More Details On The Dotmod DotBox 100W Kit…

The kit consists of the new DotBox 100W mod and the DotTank Max sub ohm tank.

dotbox 100W features

As you can expect, the mod will be another classy affair with a Leather and Zinc Alloy construction.

There is an 0.96in colour screen provided and there are multiple user modes to choose from…

dotbox 100w modes

The mod will output between 5 to 100W (1-9V) and will require a single 21700 or 18650 (with included adaptor) battery. The battery is not included!

dotbox 100w battery

A mechanical locking switch and USB Type C port are also provided.

Another excellent feature is that the mod is IP67 waterproof rated.

dotbox 100w IP67

If you buy the full kit – the DotTank Max sub ohm tank is included.

dottank max components

This is compatible with the existing DotCoil coil range, with 0.12ohm, 0.3ohm, 0.7ohm and 0.9ohm coils available. The DotCoils are also compatible with the DotAIO V2, DotTank 25mm, DotStick Revo / Revo V1.5 and DotAIO Tank V3.

The kit does include 2 coils but the resistance is not specified.

dottank max coil compatibility

A clever feature is the internal seal which means you can remove and replace the coil without emptying the tank as the contents will stay locked inside.

This has a swing open top fill and will hold up to 5ml of your own e-liquid. I am not sure if a 2ml TPD friendly version will be on the horizon?

The airflow inlet is at the top of the tank to help minimise the risk of leaking and the airflow is adjustable.

There are 6 colours to choose from: Royal Blue, Brown, Red, Grey, Black and Orange.

More Details On The Dotmod DotAIO X…

This is an AIO which stands for “All In One”. Meaning the tank, battery and chipset all live in the same fixed housing… Usually…

dotaio x components

However this is a very clever kit as there are multiple “add on” modules.

For instance there are 3 main modules: battery module, chipset module and atomiser module.

dotaio x chipset module

These connect together via magnets and mechanical locks.

dotaio x battery module

The optional modules available at the moment include a DotAIO tank compatible module, Boro Tank compatible module and Squonk / 510 module (for use with an RDA). There is a mention of further modules being available in the future.

Plus even better the Boro module is also compatible with Boro style tanks and bridges!

Which modules you get as standard depends on which kit you purchase.

dotaio x sm pic

Included in all kits is the DotAIO V3 tank which has been upgraded with a larger capacity and improved airflow.

Sadly the Dotmod website is less informative about any other features!dotaio x rear

According to a vendor website it appears the output is specified as 5-75W and it has Temperature Control. As to any other user modes – I have no idea.

You will need a single 18650 battery which as always is not included and a USB Type C port is provided.

There appears to be a screen but again no details.

Here is an introduction video from the dotmod YouTube channel.

There appears to be only one version available – but there is a mention of being able to replace the panels.

More Details On The DotMod DotRDA X…

This is designed as an RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomiser), where you drip e-liquid manually into the top of the atomiser.

dotrda x components

However if you would like the convenience of squonking, the kit also includes a hollow 510 (Bottom Feed – BF) connector pin for use with a squonk mod. Although not specified on the DotMod website, one of the retailers say this has a 4ml e-liquid well – so should not need filling / dripping too often!

One of the main features of this RDA is the versatility.

dotrda x deck

You can use this with a single coil or dual coil build and the deck is postless for easier installation.

dotrda x coils

Also this promises to cater to those who prefer restricted airflow (MTL / RDL) or a more open airflow (DTL) with some interchangeable components which are included in the kit. We tell you what MTL, RDL and DTL mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

If you prefer a more restricted airflow you can choose the slimmer drip tip (mouthpiece) along with the 510 top cap.

dotrda x drip tips
Drip Tip Options. Left = 510, Right = 810

If you would like bigger clouds you can select the wider drip tip (810) and matching top cap.

Sadly the DotMod website is not the most informative so I am not sure if the airflow is adjustable other than changing the top caps and drip tips? There is a mention of an “airflow insert” in the contents – which would possibly suggest there is a replaceable insert on the deck to further configure the incoming air?

There are 2 colours to choose from: Black and Gunmetal.

  • DotMod DotRDA X
  • Single Coil Chamber
  • Dual Coil Chamber
  • 510 Top Cap

  • 510 Drip Tip
  • 810 Drip Tip
  • Screwdriver
  • Airflow Insert
  • Coil Lead Trim Tool
  • Squonk Pin
  • 4x Grub Screws
  • 8x O-Rings

DotMod DotRDA X Specs

  • Size: 23mm diameter
  • 4ml e-liquid well
  • Single or dual coil postless deck
  • Replaceable chambers for dual or single coils included in kit
  • 510 or 810 drip tips and top caps included in kit
  • Bottom feed (Squonk) pin included
  • 510 bottom connection

It is a shame there are not many images on the DotMod website as I would like to see the features in more detail.

But from what we can see – what do you think of the DotMod DotRDA X? Let me know in the comments below!

Today I’m taking a look at an ‘old friend’ with a new device – the DotMod DotPod Nano.

Dotmod Dotpod Nano hand check imageMy affinity with DotMod can be traced back to around 2015 when I mustered up the finances to afford their DotBox 200W box Mod. We shared the same characteristics, you see.

Style and elegance. Ha!

DotMod were known back then for higher end products, as reflected by their Zirconia Diamond encrusted DotBling. With such an extravagant price tag, I’d still be saving up for one!

While pod kits were hitting the market, Dot Mod were re-establishing themselves with AIO devices such as the DotMod Dot AIO kit. Heck, they even included an adaptor to allow the use of Aspire’s popular Nautilus coils.

Then disposables punched their way in and it was a case of keeping up with the Elf Bars of the vape scene. They did this with the release of the fully recyclable DotMod Dot E.

Until now it seems DotMod have avoided temptation to follow the well-trodden path of starter pod kits.

So how does the Dot Nano pod kit stack up?

UK Shipping – Free Shipping Over £20!

What Can We Expect From the DotMod DotPod Nano?

A far cry from the likes of the powerful 200W Box Mod of old!

An integrated battery, no fire button and no complicated menu screens..

The DotPod Nano will supply a maximum of 18W of power and it’s not known if this is constant throughout battery discharge.

The 800mAh integrated battery is said to last for anything up to a full days use. I’ll be checking those claims soon.

DotPod nano battery infoThe two pods that come provided are both sealed so no fiddling around with replacement coils. They’re both mesh. One has a resistance of 0.8ohm (16W max output) and the other 1.0ohm (14W max output)

Since there’s a single fixed airflow slot I’m hoping for both a restrictive draw (RDL) and mouth to lung (MTL) vape respectively. We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

DotPod Nano pod details

Incidentally, they’re both 2ml which makes them TPD compliant for use in the UK and EU.

It’s interesting because the instruction manual alludes to two more pods. A 0.6ohm and 1.25ohm. They don’t currently feature on the DotMod web site so I’m assuming they’re in the pipeline.

An LED on the base of the battery illuminates during auto draw and changes colour to indicate current battery status. It also informs of any issues the battery or pod is facing.

Fast type C USB charging is included and pass through vaping is possible for those not keen on waiting it out.

The Dotmod DotPod Nano comes in six colour schemes. Black, Brown, Orange, Grey, Royal Blue and Red (under review).

What’s In the Box?

We get a thumbnail cut out so sliding the box open is a doddle.

DotPod Nano specifications

DotMod DotPod Nano Design and Build Quality

Battery Section

At 78g it’s a little heavier than I was expecting but it feels durable and solid enough in the hand. The Zinc Alloy band running around the perimeter feels a bit rough against the skin. So that does take away some of the ergonomics of the device.

With its grainy texture, the Leather effect material feels comfortable enough and provides plenty of grip.

The DotMod logo has been etched into the corner on one side but what puzzles me the most is the bulging around the top where pod meets battery.

DotMod logo embossed into the leather of Dotpod nano It gives the feeling the battery section was designed around the shape of the pod. That’s perfectly fine but my OCD really kicks in! I keep thinking the material is going to pull away from the main body.

Bulging on the dotpod nano battery section
Design issue or just my OCD?

On the side of the battery section we have a single fixed airflow slot. It’s slightly larger than the average MTL (mouth to lung) pinhole so does suggest the possibility of a restrictive lung vape too.

The Type C USB charging port has been mounted on the bottom. That’s a shame because there’s enough depth to allow for a free standing vertical charge.

Type C USB charging port and LED indicator on dotpod nanoThe LED has also been positioned here which means having to turn the device each time to check battery status.

It’s assumed you’re going to be using the included lanyard. Two large, attachment slots are located on the top of the battery section. Again, this takes away from the aesthetics if you don’t plan to use it.

Lanyard fixing point on the dotpod nano pod kit

The Pod Section

Although made from a clear, tough PCTG material they recess quite deeply inside the battery section.

DotMod pod of the dotpod nanoThis means you’re not going to be viewing much E-juice without constant removal. However, and as expected the DotPod Nano easily passes the drop test.

A firmly seated pod isn’t going to separate without a fight!

DotMod have included a minimum fill level line which is handy. Use this for when knowing when to refill the pod.

The shape of the mouthpiece doesn’t exactly conform to the shape of the lips but is still relatively comfortable in use.

restrictive mouthpiece of the dotpod nano podThe Pod is filled from the side but I had a pig of a time trying to prise the tab open. Unless you have finger nails get ready to reach for a substitute aid – I had to.

The opening is sizeable enough for larger bottle nozzles but take care! There isn’t an air release valve on the pod. Things could get messy. Smaller 10ml nozzles will be perfectly fine.

So I think it’s time we actually took a look at how to get the DotPod Nano up and running.

Quick Start Guide

How To Operate the DotPod Nano

There’s no fire button, no on or off switch so the DotPod Nano relies entirely on auto draw for functionality. Things couldn’t be easier for the new vaper. Effectively we have a device that’s always on standby. It’s even possible to vape while charging.

The single LED is responsible for battery charge status.

  • Green – 61% – 100%
  • Blue – 21% – 60%
  • Red – 1% – 20%

It will also alert to potential battery issues encountered.

  • Flashes white x 1 – Inserting/removing pod
  • Flashes white x 2 – Short circuit protection
  • Flashes white x 3 – Open circuit protection
  • Flashes red x 5 – Over temperature protection
  • Flashes red x 8 – Low voltage detection

How To Fill The Pod

  • Remove the pod from the battery section
  • Locate the red fill tab on the side of the pod and carefully lift open
  • Insert the E-liquid bottle nozzle into the fill port of the pod
  • Gently squeeze E-liquid into the chamber taking care not to overfill
  • filling the pod of the dotpod nanoPush the fill tab back into position ensuring a good seal
  • Push the pod back into the battery section

Just a couple of things to note. The 1.0ohm pod is already attached to the battery upon purchase. Please remember to remove the contact seal located on the bottom of the pod before or after the first time of filling.

Never feel inclined to test the pod without first filling and priming. This will result in a burning of the cotton and will ruin the pod.

Also, when filling for the first time remember to let the E-liquid soak into the cotton wicks for around five minutes prior to vaping.

How Does the DotMod DotPod Nano Perform?

I started with the installed 1.0ohm mesh pod using Riot Bar EDTN Mango Vanilla Ice Cream, a 50VG/50PG blend with a 20mg salt nicotine strength.

1.0hm Mesh Pod – 14W Max Output

1.0ohm sealed dotmod podGiven that the coil is pumping out a steady 14W I think the performance is extremely good.

The vape is quiet, smooth and turbulence free throughout inhale and the flavour simply floods out.

As mouth to lung vape, the pod is bang on. This is where I noticed the most sweetness from the vape. The fruits are bright and lively, surrounded by that sweetness and even the creaminess of the Ice Cream pulls through nicely.

Vapour production is very stealth like. Thin and wispy, pretty much emulating the smoke from a cigarette.

It is a little bit on the tight side for a restrictive direct lung vape but still possible. I find it pulls on the neck muscles just a bit too often for comfort, though.

You’ll still get a decent flavour but much of that sweetness gets diluted if using this style.

0.8ohm Mesh pod – 16W Max Output

I used Riot Bar EDTN Peach Ice tea to test the pod for flavour and cloud production.

It’s another 50VG/50PG juice ratio with 20mg salt nicotine.

0.8ohm dotmod sealed podThe crucial thing to note is the airflow. It has the most minute of differences over the 1.0ohm coil. And those differences are really more noticeable if attempting a mouth to lung draw.

It’s maybe 10% less restricted which means still quite easy to pull off. In fact it’s a comfortable arrangement and I had no issues vaping this way.

Again it’s very tight as a restrictive lung hit but it’s going to come down to just how restricted you like your draw. I’m relatively happy with the performance in terms of airflow and the flavour is off the charts.

The Peach comes through juicy with plenty of sweetness and is extremely consistent throughout. Menthol hits the back of the throat early doors and also a clear indicator of how receptive the mesh coil is to auto draw.

As with the 1.0ohm coil, the inhale is very smooth and turbulence free. It’s as quiet as the proverbial mouse too. Ideal for the odd stealth vape or six.

In terms of power there’s obviously not much to separate 16W from 14W so in this respect performance is negligible.

Both coils get the job done and they do it well.

Battery performance and Recharging

The battery held out for eight and a half hours while flavour and vapour production popped throughout. I refilled the pod a couple of times and alternated between MTL and RL vaping.

The Green LED held true for around three and a half hours, the Blue for four and a half. Minimal vaping time is left when it turns Red.

It took exactly one hour to recharge the battery, the LED slowly pulsing as it passed through Red, Blue and finally completing with a solid Green indicator.

Pros

  • The sealed pods don’t leak a drop
  • Great flavour and vapour production with either pod
  • A smooth, turbulence free auto draw
  • Rock solid connection between pod and battery section
  • Portable and pocket friendly

Cons

  • Heavier than expected (subjective)
  • Zinc Alloy edges feel rough in the hand
  • Bulging at the top where pod meets battery section (subjective)
  • Bottom mounted LED indicator
  • Not the most comfortable mouthpiece
  • Silicone fill tab is awkward to use (subjective)
  • Unable to view remaining juice levels

Final Review Verdict

As you can tell I had a few negatives. However, you’ll notice they’re based around the design of the device. I can’t knock the build quality at all. It feels solid as a rock – highly durable and looks capable of rolling with the blows.

When it comes to usage the DotPod Nano also performs admirably. Auto draw is very sensitive, responding to the very lightest of inhales and both mesh coils were actually more powerful than I anticipated.

Although there’s not much to separate them in terms of airflow, flavour and vapour production was excellent. I got a great vaping experience even when the LED was reading Red.

There is a voltage drop from 4.2V to 3.4V as the battery depletes but I can’t say I noticed it much. The device behaved very consistently throughout the life span of a single charge.

As a recommendation I would suggest using 50VG/50PG juice ratios with the 1.0ohm pod. You’ll probably get away with 60VG/40PG when using the 0.8ohm alternative.

If you’re used to thicker ratios look out for the 0.6ohm pod. I’m sure it’s on the way.

So to summarise the DotMod DotPod Nano is a worthy consideration for the new or casual vaper. It’s easy enough to use and it ain’t gonna leak. Can’t be bad..

The DotMod DotStick Revo is on first glance a standard tube style pod mod. But it gets a bit more complicated than that!

dotstick revo banner

NOTE: I have seen mentions online that one vape retailer in France is emailing customers recalling these devices – saying there are issues with charging and leaks. I am trying to find confirmation of this but nothing online so far from either DotMod or the retailer.

DotMod usually produce high end vape gear which are also at the “high end” of most people’s budget, we have reviewed their dotAIO and Dot E devices in the past.

What To Expect From The DotMod DotStick Revo?

This may appear to be a run of the mill vape, but it conceals some new technology.

dotstick revo poster

Usually at this point I would mention battery capacity, but the strange thing is that the Revo has no battery!

Instead it uses a “super capacitor” for power which has many advantages over a traditional Lithium-Ion vape battery.

I will admit that this idea does make my brain melt a bit, but put simply a capacitor is constructed of two metallic plates / electrodes and has the ability to store energy.

Unfortunately my understanding does not go any deeper than that – and believe me I have tried to understand it!

dotstick revo advantages

DotMod say this type of power source will take 100 times more charges than a standard Lithium Ion vape battery, it delivers power output at a higher rate and the lifespan is an increase on standard vape batteries.

Another advantage is that the Revo will charge fully in 5 minutes with a 30W charger – which is not included.

dotstick revo charging

Apparently the output is 5-35W with 4 power levels which are coil dependent. Sadly the DotMod website is not particularly informative about this – so I am not sure if the device automatically selects the output or whether the user can adjust this?

The pod will hold up to 3.5ml of e-liquid but the filling system is not shown.

dotstick revo features

This is compatible with the Dotcoil range of coils and according to a vendor site you get the 0.7ohm and 0.9ohm coils included in the kit.

I wish I could tell you more – but there we go!

dotstick revo extras

Here is an introduction video from the Dotmod YouTube channel.

There are 6 colours to choose from: Clear, Smoke, Orange, Red, Purple and Green.

Today I’m reviewing the new DotMod Dot E disposable vape range.

Well it looks like I’ve either been out of the loop or Dot Mod are simply refusing to fall behind with current trends!

Dot E Series disposable e cigarette hand check pic

Based in San Diego out of California, Dot Mod are renowned for manufacturing attractive anodised vaping devices. You might even call them high end products. They were established back in 2013 and it must have been a few years later that I, myself picked up a Dot Box 200W Mod.

It’s been superseded by upgrades, of course but I still own it. It still works and takes pride of place among my vape collection.

Ah for the memories!

Time moves fast within the vaping industry. With attention focussed on other devices I was blissfully unaware of Dot Mod’s inauguration into the world of disposable vapes.

They’ve released the Dot Plus and MRKT Bars, both of which are rechargeable thanks to the 10ml 50mg nicotine salt range of flavours. More recently they’ve released the Dot. (as in dot – I know, confusing!) disposable e-cigarette consisting of a range of 12 flavours.

Those three devices appear to target the US market only. With the current state of play, and without getting into the politics, it looks like they’re shifting attention to more vape friendly regions including the UK.

Step forward the DotMod Dot E disposable vape. Let’s take a look.

What Can We Expect From The DotMod Dot E Disposable E-cigarette?

It’s fully disposable and more importantly, environmentally friendly. Dot Mod have been very responsible with not only their packaging but the material of the e-cigarette itself.

Dot E Series disposable recyclable outer packagingIn a nutshell the device is recyclable and that’s a major plus before reviewing the E-Series range. Even the top and bottom is made of a food grade silicone.

It comes prefilled with a 2ml flavour of choice and is pre charged, ready to go out of the box. It doesn’t require any maintenance and will last for up to 600 puffs before being disposed of, responsibly.

This makes it very user friendly for the new vaper. So will the mouth to lung (MTL) vaping style, that mimics the pull from a cigarette. Because the Dot E-Series relies on an auto draw feature there are no need for buttons.

Just rip it out of the factory sealed bag and start vaping. That’s the beauty of disposable e-cigarettes.

Dot E Series disposable vacuum sealed packaging20mg of salt nicotine is included to satiate the requirements of any new vaper without the harsh throat hit commonly associated with higher strength freebase e-liquid.

I’ve received the full line up of 10 flavours and will review six of them to begin with. Check back in the near future for updates on the remaining ones.

NB: The scoring takes into account the current number of disposables reviewed. Another reason to check back for the final score!

Dot E-Series Disposable – Mango

Dot e series disposable mangoDotMod Says:

Mango is a one note blend that brings you the exotic flavour of juicy, ripe mango.

I Say:

Well that’s taken me by surprise! I was expecting to find an abundance of Coolada with Mango but thankfully, and for once that’s not the case.

I can pick up the juiciness of the fruit from the very first inhale. This is a very fresh and authentic tasting Mango that’s reminiscent of a cool, refreshing summer drink.

How often does the fruit emit an unwelcome smell? I don’t find that at all with this version.

I receive a slight icy tickle but the impression left on the rear of the throat isn’t very intense. In fact, this is the way I think the ingredient should be applied.

DotMod haven’t allowed the Mango to overpower the vape, which is sensible. They’ve still managed to retain its tropical appeal.

The fruit spills out during exhale and there’s very little in the way of sweetness. That’s something else of value.

A very well balanced vape for Coolada, sweetness and fruity flavour. Good work on this one!

Dot E Series Disposable – Velvet Tobacco

Dot e series disposable velvet tobaccoDotMod Says:

Velvet Tobacco complements the light, nutty flavour of blonde tobacco leaves with the indulgent and creamy notes of vanilla.

I Say:

Apparently blonde Tobacco leaves are washed or rinsed to lower their level of natural nicotine. They’re then laced with a touch of honey. We learn something new everyday!

There’s definitely a nutty aroma produced once the disposable is prised out of its sealed bag. What’s it like to vape?

There’s actually a touch of harshness during the inhale, which I wasn’t really expecting. But the flavour is superb! Maybe I have that Honey in my subconscious because I can pick it out.

It intertwines with a very subtle blend of Tobacco leaves and combines with the deftest hint of sweetness. The nutty element gets trapped behind the nose, if that makes sense.

I’m inclined to mention Cigars because the flavour seems to lean that way more. The experience is best when priming or taking a few instant exhales before mouth to lunging.

There’s even that roughness found with Tobacco. It deposits itself on the back of the throat.

Yes, I’m glad it’s not a sweet leaf Tobacco because Velvet Tobacco is quite authentic this way and not sickly. It vapes well with a nice hot cup of coffee too!

Even the aroma produced is authentic. I think the new vaper is going to enjoy it. A lot!

Dot E Series Disposable – White Russian Cream

Dot e series disposable white Russian creamDotMod Says:

White Russian Cream blends the rich, indulgent notes of coffee liqueur and cream in each puff.

I Say:

I haven’t vaped many beverage blends of this ilk. There’s not much in the way of aroma while breaking into the bag either. Does that sound daunting?

I’m instantly confused as to why cooling agent has been applied to White Russian Cream.

It’s the first sensation I get during the inhale which in all honesty, has me shaking my head in disapproval.

It could’ve worked better if left out because it leaves far too much of an impression throughout the vape. However, the creamy content is very good and has a richness and tone that holds up well.

The coffee notes are also very authentic yet quite subtle in blend.

My problem only stems from the fact that the coolada overlaps the milky notes, subtracting from the experiencing of having a fine coffee liqueur. Otherwise this is another fine creation.

Dot E Series Disposable – Orange Soda

Dot e series disposable orange sodaDotMod Says:

Orange Soda is a zingy drink-inspired blend that brings fizzy citrus notes to your vape.

I Say:

The Orange flavour in this one is quite refreshing. The cooling agent actually complements the overall vape experience, pushing it into the realms of a beverage style profile.

The fruit doesn’t really resemble a freshy squeezed variety and in my opinion lacks the citrus notes to demonstrate that.

There’s the slightest of throat scratches on the inhale but the icy content soon smooths off the edges. Is it zingy? Not really, if I’m honest. Although prominent enough, the Orange tastes rather flat and resembles the quality usually found in a vending machine.

For this reason, it’s more of a powdery, artificial take. Because it’s quite flat, I don’t pick out the fizzy notes. Personally, they’re very hard to replicate in a vape and are always more of a subtle experience.

Orange Soda is a very basic vape. It never misses out on flavour, that’s for sure and the Coolada works to good effect. However, if you’re a fan of Orange based profiles you’re not getting anything new.

A newer vaper will appreciate it for its no nonsense approach and the smooth, salt nic hit.

Dot E Series Disposable – Lemon Cola

Dot E series disposable lemon colaDotMod Says:

Lemon Cola pairs a zesty citrus flavour with the fizzy, sugary notes of cola.

I Say:

Cola is the aroma experiences when ripping the vacuum sealed bag open. This was a flavour I was expecting plenty of icy, cooling effect from – and I wasn’t let down.

There’s also plenty of zingy, zesty quality to the vape too. It lives up to the flavour description. I did find it quite hard to locate the Lemon content, which was a shame. The citrus notes are very low key in Lemon Cola.

The sweetness of the vape is limited to the exhale and doesn’t appear to be in high demand. I’m quite happy about that because it means the Cola is less syrup like in texture.

In fact, it’s a very smooth all round vape experience. It feels like the Cola is dominating the Lemon and that’s a shame because the blending is clearly off in this case.

If citrus notes are in there, they’re merely expressed as a tinge on the lips after the exhale.

That Coolada certainly helps to hold the overall appeal to make Lemon Cola a worthy summer vape.

Dot E Series Disposable – Pineapple Ice

Dot e series disposable pineappleDotMod Says:

Pineapple Ice fuses the tangy flavour of pineapples with an icy menthol exhale.

I Say:

Although the icy menthol doesn’t hit as hard as I was expecting it complements the fruit  better than those reviewed thus far.

There’s a very good balance between the two and the Pineapple really pulls through with all its tropical appeal. It’s a well rounded flavour and in my opinion, quite natural tasting.

The tangy qualities are slightly underplayed but the sweetness level is spot on, leaving its mark on the taste buds. That helps to punctuate the vape.

Pineapple Ice is lip smackingly good. It’s bright, lively and clearly defined. This single fruit profile works on every pull and never fails to satisfy.

Admittedly the icy cooling leaves a lasting impression but certainly fits in with the flavour description. I don’t think there’s much more you could ask from a chilled, tropical vape.

Think a cold can of lilt and you’re getting some of the experience!

Dot E Series Disposable – Lush

Dot e-series disposable Lush IceDotMod Says:

Lush recreates the fresh, fruity flavour of watermelons for a bold all day vape.

I Say:

When MTL’ing expect quite a sharp hit on the back of the throat. That’ll be the ice cold cooling agent at work. After the vape it leaves just the slightest of impressions as a reminder of its inclusion.

The Watermelon is cool and refreshing and lurks instead of being the bold flavour stated in the description. There’s just as much bitterness as there is sweetness during the exhale and punctures the flavour of the fruit.

Lush is based more on a subtle approach to flavour output and although the Watermelon is a well trodden version, the reduction of sweetness will no doubt make it that more accessible.

I would suggest longer inhales to get the most out of lush.

Dot E Series Disposable – Peach Mango

Dot e series disposable Peach MangoDotMod Says:

Peach Mango is a tropical fruit fusion that combines the sweet and delicate notes of Peach with juicy Mangoes.

I Say:

This one’s certainly a tropical fruit blend and works well with short rapid inhales. A sharp, citrus back note hits the throat during the inhale which combines with a cooling blast.

It’s great blending too because both Mango and Peach are instantly recognisable and can easily be picked out. Admittedly the Mango is the more dominant of the two but the juiciness of the Peach is also evident.

It’s actually the fresh, ripe Peach content that I prefer on this occasion and it helps to soften the edges of what is usually an over powering Mango.

The Coolada also helps to keep the vape refreshing. I wouldn’t say Peach Mango is representative of a drinks profile but deserves merit for its rather authentic taste.

A tropical delight for the long summer months.

Dot E Series Disposable – Banana

Dot e series disposable BananaDotMod Says:

Banana authentically delivers the rich sweetness of bananas for a fruity, straightforward vape.

I Say:

The cold throat hit in Banana is a little more intense than found in some of the other profiles.

The fruit isn’t all that accessible, either but it’s another flavour that’s quite hard to describe. There’s more of the sense of the taste on the palate than offering full blown flavour.

It hits most at the rear of the nose if that makes sense! It’s bitter and sweet at the same time but the Banana does tend to fade away during the exhale which is a shame.

I’m just left with a few traces of the sweetness together with that persistent iciness in the throat.

As a vape, this foam sweet Banana is very diluted on flavour and misses the general effect created with simple, single profiles.

I have to admit, I expected more.

Dot E Series Disposable – Mint

Dot e series disposable MintDotMod Says:

Mint has a cooling taste with an icy inhale, a frosty finish and subtle fragrant hint.

I Say:

Peppermint is the aroma I pick up when breaking into the sealed bag before vaping. How does it translate?

Actually very well indeed! For a start, the Coolada doesn’t intrude to the point of annoyance and the fresh mint blooms during the exhale. It’s a very smooth inhale too which makes for a comfortable vape.

Think flavour intensity from an after eight mint and you’re getting the overall theme. It’s the menthol like properties of Peppermint that elevate the cold snap of the vape and a sweetness runs through the heart of the exhale.

I really can’t find fault with Mint. It’s both refreshing and one that will act as a worthy palate cleanser.

The newer vaper will love it for the no nonsense, straightforward approach and it may even stop those cravings for a menthol cigarette.

Great work!

Everyday Use and Battery performance

The tiny pinhole airflow on the base of the disposables ensures a very decent mouth to lung vape is achievable. It lights up during auto draw and isn’t too loose. This allows a very comfortable, long draw similar to that of a cigarette.

Put simply, there’s no flexing of the neck muscles with the DotMod Dot E disposable vape range.

Dot E series disposable airflow intake on base of e-cigaretteIf I’m brutally honest I would’ve preferred a circular mouthpiece instead of the elliptical one included. However, the food grade material is very pliable and you’re not going to crack a tooth if a bit on the clumsy side – like me! lol

Dot E series disposable mouth piece openingSo as well as helping with that all important mouth to lung vape, it feels quite comfortable in use.

The cardboard housing of the e-cigarettes obviously keeps the weight down. I had no issue carrying them around in either a trouser or shirt pocket.

There’s also no problem when standing it upright in a vertical position. The food grade material provides adequate grip, even on slippery surfaces such as glass.

Dot E series disposable recyclable materialOf course, DotMod should be commended on their environmental responsibilities. How they’ve manufactured these disposables should or even must be the way forwards.

I got around six hours use before the flavour started to wain. It was holding up well until around the last half hour. As for 600 puffs? That’s anyone’s guess. I was chain vaping during periods so I guess it’s possible.

Final Review Verdict

The flavours are clearly defined and don’t contain an elevated level of sweetener which is good. There are a few occasions where the cooling agent interrupts the blending and that’s a shame. DotMod aren’t the only culprits here – I’ve noticed that a lot with disposable vapes.

It also has to be said the disposables feel slightly underpowered. Sometimes the auto draw was a bit janky and unresponsive.

One thing’s for sure they’re extremely quiet on inhale so there’ll be plenty of opportunity for a stealthy vape or six!

Speaking of stealthy vapes, the vapour production is spot on. When taking a longer inhale there’s very little produced so again, the bus stop won’t be a problem.

Under normal vaping patterns the production is similar to that of cigarette smoke. This kind of familiarity will certainly appeal to the new vaper.

All in all, DotMod have done a damn good job with their E-series range of disposables.

As far as looks go, the new Dotmod dotAIO SE is certainly a winner, but does its performance live up to the classy design?

It seems like the days of hundreds of pods are behind us (I hope!) and we are now moving into AIO’s being the current big thing.

Dotmod dotAIO Three Quarter View

An AIO typically has a lot more versatility than a pod system, with removable coils, often a rebuildable head as an option, and occasionally an external battery.

They also tend to be capable of far higher power output, so great if you want to chuck some clouds!

What Can We Expect From The dotAIO SE by dotmod?

The Dotmod dotAIO SE is actually the second AIO device from the company.

Their first one, the dotAIO was a slightly more colourful option. The internals remain identical, it’s just the materials (and cost!) that has changed.

Dotmod dotAIO Original Colourways

The original dotAIO was made of CNC aluminium, with aluminium panels, the SE is made of zinc alloy, and has plastic panels.

With a cheaper material cost, the cost of the device has gone down dramatically, and I actually prefer the look of the SE. It’s also a little heavier in the hand, not being made from aluminium.

This was sent over for review from NewVaping – thank you – and as always, my thoughts are my own, and I will report back honestly on what I find.

Design and Build Quality

Opening the box you’re immediately struck by the high end packaging, this is a classy looking device.

It comes in just two colour, Black and White (which I received), and even my girlfriend (who has absolutely zero interest in what I spend my time reviewing) said that it looked really smart when she saw it.

Dotmod dotAIO in Black

Dotmod dotAIO SE the Body

It’s a small rectangular device, with the sides having a nice curve to them so it’s very comfortable to hold.

Around the outside it’s a chrome finish, this is an absolute fingerprint magnet, and I had to keep cleaning it to get decent photos!

Dotmod dotAIO SE Fire Button

At the top you have your 510 drip tip, you get two included. The one that’s preinstalled is the same metal as the exterior of the body, and is relatively low profile and wide bore for a 510, more suited to a direct to lung draw.

The other one is a vase shaped delrin piece, white or black to match your door panels. This has a much narrower bore and is set up for mouth to lung.

Dotmod dotAIO Thin drip tip

On one of the long edges you have your USB C charge port, this is set up to allow pass through charging, so you can continue to vape whilst it charges.

I recommend using an external battery charger, but I’m glad that the charging port is USB C.

Dotmod dotAIO SE USB C port

On the base of the device you’ll see there are two little cut outs in the metal. This allows you to pull off the doors easily, and the one on the tank side actually does double duty.
Dotmod dotAIO SE Base of device showing two cut outs
More on that in a bit.

Dotmod dotAIO SE – Doors

The doors are both made of plastic, and they’re held in place by three strong magnets. Because the door fit slightly inside the body, there’s not even a hint of wobble.

I did notice if you press down on the long edge where the battery is, it will pivot on the battery and raise the opposite side slightly.

The doors have a lovely filigree pattern moulded into the surface, with dotmod written in the centre. As well as adding a touch of class, the texture means that they’re very grippy.

Dotmod dotAIO SE Engraved tank side interior

This ornamentation isn’t just on the doors though, removing the panels that covers the tank, there’s a lot of curly leaves and decoration laser etched onto the shiny finish.

As well as a a very Apple-esque “Designed by DOTMOD in California. Made in China”. This is also where the regulatory marks are hidden, so they don’t spoil the look of the exterior.

On the side with the tank in it, your primary airflow is through the gap that you can use to check your e-liquid level.

However you will notice that there’s a cut out channel in the door. This is to allow a secondary airflow into the device, that enters at the bottom.

Dotmod dotAIO SE Secondary Airflow

You actually get a small sticker in the box, that allows you to cover the primary airflow hole/window totally.

This will then restrict the airflow to only coming in the bottom and give a much more restrictive vape.

The Dotmod dotAIO SE Tank

The tank is made from clear PCTG.

Dotmod dotAIO SE Tank removed from device

It has a nice easy to access fill port on one side, and the top edge has a little lip to make it easier to remove from the device.

In European countries with TPD regulations, this is going to be 2ml, the rest of the world get the slightly larger 2.7ml.

It’s a long coil from Dotmod for this device, and it is screwed into the airflow control base. Make sure when you’re changing coils you don’t lose this part!

coil

Because Aspire Nautilus coils are so much shorter, there is a little chimney extender included, to allow you to use these as well.

How To Fill The Dotmod dotAIO SE Tank

How to fill

  • Remove the tank from the device (optional, but recommended in case you spill)
  • Lift open the stopper
  • Fill with your preferred e-liquid
  • Replace the stopper, and reinstall in the device
  • If it’s a new coil, remember to leave it 5-10 minutes before vaping to make sure your coil is saturated

How To Change The Dotmod dotAIO SE Coil

How to change the coil

NB: Must be almost totally empty of e-liquid

  • Remove the tank from the device, pull outwards from the top where there is a lip to give you grip
  • Pull the airflow assembly and coil out of the base
  • Unscrew the old coil from the air flow ring
  • Screw on your new coil
  • Push the combination back into the base, make sure it’s seated firmly
  • Fill up, then replace the tank in the device

Dotmod dotAIO SE Tank

Dotmod dotAIO SE – Controls

You’ve got 2 button control and no screen on this device.

The fire button is always accessible due to a cut out in the door panel, the other smaller mode button is accessed by removing the door.

Door removed from battery/control side

The fire button is nice and clicky, and easy to find by touch. 5 clicks on/5 clicks off is the only other function.

Removing the panel on the button side, and you can see there’s a lot of laser engraved text.

You have your 4 different power levels displayed by illuminating 1-4 of the quarters around the fire button.

  • Very Soft – 1 light
  • Soft – 2 lights
  • Medium – 3 lights
  • Strong – 4 lights

You only see these lights when you press the smaller mode button, as when you’re vaping the whole ring around the fire button will light up to indicate your battery.

  • Green – 100%-61%
  • Blue – 60% – 21%
  • Red – 20% – 1%

You also have various warnings, indicated by a combination of the colour light flashing (white, purple or red) and the number of time it flashes.

  • White 2 flashes – Atomizer Short
  • White 3 flashes – No atomizer
  • White 4 flashes – Resistance out of range
  • Purple 8 flashes – Dry burn protection
  • Red 3 flashes – Power Off
  • Red 5 flashes – PCB too hot
  • Red 8 flashes – Low battery

The little button beneath this text is your main control button, press it once and you’ll illuminate the current power.

Press it repeatedly to cycle through the four power levels.

If you press and hold this button you will switch on/off dry burn protection.

  • Green glow – On
  • 2 Yellow flashes – Off

This is effectively a type of temperature control that is set up for the stainless steel that is used in the Dotmod coils. Cutting the power when the resistance rises indicating a dry coil.

Presumably this would also work with a rebuildable coil, if you use stainless steel wire.

Dotmod dotAIO SE – Wattage

As the wattage only has four options, the wattage is set by the resistance of the coil you use.

Very Soft and Strong at the extremes, with two intermediary positions.

  • 0.3Ω Coil – 20-35W
  • 0.7Ω Coil – 14-20W
  • 1.6Ω Coil – 8-14W (not reviewed)

Dotmod dotAIO SE – Optional Accessories

As well as having a standard 510 drip tip, you’ve got various other ways that you can customize your vape.

The doors are the most obvious thing you can change, and there’s quite a variety of different options out there, both from Dotmod themselves, and from a range of third parties.

There’s also the option of using it as a rebuildable. Dotmod make an dotAIO RBA, which looks to be set up for mouth to lung with smaller airflow holes.

On the third party side of things, Atmizoo make the dotShell, a really interesting looking rebuildable that costs about the same as the whole device!

How Does the Dotmod dotAIO Perform?

I’ve tested this out for about two weeks now, and I’ve put it through it’s paces both as a direct to lung system with the 0.3Ω coil, and as mouth to lung with the 0.7Ω.

Handcheck

For these tests I mostly used Fizzle‘s Shandy e-liquid at 70/30 PG/VG blend and SVC Labs Berry Ice at 50/50.

Dotmod dotAIO SE – 0.3Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

The airflow control allows quite a lot of air through this little kit.

Fully open, it was just the tiniest bit restrictive. On a scale of 1-10, from tightest to fully open, it’s around an 8.5.

It’s certainly of producing a decent amount of vapour, far more than you would get from your average pod system, and on a par with smaller direct to lung stock coilers.

0.3Ω Coil – Flavour

The flavour unfortunately is a little bet of a let down.

With a higher VG e-liquid, I think you probably need to be pumping in a bit more power than the 35W maximum this kit is capable of.

It’s not bad flavour, but it’s just a bit muted.

Dotmod dotAIO SE – 0.7Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

This coil is a little bit more restricted than the 0.3, but not by much.

Fully open it goes up to about a 7.

You can still have a very comfortable DTL draw, but I think this coil really shines when you close down the airflow.

The airflow control isn’t really set up for a mouth to lung vape though, as you have to close the AFC right down.

I found that it was at it’s best when there was just the smallest sliver of a gap on the airflow.

Although you can close it down further by putting a sticker over the primary airflow hole on the door, I found you could manage the same thing by just adjusting your grip to cover it a little more.

I tended to prefer doing it this way, as you could still use window to check your e-liquid level.

0.7Ω Coil – Flavour

With a higher resistance coil, and 50/50 e-liquid, the flavour really pops.

In fact I’m happy saying that this is in the same ball park as some of my rebuildables.

Dotmod dotAIO SE – Dry Burn Protection

I’m always a bit lairy of testing out dry burn protection in case it doesn’t work, so it’s always one of the last things on my list.

I’m really pleased to say that kit cuts power to the coil the moment it detects that it’s running dry.

A flashing purple indicator around the fire button clearly lets you know what’s happening (as that’s the only time they use that colour) and I’ve actually stopped checking the level on my tank, relying instead on the dry burn protection to stop me from burning out the coil.

Even running several tanks totally empty, the 0.7Ω coil is still holding up admirably!

Pros

  • Really good looking (if a little fancy)
  • Dry burn protection works like a charm
  • Plenty of options to accessorize

Cons

  • 0.3Ω coil isn’t terribly flavourful
  • Plastic doors feel a little cheap
  • The chrome is a fingerprint magnet

Final Review Verdict

I’ve really been enjoying my time with this little kit, and the fact that it will take the Nautilus coils just adds to it’s versatility.

Although the 0.3Ω coil wasn’t a stand out, it was perfectly competent, however, the 0.7Ω makes a great mouth to lung coil.

I’m almost certainly going to be picking up a rebuildable for this.

And whilst some people might find that the limitation of only having four power settings is a bit restrictive, I’ve found that they provide enough variety to tailor your vape to how you like it.

I actually like the slightly heavier weight of the SE over the original dotAIO, and the only place where it feels cheap is the doors. However this is cleverly mitigated by the lovely moulded pattern they have going on.

All in all, it’s a classy little kit.

If I was going to a wedding or a posh dinner anytime soon, it would be definitely this that I’d be putting in my pocket!
