For this review we are going to be taking a look at a gorgeous modern little kit – the OBS Engine 100w.

This is a traditional sub ohm device, paired with the OBS S tank.

OBS as a company has been around since 2014, are based in China and have a well respected name within the vape industry!

The Engine RTA’s series certainly made its name, as well building the brand name for quality and functionality.

The company has bought us the Cube series of mods as well as some RDA’s like the Crius RDA; OBS have also released a few pod systems like the Skye kit and Cabo kit.

What Can We Expect From the OBS Engine 100w Kit?

The OBS Engine 100W Kit is a pocket friendly sub ohm kit, designed for Direct to Lung vaping, and includes the 2ml TPD compliant S tank.

obs engine 100w 2ml check hand

Powered by a choice of removable batteries to provide a maximum output of 100W, the device can be customized with replaceable battery sleeves.

The chassis for OBS Engine 100w Kit has been produced in two series – Stainless Steel and Gunmetal – each has 6 distinctive coloured resin battery sleeves to choose from.

Design and Build Quality

The OBS Engine 100w Kit comes in a cardboard box with a paper over sleeve.

obs engine 100w max wattage

The mod is well designed with a good quality of manufacture, the S tank is a very nicely built standard Sub Ohm tank which had good quality to it.

OBA Engine 100w mod

I obtained the gunmetal and ruby red version of the kit.

The mod stands at 90mm tall with the S tank it measures 137mm, the width of the mod is 37mm with a tank diameter of 27mm.

OBS Engine 100w Body

The body of the device is made from zinc alloy with a replaceable resin battery sleeve!

The body has a moulded feel with chamfered edging, the device is very comfortable to hold, and the resin sleeve gives the device a modern hip look.

There is an embedded O ring in the cap for firm seating of the mouth piece; the top cap is a ¼ turn and lifts off the tank for easy filling.

Fill Port / Chimney Assembly

It’s one piece with O rings at either end to hold the glass in position and the fill port is wide.

Base and Airflow

On the base you will see that OBS has lightly engraved the required information, and the connection point is a gold plated pin.

Inside of the base are 2 small gold plated protections that make contact with the coil.

obs engine 100w airflow base tank

The airflow for this tank has a bottom triple airflow, what you put one on it is mirrored by the other two.

The tank comes with a spare 2ml glass – a 6ml glass is available for purchase separately.

The 2 coils that OBS have included with the kit are:

  • E1 0.4Ω mesh coil, 45 to 55w best at 50w
  • E2 0.2Ω mesh coil, 50 to 70w best at 60wincluded coils

I couldn’t find other replacement coils for the S tank online at this time!

How Does the OBS Engine 100w Perform?

For this review I will be using the pre installed 0.2Ω coil in the S tank

The liquid I will be using today is Summer Vibes “Blood Orange & Grapefruit”.

OBS Engine 100w Quick Start Guide

OBS 2ml S Tank

  • Always Prep your coil before first firing your device – drip a few drops of liquid onto the cotton.
  • Re assemble the tank and remove the top cap fill with liquid, replace the top cap and screw the S tank on to the OBS Engine 100w mod.fill tank s 2ml

Wait a 2 minutes before firing so the cotton can soak up more liquid.

OBS 100w Mod

Install a battery – you can charge a battery while it is installed in the mod safely, however I tend charge all batteries via my external charger.

  • X5 presses of the fire button to turn the device on and off.
  • You will be asked which battery you have installed. type battery menu
  • To change the theme colour press the fire button X3 times for each colour.
  • The device has an auto lock to change the wattage press either adjustment buttons X3 then scroll to your preferred wattage!
  • To clear the puff count press the – and fire buttons together.

The device has several safety features built in – overheating, overcharging and reverse polarity!

OBS Engine 100w Kit In Use

Starting at 45w with the airflow on the S tank closed to the half point, I received a decent restricted DTL draw, the vapour was good and cloudy surprisingly the flavour wasn’t too bad either.

Upping the wattage in 5w increments until I reached 70w, I found the higher up I went the vapour became a lot warmer; I was surprised to find the flavour was still good, although I did get a little spit back at 70w!

obs engine 100w 45w 2ml puff

Switching over to my OBS Engine Nano RTA with the airflow almost closed so I could enjoy a loose MTL style vape at 15w, the Engine 100w mod functioned very well producing a standard amount of vapour and a better than average flavour from my RTA which was no surprise!

OBS Engine 100w Battery life

With an 18650 battery the maximum the wattage is 60w!

With 20700 and 21700 both reach the full 100w.

I have tested all 3 types of battery in the mod and with the S tank.

Below are the rough times that battery lasted me at 60w!

  • 18650 – 2 ½ hours
  • 20700 – 3 ¾ hours
  • 21700 – 5 hoursobs engine 100w choices battery

Of course battery life depends on your usage, I am a heavy vaper so my times might not match yours.

OBS Engine 100w My Experiences

When I first started using the kit I couldn’t get used to the idea of the auto lock, pressing one of the adjustment buttons 3 times before I could adjust the device.

After a few days this was ingrained in my brain lol.

Another point I want to make is at higher wattage the 2ml tank drinks faster than a sailor on a weekend pass!

I have now purchased the 6ml bubble glass to solve this small problem – while still a thirsty little tank at least it’s now tolerable to me!

Pros

OBS Engine 100w Mod

  • Good quality
  • Well designed
  • Easy to use
  • Comfortable in the hand
  • Good battery life (21700)

OBS 2ml S Tank

  • Good flavour
  • Good vapour production

Cons

  • 2ml tank (need I say more)

Final Review Verdict

This really is a cute kick ass little vape kit!

The kit is well made with good quality, it’s small enough to keep in your pocket and comfortable enough to hold for an extended time, 5hrs with a 21700 is plenty of vape time for me as a travel mod!

My only real negative point after using the device for 1½ weeks is the fill capacity of the 2ml S tank and how it empties so fast – I now have the 6ml bubble glass to solve that.

I tend to be rather wary with stock coil tanks as they never seem to deliver for me, so I was rather surprised to find the tank produces good flavour and vapour quality!

Would I recommend the OBS Engine 100w Kit?

“Yes” ideal kit – for those who want to give DTL a go or for those with more experience that are looking for a small pocket friendly vape with a kick behind it!

Would I buy this kit again due loss or damage?

I will be buying another as Mrs J wants one lol, even so if it was lost or damaged! I would still replace it.

So…

Is this a vape kit you’re looking to buy?

The OBS Oner Kit is a pod kit with classic small box mod styling.

OBS Oner Kit

The mod reminds me of the Vaporesso Swag, Smok Alien and Eleaf Pico styling with the small body and screw top battery compartment.

What To Expect From The OBS Oner Kit…

Looking at the mod itself first – you will need a single 18650 battery (not included) and this fits inside the mod with a screw off cap securing it in place.

OBS Oner Kit components

A Type C USB port is provided for emergency charging at a 1.4A charge rate.OBS Oner Kit battery

The output is stated as 5-80W (variable wattage) and on the side of the mod is a colour screen but the type and size of screen are not specified.

The fire and adjustment buttons look pretty big so shouldn’t be fiddly to find when vaping!

Above the buttons is the airflow control slide lever – which allows you to tailor the airflow to your preference.OBS Oner Kit airflow

In standard form this does not have a 510 connector – so the pod fits inside the mod body. However you can purchase a 510 adaptor which closes off the airflow adjustment and gives you a 510 connector to use any tank on top of the mod. It is worth noting though that the battery cap might reduce the size of tank you can use.OBS Oner Kit 510

Thankfully the pod is completely clear and protrudes out of the mod sufficiently to be able to see your e-liquid level at all times – I wish more manufacturers would do this!

The top of the pod slides to give access to the fill ports – so again reduces the need to remove the pod!

You will have to remove the pod to change the coil but this is a simple push in / pull out fitting.

Talking of coils the pod is compatible with the OM range of coils which are also found in the Pluck Kit and Skye Kit.oner coils

There are 3 coils to choose from:

  • OM 0.2ohm Mesh – included in the kit
  • OM YE 0.4ohm Mesh – included in the kit

The OBS Skye kit has landed and I think this pod mod system looks pretty awesome.

Founded in 2014, OBS is certainly not new to the industry.

OBS SKye Pod Mod

I think the first time I really noticed the OBS name was with the OBS Cube kit. There is also the Cube Mini, Cube X Cube Pro and Cube FP.

Other popular OBS kits include the KFB / KFB2 tube kits, the Draco Kit, the OBS Cube FP [another fingerprint kit]

In total OBS’ catalogue consists of 8 tanks, 5 RTAs, 1 RDTA, 3 RDA and 16 kits including 6 pod/pod mods.

What We Can Expect From The OBS Skye Kit

The first thing you need to know about the OBS Skye, is there are 2 different versions, the standard version and the FP.

If you haven’t already guessed the FP stands for Finger Print, which isn’t a fancy name, it actually means it has a finger print sensor.

It’s powered by a 1600mAh battery and charger at 1.6A or 2A or 1A – we’ll have to see because the OBS website and manual contradict each other a fair bit, in regards to this.

The OBS Skye has a 0.96″ Screen which looks amazingly well.

OBS SKye Pod Mod back

It fires up to 40W but also has a smart feature that prevents high ohm coils from firing higher than 20W.

Build & Design Quality

I’d like to point out, I received both the standard and the FP version but for the majority of this review I will be focusing on the FP version, if and when there is a difference I will state so.

Both the Standard and the FP Skye kits come in 6 different colours.

OBS SKye Pod Mod colours

I was lucky enough to receive mine in black and I have to say I am a fan of the sleek black and silver look.

The OBS Skye Mod

In true OBS style the Skye kit has a square base, with rounded corners.

Although, technically it’s more of a rectangular base, but that does make it fit quite nicely in hand.

OBS SKye Pod Mod mod

If there is anything that puts me off about how the kit feels in the hand, is the mod is a bit bottom heavy.

That slight imbalance makes it feel quite strange to hold (even with a pod full of liquid), however I should point out, I think ‘little details’ like that stand out a lot more when you’re reviewing a device.

It isn’t really that major, after all the mods total weight is only 105g.

The OBS Skye Screen

The OBS Skye Pod Mod has a 0.96″ LED screen, which is pretty much the “go to” screen size for a lot of devices these days, and it’s located on the front just below the fire button.

I have to say it looks pretty crisp and fresh, I like it. It’s nice a simple, easy to red and looks good.

OBS SKye Pod Mod standard vs FP

When you turn the device on or off, you are greeted with the OBS logo that has a dark blue to light blue gradient… It reminded me of Saga is I’m honest.

While the screen is on, the OBS logo is in the top left, which is a bit of a waste of screen space in my opinion, OBS’ logo is just above the fire button… do we really need one on the screen as well?

In the top right corner is the battery bar indicator, which doesn’t display a percentage.

Just below those is a blue circle, which spans the entire width of the screen and contains the current wattage setting, and the padlock icon to signify if the device is locked or not.

Pretty much center of the screen is the puff counter with the Ohms, Voltage and Timer information below that.

The Standard Version is the same with different colours on the screen.

OBS Skye Buttons

Let’s start with the simplest first; The ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons.

They are joint in the middle and bump up to form each button, the is no symbols to signify what the buttons do, they are just there. I like them, they don’t rattle, and press nicely.. what more do you want?

OBS-Skye-Kit-buttons

So, the Fire Button is where the finger print sensor is but I don’t really want to focus on that too much right now because we’ll look at that separately.

That does also mean the standard and the FP versions have different buttons.

The standard version is metal with that fine radial grip, it doesn’t rattle and all is well.

On the FP version the button is much prettier, in my opinion. It’s still round but now it is black in the center with a silver boarder, and further out is a LED which surrounds the button, which lights up while you are using the device and then the device turns on or off.

If there is a problem with the finger print recognition, (I.E it failed to save a new finger print or it didn’t recognise a finger print) the light will display red and the mod will vibrate.

OBS Skye Pod Connection

The Pod connection on the OBS Skye is pretty typical of what you would expect pod mods to look… pre 2020 that is, when Pod Mods, became more like tube mods.

There is 4 magnets, one in each corner of the device, with the connection pins just off center to allow the pod connect at any rotation.

OBS SKye Pod Mod pod port

The airflow comes in through the inlets on either side of the device and through to the base of the coil.

OBS Skye Pod

Again the pod is what you would expect from a pre-2020 pod.

It’s square with a built in mouth piece and clear on the sides to maximise E-liquid level visibility.

Pod Mod pod

The pod stands on 4 legs in the corners, so the magnets have direct contact.

The mouth is long and flat rather than circular, I like it.

You may have noticed, there are two pods, one has a reduced airflow intake for MTL coils as the other is more open (that is the only Adjustment available on the system), you can also the tell apart buy the colour of the pods, the MTL is red, the DTL is black.

Using The OBS Skye Pod Mod

Put a coil in, fill the pod, turn the mod on and you’re on your away, let’s look at how to do those things, so you can get up and running.

Changing The Coil

The Pods come with coils pre installed so you should be able to skip this step if you are setting it up for the first time.

  • Remove the pod from the mod
  • While holding the pod upside down, pull to remove the coil
  • Insert a new coil
  • Fill pod and leave for 4-5 minutes before using

To reduce liquid loss, change coil when pod is empty.

Filling the OBS Skye Pod

  • Remove the pod from the mod
  • Lift the black rubber seal
  • Insert liquid into fill hole
  • Re-seal

If using a new coil wait 4-5 minutes before using, to allow the e-liquid to saturate the coil – known as priming your coil.

Operating The OBS Skye

  • Turn On/Off = Press fire button 5 times Quickly
  • Power Adjustment Lock = Press ‘+’ OR ‘-‘ 3 times quickly
  • Change power = unlock then press ‘+’ or ‘-‘. when the resistance is below 0.8ohm the power available is 5-40W and 5-20W when the resistance is higher.

Adding Finger Prints

  • Press ‘+’ and fire button at the same time to enter FP interface
  • The device will now be ready to add a FP
  • To add first or additional FP simply keep touching the fire button with the finger/thumb that you are trying to register.
  • After registering a finger print the device returns to the home screen, however if you want to cancel and return, you can press and hold ‘-‘ and ‘+’ simultaneously

The first finger print you register will be the admin finger print.

Removing All & Disable Finger Prints

  • Unlock with the admin fingerprint (the first registered)
  • Press ‘-‘ and fire button at the same time

How Does The OBS Skye Perform?

OM YE 0.4ohm Mesh Coil

OBS Recommend 30-40W for this coil with a best at 35W.

I’m using it with Juicciers Strawberry Mango Crush at 3mg (70VG/30PG), but I’ve been using it with Got Salts Peachy Promise too (50vg/50pg, 10mg) and that worked just as good.

We’ll start way too low at 25W and you know what it’s pretty impressive! A slow Direct To Lung draw provides a nice small cloud, with a not massive but still prominent flavour. Mouth To Lung, also gives off a nice little flavour production.

30w is the minimum recommended and to be honest not much has changed.

35W is the ‘best’ wattage, and it’s nice. I’ve been using this coil for the majority of the time on 37W. At 35W we get a DTL flavour that is really impressive for the power, it’s nice and prominent and the vapour production is still a little cloud.

40W is as high as the mod will go and it’s also the top of the recommended range. It’s sublime!

For 40W the flavour is phenomenal, it doesn’t ‘flood the mouth’ but it’s close to it.

The cloud is now… medium, it’s a generous and pleasing cloud for 40W.

obs-skye-fingerprint

OM SK 1.0ohm Regular Coil

OBS Recommend 10-20W for this coil with a best at 15W.

Again, I’m using it with Juicciers Strawberry Mango Crush at 3mg (70VG/30PG), but I’ve been using it with Got Salts Peachy Promise too (50vg/50pg, 10mg) and that worked just as good.

This pod is super restrictive so you can’t really pull a DTL draw.

So down low at 5W you actually get a a fair MTL vapour production is you take a slow draw, but you can’t really feel it, it feels like you’re just sucking air.

10W is the minimum and those extra 5w made the world of difference. The vapour production feels light and smooth, while still producing a cigarette like amount of vapour, or more if you draw slowly. And the flavour is super prominent at the back of the throat.

OBS state it’s best at 15w, and I am not arguing! That is an amazing MTL flavour and the vapour production is what you would expect from a cigarette is not a little more.

To the moon! 20W is the max recommended for this coil, and because of it’s resistance, it’s the highest power the mod will let us do.

And to be honest, not much changes other than the flavour gets a little deeper in taste. I personally preferred it at 15w, 20w seems like there is took much flavour… if that makes sense.

OBS Skye Finger Print

For me this is an important factor, for many reasons but seen as there is a standard version without this feature, why would you buy this version is the FP doesn’t work well?

Well, luckily you don’t have to worry about that, because it does work pretty well.

OBS SKye Pod Mod please finger print

Setting it up was much easier than I had expected.

I haven’t decided if I like the remove process, although it is simple, the fact it removes every finger print is abit of a pain, if you’re sharing your device with 3 other people… wait why would you be frequently sharing it with 3 other people…

Okay, yeah, the removal system is good too. It’s a bit like disabling the FP system but… then having to set it up again if you want to enable it.

While the OBS Skype FP is finger print locked you can’t vape on it without an authorised finger print. It takes 1 minute and a half for it to lock after using it and you can’t do it manually.

I never realised before using this device, how much of an ambidextrous vaper I am. I had only set up my right thumb and it was pretty annoying whenever I tried to fire with my left, although that’s easily fixed by adding the left thumb to the system.

Although it did fail to recognise my prints sometimes, the majority of the time it worked OK. Although it does take some getting used to.

Pod Mod finger print fail

It would be nice if you could choose to set it to manual lock only though, maybe 3 clicks of the fire button?

However that would means it needs a menu to change that, and I quite like when simple systems omit the menu.

One main concern though, If you only register 1 finger/thumb print, and then you have a slight cut on that finger, or a bit of glue anything that means your print will be affected, you won’t be able to use your device for a while, and nowhere in the manual did I find instructions on how to reset it.

OBS Skye Does it Leak?

Well… no, not even to the usual level that all pod mods leak, the port is still bone dry.

OBS Skye USB-C Charging Port

So after reading the OBS website and manual it’s a little confusing, so all I’m going to say about the charge rating, is in my experience of charging the OBS Skye, it was always charged within 1hour and 30 minutes, which is decent.

As you can see below the charging port is on the bottom of the device which I’m no keen on, but it does have USB-C.

Pod Mod USBC C port bottom

In regards to usage I got pretty much full days out of it but it depends how you use it.

For example, if you use it at 15W (the best recommended for the 1ohm coil) you will get a 2 second puff every other minutes for about 23 hours.

On the other had is you use the 0.4ohm coil on full power (20w) you’re going to get about 8 hours, which I think is still OK.

Pros

  • Great Flavour
  • Great Vapour
  • Great airflow
  • FP works well
  • Feels good in hand
  • Good battery life
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to see Juice Level

Cons

  • No Adjustable airflow
  • Internal Battery Only

Final Review Verdict

Quite often manufacturers in all industries try to make advanced more sophisticated tech and all though they add bigger, better and fancier features, the final product ends up being confusing and a bit of a pain to use and navigate.

However, I don’t think that applies to OBS, they have done an absolutely excellent job at making this system have the newer technologies and capabilities without making it too complicated. Well done OBS, I tip my hat to you!

At this stage of the review I always think about who the device would be good for, although I don’t always mention it.

In this case the OBS Skye, would be great for almost any vaper.

The reality of it is, for just 40W it is capable of great flavour and vapour production for MTL and DTL.

So if you are a Sub-ohm vaper looking for a smaller device for when you go out (presuming its not 2020 or 2021 and you’re allow out) or you are wanting to get onto vaping this would be awesome for you.

A key thing I like about it is that the coils have nice sized wicking holes, so you can use high VG liquids for both the DTL and MTL coil. Although you should be aware that by nature, the coils may not last as long with high VG liquids, purely because VG is more ‘gunky’.

One of my goals was to find out if the Finger Print system was worth it or not… and you know what? It hasn’t annoyed me at all.

Okay when you forget that it’s a FP system that’s annoying but that was only because I intentionally never registered my left prints.

As far as the FP system is concerned, it works and the majority of the time it works first time.

The OBS Pluck kit is a new starter kit from a manufacturer that has been around since 2014.

OBS Pluck Kit Product Shot

I’ve previously reviewed the KFB2 and the Land Pod System from OBS, and I’ve always been impressed with the neat, flavourful devices they make.

What Can We Expect From The Pluck Kit by OBS?

The Pluck kit is a starter kit that shares more than a little of it’s DNA with Pod systems.

It comes with two coils for mouth to lung and direct lung vaping, you can read more about the different types of vaping here. A decent 3.5ml capacity on the non TPD version, and USB C charging.

With a one button device, hopefully there’s not much to go wrong!

This was sent over free of charge from OBS for the purpose of review (thank you)  – as always, this will not affect my thoughts, and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

Inside The Box

  • Pluck Mod
  • Pluck Tank
  • OM SK 1Ω coil
  • OM TE 0.4Ω Mesh coil
  • USB Type C Cable
  • Manual, Warranty Card and Warning Card

OBS Pluck Kit Box Contents

Specs and Features

  • Dimensions – 124×25.8mm
  • Weight – 92g
  • Power Output – Based on Coil Resistance: & 0.8ohm = 35W, >0.8ohm = 15W
  • Battery – Inbuilt 1500mAh
  • Charing – 1A USB C
  • Capacity – 3.5ml (2ml TPD)

Design and Build Quality

The mod section comes in a choice of 6 colours, Classic Black, Carbon Black, Galaxy Blue, Retro Brown, Tiffany Blue and Camo Green.

I received the Tiffany Blue for review.

OBS Pluck Kit the Body

The body of the mod is about as simple as you can get.

It’s tube shaped with the coloured section having a slightly grippy feel to it, despite looking like it might be a pod at the top it is actually a standard 510 connector.

OBS Pluck Kit Dissasembled

On one side you have a long black strip with the branding “Pluck” in white down the bottom, and your fire button with LED at the top.

OBS Pluck Kit Fire button Front View

The fire button does the job just fine, though it’s not as clicky as I would personally like. Also because it’s only slightly raised from the body, it can be hard to find it by feel.

On the opposite side to your fire button is the USB C charge port, this will charge at 1A.

I’m really glad it’s not on the base of the mod, as I don’t like to leave them lying on their sides, but because it’s so high it can be a little top heavy if you’ve plugged it in standing up.

OBS Pluck Kit USB C Port

Speaking of the base of the device, you have your regulatory marks. Oddly it says “OBS Designed by OBS“. It also lists the capacity of the battery (1500mAh) which is a nice touch that you don’t often see.

OBS Pluck Kit Base of Mod

Finally there’s a small hole for venting.

On the top of the mod you have a spring loaded 510 connector, and it will fit a 25mm tank without overhang.

The OBS Pluck Tank

The OBS Pluck tank itself is a bit of an oddity, as it feels more like a pod than a tank.

It’s a fixed drip tip that is built into the top section, it’s quite a wide bore, so we’ll see how that will affect mouth to lung vaping later.

OBS Pluck Kit Topcap

On one side you have a little arrow to show you what way to push to open the top for refilling. Be aware that the top section does come off totally.

OBS Pluck Kit Cyclops AFC

Your airflow control is built into the metal base hardware of the tank. You’ve got two mirrored cyclops airflow slots, and if you turn it further you have 5 pinhole airflow holes so you can really fine tune the vape.

OBS Pluck Kit 5 Pinhole AFC

This should be good for allowing both mouth to lung, and direct lung vaping.

OBS Pluck Kit Base of Tank

Despite it feeling like a pod, it does have a standard 510 connector at the base, and this whole base section unscrews to allow you to change your coil.

How To Fill The OBS Pluck Tank

  • Slide the top of the tank in the direction of the arrow to expose your fill port
  • Fill up with your favourite e-liquid
  • Slide the top back again to close it

OBS Pluck Kit How to fill

This is one of the few things I didn’t like about this kit, as if you push too hard, the top of the tank will just come straight off.

It does have a little catch, but it’s designed so you can totally remove it by pushing hard.

Keep this in mind if you’re out and about, because it’s not dignified having to hunt around on the ground in the dark because you’ve just sent the top of your tank bouncing away!

How To Change The OBS Pluck Coil

You can either leave the tank on the mod for this, or you can take it off. One is just as simple as the other.

  • Unscrew the bottom section of the tank, if you’re leaving it on the mod you can just hold this and unscrew the top section for the same effect
  • Flip it upside down so you can see your coil
  • Pull out the old coil and insert a new one
  • Screw the two pieces back together again

How to change coils

Remember to leave it to sit for a few minutes with e-liquid so that it fully saturates.

You can change the coil when there is a little e-liquid left in the tank, but not much. So try and vape it almost empty, or you’re going to have liquid running out the drip tip.

Controls

No screen on this and only one button, so as you can imagine it’s pretty simple!

5 Clicks will power On/Off the mod

The LED will show different colours depending on the battery remaining.

  • Green – 60-100%
  • Blue – 30-60%
  • Red – 0-30%

LED

I’m pretty pleased with where they have set the levels, as I often find that mods that rely on LED colours only show red seconds before they power off.

On this one, you have a reasonable safety margin to find somewhere to charge up.

Power output is handled by the chip, and only has 2 possibilities based on the resistance of the coil

  • 0.8Ω – 15W
  • 0.8Ω – 35W

Normally it’s not something you need to think about, but if you’re going to put your own tanks on here it’s worth remembering so that you can pick a coil resistance that is going to suit the wattage that gets supplied.

How Does the OBS Pluck Perform?

For testing these coils I decided to use both a 50/50 e-liquid, Berry Ice by Vape Simple, and also a 70/30 and a Pomegranate Lemonade by Fizzle. With no wicking issues on either of the coils.

OBS Pluck HandcheckYou can read about what VG/PG mean here.

OBS Pluck Kit 1.0Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

Quite a restricted vape from this one, as you would expect from a coil set up for Mouth to Lung vaping. On a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being fully open, this is around a 5.

It is possible to get a direct lung inhale on it, but for me it was just too restrictive for that style of vaping.

I much preferred vaping it with 2 of the small pinhole airflow holes showing, where it provided a really satisfying loose mouth to lung draw.

Cloud production is obviously relatively limited!

OBS Pluck Kit 1.0Ω Coil – Flavour

Very happy with the flavour on this coil. I tried it with some 70/30 e-liquid first and I’m happy to say that it wicks fine with this.

Mostly I tested it with favourite Berry Ice from Vape Simple, and it gave a very nice vape.

OBS Pluck Kit 0.4Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

As you would expect there’s a definite increase in airflow here, on the 1-10 scale it’s now a 7.5. Certainly this coil is built more for direct lung vaping.

Clouds are also noticeably fuller than you got on the 1.0Ω, but I would say that it’s closer to a pod system, than it is to something like a sub ohm tank.

This is easily my favourite of the two coils, as it’s more flexible. Although you can do a direct draw wide open, it also closes down to be a very nice mouth to lung.

Happily the wide bore of the drip tip doesn’t detract from this at all.

OBS Pluck Kit 0.4Ω Coil – Flavour

Flavour on the 0.4Ω is a little bit better than the 1.0Ω, regardless whether you’re comparing it as mouth to lung, which they can both do. Or as direct lung.

Easily as good as some of the better pod mods I’ve tried.

OBS Pluck Kit Battery

Battery life is obviously going to depend mostly on which coil you have in, and how frequently you vape.

1500mAh is a decent size for such a small device, and using the 1.0Ω coil I was easily able to get through a full day.

Switching over to the 0.4Ω, and it could still handle a day most of the time.

Having said that, there were more than a few times where I would need to top it up a bit by late afternoon/evening.

Pros

  • Super Simple
  • Good flavour
  • Nice build quality and finish

Cons

  • Top cap can fly off if you push too hard

Final Review Verdict

Although you can use the mod with another tank, I think it’s unfair to mark this as a mod/tank kit, it’s really designed to be a starter kit.

As such it does the job really well. The two coils both provide decent flavour, it’s incredibly simple to use, and it’s well put together.

There’s really not a huge amount to say about it, and that’s not a bad thing.

The only thing I can really pick it up on is the fact that if you’re heavy handed you might end up with the top cap flying off when you open it.

And trust me, once you’ve made that mistake once you won’t do it again!

This is definitely the sort of kit I would recommend to someone just starting out vaping.

Simple, straight forward, no nonsense!

There are a lot of Cube kits to choose from – including the Standard Cube, the Cube FP (with fingerprint recognition) and even a low power version for MTL vapers – the Cube MTL – strangely enough!

A Closer Look At The OBS Cube S Kit…

The main marketing feature of the Cube S Kit is the fact the body has a leather grip and a more curved appearance.cube s design

An upgraded chip has been included which apparently gives a faster fire speed of 0.001 seconds.

cube s chipYou can vary the output wattage from 5-80W and all of your vaping data is displayed on the 0.96in colour OLED screen.cube s power

To power the Cube S you will need a single 18650 battery which is not included. The USB Type C charging port is available for use in emergencies but the charge rate is not stated.cube s battery

Included in the kit is the popular Cube tank – which I loved on the Cube FP kit!cube s components

The tank uses the M range of coils and you get 2x M1 0.2ohm Mesh coils in the kit.

On the base of the tank is the airflow adjustment and the top cap unscrews for access to the generous filling ports.cube pro tank capacity

Capacity wise this will vary – in standard format this has a 4ml capacity – however in TPD regulated areas this is reduced to 2ml.

There are 6 colours to choose from: Black Blue, Classic Black, Black Red, Black Brown, Blue Red and Blue Camo.

The Cube range of kits seems huge now with the Cube FP, Cube Pod, Cube X, Cube Mini, Cube MTL and the original Cube kit to choose from!

A Closer Look At The OBS Cube Pro Kit…

I really enjoyed using the Cube FP kit and this has a very similar operation but with more of the styling of the original Cube kit.

The Fingerprint recognition system is back – this allows the device to be locked from use by others whose fingerprints have not already been stored in the device. Handy around kids or thieving gits!

As said above instead of using a removable 18650 battery as in the FP version – the Cube Pro uses an internal 3000mAh battery charged at up to 1.6A rate via the Micro USB Port.cube pro battery

The OBS Cube FP Kit is based on the Cube X mod.

It’s now using a removable 18650 battery and a variable wattage output of 5-80W.

cube fp main image

This is another family member in the popular range of “Cube” kits.

What To Expect From The OBS Cube FP Kit…

The kit consists of the Cube FP Mod and the Cube tank.

The tank was found in the original Cube kit and the Cube X Kit.

However the main marketing feature is the addition of “fingerprint recognition” to prevent unauthorized use of your vape.

For instance to stop children experimenting with it.

The mod has a tempered glass 3D removable battery compartment and the rest of the mod is made from Zinc Alloy.

There is a colour screen but the size of the display is not stated.

A USB Type C port is included on the device with a 1.6A charging rate, and OBS say this can charge a battery fully in 1.5 hours.

The tank has adjustable airflow on the base and uses the existing Cube M1 coils.

There are 4 colours to choose from: Blue, Shiny Black, Matt Black and Silver Black.

As usual I will report back honestly on my findings of the kit I have in my hand – thank you to New Vaping for sending this over to me!

OBS Cube FP Kit Build Quality and Design

I received the 2ml TPD OBS Cube FP Kit in the Matt Black colour.

cube fp left side

The packaging is great and no damage occurred to any of the kit contents.

I do have one huge moan…

The instruction manual is total pants…it really is.

So far I haven’t worked out how to use the fingerprint stuff, there are diagrams in the book which relate to bugger all on the actual device.

Instructions cubefp
Fingerprint configuration as described in the instruction manual

Worse than that the wattage is locked, not a single mention in the manual of how to fix this.

I ended up going on YouTube and found out you have to press the “-” (Down) adjustment button 3 times to unlock the wattage control.

cube fp front view

It does automatically re-lock itself again afterwards.

OBS Cube FP Mod

This is a stunning looking device and just gives off a huge whiff of quality everywhere you look.

One particularly beautiful feature is the screen – the display is bright, clear, uncluttered and really pretty colours.

On the screen panel is also the fire button which has an LED indicator circling it which changes colours according to status of fingerprint stuff and when firing.

cube fp green LED

The button is almost flush with the surrounding panel so doesn’t exactly give off any clicky sensations but seems perfectly responsive.

Below the screen is a silver OBS logo which matches the surround of the fire button and front panel.

A USB type C port is below the logo and the adjustment buttons are just to the side of the screen.

The base of the mod features the legal logos and “Designed by OBS” text.

The metal part of the device body is matte black and the removable curved cover has a lovely honeycomb pattern.

cube fp side view

There is plenty of magnetic resistance when removing the curved cover plate and this seems really sturdy, and it has a glass cover protecting the graphics.

On the inside of the cover is a strip of what appears to be insulating material – this is at the point where the cover could contact the battery. So this is added protection if your battery wraps are not totally isolating the battery.

cube fp insulation

The only slight whinge is that there is a seam at the rear of the cover which does spoil the aesthetics slightly.

Looking in the battery compartment this is pretty basic, with etched + and – marks and a lovely ribbon for pulling out the battery.

The 510 connector is virtually flush with the top of the mod and the included tank sits perfectly with no gap visible.

There is a circular protection plate which should stop any wear to the top of the mod from your tank and this is secured with 2 small screws.

All of this assembly is super shiny and looks well made.

cube fp top view

I think a 24-25mm tank should sit on here OK – there might be slight overhang where the screen panel slightly tapers off.

OBS Cube FP Tank

The tank has been used before in OBS kits but this is the first time I have used this tank.

The top screws off with a push down and around 1/4 turn.

This is easy to grip and the fill ports circle around most of the top of the tank.

cube tank refill ports

A kind of conical 810 drip tip sits on the top which I think looks lovely. I have tried 2 different 810 drip tips (With O-ring and Without O-ring) and both fitted perfectly.

There is little branding on the actual main part of the tank apart from the “Cube” logo on the airflow ring.

The base of the tank has the legal logos and “Designed by OBS”, “cube” and what appears to be a serial number stamped in.

cube fp kit tank

You can adjust the incoming airflow by rotating the control ring and this turns smoothly.cube fp airflow

Like the mod the tank just ooozes quality.

I had no leaks at all from the tank itself or the airflow. I did have some issues when changing the coil but I will cover this further down the review.

Plus the tank base is hard to grip for changing the coil.

OBS Cube FP Kit Quick Start Guide

The kit arrives with the tank and mod separate. You will need to install an 18650 battery, screw the tank to the mod and fill up.

A coil is already installed but it is always worth just checking it is installed correctly before filling!

OBS Cube FP Basic Operation

As mentioned above the instruction manual is pretty crap.

It does tell you some things but there is a lot missing or not explained properly.

cube fp components

Fear not I have been playing with my Cube FP extensively and can guide you how to get up and running!

  • Turn On / Off = press the fire button 5 times quickly.
  • Unlock wattage adjustment button = press the “-” (Down) adjustment button 3 times.
  • Adjust wattage – use the “-” and “+” buttons after unlocking.
  • Fingerprint entry = press the fire button and the “+” (up) adjustment button at the same time to enter the fingerprint menu. Make sure the adjustment buttons are unlocked!
  • Turn off fingerprint entry = press the “+” and “-” buttons at the same time. This will only work after the correct fingerprint has been used. Again you will need to unlock the adjustment buttons.
  • Remove stored fingerprints = press the fire button and “-” at the same time. (oh and unlock the adjustment buttons yeh!)

OBS Cube FP Fingerprint Menu

Enter the fingerprint menu as stated above.

The device will then ask you to “Please touch“.

please touch

This does not mean touch the screen (which I had been trying for ages) it means touch the fire button with the finger you will use mostly to fire with – in my case it is my thumb.

The screen will tell you to “loosen” – i.e. remove your finger from the fire button.

It then repeats the touch and loosen instructions until your entire fingerprint has been read successfully.

please loosen

After this has been stored the device will recognize your finger when you press fire and the button light will turn from blue to green, and a small vibration is also emitted when successful.

If a fingerprint is not recognized the button light will turn red.

I tried to unlock with my little finger and got the red light and “please retry” displayed on the screen.

led meaning

I basically played with this a couple of times then turned it off!

Fault Conditions

  • Low Voltage = device vibrates twice – the battery is below 3.3V install a new battery or recharge.
  • Short circuit = device vibrates twice = check atomizer and battery connection.
  • Check atomiser = open circuit, faulty coil or no tank installed – device will vibrate twice.

OBS Cube FP – How To Remove/Install The Battery

Make sure to use a 18650 battery which is in good condition and suitable for the output required.

  • The cover plate just pulls off from the main body, there is a slight resistance due to the magnets.battery cover removed
  • Install the battery with the ribbon underneath and poking out the side following the polarity markings on the device.
  • Replace the cover plate by just sliding into position.

How To Fill The OBS Cube FP Tank

  • Slightly push down on the top cap and unscrew around 1/4 turn and the cap should lift off.
  • Add e-liquid through the fill ports whilst observing the level through the tank glass.cube fp tank filling
  • Replace the top cap.

How To Change the OBS Cube FP Coil

If the tank is more than around 1/3rd full there might be some liquid leaking when you remove the tank base – so make sure to have plenty of mopping up apparatus around!

tank components

  • Remove the tank from the mod.
  • Turn the tank upside down and unscrew the tank base.
  • In theory the coil should still be screwed to the tank base – if so unscrew the coil.
  • In reality I found the coil did not stay attached to the tank base but was attached to the inner chimney instead.tank coil stuck
  • Using tweezers unscrew the coil from the chimney – don’t hold onto the end part as this will just pull off the coil. Make sure to grab the coil body.
  • Screw a new coil onto the tank base – make sure all O-rings are positioned correctly. When I unpacked the spare coil the O-ring had become detached from the coil – so always check before installing.
  • Replace the base onto the main tank.
  • Refill as described above – leave the coil for 10-15 mins to soak up the e-liquid before use and check level.

How Does the OBS Cube FP Kit Perform?

As this is a sub ohm tank I used my favourite 80%VG e-liquid at 3mg nicotine strength – the coil friendly Stika Bombz Fruit Salad.

As the Cube tank has already been covered in a previous review I can only add how I got on with the tank.

OBS Cube FP – M1 Mesh Coil

So the Cube M1 coil is a mesh type which can be used from 50-80W and OBS suggest 65-75W as the best power level.

I will be honest here, since giving up smoking in June 2019 I have been vaping MTL (Mouth To Lung) kits with nicotine salts.

Apart from the odd review device I haven’t had much to do with DTL (Direct To Lung) tanks.

If you are unsure what DTL and MTL mean we tell you more in our Guide To Vaping Styles.

So with my wussy non-cloud loving lungs accustomed to lower power vaping I found 55W to be absolutely perfect for me.

At 65W there is a lot more flavour but the vape feels drier and me being a chicken I was constantly worrying there would be a dreaded mesh burnt hit. Told you I was a wuss.

At 75W again the flavour ramps up more and so does the warmth of the vapour but I still felt uncomfortable at this level. I am sure many other people would find this to be optimum.

This chucked out a steady flow of horizontal clouds from 55W onward and increasing the power didn’t seem to affect vapour production. I forgot how quickly you can cloud a room up!

There were no wicking issues at all with 80%VG e-liquid the mesh and cotton seem to be perfectly suited.

So far I have refilled the 2ml tank 8 times and the flavour is still perfect.

OBS Cube FP – Airflow

On the closed setting this does what it says on the tin – fully closed. In the fully open position this is pretty airy but also a bit noisy.

I tended to use this in around 1/3rd open position for a restricted DTL vape.

OBS Cube FP – Mod Operation

In general the mod itself worked well, quick to fire (with FP turned off) and the power level seems to be accurate compared to other devices with the same tank.

My main gripes are the output when the battery charge is low – the “Low Battery” warning should display a lot earlier as there comes a point where the mod can barely heat up the coil and you have to change the battery with what appears to be 10-15% charge remaining.

My other main issue is the Fingerprint security stuff.

I do understand it helps with safety and stops some robbing git using your vape, but it got annoying very quickly.

If you put your mod down for a short while and pick it up and just vape – nothing happens. You have to wait for the fingerprint confirmation then press fire again to fire the device.

This got on my knockers to put it bluntly.

Also setting up the fingerprint function took a bit of fiddling as the instructions were not clear.

I also found when vaping regularly the mod did get quite hot.

Bear in mind I was only vaping at 55W which is well below the max output and upper recommended power limit of the coils.

Battery Life

As always your battery life will vary according to your vaping frequency, the coil you have installed and the power level selected.

But to give you a guide I used 2 Samsung 25R (2500mAh) batteries and did 2 timed runs with the FP scanner turned off.

At 55W I got 213 puffs and 5 hours vaping out of the first battery I tried and 209 puffs and just under 5 hours vaping from my second battery.

One massive issue is that when the battery charge drops to around 10% on the display the mod doesn’t have enough power to provide a decent vape.

When the battery is fully charged and the mod is set to 55W – the voltage reading when vaping is around 3.3V.

However this reduces as the battery discharges and when only about 10% charge left this output drops to around 1.5V and there is not enough power to heat up the coil sufficiently.

Pros

  • Stunning looking kit – really looks quality.
  • Screen is beautiful and clear.
  • Fingerprint recognition does work – it can be fiddly to set up.
  • Beautiful flavour even at the lower power range of coil.
  • Horizontal streams of clouds from 55W and upwards!
  • USB Type C charging is useful.
  • Mod and tank are both really well made.

Cons

  • Coil often became detached from the tank base and needed tweezers to unscrew it from the chimney.
  • I did end up turning the fingerprint sensor off as I got annoyed with the delay in firing.
  • The instructions are not great to be honest.
  • Mod got quite hot at only 55W
  • When battery charge level is low the mod struggles to output any power – way before the “battery low” warning displays.

Final Review Verdict

All in all this is a gorgeous looking kit which is very well made.

I cannot fault the flavour or vapour from the Cube tank and I used it well below the maximum rating, so it can only get more intense above that!

The mod has a few niggles – the fingerprint delay was easily solved by turning the scanning mode off completely, but the heat in the mod and the power drop were disappointing.

A poor instruction manual did add to my woes – the FP setup and things like the wattage lock were not adequately covered – this would really confuse a newbie.

If you already have one of the Cube mods – unless you want to change for more power or a removable battery I wouldn’t bother just buying this for the fingerprint security.

But saying that – if you did buy the OBS Cube FP Kit you wouldn’t be upset, it is by no means a stinker, it performs well and looks the part – but isn’t quite perfect.

Is this a vape kit you’re interested in buying?

Are you already using it?

The OBS Cabo Pod Kit at first glance looks like a mash up of the Voopoo Vinci and the OBS Cube mod…

OBS Cabo Pod Kit

But there is something that sets this apart from both of the mentioned kits – so let’s have a closer look!

What To Expect From The OBS Cabo Pod Kit?

The main feature and selling point of this kit is the fact that it has “Fingerprint recognition”. OBS Cabo Pod Kit components

I am currently reviewing the OBS Cube FP with this technology and also the recent VapeFly TGO pod mod had this feature too.

OBS Cabo Pod Kit fingerprint

As to how useful the fingerprint system is – is up to the user, but it is mainly to prevent unauthorized use of your vape – important when there are children around.

Looking at the main device now – this uses a single 18650 battery which is not included.OBS Cabo Pod Kit battery

There is a USB Type C charging port for emergency charging and apparently will charge a battery in 1.5hours.

Using a Variable Wattage adjustment system the output is between 5-80W.OBS Cabo Pod Kit output

All of your vaping data is displayed on the LED display – however the screen size is not stated.

Moving on to the pod – this is refillable and has replaceable coils.OBS Cabo Pod Kit refilling

There are 2 pods included in the kit which have different airflow options:

  • 3.5ml Restricted Direct to lung
  • 3ml Direct to lung

We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide to MTL and DTL Vaping styles.cabo pods coils

I imagine the pod capacity will be reduced for retail in TPD regulated areas.

As mentioned above the coils are replaceable and this uses the new OM range of coils. There are 2 coils included in the kit:

  • OM CA Mesh 0.4ohm
  • OM BO Mesh 0.2ohm

There are 3 colours to choose from: Black, Gunmetal and Chrome.

The OBS Alter AIO Kit is up for review today, a power-packed 5-70W AIO/Pod crossover that promises to deliver on versatility and battery life!

There’s pod style cartridges, MTL and DTL coil head options, mesh coil options and replaceable coil heads. A compact design, but with a whopping 2500 mAh internal battery, and an ultra sleek and gorgeous metallic finish…what’s not to like?

obs alter kit main

Well, unfortunately…plenty, as you’ll see later in this review.

What Can We Expect From the OBS Alter AIO?

Having enjoyed reviewing the OBS BAT kit many moons ago and having admired their sleek releases like the Cirius RDTA and the sexy Cube Kit, the Cube Mini and the Cube X, I was excited to get my hands on some more of their gear.

Since I encountered issues with my first sample of the Alter AIO, including excessive leaking, jammed fill port caps and general messiness, I was keen to experience better luck with their speedy replacement sample.

That one arrived in an even sexier color than the previous one and promised so much!

Read on to see how I fared.

Design and Build Quality

OBS Alter AIO Mod

Opening up the neat, yellow box packaging, I instantly take a liking to the Alter kit’s sleek and sophisticated look and gorgeous mirror like finish.

I received the black version, which has a fish net patterning with a thick clear overlay which gives the decal a sense of depth.

obs alter kit hand

Then, I received the magnificent blue version, which has an incredible fine diagonal line patterning, an exquisite color grading from purple at the bottom into blue at the top and that same thick clear overlay which adds depth and an ethereal sheen to the finish.

Both versions are certified fingerprint magnets.

A simple, rectangular box design, with rounded edges, fits neatly in the palm of your hand, compact but clearly beefier than your average pod mod.

There are 14 small battery ventilation holes at the base, controls and OLED screen running up one narrow side and a recess in the top, into which the pod cartridge fits to reveal a juice-level window and a view of the coil head on the top of the narrow side opposite the controls.

OBS Alter AIO juice window

There is an OBS stamp in small lettering at the bottom of one colored side and a small ‘A’ logo near the middle of the other, with ALTER in unassuming lettering near the bottom.

With the cartridge installed, all but the two larger, coloured and resin finished sides is black, matte finished zinc alloy.

OBS Alter AIO OLED Screen and Controls

The control side of the mod has a USB C port at the bottom, with dual arrow shaped adjustment buttons above that, OLED screen above that.

There’s a clicky, round and metallic fire button above that and a small, sliver of window to the tank above, and on the actual cartridge.

kit controls

This sliver of window is obviously decorative, as the juice levels can only be checked through the larger viewing window on the opposite side, where the corner of the mod section is ‘cut away’ revealing a larger section of the cartridge…see pics!

The OLED screen is small but comprehensive, with pictorial battery level display, wattage setting, resistance, voltage, puff counter and puff timer.

The screen is bright and easily visible in any light.

OBS Alter AIO Tank

The tank is a pod cartridge style design, with a removable drip tip off to the side at the top and a slider (which unlocks with a button on the opposite side at the top) through which you access the fill port.

One upper corner of the cartridge remains visible when the pod is installed, revealing the juice window, as well as 15 small airflow holes on either side, through which air is sucked when you draw, quite ingenious.

exploded view

On both the MTL and the DTL pods, the coil-head is removed by simply pulling the coil base out of the bottom of the pod and unscrewing it from the base, I love this feature!

Only the MTL pod has adjustable airflow on the coil base, a small plastic lip obscures or reveals a series of small airflow holes or a larger airflow slot, respectively, depending on what resistance you’re after.

All cartridges fit effortlessly in and out of the top of the mod, with a strong magnet holding the cartridge in place and no imperfect seams, very nice indeed!

On the surface at least, this is a gorgeous, beautifully designed device.

OBS Alter AIO Top Fill

The fill port is accessed via a small slider, which unlocks by depressing a little arrow shaped button whilst sliding.

fill

The port has a membrane seal, through which you must press your juice nozzle.

The membrane is very recessed and hard to penetrate with shorter nozzles and a has a tendency to pool liquid between itself and the slider, whenever you fill the pod.

How Does The OBS Alter AIO Kit Perform?

It really is a beautiful little kit, with clean lines, an attractive design and an ergonomic feel.

I am, unhappily, not able to use the MTL cartridge for MTL since, even with the airflow on its tightest setting, I just can’t get enough resistance for an MTL draw.

obs-alter-kit-review

That said, airflow is very smooth and perhaps some vapers will find no issues with MTL on this airflow.

The device packs a punch in the upper wattage range, more than you’d expect from such a compact design.

All controls are speedy and responsive, with no issues powering down or up.

I find the automatic power lock feature is a good addition for safety reasons but it’s also bloody irritating.

Coil readings are instant and accurate and I like the fact that I can use my baby beast coils in the DTL cartridge.

Once I received my replacement sample, I realized that the chronic leaking issue I’d experienced with my first DTL cartridge was due to the coil head and not the cartridge itself.

The replacement DTL coil head didn’t leak but sadly, one of the replacement MTL coil heads did.

0.2Ohm M1 DL Coil

This mesh coil head has a recommended range of 50-70 W with a sweet spot at about 60W.

This coil head chucks clouds at an insane rate and flavour is rich and juicy.

Take note however, you need to be careful as juice level drops fast and the cotton tends to burn as soon as its juice inlets are exposed above the liquid line.

My first sample of this coil head leaked excessively and drove me fucking insane.

0.15 Ohm SX Coil

The warmer vaping of the two MTL/nic salt coil heads, this baby is designed for 20-25 W vaping. Great flavour for a nic salt coil head with outstanding vapour production

As mentioned, I’m unable to MTL vape at this airflow resistance, even when dialed down.

With a short burst DTL hit I get good vapour production here so I expect, if you like an open-airflow flow MTL, you’ll have a great experience with this coil head.

1.4 Ohm NX MTL Coil

A much cooler MTL here, with the device limiting this coil to a 12 W setting.

Unfortunately, at such a cool setting and with my issue with the unrestricted airflow on this cartridge, I’m unable to give you a good review of this coil head as I simply can’t use it as it was intended.

My second sample of this coil head leaked excessively, driving me fucking insane for the second time in as many weeks.

I was unable to draw at all without a mess inside the cartridge recess and an empty tank after 5 seconds.

OBS Alter AIO Battery Life

A 2500 mAh on board battery makes for good battery life on this device, although on the bottom two bars, the DTL coil-head simply doesn’t get enough power.

With constant vaping on the DTL coil in the recommended range, you’ll get about 4.5 hours before you have to charge.

Battery life would be better if I could use this device for MTL but sadly, as mentioned, the airflow is to open for me.

Pros

  • An attractive device with a gorgeous metallic finish
  • Ergonomic and compact
  • Responsive controls
  • Impressive cloud and flavour
  • Versatile and convenient
  • Compatible with Smok Baby Beast coil heads (DL)

Cons

  • Many of the coil heads leak excessively, making them un-vape-able
  • Some users will find the airflow too open for MTL, as I did
  • Filling can be a little messy
  • DL coil struggles when battery is low

Final Review Verdict

The OBS Alter kit is really a mixed bag of nuts for me.

A leaky coil head is irritating enough but having received two coil heads out of 6 that leaked so much they were unusable is a little too much for me to recommend this kit wholeheartedly.

Also, if, like me, you require a high airflow restriction to MTL vape comfortably, you might find that the MTL cartridge is not of much use.

With that said, there were so many amazing features on this device that I really did appreciate, the look and ergonomics, the battery life, the beautiful vapour production and flavour.

I just hope OBS can sort these design and manufacturing faults out ASAP because then the OBS Alter kit would be one of smoothest and most badass AIOs on the market.

So have you had the same issues with the leaky coils?

Is this a kit you’re likely to buy?

The OBS Cube Pod Mod kit is yet another of the new generation pod kits to hit the market.

Wow – OBS are really milking the success of the first “Cube” mod and now we have the OBS Cube Pod!

cube pod preview

The Cube mod was followed by the Cube MTL kit, then the Cube Mini, the removable battery Cube X and the fingerprint recognition Cube FP.cube pod banner

With the trend towards pod style mods the Cube Pod is right on trend…

What Does The OBS Cube Pod Have To Offer?

So following on in the same styling as the rest of the Cube range – the pod version is a lot thinner and less of a “cube” – more of a flattened rectangle.components

Like the recent Cube FP the body is Zinc Alloy with a Tempered Glass panel.

There is no screen on the pod and the wattage appears to be a constant 13W output.

Battery wise this contains a 850mAh battery which is charged using the included lanyard style USB Type C cable.cube pod battery

The charging rate is a maximum of 0.8A and OBS state this can be fully charged in 40 minutes.cube pod type c lanyard

The front panel has a fire button for operation but no mention of any LED indicators for battery life display?

cube pod design

Looking at the pod now – this is a disposable style – you cannot replace the coil. However it is refillable and depending on which kit you receive will hold either 4ml or 2ml (for TPD regulated areas) of your own e-liquid.cube pod 4ml capacity

Inside the pod is a 1.4ohm coil. The airflow doesn’t appear to be adjustable.
