The Asvape Hit is a pod mod styled to look like a mech mod, it looks the part but are looks everything?

So the world of mechs seems to have been largely ignored since the explosion (poor choice of words?) in AIO’s, pod systems, and all manner of starter devices.

Asvape obviously decided that a return to the clean and simple looks of a mech was something the pod market was needing.

The Hita is then the result of melding the looks of a mech, with the ease of a pod system.

Sounds like a winner, so we shall see if it delivers!

What Can We Expect From The Asvape Hita?

So, this is definitely not a mech!

Instead it’s a pod system that wants to bring some mech stylings to the party.

If you haven’t heard of Asvape before, then I don’t blame you!

They’re not the most prolific of companies, but they definitely have a track record for some slightly odd pod designs including the Touch and the Agera/Defender.

This was sent over free of charge for the purpose of this review from Health Cabin, thank you! As usual I will report back honestly on what I find.

  • Battery – 1000mAh
  • Capacity – 3ml (2ml TPD)

Design and Build Quality

Well this is a dinky little thing!

It comes in three colours, Carbon Black (which I received), Blue and Dark Green (which oddly Asvape describe as “recommended” on its website).

Asvape Hita Colourways

They also do a brushed metal look called the Hita Brushed.

Asvape Hita Brushed

Asvape Hita Body

The body is made from anodised aluminium and feels very smooth and silky. There’s very little weight to it, but due to the metal nature, it feels very durable.

At the top and bottom of the stick you have a nicely grippy knurled section. The top one of these has your two mirrored airflow slots cut into it.

Asvape Hita Airflow

On the front is your pill shaped fire button with a bright LED, and “Asvape Hita” embossed into it.

Spinning it round to the rear, you have the branding “Hita – Mech Reinvent – All in one Pod System”, in white. I’m not terribly keen on this as I think the white cheapens the look compared to the embossed name on the front.

Also, I’m not convinced that “Mech Reinvent”, makes sense, or is much of a selling point even if it does.

Asvape Hita Branding

Flipping it over to look at the bottom, you can see your USB C charge port, your regulatory marks and again “Hita – Designed by Asvape”.

Asvape Hita Charing Port

On such a small system they managed to put the product and company name on it three times!

Possibly overkill..?

Asvape Hita the Pod

The pod itself is made of plastic that looks like ultem (I couldn’t find out if it definitely was or not) and has a really low profile 510 drip tip of the same material.

In fact you get two drip tips in the packaging, it comes with the wider bore fitted, and the thinner bore is in the spares bag.

Asvape Hita Drip Tips

The pod is held in place by a magnetic ring around the base of the pod, and I warn you now, these are not terribly strong magnets! I discovered this when I went to flick some condensed e-liquid out of the drip tip, and sent the pod flying across my room.

Another oddity is that the magnets on the base of the pod, are actually mounted on another piece of plastic that screws into the base. Which you need to remove to change your coils…more on this in a bit.

Asvape Hita Unscrewed Pod Base

Airflow is set by a combination of having an airflow hole in the metal of the device, and a corresponding hole on the pod. You adjust your airflow by turning the whole pod, to open or close these airflow channels.

It’s nicely transparent, so it’s very easy to check to e-liquid levels.

How To Fill The Asvape Hita Pod

Filling the Hita Pod is really easy, though less easy to do one handed when you’re trying to take a photo!

Asvape Hita How to fill

  • Remove the pod from the device
  • Life the rubber stopper to expose the fill port
  • Fill with your preferred e-liquid
  • Replace the stopper and put the pod back into the device

Remember to leave it to stand for a few minutes if it’s a new coil, to make sure it becomes fully saturated – known as priming your coil.

How To Change The Asvape Hita Coil

This is one of my first major cons, changing the coil is a lot more involved than I think it needed to be!

Asvape Hita Changing Coil

  • Take the pod out of the mod and turn it upside down
  • Unscrew the clear disk with the magnets on the bottom of the pod
  • Pull out your old coil… easier said than done if you don’t have nails, it is quite recessed!
  • Unscrew the coil adapter on the base of the coil
  • Screw the coil adapter onto your new coil
  • Put your new coil into the pod
  • Screw the magnet disk back on
  • Return it to the battery section

In my mind, not only are there a few too many steps there for an otherwise simple device.

But more irritatingly, getting a grip on the coil to remove it is hard! Unless you have fingernails, you might resort to using a tool to get underneath it and pull it up.

Another con in this process is that you cannot remove the coil without the pod being empty.

If you try to do it when there is e-liquid in the pod, it will dump it all out the drip tip.

Asvape Hita Controls

This is going to be one of the shortest control sections I’ve ever written…

There is 1 button. Press it 5 times to power on/off the mod, and press it to fire.

Done.

In all seriousness, all the wattage selection is handled by the Reekbox chip inside, and will set itself based on the resistance of your coil.

The fire button will also light up to let you know the battery level.

  • Green – 50-100%
  • White – “Low” – 49%
  • Red – “Low”

In all honesty the red is pretty superfluous, as the moment it goes red you’ve got maybe a handful of draws left, so not terribly useful!

ASsvape Hita Lanyard

Because what self respecting micro pod system is complete without a lanyard?

In all seriousness, it works fine for what it is. You have a rubber ring that fits onto the knurled section at the top of the device, and is held in place by friction.

pod kit Lanyard

It has two cut outs that you need to make sure go over the airflow holes.

Also yes, it has more branding.

The lanyard itself is made of clear plastic, with an adjustment toggle to shorten it.

It does the job, but because the plastic lanyard gets bunched up in transit, and the ASvape Hita is not heavy enough to pull it straight. You will always have some fairly obvious kinks in the lanyard itself.

Will I ever use the lanyard?

No…

Any Other Accessories?

I didn’t receive it, but you can get an RBA coil for the Hita.

Be aware that as the device sets it’s wattage based on resistance, it might take some experimenting to find something that works for you.

I have also seen a 510 adapter, though I think this might be part of the RBA coil packaging. Allowing you, at least in theory, to mount any other tank you want on top of the Hita.

All I will say, is that it better have much stronger magnets than the standard pod before I’d be happy trying that!

How Does the Asvape Hita Perform?

pod mod Handcheck

0.5Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

I would hesitate to describe this coil as Direct Lung. I was far happier using this coil as Mouth to Lung. You can read more about the different styles of vaping here.

You can just about manage a restricted direct lung inhale, but even then I found that I was usually slip streaming and allowing extra airflow in around the drip tip.

0.5Ω Coil – Flavour

Flavour is pretty good, although it doesn’t really produce enough vapour to separate out some of the more complex combinations of flavours.

Another thing that’s worth noting is that it wasn’t until I had put a couple of pods worth of e-liquid through it, that I felt that it hit it’s peak.

So be aware of the break in period! After that though, I was very happy with. Though I preferred using 50/50 VG/PG e-liquid with higher nicotine content – it handled 70/30 just fine.

I put about 40ml of e-liquid through this coil and it was only just starting to lose flavour, so you’ve got a decent amount of coil life from it.

1.0Ω Coil – Airflow and Cloud Production

This coil is a little bit more restrictive, but you can still manage a restricted direct lung draw with it.

I preferred it really closed down on the airflow for a true mouth to lung vape.

1.0Ω Coil – Flavour

Flavour is not quite as punchy, but on the flip side it didn’t seem to have any break in time to speak of.

It did start to lose it’s flavour towards the end of my second 10ml bottle of e-liquid, so not best life span.

I did only have one coil to test however, so this may be a one off.

On the plus side you can of course get more battery life using this coil.

Asvape Hita Battery

A full charge only took me 46 minutes, which is not bad at all, and outperforms Asvape’s promised 1 hour charge time.

On the downside it doesn’t allow pass through vaping, so you can’t plug it in and vape on it.

Using the 0.5Ω coil I tended to get just under a day of vaping out of this, switching over to the 1.0Ω and I happily got two days.

Does the Asvape Hita Leak?

I’m not sure this was actually leaking, I think it might just have been a small amount of condensate collecting.

And I definitely noticed it more after I had recently refilled, so there’s also the possibility that I was inadvertently squeezing some e-liquid out when I replaced the stopper.

Leaking or Condensation

Even being very careful I still noticed it happening, not a major issue, but something to be aware of.

Pros

  • Decent Flavour
  • Neat little device
  • Nice metal construction construction

Cons

  • Pain to change coils
  • No vaping while charging
  • Weak magnets

Final Review Verdict

So this was a weird little device… but I kinda like it!

Aside from a little too much branding, I really liked the looks of it.

The anodised aluminium feels very good in the hand, and it’s capable of pretty decent flavour.

Despite the fact I’ve been vaping on it for a few weeks now, I’m still not entirely sure what to make of it, and I’m not sure who it’s aimed at.

There are definitely things that I would change if it were ever to get an update, and so I can’t give it a wholehearted recommendation.

But so long as you know what to expect going into it, it’s a cute bit of kit.

After reading this review are you going to get one?

Or, have you already got one?

The first thing you will notice is the massive screen on the front. This is a 2inch colour touchscreen!asvape touch screen views 2

To put into context the Smok X-Priv dual battery mod also has a 2in screen and that is epic – so will be really impressive on this little device.asvape touch black

The device consists of the main body and the refillable replaceable pod.

The pod is where the e-liquid lives and also the coil. To refill remove the pod, turn it upside down and add up to 1.5ml of e-liquid.asvape touch pod refill

I haven’t seen the pods for sale yet but a photo of the box shows they are 1.6ohm resistance but I haven’t a clue what material they are made from.asvape touch pods

The main body holds the internal 500mAh battery and that huge screen.

You can select different taste modes which alter the output power – you can select Soft, Standard or Strong.asvape touch screen views 1

The screen theme can also be changed – there are 4 themes available – apparently you can customise one of these to your preference.

There is no fire button on the device as this is triggered when you inhale by an airflow sensor. Any adjustments are made via the touch screen.

Here is a short introduction video to the Asvape Touch Kit.

There are 6 colours available – Jet Black, Black, Rose Gold, Gold, Silver and Rainbow.asvape touch colours

asvape touch specsWow I am quite surprised by this – that screen is huge! I swear it won’t be long before we are watching YouTube on our vape devices!

I just worry about the 500mAh battery keeping up with vaping and powering up that display. But otherwise this seems to be full of nice little functions.

The Asvape Gabriel ‘Choice’ is the slightly more budget friendly version of the Asvape Gabriel, which costs approximately £100 more.

For all intents and purposes (bar the design) it’s exactly the same mod with the same ‘intelligent’ chip set, the same handheld ergonomics, and the same functions; it’s just not made of natural wood.
ASVAPE GABRIEL CHOICE MOD SIDE VIEWIt’s a great looking vape mod with the colourful tattoo style certainly eye catching with its sinuous vibrant design but for me it has one fundamental safety flaw that make it more of a show piece than an everyday mod.

Let’s get into it!

For the purpose of this review, we’ll be looking at the Asvape Gabriel Choice Gold Edition.

Disclaimer: I received the Asvape Gabriel Choice for the purpose of this review. All opinions are based on my own experience.

What’s in the Box:

The box on its own is quite a statement. In faux leather, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for a watch box. Nice touch Asvape, nice touch.

  • 1 x Asvape Gabriel Mod
  • 1 x Cleaning Cloth
  • 1 x USB Cable
  • User manual

  • Abnormal battery protection (excessive discharge)

Design and Build Quality

The build quality on this device is really impressive. There’s no rattle and the buttons are nice and clicky. I especially like the thumb firing position of the power button but I disliked that it got hot when chain vaping!
ASVAPE GABRIEL CHOICE HAND FEEL FIRE BUTTONThe mod features a gold plated, spring loaded, 510 pin which can handle atomizers up to 26mm. Up and Down buttons are mounted on the bottom of the mod beneath the display.

The mod has a textured finish to it and there were no scuffs or scratches after I’d finished the testing period.

The ramp up time was seamless. This mod vapes like a dream.

The OLED display is clear, bright and colourful and displays wattage, voltage and coil resistance in power mode. It didn’t show amp draw which is something I do like to see on my mods. I also didn’t like the battery life indicator.

This is featured in the top right and mimics a mobile phone’s reception status, but it was so small I found it difficult to read. It looks clearer in high definition zoomed in but it’s not so clear otherwise (or maybe I need to get my eyes retested).
ASVAPE GABRIEL CHOICE OLED DISPLAYThe battery ‘door’ is a twist and unscrew cap underneath the mod. This is my biggest vice with the mod and a vice big enough to make me seriously uncomfortable using it. The battery cap exposes the battery!

For all the warnings and education that the vaping community is trying to install in vapers about battery safety and Asvape bring out a mod with an exposed battery? Just no. Seriously. No. Not only does this pose a risk to metal touching metal but it also means that water can easily seep in.

Ok I’m sure vapers are more sensible than to go swimming with their vape but with this open battery cap a user has no protection against any water at all, spill a drink near your vape, have it in a pocket on a particularly wet and storm day, drop it in a puddle and who knows?

But I ain’t taking this mod out and about with me to find out. I just don’t understand the logic behind it.
ASVAPE GABRIEL CHOICE BATTERY CAPSpeaking of battery, the mod is a single 18650, while I found battery management to be fair overall, it would have been nice if there was a 21700 or 20700 battery option, but it’s got to the point now where everyone is saying that about single 18650 mods.

Charging the battery can be achieved via the micro USB cable, but the positioning of the USB is annoying as it’s underneath the mod. While I don’t recommend charging batteries in a mod, (it’s always better to charge in a proper external charger), if you did need to top up while out and about, you’d need to leave the mod on its side, which isn’t ideal.

Hand Feel and Aesthetics

The Asvape Gabriel is a mod that feels great in the hand. It’s built purely on hand ergonomics. There’s no risk of accidentally adjusting settings and the rubberized finish just feels nice. Hands down this is the most comfortable mod I’ve ever used.
Gabriel Choice mod in hand
And just look at it. For all those tattoo art fans this will certainly appeal. The art work takes on religious overtones. The arch-angel Gabriel, typically associated with wings hangs above the flames of hell.

Asvape say that there’s a thin line between angels and demons. In-between, of course, rests earth. The choice between a life of ‘guns and roses’ (heaven or hell) is ours to make, hence the name, Gabriel Choice. I’m going to speculate that the guns/hell means smoking traditional cigarettes, and the heaven/roses means vaping instead, and that we have choices and it’s about making the choice that resonates with the angels but I could be over-thinking things.

Feature Set

The Asvape Gabriel Choice has, for me, two unique features that separate it from the crowd.

Unfortunately one of them flat out didn’t work and the other one annoyed me.

Let’s deal with the latter first. The ‘intelligent’ chip set is clever because when you attach on a tank, change a coil or just power the mod up, it will automatically adjust the wattage to best suit the coil resistance.

This is indeed clever, however, the recommended wattage setting was always far too high for me, for example, I was vaping at 52watts on a 0.15ohm mesh coil but the mod was auto adjusting to 68watts.

I would power up, adjust the wattage, hit the fire button and the mod would automatically adjust the wattage again, meaning if I wasn’t on the ball I would get quite the unexpected hit.

The thing that made the difference was the firing of the power button. What you need to do is fire the button briefly then adjust your wattage and then it would stick. Bit of a faff if you ask me. Leave me to control my wattage, that is after all, why we have variable wattage.

The other feature is anti-dry burn protection. Again the intelligent chip is meant to detect when your eliquid is low and you’re about to get a dry hit. I tested it, letting my eliquid run completely out, and alas, I got one of the worst dry hits I’ve ever experienced.

I continued to hold down that fire button well after my lungs couldn’t take it and I could smell the coil was absolutely fried but the mod kept on firing. In fact, I kept firing it to the risk of the damn thing exploding and it still kept firing, I never got the dry-burn warning. Makes you wonder whether any of the other protections actually work….

That said I did check the 10 second auto-cut off and that did work which was reassuring.

Menu Functionality

The menu is simple and the instruction manual clear so I won’t go into too much of a ‘how to’ but in brief:

  • To power up click the fire button 5 times fast
  • To lock the device click the fire button 3 times

GABRIEL CHOICE OLED DISPLAY SETTINGS MENUThere should be a P in the top left hand corner but because it was flashing the camera couldn’t quite capture it in time!

Pros:

  • Beautiful design and form factor
  • Easy to use with simple menu navigation
  • Clear bright OLED screen
  • Performs exceptionally well

Cons:

  • Battery cap
  • Fire button gets hot with chain vaping
  • Anti-dry burn didn’t work
  • Battery life indicator too small to read

Final Verdict

The Asvape Gabriel Choice is a gorgeous looking mod that feels extremely comfortable in the hand. It vapes really well and it’s certainly a show stopper. Even the things that niggled me, like the automatic wattage adjust wouldn’t put me off this mod.

It’s retailing for around $60 (shipped) which for me is a reasonable price because it feels and performs like a quality mod, but it’s the battery cap that loses it for me. It just feels too unsafe for my cautious hands to be an everyday mod.
