The Aleader Bhive 100W Squonk kit is a regulated squonk mod combined with a matching Bhive RDA.aleader bhive squonkWell Smok have really started something here – the “Cobra” style drip tips with their honeycomb pattern seem to have spawned the trend in kits lately and the Bhive is bursting with honeycomb!bhive kit in hand

For a start the mod is the 100W Bhive squonk mod – which uses a single 18650 battery. I’m not sure a single battery could manage 100W though?bhive kit aleader

Inside the mod is a 7ml squonk bottle which is a pretty standard size for most squonk mods.

The most striking feature is the resin honeycomb body – wow it does look good I have to say.bhive squonk in blue

The kit includes the Bhive RDA which sadly I haven’t seen much info about so struggling to tell you much about the deck. The only info I have found is that it is apparently easy to build and leak free if you over-squonk. bhive rda colours

There are 6 colours to choose from – Mystery Purple, Jewel Green, Starry Blue, Fantastic Rainbow, Dignity Black, Ardour Redaleader bhive squonk colours

  • Bhive RDA
  • USB cable
  • User manual

  • Dimension: 83x53x25mm
  • Material: Resin and Zinc Alloy
  • Battery: Single 18650 Battery (Not Included)
  • Squonk Bottle Capacity: 7.0ml
  • Output: 5- 100W
  • Temp Range: 200- 600℉/ 100- 315℃
  • Voltage: 3.0- 4.2V, Stable
  • Input Current: 0.5- 30A
  • Resistance Range In TCM: 0.05- 1.0ohm

I was initially dismissive about this honeycomb/cobra trend – however seeing the Smok drip tips and the back of the X-Priv and X-Priv Baby mods with their sparkly glitter infused honeycomb I am a believer now!

I am doubtful about 100W from a single battery but who am I to judge!

What do you think of the new Aleader Bhive 100W Squonk Kit? Let me know in the comments below!

Today we are taking a look at the Aleader Killer squonk mod. A few of you that know me from youtube would know this is not the first squonker I have reviewed from Aleader.

I originally reviewed the X-Drip which is a complete resin mech box squonk mod, wow thats a mouthful!

Aleader Killer Squonk mod review

To summarise if you haven’t seen the video it’s a great, well made affordable device. So I was very keen to review this regulated squonker. Lets see how the Killer performs…

In The Box

  • Killer Squonk mod (Bottle Included)
  • USB cable
  • User manual

Features

  • Dimension: 83*53*25mm
  • Wattage Range: 5-80W
  • Temperature Range: 100-315°C/200-600°F

  • Battery Type: 1 x 18650(not included)
  • Squonk Bottle Capacity: 7ml
  • Frame Color: Black

Design and Build Quality

As I know from previously reviewing the X-Drip, Aleaders build quality is very high.

There is no change here with the Aleader Killer squonk mod, it is surprisingly good for a Chinese made mod.Aleader Killer Squonk mod with RDA

The first quality area which I look for is button rattle, I can confirm this mod is solid in that department with all buttons clicky with no rattle. Another important area is the 510 connection and does it fit 24mm tanks, I’ve been using the Vandy Vape Bonza RDA with this mod and it works a treat with no issues!

The biggest design and quality flaw that trips up most Chinese manufacturers is the battery door panels, the Killer’s panels have no wiggle and no physical imperfections which is very impressive.Aleader Killer battery panel doors

Design

Now let’s talk about the design. The resin colour I received is gold, brown, orange and a little bit of blue. These are very unique resin colours and this is one of the main attractions to buying a resin mod, granted it wouldn’t be my first choice in colours but I don’t hate it.

The last design feature I want to mention because it seems to be on everyone’s mind is that you can indeed vape this mod while charging. I never recommend this and always advise on charging all batteries with an external charger.

The last quality point to talk about is the bottle. There is a debate on what is the best squonk bottle, hard, soft, in between… This one is definitely on the soft side, maybe too soft. Let me know in the comments what bottle type you prefer.

How Does the Aleader Killer Squonk Mod Perform?

The chip is pretty standard with all the modes as you expect, temperature control for all major metals, power mode with a top wattage of 80 plus bypass mode.Aleader Killer Squonk OLED screen

I personally have mainly been using power mode at the max wattage on a 0.24Ω build. Performance has been average with the only small issue being the ramp up time is a little slow.

The temperature control I wouldn’t say is the most reliable I have used, if you are a fan of this mode you should be fine but it won’t perform as well as some mainstream mods.

The lack of curve mode might put off some people but in all honestly it’s not needed. The only things that are missing is wattage adjustment for temperature control and preheat settings for wattage mode.

One thing to consider with all single 18650 squonkers is the power output can be rather weak for most builds. When using a dual 18650 you can adjust the wattage to the build however when you have limited wattage you need to be conscious of how low you are building.Aleader Killer Squonk mod battery compartment

I found the sweet spot to be between 0.5Ω around 50w -60watts, this is the best for flavour.

Battery life can be reasonable when using a 0.5ohm coil at about 60watts, it should last most of the day but not the whole day. I’ve been using it mostly at 80watts and it last a good half of the day.

Pros

  • Very easy to use
  • Very well made
  • Great price for a resin squonk mod

Cons

  • Slow ramp up time
  • No wattage change option on temperature mode
  • No replacement squonk bottle
  • Squonk bottle very soft

Final Review Verdict

Overall you can’t complain about the Aleader Killer squonk mod for the price point.

For £35/$48 you will get you a decent resin regulated squonk mod with fantastic build quality that is easy to use.

It might be lacking in some functionality and not everyone will love the bottle but if we go back a few years a mod like this would be worth hundreds. If you not 100% sure about the Chinese brand Aleader, have your mind at ease. They are fantastic at making mods and this one will do you well.

Aleader is Shenzhen based vaping brand, established in 2011, who specialise in gorgeous resin mods and gear.

There site doesn’t actually say that resin’s their speciality but almost every product they’ve released comes in a range of resin options that look utterly gorgeous.

aleader x drip hand

Their Funky 60W and 160W Box mods enjoyed massive success and now they even have a Funky Squonk kit, which I’d certainly like to get my juicy fingers on. Their Orbit mod range was a very ergonomic range of mods, also with that beautiful resin finish that they do so well.

I’m so excited about this review because it marks my first foray into the trending realm of squonking.

I avoided it for as long as I could, don’t ask me why, I guess I just didn’t get around to it.

How Does The Aleader X-Drip Squonk Mod Vape?

I am actually glad I did though, because I managed to pick up a convenient and altogether awesome mechanical squonker as my first ever squeeze machine, in the form of the Aleader X-Drip Squonk Box and now, my friends, I’m hooked for life.

If you’ve never laid hands on a squonker or to be more specific, a mechanical squonker like this one and have gotten used to the five click life of scrolling, screen locking and, of course, the relentless dripping necessary to keep the flavour coming on your RDA then, let me tell you, I’ve got just the thing for you.

This is entirely unique class of vaping, designed especially for those times when you just wanna vape, nothing more and nothing less. Taking all the drip-work out of RDA enjoyment, the squonker is where it’s at.

As this is a mech mod it isn’t recommended for new vapers. If you must have a mech mod then it’s essential you understand battery safety.

What’s In The Box

  • 1 x X-Drip resin squonk xox
  • 1 x 7ml PET squonk bottle
  • 1 x PEI heat sink ring
  • 1 x User manual
  • 1 x Warranty cardaleader x drip open box

Features

  • Dimensions: 78 x 50 x 25mm
  • Runs on a single 18650 battery
  • Resin body, no two mods look the same
  • Spring loaded 510 pin with BF pin
  • 7 ml PET food grade squonk bottle
  • Brass fire buttonaleader x drip open box

Build Quality & Design

Opening up the small, clear plastic display box to lay hands on the tiny X-drip squonker, I notice first the picture perfect marbled resin that’s become synonymous with Aleader…it’s simply beautiful, light as a feather and silky smooth to the touch.

This finish and near weightlessness, combined with the slightly rounded corners and small dimensions of the X-drip, make a pleasure to hold, it fits right in your palm. Also, subtle cut outs along the vertical edges serve to improve ergonomics.

If you can believe it, this mod only weighs 73g, with no cell, and while I usually prefer the quality feel given by a heavy mod, I actually like this because I know it’s not made of cheap plastic, it’s all this beautiful resin that makes it so light.aleader x drip 510

The simplistic Aleader X-Drip is mechanical and that means no screen, no power on or off, just a big old round brass fire button, with good tension on it, which will prevent misfires.

Below that, on the narrow vertical side closest to the 510 connection, you’ll see a fixed brass knob that looks like a button but it’s just there to keep the firing strip on the inside of the mod in place against the pure resin wall of the mod.aleader x drip buttons

The side opposite these brass circles, which protrude about 1.5 mm from the surface, features an indented Aleader brand in a stunning font down the length, which is hardly visible given the beautiful marbling, and it’s actually very sweetly done, with a nice deep cast.aleader x drip branding

One large vertical surface is just a symphony of swirls and, on my blue/purple mod, it shows beautiful blue, purple and pearl swirls in varying shades.

The other larger side has a perfect thumb print cut out through which a super soft PEI squonk bottle can be pressed and this panel is also removable. No opening tab is necessary since you just grab ahold of the panel at the cutout and Bob’s yr uncle, however there is a tiny tab at the bottom.

The inside of the panel reveals 4 tiny but strong magnets which do a perfect job of keeping that panel in place.

Opening it up I see that the box is, indeed, entirely made of resin. On the inside, the mechanical layout is plain to see, simple and functional, with no space wastage at all, making this squonker as compact as can be.aleader x drip base

Atop the mod, there’s a stainless steel atomiser seating with concentric circular grooves cut in it…this little guy will take anything up to a 25mm atty, which means that most of your favourite RDAs are good to go, provided they are squonk friendly.

Accessories

The only accessories provided are a PEI heat sink and the 7ml PET squeeze bottle inside the mod…nothing else is necessary with a mechanical mod but it would, of course, have been nice to see an extra squeezer.

How Does The Aleader X-Drip Squonk Box Perform?

Okay…so this is an unregulated, direct voltage, mechanical device so the power you’re getting is drawing unimpeded from your 18650, the stronger your battery, the higher your volts.

Your power through will diminish with charge so keep spares handy, That said, what a pleasant experience…

aleader x drip handI’ve found a friend for my X-Drip in the form of the Artha RDA by ADVKEN, which you can see in the pictures, an unassuming little 25mmm that looks hot on the X-Drip and vapes like a flavourful dream…they will be buddies for life I’m guessing.

You cannot know the sheer ease and convenience of the mechanical squonking experience until you’ve tried it. It’s the X-Drip that’s taught me that so I think it’s an absolute winner.

There’s nothing to it guys, just press and vape then put down and don’t worry, your battery won’t drain when you forget to switch off, it’s so convenient.

The squeezer is super soft and the lightest press will bottom feed your RDA in a flash, the button has just the right amount of tension so that you don’t accidentally fire, I’m not even sure that this button needs a lock, which is very much a favoured feature on mechanical devices like this.

I’ve vaped very happily on this X-Drip, with a collection of RDA’s, including Coilart’s DPRO RDA and the APEX from TimesVape. I’m actually using the latter now, with a hefty 1.5 dual stapled clapton build and, with a fully charged cell, its Heaven. No fuss, no click squeezy Heaven.

How To Fill

  • Remove the magnetic side panel to expose the juice bottle
  • Gently remove the juice bottle
  • Unscrew the silver cap and fill
  • Be careful not to squeeze it, it’s soft
  • Replace

How To Replace The batteries

    • Remove the magnetic side panel
    • Install your 18650, positive up
    • Replace the panel

aleader x drip battery chamber

Battery Life

Battery life is outstanding, although your power will diminish with battery charge so it’s still recommended you swap out regularly. On a full charge on a 2500, you’ll get more than a day and a half of vaping.

What I Liked

I love the sheer simplicity, and control-free operation of this mod. I also really enjoy the hand feel and gorgeous marbled resin body. Oh…and the battery life’s not too shabby either!

What I Dislike

There’s really nothing not to like, perhaps a fire lock would have made it a bot more portable though.

Final Review Verdict

The Aleader X Drip mod does exactly what it’s meant to and it’s a pleasure to use, with a quality feel, quality squonk bottle and hassle free operation.

I highly recommend this device for any vaper who want’s an affordable mechanical squonk mod with a beautiful aesthetic and even better hand feel. In fact, as a beginner to the realm of mechanical squonkers I was blown away, who knew vaping could be this simple! Perfect!

And..

Would I buy the Aleader X Drip Squonker if I lost/broke the device? Absolutely, in a heartbeat.

Pros

  • Beautiful resin construction
  • Compact design and smooth ergonomics
  • Quality 7ml squonk bottle
  • Extended battery life
  • Ease of use makes it the perfect beginner’s squonker

Cons

  • No fire lock

Aleader has been around for sometime and are renowned for bringing out colourful looking mods and the Funky 160 is their most powerful and latest release.

aleader funky 160

It’s very much in the Voopoo Drag resin version and the classy Revenant by Vapes Cartel style of things and retails at a very reasonable price.

Aleader Funky 160 by Aleader

It’s powered by x2 18650 batteries and the colourful resin plates are interchangeable.

The Funky 160 is certainly a looker – but how does it vape?

Let’s take a closer look.

This was sent to me for the purpose of review direct from Vape Wild and they included a spare set of plates.

As always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

In the Box

Not a lot in there not even a USB cable:

funky 160 box

  • Funky 160 Box Mod
  • Aleader User Manual
  • NOTE: No USB cable included

Funky 160 Specs

  • 160W Output
  • Requires 2 x 18650 Batteries (Not Included)
  • Dimensions (LxWxH): 54mm x 26mm x 88mm
  • Weight: 6.6 oz
  • Resistance Range in Wattage Mode: 0.1 – 3.0 Ohms
  • Resistance Range in Temperature Control Mode: 0.05-1.0 Ohms
  • Temperature Control Range: 200°F-600°F (100°C-315°C)
  • Battery cut off protection: 3.2V (6.4V combined)

Key Features

OK apart from the interchangeable colourful plates – which I’ll get onto later – there’s quite a bit of ‘stuff’ packed into the Aleader Funky 160 mod.

funky 160 contentsYou’re looking at a dual 18650 battery device operating between 1 to 160watts with a resistance range in wattage: 0.1 – 3.0 Ohms and in temperature control mode: 0.05-1.0 Ohms and includes 2A on-board charging.

As you can see there’s a full temp control suite including NI, TI, SS and a range of 200°F-600°F [100°C-315°C].

funky 160 in hand

You get three power mode options: Soft/Standard/Powerful and the menu is intuitive and shown nicely on the 0.9″ OLED Display Screen [not colour].

The 510 is recessed with a built in ‘catch cup’ that collects any e-liquid leakage and Aleader say the screen is water resistance so any leaks shouldn’t get onto the board.

small 510

Like I said – plenty in there to keep even the most demanding vapers happy.

Design and Build Quality

The Aleader Funky 160 is certainly an eye catcher and is built very well indeed.

The magnetic plates are strong and the only rattle I got was when I hadn’t realized I’d tucked the battery ribbon in properly.

plates

The interchangeable plates are sturdy and there’s currently seven to choose from – they stick to the mod with a satisfying click and don’t move around.

funky 160 plates

The 510 is spring loaded however it is on the small side with a couple of my 24mm attys having a slight overhang and 25mms looking awful.

Now that’s a shame because there looks to be a little bit more room to fit larger tanks on-board and there’s a strange recessed curvy lip at the front where even the smaller attys do overhang.

ammit overhang
Geekvape Ammit overhang

The fire button is very clicky indeed with the tiniest amount of rattle however the up and down buttons are very recessed and without looking you will struggle to find them!

There’s good battery venting on both the bottom and side and the Aleader logo running down one side of the mode is nicely done.

Overall it looks good and feels solid in the hand without being too heavy – it’s a well-made vape mod.

How Does the Aleader Funky 160 Mod perform?

I used this with three different set-ups – the Ammit [slight overhang] the Uwell Crown III [tiny overhang] and the OBS Cheetah 2 Mini RDA which at 22mm had no overhang but given its overall small size looked a bit daft on there.

Like I said it’s an annoying size because some 24mm will fit whilst 22mms look a little lost – unless they are taller than my Cheetah!

cheetah no overhang

OK in soft and standard modes I found extremely slow ramp up time – using fused claptons at 0.15ohms but much better using 0.5ohm stock coils in the Crown III.

However, in powerful mode there’s a big difference in ramp up time and vape quality with a great hit on the rebuildables and the need to turn the wattage down on the Crown III.

The menu is extremely easy to navigate and I do like the response time – hit that fire button and it vapes pretty much instantaneously.

Battery life is good too at an average of 75watts I was getting a full 6 hours vape out of it before I had to switch them out.

ammit funky 160Look there’s nothing ground breaking with this mod it is what it is a good looking solid performer.

What I Like

Obviously the fact you can switch plates is a good feature and the menu system is refreshingly easy to operate with a good sized and clear screen.

It really comes to life in power mode and smacks those exotic coils into life almost instantly – and you will need less wattage if you’re using stock coils trust me!

It’s well built and well designed and looks much better in the flesh than in photos.

What I Don’t Like

The mod loses me with the size of the 510 – there’s barely any room on top for anything above 23mm and even then there’s some overhang particularly with that annoying curved lip at the front.

For me that’s a real let down because the average vaper that would use this type of mod is likely using a 24mm atty and above and even if you have the tiniest amount of OCD coursing through your veins this will annoy you!

A real shame because as I’ve been told more than once ‘if it was a bit bigger it would be much better’ 😉

Final Review Verdict

The Aleader Funky 160 mod a solid performer, is a great looking vape mod that feels good in the hand.

It works fine in temp control – I used an almost dry build on my Doge III RDA [no overhang at all] and there was the bare minimum of brown banding on the wick.

I do like the resin plates and they are well built and there’s a good selection of colours.

It’s a bit strange there’s no USB cable – so I’m guessing there’s no firmware upgrades planned?

I know most of us have zillions of the bloody things but correct me if I’m wrong most manufacturers stress to only use the one supplied!

But that’s a minor niggle compared to what you can fit on top.

For a few more millimetres Aleader could have produced a great mod – if you like smaller attys then I guess this is a great mod however nowadays 23.5mm upwards seems to be the industry standard and I think the company has missed a trick.

That’s a shame because as I’ve said the Funky 160 is a solid performer and I like it a lot.

Pros

  • Interchangeable plates
  • 160watts
  • Temp control
  • Waterproof screen
  • Good design
  • Good weight
  • Well built
  • Great in powerful mode

Cons

  • Only fits smaller attys
