Coil Master is pretty much the first name that pops into your head when you think about tools used for rebuilding and the new Coil Master DIY Kit Mini V2 is the company’s latest offering.

coil master diy mini kit v2 hard shell

I didn’t see a need to buy the previous mini kit as I have the larger version – the Coil Master DIY Kit V3 – and whenever I was away I popped all I needed in the Coil Master K Bag [which I bought and highly recommend BTW].

The first mini kit came in one of those strengthened cloth box/bag type things with book like fold out ‘pages’ with all the tools neatly stashed away.

The DIY Kit Mini V2 has done away with that and now comes in a tough ABS hard shell very much like your typical tool box and very smart it looks too especially with the branding on the front.

Coil Master has also done away with the coiling jig kit and we’ll see exactly what they’ve replaced that with in a wee while.

OK this was sent to me for the purpose of review direct from Coil Master – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Coil Master told me this is available now.

BTW they also very kindly popped in a ton of Chinese New Year posters and a handful of those red envelopes that folks pop money inside to give as gifts – sadly mine were all empty however my grandson loved his with a crisp tenner inside 🙂

They also added their cute as a button Elfy RTA that we reviewed here.

OK let’s see what’s changed and more importantly how the tools handle.

Inside the Box

coil master diy mini kit v2

  • x1 Ceramic Tweezers
  • x1 Mini Diagonal Pliers [snips]
  • x1 Multifunctional Screwdriver Body
  • x1 Diagonal Stainless Tweezers
  • x1 Stainless Folding Scissors
  • x4 Screwdriver Winding Rods [2.0/2.5/3.0/3.5mm]
  • Size: 19mm length x 10mm wide x2.5mm deep

Coil Master DIY Kit Mini V2 Tools

As I’ve already mentioned the tough hard plastic box is more your traditional tool box and closes with two strong clasps.

The tools are neatly packed away in cut outs and very smart it looks too.

OK let’s break each of the mini kit tools down.

Mini Ceramic Tweezers

coil master cermaic tweezers mini

Roughly about half the size of the larger kit version but just as solid and actually feel a little easier to hold being stubbier.

Mini Diagonal Stainless Tweezers

coil master diagonal tweezers mini

Once again about half the size of the ones found in the Coil Master DIY Kit V3 and again no issues whatsoever using them.

They feel solid and very comfortable to hold and use.

Mini Diagonal Pliers

coil master mini snips

I guess we call these snips or wire cutters and again they are much smaller but are very comfortable to hold.

They’re sharp too and coped very well with the larger coils so smaller they might be but still as tough.

BTW – the scissors are exactly the same – the pull apart style – so not much to say about those!

Multifunctional Screwdriver and Coiling Winding Rods

coil master mini screwdriver coil jigs

Now regular Coil Master kit users are going to either love or hate this new feature!

Gone are the two screwdrivers and instead you get a screw driver body and four screwdriver/winding rods that snap into the base.

This of course means you will now have to manually line up and wind your coils but for a quick fix it works very well indeed – please ignore my scruffy looking coil that’s there for illustration purposes only!

manual coil winding

BTW if you’re thinking about making your own coils I have done an absolute beginners guide which follows my first few attempts 😉

OK I actually like the screwdriver set up – especially as Coil Master has added a couple of hex/grub screw shafts which many RTAs and RDAs now use.

Coil Master DIY Mini Kit V2 Final Thoughts

The tools are of the same high quality you’d expect from Coil Master and even the shortened down versions feel solid in the hand and comfortable to use.

The snips are just as sharp as the larger versions and are very sharp and coped with larger complex coil legs with no bother.

screwdiver coil jig sizes

I like the screwdriver and coil winding set-up especially as you have x4 different sized winding options and the inclusion of hex and grub screw options.

And I really think the box is the cherry on the cake – it’s tough and looks great.

This is definitely a tool kit to consider when you’re on the move or on your holidays and one I highly recommend.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that DIY vaping, with RDAs, RTAs and the like, wouldn’t be the same without CoilMaster. Their coiling kits and DIY toolkits keep us organised on a daily basis and I Know very few DIYers who don’t own one or more of their kits.

coilmaster skynet main

The masters of all things kit and coil have expanded their horizons of late, delving, with great success, into the realms of mod and tank…take for example the ELFY
RTA, the brand new Cobra Mech Mod or their all new Marvin RTA.

What to Expect From The SkyNet By CoilMaster

The product up for review today, however, is neither mod nor tank…it’s an incredible multi pre-made coil pack, the Coil Master SkyNet, complete with 8 exotic coil types and six copies of each.

This coil pack will keep you building with pleasure for the foreseeable future! While it would take me a good long while to test every coil in the pack and review it for you…what I can do is give you my impressions, cover the coils I’ve built with and add on further reviews as I try them, enjoy!coilmaster skynet box

What’s In The Box

  • Nifty SkyNet Wheel Case, reusable once coils are finished
  • 6 x Fused Claptons / 26AWG*2+39AWG / 3mm / Ni80 / 0.3 +/- 0.05 Ohhm
  • 6 x Tortuosity / 23AWG / 3mm / Ni80 / 0.22 +/- 0.05 Ohm
  • 6 x Clapton Parallel / 26AWG*2+39+26AWG / 3mm / Ni80 / 0.3 +/- 0.05 Ohm
  • 6 x Interlock Clapton / (26+32AWG)+24AWG / 3mm / A1+Ni80 / 0.3 +/- 0.05 Ohm
  • 6 x Fused Clapton (Twist) / 28AWG*2+32AWG / 3mm / A1 / 0.45 +/- 0.05 Ohm
  • 6 x Flat Clapton / 0.3*0.8mm+32AWG / 3mm / A1 / 0.45 +/- 0.05 Ohm

  • 6 x Super Tiger Coil / 22AWG+0.4*0.08mm / 3mm / Ni80 + A1 / 0.6 +/- 0.05 Ohm

Build Quality & Design

First up, I love this little space ship container with 8 compartments, each with a nifty Laborghini door and removable stickers so that I can re-use the container afterwards.

What’s more, the whole setup can easily be hung on a wall hook for convenient storage.

It’s not necessarily the best quality case but it is a convenient shape and a useful case for storing mini screwdrivers, drip tips, o-rings and more. Besides, you’re actually paying for these awesome coils and the case is a welcome extra!coilmaster skkynet case

As for the coils themselves, certainly what you would expect from CoilMaster, high quality mechandise. 48 Pieces in total, 3 pairs of each and some really nice exotic setups.

Materials used are limited to Kanthal (A1) and Nickel (Ni80) with the vast majority being Ni80 so make sure you’re up to scratch with your TC and heat settings so that you can make the most of these coils.

Also, save one, which is a 2.8mm diam., all the coils are 3mm…heavy wicking, flavour coils. There’s also great variety…from the Tortuosity and Claptons, which will fit smaller decks, to the massive Interlocked Claptons and Clapton Parallels which will suit a massive deck or a spacious single coil setup.

How Do The Included Coils Perform?coilmaster skynet coil types

Interlock Claptons

I set these up in a single coil build on the Elfy RTA, also from CoilMaster. Clocking in at 0.28 Ohm on a single Coil (close enough to 00.3Ohm), I’m experiencing great flavor and absolutely phenomenal cloud from these interlocked claptons.

My first build with this coil type and I must say, I’m impressed. On a single coil build like this, optimal wattage I’d put between 70 and 80 W and watch that you don’t use a very intensely sweet juice, as I did on my first fill, since the flavor is THAT good that you might actually experience too much flavour, haha! I can’t wait to try these in a dual build.

I’m getting a good lifespan off these as well, after a week of daily use, still no resistance change of my single build, nice.

Clapton Parallel

I set one of these up in a single build up on the Ghoul RDA from Blitzvapes and let me tell you, these are flavour coils of note.

With a 0.25 Ohm resistance on a single coil, this is another one of the monster coils in the Coil Master SkyNet and with the flavour and intense, creamy vapour I’m getting off this single build at 85W…I feel no need to do a double build with these coils, I feel it would be overkill.

So basically I’ve got 6 beautiful single parallel clapton builds ahead of me under one door on the SkyNet, this kit is definitely value for money.

If I can offer one complaint it’s that the leads on these parallels have a tendency to split, since the coil is made up of a couple of coils, well, in parallel. Depending on your deck and clamp system you may have trouble clamping the whole lead.

For me, I see one tiny wire slipping out the side of the clamp, since I’ve clamped down the thicker, inner wire in the same terminal. The only solution is to twist and interlock the strands in your leads before clamping, if you have the sort of deck where the smaller, single wires can slip out the sides, like a T shaped clamp, for example.

Well, it’s not a complaint really, as it’s easily remedied with a little tweak.

That said, this is an insanely good coil, I’m getting intense complexity of flavour and as much vapour production as I could possibly need at 85W.

Tortuosity

A beautiful little 3mm coil that’s small enough to rock in even the tightest fit RDA or RTA, I hooked this one up on the magnificent Ghost Inhale RTA from Avidvape, getting a 0.25 Ohm reading on a single coil, with no damage even after serious coil wangling!

A quality coil with profound flavour, this comes highly recommended for flavour chasers working on a tank with small dimensions.

I found the sweet spot right at 65W with excellent performance from 50-80W.

Lifespan wise, it’s been 6 days since fitting and flavor is still strong, with the coil looking good!

Final Review Verdict

Here’s an economical way to experience a host of different coil types without the hassle of actually building those coils yourself or bankrupting yourself by ordering them individually.

All you need to do is install these babies and that’s easy enough. I think the Coil Master Skynet is a high quality, handy must have for anyone who loves DIY RTA and RDA vaping…but only up to a point, no fiddly coiling and twisting! Perfect for lazy builders like myself!

Pros

  • 8 Exotic coil types to choose from
  • 3 Pairs of each type
  • A nice range, compatible with anything from small to large decks

Coil Master are best known for their excellent vaping tool kits but have also designed a few decent vape devices too – recently bringing out some very smart looking mech mods.

The Coil Master ELFY RTA has been out for a while now and is a tiny single coil 22mm genesis style RTA that holds 2.5mls of e-liquid.

coil master elfy rta

So does this little cutie bring a touch of magic to your vape and should you vapers be goblin’ it up [ouch].

Let’s take a closer look.

The ELFY RTA was sent to me directly from Coil Master – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Inside the Box

Simple sturdy packaging with everything neatly packed away.

Inside you’ll find:

  • 1x Elfy RTA
  • 1x Extra glass
  • 2x Screwdriver
  • 1x cotton
  • 2x Clapton coil
  • 6x Silicone Rings
  • 1x Hex driver
  • 1x User Manual

elfy rta contents

ELFY RTA Specs

  • 22mm in diameter for glass tank
  • 23mm in diameter for deck and top cap
  • 33.5mm in height
  • [not including drip tip and 510 contact]
  • Capacity : 2.5ml
  • Weight : 46.5g

Key Features

The key thing is is the size as the name suggests the ELFY is tiny.

It’s a single coil only 22mm RTA with genesis style wicking – which is probably the easiest way to wick.

elfy rta airflow
large airflow

It’s size means it only has a 2.5ml capacity and is a top fill with a dual bottom airflow.

Coil Master says this is designed for both flavour and cloud chasers and we’ll see how that stands up shortly.

The deck is stainless steel with a parallel post design with decent hex screws – a decent sized peek insulator and a very large air flow intake.

elfy deck

There is some doming to the barrel and Coil Master say the 510 delrin drip tip is funnel shaped – not sure what that means as it looks like any other 510 to me – other 510’s do fit.

The ELFY is made from 304 stainless steel and the 510 pin is gold plated.

Design and Build Quality

It’s certainly aesthetically pleasing with a clean uncluttered look with just the Coil Master logo on the barrel.

The way the barrel is designed means there’s a large gap between it and the top cap which gives a kind of banding through the glass.

Coil Master is also etched onto the top cap doubling up as knurling to open to fill.

elfy rta

To look at it’s very similar in appearance to the Troll RTA from Wotofo – simple design yet elegant.

Build wise everything came apart very easily and is nicely machined.elfy comparison
The air flow control has a very pleasing resistance to it – just enough to lock it in place.

The EFLY RTA is available in stainless steel and the black version I received.

How Does the Coil Master ELFY RTA Perform?

The deck is extremely easy to build on – probably one of the easiest I’ve ever used.

I used one of the supplied coils that ohm’d out at 0.61 ohms.

Having used Coil Master Clapton coils before – I’m very happy with them and indeed my x2 ready boxes have long since been emptied since my review on them.

elfy rta coiled

So getting the coils into the post holes was a cinch – I found the coil centred as close to the air flow port as possible gave me a better vape – but make sure it’s not touching the deck!

Wicking is a doodle too – this is a genesis style RTA which means you drop the tails through the generous wicking ports and leave them hanging.

Coil master elfy rta wicked

I found leaving them slightly above the deck worked best.

Although in another build I did add a little more length to the cotton and to be honest found little difference in wicking with tiny and huge bubbles glugging away happily both ways.

How’s the Flavour and Clouds On the ELFY RTA?

OK I used the last of my go to e-liquid – Lemon Refresh by Chicken Shop – as I’ve seriously come to know all the levels of flavour off this one.

I also used the supplied Coil Master Muji cotton wool – again something I’ve used before – though it wouldn’t be my go too these days.

I began at a gentle 47w with the airflow wide open and was pleasantly surprised by the vape quality – pretty good flavour and not bad clouds at such a low wattage.

elfy rta firing

Bumping it up to 55.5w and the flavour improved as did the clouds.

However on the 0.61ohm coil things got a little too hot above 60w which I kind of expected.

Despite the ease of wicking I did find chain vaping on the ELFY can threaten a dry hit – that could be down to me or maybe and given it’s not designed for huge lungful’s that’s the way it is.

Dainty in size and dainty inhales let’s say 😉

Coil master elfy RTA on 22mm mod

I found using a 0.25ohm coil saw the ELFY coping at around 70w – but any higher than that and it began to heat up considerably – both the vape and the tank.

Look I only did the higher wattages to see what it could handle and found my vaping sweet spot on this little cutie at 53.7w on the supplied clapton coil.

The ELFY may give decent clouds but hands down it’s more for the mid to low wattage users who enjoy a good taste.

Air Flow on the ELFY RTA

For such a tiny device there is a lot of air flow – those ports are very big indeed.

I enjoy an airy vape so the lack of restriction was perfect for me with the AFC ring closed slightly.

It is possible to get a very tight MTL vape on this too – if you close the AFC down to almost shut it is very tight indeed.

The flavour obviously pops more with less airflow though even wide open the taste off this is very good indeed – not the best 22mm RTA I’ve vaped on but certainly not the worst by a long way.

Pros

  • Easy build deck
  • Easy wicking
  • Good flavour
  • Decent Clouds
  • Not bad on juice consumption if you vape steady
  • X2 decent Clapton coils in the box
  • Great price!

Cons

  • 2.5ml capacity – but it is a 22mm tank!
  • Gets a little hot at higher wattage [not designed for it really!]

Final Review Verdict

If you’re looking for a very simple to build and wick RTA you’d do a lot worse than the Coil Master ELFY.

It really is a great introduction for new builders and definitely one for the more experienced flavour chasers out there.

You’re getting good clean flavour and a decent amount of clouds for an excellent price.

So is this one I’d recommend?

As long as you’re not looking for an RTA that can chuck huge clouds handle huge coils and sit flush on a massive mod then it’s one I definitely recommend.

I have been using it on the JacVapour DNA75 – the original – and think it looks like a match made in heaven – so ideal for your smaller 22mm mods.

The Coil Master Matrix Mech Mod is a new release from the vaping brand Coil Master.

Coil Master not only make coils and tools for vapers, they now make mods and tanks and the range look pretty and tough! coil master matrix mech mod contents

The Matrix consists of a nickel plated tube which holds a single 18650 battery which is not included in the kit.

At the base of the tube is a screw in cap which retains the battery and is also the fire switch.

Over the tube you add the sleeve. On the Matrix this is a textured matt black finish. If the sleeve becomes worn you can simply just replace that and the mod will look as good as new again!

matrix tube and sleeve

The mod is 24mm in diameter so you will be able to use tanks up to this diameter with no overhang.

As this is a mechanical mod – there are no safety protections so you really need to make sure you know your stuff! Have a read of our guides to help you.

Kit Includes

  • Coil Master Matrix Mechanical Mod
  • Birch Bark Box

Coil Master are making some excellent mech mods now and this looks in the same league as the recent Jeans mod.

The prices are not super cheap but with this there is so little to go wrong other than simple wear and tear – even then you can just replace the outer sleeve. So the Matrix should give you years of happy vaping.

Plus this is gorgeous!

Will you be adding the Matrix to your collection? Tell me all about it below!

The Jeans mod is almost 25mm in diameter. This means you should be able to get most modern tanks to fit without overhang.

jeans marketing shotThe mod tube is made from Bronze-Brass and an outer sleeve is supplied which is a denim pattern and colour. The outer sleeve promises to be highly resistant to wear and damage.

jeans componentsCoil Master also sell other outer sleeves to fit the inner mod tube including the popular wood style Groot and the Cobra snake skin pattern. So you can always add these sleeves to your collection to change the appearance.

Coil master mech sleevesThe mod requires 1 X 18650 battery which is not supplied. This is a mechanical mod – which means you do not get all the electrical circuitry safeguards you get on regulated mods. Therefore you really need to make sure you are clued up on Battery Safety and Ohms Law.

At the bottom of the mod are 6 vent holes should the worst happen and your battery does fail and also to make sure the battery does stay cool during use.

Coil Master is the first thing that pops into my head whenever I think of coils and DIY vape building.coil master 521 plus ready box review

I mean let’s face it these guys pretty much nail the tools and gizmos they bring out with any serious builders owning at least one of their products.

Coils Cotton and the Coil Master 521 Plus Tab – Ready to Build?

The company’s 521 Plus Tab is a recent recent release that underneath that cool styling packs a raft of features.

The latest addition to the Coil Master family is the Ready Box – a nifty little tin that contain x6 pre-made coils and a wad of pre-cut and pre-sized cottons trips.

So two really useful tools for the DIY vape builders out there – so have they helped me on my journey as a relatively new builder?

Let’s take a closer look.

As always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

First up the Coil Master 521 Plus Tab.

Inside the Box

  • Dimension: 130mm x 130mm x 30mm
  • Weight: 290g
  • Housing material: ABS & Zinc alloy

Key Features

The all new, and it has to be said very cool looking, Coil Master 521 Tab has multi functions.

You can of course use it as an extremely stable build platform with the spring loaded 510 taking pretty much any deck you care to throw at it.

voltage checker

You can test the resistance of your coils – dry burn them and using the battery voltage check adaptor you can test the battery output and voltage.

There’s also a couple of leads with crocodile clips that you can use to test your coil resistance before adding them to your deck.

crocodile clips

The Tab is powered by both a dual and single 18650 and also via the USB port and can go from from fire mode to resistance mode at the flick of the switch.

There’s a magnetized section on the side which is a handy little addition to keep those stray coil legs safe before disposal.

magnet

Despite the size of the 521 Plus tab – the screen is tiny and not the brightest you’ll ever see.

Design and Build Quality

As you might expect from Coil Master the finished product is both stylish and beautifully made.

There are no moving parts as such but the clips and the voltage checker fit into the holes perfectly.

521 tab plus

Design wise it has been likened to a UFO however I think it looks like one of those curling stones.

It’s quite light for its size but being so wide does mean you have a really secure deck to build on and the large rubber grips on the base means this won’t be moving around.

Look this is night and day to the previous versions and indeed in my opinion to other ohm readers out there as this is both multi-functional and extremely stylish.

How Does the Coil Master 521 Plus Tab Perform?

It has to be said this is a solid piece of kit that does more than most of us will ever need it to do!

The extremely basic comparisons I’ve made using the 521 Mini Tab shows it appears to be as accurate if not more so – in a few resistance readings the 521 Plus read slightly differently.

resistance

As you can see from the earlier photos the voltage checker works well as do the crocodile clips used to read resistance on coils before added to your deck.

firemode

The only issue I and indeed many others have noticed is the screen is tiny and certainly not the brightest you’ll ever see which is a real shame given that’s the most important part of the device!

What I Like

I like the size and design very much and it really is a solid base to build on.

The huge ring fire button is excellent and extremely responsive and that little magnetized feature on the side is very good indeed to keep your wayward wire legs stored.

As I’ve already stated it can be operated in single and dual battery mode and depending on your build it actually gives a decent vape – speaking of the batteries the compartment is extremely clean and the magnetized door is snug with good venting.

compared

What I Don’t Like

Apart from the tiny dim screen there’s not a lot to dislike.

There’s a lot of advanced features that some of us may never use but hey at least they’re there if you need them.

Final Review Verdict

It does exactly what it says on the box and a whole lot more.

Design wise I absolutely love it and as a building deck it is fantastic with plenty of room and is solid with absolutely no movement no matter how hard you might be wrenching your coils.

Another winner from Coil Master!

Pros

  • All the bells and whistles you’ll ever need to be a master builder 😉
  • Great design
  • Solid construction
  • Dual or single battery
  • Firm foundation to build

Cons

  • Screen is tiny and dim

The Coil Master Ready Box Reviewed

Next up a handy little tin filled with x6 pre-made coils and a ton of pre-cut cotton strips.

Inside the Box and Specs

  • Coils x6
  • Cottons x12
  • Manual x1
  • Weight: 54g
  • Packing: Tin box

ready box

OK this is handy little piece of kit for vapers on the go.

You get a nice sized tin containing pre-cut cotton strips and a total of 6 coils:

  • Fused Clapton 26*2+39AWG 3mm NI80 0.3ohm
  • Clapton Parallel 26*2+39+26 AWG 3mm NI80 0.3ohm
  • Triple Clapton 26*3+40AWG 3mm A1+NI80 0.25 ohm

ready box contents

Now I’m no coil expert but they look well-made though one of mine did have a long thread from one of the legs – I simply snipped it off with no problems.

I have used all three coils in my trusty old Doge III and they do indeed read the resistance stated.

coils

I haven’t used NI80 coils before and despite the name they are NOT designed for temperature control – so power only – although my understanding is if your mod has a setting suitable for NI80 then by all means use them in temp control – but do double check first!

I’m not a great temp control user so these were only used for the purpose of this review in power mode.

How Do the Coil Master Ready Box Coils Perform?

Despite the low resistance the beauty of NI80 coils is they don’t need as much power to ramp up.

I found that all three coils were pretty much instantaneous and despite instinct telling me otherwise I was able to get a very warm vape at relatively lower power between 50 and 70 watts.

coils glowing

I felt that I got – surprisingly – more vapor and flavor from the Clapton Parallel than the others which given I seem to use a lot of Fused Claptons was indeed a surprise.

Manipulating them on the deck was a little tricky as they aren’t the most robust so none of that wrenching about else as I found with one particular set they will lose their shape easily.

What I Like

I love the presentation – that box is extremely handy once empty for all sorts of vaping bits ‘n bobs.

The stiff foam material the coils are bedded into is good too stopping them from moving around and useful for storing others when you’ve used these.

coil master cotton

The cotton is not the best I’ve ever used but it is OK and cut to pretty much the exact size of the coils which is an added bonus and there’s plenty in there.

I like the price too – x6 decent coils and a lot of cotton for less than ten bucks – bit of a bargain!

What I Don’t Like

Again not much to dislike however the choice of NI80 might put some folks off – however I enjoyed the super-fast ramp up time and the need for less power.

Final Review Verdict

It’s a nifty little kit inside a super useful tin with everything you need to coil and wick.

Well-presented and at a good price I would maybe like to see different wire options available such as Stainless Steel and Kanthal.

This is ideal to pop in your bag or suitcase or leave in your car so you’ve always got a backup when out and about.

So yeah the Coil Master Ready Box gets a nod from me.

Pros

  • X6 coils
  • Pre-cut and sized cotton
  • Useful tin

Cons

  • NI80 wire MAY put some folks off

Having finally got around to vaping on RDAs and RTAs recently and given I own literally no tools of any description I found myself using my trusty old toe-nail clippers to trim the legs off the pre-made coils I’d bought.

Gross or what haha – sadly I had to bin the clippers as it appears kanthal wire is stronger than toenails and they are now as blunt as a butter-knife – who’d a thought!

coilmaster case

So I bought a micro multi tool [which included a nifty little LED torch] which of course broke the moment I got it out of the box.

Not being at all manly when it comes to tools – I like the shininess of them and the idea that I know exactly what to do with them – I considered purchasing all the bits and bobs I’d need to build my coils.

But I literally had no idea what I needed – what sizes – what they were called or where to get them from.

Thankfully Jonny and Coil Master heard of my plight and a brand spanking new all singing all dancing Coil Master DIY Kit V3 landed on my doormat – complete with the huge Coil Master build mat and a new set of ceramic sticks.

coil master cotton wool

So – on seeing all those shiny new ‘manly things’ was I overwhelmed? Did I know the difference between a pair of ceramic tweezers and elbow tweezers?

As a complete novice – OK clumsy idiot who can’t even change a plug without hitting Google for a ‘dummies guide’ – did the kit make my coil building easier?

Let’s have a complete beginners look at the Coil Master DIY Kit V3, a must have for vapers into coil building and I have to say right off the bat it’s pretty amazing.

Note: safety is of course paramount when building your own coils.

As always with this kind of thing – please make sure you know exactly what you’re doing!!!

Inside the Box

Just your typical cardboard box – but don’t re-cycle it to soon as there’s a scratch off area where you could be lucky enough to win one of the superb Coil Master building mats.

The whole kit is packed away beautifully inside a tough carry case:

coilmaster v3 kit contents

  • 1 x Diagonal pliers
  • 1 x Needle-nose pliers
  • 1 x Stainless steel folding scissors
  • 1 x Pen styled Phillips screwdriver
  • 1 x Pen styled Flathead screwdriver
  • 1 x Ceramic Tweezer (T1)
  • 1 x Elbow Tweezer (T3)
  • 1 x 10 ft 24 GA Kanthal A1 Wire
  • 1 x 521 Mini Tab
  • 1 x Coiling Kit V4
  • 1 x Silicon rubber case for jigs
  • 1 x T styled HEX screwdriver (â—‡1.25mm, â—‡1.5mm, â—‡2.0mm)
  • 3 x Japanese Organic Cotton

That’s pretty much everything you’ll need to build your first coils.

However you will need an 18650 battery for the 521 Mini Tab – this is the ohm reader.

Coil Master DIY Kit V3 Features

OK let’s break down each piece of the kit and what it’s for.

Diagonal Pliers

coil master wire snips

They call them diagonal pliers however I call them ‘wire snips’.

After using a pair of old toe-nail clippers these are fantastic for snipping off the ‘legs’ of your coils.

They’re spring loaded with a rubberized handle and are sharp and simple to use – snip! Snip!

Needle Nose Pliers

coilmaster needle point pliers

Again spring loaded with that rubberized handle and these little beauties are perfect for pulling your coils tight from the legs.

Stainless Steel Folding Scissors

coil master scissors

At first you’ll think they’ve popped in a pair of John Lennon specs – but pull these apart and you get a super sharp pair of scissors perfect for trimming cotton wool for your wicks.

Pen Styled Phillips Screwdriver

phillips screwdriver coil master

Pretty self-explanatory really – the swivel top makes things a whole lot easier when screwing in your grub screws.

Pen Styled Flathead Screwdriver

flathead

Again self-explanatory and again with the nifty swivel top.

Ceramic Tweezers

ceramic tweezers coil master

Used for pinching and scratching your coils whilst firing enabling you to get rid of hot-spots and tidying your coils.

Elbow Tweezers

coil master elbow tweezers

A variety of uses but predominantly for working with your wicks – ideal for fluffing the cotton wool and pinching and moving your wick around.

10 ft 24 GA Kanthal A1 Wire

coil master kanthal wire

This is a great wire for the coil making beginner and I found it coiled beautifully with builds coming in sub 0.5ohm.

However be careful when opening it as it’s tightly spooled and will escape like a Jack-in-the-Box if you ain’t careful 😉 Yeah I was that guy lol.

521 Mini Tab

coil master coil hot

This is one of the most important items in the kit.

Not only does it make a great stand for building – more importantly you can check the resistance of your coil – dry fire it – and fine tune it until you’re happy.

It has a resistance range of 0.1 to 9.9ohm and spring loaded 510 threaded pin – I had no issues using a variety of RDAs and RTAs.

Coiling Kit V4

coilmaster coil kit

Forget wrapping your wires around a screwdriver – the V4 coiling kit makes the whole thing a pleasure.

You get the coiling tool and a collection of coil posts and jigs ranging from 1.5mm to 4.0mm – pretty much all you’ll need to make any sized coil.

Silicon Rubber Case with Jigs

jig holder coil master

Another set of jigs containing x6 pieces ranging between 1.5mm and 4.0mm – there’s also a little blue hex key slotted down the side.

T styled HEX screwdriver

coil master t hex key

Self-explanatory really – but I found this a nice little tool to use.

Japanese Organic Cotton

coil_master_organic_cotton

Very nice 100% organic Muji Japanese cotton that makes wicking a cinch.

I also received a set of ceramic sticks [sold separately] useful for moving your coils around without any chance of shorting them out – and some very nice fluffy ‘Pro Cotton wool’ – and of course the awesome build mat.

Final Verdict on the Coil Master DIY Kit V3

I guess anything after using toenail clippers as a coil building tool anything will be better 🙂 – but I can honestly say even as a stone cold newbie to coil making – this kit is amazing.

There really is absolutely everything you’ll need to build your first coil for your RDA or RTA which is not only fun to do – it will save you money in the long run – no more £15 shell outs for a set of stock coils 😉

DIY coil vaping

Look I can’t be any clearer than saying as the least technical bloke on the planet I was able to figure this kit out without reverting to You Tube lol.

OK I told a little porky – I managed to make my first coil and THEN headed to You Tube to see if I’d done it right!

It’s value for money too – if you were to buy all of these tools and the ohm reader you’d be looking at spending much more than the cost of the kit.

For the complete newbie and the advanced vaping enthusiast this is all you’ll ever need to begin making your own – it’s strangely therapeutic as well 😉

Pros

  • Value for money
  • Six jig diameters
  • Well-made tools
  • Well thought out
  • Easy to use
  • Sturdy case
  • Scratch code on box to win a build mat

Cons

  • No user manual – not too much of an issue to be honest!
  • Maybe the elastic tool holdings could be swapped to Velcro maybe?

The Coilmaster 521 Tab promises to be the very best ohms reader available, and an extremely useful tool for building your own coils with.

It boasts an accurate ohms checker, an OLED display, voltage checker as well as the ability to measure voltage drop and it is powered by a single 18650 battery, that you can charge via the USB port.

An excellent feature is that you can actually fire your coils whilst on the deck, which means you can pinch and adjust them without having to remove your atomizer from the 521 tab and place on a mod!Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

Is the Coilmaster 521 the ultimate platform for building your own coils on? Let’s find out!

Specs

  • Large, stable platform for building
  • OLED Screen
  • Checks resistance from 0.01-9.99 ohms
  • Checks voltage from 0.3-9.99 volts
  • Measures voltage drop
  • Powered by one 18650 battery
  • USB charging port
  • Reverse battery polarity protection

Kit Contents

The Coilmaster 521 Tab comes in a pretty hefty box, inside there is:

  • 1x Coilmaster 521 Tab
  • 1x Voltage Meter
  • 1x USB charging lead
  • 1x Set of alligator clips
  • 1x instruction manual
  • 1x authenticity card

Coilmaster 521 Tab build quality

On first impressions, it almost looks like a glorified DJ turntable! But what you have here is a very well made ohms checker that does so much more than just read the resistance of your build, and we will go into more detail about the functions in the section below…Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

It’s manufactured from very durable and heat resistant ABS plastic, with a large fire button and a clear OLED screen that shows resistance or voltage depending on what you are using it for at the current time.

There is a stainless steel 510 with spring loaded brass connector pin at the top, and I’ve never had any sort of issue with anything I’ve screwed into it. Around this is a ring of LED lights and this will light up in red when in resistance reading mode, and blue when in firing mode.

It looks cool and is also a good visual reminder!

At either side of the 521 Tab you will find a USB port for charging, and the button which you choose to select either resistance reading mode or firing mode.

The battery cover at the base of the 521 tab is held in place with magnets and this area was the only downside for me with the overall build quality, as mine felt wobbly and never felt like it was secure, I don’t know whether that was just an issue with my unit however! Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

Other than that, I had no issues with the build quality, it feels very solid.

Using the Coilmaster 521 Tab

First things first you need an 18650 battery in order to power the 521 tab, and you want to ensure you have a battery capable of handling an amp draw of 20A minimum, a good bet is to purchase a Sony VTC4 or a Samsung 25r from a reputable vendor.

This needs to be inserted by removing the magnetic battery cover at the base and inserting it into the battery slot. There is reverse polarity protection so if you insert it the wrong way round, you are protected. Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

Battery life is great too, the 521 tab saw me through a pretty heavy week of rebuilding and the USB charging port on the side makes for quick and easy recharging.

As the 510 connector is spring loaded you shouldn’t have any issues with any atomizer connection, however don’t fire any atomizers with a flat or recessed 510 pin as this could cause a dangerous hard short!

Setting the 521 tab to resistance mode will display the resistance of your current build on screen- if this is jumping around then you know you need to adjust your build. Resistance is read accurately from 0.01-9.99 ohms.

By setting the 521 tab to firing mode you can actually fire your build whilst on the 521 tab, as long as the resistance is above 0.2ohm. I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you are certain no short is present in your build as there is no short circuit protection built in here!Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

It’s not just a gimmick though, it actually comes in very handy for making adjustments to your build and tidying up your coils- I’d recommend a good set of ceramic tweezers in order to do this safely.

You have a separate voltage meter included which plugs into the two holes next to the 510 connection. This means that you can screw in a mechanical mod (with battery), fire it and get an accurate voltage drop reading, however this won’t work with hybrid mechanical mods as the mod will not make connection.Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

The leads with an alligator clip can be clipped on to either side of a coil to get a resistance reading, and they come in very handy for measuring atomizers with a hybrid connection or those rare units that don’t have a 510 connection, as you can clip these leads on and get an accurate resistance reading.Coilmaster 521 Tab Reivew

Performance is brilliant overall, apart from adding a few safety features such as short circuit protection to give newcomers a bit of added protection, I couldn’t ask for any more from the 521 tab.

What I Like

The option to fire your build and make adjustments without removing it from the mod is excellent, using a pair of ceramic tweezers (to avoid short circuits) whilst firing your coils makes for some very tidy builds. If you wish to test the build out, you can actually vape it whilst on the 521 tab!

It’s extremely accurate at reading resistance, one of the most accurate ohms readers available.

Measuring voltage drop is a huge plus point if you are a mech mod user, enabling you to identify any potential issues with voltage drop on your build.

USB charging is included which means you simply need to plug in the external USB charger and charge away, handy if you are building on the move!

What I Dislike

It doesn’t fire builds under 0.2ohm. If you are building super low, or using a Temp Control build, the Coilmaster 521 Tab won’t be able to fire it for you to make adjustments to the build. This is also probably a good thing, as anything 0.2ohm or under will put undue stress on most single 18650 batteries…

Another thing of note is that the battery cover under my unit seemed wobbly, and whenever I slotted it back into place it never felt like it was a secure fit. I don’t know if it was an issue with my unit or whether there is a wider issue

There aren’t any safety features built into the 521 tab that I am aware of to protect against short circuits. I wouldn’t recommend this for people new to rebuilding, as if your coil is shorting against the deck or your atomizer has a recessed 510 pin for example, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble if you fire the 521 tab.

Final Coil Master 521 Tab Review Verdict

It’s an incredible all in one kit that is absolutely perfect for coil rebuilding, and with the ability to fire and adjust your build, measure voltage drop, get accurate resistance readings and even have a test vape on your build, the 521 tab really has it all!

That being said, with the lack of safety features I wouldn’t recommend this to beginners, however for experienced coil builders it is absolutely perfect and a kit that offers the full package at a very reasonable price.

Pro’s

  • Can fire your builds whilst on the deck
  • Very accurate resistance reading
  • Measures voltage drop
  • USB charging
  • Clear OLED screen
  • Easy to use
  • Build quality in the majority is very good
  • LED lights look cool!
  • Good battery lifespan from an 18650 battery

Cons

  • Doesn’t fire under 0.2ohm
  • The battery cover at the base of the unit is wobbly
  • There are no safety features built in that I am aware of to protect against short circuiting, so this may not be ideal for beginner coil builders
  • If your atomizer has a recessed 510 connection, firing it on the 521 tab could cause a dangerous hard short
  • Hybrid mechanical mods will not work with the voltage meter

The Coil Master V2 DIY kit is the new version of the original DIY kit provided by Coil Master. Coilmaster DIY V2 Kit

This time around the DIY kit has had a few adjustments to it, with Coil Master intending for it to provide everything you need to rebuild your own coils and then some.

What Can We Expect From The DIY Kit Bag V2 By Coil Master?

A big new addition to the kit is the new version of the top selling Coil Master Coiling Kit V3, which allows you to wrap the perfect coil every time.

Let’s have a look at the Coil Master V2 DIY Kit bag, see who it appeals to and whether it represents value for money.

What’s In The Kit

1x Coil Master Kit Bag.

A zip up carry case that has individual slots cut out inside for easy storage of each item.

It would have perhaps been handy to have a handle included on the bag to make carrying it around easier, but it’s not too much trouble to carry it around under your arm!coilmaster zip bag

1x Coil Master Coiling Kit V3

Coil mAster Coil jig V3This is the latest version of Coil Master’s top selling coiling tool, and boy does this make wrapping your own coils easy.

You have 5 interchangeable poles included, that have 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm diameters, so you can wrap anything from nano coils to thick, meaty coils for high wattage.

It’s as simple as feeding a length of Kanthal through the slot and around the post, and twisting the top to wrap the coil. You can get perfect, tightly wrapped coils each and every time with this!

1x Ohm and Battery Voltage meter

coilmaster ohm readerFirst things first, you will need two AA batteries, which are sold separately! This will help you check the resistance of your build, and to ensure that it is stable with no shorts present, which is an incredibly important aspect of safe coil building.

Resistance is measured accurately from 0.01- 19.99ohm. You can also measure battery voltage, which comes in handy if you use mechanical mods, with voltage measured from 0.01-11.99v.

1x Diagonal Pliers

Coilmaster pliersThese are spring loaded and come with rubberized handles, diagonal pliers make it a whole lot easier to snip your wires.

1x Needle Nosed Pliers

diy coil kit plierAgain these are spring loaded and have rubberised handles, they have a fine point allowing you to get into small gaps!

1x Stainless Steel Folding Scissors

folding scissorsThese fold up nice and small, and are sharp too which makes cutting through cotton easy.

1x Pen Styled Crosshead Screwdriverpen screwdriver

For adjusting cross head screws.

1x Pen Styled Flat Head Screwdriverflat head pen screwdriver

For adjusting flat head screws.

1x Ceramic Tweezers

coilmaster ceramic pointy tweezersA really handy bit of kit here. These allow you to squeeze and pinch your coils whilst firing them, allowing you to make really fine adjustments to your build and nice, tight, pretty coils.

1x Elbow Tweezerstweezers

These have a very fine point on them so that you can finely adjust each individual coil wrap, or pull your wicking material through the coil without disturbing your coil too much.

1x Pack of Organic Cotton Padscoilmaster organic cotton

Coil Master have generously included a pack of their very own organic cotton pads, I must say these cotton pads wick juice very quickly and have a nice clean taste to them too!

There was initially a slight taste of cotton whilst the juice bedded into the wick but this subsided quickly. It’s ideal for RDA’s as well as it can hold a lot of e juice.

1x Spool of 24AWG Kanthal A1coil master kanthal a1 wire

You have a 10ft spool of 24AWG kanthal A1 wire included, to build your coils with. 24AWG kanthal A1 is 0.5mm kanthal A1, which is one of my preferred wires for my sub ohm RDA builds, due to its low resistance.

It’s thick wire too, which allows you to build easily, just make sure you check your build on your ohms meter before using it!coilmaster diy tools

Who Is The Coil Master DIY Kit For?

I believe that this appeals to anyone who already rebuilds their own coils and anyone who may well be interested in rebuilding their own coils in the future. I can’t think of a single item that Coil Master have missed from this kit!

Is It Value For Money?

The Coil Master V2 DIY Kit provides true value for money, especially when you consider that you would be looking at paying double the cost at least should you purchase each item individually.

The carry case provided is a great touch as well and each item has its own individual slot within the case, which makes storage a whole lot easier for you!

Final Coil Master DIY V2 Review Verdict

For anyone looking for an all in one kit, or anyone wondering what kit they need for rebuilding their own coils, the Coil Master V2 DIY Kit provides everything you need and then some!

Coil Master have spent months painstakingly researching coil building and the kit required to do so, and come up with a package that covers all of the bases.

The items are well manufactured too- this isn’t some hurriedly thrown together DIY package comprised of bargain basement items sold at a massive mark up, it’s top quality items that all have their own uses when it comes to putting your coils together.

The nice little touches such as including a pad of Japanese cotton and a spool of 24AWG Kanthal means that if you have got a re-buildable atomiser to hand, you can get going straight away.

Personally I love building my own coils and much prefer it to pre built coil heads, and this kit just makes everything that little bit easier, and I do believe this kit will help introduce others to the world of building your own.

The included Coiling Kit V3 means anyone can wrap the perfect coil every time within seconds, and being able to make fine adjustments to your coils whilst firing them with the ceramic tweezers makes for some really pretty looking coils too!

The folding scissors mean that you can cut your wick to the perfect length each time, and the elbow tweezers mean that you can pull your wick into your desired place without disturbing your coil placement. You’ll find just from those examples that your re-buildable experience improves drastically!

Value wise it’s absolutely superb, saving you a vast amount of money over buying each individual item separately, and the kit really does cover everything you need. At the price it’s available for, it’s true value for money, and it’s the only kit I need to rebuild from now on!
