airflow

You can remove and replace the coil without discarding the pod but the type of coils available and included are not specified.

ipv a1 coil replacement

There are 5 colour options to choose from: Antique Bronze, Antique Copper, Gradient Blue, Gunmetal Tang and Elegant Black.

ESS stands for “Electronic Spray Squonk”. So now you know!

Basically this is a squonk mod – however it uses temperature control to sense when the coil is over heating through lack of e-liquid in the atomiser. The chip then tells the bottom feeding system to spray e-liquid into the atty.ipv v3-mini promo shots

According to P4Y this kit is anti burning, no leaking and no spilling.

The e-liquid lives in a little chamber in the side of the mod and is connected via tubes to the 510 connection. You can buy replacement containers in packs of 3. Apparently the e-liquid being separate from the heating element keeps the flavour fresh and pure?ipv v3-mini diagram

The box also contains an internal 1400mAh battery and there is a screen on the side.ipv v3-mini views

Included in the full kit is the IPV Elf ADA. I have no clue as to what ADA stands for I am sorry. Plus there is very little info on the little Elf apart from the fact there are two resistance options. You can also buy this on its own in a pack of 2.elf ada package

According to which atomiser you are using the mod will select a power preset.

  • 0.3ohm (Ni-Mn Alloy) – choice of 12-15W (P1) or 22-25W (P2)
  • 1ohm (SS316) – choice of 6-8W (P1) or 10.5-12.5W (P2)

ipv v3-mini modesThe atomiser has an adjustable airflow too and is bottom feed from the squonk container.ipv v3-mini liquid container pack

There are different colour and panel combinations available. First choose the main body colour – Black, Gunmetal or Silver.ipv v3-mini body colours

Then choose the panel design from Carbon Fibre – C1 or C2, Magical M1, M2 or M3 or Texture T1 or T2.

Kit Includes

  • IPV V3-Mini Mod
  • Elf ADA atomiser
  • E-liquid container
  • USB Cable
  • User manual

The E-liquid containers and Elf ADA are also available to buy separately.

Pioneer 4 You have released some excellent bits of kit but also had a few which didn’t quite meet the grade. I loved the iPV 8 mod but the iPV 400 wasn’t one of their best creations!

So could the iPV V-IT be a glorious return to form?ipv v-it kit components

For a start on paper things look good the V-IT mod uses a YiHi SX540 chipset and YiHi chips have a lot of fans – often included in more pricey devices such as the SX Mini Class devices.

The mod uses 2×18650 batteries (which are not included) and can output up to 200W.ipv v-it batteries

There is a 1.3in colour TFT IPS HD screen and you can add wallpapers to this of your choice.

This is a hefty sized mod with a central 510 connector – in theory looking at the specs tanks of 30mm should fit on here without overhang.v-it 510

Many user modes are available including Variable Wattage, Temperature control, Bypass, Taste modes and Novice modes. Also included is the SXI-Q settings – I will admit my ignorance as to what this is though!

If you buy the full kit the iPV V-IT sub ohm tank is included which has 2 different mesh coil heads of 0.2ohm and 0.1ohm.v-it full view

There are 2 capacity options 4ml standard and a 6ml bubble glass.

The tank is top fill and there is adjustable airflow via the ring on the tank base.ipv v-it tank refill

There are 5 colour options – Rhapsody, Fantasy, Odyssey, Galaxy and Bluesy.v-it colours

  • Pioneer 4 You iPV V-IT mod
  • Pioneer 4 You iPV V-IT tank
  • Bubble glass 6ml
  • 2x-Mesh coil heads
  • USB Cable
  • User manual

The Pioneer 4 You IPV Cyanide mod has just been released.

Ok there is an elephant in the room and I will poke it now – it’s not a looker is it?

However neither am I and I still have lots to offer – so let’s hold our noses and look closer.

Xyanide marketing picsThe marketing strategy of this is very confused. There is very little information on the IPV website.

However there are marketing images showing the Xyanide in the middle of some sort of war inspired air battles and then it is shown as being a luxury item next to some lovely crystal glasses!
IPV xyanide marketing imageThe mod can be bought on it’s own but there is also a kit available which includes the LXV4 tank.

IPV Xyanide coloursThis vape mod takes 2x18650 batteries which are not included and they appear to be inserted into the “tail pipes” of the space rocket shaped mod.

There is a maximum power output of 200W which is pretty good. You get a 0.96 inch TFT HD screen and funny shaped operation buttons!

Depending where you look – there are different colours available but not all retailers sell the full range. So far I have seen the Pioneer 4 You IPV Xyanide in Green, Blue, Black, Silver, Purple and Red.

Xyanide colours

I would like to say what size tanks you could use on this, the specs do give the measurements but as it is such a weird shape I have no idea! The LXV4 tank is 26mm diameter.

Kit Includes

  • IPV Xyanide Mod
  • LXV4 Tank (in kit version)
  • English User Manual
  • Micro USB Cable

Pioneer 4 You IPV Xyanide Specs

  • Material: Plastic, Zinc Alloy
  • Mod Type: Temperature Control Mod
  • Size: 102.5×46.9×35.8
  • Weight: 187g
  • Battery Form Factor: 18650
  • Battery Quantity: 2pcs ( not included )
  • Wattage range: 5 – 200W
  • Resistance range: 0.15 – 3 ohm ( standard ), 0.05 – 1.5 ohm ( joules mode )
  • Supports 2pcs 18650 batteries ( not included )
  • 0.96 inch TFT HD screen
  • 510 atomizer connector
  • Powered by YIHI SX460 chip
  • Colours available: Green, Blue, Black, Silver, Purple and Red

Xyanide specs

Pioneer 4 You LXV4 Tank Specs

  • Capacity: 2.2ml
  • Size: 47x26mm
  • Removable wide bore drip tip
  • Glass tank
  • Stainless steel body
  • Bottom airflow control
  • 510 threading connection

Pioneer 4 you LXV4 tankWell if you can hold back the vomit long enough this is a mod that is full of function – not just a novelty.

Sadly the weird looks do not appeal to me – but that is personal taste. Online the design of this has sparked a few debates!

This is also not cheap either – so maybe this is for a “niche” market?

Would you like to own this – let me know in the comments below!

The Pioneer 4 You IPV8 is a 230W mod with beautiful styling.

We have reviewed previous devices from Pioneer 4 You including the IPV400.

Having read many reviews online their last device the IPV6 seemed to be well-regarded but came with a temperamental battery door fault and it didn’t seem to protect against battery polarity errors thus requiring a recall.

IPV8 ColoursThe IPV400 suffered from problems with its external finish. So does the Pioneer4You IPV8 address these issues and improve on them?

The iPV Vaping Technology Co. is behind the Pioneer 4 You brand. Based in Shenzhen like most of the vaping heavy weights it supplies devices worldwide.

Promising a maximum output of 230W with dual 18650 batteries this is sounding like a bit of a beast and perfectly capable of supplying the power most vapers will ever need and some!

Powered by a YiHi SX330-F8 chip – yes I know – sounds erm – well – mega (I think??). Well this chipset is the same as used in previous IPV models with some apparent upgrades including a feature to lock the buttons.

The IPV8 comes in 4 colours with a leather grip.

IPV8 Marketing

Build Quality & Design

I received the Silver version to review. Very pleased as it was my favourite colour on the marketing images.

IPV8 Side view

This is so little – it’s extremely cute!

IPV8 Size with ball penThe 510 connection is pretty much central so that helps it to accommodate the bigger tanks. This sadly is flush with the mod body – some mods have a 510 platform so you can make tank adjustments. The flush 510 eliminates gaps between the tanks and body which look better but for day to day use a slight gap is preferable for me.

Therefore tanks seem to be really hard to undo as they seem to snag on the top of the mod making them tight to remove. Also I found it made the airflow adjustment ring on my tanks hard to turn.

IPV8 510 connectorI have tried a few different tanks on this to show you how they fit….

OBS Crius 2 RTA (25mm)Crius 2 on IPV8Carrys Green Tank (24.5mm)

Carrys Green tank on IPV8Vaptio Frogman XL tank (26.5mm)

Frogman XL on IPV8

As you can see this little mod handles all the bigger tanks well – the biggest of the bunch at 26.5mm diameter still doesn’t look silly.

The coil in the tank will need to be between 0.15 ohms and 1.5 ohms or else the resistance safeguard will stop the mod firing.

IPV8 Features

I have had no battery compartment issues, it only opens when you want it to and locks up nicely. There is also a long slot for battery venting.

I encountered a problem when trying to use the Carrys Green Tank on here. The 510 connection on the bottom of the tank is flush – the internal pin is the same height as the outer part of the connector.

I just kept getting “Check Atomiser” error message. I took the tank on and off and cleaned and eventually pushed the little 510 pin out of the bottom of the tank slightly. Hallelujah eventually got it to work.

When you give it the “shake test” there is a slight rattle which I think is the fire button. The + and – buttons feel pretty secure.

My only moan about it appearance wise is the screen looks very tiny. I have reviewed similar devices which have had a much bigger screen. This is perfectly functional though and clear and bright.

IPV8 with Crius 2 and Display

In The Hand

IPV8 in hand

I won’t lie this is heavier than you think it will be but it is small and feels like it with withstand anything!

The fire button is pretty small and when I wasn’t concentrating I kept pressing the body instead.

How Does the IPV8 Perform?

I used the OBS Crius 2, Vaptio C-2 and Carrys Green tanks on this to test performance. These tanks can be fired between 50-100W.

Basic operation

  • To turn on the device press the power button 5 times.
  • The screen should show the IPV8 display.
  • The device will then enter “stand by” mode. Just a warning this takes ages to start up, you have to wait for the IPV8 logo to go. I know because so many times I have sat there pressing the fire button after turning it on and nothing happened!
  • To turn off the device press the power button 5 times to access the menu and when it displays “System off” press the + or – button to turn off.
  • I think this is a bit annoying as I am used to just pressing the fire button 5 times and that is it. Also if you enter the menu it takes you to the “system on/off” setting and if you accidentally press the up or down button it switches the mod off!
  • To enter the menu press the fire button 5 times quickly, DON’T press up or down to scroll through the menu as you would usually do – instead press the fire button to see all the menus.

The menu controls are a little bit counter-intuitive sadly. But you do get used to it.

To lock and unlock press the power button 3 times.

Adjust Wattage/Joules

Depending which power mode the device is in you can adjust these settings using the + or – buttons.

To select the various operating modes – press the power button 5 times to access the main menu.

Then select the applicable mode.

How Install the Batteries

IPV8 battery door open

  • Push the battery door forward whilst pressing down slightly and the door will pop open.
  • Following the polarity markings install good quality 18650 batteries.
  • The door will push and slide in the opposite way to opening.

IPV8 Batteries installedWattage Mode

When set to wattage mode you can adjust the wattage output from the mod to the coil to tailor the vapour and adjust to suit the coil you are using.

Using the + and – buttons set the wattage required. If using a tank with prebuilt coils the coil literature or coil itself should specify the optimum wattage to get the best performance.

The wattage can be set to between 10W to 230W in 0.1W increments.

I ran this mainly at 50-60W and encountered no problems at all.

Temperature Control Mode

Temperature control means there will hopefully be a set temperature applied to the coil and you can avoid burning wicking material. Also by adjusting the temperature you can tailor the vapour you produce.

Temperature control mode works on coils made from titanium, nickel or stainless steel.

When you select temperature control mode the mod will sense the resistance of the coil. You set the resistance when the coil is cold and lock it. When fired the mod will calculate the temperature according to the resistance reading and adjust the output to correct this.

I am using the Crius 2 tank with SS316L coil reading 0.54 ohms.

I have selected Joule mode, read the resistance (when coil is cold!!) using the + and – held down and set it to SS316L. So let’s see if it cuts out before my cotton burns….

Well… erm… no.

The instructions were not as helpful as I would like. I followed everything it suggested. It doesn’t say what temperatures you should select for each coil material.

I just kept getting this error message. I had put the rest of the tank on and filled with liquid – so really not sure where to go from here. Sorry that’s about as far as I got with Temperature Control so put it back in wattage mode and I was happily vaping again!
IPV8 Dry Coil

Battery Life

I am using 2 18650 Samsung 25R batteries which were an absolute bargain from JAC Vapour. You can even get a discount using our code!

These are well rated batteries ideal for this type of device.

Please make sure you buy good quality batteries and a dual external charger from a reputable company. You will need to keep the batteries in pairs for dual battery mods. I simply write A, B etc. on the pairs with marker pen to keep them together.

Please make sure you are aware of battery safety – we have written a beginners guide to help you.

It is not recommended to charge the batteries whilst they are installed in the device. It can be done and obviously in an emergency this happens – but make sure not to leave the device unattended.

When charging batteries in the mod the display shows the charging level for each battery when you press the fire button. But from what I have seen online it doesn’t balance charge – i.e. equalise the charge of both batteries.
IPV8 Charging display

I have been vaping at between 50-60W for in total (on and off) for 15 hours before the batteries died. So this is pretty economical with the battery power.

What I Like

This is tiny and beautiful like a little baby dormouse… aww cuddles..
IPV8 with tank

The IPV6 issues are now ironed out – circuit protections and a sturdy battery door which stays shut!

What I Dislike

Having to keep unscrewing my tank when I want to adjust the airflow. Also some tanks seem to get “stuck” on the top of the mod.

I would like to select what values you see on the display – for instance “vaping time” isn’t as useful as “Puff count”, “Battery Charge %” etc.

Menu controls take a bit of getting used to, I would enter menu and use + or – to scroll and kept turning it off instead!

It’s very heavy!

Final Review Verdict

Ok the Pioneer 4 You IPV8 isn’t perfect. A few niggles. But still looks to be a huge improvement on previous models.

So once you get to terms with its oddities – you can’t help but love this little chap. It does really win you over – so please don’t write it off initially!

This isn’t the cheapest mod out there, but the quality and finish is gorgeous and I think you will get a lot of happy usage out of this.

Pros

  • Stunning looking mod.
  • Tiny and very cute.
  • Feels lovely in the hand and the leather panel helps grip.
  • Battery door is robust and secure.
  • Battery life is excellent.

Cons

  • Sadly there is no ability to update the firmware on this – which is a shame as manufacturers can sometimes do updates to help cure flaws.
  • Cannot customise the display or menus.
  • Very heavy (may be a pro for some).
  • Takes a while to power up when you switch it on.
  • Flush 510 connector can obstruct tank adjustments.
  • Small screen.
  • Small fire button.
  • To turn off you have to enter the menu and select “system off” which is slightly long winded.
  • Didn’t recognise the Carrys Green Tank which had a flush 510 connector.

My first “proper” 18650 vape mod was an iPV2 which I still have in my collection. Apart from a very tight lower resistance limit it was (and still is) a good, usable device.
pioneer4you ip400 in handBut “tempus fugit” and we now see the iPV400, a dual 18650 device from Pioneer4You.

iPV400 by Pioneer4You

The packaging is a fetching graduated grey with the device name and image on top, the logos and a colour checkbox on the sides.

On the reverse we find contact details for Pioneer4You, a product image and a very large “This is not a Toy” warning. The iPV400 is available in silver/blue, silver/black and silver/purple finishes.

Inside the Box

Removing the lid, we find the mod, wrapped in a translucent plastic bag and held in a foam insert. Underneath the mod is a QA certificate.

Lifting out the foam tray we find the user manual, warranty card and a micro USB cable.

Design and Build Quality

The iPV400 is, for a dual 18650 mod, fairly petite. As you’ll see from the photo, its 88 x 42 x 28mm size means it barely crosses my palm and it only weighs 124g (without cells).pioneer4you ipv400 size

On top we have a recessed 510 connector with no bottom feed air-slots. The centre pin is, despite appearances, sprung and not screw adjustable.pioneer4you ipv400 510 thread

On one edge we have an ovoid firing button.pioneer4you ipv400 power buttonAnd the other a USB port for charging/firmware updates above the Pioneer4You logo. ipv400 mod grip

On the front side we have two up/down adjustment buttons and a fairly small 20mm x 5mm OLED display.p4y ipv400 reviewed

Underneath we have a press & slide battery door concealing clearly labelled base contacts and if you look carefully you’ll see the all-important balance charging pin.p4y ipv400 18650 battery

Looks wise. It’s ok, but maybe not as polished or slick as others.

What’s definitely not slick is the paint over the silver casting. On mine it has bubbled and lifted away with just normal, fairly light use leaving the box mod looking pretty poor.

The metal finish to the body and buttons also appears to be soft, they’ve started to look worn already.pionee4you ipv400 poor finish

Also not good are the two cross head screws adjacent to the 510 connector which have already started to corrode, looking rusty.ipv400 rusted screws

Not the best place to put screws to start with and certainly if you did you’d want to make sure it’s a corrosion resistant piece.

How Does The iPV400 Perform?

5 Clicks wake the device into its default power mode, the up/down buttons smoothly scrolling all the way from 10W to 200W, with a good level of acceleration kicking in if the button is held down.

Pressing another 5 clicks turns…. Ah, wait no, it doesn’t turn it off, this takes you into the options menu.

This sees P4Y take a turn I just don’t get and for me makes the mod counter-intuitive.

To move between the menu options, you press the fire button and choose an option by pressing either the up or down button… AAgghh!

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve pressed the up/down buttons in error only for the mod to shut down….

If you switch from power to Joule mode (as P4Y call temperature control) you gain further options such as coil type, coil temperature, TCR etc.p4y ipv400 juoles tc mode

Temperature control include support for Ni200, Ti, P4Y’s own SX Pure coils, TCR and unusually SS304.

It’s not a biggy, I have some SS304 (which incidentally works quite well in TC mode as the TCR of SS304 is bigger than SS316) and it performed well.

I guess when the Ipv400 was being dreamt up perhaps SS304 seemed likely to be the big kahuna…

But setting the TCR for 316L wasn’t hard and with all the metals I tried the TC performed well, although I prefer TC modes where the temperature and not the Joule level is controlled.p4y tcr mode

The device doesn’t get particularly warm when charging and the display shows the target and actual voltage while it charges.

It doesn’t show the cells separately so you’ll need to use an external charger to ensure the batteries are ageing the same.

The charging also doesn’t support pass through use.

The other use for that USB port is, of course, firmware updates.

However, despite the iPV400 having been released in June 2016, there don’t appear to have been any updates released.

Which is a shame as they could have made the control method a bit more usable and switched SS304 for SS316.

Battery life seems on par with other good mods and doesn’t appear wasteful.

The box mod feels good in the hand, the light weight and small dimensions meaning it doesn’t dominate your grip. The firing button fits nicely under thumb or forefinger.

Final Review Verdict

If you forgive the odd control method and the finish issues the iPV400 is a good, capable, low cost and very dinky dual battery mod.

That said, the paint finish is quite poor, even at the low price point.

Temperature control is good, although I’d prefer temperature rather than Joule control. In terms of electronics the iPV400 is a very good reliable piece.

Design wise however it’s seriously lacking. For me it looks dated and the attention to detail with the rusting screws and peeling paint are very disappointing, as is the very small if bright OLED display.

It’s a good mod but Pioneer 4 You need to buck their ideas up when it comes to finish.

I might replace it if I lost it, but not ahead of my other usual devices.

Pros:

  • Light and petite
  • Good temperature control
  • Good 510 connector
  • Good battery cover

Cons:

  • Odd control method
  • No USB passthrough
  • Poor paint finish
  • Corroding screws

Can The IPV D3 Vape Mod Improve On The The Popular IPVD2

Pioneer4You scored a huge hit with the IPV D2, a small form factor 18650 unit that packed a lot of power inside! Hot on the heels of this release follows the IPV D3, which sports a chip looking to extract every last drop of power from your 18650 battery, and it also features an upgraded scratch resistant finish and brand new magnetic door cover.IPV D3 Mod Review

It also still has the same small form factor that made the IPV D2 a beloved device of many.

The IPV D2 was a roaring success, but will the IPV D3 enjoy the same level of success?

In The Box

Inside the IPV D3 packaging is-

  • One IPV D3 Device
  • One Micro USB Cable
  • User Manual
  • You’ll notice no silicone sleeve is included this time, with the new scratch resistant paint coating coupled with the new magnetic battery door cover you don’t actually need it! Of course, there will be third party wraps and mod sleeves available should you still want that extra protection.

Build Quality

It’s ever so slightly larger than the IPV D2, a few mm wider and taller, but you would barely notice the difference unless examining it very closely. Looks wise, it’s nigh on the same, however there’s now a thicker paint coating on the IPV D3 that is designed to be scratch resistant.Pioneer 4 You IPV D3 Temp Control

Paint scratching off easily was a big issue with the IPV D2 so it’s good to see Pioneer4You have taken steps to rectify this problem.

The buttons and OLED screen are all in the same place as they were with the IPV D2, the DC5V charging port is still in the same place as it was and you still have an excellent spring loaded 510 connector in place for a flush fit with your atomisers.

The IPV D3 still takes a single 18650 battery however the battery door cover is a world apart from the one featured with the IPV D2, which had a tendency to slide off if you didn’t use the supplied silicone sleeve.pioneer4you ipvd3 battery cover

Now you have dual magnets present that hold the battery door in place allowing you quick access to the battery, and these hold firm so you don’t need a silicone sleeve to ensure the battery door cover stays where it should be.

All in all this is a real solidly constructed little unit, with excellent build quality and outstanding form factor. It’s incredibly comfortable in the hand and light too, and with its small size it’s a very pocket friendly little vape mod as well!

Check out this video overview if the IPVD3 from the chaps at Pioneer4you.

Key Features

  • YiHi SX130H-V2 Chip
  • 80W output power in wattage mode
  • Voltage step down integration
  • 1.0 to 7.0V Output voltage range
  • 10 to 75J output power in temperature control
  • 0.15 to 3.0 ohms atomizer resistance range in wattage mode
  • Temperature Control with support for Ni200 and Titanium
  • 0.05 to 0.5 ohm atomizer resistance range in temperature control mode
  • 212 to 572 degrees fahrenheit (100-300C) temperature limit range
  • Improved build quality
  • OLED Display showing output wattage, output voltage, atomizer resistance and battery level
  • Revamped battery door, now using dual magnets
  • Low voltage/resistance protection
  • High Input Voltage Protection
  • Output Short Circuit Protection
  • Reverse battery polarity protection
  • Temperature Overheat protection

How Does The Pioneer4you IPV D3 Perform?

Housed inside the IPV D3 is the new Yihi SX130H-V2 chipset, which builds on the original SX130H chipset found in the D2 but adds a few performance tweaks.

The most obvious being that you now have 80w of output power in wattage mode, and 75J in temperature control mode, but possibly the biggest improvement to this chipset is the inclusion of voltage step down which many users of the IPV D2 bemoaned the absence of.

This means that battery life is even more efficient, and the chip can fire at voltages below the current battery voltage level. Essentially the voltage shown on screen is the true voltage being delivered, which makes for much more stable and accurate power output.Side branding on the IPVD3 mod

The menu system works in the exact same way as it did with the IPV D2, and pretty much all recent Pioneer4You releases.

It’s easy to navigate, and Power is adjusted and resistance locked (in Temperature Control) from the home screen without needing the menu. 5 clicks of the power button will take you into the menu system, a press of the power button will cycle through the menu options, a press of + or – will allow you to adjust the selected setting.

From the menu you can switch the IPV D3 on or off, switch between Power (wattage) and Joule (temperature control) modes, change the temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit, set the temperature limit and select whether you are using an Ni200 coil or Titanium coil in temperature control.

I would have liked to have seen support for Stainless Steel wire in temperature control mode, as this is fast becoming the wire of choice for temperature control users, however this is an emerging part of the market so perhaps we may see this included with the IPV D4!

Check out The IPV D3 In Action courtesy of Mike Vapes

As with all mods sporting a YiHi chip, when using temperature control resistance needs to be locked first, by ensuring you are using a compatible atomizer with an Ni200 or Titanium coil and having the correct mode selected. You need to ensure both the IPV D3 and the atomizer are at room temperature, then hold the + and – buttons down until resistance is displayed on screen.

You will notice that the resistance changes during use- this is because the IPV D3 reads the real time resistance whilst in temperature control mode. Your temperature limit is set through the menu system.

You have even more power this time around with a power output of 75J, this makes a huge difference when using Titanium wire as this requires more power and a higher temperature limit to get the most from it. Temperature control mode is just as accurate as it was with the IPV D2 and you get an excellent vape from it.

Power in wattage mode is now a maximum of 80w, which is about the absolute maximum you would want to get out of a single 18650 battery. Resistance is now supported down to 0.15ohm as well so you can get some serious cloud chasing done with this device.

Just bear in mind that at high power you aren’t going to get much battery life from the IPV D3! Battery life is even better than the outstanding IPV D2, with an extra hour or two’s battery life than on the IPV D2.

Final IPV D3 Review Verdict

The best single battery 18650 device just got even better! The IPV D2 was already a brilliant little device, and is still incredibly popular, however the IPV D3 just takes it to the next level.

You have a huge amount of power in such a small device, with 80w of power in wattage mode and 75J in temperature control, and an incredibly accurate chip regulating it. The build quality is better than on the IPV D2, the magnetic battery cover being a particular highlight, and despite it being a few mm taller and wider, the form factor is just as great as it was on the IPV D2.

Price point on this device is excellent, looking around at different retailers the IPV D3 is available around the same price point as it’s predecessor was, which makes this vape mod a complete steal for such a good looking and great performing device. The IPV D3 is a unit I can’t recommend highly enough!

The Good

  • 80w of output power in wattage mode
  • 75J of output power in temperature control mode
  • Voltage step down now included
  • Battery door now magnetic and far more stable than the IPV D2 version
  • Battery life even better with step down included
  • Fantastic price point
  • Superb form factor
  • Easy to use menu system
  • Very pocket friendly
  • Accurate, genuine Yihi chip

The Not So Good

  • Single 18650 battery means that high power usage drains battery life very quickly
  • No stainless steel wire support in temperature control
  • Firmware non upgrade-able
  • Still cannot charge via micro-USB

I was looking forward to carrying out the Pioneer4you IPVD2 review due to to the surging popularity of ‘Mini’ vape mods at the moment.

The small form factor provided by a single 18650 mod seemingly being favoured by many at present over the bulkier dual 18650 battery mods, however battery life from a single 18650 battery can be somewhat of a drawback with the power needs of the latest sub ohm tanks.pioneer4you ipvd2 review

Vaping powerhouses Pioneer4You have previously released the IPV Mini and the IPV Mini 2, their latest single battery 18650 mod with (very) small form factor is the IPV D2, one of the smallest 18650 units ever released, sporting a magnetic battery door, a Yihi chip, 75w of power and temperature control functionality is included.

It’s priced well with most vendors, and feature rich, is the IPV D2 the ‘killer’ mini mod?

9 Best Vape Mod & Box Mods of 2023 – From Over 470 Mods Tested

Kit Contents

Inside the cardboard presentation packaging you’ll find-

  • 1x IPV D2 unit
  • 1x Silicone Sleeve
  • 1x instruction manual
  • 1x charging cable

Please note that the supplied charging cable is NOT a micro USB charger, the IPV D2 charging cable requires a DC4.5V/DC5.5V 1A wall charger to take advantage of this feature.

You can easily charge your battery externally however due to the magnetic battery door giving you quick access to the battery, if you are unsure about using the charging cable I would highly recommend you remove your battery and charge it in a dedicated charger.

IPV D2 Battery / Body / Build

Now to cut to the chase the form factor of the IPV D2 is absolutely outstanding. It’s barely the height of an 18650 battery itself and 23mm wide, so this little beauty slots squarely into the palm of your hand.

In fact, most people’s hands will completely envelop the IPV D2! It’s lightweight too, deceptively light, and it’s form factor alone makes it an ideal mod to carry around out and about with you. A spring loaded 510 connector is present to ensure no gap between your IPV D2 and your atomizer, and the threading on the 510 connector is buttery smooth.Pioneer4you ipv d2 battery sleeve

The IPV D2 takes a single 18650 battery and this is inserted via removing the magnetic ball bearing battery door cover, battery swaps take a matter of seconds due to this outstanding feature. Top marks to Pioneer4You for this, the battery door cover is excellent and it holds firm once you have reattached it to the mod.

You can of course charge the IPV D2 with the battery in the unit using the supplied battery charging cable, however you do need a DC4.5V/DC5.5V 1A wall charger in order to do so.

The finish of the IPV D2 is excellent, constructed of billet aluminium and available in black or silver, it looks top class. I’ve not experienced any of the paint scratching off however there is a silicone sleeve included within the package to help protect the finish of your IPV D2 against any accidental scratches.

Buttons are a little on the small side but I don’t think anyone is going to find the size detrimental. They are very responsive and there’s no clickiness from them either. Both the power and + and – buttons are positioned above the screen, which is found at the bottom of the IPV D2, as with all Pioneer4You releases the screen is excellent, easily readable and offering information on the power, battery life, resistance and voltage.

Key Features

How Does The IPV D2 Perform?

The IPV D2 sports its own custom YiHi chip, in the form of the SX130H. YiHi chips are renowned for their top quality, the the SX130H present in the IPV D2 is no different. It’s very reliable and consistent, offering you maximum performance!

Starting off with the Menu system, it’s easy enough for anyone to pick up and get to grips with quickly, and anyone who has previously owned an IPV or YiHi release will be right at home. Power is adjusted and resistance locked (in Temperature Control) from the home screen without needing the menu.IPVD2 Mod By Pioneer4you

5 clicks of the power button will take you into the menu system, a press of the power button will cycle through the menu options, a press of + or – will allow you to adjust the selected setting.

From the menu you can switch the IPV D2 on or off, switch between Power (wattage) and Joule (temperature control) modes, change the temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit, set the temperature limit and select whether you are using an Ni200 coil or Titanium coil in temperature control. Yes, the IPV D2 supports Titanium as well as Nickel coils out of the box in temperature control.

As with all mods sporting a YiHi chip, when using temperature control resistance needs to be locked first, by ensuring you are using a compatible atomizer with an Ni200 or Titanium coil and having the correct mode selected. You need to ensure both the IPV D2 and the atomizer are at room temperature, then hold the + and – buttons down until resistance is displayed on screen.

Further Reading: Beginners Guide To Temperature Control Vaping

You will notice that the resistance changes during use- this is because the IPV D2 reads the real time resistance whilst in temperature control mode. Your temperature limit is set through the menu system. I’ve found temperature control to be very accurate on the IPV D2 and a real outstanding vape.

In power mode you have 75w at your disposal, and resistance is supported down to 0.2ohm, so the IPV D2 supports pretty much anything! 75w is about the maximum you would want out of a single 18650 battery! Battery lifespan is quite possibly the best I’ve experienced on a single 18650 unit, achieving well over a days use in most instances.

Final Pioneer4you IPV D2 Review Verdict

Its light, compact and powerful, feature rich and pocket friendly both in size and price, the IPV D2 really does have it all. It really does shine in all areas, and the fact that it is available at this price with most UK retailers is truly fantastic.

It’s been extremely hard to find any fault with the IPV D2, such is the all round quality of this unit, it’s something I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

The IPV D2 is one of my front runners for my mod of the year in 2015, if not my favourite unit of all time!

The Good

  • Comprehensive and accurate temperature control mode supporting Ni200 and Titanium out of the box!
  • Amazing small and light form factor
  • Very well priced
  • 75w of power in power mode
  • Very efficient chip means you get the most out of your 18650 battery
  • Magnetic battery door cover is excellent
  • Build quality is top class
  • Very user friendly, appeals to all sections of the market

The Not So Good

  • Not firmware upgrade-able
  • Cannot charge via micro USB
  • Single 18650 battery does have its limitations with battery life
