The Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO kit is the latest from a brand that various reviewers at Ecigclick have had mixed results with in the past.

Based in Shenzhen, Hugo Vapor has released 10 different devices, starting with the box mod style and have now moved into the pod and AIO world.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO review

Some of their mods are remarkably interesting looking, such as the Ranger GT234 which has a humongous screen and looks like a Lego box. The Orditer GT230 has a high-end look to it and then the BF Squeezer which is a squonker looks likes it could be a 3D printer device.

It is worth going and having a look on their website as some of the mods are unique in appearance.

What Can We Expect From the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO Kit?

The Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO kit is a cylindrical palm sized set-up that has variable wattage and is extremely lightweight, with a simple easy to use menu system for functionality.

The mod offers a 5W to 40W range which is more than enough for the coils that can be used on this device.

With the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO 1500mAh internal battery, it’s more than enough to run your device all day without having to run into a dead battery before your day is over.

Inside the Box

  • Boxer AIO 40W Device
  • Boxer AIO Pod 3.5ml (BX Mesh 0.4ohm coil pre-installed)
  • Extra BX Mesh 0.4ohm coil

Build & Design Quality

Overall Look & Feel

I am normally upbeat about looking at the build and design of vape products but I am really disappointed at the way the Boxer AIO Kit has been designed.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO Battery/Mod

The metal used feels cheap and flimsy.

I have a strong suspicion it’s to try and keep the product as lightweight as possible, but I feel they have skimped on the quality and gone with cheap and lightweight.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO

Hugo Vapor has decided to wrap the devices in stickers with different designs.

It feels unbelievably cheap as my sticker has already started to peel off the side. The stickers do not line up and has a hard stop so there is no continuity in the flow of the artwork.

However, my biggest gripe with the design of this product is the actual artwork that Hugo Vapor has decided to go for, especially the one I received. It looks like it has been made for a teenager as its got cartoon skulls, converse, headphones, spray cans etc all over it.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO design

Currently in the USA as well as other countries, there are talks about vapour products being advertised for minors and this artwork fits the bill. I feel it was an extremely poor judgement call by Hugo Vapor to choose such images when the vape industry is fighting for the rights of vapers.

I have looked at the other designs available for the Boxer AIO Kit and there are 5 available. I would say only 2 out of the 5 are not inadvertently aimed at teenagers.

This has saddened me, and I feel that if Hugo Vapor would even just do different colour combinations or plain colours it would have been a better choice than what they have gone for.

hugo_vapor_boxer_aio_40w_pod_mod_kit_colors

The buttons on the mod are ‘clicky‘ which is a plus in my book, but they are made from extremely cheap plastic. If you do not hit the button smack bang in the middle it will not fire.

I have lost count of the number of times I thought my battery had died and then realised it was just the button not firing. I feel this is another design flaw that Hugo Vapor has made in the best intention of either cutting costs or weight in my opinion.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO Button Functions

  • 5 Clicks for on and off.
  • Hold power button and + to rotate the screen.
  • Hold power button and – to lock the device.

The mod is extremely simple to use, which is great, as there is no need to worry about any other function.

When you insert the pod it sets to 25W which is the recommended wattage, so you don’t accidentally fire on 40W, this is a good safety feature for your coils.

The pod sports a USB Type-C charging port and charges in 90 minutes which is another plus for the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO. Sadly, it’s on the bottom of the battery so you will have to lie the mod down to charge it.

Mine fell off the table and dented the body of the mod which was not surprising due to the thin metal used in the production of the device.

I am a very clumsy person and I do drop my devices, but none of my other mods have come close to receiving the damage the mod received from dropping not even a foot off the table.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO – Airflow

The airflow slots are poorly placed, one just above the fire button with the second on the opposite side of the battery. As the pod is recessed into the mod therefore the airflow ports are located where they are.

When you hold the device your index fingers will instantly find the most comfortable position to sit which happens to be right over the rear airflow slot.

To reduce or open the airflow all you need to do is twist the drip tip and then whole pod turns. The bottom of the pod has slots which will then cut off or open it up.

There is no real difference in either of the airflow settings, it’s either open or closed. There is also no restriction when closing the airflow. Hugo Vapor should have made it a fixed airflow or spent more time designing a functioning airflow system.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO – the Pod

The pod used in the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO kit is basic when it comes to pod systems.

It uses a magnetic system to secure the pod to the connector within the mod.

pod connection

The only real difference is that the magnets on the mod are shaped like a ring that goes all the way around the circumference of the pod. This is so you can adjust your airflow with the pod still making full connection with the mod.

This, I feel, is a great little feature.

It is made out of a hardened plastic that is frosted enough that you can easily see your liquid level when the pod is removed from the mod. When the pod is within the mod, it is impossible to see your level.

I feel Hugo Vapor should have at least put a viewing window along the side of the mod, dry hits are a real risk with this device. I have had to throw a coil away due to not being able to see my e-liquid level.

I was driving from work and vaping away when I got hit with a burnt cotton taste. As the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO uses pre-made coil heads, it cannot be re-wicked and had to go straight into the bin.

The pod itself feels sturdy and well made. The rubber gasket on the side is easy to open and close, just be careful not to pull the whole rubber gasket off as it is ridiculously hard to reattach but not impossible.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO – Leaking?

The pod I received in the package does like to leak rather frequently.

Every time I remove the pod to refill there is always a film of liquid around the pod walls as well as a small puddle of liquid at the base around the connector.

pod leaking

I know this is not condensation, which is inevitable when heating a liquid, this is actual leakage.

It can also be found around the airflow slots within the coil head as well. This can be catastrophic if the liquid seeps into the chip within the mod as it will stop the mod working all together.

The picture is after only having a filled pod within the pod for approximately 10 minutes, as you can see the base has already started to rust as well as there being a fair amount of liquid.

On a personal note, there is nothing worse than having liquid on your hands as it is a nightmare to get off if you are not next to a sink with soap and running water.

When you must refill and pull the pod out, your hands get covered in e-liquid when trying to remove the gasket, this then transfers onto your liquid bottle when filling.

It becomes a mess and everything needs to be cleaned off. This is not good for someone outside who needs to refill and then has to find a bathroom to clean the device, e-liquid bottle and their hands.

How to Fill the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO Pods

The pod filling system is extremely simple and easy to use, I have included a Quick Guide on how to fill your pod.

  • Take your pod out of your battery.
  • Turn pod so the rubber gasket on the side is facing straight up.
  • Use your nail to pull the side closest to the mouthpiece end to expose the fill hole.
  • Fill the pod using your e-liquid bottle whilst tipping the mouthpiece towards the floor. This will ensure your pod is completely full.
  • Reattach the rubber gasket, making sure the rubber is flush with the pod.
  • Place the pod back onto the battery and wait 5 minutes for the e-liquid to saturate the cotton.

How Does the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO Kit perform?

Unlike other pod systems and AIO I have received, this kit only came with one type of coil head so I cannot compare it to any other Hugo Vapor manufactured coils.

This portion of the review will be shorter than previous reviews.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO – Pod Performance

Firstly, I am just going to outline the types of e-liquid that I use to test the performance of these coils. I only use e-liquids that I have been vaping on for many years so I have an excellent working knowledge of the notes I should be getting from the e-liquid.

I used Limey Slush by Joe’s Juice which is a 70VG/30PG at blend for both pods, this gives me a great base to work out the flavour differences.

Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO – BX 0.4ohh Mesh Coil

The coil uses the plug and play system with no threads which makes it super easy to install within the pod. This plug and play system has been adopted by lots of companies including Hugo Vapor.

No issues were found priming and installing the coils, this is then when the major issue came to light.

Most coils take an average of 5 to 10 minutes to fully saturate and for the coil to be broken in enough in order to get the full flavour of the liquid you have chosen to use.

Muted Flavour…

Within the first two hours I was still getting extremely muted flavours and a cotton taste on the inhale. I decided to just leave it until the evening, so a good five hours to be 100% sure the liquid had completely saturated the coil head.

When returning to the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO, thankfully it was vapeable. I would say I got roughly 60% of the overall flavour from my liquid. I have continued to use the device for well over a week and it has not improved in flavour.

The vapor production from this coil head is low. I also have an issue with getting a bit of spit back from the pod which is not the best.

If I am completely honest, I am struggling to pick up the device and I am forcing myself to choose the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO when trying to choose what device I want to use at that particular time.

Battery/Mod

The mod being a 1500mAh battery means that battery life is not an issue.

It holds it’s charge well even if you are a low user and maybe only use it a couple of times in the morning and then not again till the afternoon, you will not lose a lot of battery life if you do not turn it off.

pod kit review

The screen has no issues whatsoever it’s clean, simple and extremely accurate. I have no problems being able to see the screen in direct sunlight or the dead of night.

I feel the corners cut when designing this pod system have had a detrimental effect when it comes to the performance of both the mod and pod.

My Test for Usability Appeal

I have a test process to see if I genuinely like a device.

I have 6 set ups on my coil building table, when I want to vape I go to my table and pick which one I want to use at that time.

In my previous reviews, I loved the devices I was reviewing and would be using them more than my every day set up. The Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO has never been picked out of the group.

I have had to make myself pick it up at least twice a day to give it a fair shot.

Pros

  • USB Type-C

Cons

  • The Design
  • Build quality
  • Coils provided
  • Leaking pod
  • Fire button

Final Review Verdict

Can I first start by saying when deciding to start reviewing vape products I made it my motto to always be honest and aboveboard with my thoughts and feelings about a product.

I genuinely thought the Boxer AIO Kit had a lot of potential to be great. I can see what they were trying to achieve when designing it.

Hugo Vapor was trying to make a cheap affordable AIO kit with basic functions so anyone transitioning from cigarettes to vaping could get their hands on and be able to master it quickly.

I feel that if Hugo Vapor had made the coils cross-compatible like other companies have then that could have opened a bigger market for them.

That Art Work Though…

If they wanted to produce a cheap product, they should have gone down the disposable route using the same build materials.

I can honestly say had they just stuck to making a good quality and a versatile AIO kit my review would have been completely different.

The issue that keeps playing on my mind is the artwork that Hugo Vapor have decided to go for.

I feel that the poor judgment call they have made makes me feel that they are not concerned about the issues that are plaguing the vaping world, and which have been going on for a number of years.

Have you used the Hugo Vapor Boxer AIO?

The Hugo Vapor Kylin 30W Pod is a new pod mod design – and nothing to do with the Vandy Vape Kylin range of tanks! On some vendor sites I am seeing this has been renamed to the “Planet” perhaps as a consequence of the confusion?

Your e-liquid lives in the “pod” which is basically a removable and disposable tank. You can refill this with your own e-liquid however you cannot replace the coil. This is a bit wasteful but I can see the benefit to those who don’t want messy hands or find changing coils too fiddly!kylin pod options

There are two types of pod and both are included in the kit:

  • Kylin Mesh Pod – 0.6ohm coil – maximum power = 30W
  • Kylin Regular Pod – 1.2ohm coil – maximum power = 15W.

Yes this is bright. I am normally a huge fan of bright mods – for instance I love the VZone Graffiti and the Joyetech Espion Infinite. However I do have to say the Rader Mage is too “out-there” even for me!rader mage splatter

This is made from the same NylonFibre material as the Squeezer and the URUS which is apparently super lightweight.

The Rader Mage will need 2×18650 batteries which are not included and will output up to 218W. The chip is apparently a new GT218 chipset which can fire down to 0.06ohm coil resistance.rader mage graffiti

You get a nice 0.96in square OLED screen – I am not sure if this is colour though – not seeing any images of the mod switched on.

The Hugo Vapor Squeezer mod is from a relatively young vaping brand with less than 10 products on the market. Still, most vapers will be familiar with the brand from countless Instagram shots of their brightly coloured, lightweight and hugely popular Boxer range of mods.

hugo squeezer main

I own 2 Boxer Raders, personally and, based on those alone, I’m afraid my experience with the brand hasn’t been what I’d call successful. Like the Boxer, the product for review today is constructed of an ‘innovative’ nylon-fibre composite shell that’s both heat resistant to the max and insanely lightweight.

This time though, it’s a mechanical squonker, making it even more convenient! And not just any mech squonker but a super affordable one.

Now, I love a mechanical squonker for convenience and simplicity and so, in spite of past review fails I’ve had with the brand, I was keen to get my hands on the BF Squeezer…especially since I loved the look and feel of my Boxers, even if neither of them worked.

What’s In The Box

  • 1 x Hugo Vapor Squeezer Mod
  • 1 x nylon fibre 18650 adaptor
  • 2 x 10ml silicon BF bottles
  • 1 x silicon decanting bottle

Features

  • 10 ml BF bottle
  • Nylon-fibre shell
  • Dimensions: 25 x 50 x 78mm
  • 510 threaded
  • Mechanical only
  • Super soft silicon bottle
  • Copper connects
  • Lockable fire button
  • Comes in Camo, blue, red, black, yellow, green, purple and morehugo squeezer contents

Build Quality & Design

I first admire the array of bright and shiny Hugo Vaper squeezer mod images on the packaging, with black fire buttons they look smoother and shinier than the nylon fibre I’m used to…only, on opening the box I am greeted by a colour finish (mine is blue), a fire button and a surface texture that looks nothing like what’s pictured on the packaging: hmmm, oh well.

With that out the way, I lift out the Squeezer mod, with it’s dark grey silicon BF bottle already, clearly, installed and a bunch of extra accessories in the box.

Damn…this thing IS light! Insanely light, it ways only 93g.hugo squeezer 510

The chassis is not painted, since the nylon-fibre itself is dyed. The texture isn’t too rough to the touch but it has a blasted, fibrous feel. The good thing about the finish is the way it maintains grip, even when covered in e-liquid…but we’re not there yet.Hugo Vapor Squeezer grip

The shape is rectangular, with the side opposite the fire button being round edged and slightly widened to fit the contours of your palm perfectly, it is very ergonomic.

The fire button, positioned in the upper half of the narrow vertical side (and not black, as pictured) nearest the 510 connection, sits within an oblong indentation and is itself oblong and thumb tip sized.hugo squeezer fire

The fire button has a wonderful, springy feel, not a click but a spring, which I quite like and which is normal on a mechanical device. What’s more, it locks, when switched up it is impossible to depress, switched down… fire away.hugo squeezer base

On the base, directly below the squonk bottle, is a round black brand. Above the squonk bottle, atop the mod, is a deep 510 threaded BF connection, with a lot of give to it. It’s set within a Boxer-esque, SS tank seating with a sort of target practice design.

To change bottles, refill or swap batteries, you must pull off the round edged side of the mod. The entire front panel (with the squonk hole in it) will come away, as will half the back.

It slides out and in on grooves and there are NO magnets, it slides out very easily and this worries me, a lot.

Once the cover, (which also has a massive SQUEEZER brand deeply impressed across it, on the same side as the ample squonk hole) comes off, the mechanical workings, squonk bottle and battery chamber are revealed in all their ‘glory.’

The chamber holds a 20700 cell or, alternatively, you can use an 18650, with the included adaptor.

The silicon bottle has a great connecting tube which sits tight in the cap and doesn’t pull out the tube when you remove the bottle, even so, Hugo Vapor has provided an innovative filling method amongst the accessories but I will get to that.

How Does The Hugo Vapor Squeezer Mod Perform?

After getting my thick wrapped 18650 seriously stuck in the hard nylon-fibre adaptor (I would have preferred silicon, for sure) , I decided on a 20700 instead. First though, I popped in the adaptor fitted 18650 and closed the mod.hugo Vapor squeezer hand

The battery rattles around inside the mod.

I pop in a 20700 to see if that solves the issue, it doesn’t.

The entire battery rattles and slides around as you move the mod, slowly scratching the battery connects and copper plates and just being plain irritating.

Not to mention the fact that after 3 days of use, the device simply stopped working.

In spite of the rattly battery, for 3 days… the Squeezer hits like a MONSTER, I hooked it up with the Coilart Dpro with a 0.15 ohm, dual fused Clapton build and for 3 days I simply ignored the rattle, so blessed was I with insane clouds and just really incredible vaping.hugo Vapor squeezer internals

I did actually drop the device twice, holding on to the battery cover side. On two occasions, the rest of the mod slipped out of my hand…leaving me standing there with the battery cover in my hand and the words WHAT THE F*** escaping me with quality, not at all cool, HV.

I imagine that those intense falls (all due to cheap-ass manufacture, in my humble opinion) are the reason why my Squeezer mod now fires on about every 15th attempt and no more.

Look, I understand that you want to make the mod cheaply so that you can sell it at an affordable price but I feel like this is just negligent. I can’t picture myself putting a product like this on the shelves, great as it vapes. Great as it vaped, vapes every 15 attempts, whatever.

The sad thing is how easy and probably cheap it would have been to remedy this with a little barrier between the battery and the bottle that would have prevented sliding and as little as a single magnet or mechanical lock to prevent the weight of the battery causing a drop when you don’t hold the mod just so.

Now on to filling, given that the included silicon bottle is so soft that if you so much as look at it wrong it will splurt juice at you, it’s a good thing that this decanting system, as seen in the ‘How To Fill’ section, has been included.

However, this decanting system requires that the smaller bottle be absolutely empty, otherwise, when you squeeze it to release air before decanting via your BF connection…well, it will simply SPLURT juice all over you. I have yet to refill this device without ending up even more irritated and in need of a wet wipe.

The worst is when your squeeze bottle is full of juice and you want to try to take it out and dry it but it’s full. Like I said, you just have to look at it for the juice to get ALL over the place. I’ve used squonkers and sure, silicon bottles can be messy…but nothing quite like this.

The device always seemed to be juicy, as was I when using it.

How To Fill

  • Fill your 30 ml decanting squeezer
  • Unscrew your RDA
  • Squeeze all air out of your installed 10ml squeezer bottle
  • Screw the 30ml bottle into the RDA connection
  • Squeeze the big bottle until the little one is full
    Replace your RDAhugo squeezer fill

Battery Life

Battery life was altogether excellent, I used iJoy 20700s and enjoyed a 0.15 Ohm vape for at least 8-9 hours, 2-3 hours less with an 18650.

Pros

  • Light weight and ergonomic shell
  • Great battery life
  • Hit like a beast when working
  • Lockable fire with good spring

Cons

  • No magnets, caused me to drop half of the device, twice
  • Battery is loose inside, falls around and scratches against contacts
  • Bottles are way too soft and fill method is awkward
  • Device stopped working after 3 days

Final Review Verdict

I’m a little confused about the fact that there are so many excellent reviews of the Hogo Vapor Squeezer online.

I realize I’ve put this review in very late (long story) but goodness me, at least now there’s a different (but honest) perspective out there for those of you who are thinking that this looks like the perfect device due to all the shining reviews.

In my opinion, it is NOT. Maybe I would be less inclined to notice these things (or have them drive me bananas) if my previous mods from the brand hadn’t given me trouble, I dunno.

I’d love to have a working device that vapes as good as this one did, with its battery life…however, I don’t feel that enough attention has been paid to battery safety here and I feel that the device was cheaply and almost negligently made. That’s why I didn’t bother asking for a replacement.

I see a device that feels wrong and may well end up being dropped or just dead as a doornail. I’m sorry Hugo Vapor and Hugo Vapor fans but this one is another epic fail for me. I understand that my dropping the device probably loosened up some invisible something that it shouldn’t have but the fact is, I dropped it because it’s so poorly made!

And..

Would I buy the Hugo Vapor Squeezer if I lost/broke the device? Hell no.

The Hugo Vapor Urus mod is by the Shenzhen based company focusing on all new vaping innovation. After reading the wonderfully worded article for the Boxer Rader by our own Laura Ann I was a little sceptical and worried as to what the Urus 100w box mod would be like.

The product itself was not listed on their website at the time of writing this, which drew my scepticism further as I like to do my research on a company and its products before putting pen to paper!

For those that don’t know or are interested Urus is a large recently extinct long-horned European wild ox; considered to be one of the ancestors of domestic cattle.

Please join us as we take a detailed look at the Urus 100w and put it through its paces and see if this can sit proudly amongst the best vape mods.

Design and Build Quality

The packaging this mod comes in is quite basic with no extras apart from the battery adaptor which comes inside the mod and a USB cable.

The mod is made of nylon fibre; the same type of material used for 3d printers but has been moulded into shape. The box itself is clean with a good form factor making it very comfortable to hold.hugo vaper urus

The 510 connection point is made of stainless steel with cut outs for those that use an atty that utilize the 510 airflow system, the threading is stainless steel and functions well, the 510 gold plated connection pin is spring loaded and well able to fit those tanks and RDA’s with longer threads.hugo vaper urus cp

The body has two doors each held in place by 5 small magnets.hugo vaper urus doors 2 One door has URUS cut out of it for battery venting, the other door has a bovine type design along with URUS in a circle, these doors so I understand are replaceable “purchased separately from the kit”.hugo vaper urus doors

Inside the mod you have what looks like gold plated battery connection points. Under the second door you have a space cut so you can push your battery out, the board wires etc have been covered with a plastic box for safety.hugo vaper urus back door

The leading edge of the mod has a fire button and 2 adjustment buttons that are made of a plastic material; they all have a nice click to them when pushed. hugo vaper urus frontThe OLED screen is clear and bright if a little on the small side for my eyes lol, the screen measures 0.91 inch and displays all relevant information. hugo vaper urus screen closeThe USB charge point is under the screen and adjustment buttons; I am unable to confirm if this USB point will double as an upgrade point as I cannot see any information about this in the manual or on the Hugo Vapor website.hugo vaper urus face

On the base of the mod you will see the normal none recycle bin and CE mark as well as 3 tiny holes for board cooling.hugo vaper urus marks

I would say that the design and quality of the Hugo Vapor Urus vape mod is good and I am impressed by the light weight of the device and to the fact that they have designed it so the Urus will take 3 different types of batteries.hugo vaper urus screen

A basic guide to setup and use

Prep your RDA/RTA or Tank as normal and screw onto the 510 connection.

Place a battery of your choice into the mod with the + down, the mod will except 21700/20700 or 18650 batteries, the latter with the supplied battery adaptor.hugo vaper urus batt types

  • Wattage lock, hold both adjustment buttons! To unlock repeat
  • Screen display/Stealth/Rotation, fire button and up together choose option
  • Resistance lock, fire button and down together, To unlock repeat

How Does The Hugo Vapor Urus 100w Perform?

For this review I am using the Innokin Eurus RDA with the Urus mod, basically because it tickled my funny bone lol.

I have dual 0.17ohm Kanthal Flapton coils in the Eurus and am using e-liquid by Juice Junkies called Pie man (sweet apple pie.. yummy).

The mod will fire coils between resistances of 0.06-3.0ohms, please keep in mind that the lower your coil resistance and high wattage the less time you will have with your battery!

60w

0.17ohms with my 21700 30amp battery lasted me 2.5 hours

100w

0.17ohms the same battery type lasted me 1.5 hours

I didn’t experience any misfiring with either of these settings, and the mod was able to keep up with my chain vaping.

Temperature control

Changing my coils for dual SS316L 0.1ohm coils and I loaded up with the same liquid and locking the ohms.

480F and 40w

I was able to experience a descent vape with a good amount of vapour, my 21700 battery this time lasted me nearly 4 hours.

No matter how I played with the settings in TC I couldn’t find a way to increase/decrease the wattage from 40w! I checked the manual and this is not mentioned at all, so I can only presume you can’t change the wattage under TC – if I ever find a way to change the wattage I will update this review.

Batteries

Purely from my stand point, it is great to have a mod that will utilize 3 types of battery! While most of the time I have been using 21700’s it is great to have the option there to use 20700’s or 18650’s should I wish.

Dry burning testhugo vaper urus wick burn

While working in TC I like to see if a mod will burn the cotton I do this with one coil (SS316L) and dry cotton installed, pressing the fire button up to 5 times for around a second each press – while the cotton in this case did show some light yellow banding the cotton did not burn.

Chain Vaping in both Power and TC

The mod holds up well to chain vaping in either mode with no misfires, however in power mode I did notice a little heat transfer from my RDA! Chain vaping is not a normal circumstance so I am not worried by a little heat transfer.

Vaping in really cold temperatures

I don’t often get the chance to test a mod in adverse weather conditions but as we here in the UK have had to deal with the Beast from the East I took full advantage to test the Urus 100w in the cold!

I walked around my home town for nearly 3 hours and had the Urus in my hand the whole time apart from some understandable battery drop I was able to vape the whole time I was out. I left the Urus in a friend’s car over night, turned off but with a fully charged battery in it, I turned the mod on the next morning and found the battery was depleted by half!

I was not surprised as the temperature that night was below -5 (that’s really cold for my part of the UK) despite the mod and battery being very cold did function fine.

*I do not recommended using batteries in extreme cold temperatures to do so can damage the cell and lead to venting if the temperature of the battery is raised to quickly.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Good design
  • Good size fits well in hand
  • 3 different sizes of battery with adaptor
  • 316L works well with TC
  • Fair battery life
  • Good price about 28 GBP

Cons

  • Manual not comprehensive enough
  • No way to change wattage under TC
  • Unsure if firmware is up-gradable

Final Review Verdict

Well for all my scepticism regarding the Hugo Vapor Urus box mod, I really enjoyed using the device!

It’s light weight and comfortable in the hand, being the mod only holds 1 battery at a time and as I normally vape around 60w I did find I was swapping batteries out often. Overall the performance of the mod was good, I was slightly disappointed not being able to change wattage in TC.

I would like to see Hugo Vapor increase the wattage to 200w and make the Urus a dual battery unit.

Finally… Would I buy the Hugo Vapor Urus 100w mod should I loose or damage it? That would be a big YES from me!

Special Note:

Please be advised that shortly after writing the following review, the product in question (which was my second device) also exhibited overheating symptoms, lost it’s screen display and was no longer safe to use.

I’ve yet to receive a third replacement and, as it stands, this review really just covers my thoughts on a ‘working’ product…before the incident. Only time will tell if I can lay hands on one that’s willing to keep working for longer than a week.

For now, I’d steer clear if I were you.

The Boxer Rader 211W TC Mod By Hugo Vapor

Usually, before I write a review, I like to make sure that I’ve visited the brand’s product page but on scanning their site I found that Hugo Vaper offers no product page for this mod and I’m not sure why.

Why is their latest box mod not on their site? Rather odd. Well, my experience with this cool, bright, super lightweight mod has been colorful to say the least.

The brand, responsible for a string of very chunky looking, very simplistic and very popular mods (including the Boxer TC range and the Hugo 133) seems to have had some problems with this release, if forums and customer feedback on the new mod are to be believed. I’m inclined to believe it, since he first example of this product which arrived in my mail for review was an epic fail.

I enjoyed the mod for about 24 hours before the screen heated up and packed in.

After that, the mod would switch on without the screen following suit and I decided not to chance it, since the screen still felt very hot to the touch. This kind of overheating can cause batteries to vent and I’ve read numerous tales of batteries suddenly loosing charge so watch out! These things happen and, sadly, sometimes a bad batch gets sent out.

My research revealed a string of similar reports by customers who’d purchased the same mod so I can say without a doubt that the release of the Boxer Rader 211W TC mod by Hugo Vapor was not without incident.

Nevertheless, I got my second chance after a week and this particular mod has given no problems…in other words, I’m ready to give my review and yes, apologies for starting off on a negative because there are actually a lot of pros to this mod.

Build Quality & Design

Well, the cylindrical cardboard box, in bright red, with the rugged white branding, is a welcome splash of difference among a sea of box shaped vape packages. However, the words ‘Mod Killer, Material Killer’ underneath the logo made me wonder what I was missing. I mean, it’s cool but it doesn’t necessarily make sense.

Before even opening the package, I grew concerned that the distributer had actually left the gear out of the box, since there was almost no weight to the thing.

So I was definitely surprised to find my bright yellow, silicon sleeve covered, Boxer designed, Hugo Manufactured Rader mod safe and sound inside the box. It also comes in blue, red, black and I’m not sure what other colors, as product information is hard to come by, I’ve definitely seen a camo version too.

So, the body of his thing is actually 3D printed in a special, flame retardant PC and Nylon mix that provides a unique, slightly rough finish that looks (not feels) like fibre glass. You’ll only discover this once you remove the silicon sleeve… which does such a good job of covering the battery vents that I’m concerned about using it, given the fact that my first sample of the mod overheated. The sleeve can be tricky to remove, my tip is: use force.

The Rader is shaped exactly like the Boxer V2, only smaller and lighter… it also looks a lot like the Asmodus Minikin V2. That is, dead simple, with a magnetic battery door on the one side with cutouts along the edges that make 2 big battery vents. The silicon sleeve covering makes it look even more minimalist but going without the sleeve somehow makes the mod feel naked, which likely has something to do with those very exposing battery vents.

One side bares a massive Rader sign that was obviously programmed into the print, as were all embellishments.

Ergonomics are incredible and the base shape and size means that just about any sub-ohm tank, dripper or RDTA will look top dollar on this mod.

The 510 connection is surrounded by a target practice design and while I’ve found most of my tanks sit flush and look good on this mod, fitting can be a little scratchy. To be true, I’ve read multiple reports of this 510 housing completely separating from the mod when users tried to unscrew a tight atty but I’ve not experienced this issue.

I’m thinking that’s got something to do with the rough Nylon case material not being able to form a really tight, clean bond….Let’s just say this mod has potential issues but until or unless they occur, it’s a sweet piece of gear, hmmm.

The narrower side of the mod features a big, round Fire button with a power symbol emblazoned (printed, actually) on it. Below that there’s a small rectangular screen and bellow that, conjoined adjustment buttons. Under that is your USB port for charging and firmware upgrades.

Accessories

The silicon sleeve is a great accessory that really finishes off the look and protects the mod, I just wish that the battery vents had been left exposed.

Also, the USB cable is a very snazzy one, silver with a woven cord covering…

How Does The Boxer Rader 211W Perform?

Using such a light mod is quite strange, you hardly know that it’s in your hand…thank goodness mine is BRIGHT yellow. Now, as far as preheat functions go, you can’t customize your preheat setting, it’s a preset preheat that just gets toggled on and off. That said, it seems to do the trick of shortening an already very good ramp time.Hugo Vapor Boxer Mod Screen

Ramp time is excellent from this Dual Core GT211 chip and while resistance readings and TC seem to be very accurate, some things are a little strange. I found it odd that when I first fitted an atomizer on the mod and it asked if it was a new coil, the device proceeded to set itself to a full 211 wattage.

This seems to happen sometimes and sometimes not, so there are inconsistencies, it would seem. Indeed, there’s a tendency to set wattage far to high for the atomizers concerned so beware.

I can’t say that I’m feeling the best power I’ve felt from a dual 18650 mod, let’s say it feels about 10W below but preheat takes care of that feeling. I did find that it operated best at lower wattages, under 100W so it work’s great with a mini sub ohm tank like the WOTOFO Flow, which seemed to purr on it rather more than usual.

That said, controls are very easy to navigate, even though the manual is useless and there’s absolutely no info online. The main thing is the vape and I find it to be a smooth hitting little mod with a quick fire and a wattage that seems true, for all intents and purposes.

Also, when I’m firing at high wattages and I feel my tank heating up, the mod stays cool as can be…the nylon body really is heat resistant and it’s noticeable. That is…when you don’t have one of the faulty ones, of which there seem to be a few.

Besides that, it looks awesome and its by far the lightest dual 18650 mod around, which may prove very convenient…although, it has a tendency to topple over when the coffee table gets busy.

While I could probably get used to the hand feel and really love the bright and clean aesthetic (and it seems to stay very clean looking too), performance, I’m afraid, is nothing to write home about.

How To Operate the Menu System

It’s a five click power on/off and then three fires to access modes, you cycle through your modes and adjust settings with the + and – buttons.

How To Replace The batteries

Remove the silicon sleeve and the magnetic battery door. Follow the indicators to insert your batteries the right way around.

Battery Life

Battery life is excellent, I’m getting a full day’s high (100w) wattage vape on one charge, about 8 hours.

What I Liked

I like the extended battery life, fast ramp time, ultra light weight and extreme ergonomics of this mod. I also find the big, clicky and responsive fire button to be quite a pleasure. I also like the inclusion of a bypass or mechanical mode, which allows you to vape unregulated at your batteries’ actual voltage.

What I Dislike

The preheat and TC functions are very basic but then I’m not very big on those functions usually…also, I find new atomizer settings to be a little erratic.

It’s a pity that so many users have reported faults, caused by wiring issues mostly. While I had a terrible time with my first sample, the second one is a really fun, rather effective little mod, that, while it won’t be my go to power mod, will definitely draw me in for other reasons.

Final Review Verdict

I must say that, while I’ve been holding my breath this entire review, with my finger always on the screen to feel whether it’s getting hot…my replacement Boxer Rader 211W has been a smooth operator.

In fact, not only has it not overheated, it operates cooler than most of the mods on my shelf, due to that very heat resistant casing.

I, for one, am not sold on the idea of a super light weight mod…which to me just feels cheap. People differ though and a feather light mod may be just what you’ve been looking for. It does what it’s supposed to and while this chipset might not be all that as far as customizations go, at least it offers a great ramp time!

And..

Would I buy this if I lost/broke the device? Possibly, yes…not 100% though.

Pros

  • Great looks and ergonomics, accommodates a large range of tanks
  • Heat resistant, lightweight body
  • Fast ramp
  • Nice responsive, clicky buttons

Cons

  • Far too many fault reports for my liking
  • Erratic wattage adjustment
  • Very basic functions
  • Light weight gives it a tendency to topple over
  • Wattage only seems 100% true when preheat is on
