Today is a double feature day here at Ecigclick with the introduction of the Indulgence Sweet Tooth line.

I’ve always had a liking for Unicig products from the Mutation X through to the Hera Tank and all those Tanks, RDA’s and RDTA’s in between.

Unicig Sweet Tooth Kits

Unicig are one of the leading electronic cigarette manufacturers in Shenzhen China, since 2008 they have been dedicated to bringing innovative products through their designs.

The Indulgence ST RDTA and 2ml Stock Tank

The Indulgence range of products have always shouted quality with great performance to me so let us find out what Unicig have in store for us this time. Will these Tanks be sweet or leave a sour taste in the mouth.

Design and Build Quality

Both tanks are made of 304 grade stainless steel and Pyrex.

Unicig Sweet Tooth 2ml

They are topped off with Delrin drip-tip’s and like the rest of my experience with Unicig products, they are of excellent quality.

The designs for both Sweet Tooth tanks are very good and well thought out, totally in keeping with what I expected from UNICIG, all threads are smooth and work well.

The RDTA is a dual coil tank with velocity style block posts, while the 2ml tank holds a single stock coil head in a cup.

No machine oil residue was found in either tank.

Unicig Sweet Tooth rdta

A quick guide to changing the coils and filling the tanks

You do not have to empty either Tank before changing coils or cotton.

Sweet Tooth 2ml Tank

To change the stock coil:

  • Press down the airflow/top cap (it’s a child lock feature)
  • Remove the chimney
  • Remove old coil and replace with a new one
  • Fill the tank/cup half full with your e-liquid. Don’t go over half way or you will have a flood as the coil displaces the liquid when replaced an screwed into position
  • Remember to pre wick the stock coil with a few drops of liquid through the top of the coil to wet the cotton.

Sweet Tooth RDTA

  • Close off the bottom airflow
  • Remove the top cap/ airflow ring
  • Place your coils in the velocity style block posts, wick to your desire!
  • The ST RDTA has a fill port on one side rather like the Limitless RDTA that you can open and close!
  • I recommended you only use a needle nose bottle to fill the tank (don’t forget to prime the wicks and close of the liquid port)
  • Replace the top cap/airflow ring.

How Do The Sweet Tooth Tank’s Perform?

The Sweet Tooth 2ml Stock Tank disassembles into 4 pieces:

  • Cup or tank
  • Stock Coil
  • Chimney and top airflow
  • Delrin Driptip

Cup/Tank

Made of 304 stainless steel and Pyrex with a silver plated copper 510 pin.

Take care of this part of the tank! If you break the glass you will be looking at buying a completely new tank as the Pyrex glass is not replaceable. Only fill the cup/tank to half full.

Stock Coils

The tank comes, pre installed with a 0.5 kanthal coil rated at 15 to 30w the spare coil is rated the same but is a stainless steel 0.5 coil.

Chimney and top airflow The chimney holds the stock coil by threads, the airflow is of a cylon style continuous spin action dual airflow (in other words it has no stop guide for the airflow), the top airflow has a child lock feature which you have to push down upon before you can remove the chimney to fill the tank or change your coil.

Delrin driptip tops the assembly off.

The Coil Adaptor comes as an added bonus that will allow you to use BF coils made by Joytech and Totally Wicked, the adaptor just screws into the BF coil and into the chimney section.

Using the BF coils will allow you to have maybe an extra ½ ml of liquid in the tank as these coils are a lot smaller than the supplied coils.

The Sweet Tooth RDTA disassembles into 6 parts.

  • Fill port and build deck
  • Base and bottom airflow
  • Sleeve and airflow ring
  • Pyrex glass tank
  • Top cap and airflow adjustment
  • Driptip

The Fill Port and build deck

Featuring a velocity style block build deck with wick holes to poke your cotton through to the tank.

The internal airflow is integrated into the block style posts as a centre post/chimney.

The air goes in through the adjustable bottom airflow on the base and strikes your coils from the bottom or centre depending how you have your coils seated.

The posts or blocks are of a four hole design, it’s extremely easy to install your coils.

Because of the design of the posts/blocks the peek insulator is situated inside of the centre post. The liquid fill port is closable

Base/bottom airflow/ Pyrex tank

The Stainless Steel, build deck screws onto the base so your coils are seated over the pyrex tank, the base has two bottom airflow slots that are a single stop action airflow, the Pyrex tank sits over the base on a couple of O rings.

Sleeve and airflow ring top cap

The Sleeve slides on over your coils and has a separate airflow single and dual adjustable airflow, the airflow is handled and adjusted by the internal ring attached to the top cap the top cap has notches cut into the Delrin to help with the ease of adjustment.

Delrin Driptip

Topping off the RDTA assembly is a wide bore chuff style 510 driptip. In the spares baggy you will find a 510 adaptor so if you wish you could use a 510 driptip on this RDTA.Unicig Sweet Tooth 2ml and rdta

Both Tanks were tested for continuity with a homemade e-liquid I like to call Cheeky Chimp; it’s a salted peanut and banana liquid.

The Sweet Tooth 2ml stock coil tank

At 25w and airflow wide open sitting on my eVic Primo the tank provides an excellent Mouth to Lung style vape full of flavour.

Knocking the wattage up to 30 then 35w with the airflow wide open I was able to get a restricted Straight to Lung draw.

The flavour was not quite as full on as the 25w MTL. The vapour production was good with both styles but truth be told not as good as the Hera tank.

The Sweet Tooth RDTA

This tank is all about airflow and clouds.

Sitting on my Noisy Cricket v2 with a dual pair of 0.4 coils, the dial turn to the fullest setting of 6 volts and airflow open to its fullest the amount of vapour was extraordinary and the flavour was good.

Turning the bottom airflow off and restricting the sleeve airflow to only one space open also turning the power down to 3½ to 4 volts I was able to get a passable MTL draw but I felt that the airflow was still too airy. However, the flavour was even better than that of the 2ml tank.

See The Indulgence Sweet Tooth Tanks In Action With My Video Review

Pros

  • The build quality of these tanks are excellent
  • Great vapour production from the RDTA, good from the 2ml Stock tank
  • The flavour from both was excellent
  • The RDTA is very easy to coil being a velocity style block deck ideal for those new to coiling
  • The 2ml tank is no fuss coil in and go tank
  • A bonus with the 2ml tank is the coil adaptor

Cons

  • No real big cons with either tank
  • I will just mention the fill port of the RDTA you will need to wait for the coils to cool before opening the port or risk burning your fingers

Final Review Verdict

Well done Unicig these tanks are indeed Sweet! From design, manufacturing to the end user i.e. me!

I have already said I like Unicig products these two tanks for me go well beyond just like!

They are both designed for the novice user easy to use at all stages, I would happily recommend them both.

Would I buy the Indulgence Sweetooth tanks again if I lost or damaged either one? Oh yes!

The RDTA would be on my shopping list first as it’s a far better fit for me. But for travelling in the car the 2ml stock coil tank is also a winner in my book.

Today we are taking a look at the Indulgence Unicig X Tank, from the Chinese vape brand Unicig. Unicig aren’t as prolific in their releases but what they have given us in the past has been, on the whole, a mix of great quality and performance.

Some of their other products include Mutation X V5 RDA, Indulgence ST RDTA and Indulgence ST TANK 2ml as well as the Indulgence Hera tank I previously reviewed.

I’ve always had a liking for UNICCIG products, so today we are going to take a look at their Indulgence X- Tank. A dual purpose RTA that transforms into an RDA, take a look at what we thought about this RTA/RDA.

In The Box

  • 1  X-Tank
  • 1  Baggy of Spares
  • 1  Spare Pyrex Tank
  • 1  Quality Card
  • 1  Instruction Sheet

Main Specs/Features

  • Material : 304 SS & Pyrex glass
  • Diameter: 25mm
  • Length:55.7 mm
  • Weight:59.4g
  • Capacity:5ml
  • Contact: 510 silver plated copper
  • Insulator: peek
  • Colour’s/black

Design and Build Quality

The X-Tank is built entirely from 304 stainless steel and Pyrex, and is topped of with a Delrin drip-tip.

The build quality is excellent as is the design, for my tastes and something I’ve become expectant of from Unicig.

All threads are smooth and work well on this dual coil tank. No machine oil residue was found in this tank (always a good thing) and the X-Tank has a 5ml liquid fill capacity in RTA mode.

How to Change the Coil and Fill the Tank

  • You do not have to empty the X-Tank before changing your cotton or coils!
  • In RTA mode close off the liquid regulator.
  • Turn the RTA upside down and unscrew the base/build deck.
  • Recoil or change your wicks, pre wick your coils and re screw the deck back in to the RTA body.
  • To fill the RTA unscrew the drip-tip and fill through the kidney shaped fill holes with your bottle tip or pipette, re screw the drip-tip into place, open the Liquid regulator away you vape.
  • If in RDA mode – unscrew the RDA body from the base/build deck
  • Recoil or change your wicks, pre wick your coils and re screw the deck back in to the RDA body.
  • Unlike the RTA mode. You do not fill the RDA. Simply remove the drip-tip and drip your e-liquid directly on to your coils and cotton, don’t forget to replace the driptip 🙂Indulgence X Tank coiled and wicked

How Does The Indulgence X-Tank Perform?

The Indulgence X-Tank in RTA mode disassembles into 5 parts, In RDA mode 4 parts

  • Airflow/build deck/base (RTA/RDA)
  • RTA body with liquid regulator (RTA)
  • RDA Sleeve (RDA)
  • Pyrex glass tank (RTA)
  • Top cap/ driptip (RTA/RDA)
  • Driptip adaptor (RTA/RDA)

The Airflow/build deck and base

Measuring 25mm the base has a velocity style deck with a wick retaining ring and a cylon style single action adjustable bottom airflow.

The air goes in through the adjustable airflow and strikes your coils from the bottom.

The 510 connection pin is made of silver plated copper (RTA & RDA modes)

RTA body with liquid regulator

The Stainless Steel body with vapour chimney screws onto the deck over your coils.

Integrated into the RTA body is the adjustable liquid regulator (look for the lock and unlock symbols on the ring) this can be adjusted to allow as much or as little liquid through to your coils as desired. Of course, RTA mode only.

RDA SleeveThe Stainless Steel screws onto the deck over your coils (RDA mode only)

The Pyrex Tank/ Juice Intake

Sits over the liquid regulator an O Ring cushions the bottom of the tank, the kidney shaped liquid intake screws on to the chimney and is seated on the Pyrex tank cushioned by an O Ring (RTA mode only)

The Top Cap/ Driptip

Screws into the liquid intake (RTA mode only)

The adaptor screws into the bottom of the driptip and is held in place by an O Ring on the RDA sleeve (RDA mode only)

Flavour and Vapour

This tank was tested using an 80/20 high VG liquid Green from Anarchist and 0.4 kanthal coils.

I tested at 45 watts in RDA mode first then RTA mode on the Wismec RX300.

I found both the flavour and the quality of vapour to be excellent with whichever combination I used.

With the airflow set at half using mouth to lung style of vaping, the flavour was very good.

Opening the airflow to its fullest and pumping the wattage up to 80 watts in increments of 5w and using a direct to lung vaping style in both modes I lost no flavour at all the resulting vapour was thick and creamy.

There was an issue with condensation build up and resulting leakage through the airflow in RDA mode which was a negative for me.

I have to say, the Indulgence X-Tank is a very interesting bit of kit.

X Tank Adaptor Issue

The only thing I found I didn’t like about the X-Tank was the adaptor that is used in RDA mode.

The bore of the threads were too big to fit into the female threads of the driptip!

However this did not stop me using the RDA mode as you saw above. The O Ring around the standard driptip/top cap is strong enough to hold it in the RDA tube.

I wondered if this was unique to my tank. After watching a video on YouTube by a Russian guy I can confirm this problem is unique to my X-Tank and does not affect all product.

What I Like

I like the fact that this is a dual style tank RTA and RDA. The build quality in the main is excellent as is the design.

Also, when chain vaping it took quite a while for the tank to become hot in either mode.

The velocity deck is a delight to build on the deck itself can take much larger coils than I put in it to test it.

I love the idea of the 5ml liquid capacity and ability to turn off the liquid regulator so you can very easily change your coils or wicks in RTA mode. A great design feature for sure.

What I Didn’t Like

The As touched on above, the adapter I received in the kit didn’t fit properly.

Final Review Verdict

In RTA mode the Idulgence X-Tank does exactly as it says, however, disappointment hit this reviewer when I found that the adaptor didn’t fit in RDA mode!

While this did not affect the function, having a flat base to the drip-tip/top cap caused condensation to leak from the airflow. I found in RDA mode this tank to be a disappointment.

Would I buy this tank again if I lost or damaged it?

It’s a maybe from me, if only to see if the adaptor fits on the next one.

Pros

  • The build quality of this tank is excellent in the main
  • Great vapour production in either mode
  • The flavour is excellent with no loss at higher wattages
  • The tank is very easy to coil being a velocity deck ideal for those new to coiling
  • Very easy to use in either mode RTA or RDA

Cons

  • The only Con would be the driptip/top cap adaptor threads not being of the correct size for RDA mode.

UNICIG are one of the leading electronic cigarette manufacturer and wholesaler in ShenZhen China, since 2008 they have been dedicated to bringing innovative products through their designs.

Unicig Indulgence Hera Tank - kit

Some of their other products include Mutation X V5 RDA, Indulgence ST RDTA and Indulgence ST TANK 2ml

Starting with the Mutation X V4 RDA, I’ve always had a liking for UNICCIG products.

So today we are going to take a quick look at the Hera Tank, a little 2ml stock coil tank, will this tank live up to such a lustrous name and be as hard hitting as her Greek name sake?

Let’s find out

In The Box

  • 1 x Installed 0.4ohm coil, 40-80w
  • 1 x Spare 0.4ohm coil, 40-80w
  • 1 x Baggy of O Rings
  • 1 x Spare Pyrex Tank
  • 1 x Hera Tank
  • 1 x Quality Card
  • 1 x Instruction Sheet

Main Specs/Features

  • Diameter: 22mm
  • Capacity: 2ml
  • Top Filling
  • Sub Ohm
  • Adjustable Airflow
  • Delrin Wide bore Driptip

Design and Build Quality

The Indulgence Hera Tank is built entirely from stainless steel and Pyrex with a 2ml (TPD ready) capacity.

The Tank has a wide bore Delrin drip-tip supplied, the quality of this item is excellent as is the design.

As would be expected from UNICIG, all threads are smooth and work well.

Unicig Indulgence Hera Tank - Hera Tank

The tank was squeaky clean with no machine oil residue.

How to Fill the Indulgence Hera Tank & Change The Coil

  • You will have to empty the Hera Tank before changing coils
  • Remove the top cap and drip-tip discard any liquid
  • Remove the Pyrex glass tank
  • Remove your spent coil by unscrewing the coil from the base
  • Properly pre wick your new coil by dripping liquid onto the cotton through the top of the coil and through the liquid intake holes on the sides of the coil
  • Replace the new coil into the base replace the Pyrex glass
  • Fill the Hera tank by placing your bottles needle nose or dripping Pipette on the inside of the glass tank up against your coil
  • Replace the top cap and driptip
  • Leave the Hera Tank for at least 5 minutes so the cotton has chance to soak up more liquidUnicig Indulgence Hera Tank - space to fill

It is recommended by me, that before you fire the Hera Tank for the first time you perform a dry pull.

This is done by closing off the airflow completely and your taking 2 or 3 sharp pulls without firing. Then open the airflow vape away.

How Does The Hera Tank Perform?

The Hera Tank disassembles into 5 parts for easy cleaning

Unicig Indulgence Hera Tank - Assembly

  • Airflow base
  • Preinstalled 0.4ohm coil head
  • Pyrex 2ml glass tank
  • Top cap
  • Delrin driptip

The Airflow and baseUnicig Indulgence Hera Tank - coil

Measuring 22mm the base holds your coil and has a cylon style, single action adjustable bottom airflow, the 510 connection pin is made of gold plated stainless steel.

The Tank

Sits over the coil and is connected to the base via O Rings.

The tank for the Hera is made of Pyrex glass and holds 2ml of liquid!

The Top CapUnicig Indulgence Hera Tank - topcap

This tank was tested using an 80/20 high VG called liquid Lava Juice from TMB Notes.Unicig Indulgence Hera Tank - on mod

Tested at 40, 50 and 60 watts I found both the flavour and the quality of vapour to be excellent with this tank.

At 40W using mouth to lung style of vaping with the airflow set at half, the flavour was unsurpassed, in fact it was the best flavour I’ve ever had from mouth to lung style of vaping.

Pumping the wattage up to 60 watts in increments of 5w, with airflow fully open and using straight to lung vaping style I lost no flavour at all.

The resulting vapour was thick and creamy. The Indulgence Hera Tank does get a little warm when chain vaping but soon cools down.Unicig Indulgence Hera Tank - closeup

See The Hera Tank In Action With My Video Review

What I Like

I like the fact that this is a no nonsense tank – plug your coil in, fill and away you go!

Even at a low wattage 40w the flavour and vapour I experienced was excellent, no dry hits when pushed up to 60 watts even with a high VG liquid.

In fact I feel that the 0.4 coil could easily handle 10 more watts

What I Didn’t Like

It is a little frustrating that the liquid capacity is only 2ml! But being the climate with the TPD I accept this slight limitation and move on.

Only one really frustrating thing I don’t like about this tank – make sure when you screw your coil into the base it is tight and don’t over tighten the top cap or your coil will unscrew when the time comes to re fill your e-liquid.

Final Review Verdict

I love the little Indulgence Hera Tank! So much so it has already entered my daily rotation.

It’s simple to use no nonsense tank. I would say that the Hera Tank fully lives up to its goddess name sake.

For those of you that are looking for a flavour tank that will also deliver a good amount of vapour, or are new to vaping looking for your next tank you wouldn’t go far wrong in choosing the Hera Tank.

Would I buy this tank again if I lost or damaged it?

It goes without saying that the answer would be a big fat yes.

Pros

  • The build quality of this tank is excellent
  • The tank is very easy to setup and easy to use
  • The flavour is excellent with no loss at higher wattages
  • Juice wicking is excellent with high VG liquids

Cons

  • Frustratingly small 2ml tank, but not a deal breaker
  • The coil can easily undo if not tightened enough into the base

A tantalizing sneak peek at the latest addition to the much loved Mutation X RDA stable.

This will be the Mutation X V6 and manufacturers Indulgence says it will continue the superb 9 airflow hole design.

mutation x v6

It will feature a two post clamp style deck with post holes big enough to handle up to 3mm wire as well as being able to fit various types of coil builds.

mutation x v6 clamps

The Mutation X V6 will have what Indulgence are calling a ‘creative bottom fed airflow’ which they say guarantees ‘exquisite flavour’.

Add to that improved paint and a larger e-liquid reservoir and this looks like being an RDA that will prove to be extremely popular.

There’s not much information around at the moment with Indulgence offering little other than the odd photo on social media.

mutation x v6 colours

However we do know it will be available in that stunning blood red and stainless steel.

As soon as we get a release date you’ll be the first to know and do keep an eye out for an upcoming review.

Over the last few years, the Mutation X series of RDA’s by Indulgence have become incredibly popular with vapers.

Now, Indulgence has released their latest version of their highly popular atomizer in the form of the Mutation X V5.indulgence mutation xv5 review

So, what’s so different from the Mutation X V4 you may well ask!

What Can We Expect From The Mutation X V5?

Well, quite a bit actually. The V5 still retains the increasingly popular Velocity styled build deck however, it now also incorporates a second post-less deck to mix things up a bit.

The airflow has also had a major revamp. Bottom airflow is now gone………yep, that’s right, completely gone! Presumably, this is to make way for the dual multi-build deck.

Side airflow remains the same with the Indulgence trademark nine hole classic design, as previous versions of the atomizer. And a new top airflow arrangement has been introduced.

So, do any of these changes improve on the performance of the V5 over the previous version? Let’s take a look.

What’s In The Box

  • 1 Mutation X V5 RDA
  • 1 510 Drip Tip Adapter
  • 1 Replacement Ceramic Insulator
  • 1 Philips Screwdriver
  • 1 Allen Key
  • 6 Spare O-Rings
  • 4 Philips Screws
  • 12 Allen Screws (Grub Screws)

Features

  • 22mm Diameter
  • Dual Mode Build Deck
  • Velocity Style 2 Post Dual Terminal Build Deck
  • 3mm by 2mm Diameter Terminals (2 per post)
  • Unique Top Airflow
  • 304 Stainless Steel

Build Quality & Design

The overall build quality of the Mutation X V5 is of a relatively good standard, and at its price point you’re definitely getting a bargain with this RDA.

On my initial un-boxing and inspection there were a few burrs on both the stainless steel section of the deck and also on the ceramic insulator but were nothing too onerous and easily removed.Mutation X V5 review

There were no machining scratches or dents and no signs of machine oil anywhere.

Starting at the top of the atomiser, you have a sloped 10.5mm wide bore competition style delrin driptip. Not massive but quite adequate.

The driptip can be swapped out for the included flush-fitting 510 drip tip adaptor, so you can use your own tips, which is a nice feature.

Airflow

Below the driptip you have the the AFC top cap which incorporates the all new AFC ring which replaces the bottom airflow found in the previous editions of the RDA.mutation x v5 airflow

This top airflow system forces air down through the bladed angular channels on the inside of the top cap, to create a cyclonic affect and directs the airflow over the coils.

The AFC ring was very smooth and easy to open & close and is fitted with a stop to prevent the ring continually rotating.

Below the AFC ring is the iconic parallelogram array of the adjustable side airflow system, which has also featured on the previous edition of the RDA.

As with the top airflow, the side adjustable airflow was easy to open & close and very smooth to use.

Build Deck

The crowning feature of the Mutation X V5 is the revamped build deck, or should I say build decks. Indulgence have redesigned the build area of the RDA to incorporate both a velocity styled deck and also a post-less deck.

Switching between the two is relatively straight forward. The velocity posts are held down onto the deck with two small screws and removing these opens up the deck for post-less use.

Mutation X V5 2 Post Deck

I did have a slight issue building on the post-less deck when it came to fitting

the grub screws that hold the coils in place as these are installed at the bottom of the RDA through the sides of the deck.mutation xv5 postless deck

In this location you can’t actually see if the screws as they are being fitted, so it’s was a little bit of trial & error before they fitted correctly.

The dual deck is a really great feature on this RDA, providing an extensive arrangement of coil setups to be built, giving the users the facility to get creative with their coils.

It does seem feasible to use both decks together, although I wasn’t tempted to try a sextuplet coil setup!!

Base

And finally, at the base of the Mutation X V5 is the 510 connection with a non-adjustable silver plated brass pin.

The pin can be unscrewed to allow removal of the ceramic positive block and PEEK 510 insulator from the deck.

Mutation X V5 RDA

Threading on the 510 was nice & smooth and made a good connection to all devices connected.

Overall the build quality and design of the RDA was extremely good. All threads and screws were very smooth and o-rings fitted nice and snuggly.

How Does The ‘Mutation X V5’ Perform?

Building on Velocity styled deck of the V5 was extremely easy thanks to the large post holes and the copious amount of space on the deck.

The only issue I had was with the post-less deck which required the fitting of the grub screws provided in the spares pack.

This was fiddly to say the least and was more down to trial and error due to the position of the holes for the screws which are located in the side of the deck.Mutation X V5 review

And of course my pet peeve of hex/grub screws, which fortunately I didn’t manage to strip on the V5, but it’s only a matter of time!!

I tested numerous builds on both decks with no real issue, finally settling on the velocity deck with a pair of pre-made fused Clapton’s which came out at 0.14ohms.

Wicking as usual was with a healthy amount of Cotton Bacon V2. For e-liquid I used one of my favourite juices, a high VG mix, Kind Juice Once in a Blue Moon, a blueberry flavour.

Airflow on the Mutation X V5 is incredibly airy no matter what way you set it up. I tried various combinations from side only, side & top, top only but just couldn’t find a comfortable setup which suited my style.Mutation X V5 Velocity style deck

Nonetheless, I persevered, however it was all in vain.

While the Mutation X V5 is most definitely a cloud chasers dream, unfortunately flavour production is quite muted. Personally, I think this is solely down to the lack of bottom airflow on the atomiser.

Whilst there were no major issues with building on either of the two decks, no leaks and all of the part fitted together exceptionally well, personally for me the overall performance of the Mutation X V5 was disappointing.

What I Liked

Aesthetically, the Mutation X V5 is tall for an RDA but quite pleasing in appearance! Building on the velocity deck is incredibly easy thanks to the very large post holes and liberal amount of space around the deck.

The overall finish and quality of the atomizer is of a good standard.

What I Dislike

The post-less deck can be a little difficult to build on which is down to the position of the screws located in the side of the deck.

The lack of bottom airflow is, for this vaper, a major flaw in what could have been an exceptional RDA.

Flavour has been sacrificed in favour of cloud production, so I guess it will still appeal to those of us that enjoy cloud chasing.

Final Review Verdict

In a nutshell, the Mutation X V5 personally for me was disappointing. The absence of bottom airflow in favour of a dual build deck has had a major cost associated with it, and that cost is flavour production.

If you just want to blow massive clouds then the V5 will happily accommodate you with its side and top adjustable airflow systems, combined with a spacious dual build deck allowing an infinite number of coil builds to be installed.

Other than the velocity styled deck I really struggled to find any positives with the Mutation X V5 RDA.

Pros

  • Velocity style deck, large post-holes and generous space makes building very easy
  • Great cloud production

Cons

  • Lack of bottom airflow
  • Muted flavour production
  • Post-less deck can be tricky to build on

The Project Sub Ohm Mutation XS is the redesigned ‘mini’ version of the recently released Mutation X V4, boasting the new features found in the Unicig designed Mutation X V4 but compressed into a rebuildable dripping atomiser measuring only 17mm in height.

Mutation XS ReviewThe original Mutation series of RDA’s designed by Unicig/Indulgence has been arguably the most popular series of RDA’s ever released, offering exceptional performance for cloud chasers at a very low price, and recently with the introduction of under coil airflow on the Mutation X V4, great flavour to match as well.

What Can We Expect From The Mutation XS RDA BY Project SUB OHM

The Mutation XS has been designed by Project Sub Ohm in the USA, responsible for some excellent atomisers such as the Silverplay, and hopefully, their Midas touch translates into gold with the Mutation XS!

The Mutation X V4 has taken the market by storm, but does the smaller Project Sub Ohm designed XS version match up to its bigger brother?

Mutation XS RDA Kit Contents

The Mutation XS by Project Sub Ohm is packaged almost identically to the Mutation X V4, in a neat white box, and houses the following contents inside-

  • Project Sub Ohm designed Mutation XS
  • Pre Installed 11mm wide bore competition delrin drip tip
  • Exclusively Designed Signature Edition 11mm White Delrin Shorty Widebore Competition
  • Drip Tip
  • Beveled Heat Reducing Delrin 510 Adaptor Top Cap
  • Silicon Bottom Airflow Sealing Plugs
  • Manual
  • Additional O-Rings, Screws, and Screwdriver

Mutation XS RDA Set Up

First things first I would check your Mutation XS by Project Sub Ohm for machine oil residue. I found quite a fair bit of machine oil present on the deck and underneath the screw heads which required a good clean before I began to build on the deck.

Once clean, you have the same deck arrangement as the Mutation X V4 – that is is a split centre positive post arrangement with two negative posts milled into the deck for improved conductivity.

Juice well isn’t particularly large but the deck is nice and big to build on- just watch that you don’t short your coils on the internal AFC ring when going for some thick coils!Mutation XS Parts

Like the V4 you find generously sized post holes, the Mutation series is all about crazy builds and huge clouds! Unfortunately, the post screws themselves have poor threading, I had a lot of trouble trapping down my coil legs when using 0.5mm and above kanthal, but I eventually got there in the end!

You have three airflow holes on the deck- you want to make sure that your coil is over these for maximum flavour. The adjustable under coil airflow can be found to the side of this- however juice has a real tendency to leak out of these holes.Base of Mutaion XS

You can plug these slots up with the included silicon plugs but this will be at the detriment to flavour. The Mutation XS can be set up in single or dual coil easily as either side of the airflow can be completely blocked off leaving one side still open and adjustable.

I went for 8 wraps of 0.5mm kanthal with a 3mm coil internal diameter and this just about squeezed in under the top cap!

Mutation XS RDA By Project Sub OHM Performance

Most people are going to buy a Mutation series RDA for one reason- clouds. The Mutation series is really at the top of the game when it comes to cloud chasing and the Mutation XS is very much in the same vein.

With that in mind I used a 70VG juice, Punk Grenade by Riot Squad.

You can blow absolutely enormous clouds with the Mutation XS, real competition level stuff if that is your thing, even with the airflow partially closed down the Mutation XS still blows bigger clouds than a lot of rival RDA’s.

Even in single coil, with half the airflow closed, the levels of vapour can only be described as ridiculous!RDA Base of Mutaion XS

With the airflow wide open, the clouds are just insane, the Mutation XS leads the way when in this configuration, it is probably the airiest vape you will ever experience, almost like drawing on air.

Flavour, as per with the Mutation X V4, is vastly improved and the best in the series so far with the addition of the under coil airflow holes.

This now means that air is drawn in and hits the coils underneath vastly improving flavour and meaning that the Mutation series can for once now rival a lot of flavour RDA’s available.Mutation XS Project Sub Ohm RDA

I notice a slight improvement in flavour over the Mutation X V4 with the reduced size but in turn the vape is also warmer too. You can really get the best of both worlds with the Mutation XS!

Pros

  • Incredible cloud production
  • Flavour improved over the V4 with a smaller height
  • Supports single or dual coil builds
  • Massive amount of airflow options
  • Can still slot in plenty of different crazy builds even with the reduced height
  • Cheap genuine RDA

Cons

  • When the bottom airflow is open juice has an annoying tendency to leak out of the airflow holes
  • Iffy build quality with the supplied screws- I had trouble trapping coil legs down using
  • Kanthal over 0.5mm
  • Machine oil residue present under the screws and on the deck
  • As per the Mutation X V4, the juice well is pretty small
  • AFC ring can touch against your coils with larger builds when installing the top cap causing shorts

Final Thoughts

Like the V4, the Mutation XS is flawed. The same issues are here such as juice leaking out of the bottom airflow and slightly questionable build quality, especially with the post holes and screws, but the good does still outweigh the bad.

If you already own the original Mutation X V4 there isn’t really any benefit in purchasing a Mutation XS as it offers pretty much the same, but anyone looking for one of the best cloud chasing experiences out there should look no further than the Mutation XS.

At the price you can pick these up for it represents a real bargain for such an high performing and genuine RDA. It’s definitely one of the market leaders for chasing clouds, a hallmark of the Mutation series, that’s for sure!

The Mutation X Series of RDA’s (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers) should need no introduction. Highly popular with cloud chasing fans, Unicig has now released version 4.0.

The design now allows for air to hit the coils from underneath as well as the typical original style air holes. It incorporates a redesigned top cap, a wide bore drip tip and includes a 510 adapter for standard drip tips.

The Mutation X V4 is available in stainless steel, black, white and copper. The copper one is logo-less and is the one received for review.rda Mutation X V4

The Mutation X V4 features:

  • 22mm diameter so will fit on a variety of mods
  • Variable airflow, external and internal
  • Upgraded diamond airflow holes
  • New bottom airflow holes. Two sets of three different sized holes on opposite sides
  • Wide bore pyramid drip tip, sloped to offer greater comfort
  • Silver plated copper pin
  • Extra cooling adapter
  • Dual negative posts milled into the deck
  • Philips head post screws
  • Insulator. Over 250℃ heat-resistant

Included in the box:

  • 1x Mutation X V4 RDA
  • Wide bore pyramid drip tip
  • Delrin 510 drip tip adapter
  • Transparent cooling adapter
  • Spare O-rings
  • Spare Screws
  • Rubber hole blockers for the bottom air holes
  • Blue screwdriver

So Is The Mutation X V4 Good Looking and Flaw Free?

This depends heavily on the user since its very subjective. Personally I’m not keen and I think its pretty ugly to be honest. The drip tip is definitely nice and anyone who finds conventional chuff caps a bit uncomfortable will certainly prefer the way it fits the mouth better.Mutation X V4 Chuff cap

The copper version does not include a logo and I actually would have preferred it with one. Of course for those that love logo free vaping equipment its another bonus.

In some ways I kind of feel Unicig has gone to far since this RDA seems to incorporate so many features of existing ones on the market. The bottom air holes borrow directly from the WOTOFO Freakshow Mini and designing this to be a cloud chasing and flavour chasing RDA reminds me heavily of others that offer such flexibility.

However the Mutation X V4 is more like a collection of features that were casually thrown at the design rather than being properly planned so it all looks somewhat haphazard in its execution.

More than a few issues:

The machining is reasonable, although I wouldn’t call it great. I had read various user feedback stating how well machined it was and I’m afraid I completely disagree with that, perhaps the stainless steel version is better but the copper one I received for review is far from perfect.

Mutation X V4 Parts

Firstly the screws, which I take issue with. Every gauge of wire I tried ended up being cut by the screws. It didn’t matter which one I used, 28 gauge, 26 gauge, 24 gauge and 24 gauge twisted. Having never actually owned a Mutation X RDA I thought to myself that this is perhaps a common problem so I looked online for solutions.

It turns out that they are apparently designed this way to make it easier for dual coil builds.

So screws that cut the wire is allegedly a feature and not a design flaw then?

Strange since every other RDA I have that supports a dual coil does not cut wire on purpose and I never had any issues building those.

rebuildable dripper atomizer

So with this new found knowledge in mind I reattempted to coil this RDA with my next build, 26 gauge (0.5mm). It is usually my habit to put both coil legs through the post holes then tighten down the screws and then move the screwdriver with some small amount of force to centre the coil correctly.

This is a bad idea with this RDA and will cut the wire.

What you want to do is get the build right and completely centred first, then tighten the screws down very gently, then adjust a little before tightening further, don’t overdo it.

My next issue with this RDA is the transparent cooling adapter. You are supposed to be able to press fit the wide bore drip tip and top cap mount into it. My issue is it doesn’t fit properly and after applying too much force it became wedged in there.

After about fifteen minutes of messing with it I did eventually get it out but by that point it had shredded an O-ring, thankfully you get spares but I am far from impressed with that.

I don’t even like how it looks when its fitted to be honest and I question why Unicig removed the old heat sink fins to create a pointless gimmick that lets you see the vapour in the chamber.

I’m sure it does help to cool the RDA but by attaching it you are actually increasing the size of the chamber which can typically lead to some loss in flavour and above all it looks really tacky.Deck Mutation X V4 RDA

Now for the well capacity which is noticeably smaller, anyone who just likes to fill up and go will run into problems if they have the bottom air holes open. You need to be very careful and literally paint your wicks with juice, if you just fill up the well it will leak on you.

Thankfully you can plug up the bottom airflow slot with one of the included rubber stoppers but since airflow that hits a coil from underneath tends to give better flavour I don’t see many flavour chasers wanting to block off the holes.

On to the next problem. The bladed cap that blocks the main eighteen airflow holes has extremely sharp edges and if you could actually cut your fingers if you weren’t careful or handled it roughly.

Funnily enough Cigreen who made the X V2 which is based on the Mutation X V2 actually found the solution of rounding off the metal blades, if only Unicig could have had the same foresight. At least airflow adjustment is without issue and by rotating the bladed cap you can open up or close down the air holes easily.

The Mutation X V4 Is Not Without Issues But The Vape Is Excellent:

In terms of flavour the Mutation X V4 is excellent. Its so much better than many cloud chasing RDA’s and it is comparable to some of the specific flavour chasing drippers out there. No doubt due to the new underneath airflow and it works very well.Mutation X V4 on SMOK Mod
I tried a variety of juice with this RDA, T-Juice Red Astaire, El Diablo Lime Cream Cupcake, Manabush Waxahachie.

Every juice tasted exactly how it should and the vape which was on a 0.5 ohm dual coil was flavoursome and warm with the most immense clouds quickly fogging up my room after one or two draws.

For more juice options check out this guide our top rate e-liquid here.

The clouds really are massive, almost bordering on the obscene when the airflow is fully opened up.

With a single coil its very good, with a dual it is truly insane. If you were to use this in public you would quickly be a nuisance.

Such high vapour production of course comes at a price, with the well being small you will find yourself regularly re-dripping but for those people who enjoy their clouds when vaping they will be in love with this.

Is the Mutation X V4 worth it?

Yes it is. Given the amount of air flow options you have not to mention the spares and other extras such as the 510 adapter and the horrible looking cooling adapter you are getting value for money.

As I said there are some machining issues but most of them are things you can live with or require you to change your regular habits and I’ve seen RDA’s in a far worse state than this one.

What ultimately redeems it for me is the fantastic vape and given that it works well for flavour as well as cloud chasers it’s certainly worth you considering it. I think £25.99 is a very attractive price for most people.

Final Thoughts On The Mutant X V4

A RDA that has more than its fair share of faults and quirks. I also don’t consider it a looker but some people may like its style of design. Its an amalgamation of many RDA’s already out there but then so are many others.

As stated I really don’t like the Philips screws and would personally replace them with grub screws. In terms of the fact that this is a reasonably cheap and authentic product and given that despite less than perfect machining it does everything its supposed to and provides great flavour with tons of clouds.

If like me you find issues with it then do give it chance because while the problems are annoying its not worth missing out on such a great vape.

Pros:

  • Excellent flavour
  • Massive variety of airflow options suiting many types of builds
  • Insane cloud production
  • Cheap for an authentic RDA
  • Decent enough spares

Cons:

  • Questionable machining in places
  • Small juice well
  • Leaks if you don’t use the rubber stoppers or not pay attention to painting your wicks with juice
  • Top cap did not fit cooling adapter on review item
  • Awful screws
