Time for a new mod on the scene – this is the Ehpro Armor COD Mod.
arrmor cod poster

Ehpro have been busy lately and recent releases include the Raptor Tank, Cold Steel 100 mod and Kelpie RDA.

More Details On the Ehpro Armor COD Mod…

This is the second mod from Ehpro featuring the Armor name. The original Armor mod was a similar idea being a semi regulated mod which resembles a mech mod.

We tell you the differences in our Guide to Mech Vs Regulated Mods.
armor cod fb image

So again for the COD version the styling resembles a classic tube style mechanical mod with a stainless steel body.

However this is regulated – well “semi-regulated” – so there are some safety features to help prevent mishaps. But even so it is worth making sure to select the correct battery so as to not over stress it.armor cod safety

Helpfully Ehpro have given a guide to help choose the correct battery current rating to keep you safe.

armor cod resistances

Also the minimum resistance allowed by the chip is 0.1ohm which is pretty low for a semi mech mod.armor cod resistance limit

Talking of batteries this mod will use a single 21700, 20700 or using the included adaptor a single 18650.armor cod battery

As this has a chip this allows extra functions including a battery capacity remaining display. There are a series of LED indicators next to the fire button.armor cod LED

I am not sure what the “COD” in the name means? Cash on delivery? Call of Duty? Or the fish – seeing that Ehpro are calling the LED panel the “big eye”…?armor cod view

Here is a short video from the Ehpro Facebook page introducing the Armor COD mod.

The EHPRO Kelpie RDA has been designed by multi-award winning UK based YouTube reviewer Vaping With Vic aka Victor Mullin.

I say YouTube reviewer, earlier this week the popular channel was taken down by the platform and it remains uncertain at the time of writing if it will be re-instated or is gone forever.

ehpro kelpie rda review

Given this is Vic’s ‘business’ it’s an obvious blow, but he says he will be continuing on another video host as well as Facebook.

OK, the Kelpie RDA is the follow up to the EHPRO Kelpie RTA that I reviewed last year – that was an absolute flavour machine and one I rated highly – apart from that loose top cap – so I’m hoping for big things off this dripper.

EHPRO might be one of the newer and smaller e-cigarette manufacturers but they really do have a good track record.

The Raptor tank introduced us to Seagrass coils – the True MTL RTA was extremely highly rated as was the Cold Steel 100 mod.

What Can We Expect From the EHPRO Kelpie RDA?

It’s fair to say there’s been a barrage of controversy over the EHPRO Kelpie RDA!

Vic is a controversial character so anything he brings out is and will be put under the microscope by fellow reviewers and indeed the vape community.

ehpro kelpie rda machining issue
‘chattering’

Early reports say the machining on the inside of the barrel left a lot to be desired – as you can see it’s there on the one’s I’ve recieved.

Vic has also pointed out that first and foremost this is meant to be used as a squonking RDA. This is mainly due to when used as a dripper, it can cause spit-back – again something I shall be looking at.

As with any RDA I’m looking most of all for good flavour – with clouds I guess a bonus and an easy build deck.

Adjustable airflow is also something high on the list for a good RDA and again I’ll be looking at that too.

OK, the Kelpies were sent to me direct from EHPRO – thank you – and for the record they arrived within 8 days after being posted out from Shenzhen 2 weeks ago – given the apparent ‘coronavirus crisis‘ in China you have to say that’s remarkable 😉

OK, and as most of us know a Kelpie is a fabled shape-shifting water based ‘monster’ found in Scottish lochs and waterways, so let’s see if this is going to become a legendary dripper.

Inside the Box

A simple box that at least has thumb slots to allow you to open it easily. Design wise I did think it looked a lot like a box of condoms when I first opened the parcel! Also the words Vaping With Vic are hardly what you might call ‘prominent’.

kelpie rda box

Inside you’ll find:

  • Ehpro Kelpie RDA
  • 2x pre made coils
  • 3 O-rings
  • Screwdriver
  • Cotton
  • Spare screws
  • Squonk pin
  • Instruction manual

kit contents

EHPRO Kelpie RDA Specs

  • Size: 24x36mm
  • Material: Stainless Steel and Resin
  • Single coil build deck
  • 9mm deep juice well
  • Solid 510 or BF squonk 510 pins
  • Side adjustable airflow
  • Honeycomb deck airflow outlet

Key Features

This is a single coil RDA and smallish at just 24mm at the base.

It features a kind of half-pipe honeycomb airflow on the deck with two large open slots on the side.

ehpro kelpie rda deck

The airflow is adjustable, however it’s not that clear as to when it’s open or fully closed as you are unable to see through the 15 holes on the outside of the barrel.

The single 15th hole is a bit of mystery – however I use it to set the airflow – if the stainless steel shows the RDA airflow is totally shut off!

kelpie rda airflow

For such a small device there’s a huge pair of juice wells coming out at 9mm – that’s deep, and more like a kind of hybrid RDTA.

The deck is a postless style with x4 slots and pre-installed allen screws with spares in the box.

post slots

Mine came with the dripping 510 pin installed and there’s a squonk pin in the box – as well as the usual O-rings – lump of cotton and x2 decent looking coils.

rda colours

The EHPRO Kelpie RDA is currently available in in three colours: Black – Stainless Steel and Blue.

Design and Build Quality

OK, let’s tackle the elephant in the room – the tool marks on the inside of the barrel.

Yes the so called ‘chattering’ is found on all three of the Kelpies I’ve received with the marks showing up prominently on the stainless steel version.

kelpie rda design

After watching a few review videos and looking at photos I was expecting deep gouges with rough edges.

Mine could be a newer batch because whilst there’s a definite ‘chatter line’ they are smooth – but still the Kelpie RDA has to be marked down for build quality.

There’s also been some talk about the ‘seam’ between the main barrel and the checkerboard design at the top of the RDA. Sure the instinct is to turn that to adjust airflow, but you quickly realize it’s just a press-fit and move on.

However even in the short time I’ve been using the EHPRO Kelpie RDA – that seam attracts any juice residue or gunk – so you will find yourself wiping it a lot.

On all three of my Kelpie RDA’s the deck machining is pretty good with no machine marks or dinks – again this could be down to a newer batch.

Kelpie RDA Design

It’s very old school in the looks department – nothing really fancy going on with the shape.

The Kelpie logo is nicely etched into the barrel and doesn’t jump out in your face. A little design niggle – purely subjective – is the word Kelpie on the drip-tip – did it really need that? But again not a deal breaker in my book as you can switch it out no bother.

RDA on mod

The deck is very similar to other RDA’s I’ve seen – can’t for the life of me put my finger on them! Answers in comments below lol!

The honeycomb airflow is designed to ‘surround’ the coil and as to how the RDA performs we’ll look at now.

How Does the EHPRO Kelpie RDA Perform?

Straight out of the box mine was set-up for dripping…but first the build.

Building On the EHPRO Kelpie RDA

Thanks to the clever design of the deck you have two ways to lay out your coils – legs in the same or opposite direction.

As always I used the coils out of the box and immediately found an issue.

included coils

The coils are a little to short for the deck – the four wraps only just and I mean only just stretch to both posts holes. Best thing to do is space them out a little before doing the build – I’m a slow learner 🙂

This of course means your coil can become misshapen and it took me a little while to get them looking tidy.

I’m not the world’s greatest builder by a long way, but also found the hex screws were tricky to bite into the coil legs – as I said I’m a fingers and thumbs kind of bloke so that could just be down to me.

coiled

The good news is once I was satisfiedish with how it looked, those coils glowed from the inside out almost immediately and came out at bang on 0.3ohm.

Wicking is a doddle given this is a dripper. However less is more as far as width goes, but given this has 9mm juice wells you will need much longer legs than is the norm.

wicked

As to coil placement? Given the coil by now had become stretched I had it about 1mm off the airflow as it refused to lift any higher – we shall see if that’s the optimum spot.

EHPRO Kelpie RDA – As A Dripper

Vic says he realizes the EHPRO Kelpie RDA is more of a squonker than an old school dripper suggesting you will get spit-back dripping your juice straight down the barrel.

Initially that’s exactly what happened – however wait a moment for the juice to follow gravity and all’s good.

Better still pop the nozzle of your e-liquid directly into the juice ports and fill it up – like I said almost like an RDTA.

EHPRO Kelpie RDA – As A Squonker

Swapping the 510’s out is easy even with a full build in there.

I popped mine on the awesome Augvape and Mass Mods S2 squonk mod and the black Kelpie looked a picture.

mass mods

The squonking action was very good indeed with juice pretty much settling equally into both juice wells.

I over-squonked a couple of times with the barrel off – that was down to me watching the squonk action. With the barrel on I’ve not over-squonked once.

EHPRO Kelpie RDA – Flavour and Clouds

The flavour?

One word – WoW!

Yup, there’s no getting away from it, the EHPRO Kelpie RDA is a flavour machine to say the least.

ehpro kelpie rda performance

In dripper mode I used Riot Squad Raspberry Punk Grenade – a 70/30 VG PG mix at 77w.

My go to dripper is the Augvape BTFC RDA and the Kelpie RDA came as close as you like to the flavour off that one – impressive.

As for clouds – plenty if that’s your bag with my office filling with sweet smelling clouds within seconds.

EHPRO Kelpie RDA Airflow

Wide open airflow and it’s a little noisy to say the least.

Half closed and things quieten down a little and as to restriction?

Wide-open it’s quite a loose vape and I really liked it – half shut and it’s around a 5 out of 10 with 10 being wide open.

RDA on sq mini

Completely shut-off and it is an MTL vape of sorts and there’s a 510 drip tip adapter in the box should you wish to go down that route.

After using it for a few days, I popped in one of my own longer coils and was able to lift it slightly higher. To be honest I didn’t see any loss or increase in flavour but felt it was easier to build on.

Pros

  • Amazing flavour
  • Tremendous clouds
  • Easyish build
  • Value for money
  • Deep juice wells
  • Great for squonking
  • Simple design

Cons

  • Pretty bad machining inside the barrel
  • A little noisy
  • Spit-back if you drip and vape immediately!
  • Included coils are too short

Final Review Verdict

Vic’s previous release – the Kelpie RTA – had serious manufacturing issues – at least the one I received.

That one had an awful top cap that as I said in my review was ‘looser than a wizard’s sleeve’ and it did dump juice all over my jeans 🙁

Indeed as much as I liked that RTA it’s no longer useable.

With the EHPRO Kelpie RDA we once again have issues – this time with the machining.

Whilst the ones I’ve received are nowhere near as bad as some I’ve seen, you have to feel for Vic!

However these chatter lines should not – I’m led to believe – impact on the overall vape quality.

It’s not going to win any prizes in the looks or innovation department and that ain’t a bad thing.

Get your own coils in there – take your time dripping or better still use it as a squonker – and as I’ve said – the flavour is amazing.

So – are you using the EHPRO Kelpie RDA or thinking of buying it?

Let me know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.

Today we are going to take a look at the Ehpro Raptor tank. A newly released stock coil tank that has been designed and manufactured by Ehpro and distributed by Horizon Tech.Ehpro Raptor Tank 3 types

Ehpro was Est in 2011 and hails from China, in 8 years Ehpro has grown into a fairly well-known ecig manufacturer. They have an impressive back catalogue which include the Billow X RTA, Bachelor X RTA and recently the Kelpie RTA.

When it comes to box mods the superb Cold Steel 100 and its big brother the Cold Steel 200 stand out from the crowd.

What Can We Expect From the Rapor Tank from Ehpro?

Stock Tanks (atomisers that use pre-made coil heads) have been around for what seems forever.

It seems like vaping manufacturers are trying to update the technology which can only be good thing. Not everyone has the knowledge base or time to build coils and maintain RDA’s or RTA’s.Ehpro Raptor Tank use

Most tanks these days have that something little extra in their design or manufacture that makes that tank stand out for whatever reason!

Because there are literally 1000’s of stock coil tanks out there on the market the quality varies greatly. What that means is that it can be very hard finding the right tank to suit you!

It’s either a case of pot luck or get a good recommendation to choose the best sub ohm tank first time around.

The Raptor tank is a solid atomizer that I would recommend highly as a mid level experience tank. It incorporates the world’s first stock seagrass cotton fibre coil with a 360° airflow.

The flavour and cloud rivals some of the best RTA’s out there, the tank is also handy top filler.Ehpro Raptor Tank SG coil

Although watch out for this one because teeth and claws ain’t extinct LOL – let’s go take a detailed look at the Raptor tank from Ehpro………………………….

This product was sent to us for the purpose of review. As always my thoughts and views are my own after a considerable testing period.

Design and Build Quality

The Ehpro Raptor Tank comes in a card box with a paper over sleeve, the atomiser is made of stainless steel, with Plastic (Pyrex if you have the standard edition) and topped off with a resin mouthpiece.Ehpro Raptor Tank box

Coils

Mesh coils are becoming the norm in many stock coil tanks these days and are very popular with the flavour enthusiasts.

Ehpro have gone a step further and have included Sea Grass as a wicking material??

It’s a material I hadn’t heard much about until I obtained this tank, In the past I associated Sea Grass fibre with floor coverings like carpet or even ropes LOL.

I tried to do a bit of research into the coils I could not find much on the manufactured cotton. Although Sea Grass does seems to be strong and durable as well as eco-friendly!

Apparently it’s also cheaper to manufacture than ordinary cotton, the cotton is not as densely packed into the coil head and that helps with better flavour apparently. We shall see!

Ehpro include 2 of coils with the kit,

  • 0.15Ω EL1B-3 Single Mesh Coil – rated for 70W
  • 0.25Ω EL2B-3 Dual Mesh Coil – rated for 80W

Ehpro Raptor Tank coils bThese coils are cross compatible with the Horizon Falcon Tank.

Tanks

I have the EU 2ml edition it is supplied with a plastic 2ml tank pre fitted; they also sent along in a separate little box with a 6ml Pyrex tank (jumps for joy lol).Ehpro Raptor Tanks

The 2ml plastic tank can only be used with the single 0.15Ω coil.

You will not be able to use the dual 0.25Ω coil with the 2ml tank installed due to the size of the coil.Ehpro Raptor Tank 2ml

From the outside of the tank it looks like there isn’t much room but this is an optical illusion looking into the tank there is plenty of room for liquid.Ehpro Raptor Tank space

Cap, Fill Port and Chimney

The cap, fill port and chimney are made of SS and are one piece. Looking at the end of the chimney you will see threading this will screw directly into the coil.Ehpro Raptor Tank chimA small O’ring to stops the coil from being flooded. On the cap you will see a small arrow, push to open to reveal the fill port which is one kidney shaped port.Ehpro Raptor Tank fp

Mouthpiece

Only 1 drip tip is included with the kit, an 810 goon style tip. It’s made of resin and has a marbled effect to it, you do however get a 510 adaptor in the spares bag.Ehpro Raptor Tank dt

Over all I would say that the tank is solid its well made with good quality and has been well designed.

How Does The Ehpro Raptor Perform?

For this example I will be using pre installed 0.15Ω coil with the 6ml glass attached and I have filled the Raptor with my DIY e-liquid which is a 3mg, 80/20 Coffee and Peppermint.

I will be testing the Raptor tank on my VooPoo Alpha Zip mod.Ehpro Raptor Tank disp

Basic Quick Start Guide

How To Replace the Raptor Coil

I recommend when changing coils you empty any liquid before hand or you will end up making a mess.

  1. Unscrew the base of the tank and replace the coil with your choice of the 2 supplied. Don’t forget to pre wick the coil by dampening the cotton with e-juice. At this time you can choose to change your tank if you own the bubble glass.Ehpro Raptor Tank pre
  2. Reassemble the tank and close the airflow.
  3. Open the slide fill port and fill the tank with your favourite e-liquid then close the fill port and place on your mod!Ehpro Raptor Tank fill
  4. I suggest waiting for about 2 minutes before you toot on the Raptor tank to allow the cotton to soak up more liquid, don’t forget to re open the airflow!Ehpro Raptor Tank full

To say that I’m impressed with the Ehpro Raptor tank is an understatement and something of a minor miracle!

I have been using the tank for a week and will admit I was somewhat sceptical about the Sea Grass cotton, but so far I am getting good flavour and excellent vapour production.

30 to 50W

With the airflow cut to almost nothing at 30w you can get a passable MTL style draw that is very cool the vapour production is nothing to write home about but the flavour is good.Ehpro Raptor Tank 30 At 50w with the AF open to half the warmth is very good the flavour is great. The vapour production is much better with a direct to lung (DTL) draw no surprise there after all this is a sub ohm tank.

60 to 70w

At 60 and 70w with the AF open fully the resulting flavour and vapour production was extremely good.Ehpro Raptor Tank 70The heat was a little too much for me at 70w so knocking it back to 65w was just right for me.Ehpro Raptor Tank 65

Coil/Airflow

The 360°  AF surrounding the coil does make for a very airy draw but by using the external control ring the tank can be dialled to suit your preference.Ehpro Raptor Tank toot vape

As previously mentioned both the coils supplied are compatible with the Horizon Tech Falcon Tank likewise the Falcon coils are compatible with the Raptor Tank. So a bonus for Falcon users!

Coil Life

I have been using the .15Ω coil exclusively for one week and at the time of writing this review at 65w, the flavour has not dropped at all.

In fact, looking into the used coil you can see hardly any degradation of either the coil or the Sea Grass Cotton, I am unsure how long the coil will last but it seems to be long lasting!Ehpro Raptor Tank used coil

Pros

  • Good looking tank
  • Solid construction
  • 6ml glass supplied
  • Sea Grass Cotton
  • Good flavour right from the start
  • Excellent vapour production

Cons

  • I’ve got no real big concerns with the Raptor Tank

Final Review Verdict

The Ehpro Raptor is a well build, solidly constructed Tank with the added benefit of the included 6ml bubble glass tank.

The coils containing Sea Grass Cotton did surprise me with good flavour and excellent vapour production. This tanks is not designed to be used as a MTL device but does deliver great flavour if the AF is set to almost closed.

Would I recommend the Raptor Tank?

Yes I would.

Would I personally buy the Ehpro Raptor tank again if I to lost or damaged it? Here’s the thing, I’m not a stock coil tank user normally but yes I’d consider replacing it, if only for the flavour it produces.

Ehpro have been making some nice things over the last few years, I use one of their Mod 101’s as a daily driver and their True MTL RTA was one of the most impressive mainstream mouth to lung RTA’s I’ve used.

Now they’re back with the Ehpro Cold Steel 100 co-designed by AmbitionZ Vaper a US YouTube reviewer.Ehpro Cold Steel 100 vape mod review

What Can We Expect From the Cold Steel 100 by Ehpro

The Cold Steel 100 is a regulated single battery mod that takes 21700, 20700 and 18650.

Somewhat confusingly this is actually a 120W device, despite being called the Cold Steel 100.ehpro cold steel 100 in hand

I suspect that the name was already decided on when they asked for AmbitionZ input, as he has said that one of the things he wanted to change, was for it to go to 120W rather than the 100W they had planned.

So a hefty little single battery mod, capable of 120W (with the right battery). Can this be one of the best single battery vape mods I’ve tried? Let’s take a look at what we get!

This item was sent over free of charge for the purposes of this review. As always, this in no way changes my opinion, and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

Design and Build Quality

The moment you pick the Cold Steel 100 up you immediately notice the weight of it, this is not a plastic fantastic! ehpro cold steel 100 in handThe whole thing is made of metal (brass, zinc alloy and stainless steel) and it has a reassuring heft to it, especially once you fit a 21700 and a tank.

It comes in three colour ways, Grey Champagne (which I have), Black Obsidian, or Old Gold. The Grey Champagne has a lovely vertically brushed finish that feels really silky and doesn’t pick up fingerprints.Colour options for the Cold Steel 100 mod

However since it’s a slightly warm colour, it’s not going to be a perfect match with most attys, though it’s close enough with a brushed steel.

Branding is minimal with AmbitionZ Vaper printed just above the fire button. ehpro cold steel 100 ambitionz vaper brandingWith Cold Steel embossed around the base of the mod. cold steel engraving on ehpro modThe only other printing is on the 510 plate where it says Manufactured by Ehpro and your serial number.

The design is going to put some people in mind of the SL Class from SXmini. But I don’t feel they lose any points for this.

When you’re designing a single battery mod you have to find somewhere to put the board and the switches. battery compartment on cold steel 100 by ehproIt either becomes a small box mod, or if you want to keep the tube style, you make it taller (my Ehpro Mod 101 Pro is another 26mm in height) or stick it on the side in it’s own section.

There’s also some thoughtful touches, the tube section has a slight hourglass shape to it, so it fits really comfortably in the hand. Also all the corners on the control section are nicely rounded, so it’s really comfortable to hold despite it’s weight.

The width (not including the bulge) reaches 27.5mm, but the way the top is slanted in towards the spring mounted 510, means that this will handle up to 25mm without any overhang.510 threading

The OLED screen is a little on the small side at 4mm x 18mm, but because of that and the fact it’s recessed into the metal, you would have to be really unlucky to ever break it. It’s also a really nice and bright, I never had any trouble reading it in bright sunlight. This is certainly an area they’ve improved since some of their earlier mods!

When you switch it on, the word Cold Steel scrolls across the display, fine with that. However when you switch it off, rather than just turning off, or even saying “Goodbye”, it actually reads “Bye-Bye”, which I couldn’t stop hearing in a childish sing-song voice! oled screen ehpro cold steel 100A little thing but here’s hoping Ehpro will allow us to change that with a firmware upgrade in the future!

Controls

You have a nicely textured fire button, and your +/- on what looks like a rocker switch.

  • 5 Clicks = On/Off
  • 3 Clicks = Menu, +/- to scroll and Fire to select
  • Fire and + = Lock your value (wattage, voltage or temp)
  • Fire and – = Flip screen orientation
  • Fire, + and – = “Stealth Mode” Screen off, and values locked

Below this you have a little hole with an LED (it flashes green when you screw in a battery) and your micro USB port for charging and firmware upgrades. As usual though, I would never recommend charging a battery in a device, much safer to just use an external charger.

The battery cap has absolutely silky smooth threading, with the + and – showing your battery orientation clearly printed inside. When you first get the mod, your 18650 adapter will also be in here, and I’m pleased to say there’s no battery rattled even with the smaller battery.

Belt Loop Holster

When you first open the box, the mod is inside this nice durable little belt pouch, with simple Ehpro branding in white.Carry case

However although I quite like its inclusion, I can’t see myself ever using it as it doesn’t offer any way of you closing it when you have an atty attached. The top folds down and is held closed by Velcro, but there’s not enough height in it to have anything attached and closed.carry case for the ehpro cold steel 100

I did managed to get it to close *just* with one of my tiniest little RDA’s, but I wish there were a way to make it useful when you’ve got a tank attached.

Modes

There’s a good range of modes here, with pretty much everything you would normally want.

It isn’t obvious when you first use it, but there’s actually a lower level menu hidden behind some of the options. The menu system is really well designed, sensibly stacking menu options to make the most of the small screen.

Power

Once you select Power you then get the option to choose either Normal, Soft or Strong, with slightly different ramp up times for each to suit your style.

The wattage will adjust in 0.1W increments up to 30W (0.5W for 30-120W) for a single click and full 1W adjustments if you press and hold. It will also scroll REALLY fast if you keep it held down. Stopping at the top or bottom, and then round robin.

I think this is one of the best adjustments I’ve come across, and allows you to easily switch your power, whilst giving you plenty of fine control.

One thing to note is that there’s no way you’re going to get 120W out of an 18650, though it will still let you scroll up that high. Ehpro actually say on their website that 80-120W is only going to be reachable with a battery capable of 40A.

Temp

In Temperature Control Mode, you first have to select your wire type:

  • Nickel
  • Titanium
  • Stainless
  • TCR for entering your own value

Then immediately set what wattage you want it to up to, if you’re setting you’re own TCR you do this after this step.

I really like the fact that this is incorporated into setting temp control, as sometimes you need to dig into other menus. Also it allows you to use the full 120W of the mod in TC, so many mods limit you when you switch to temp control and don’t allow you to go to the maximum.

Once done you can go scroll from 200-600°F, then it stops, and it will round robin into Celsius from 100-315°C.

It also locks the resistance when you select Temp Control, which is a useful touch. I’ve vaped on TC on mods that don’t (or require another menu step), and if you switch it back on again after having been vaping for a while, your resistance reading is way off due to the way the resistance changes with heat.

Just remember to always set up Temp Control whilst your coil is at room temperature.

Curve

Curve allows you to change how it will fire over the first two seconds of vaping in 0.1s increments and allowing the power to be multiplied by between 0.5x and 2x.

This is probably a bit granular for most people, and other than having a quick play with it, it’s not a mode I came back to. It’s nice that it’s there, but I suspect most people will be happy with the Soft/Normal/Strong options in power mode.

One word of warning though, to exit out of Curve you have to long press the fire button, so if it’s set to be using 2x the power (and you were already on a high wattage for your coil) you do risk blasting it a bit!

You can read more about power curves with our guide here.

Voltage and Bypass

These both do what you would expect, and to be honest I don’t know many people that still use Voltage compared to Wattage, but it’s there if you like it. Bypass gives you the feel of a mechanical mod with all of the protections of a regulated.

How Does the Ehpro Cold Steel 100 perform?

Battery Life

Aside from a couple of quick tests, I’ve been using a 21700 in this. It’s been my main device for a little while and I have been really happy with it, everything I throw at it it handles with aplomb.battery options for cold steel 100 mod

For the first few days I was testing it at lower wattage’s (15-25W) for Mouth to Lung (MTL) vaping and the battery seems to last forever, happily giving me 2-3 days of heavy vaping.

One thing I did notice though is that it does seem to drain them VERY dry, so I’d recommend taking your batteries out before the mod won’t fire anymore.

Stepping up to a dual coil Direct to Lung (DTL) tank, vaping at 70-100W the battery life obviously took a big hit, but it would still last me half a day quite easily. Their power management has definitely been improved here.

One nice thing about replacing your atomiser with a new one, is that (provided it’s turned on when you do it) it will ask you if it’s a new coil or the same, which you select with +/-. If you select New, it will take a guess (based on resistance) of what wattage you’re likely to be wanting.

If you select Same, it will keep your wattage unchanged. A small thing, but appreciated!

Temp Control

I set up one of my drippers with some TC wire, I don’t vape in TC often, but it seemed to do a pretty good job of throttling down the power and giving a consistent vape.

It also never got to the point where it gave me a dry hit.

One thing to remember when you’re using Temp Control, is that you’ll want to set a slightly higher wattage than what you would normally vape at, as you’re only setting the maximum it will use, and it will quickly drop down as the coil heats up.

Combined with the thoughtful menu functionality for TC, I was really impressed with how this performed and would recommend it for someone that’s curious about trying TC but has been put off by confusing implementation.

Bypass

One thing that’s worth pointing out is that it is extremely quick to fire in Bypass. It does feel like using a mechanical mod, giving you that instant hit the moment you press the button, and the power dropping off as your battery drains.

If you’re interested in getting into mechs, then something like this in bypass mode will give you some practice and a feel for it, without risking life and limb.

Pros

  • Solid build quality and great finish
  • 120W in a single battery mod
  • Really thoughtfully designed menu
  • Temp Control that doesn’t feel like an afterthought
  • Fast firing in bypass mode

Cons

  • Maybe a bit *too* fast when scrolling wattage
  • Says “Bye-Bye” like it’s presenting kids TV
  • Could do with a “Set” function when setting your curve, rather than long pressing fire
  • Slightly pointless (although nice) belt pouch
  • Champagne Grey doesn’t match much

Final Review Verdict

As you can probably tell I have been really impressed with the Ehpro Cold Steel 100 mod. The quality of the build, and the nicely designed menu system, make this easily one of my favourite single battery mods.

It’s got a reassuring weight to it, and feels like if you were unlucky enough to drop it, the floor would come off worse.

Although it’s definitely reminiscent of another mod out there, it’s more than done enough to stand on it’s own.

Although my Cons list is as large as my Pros, they are all just tiny niggles, and they don’t take much away from what is a great piece of kit.

The Ehpro Kelpie RTA is a single coil tank and a joint project between award winning UK based vape reviewer Victor Mullin aka Vaping With Vic and popular vaping company EHPRO.

This is Vic’s first design and has it’s fair to say been hugely anticipated to say the least, not only among his 56k plus [and growing fast] YouTube channel subscribers but the wider vaping community. Since writing Vic has also released a new dripper. You can check out our Ehpro Kelpie RDA review here.

kelpie rta review

EHPRO have a solid track record with releases such as the awesome True MTL RTA which our Michelle absolutely loved – the 101 Pro Kit which Laura-ann enjoyed – the Panther RDA which our Kevin really liked and the Morph Tank from way back ‘in the day’.

Like I said a very good stable of vape devices indeed so has the Kelpie followed in those footsteps?

The Kelpie RTA was sent to be free of charge by Ehpro for the purpose of this review – thank you – and as always freebies in no way affect my thoughts and opinions. And BTW neither does Vic being a mate of mine who I enjoy catching up with at Expos. As an aside we don’t see eye to eye on some of the politics around vaping but I do enjoy his rants…mostly lol.

OK the scene is set and for the record a Kelpie is a fabled shape shifting creature ‘found’ in Scottish lochs and water.

So has the Kelpie made a splash with me? Let’s take a look…

Inside the Box

kelpie rta box

I received my Kelpie in the reviewer ‘sample’ box and I think the only difference is mine doesn’t have the nicotine warning…great to see easy open thumb holes too…OK inside you’ll find:

  • Fully assembled Kelpie RTA
  • Spare 3.5ml Bubble Glass
  • Screwdriver
  • X2 Pre-made coils
  • Pack of o-rings
  • X4 Phillips screws
  • User manual

kelpie rta contents

Kelpie RTA Specs

  • Top fill design
  • Single Coil
  • 30 hole perforated airflow
  • 2ml & 3.5ml Capacity
  • Diameter: 25mm
  • Height: 32mm (Not including 510 or drip tip)
  • Choice of black or stainless steel

Key Features

The Ehpro Kelpie is a 25mm single coil RTA designed by Ecigclick Vape Award winning reviewer Victor Mullin aka Vaping With Vic and is his first project.

It features a half pipe honeycomb airflow but with a bit of a twist. There are 30 holes with those directly under the coil bored slightly smaller. The others surround the coil and appear to be drilled in slightly different angles…nice touch.

kelpie rta deck

The clever deck design means no matter which way your coil legs have been wrapped they will fit in easily – either sharing one side or splitting them.

The Kelpie RTA has a bottom airflow design that first impressions suggests the size of it means this is going to be an airy tank – as to if that’s the case I’ll tackle later.

kelpie rta

The chamber is domed and given this is a relatively small RTA it means the coil is closer to your mouth suggesting this will be a very flavoursome vape indeed…as to if that’s the case we shall see very soon.

Design and Build Quality

EHPRO generally make decent tanks and the machining on the Kelpie is first rate with little or no screeching even straight out of the box – those threads are smooth.

The same can be said for the airflow control. I have found very many smaller RTAs with bottom fed air are tricky to adjust whilst on a mod. No issues at all with the Kelpie as the generous yet understated knurling makes for a good grip – good tension too.

kelpie rta loose fill port

A cause for concern on some of the first batch has been the looseness of the sliding top fill.

Sad to say mine is looser than a wizard’s sleeve. Whilst I have taken this out and about I’ve so far had no leaks but do find myself constantly checking for a damp patch in my pocket…ooer missus…I guess it’s just the luck of the draw in this first batch as some are loose whilst others are tight and do snap shut with a satisfying click.

Screw Up With the Screws?

One bone of contention from many vape reviewers is the quality of the Phillips head screws. As our very own Flat-Cap Vaper pointed out in his video review, you can check that out here

Whilst I can see their point I personally don’t have an issue with them – they are what they are and can be replaced…indeed the next batch will be using hex screws. Put it this way the screws are certainly not a ‘deal-breaker’ for me… 😉

Design wise it’s the mirror of the designer…wide and short – ooo slap my wrist haha.

kelpie rta jac vapour dna 75
Scottish paring – Kelpie and the Jac Vapour DNA 75 Sandstorm

However it is a very good looking tank [like I said a mirror image of the designer lol]. The knurling is extremely effective but doesn’t detract from the looks and that 810 drip tip is a stunner.

I love the logo – very cool – and again on my stainless steel version it’s most definitely not in your face.

So a very good build [on the whole]and for me it stands out in the looks department…so how does the Ehpro Kelpie RTA vape?

How Does the Ehpro Kelpie RTA Perform?

First up the build and this is about as easy as you could want. Let’s put it this way if you’re looking for your first RTA this is perfect for a first timer.

As I’ve already said it doesn’t matter which way your coil legs are pointed. Simply unscrew the screws and slide the legs into the post holes from the wide open side and screw down.

There’s no need to pre-measure as there’s plenty of room to snip them off.

kelpie rta coiled

I found having the top of the coil slightly and I mean a mm or so below the screws gave me my best vape.

BTW I used a 3mm quad core Clapton as well as one of those supplied out of the box. To be honest I found both were very good as you’ll soon see.

Quick and Nasty Wicking

Wicking was an absolute doddle too. Vic’s Kelpie introductory video [above] shows you two ways to go and to be honest I’d stick with those if I was you.

kelpie rta firing

On pretty much all RTAs too much or too little cotton can mean dry hits or leaks. Follow Vic’s tutorial and you shouldn’t have any of those issues whatsoever. For the record I used what he calls the ‘quick and nasty method’ – as in snipping the tails at the base of the juice well and thinning out well.

Airflow on the Kelpie RTA

As I said earlier and given the size of the airflow control port I was expecting this to be a very airy vape.

However I guess the abundance of honeycomb holes on the deck dissipate the air somewhat.

Whilst it’s not the tightest single coil RTA I’ve vaped on – such as the Augvape Intake – it’s not the loosest either. Indeed wide open it suits my style of vaping perfectly. Closed right off and you can get a loose-ish mouth to lung vape.

I couldn’t find a 510 adapter so wasn’t able to thoroughly test it out as a pure MTL vape though one other reviewer I’ve seen has tried and says it works very well indeed.

How’s the Flavour and Clouds Off the Ehpro Kelpie RTA

As always it’s the zillion dollar question…how’s the flavour?

One word…WOW!

A combination of very clever airflow and a reduced domed barrel means the flavour off the Kelpie RTA is phenomenal even at much lower temperatures.

Using the supplied coil I’m getting 0.22ohms and running it at just 45w and trust me that flavour is zinging off my taste buds with impressive vaper to match! I pushed it to 55w and felt a marked increase in both flavour and clouds – however past that on my build and I could feel it was too much.

kelpie rta coils

I have popped in the last of my Wotofo Quad Core Fused Claptons which came out slightly lower at 0.18ohms and vaped steadily at 60w.

Again the vape warmed up with awesome flavour and amazing clouds. Pushed to 70w again I felt things whilst nowhere near hot were a little on the edge so to speak.

kelpie wicks well
wicks well!

So, and depending on your build, this little guy performs very well indeed at the mid-range wattage.

Nice one young Victor [I am old enough to be his dad lol] great job indeed!

Pros

  • Easy/clever build deck
  • Easy wicking
  • Stunning design
  • Phenomenal flavour
  • Incredible clouds
  • Good airflow
  • Wicked right and no leaks – even from the loose fill port
  • Bubble glass included
  • Coils ‘n cotton included

Cons

  • Loose fill port [on some]
  • Poor screws – not really an issue for me

Final Review Verdict

This has been one of the most eagerly anticipated vape releases of the year and I think you can tell the wait has been worth it!

It goes without saying – rants aside lol – Vic knows a thing or two about vaping and the design of the Kelpie shows that perfectly.

The airflow whilst nothing new per se’ has a bit of innovation with those smaller and angled holes really wrapping the coil in just enough air not to wash it out. That smaller domed barrel only adds to the flavour production and if vapour is your thing even at mid-range this little cutie chucks.

The flavour is as I’ve said phenomenal – it’s that simple.

It’s a bit of a drinker and tied into the 3.5ml limit you will be filling it quite a bit and on mine the bloody slide to open and close fill port is now looser than when it first arrived which is a shame…I’m just one of the unlucky ones I guess. However it’s certainly not put me off using it by any means and is definitely in my rotation.

In fact I might be pulling the trigger on a black one from the new batch to match it up with my other mods.

For his first design Vic has absolutely nailed the Kelpie and I wouldn’t hesitate in buying one from the new batch, especially if you’re new to the rebuildable scene…

As to the scores on the doors I have to be honest and mark the one I’ve received…however the new batch should see better screws and hopefully a tighter fill port…

Other than that – the Ehpro Kelpie RTA is highly and I mean highly recommended.

true mtl rta poster

This is designed for higher resistance coils and the MTL (Mouth to lung) vaping method. We tell you about MTL and DTL vaping styles in our guide.

So to make a tank tailored to MTL users generally the airflow is more restricted or at least more precisely controlled.

The decks can usually be smaller as the coils will be thinner and smaller diameter than some of the beasts used on Sub Ohm RDA/RTA’s.

The design brief for this tank was to create a “True MTL” tank which is solely for MTL vapers and to try and make it the best it could be.

Having a 2ml capacity (3ml with bubble glass) and 22mm diameter this is a standard size MTL tank – similar to the Vandy Vape Berserker Mini RTA and is also a single coil build deck.

true mtl rta deckThere are two ways to clamp the coil either under the screw head for smaller coils or under the clamp for thicker coils.

The airflow has 5 adjustment settings – there are 5 holes ranging from 1mm to 1.8mm in diameter to provide a restricted but precise airflow control.true mtl rta airflow slots

You can choose from Black or Stainless steel versions and both come with a frosted 510 drip tip.

Thank you to Mark at Naturevape for kindly sending this for review and I will as always report back honestly on my experience with the device I have in my possession.

Build Quality & Design

I received the Ehpro True MTL RTA in the Stainless steel version.True RTA side view

It is shiny and beautiful and topped with a stunning frosted drip tip. I did try a standard 510 drip tip in and it fitted perfectly however there is a slight raised flange on the top of the tank which is visible below the drip tip so it might not look quite right with some drip tips.True RTA drip tips

The deck and the top have a machined pattern which catches the light beautifully.ehpro true mtl rta ss

You get a lovely kit of goodies including 2x1ohm Ni80 Clapton coils, O-rings, Cotton, Screwdriver, Spare glass and plenty of instructions.

Here is the tank with the Bubble glass installed which was my preference.true mtl rta bubble glass

How Does the Ehpro True MTL RTA Perform?

Basic operation

Obviously as this is a rebuildable tank you will need to install a coil and wicking material which we tell you about below.

true mtl rta componentsAlso filling the tank is described below.

Apart from that all you need to do is to rotate the airflow ring on the tank base to open or close the airflow as you prefer.true mtl rta airflow hole

How To Fill The Tank

  • Grab hold of the machined top part of the tank.
  • Turn this clockwise until the filling ports are fully open.true rta filling ports
  • Squeeze e-liquid into the port and watch the level of liquid via the tank glass.
  • Turn the top cap anti-clockwise until the fill ports are closed.

Building

Building is pretty simple – a lot less fiddly than I was expecting but there isn’t much spare space on the deck!true mtl rta components

I initially installed the coil with the coil pretty much touching the airflow inlet and made it central between the posts. As it is quite thin wire I held it under just the screw heads rather than under the full clamps.true mtl rta supplied coil height

Once the post clamps are tightened I put a rod through the coil and lifted it up from the airflow slightly.

So I did a resistance test to just make sure nothing was shorting out – very important on these tiny little decks.

Trim the ends of the coil legs, if there are any spiky bits of wire sticking out they can be tucked under into the notch on the side of the clamp to make sure they don’t short out on the chimney barrel.true mtl rta ehpro coil

Another resistance check and I did a brief pinch and pulse to clear any hot spots at 17W and got the coil glowing evenly.

I used the enclosed coil and when installed the resistance on my Uwell Nunchaku mod was showing 0.78ohm.

Wicking I used Cotton Bacon and made the cotton thick enough to pass through the coil with slight resistance but not enough to disturb or distort the coil.true mtl rta wicking

I trimmed the cotton level with the shoulder on the deck and tucked it into the channels on the deck and below the deck.

Add some drips of e-liquid to saturate the coil and assemble the tank and fill.

We have some more detailed guides for installing and making coils below:

Flavour & Cloud Production

This is a low power tank ideal for high Nicotine strength or Nic Salt E-liquids so I used some of my favourite Nic Salt e-liquids from the Apollo Range which are just so full of flavour for high strength nic it’s such a surprise.

These liquids are 50/50 VG/PG which should work well in this style of tank. We tell you all about VG/PG In E-liquid in our Guide.

Supplied Coils

The coils supplied in the kit are 1.0ohm Ni80 Clapton coils and these are also available to buy on their own from Naturevape/Ehpro.

When I attached the tank to my Nunchaku mod the resistance read 0.78ohms.

true mtl rta supplied coil

So I first started vaping at 17W and went through the airflow settings.

The first tiny hole is really restricted and the largest hole still gives a great MTL restriction. Some might find this slightly too restricted even on the widest hole setting.

For instance I found the airflow on the Digiflavor Siren V2 with only 2 airflow holes exposed was equivalent to the Ehpro True MTL RTA on the widest airflow hole setting.

Compared to the Augvape Merlin MTL RTA this is incredibly restricted – however the Merlin to me seems to be very “airy” for a MTL tank.

At 17W the Breeze flavour Nic Salt e-liquid is bursting with crisp cool flavour and I found the widest airflow hole to be the best for me.

Even from my first vape I was over the moon – the flavour is immense it is beautiful. It tastes as clear as when I reviewed this e-liquid with the GeekVape Ammit MTL RDA.

Wowee.

In fact I found I didn’t even need to go higher in the wattage at all this was just absolutely spot on. Rare that the first vape on a random setting is perfect!

As for throat hit – this is as expected excellent for the liquid I am using. The Vapour was spot on too – this is not going to be a cloud chucker!

I got no dry hits, spitting or leaks either – this just works!

After several days of use – this still kicks out the same pure taste as it did the day I installed the coils – what an absolute beauty!

Vandy Vape MTL Coils

I loved these coils in the Berserker so much I bought a few tubs of them!vandy vape mtl coils

They are Ni80 Superfine MTL Fused Claptons with a rough resistance of 0.7ohm.

With the coil installed and wicked the mod read the resistance as 0.51ohms.ehpro true mtl VV coil

I started off at 17W and went up to 23W and the vapour was getting a bit hot now!

The flavour just bursts out – however the taste was slightly better on the supplied coils – so I will be buying some of those I think.

Pros

  • Beautiful looking RTA
  • Abundance of flavour
  • Perfect airflow settings
  • Lovely quality workmanship
  • Excellent kit contents
  • Surprisingly easy to build
  • Bubble glass option is excellent
  • Easy to fill
  • No leaks, spitting or dry hits

Cons

  • The flange on the top cap might look odd with some drip tip styles. Personally I think the one it comes with is perfect!
  • Deck is tiny – not for those with sausage fingers!
  • Some might find the airflow too restricted – I liked it in the maximum airflow setting – this is comparable to a medium setting on the Siren V2.

Final Review Verdict

I love an MTL RTA – my favourites have been the Digiflavor Siren V2 and the Vandy Vape Berserker Mini. The True RTA has thrashed both these in my opinion.

The Berserker suffered from an annoying top refill cap and the ease of refill on this True is way better. The flavour on the Siren V2 was excellent but the True is even better!

The flavour I have got from the True RTA is pretty damn close to the flavour I was getting using a MTL RDA for the same e-liquids – how rare is that!

The looks and vaping experience of this beautiful little tank have made me extremely happy and doing justice to the excellent e-liquid I have put in it!

I found the bubble glass option was my preference and I did have the airflow on the widest hole.

This is in my top 3 now with the Berserker and the Siren and I have to say the Ehpro True MTL RTA just explodes into the top spot for me.

ehpro mod 101 pro main

Let’s just say, Ehpro hasn’t exactly made waves, or maybe their marketing strategies are just not as aggressive as, say, Wismec or Vgod.

Whether you’re familiar with Ehpro our not, the first time I heard of this Shenzhen brand was last a couple of weeks ago, odd since they have about 30 products on their rather extensive list. HMM…guess I don’t know everything.

Although there are a fair few reviews spanning a few years here at Ecigclick.

Among their products, the fascinating Fusion kit, which allows for 2 different e-juice flavours in one tank, as well as the Geekpro all in one and the original kIT 101 D.

The subject of this review got me really intrigued, because I’ve never owned anything like it in all my time as a reviewer. It’s a regulated, variable wattage TC mod kit, TUBE style and with a single button. Read on to learn how I got on with the fascinating, heavyweight Mod 101 Pro Kit by Ehpro.

Build Quality & Design

Mod 101 Pro

Opening up the black display box, I lift my black Ehpro Mod 101 Pro out of its seating, it’s heavy! I’m talking about 129g just for the mod, without a battery installed!ehpro 101 pro mod

Long story short, it’s a black stainless steel tube with a deep, spring loaded 510 connection at the top and a base that unscrews so that you can fit a cell, an 18650 with the included adaptor, a 20700 or a 21700.ehpro 101 pro batteries

The base has some warning symbols on it, surrounded by an attractive 18 pointed star design on it in a peal type shade and there are two small holes for battery ventilation.

On the inside of the base is a large – sign so you know how to fit your battery.

The top, where the 510 connection is, is free of paint.ehpro mod 101 pro 510

There is a small round button, which is an all purpose button, toward the top of one side, with a small Ehpro logo at the bottom of the same side.

The button is clicky enough and has that nice concentric circle texturing.

At the same height as the button but on the opposite side, is a small OLED screen, with a bright display and all the necessary info displayed.

The finish is not quite shiny, somewhere between a matte and a shine finish, completely scratch proof and when you do scratch it, it makes a wonderful sound…it must have the finest texturing but it’s not visible to the eye.

At the bottom of that same side is a small Mod 101 Pro Logo.

There is NO insulation in the battery chamber.

It’s so heavy once you put the cell in that it almost feels like some kind of a murder weapon, dangerous at any rate.ehpro mod 101 pro base

Lock RDA

The lock RDA is, in my opinion, a pretty thing. Unfortunately, it has one glaring design fault.ehpro lock rda

It’s basically a simple tube shaped barrel, with a top that’s separated from the rest by a deep groove all the way round, the top is hexagonal and easy to get a grip on to remove the barrel, theres also a groove running around the circumference of the hexagonal part.

The removable 810 drip tip on the black version is a glittery grey/blue, with a silver bee-hive pattern embedded in it.

There are 3 small airflow slots on either side the barrel, toward the top, which align well with holes in the dual airflow posts on the deck…but only when you don’t have the beauty ring on, which fits on the deck before you replace the barrel.

This is the big fault for me. This RDA looks weird on the mod 101 Pro without the beauty ring, at least to me.

The RDA is slightly narrower than the mod…it looks far sharper with the shiny SS beauty ring to offset it. The thing is that with the ring, the airflow holes sit above the airflow posts, so that your airflow is full open, no matter how much you turn your barrel.ehpro mod 101 pro lock rda notch coil

That said, I don’t like using the RDA without the ring, for purely aesthetic reasons, what can I say, looks matter to me.

The deck is sexy, with a shallow but functional juice well (the airflow holes are high enough to prevent leaking) and two posts designed to hold the ends of a notch coil.

Two well threaded screws allow you to tighten and loosen your coil from its seating.

The RDA base has two heavy o-rings which make removal and replacement of the barrel/topcap quite easy, provided the RDA is screwed into something.

There is a neat LOCK logo, with picture, cast into one side of the barrel, it is made visible by its contrasting blast texturing.

Accessories

2 Notch coils included, very happy about that, as well as cotton, necessary spares and a plastic battery adaptor for your 18650s.

How Does The Ehpro Mod 101 Pro Kit Perform?

I’m actually very pleased with this kit.

I’m getting really good power coming through, with a 45 Watts that feels closer to 65 and 75 W that feels damn near 100W.

I feel like the single button for all your adjustments and firing is a stroke of genius, although you need to one really careful not to press the fire button even lightly after you’ve reached your desired setting, as its sensitive and will just adjust more unless you wait for it to return to the main screen with your setting programmed.

I find resistance readings to be accurate and the new atomiser readings really on point.

The 4 second waiting time after setting can be a bit of a bitch when you’re on the go.

TC was tested only in SS, since the notch coils are SS, so I don’t think I’ve really tested it thoroughly (sorry!) but from what I can tell, temps feel true and all readings accurate.

I tested the mod with a whole selection of sub ohm vape tanks and had no trouble, trying various coils and testing the mod to its limits.

I experienced no overheating so distribution is really good.

I like the fact that this looks like a mech and there are no battery rattles.

The incredibly heavy weight of this mod gives it a badass feel and I’ve really grown rather fond of it.

The RDA is a proper flavour factory, without the beauty ring.Ehpro 101 Lock RDA

With the beauty ring the air hits the coils a little high so flavour and cloud is slightly diminished.

How To Fill

  • Simply drip directly through the drip tip

How To Change the Coil

  • Loosen the screws in the coil posts
  • Slip in a notch coil
  • Tighten the screws

0.2Ohm Notch Stock Coil Performance

Nice full flavour from the 0.2 Ohm notch coils (the deck only takes 1 coil).

These coils are recommended for 30-50 W and I found that 50W to be more than adequate for really getting the most of my flavours, with nice full vapour production.

One complaint, after just a week my coil is looking brown and done for.

I popped it out to replace it and found that the coil could be bent with ease, indicating that the SS has really lost its mojo…so not a good lifespan from these notch coils, even when used within the recommended range.

Ease of build

Deck building for dummies and folk with chubby butter fingers, just pop it in and tighten, no fuss!

ehpro mod 101 pro lock rda deckPlus, the notch coils fit a good wick with ease.ehpro mod 101 pro lock rda wick

How To Operate the Menu System

  • 5 clicks on and off
  • 3 clicks to enter mode menu
  • Fire to scroll
  • Once you reach your desired setting, wait for the main screen to return

How To Replace The batteries

  • Unscrew the base
  • Fit an 18650 – down, with the adaptor at the Botton
  • Fit a 20700 or 21700 – down
  • Replace the baseehpro mod 101 pro battery chamber

Battery Life

The biggest pro of this mod is the battery life, really outstanding, regardless of whether you are firing a 0.15 OHM coil at 75 W the whole time or not.

  • 8 hours on an 18650
  • 9.5 hours on a 20700
  • 11 hours on a 21700

Above values on a 55W intermittent vape.

Pros

  • Minimalist, mech look
  • Excellent, scratch resistant finishes
  • Hefty weight gives it a quality feel
  • A solid feeling 75 W vape
  • Super flavour and vape from the RDA and notch coils
  • Cool, idiot proof, single button operation
  • Outstanding battery life

Cons

  • Single button adjustments are tricky if you’re impatient or in a hurry
  • Low life span on the notch coils
  • No insulation in the battery chamber

Final Review Verdict

If a regulated, TC tube mod is what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with the Ehpro Mod 101 Pro…it’s sleek, vapes a charm and triples as a musical instrument and murder weapon. I highly recommend this sexy tube kit for lazy fingered builders and mid level to experienced vapers but must insist you ensure your batteries are well wrapped…safety first!

Would I buy the Ehpro 101 Pro if I lost/broke the device? Certainly!

Today we are going to take a detailed look at Ehpro’s latest RDA, the Panther. They say it is a cloud and flavour chaser let’s find out…………

Design and Build Quality

The Panther RDA comes well presented in a card box.

The design of this product had me intrigued the moment I opened the box, the build quality is extremely strong and robust, with the added option of the included BF pin makes this RDA versatile, the RDA was clean with no machine oil present.

The RDA is slightly heavier than other RDA’s in its class and measures 24mm in diameter.Ehpro Panther RDA in box

Made of Stainless Steel and Resin the Panther RDA dismantles in to 3 parts for easy cleaning.Ehpro Panther RDA bits

Base/Build deck

The base is made of stainless steel and the airflow is an integrated internal direct bottom up airflow, the internal AF is surrounded by SS on all sides,Ehpro Panther RDA OV deckThe exterior slots are angled in to concentrate the air flow directly to the bottom of the coil.Ehpro Panther RDA slope AFThe juice well is quite deep, the base has 2 block posts with 4 staggered wire holes that are made of gold plated stainless steel. Drip Tip

A quick guide to coiling and dripping

Placing your coils in the Panther RDA is very simple!

  • Put you coil leads in the wire holes make sure you have 1 in the negative and 1 in the positive post on either side of the RDA build deck; the positive post sits on a peek insulator.Ehpro Panther RDA coils
  • At this point I would suggest you strum and glow your coils.
  • Place your cotton through your coils and fluffEhpro Panther RDA cott wet
  • Moisten your cotton and tuck the ends down into the juice well.Ehpro Panther RDA coils cotton

To re drip your E-liquid, it can be done 2 ways!

  • 1- remove the cap and paint your coils and cotton, replace the cap.
  • 2- splurge your liquid down through the drip tip and carry on vaping.

Whichever method you use: place your Panther RDA on your mod and enjoy.

For those that are not able to build their own coils there are many companies on the net that sell pre made coils of various types and Ω’s for RDA’s and RDTA’s. You can find out more in our beginners guide to building with RBA’s.

How does the Ehpro Panther RDA Perform?

For this review I’m going to be placing the Ehpro Panther RDA on my Drag mod by Voopoo, I will be using the Pre-made Flat Clapton Kanthal 0.13Ω coils that come in the box, and my own liquid I call “Elevenses”  (mocha and digestive biscuit) the cotton I use is Cotton Bacon V2.Ehpro Panther RDA liquid mod

30 – 40W

Airflow set to almost closed and Mouth to Lung style of vape, at 30w the vapour production was a bit on the weak side and cool but the flavour was rich. Knocking the wattage up to 40w and keeping the AF the same, again the flavour was rich and tasty the vapour production was better, much thicker, although I did notice a slight whistle from the AF.Ehpro Panther RDA AF near close

45 – 60W

I opened the AF up to half and using direct to lung style of vape 45w the vapour was thick and cool, the flavour was very rich.Ehpro Panther RDA AF halfUpping the watts to 60W the vapour was warm but not overly so the cloud was very thick and creamy and the flavour was again very good, no whistle detected, opening the AF up full resulted in a lot of vapour being produced with no drop in flavour quality.

Temperature control

Changing my coils for dual SS316L 0.21Ω coils and I loaded up with the same e-liquid.

420F and 80w

Using the AF wide the resulting vapour was thick and dense; the flavour was out of this world.

Airflow

Is easy to operate by simply turning the cap, open fully I found it was a too much for my poor old micro lungs to handle lol, I prefer to set the AF to half no matter what wattage or TC I use, the AF for the Panther is very swishy.Ehpro Panther RDA airflow guide

Leaking

You are always going to expect a little liquid escape via the AF. With the Ehpro Panther RDA I didn’t have any leaks unless I over splurged the liquid or turned it upside down after putting liquid in, I did however experience vapour residue on the top of my mod. Understandable because the AF is low on this RDA.

Chain Vaping

Starting with the Panther cold I chained 8 pulls at 60W with the AF closed to half, the Panther RDA gets very hot and takes a good while to cool down! I’m not too worried by this as no heat hit my lips, and as I always say chain vaping is not the norm.

Pro

  • Excellent flavour at all levels of wattages
  • TC was better for flavour for me
  • Vapour Production was considerable at 60w +
  • Airflow is excellent swishy and very easy to turn
  • Design and build quality is excellent
  • Very sturdy construction
  • Very easy to coil and wick
  • Decent amount of spares
  • BF Squonk pin is included
  • Very good pricing

Cons

  • Apart from the heat created by chain vaping I have no worries with this RDA

Final Review Verdict

The flavour I get from the Panther RDA is out of this world. I’m a flavour junky so I’ve been enjoying the rich intense full on flavour and excellent vapour production!

I’ve really enjoyed the time I have spent with the Panther RDA it is fast becoming one of my favourites, I would happily recommend this RDA to the novice builder as it’s very easy to coil up and use!

The airflow is simply delightful where a lot of RDA’s in my experience have sticky AF the Panther does not! If I had to criticise just one thing, I would ask Ehpro to move the AF up the body of the cap just slightly, thereby eliminating vapour residue to the top of the mod.

Would I buy the Ehpro Panther RDA again if lost/stolen or damaged it? Darn tooting I would.

Some of their most popular products include the Billow and Bachelor series of RTA’s, the colourful Fusion 200w TC Box mod as well as several RDA’s like the stunning Nixon V2.

Ehpro Billow X RTA

Today we are going to take a detailed look at the new addition to the Billow RTA range, the Billow X RTA with the promise from Ehpro that it’s “Beyond All Your Imagination!” let’s go and find out if it is one of the best RTA devices available…..

This product was sent by Ehpro (thank you) for the purposes of review. As always my views are my own.

Design and Build Quality

The Billow X RTA is very well presented in the box; it is made of stainless steel/pyrex and resin.

The Billow X dismantles into 5 parts for easy maintenance.Ehpro Billow X bits

Base/Build Deck

It has a 25mm base billowing (LOL) to a large 27mm diameter, with a 4 post staggered gold plated raised build deck, which is perfect electrical conductivity! Due to the way the posts are set out it makes installing coils very easy. Ehpro Billow X deck

The internal airflow is raised and there are channels for your wicks in each corner of the deck.
Ehpro Billow X inside afThe Billow X RTA has bottom cylon type airflow control, the branding on this tank is around the airflow ring Ehpro one side and Billow X the other.
Ehpro Billow X afOn the base you have your normal CE marks, Ehpro branding as well as a gold plated 510 connection pin.

Tank/s

The Billow X comes preinstalled with a 4ml Pyrex glass tank; however the RTA is capable of extending to 5.5ml with the included Pyrex bubble glass tank.

Ehpro Billow X glassChimney/fill port

The chimney and fill port are one piece, with threads for the top cap and threads to screw onto the build deck. The fill ports are wide kidney shaped holes the chimney section has O rings to hold the glass tank in position and to help stop leaks from the top cap.Ehpro Billow X portsThe decorations on the coil cover are a large X and what looks like billowing wind, these are kind of distracting for me and I cant help but feel the tank would have looked better without these.

Ehpro Billow X empty 4ml
Top Cap | 810 drip tip

The top cap screws easily onto the chimney section with the aid of knurling around its edges you have an O ring set inside of the cap for your.Ehpro Billow X tc side

The 810 goon style drip-tip is made of resin and has a beautiful funky marbling colour/pattern on it.

The Ehpro Billow X RTA is 45.3mm high without the 510 threading; all threads are smooth to operate, the design and quality of this tank looks to be very high indeed.

Ehpro Billow X out of box

A basic how to guide

  • Unscrew the base and install your coils and cotton.

  • Dampen your cotton with e liquid and tuck the tails into the wick channels.
  • Choose which tank option you wish to use 4ml or 5.5ml.
  • Re assemble base into the main structure.
  • Close your airflow!Ehpro Billow X fill
  • Remove your top cap to reveal the kidney shaped fill ports and fill with e liquid.
  • Replace the cap, leave for a few minutes for the cotton to soak up more e liquid.
  • Place on your desired mod and vape away.

*Tip Ensure you have enough cotton to fill the cotton channels well or you will experience leaking with this RTA.

The atty stands you can see in my photos are called Kizoku Magnetic, the stand cells are created by the Japanese designer Kizoku! They are available here in packs of 10 and come in different colours, a cool practical vape toy, made of plastic each cell has 8 magnets enabling you to form fun shapes with them.Kizoku atty

How Does The Ehpro Billow X RTA Perform?

For this review I have filled the Billow X RTA with Obies Brew Coco Granola I also used 2 of the pre made Flat Clapton coils that came with the RTA they work out to be 0.16Ω after heating and strumming, I will be using the Billow X on my Wismec Reuleaux GEN3.Ehpro Billow X mod and juice

60W – 100w

Starting at 60W, 4ml tank, the airflow set to half using straight to lung style of vape, the vape was warm and pleasant with good flavour and a good amount of vapour production.

Bumping the wattage up to 80w and then to 100w with the airflow wide I found the heat of the vapour increased remarkably but the flavour, for me, diminished a lot. My sweet spot for this RTA is around 70w giving me a good balance between flavour and vapour.

40W

With the airflow set just below ¼ open, I was able to get a ‘kind of’ mouth to lung draw from the Billow X, below this wattage the vapour was a little disappointing! This RTA likes power! The flavour was good though.

Filling & Leaking

The tank is very easy to fill due to the large kidney shaped fill holes, I always keep the airflow closed while filling. You need to use a lot of cotton in the channels or you will simply flood e-liquid when you open the airflow, trust me its happened quite a lot to me until I got the balance of cotton right.

Top Cap/Changing Coils/ Airflow

Care must be taken not to over tighten the top cap as it can be difficult to remove! While the cap has a type knurling I found more than once I had to use paper tissue to help me grip and remove.

Even if you have some e-liquid remaining in the tank changing coils/cotton is very easy just turn the tank upside down and unscrew the base, no e-liquid will escape unless you have a full tank!Ehpro Billow X working

The airflow is wide and swishy open to its fullest, although when seated on the mod I found it difficult, if not near impossible to alter the airflow due to airflow ring being recessed to the larger tank.

You simply cannot get purchase on the airflow ring without unscrewing the tank, I ended up removing the tank from the mod every time I wanted to change the A/F, also I find the airflow set to half and lower tends to be quite noisy!

Chain Vape

As always part of my tests include Chain Vaping, the tank held up well to this test at 60W however it did get very hot and didn’t cool very quickly, the 4ml tank empty’s quite fast as well while chain vaping, so no big surprise there LOL.

Pros

  • Being able to change the 4ml glass for 5.5ml bubble glass
  • Good flavour and vapour production from 60W
  • Fair design
  • Good quality of build
  • Bonus for me is the resin driptip

Cons

  • Noisy airflow
  • Recessed airflow ring
  • Leaking issues if not enough cotton used

Final Review Verdict

I have never owned any product by Ehpro before, so the Billow X RTA was a personal learning experience for me, after I learnt the correct way to wick this beast, through trial and error I might add, which truth be told I did almost gave up on it, due to the air being so blue because of its constant leaking!

I’m glad I didn’t give up as I’m truly impressed with the Ehpro Billow X RTA and the flavour I get, although the airflow ring is right royal pain in the butt I enjoyed using this RTA.

Would I buy the Ehpro Billow X RTA again should I damage or lose it? Yes I would.

So is This New Single Coil RTA Going To The Top Of The Class?

The Bachelor X is as the name suggests a single coil 25mm RTA from EHPRO.

The company has brought out some decent devices in its time including the Billow V3 Plus – the MORPH tank and the SPD A8 TC Mod.

So a company with a decent enough pedigree who’s products have on the whole been received well.

So how does the Bachelor X stack up and if this was vaping Tinder would I swipe left or right?

Let’s take a closer look.

The EHPRO Bachelor X RTA was sent to me for the purpose of this review and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Inside the Box

A basic cardboard box that does its job lol.

Inside you’ll find:

  • X1 EHPRO Bachelor X RTA
  • X1 Bubble Glass Tank Section
  • X1 Allen Key
  • X3 Pre-made Coils and Cotton
  • Spare Part Pack
  • User Manual

bachelor x contents

EHPRO Bachelor X RTA Specs

  • 25mm Diameter
  • Threaded Top Fill System
  • 3.5ml Standard Tank Section
  • 5ml Bubble Glass Tank section
  • Two Post, Dual Terminal Build Deck
  • Single Coil Builds
  • Single Internal Air Tube on Build Deck
  • Dual Wicking Ports
  • Bottom Airflow Design
  • 14mm by 2mm
  • 810 ULTEM Drip Tip

Key Features

This is a single coil RTA with a 2 post gold plated dual terminal deck.

The coil legs are held down by hex screws – something I’ll certainly get into later…

bachelor x rta

Out of the box it’s 3.5ml capacity with a bubble glass tank that bumps it up to 5mls.

It features a huge air flow port on the centre of the deck and adjustable twin bottom airflow control.

It’s a simple enough top-fill with two generous kidney shaped fill ports and an 810 ULTEM drip tip – others I’ve tried do fit.

Design and Build Quality

Design wise it looks very similar to the Vandy Vape Kylin V2 especially in bubble glass mode with knurling on the top cap and the air flow control ports at the base.

Bachelor X and Kylin

The central chimney has a mortar board etched into it – the type scholars wear when receiving their degrees and there’s Bachelor X engraved or stamped into the base on one side and EHPRO on the other.

bachelor x bubble glass
with bubble glass

It’s actually quite an unfussy clean looking RTA – however as looks go it’s let down by that hideous drip tip which of course can be swapped out.

It’s not a badly built tank either but certainly not one of the best I’ve tried.

Whilst all the moving parts come apart easily enough the materials feel dare I say a little on the budget side.

bachelor x components

I have the stainless steel version and it looks and feels thin in places and almost coated in a kind of chrome effect to add a bit of lustre.

A quick word about the O rings too.

They are thin – flimsy and have a habit of bunching up and as I’ll tackle during how this one performs – they aren’t the best seals either.

I’m sure from my tone you’re starting to get an inkling this one hasn’t impressed me and I’ll explain why.

How Does the EHPRO Bachelor X RTA Perform?

I enjoy a single coil RTA and RDA – indeed they are my ‘go tos’ in house and out and about.

I like the fact they are easy on the battery and juice and dead easy to build on – in other words you don’t need a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering to get up and running.

At first glance the EHPRO Bachelor X looks like yet another dual post single coil RTA that you can quickly pop a coil in wick – juice and enjoy.

Nope.

Building on the EHPRO Bachelor X RTA

Probably the worst building experience I’ve had yet – especially using the supplied coils.

The way the post holes are designed means you can pop one leg in easy enough but to get the other in you have to completely remove the grub screw.

You need the skills of a bomb builder who trained as a Swiss watch maker to get that grub screw back in – something I haven’t got judging from my cursing and scrambling under my desk to find wandering screws lol.

bachelor x coiled

Little wonder EHPRO has supplied 4 extra ones – it’s almost as if they anticipate a lot of scrambling around on your hands and knees tracking down runaway screws…

I used the supplied coils – yes coils plural – as they’re so shoddy when I got one in it snapped whilst easing it over the airflow.

broken coil

I had to do some seriously gentle jiggling about with the second one of theirs I tried to straighten the kink in it!

Why EHPRO couldn’t have opened up two of the legs on the side like many other new RTAs out there – including the GeekVape Ammit – I don’t know.

Building on this was no pleasure for me – I’m sure plenty of you will say it’s a doddle but this is not one for those of you with dexterity issues – I’m lucky in that aspect but still found it a complete pain.

bachelor x coiled and wicked

On a brighter note wicking was pretty straightforward with the very generous wicking ports that are reminiscent of a genesis style RTA.

I have tried pre-cutting one of the legs and managed – in a fashion – to get it screwed down however the shoddy coil [could be just mine lol] snapped as I tried to iron out the kinks.

Maybe you’ll do better?

The O ring on the deck is also a bone of contention with me.

It is very thin and flimsy and does kink up at every opportunity.

I have noticed the seal between the bubble glass in particular is not so good and whilst it hasn’t flooded out – there is enough seepage to notice.

I have actually re-built this half a dozen times now and whilst I’m getting better – is it worth all the hassle?

Flavour and Clouds

OK first fill and using one of the supplied coils coming out at 0.27ohms and wicked with Fuzz – I wasn’t impressed at all.

75w airflow wide open and the flavour was washed away.

The flavour was muted even with the airflow half way closed – this is an airy tank.

wicks well

After fiddling about with the airflow and wattage I found – and I don’t want to say sweet spot – a passable vape at 77w with the airflow just over half closed.

Clouds were OK – nothing to write home about.

I popped in a new coil – eventually – a basic Clapton at 0.25ohms – wicked again with Fuzz and began again at 75w with the airflow open.

The flavour was slightly better as were the clouds – but again not in the same league as other single coil RTAs I’ve used such as the Geekvape Zeus – and Augvape Merlin Mini.

Up at the lofty heights of 81w the vape was again slightly better but again the flavour whilst there was struggling to fully come through – it was there in the background but definitely not popping.

So no for me the hassle wasn’t worth it for the resulting vape.

Pros

  • 3.5ml out of the box plus 5ml bubble tank
  • Not a bad design looks wise
  • OK flavour
  • Reasonable clouds
  • Easy to wick
  • X3 coils – let’s hope yours are better quality!

Cons

  • Needing to remove a grub screw to get the coil legs in
  • Poor O rings
  • Included coils a little ‘weak’
  • Included cotton not so good
  • Price – it is overpriced at the moment

Final Review Verdict

Given I’m a massive single coil RTA user I was hoping for big things from this decent looking single coil tank.

For me the farting about [let’s call it the Bachelor of fARTS] with having to remove a grub screw to get a coil leg in is a ridiculous design ‘feature’ in 2018.

But hey if you have a Bachelor’s Degree in deck building this will be a doddle for you…maybe 😉

The flavour is OK nothing amazing – and the clouds whilst decent are nothing to write home about – even at higher wattage.

I’ve just had a look at pre-order prices and this one is coming in at between $30 and $35 dollars which is way way too expensive for what you’re getting IMHO – so another downer lol.

Not for me when there’s far far better alternatives out there – but then I didn’t get a degree – only O Levels 😉

Note: after writing this I found a review from over the pond by a reviewer with a huge following.

He absolute loves it – lol – and called people who might not like the need to remove a post screw to get a coil in ‘nit picky’.

As we British say…

Bollox – these days we shouldn’t have to mess about removing fiddly grub screws to build on a deck especially when leaving x2 open sided would have made this accessible to all not just those with the dexterity of a brain surgeon.

But hey that’s the beauty of vape reviews – mostly – or as the Devil Vaper says with a twinkle…apparently these days in some quarters when it comes to new vape stuff…“everything is awesome…”;)
